T LOunge

Posted on January 05, 2012

Kittens, once again let us throw open the doors and welcome you all to your favorite imaginary drinking hole.

Tom’s Bar at the Augustine Hotel in Prague, Czech Republic.

Kittens are always complaining that we pick bars with uncomfortable-looking seating. Well, here you go. You’re going to have to trek to Prague to make it, but we’re seeing some lumbar support in the above picture, so quitcher bitchin.

Of course the #1 reason for the return of the T LOunge is because Project Runway has wormed its way back into our lives once again with the debut of Project Runway All-Stars tonight at 9.

It’s weird that we don’t have to be introduced to any of the designers and won’t have trouble remembering any of their names right out of the gate. Our question to kick off the comments section is simple:

Which one of these poor bastards is going to be the first one to go home tonight?

Follow along on the twitter tonight, darlings! We’ll be tweeting our thumbs off through the whole episode.

Sadly, I expect sweet Anthony to be gone pretty quickly.  The bar looks comfy, altho’ expect I’ll be whispering ’cause it seems to lux…

Nah he’s too good with the sound bite

I think either Sweet Pea or Elisa

    • http://twitter.com/susanpcollier Susan Collier

Mexican margarita, please! I’m going to vote for Michael Costello as the first one to go home. I wrote in Anthony Williams first, but now I think it’s Michael. We’ll see. I’m along for the ride.
Cannot wait to see what Kara Janx, Mondo, and Gordana cook up.

      • Anonymous

        Susan,

I’ll join you for both the margarita and the vote to send Michael packing. Once was enough, thank you very much!

So happy to see Mondo, Gordana and Austin again :D

At last! I’ve been looking forward to this all day. Make mine a dirty Grey Goose martini, please, and let’s get this party started! Sweet P is toast, I think.

    • Anonymous

Lovely!  Just the place to sip a little flute of champagne . . . or six!  (Depends on how bad the show is.)

I feel confident BM’ll keep big personalities as long as possible for the TV Factor, so I think Jerrell will be the first one auf’d.  (Will they still get auf’d with no Heidi?)

    • Pam Winters

I want that ceiling and chandelier in my dining room. I also want a gin and tonic with three limes. And people in hell want ice water, but they ain’t gettin’ it (sez my father-in-law).

I bet they’ll knock off Gordana early. Not that she deserves it, but she always seemed to be really, really underappreciated.

      Gorgeous bar.

I think Elisa will go first

eta: I’d like an Irish neat.

Michael Costello or the chick that spit on her clothes…what’s her name?  Anyway.

I believe I’ll have margaritas this evening.

        Elisa.

I really dislike when individual shots are turned into group photos. Gordana looks hilarious compared to everyone else.

Torn: first to go is either Michael Costello or my darling pixie Elisa, but I can’t decide which.

Seems I’m not the only one, either! *g*   Why don’t we pass the time with a few vodka-somethings, or even a few vodka-vodkas.  That chandelier demands that my drinks feature a certain dark austerity.

I am ever so willing to comply.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michelle-Shields/1200782178 Michelle Shields

I had the best pineapple martini last night and could really drink a dozen if I didn’t think it would put me on the floor (bathroom or otherwise).
If we are basing this on total weirdness I’d say Elisa. And you know everyone is going to pull out all the stops on this.

    • Anonymous

Who I think it will be: Elisa (boo!  I’d like her to stick around)

Who I wish it will turn out to me: Michael Costello or Sweet P.   I loathe the aesthetics they each bring and never thought they designed a good garment during either of their runs.

    • Anonymous

Michael Costello will be the first to go.

MY LIVING ROOM! What are you all doing in my living room?!  Oh, who cares.  Runway All-Stars is on, here’s a bucket of ice, the booze is in the cabinet and you can rinse out a jelly jar if the crystal tumblers are spoken for.

      • Anonymous

If that’s what your living room looks like, can I come over? I’ll bring brownies/booze!

I’m planning to redo my entire place based around bars from the TLounges… just for the fun of it…

I have missed you all so much!!!

I’m looking forward (trepidatiously) to some genuine designing of the cuttin’ ‘n’ sewin’ sort, not design by drama from B-M.  If the latter, I’ll be yowling with the rest of the Kittens about how we wuz robbed.  Again.  Y’know, I can’t remember all their names from the photo – I’ll have my recollection refreshed by the show, but it’s been a looong time since some of these designers have been giving an anxious eye to Brother Clock.

I think Michael Costello will be first out.

Some really earthy Czech beer, please.  It’s winter.

      All the best,

      NDC

    • Call me Bee

I am excited beyond repair to be back in the TLounge with all my cyber-buddies.  This is a beautful place–Bartend!  A round on me! And you can give me a bit of Tokaji–I’m feeling so sophisticated!
Elise will go first–she just does not have the guts for competition I don’t think.    But really–anyone–save for Mondo or Austin–could have a bad night.  BTW–April looks so fab!  I’m sure Peach will be watching tonight….
      Prosit, everyone!

