WERQ: Daniel Radcliffe in Antonio Azzuolo

Posted on January 25, 2012

We don’t normally give the “WERQ it!” shoutouts to boys, but we really must insist this time.

Daniel Radcliffe attends the world premiere of “The Woman In Black” in London in an Antonio Azzuolo suit. Tie and pocket square by The Tie Bar and shoes by Grenson.

Pretty damn close to flawless (although the neck tie is oddly sloppy). He has exactly the build for double-breasted: slim and small-shouldered. This is why Prince William always looks so bad in his double-breasted tuxes; because he’s tall and broad-shouldered. It does look to us like the jacket’s just a little short on him, but we really can’t complain when the overall look works so well.  We love the polka dot tie paired with the plaid pocket square; someone knew what they were doing when they paired those two. Throw in a freshly shaved face and a coif without a hair out of place, and you’ve earned yourself a “You WERQ that elegant shit, boy!”

I love Daniel Radcliffe, and have to say, that boy (man now, I guess) sure knows how to dress. I’ve always liked his style, even when he went for his self-proclaimed campy looks. Well done!

  • Anonymous

I’ll take that to go, please.

  • http://twitter.com/KristenMcMahon Kristen McMahon

    And his hem is perfection!

  • Anonymous

Daniel Radcliffe has never really made my kettle whistle (that kid who played Oliver Wood, on the other hand), but his clothes look fabulous here. Love the complementary patterns in the pocket square and tie and boy, that is YOUR suit!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1474713106 Katy Morris McDermott

Agree with you entirely on the kid who played Wood. And would you believe that actor’s name is actually Sean Biggerstaff? Seriously! (Who are you calling immature?)

      • Anonymous

I remember the entirety of my 8th- or 9th-grade class (can’t remember) sniggering over that endlessly. WOOD! BIGGERSTAFF! HAHAHAHAHAHA but seriously, you guys, sexy. HAHAHA!

        Ah, girls’ school memories.

      • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

I thought I was the only one to notice Sean Biggerstaff until I brought him up in a group of mixed friends. The gay guys and straight gals knew who I meant. ;-) I was young enough to not feel dirty lusting after him…fast forward to Azkaban when I was too old to find the 15-year old hot.

    • Terence Ng

Thank God, I’m not the only person who remembered Oliver Wood and his sexy accent…

He made me so swoony when I was a teen.

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

He made me feel like a dirty old woman. It always amazed me that R.Patz had so much hype when there was beautiful Oliver Wood!

        • Anonymous

Agreed.  I thought he was so cute, and it felt so wrong!

        • Anonymous

Right there with you. So uncomfortable sitting next my kids in a kids’ movie thinking one of the kids in the movie was hot.

        • Anonymous

I never got the R.Patz hype at all, ever. He’s just so damn off-putting to me…

    • Anonymous

Yes, Oliver Wood!  Also, Neville Longbottom grew into QUITE the fine looking gentleman.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Oh, Neville.. my favorite character with the bonus of the actor turning smoking hot as a grown-up….

        • Anonymous

My daughter watched some Harry Potter movies with friends recently and being typical 12 yo girls, they were all deciding who their Harry Potter universe boyfriends would be. My daughter decided on Neville, but with this caveat, “Not the young Neville, but the older, teenager Neville.” LOL

    • Anonymous

Yeah, my jury is still out on the question of whether Daniel Radcliffe is going to grow up to be a hottie, but I agree that he definitely dresses well.

      • BuffaloBarbara

Yeah, the jury’s out on “hottie,” but I’m on board with WAY classy.

      • http://www.facebook.com/kylee.gildersleeve Kylee Gildersleeve

He is already a grown up and super hot! Who are you lookin at?

    • Anonymous

Yeah, my jury is still out on the question of whether Daniel Radcliffe is going to grow up to be a hottie, but I agree that he definitely dresses well.

  • Presumptuous Insect

*sniff*  I’ve known him since he was a baby . . . aaaawwwwww.

