WERQ: Jessica Alba in Chanel

Posted on January 23, 2012

In a lot of ways, this really isn’t all that tough a look to pull off:

Jessica Alba at CHANEL “Numéros Privés” Opening Night Party and Dinner in Las Vegas in Chanel, of course.

Chanel Resort 2012 Collection/Model: Danielle Zinaich (IMG)

But she looks pretty damn flawless. We don’t mind the lack of color at all, or even the mid-calf hem (which we usually hate). She’s stylish and put the hell together, from tip to toe.  You WERQ that chic B&W, girl!

      Mila would approve.

Like the shoe she has on far better than the sandal and spats combo from the runway look.

That leg/footwear on the runway model is hideous.  Who came up with that????  “Hey!  Let’s combine a flip-flop and 1980s legwarmers!  Won’t THAT be a chic look?”

Photographic proof that Largerfeld is not infallible.

All I see is frankendress which makes me think Julianne Moore would approve (although this is a pretty frankendress, much better than the ones Julianne has worn.)

I agree. The model’s shoes are very Naruto.

        • Anonymous

Naruto… I am seriously crying over here laughing.

It does look super Mila, but it also reminds me of when she was on PR and loved that B&W dress of Anthony’s.

She’s Brad Goreski’s client, right?  So all hail Brad Brad Brad!

I’ve been watching his show and each week he comes off as a bigger douche than the last.  So self-important and dismissive of assistants.  Me no likey.

      • Anonymous

She has been looking really good lately.  I don’t watch the show or anything, but based upon her appearances alone, he’s worth every penny.

    • http://twitter.com/Moondragonic Charlotte

It might not be a revolutionary look, but God it’s nice to see a dress that’s so nicely accessorized.

    • Terence Ng

Not hard? Really? Because that model is sure making it look like a hard look to pull off. Damn, Jessica totally blew her out of the water selling that dress.

      • Anonymous

The model looks like she needs a hug and some blush so very badly.

      • Anonymous

Staggering what “standing up straight” can do for a dress. I don’t understand the current fashion for slouchy models at all. I assume it’s because in order to be thin enough to meet the career requirements, many of them don’t get enough calcium.

    • Anonymous

Jessica was a knock out at the Golden Globs and here she proves she is not a one-hit wonder.

      • Anonymous

        Best typo ever.

She’s wearing an anklet.  I’m happy to see that.  I always liked anklets.  (and toe rings!)

      She does look really good.

      • Anonymous

I’ve been trying to figure out if it’s an anklet or some sort of weird shadow.  I’m inclined to think the latter (based on the other shadows on her feet), although I can’t tell what it would be a shadow of.

        • Anonymous

          Maybe a shadow…but I hope it’s an anklet.

Brad Goreski done did good here.  And she should thank whoever’s responsible for the bold lip color.  It adds the perfect amount of color to this look.  She really is WERQing it.

    • http://twitter.com/OracleKath Kathrine Marlow

super cute! Love the red lip!

    • Anonymous

Love every single about this look…except the shoes.  Love the dress, jewelry, clutch, and the very beautiful Ms. Alba.

And if Brad is responsible for this, he is on his way!

Hmm… I do think the hem makes her look stumpy. But hair and makeup: A+! Great color scheme.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Yeah, I would have brought it up an inch — she would have kept the feel of the dress but minimized its shortening properties.

    • http://pleasewelcomeyourjudges.com/ Brian @ PWYJudges

Thank GOODNESS she didn’t try and replicate the styling from the runway. Those black pumps work much better.

    • Anonymous

Perfection! I just hope everyone wore underwear to that party. ;)

    • Anonymous

Not terrible, but not a WERQ.  The length is really bad.

    • http://twitter.com/DonnaThePirana Donna

Hey, you might want to have a mid-calf hem if you were standing on a mirrored floor. Or pants. Pants might be advisable.

i want to see Rosie Huntington werq this dress

    • Anonymous

      On three: “Thanks, Brad!”

    • Anonymous

That bracelet is sending the b&w over the edge.

    • Laurie Bergman

She looks great…makeup, dress, accessories all WERQing.  My one teeny quibble would be the hem.  I would have ended the dress at the black/white band resting at the knee.  That extra bit of fabric hits her at an awkward place at the calf, especially with the ankle bracelet drawing another horizontal line not that far below.  But she’s so radiant and her makeup is so lovely that it’s easier to focus on her face her rather than her calves.

    • Anonymous

Would it be stupid for me to say that I’d prefer her wear black stockings with this dress?

    • Anonymous

Good job, Brad, assuming he’s still styling her.  The length makes her legs seems short, but otherwise fabulous.

I saw her GG red carpet interview with Ryan Seacrest and I was surprised how inarticulate she was about what she had on and fashion in general.  I’ve never pegged her as brain surgeon material and talking to Seacrest probably drops anyone’s IQ a couple of dozen points, but she was really, really unable to say anything even remotely intelligible about her look.

