WERQ: Elisabeth Moss in Giorgio Armani

Posted on January 11, 2012

LIZZIE! You put some effort in!

Oh, don’t pout, Lizzie. We know you’ve put the effort in before, but the results have almost always been underwhelming, to say the least; a succession of skin-colored gowns and hairstyles that didn’t flatter you.

But look at you now, with your Cha Cha skirt and your red lips!

Elisabeth Moss at the 50th anniversary celebration for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Beverly Hills, California.

We don’t actually love the dress all that much, but girl, it is SO much better than the dirty pillowcases you tend to favor. You WERQ that skirt, doll!

  • Taken all on its own, I’m not in love with the dress (nor do I hate it!), but dang Elisabeth. You are looking hot. WERQ!

Showing her cleavage for the poor, sick children.

    • Anonymous

Exactly.  She’s chosen the St. Jude Children’s Hospital gala to dress like a tramp.  Well done!

      • Anonymous

Please, that dress is far from slutty.  I agree with T-LO, she’s werq’n it!

        • sekushinonyanko

I think they’re grading on a “head to toe frumpy beige” curve.

    • Maria McGarry

They like the allusion to pillows they may rest their weary heads upon.

  • Anonymous

Hadn’t noticed before that she has a figure.

  • P M

As with Miss Hendricks, Lizzie seems to have realized (please let it be so!) or stumbled on what works by following what worked for her character – hair and lip-wise. Clothes – well, Brava, love.
A note on how stylists work: Doesn’t anyone take pictures of what one looks like in a dress, the way they did in Clueless? Just wondering.

  • foodycat

She might as well make the most of it now, before the new season of Mad Men starts and she has to descend into Peggy’s wardrobe again. Personally I love everything about the dress except the rogue tulle above the neckline.

    • I would be happier if the dress were pulled up a bit and the straps shortened. Then she wouldn’t need the tulle and the shorter length would be flirtier.

She has looked so much better since she darkened her hair. The contrast is more becoming to her.

      • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Yes, exactly!  I couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t fitting her boobs too well – the straps need shortening!  Thank you!  Also like the darker hair better on her skin tone.

She looks great, but the girl needs bangs.  Stat.

    • yeah, her forehead is… considerable.

      • Anonymous

Considerable?  Girl’s got a forehead like an Expedition windshield.

        • Anonymous

A high forehead used to be considered a sign of intelligence. Hmmmm.

          • Anonymous

Poor girl has problem hair–she has major forehead, but really fine and thin hair.  She does have a great figure–it’s nice to see her finally play it up properly–even basic black is a better color choice than usual for her.

          • Anonymous

Thank you, that’s exactly it.  I have the same issue and a fringe (bangs) just does not work for me

        • kathrineb

Wow that’s so harsh. I don’t think her forehead is that big and I quite like her hair, but then I have a MASSIVE forehead myself so perhaps that’s why I’m a lot less critical, unlike Elizabeth moss I need bangs in order to look good.

    • Anonymous

I was so traumatized by the gawdawful Peggy bangs that I’d rather we look at the 4-finger forehead forever.

      • Anonymous

Yeah, the fourhead is far better than the Peggy bangs. I’m sorta digging her hair here.

      • Anonymous

A diagonal sweeping bang across her forehead would do wonders—or just bringing down the hair to the right of her part.

  • Sobaika Mirza

Not loving that hair style for her. From some angles it’s not so cute. But yes, overall it’s so much a step in the right direction that I’m willing to give her a Werq.

  • Anonymous

    she needs eyemakeup. per usual.

  • Sara__B

That’s more like it. And I like that dress. It’s low cut, tight, and shiny, but the length keeps it from being trashy. Elisabeth is definitely WERQing it.

  • Judy_J

Cha-cha-CHA! Lizzie unleashes her inner sex kitten. Meow!

  • Anonymous

WHY WON’T SHE WEAR JEWEL TONES. This is fine but srsly.

    • Anonymous

Agreed. Those eyes and that skin are just BEGGING for some jewel tones to bring them out. Why won’t somebody talk to this girl?

      • Suzanne Johnson

No, absolutely no, to jewel tones for Ms. Moss. Her coloring is too delicate and would be overwhelmed by cobalt blue, fuchsia, garnet, emerald green, or any other gem you care to name. The black is unobjectionable, but if you want color, let’s go with something more subtle, something that will enhance, not overwhelm the lass.

It seems like every time there is a posting on Moss, there is an outcry for jewel tones, generally led by TLo. But not everyone can carry off those strong colors, and she’s one who definitely cannot. And she’s evidently smart enough to realize that.

  • Anonymous

Wait a minute…who IS this girl? I don’t believe I have ever seen her before. I hope she sticks around.

    • Anonymous

Best known for playing major characters on both The West Wing and Mad Men (her character on The West Wing wasn’t quite as central). She was also married to Fred Armisen of SNL for a while? TWW and Mad Men are two of my favorite shows ever, therefore I like her a lot. (I suppose I should mention she is/was good on both of those shows.)

      • foodycat

I took theOriginalLulu to mean who is THIS girl – the hot, confident, well-presented version of Elisabeth Moss who hasn’t been let out before.

        • Anonymous

Oops! Ha, sorry. I see a lot of people asking “who are these people?” in comments, and I was feeling charitable (normally my thoughts involve the word “google” and a lot of swearwords). Anyway, I agree with you, now that I know what you actually meant.

  • Anonymous

I like her hair! Great figure. She looks confident, rested, and sexy! WERQ.