  • Anonymous

He looks fantastic!  There is no part of this look that’s out of place.

  • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

Daniel holds a special place in my heart because he was the first person to make me feel like a dirty old woman for finding him hot in Prisoner of Azkaban. He looks great here!

    • Anonymous

Haha!  My dirty old woman moment was Rupert Grint in Goblet of Fire.  It was totally the hair.

      • Anonymous

The Weasley twins, with the long hair.

    • Anonymous

For me it was the tub scene in Goblet of Fire.  Aaah, memories.

    • http://www.facebook.com/mary.nease Mary Nease

I have mixed feelings about Dan in that movie. I was like 14 when it came out, so it was perfectly acceptable for me to lust after Dan then, but now I’m 21 and I still think he was at his hottest then. I mean he’s hot now, but he was even hotter to my 14 year old self in PoA.

      • http://twitter.com/arodenha Alli

Jesus, I’m more depressed that it’s been 7 years since PoA. Damn does time fly.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=645442822 Sophia Vaccaro

AGREED. he was DAMN fine in that.

  • http://twitter.com/Moondragonic Charlotte

A stylish and well-fitting suit on a adorable guy, that definitively deserves a WERQ.

  • Anonymous

I’ve had a crush on him ever since I saw him in “How to Succeed…” last year. He’s so cute, and such a shayna punim! And he’s a remarkably good song and dance man. Not Hugh Jackman, but very good.

Anyway, he looks great here. I’m going to show this one to my teenage sons and hope they take some sartorial hints.

    • Anonymous

I like that he’s really challenged himself, first with Equus, then with How to Succeed, now with that creepy horror movie thing that I just can’t bring myself to see, no matter how much I like DR.

      • Anonymous

I agree! He seems to have his head screwed on right.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

He reminds me a lot of Matt Damon when he was younger — not in looks at all, but in choices.  Both went for roles that would help them as actors rather than as celebrities.

      • Anonymous

THIS! I’ve seen many-a-broadway show be KILLED by gimmicky tv/movie-star casting.  (I saw Melanie Griffith FALL on a cartwheel playing Roxy in one of the most UNINSPIRED performances of Chicago ever!) I was so pleasantly surprised to see how talented, energetic, and HAPPY to be there he was.  I was expecting mediocrity, and while I wasn’t BLOWN away, I was just grinning the whole time. You can tell he really wants to do it right, and be accepted as a legitimate member of the broadway community.  I don’t think he deserved to win a Tony, but he was definitely gipped for a nomination (John Laroquette was funny & very well suited for the role, but the Biggley doesn’t require nearly the amount of talent & energy as Pierpont..)
I totally want to adopt Dan as my long-lost British cousin. I don’t have any crush, I just want to hang out and be a geek with him :)

  • Anonymous

I loooove the one-raised-eyebrow look in the second picture. Fabulous all around!

    • Pam Winters

It’s very Matt Le Blanc. (And that’s not a bad thing in this case.)

  • Sobaika Mirza

He really knows how to dress, doesn’t he? Let’s hear it for the British!

On a side note, I really think the world of Daniel Radcliffe. I’m a massive fan of the Harry Potter books but find the movies to be pretty dreadful and never thought much of him. I did find his off-screen behavior to be quite charming (he’s very kind to young fans, supports great causes, and it’s remarkable that he and the other young cast aren’t injecting heroin into every orifice) but he won me over when I saw How to Succeed… He was marvelous and really engaging, knew how to work a live audience. I wish him every bit of success.

    • Anonymous

      Ditto!

Although I don’t think any of the flaws in the movies can be attributed to him — he did a good job playing the movie character, even if that differed from the book one quite a bit :)

    • Anonymous

      Ditto!

Although I don’t think any of the flaws in the movies can be attributed to him — he did a good job playing the movie character, even if that differed from the book one quite a bit :)

      • Sobaika Mirza

Agreed, no flaws in the movies can be attributed to him, but at the same token I don’t think he was particularly good either. I found him to be bland and thought a few of the other young actors regularly outdid him. It wasn’t until I witnessed his work firsthand that I had any feeling other than warm ambivalence.