    • Sara__B

She’s glowing and gorgeous in that dress. She’s glowing and gorgeous pretty much all the time lately. She has confidence and style that was totally lacking before she had kids. (Her stylist deserves a lot of credit, too.)

    • Anonymous

I think she looks fabulous, and the mid-calf hem is fine. You almost have to have it as the two separate blocks on the bottom are part of the design element. I  don’t think it makes her legs look stumpy. The “stripe” above the knee seems to break up the dress and help it visually somehow – also the slit – I think that’s what makes it so good.

    • Anonymous

Now if she could only act….

      • Anonymous

This just goes to show you how fucked up Hollywood is:  in the last Fockers movie, JA got billing over Teri Polo.  Teri Polo who’d only been in the other two films and deserved a little bit of recognition for it.  So wrong.

    • Anonymous

      Wow, signs of life!

    • Anonymous

Very nice, but I would like it a lot better if it weren’t that frumpy length. Otherwise I think she looks great.

    • Anonymous

Can’t stop thinking of the Carol Burnett skit where she was going to a funeral and a wedding in the same day and had a half-black/half-white ensemble.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

But where was she wearing the white to?  Because that wouldn’t be appropriate for a funeral or a wedding (unless she was the bride)…

    • Rebecca Johnson

I love that her lipstick is providing the pop of color. Good for whoever dressed her.

    • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I usually love mid-calf hems, but she’d have done well to shorten it just a bit. That’s a great dress, though, and she looks about a gazillion times better than the model does. Also, holy cats, I love those shoes.

      WERQ it, indeed.

    • Judy_J

      Fantastic.  Love it.

    • Anonymous

She’s rocking it harder than the model.

      Go, Mondrian!

      • Lattis

I’ve often wondered how Mondrian would respond to the clothes that his paintings have inspired. When I was in grad school I bought and wore a lot of vintage clothing (late 80’s). I found a fabulous wool sweater from the sixties that mimicked his color blocked paintings with bands of black separating bright colors. I loved that sweater. But, I am not sure Mondrian would have. :)

        • Call me Bee

That’s a good question.  We had a rug in the early 90s that was a duplicate of a Mondiran.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

      She looks great!

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

If pressed, I’d argue about the length but I have to admit she looks good.

    • Anonymous

Her shoes have bows, though….not digging that.  Something a bit more sleek would’ve been a better choice, I think.

    • Anonymous

WERQ indeed. See, you CAN rock an actual style dear. Very minor quibble…the anklet doesn’t belong with this outfit.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/VWVJVYZJCTXSQJA4E5PNEZLJA4 Jessica

The hemline works better on Ms. Jessica than on the model, because it hits at her knee which has some logic to it.  It just looks weird on the model.

This is rather monumental because I totally disagree. And that doesn’t happen very often. The reason I hang out on the TLo site is because I like to hang out with people who remind me of me. Oh well, occasional dissent won’t hurt our relationship…will it?
I think the dress looks like a track suit; I hate the length; I hate the Micky Mouse shoes (peep toes with bows are everywhere! why god why??); I hate that she is all in b & w; I hate her senior picture hair. Not feeling it my friends.

I’m glad she ditched the leg-warmer shoes…. she looks great!

    • Allison Woods

I think it’s too old for her, and I really am not a fan of seeing so much armpit. Seems like there’s been a lot of armpit lately in general and I’m ready for it to be over.

    • http://twitter.com/stopENtalk Brittany Johnstone

Best hair I’ve seen on her in a while!

    • Anonymous

She looks a hell of a lot better than the model…

    • Anonymous

the hair is too juvenile for the look but she is looking more exciting then she ever has. Exciting for her.

      All I see is armpit.

    • Call me Bee

      It’s a Mila dress!  Perfect!

Are the shoes Chanel as well?

Also, that’s some sleek styling. :)

    • Anonymous

I really like the top of the dress, but it looks like the lower half is a little small for her. Am I drunk?

    • Anonymous

Are those sweater thongs on the model? PLEASE tell me this isn’t going to be a THING!

Also, Jessica looks fab, but I’ve always been a sucker for a great black and white ensemble!

    • Anonymous

      Still hate the hem.

    • Joey Melliza

i don’t know – the shoes kinda makes her look a bit cankly…

Agree totally–not an easy dress but she looks exquisite.

A mirrored floor?  Really?  Where woman are wearing dresses?

I’m just glad she ditched those horrifying flip-flop/legwarmer hybrid things.

I loveeee it from the waist up, but the shoes don’t really do it for me.

Jessica Alba will NEVER get a “WERK” from me. I find her class-free.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

She looks a hell of a lot better than that mopey, schlumpy model!

    • Anonymous

the dress is gorgeous and she looks very well turned out.  would have liked a more interesting purse, the one the model is carrying is intriguing.  glad she didn’t go for those awful thong/flip-flop/leg warmer combos.  wtf…

i loved jessica when she first came on the scene with her full-lipped sensual sexual multi-ethnic beauty.  what happened?  it seemed like once she had her baby and lost the weight, she turned into some generic skinny young white starlet.