  • WERQing it, definitely! Can’t wait to see Peggy’s 66-67 looks. Wonder if the longer hair is a clue…

  • Anonymous

She looks like a Sharks chick (from West Side Story), and I mean that in the best possible way.  LOVE.

  • Anonymous

Lizzie has HAWTNESS. Last time she was out & about, I noted that black seemed to be her magic color, and I am so pleased to be proven right.

  • Anonymous

Pic # 2: That’s what I call a knowing look.  She looks great here.  This really shows her shape off in double-take fashion.

  • Wow, she looks great. WERQ!

  • Anonymous

She looks incredible. There’s always something a little awkward about her but (most of the time) that is part of her charm and why she really does the Peggy character so well.

  • She looks so much younger!

  • Anonymous

Yep, she’s got it going on.  Y’know, for a girl with such a lovely figure, she always employs the most torturous shapewear.  Your stylist is a sadist, honey!

  • Anonymous

Very nice. She has the most beautiful eyes. But still–I can’t believe how pretty and alive she was 10 years ago on West Wing. A whole different person, it seems.

  • J MN

I actually like the whole look but some bright blue heels would’ve knocked it out of the park.  She looks great but needs a little pop of color besides her lips.  I think her hair looks fine, not as mousy and it looks like she’s going thru a bang grow out.  Overall a A- (graded on a curve).

  • Anonymous

This looks good for her.  She seems to have a big head and no neck, so she often looks like her head is photoshopped onto her body. At least this time it’s a decent body.

  • Anonymous

She looks a little uncomfortable, though, no? Own that pose, girl!

  • Anonymous

Her bust looks strangely long with that neckline.  Still, nice to see her in something that has a little bit of a kicky personality.

  • See, I think this is a perfect time to deploy some sheer hosiery. Other than that, WERQ!

  • Anonymous

I kind of like the dress but object to the length, which makes her look stumpy, and the narrowing straps, which make her look like a short linebacker.
Bangs, definitely, and maybe some highlights.

Otherwise, an improvement. Not great, but improved.

  • She looks awesome. Well done!

  • Anonymous

She looks fantastic!  I love the hair: graceful over her forehead without trying too hard for camouflage.

  • Anonymous

I think I going to make a gold version of this for my 50th birthday. Except without the modesty panel.

  • Anonymous

Skirt is just a bit too long but thank Jeebus Lizze has been listening!  OWN it, baby!

  • Anonymous

Looking at her, all I can think is “Wow. She’s got a lovely figure.” So the dress is definitely doing its job.

  • Tamara Hogan

LOVE that hair color with her skin tone! The dress and shoes are divine. She looks FABOO.

  • Anonymous

Yay Lizzie! I knew you could do it!

  • Anonymous

I like the dress, and I think she looks good, but here I am again, harping on the lack of flattering undergarments on a red carpet.  She has great cleavage but looks squashed.  UNDERWIRES, darling.  Sewn in!

  • MilaXX

*That* is a WERQ! Love the lip, the dress and the new hair.

  • Her boobs are bothering me.

  • Anonymous

A bit too matchy matchy, but, yay!, color!

  • But it doesn’t fit on top!

  • WELL!  Ms. Moss, if you’re nasty!

  • Lisa

GIIIIRLL!!!! WERQ!!!    Fred Armisen must be thinking twice!

  • Renee Thomas

Thank God! She found her inner hottie and let that fab girl out!
Perhaps this is mean-spirited, but I feel like underneath her quiet face she has 100 times the personality of January Jones.

  • Call me Bee

    Wow–she looks hawt!  Who’d-a thought?

  • Anonymous

this is so not working for me. her shoulders look mannish. the dress feels dated. her face looks pale. no-oh-oh.

  • Anonymous

Is that a Kristen Stewart smirk I detect?

  • SHe looks young, fresh and beautiful.  Go girl.

  • It’s dreadful! That neckline is way too low and the lace looks like her bra is showing. Plus the makeup and hair. Oh, honey.

  • Allison Woods

I like the dress, myself, but why does everyone hate accessories so much? And why mush she wear black shoes?

  • Anonymous

the best she’s looked in a long time.  i am tired of seeing black everywhere but in her case it’s a big improvement over her usual mouse colors.

  • This reminds me of my favorite line from Carrie: “I can see your dirty pillows!”

  • Anonymous

I”m going to go out on a limb here and say I don’t think this merited a “werq.”  Yes, she looks infinitely better than she usually does,.  But I think her hair looks limp and she still looks pretty plain.  Are we grading on a curve?  Maybe it’s just because the last “werq” was given out to Zoe Saldana, and this just isn’t in the same league.

  • She looks awesome! I thought you were being too harsh about her color choices in the past but seeing her here you’re totally right!

  • Anonymous

    Major improvement.

  • I wish someone would do a hair intervention on her, I’m not sure what it needs but it needs something. She’s darn cute here though

  • Anonymous

She has a sensational figure, great bust, great legs, and beautiful skin.  She needs to figure out how to wear her hair … this ain’t it.  The dress is very Barbie Doll but, yes, nice to see her in something other than egg shell and putty.  I’m so happy to see some classic heels back on the red carpet lately … we’ve have too many years in a row of ugly and dangerous shoes.

  • CQAussie

A bit on the bridesmaid-y side and I hate the shoes which reinforce that notion but still!  Well done!  also…..nice to see she’s letting the girls out a bit =D

ARE you kidding me?  She got a WERQ with that hair?  Improvement? Absolutely!!!  WERQ?  Not a chance!

  • Anonymous

What’s with all the criticisms??  She looks better than I can ever remember here!