He also did really well on SNL last week, very talented young man.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

He’s wonderful. I love how smart, funny, and self-deprecating he comes across in interviews. What a prince. Also, he parties with drag queens. ;)

And he looks terrific here. Go DanRad!

  • Anonymous

Not quite a WERQ from me. The jacket is at least an inch too short, and that’s TOO MUCH. Maybe lower-case werq for everything else.

  • Anonymous

I actually think short men shouldn’t wear double-breasted jackets, but as you said, he’s slim and small-shouldered so he’s an exception. He does look pretty great here and his eyes are all kinds of gorgeous. The polka dot tie made me smile. WERQ!

  • Anonymous

Daniel Radcliffe, you amazing cinema godlet. Give your stylist a nice bonus for this WERQ.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=645442822 Sophia Vaccaro

      HAHAHAHAHA!

  • Anonymous

And those pants! Just perfectly hemmed!
    I love the tie/handkerchief combo…
    Great job Daniel!

  • Anonymous

He looks spectacular.  And he’s such a mensch.  Love.

  • https://profiles.google.com/104791269167429064986 Judy S

    Very nice indeed.

  • Jennifer Coleman

Lookit little Harry Potter shutting it down! Love the contrasting tie & pocket square. And the jacket buttons. Most importantly, he doesn’t appear too self conscious, a la Ryan Gosling.

  • Terence Ng

Is anyone who isn’t slim and small shouldered going to look WERQ in a suit? It’s silly, but it seems that if even the hottest muscular guys have trouble looking anything but boxy, anyone who ‘s less than a muscle god in the same, terrible boat.

So good for Daniel. Lucky bastard.

    (ps I totally love you.)

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Yes.  In fact, a broad shouldered man can look AMAZING in a properly cut and tailored suit.  The big problem many of them have is the neck is too short and broad, but there are some very fine looking men in suits who are by no means small.

Examples: Micheal Jordan in his heyday and Denzel Washington ever. Neither is narrow-shouldered (though not exactly linebacker proportions either)

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

This is the very definition of the word dapper. Well done that man!

  • http://pleasewelcomeyourjudges.com/ Brian @ PWYJudges

Ginny Weasley would approve, for sure.

  • Lauren Maier

    Damn, yes.

  • http://profiles.google.com/dchockeyguy Trevor Burroughs

yes, the jacket does appear to be a little short. However, I think if it where the proper length, he might look a little lost in it.

  • Jackie Gilliam

Pay attention Hutcherson.  This is how you do red carpet premieres.  I wouldn’t recommend the double-breasted suit for your build, but take notes otherwise!

  • Anonymous

He is going to be incredibly handsome when he hits his 30-40s. He’s got that jaunty dashing quality about him that reminds me of the WWII era movie stars, kind of like Robert Mitchum or Gregory Peck. I’m really looking forward to seeing him in mature acting roles.

    • Anonymous

I was just thinking the same thing.  A few smart role choices, maybe a messy romance in there, some character wrinkles…he could be quite sexy.  Of course, it’ll take a decade for me to get those HP glasses out of my head.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

He needs to consciously work on building himself in the Cary Grant/Gregory Peck mold… it’ll suit him better than the unkempt look of his contemporaries.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

    WERQ!

Are there two different colors of buttons on the jacket (top pair vs. bottom pair) or is it just a trick of the light?

  • http://twitter.com/RockShrimp Willow

My biggest regret from DR’s stint in How to Succeed is that he never noticed that I’m the only person on earth shorter than he is and fell in love with me. Stupid girlfriend. ;)

  • Anonymous

Agree on the WERQ, showing those other young Hollywood males how to bring it to the red carpet.  So refreshing to see a man who doesn’t look like they rolled out of bed onto the red carpet in someone else’s suit.

  • Anonymous

Perfection.  He, or someone hovering near-by, has the good sense to get a tailor involved for alterations.

  • http://www.facebook.com/seelebrennt Christina Diaz

it sounds so silly, but i am so PROUD of him.  he seems like such a darling young man and thankfully has managed to grow up in the spotlight without making any serious missteps.  it’s a credit to his family/upbringing.

all that aside, he looks great.  those eyes!

    • Anonymous

Apparently when casting the first Harry Potter movies, director Chris Columbus made it a point specifically to interview/vet the parents of the three lead actors.  He had previously directed Home Alone, and wanted to avoid anybody who even remotely reminded him of the Culkin parents.

All that to say, yes, DR’s parents deserve a lot of credit and so does he.  He seems to have a fantastic attitude, and has ever since the earliest interviews I can recall seeing with him.  There was one interview he did not long before turning 16, either on Regis & Kelly or on Conan O’Brien, where he talked about how he wanted a big red Cadillac convertible as his first car. When the host pointed out how funny it would be to see “Harry Potter” driving around in that kind of car, Radcliffe not only took it well but seemed to find it hilarious himself. That’s the moment which pretty much endeared me for life.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I know what you mean. The three Harry Potter leads seem to have grown up into nice adults. I feel like a proud aunt seeing how well they have done! If any of them have been murdering hookers in their spare time they are doing it very discreetly.

Looks like he just stepped out of “How To Succeed in Business..”

I really like this young man and I want him for my lovely, not-too-tall daughter.

And he looks wonderful here, though I keep wanting to fix his tie.

This is the first time he’s looked like an adult to me.

  • http://twitter.com/Cravies Katie cravens

im just gonna say it: boy needs a tan.

    • Anonymous

Why? Being comfortable in your own skin (which he clearly is), means being comfortable in it whatever color it is. Even pale. Why should he have to scorch in the sun or buy a tan to look good?

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

ITA!  Some of us like our paleness, thank you very much.

He always seems to have a bemused look on his face. Like somewhere in his head there’s a voice saying “I can’t believe this is happening to me!”

  • http://smalltownbigwardrobe.wordpress.com Catherine

Wow. Did I just think to myself, “Damn Daniel Radcliffe is hot” ?!?!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

I ALMOST completely agree with you (I know, you’re devastated :)).  I LOVE the tie and pocket square, and overall he just looks adorable, but I can’t think of any circumstances under which I can get behind a double-breasted suit.  I just despise them.  I love the fact that he goes for it, though, and he has such a wonderful, grounded personality that he is one of my favorites.

  • Anonymous

    Love!

  • Anonymous

He looks fantastic. I do love the plaid and dots combo -well done!! Although he looks oddly uncomfortable maybe even lost on the red carpet -as if he is not sure where to stand and where to go.

  • Susan Crawford

He looks . . . absolutely adorable! I want to tuck him in my tote bag and take him everywhere with me.

  • Anonymous

Little Harry Potter has grown up!

  • Anonymous

The polka dot tie (love it) and the plaid pocket square absolutely make this.  Love a double-breasted jacket and that’s a very nice one indeed.  And shiny shiny shoes!

  • Anonymous

Once again, a Brit boy puts American boys to shame.  He looks elegant and at ease, and I love the polka dot/plaid combo.  Odd that the tie is a little askew, but that’s a small quibble.  Such a nice young man!

And TLo, thanks for doing a WERQ for a guy!  A guy who deserved it!

  • Cathy S

    Werq it Dan!

  • Anonymous

“I mustn’t put my hands in my pockets! TLo will skewer me if I do! But what the bloody hell am I supposed to do with them?!?!”

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

    Shut it down, DanRad!

  • Sarah Thomas

I don’t know. Is he really this wee?  Because this suit is making him look like the ring bearer at a really posh wedding.

    • Anonymous

He’s 5’5″, so yeah, pretty wee. I don’t think the too-short jacket is doing him any favours in that dept, though.

Other than that, I think he looks great, but the jacket is giving me hives. However, he seems like a truly awesome young man and he had real problems dressing himself as a teenager, so this is a massive step in the right direction.

  • Anonymous

    he is ADORABLE.

  • Anonymous

I keep wanting to reach into those photos and straighten his tie.

  • Anonymous

    Seriously? he looks ridiculous.

Seriously? A black suit and tie is “ridiculous?” Yikes.

  • http://twitter.com/hilaurious laura nikolas

double-breasted suits always remind me of Niles Crane. he (David Hyde Pierce) was also slim and small-shouldered but they were always so BAGGY (hey, it was the 90s).

    anyway, he looks great.

  • http://twitter.com/anacedillo Ana Cedillo

wow wow wow. he looks impressive! i love all the elements going on here and how well they look together. that jacket fits him so well, i love his tie and the pattern on the handkerchief

  • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Not a fan of those buttons, but that’s a very minor quibble.

  • MilaXX

eh’ I’m not a fan of the double breasted jacket on most men. He looks okay. I like that the suit actually fits and I really like the tie/pocket square combo, but I’m not that excited at this look as you guys are.

  • Toto Maya

I looked at him and thought, “He looks so BRITISH.” Then I remembered that he is.

  • Anonymous

I agree with everything TLo wrote above. I think that first photo answers the question: “Why do men always have their hands in their pockets on the red carpet?”…because they look a bit awkward. If the jacket were longer, it would probably help, as he could put his hands at the hem and assume the “holding a roll of quarters” position.

Mmmmm…. he’s getting better looking (and his acting’s getting better, too), as he matures.  This looks great!

He’s such a cutie pie. I love that he’s a young man who knows how to show up at a movie premiere dressed like he’s premiering a movie, not like he’s off to grab afternoon coffee.

He’s totally making my Wingardium Leviosa. Oh my stars, what a dapper young man he’s turned into.

A beautifully tailored double-breasted suit makes me go total cheeseball, sorry!

Quick coffee spray on the keyboard at your quip, MissAmynae! DanRad always puts a smile on my face.

  • Anonymous

It’s funny. Whenever I see him, I feel like, as someone said earlier, he’s wavering between, “Is this really happening?” and “Help me break out of the kid actor role!” It must be really, really scary to get to this age and be so unbelievably famous, and yet totally not sure if he will ever work again at the same time. Sure, he will get a few more roles while still riding the Potter coattails, but can he truly move beyond the most famous movie franchise character ever? I hope so, if for no other reason than I think he’s an incredibly hard worker. I wish the same for the other two leads. They deserve to continue acting, if they want to, but whether they will or not remains to be seen.

  • Mariah J

I like the tie from far away but not close up. What does it mean?

  • Sara__B

He looks adorably clean cut, like the sort of young man most moms want their daughters to date, and most daughters don’t want anything to do with.

  • http://twitter.com/connectinglines Me Again

Great outfit.  And pretty great grooming, although I feel like he could manscape the eyebrows just a tad more.

  • Jill Roberts

He looks fantastic.  I’ve always found it interesting that his hands in the “at rest” hand position is palms down.  Most people have their palms facing their sides.  It makes him look a bit dorky, not that that’s a bad thing.

  • Anonymous

Well look at who’s a Bitter Kitten… Way to grow up, DR!

Aw bless! And by the way – this is not always the case with this one so BRAVO

  • Anonymous

I think the shortness of the jacket takes this a little too close to waiter territory. But considering how most guys show up on the RC, I’ll second that WERQ!

  • Anonymous

Daniel’s definitely WERQ’ing this -good for him, nice to see him paying some attention to details!

  • Renee Thomas

Aw, he looks adorable! And you can tell in that second shot that he feels like he looks good, too.
Those multi-colored buttons and the polka-dot tie are elegantly unexpected. I feel like he’s been trying for that and always missing.

Daniel looks perfect.  Adorable.  I live across the street from “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” and I was so impressed with the way he interfaced with his backstage fans.  What a Nice Guy.  And for the record, his “HTSBWRT” performance was the most charismatic male performance I have seen on Broadway since Hugh Jackman in “The Boy from Oz.”