      • Anonymous

Elise would be my guess for the first boot too, but it’s BM:  They could auf Mondo, just for the publicity.

Boys, you chose a gorgeous place for us tonight–that ceiling!  Those chandeliers!  It’s January in Michigan:  Please put a bottle of eiswein on…well, ice…for me.  I’m going to kill it in small sips.

        • Call me Bee

Oooh eiswein!  I think I have a bottle of that around here somewhere….

Check your fridge!  When it’s ice-cold, it is just amazing!

    • Anonymous

      I’m thinking Elisa probably.

But it’s so hard for me to find just one to root for! Austin! Kara! Gordana! Mondo!  I even like Michael C, Anthony, and Rami! My brain is in a tizzy.

    • Alloy Jane

Ah look, my future living room.  Damn, this means I have to put Project Runway back on my tivo.  Hopefully it’s listed as All Stars or something that won’t force my machine to record any of the garbage seasons that they’ll probably pump somewhere down the line, you know, before the end of All Stars.  The picture is def stupid and I think Sweat P will be out first.  I just don’t see how she can compete with the likes of some of these folks.

      • J Dreesen

(it is in fact listed as All Stars – your sentiment is shared at our house!)

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=608416678 Jenny Jackson White

Must have a White Russian – it will match the space.  I think Elisa will be gone, and I’m betting Austin wins this season.

    • Anonymous

I think we need to have a drinking game in which we must down our particular beverage every time Michael Costello cries or makes some other gratuitous attention grabbing move.

      • Anonymous

Let’s get REALLY hammered:  Chug every time Kenley whines.  That’ll be about 63 chugs in an hour.

        • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

Yikes. I’ll be on the floor in the first 20 minutes.

    • Anonymous

Mondo wins.  This is the season to make up for stiffing Mondo two seasons ago, just like the previous “All-stars-ish” show gave Daniel V the win he was robbed of in season two!   Fearless prediction!

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=608416678 Jenny Jackson White

It will be a close competition between Austin, Mondo, and Rami, I think.  But Austin for the win.

    • Anonymous

I’m not sure who will be the 1st one to get auff’d, but I’ll be watching! And drinking. A lot. I’m starting with some well chilled prosecco, and I’ll see where I end up…

April’s my pick for the auf.

    • http://twitter.com/TigerLaverada TigerLaverada

Well, I hope it’s Sweet P or Michael Costello — not because I don’t like them, but because they were the least impressive to me of this group. I know lots of people are guessing Elisa, but I think she’s pretty talented. The question is whether she can gin up her game for the peculiarities of reality TV. At least she knows what she’s getting in to at this point, so I hope she’ll do well.

    • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Urban Gypsy aka Tess

I’m so excited for this even though I know not to get my hopes up too high but how can it not be fantastic?

Probably a Nutella Martini or two (and I have the makings, you all can come over) in one of those comfy chairs in Prague would make it even better. One can dream.

      First to go, Michael Costello…

      • Anonymous

Could you explain how to make a Nutella martini, please?  Because I’m intrigued, and I just happen to have some nutella and some very nice vodka at hand….

        • Anonymous

I would also like the recipe but I have nutella and some horrible cheap vodka on hand.

          • JillK

I’m guessing that a nutella martini would actually include frangelico and chocolate syrup or liquer rather than actual Nutella.  I’m not sure how well it would blend down.

        • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Urban Gypsy aka Tess

          Here you go!
Coat a martini glass rim with Nutella and swirl in chocolate shavings if you haveMix 1 1/2 shot Godiva, 1/2 shot Frangelico, 1/2 shot creme de cocoa, 1/2 shot vodka, a splash of cream in a shaker w/ice and strain into your glassI love these things. If you like Nutella, you’ll be addicted.

          • Eclectic Mayhem

Intriguing… but also calorific by the sounds of it!

            • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Urban Gypsy aka Tess

Totally up there in calories especially if you knock back four of them!

            • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Urban Gypsy aka Tess

You’re welcome and you can always tone down the sweet stuff and up the vodka. In fact, that’s what I do. :-)

I just sent this to a friend with instructions to deliver one to my hospital room come May!  :)  We’ll just tell the nurses it’s chocolate milk…

Jarell should be auf’ed just for what he is wearing in the group shot.  Hiddy as usual.  I HATED his asthetic in his first go-round, and judging solely on that photo, I am not seeing much change. Ick.

Don’t count Kara Janx out yet!  Her finale collection was amazing.

It’s questionable whether or not I missed PR. But I DEFINITELY missed T. Lounge. Glad it’s back!!!!

    • Anonymous

Looking at that group, I think Anthony or Michael is gone tonight.

    • Scott Isaacs

Picture it: Denver, 12/31/11, the local gay watering hole, full to bursting and pumping the loud tunes. I’m about to order my drink, when I notice Mondo standing just to my right. Of course, I let him order first. I grab my drink and a slew of raspberry kamikazes for my friends, we toast in 2012, then I walk up to Mondo and wish him the best for 2012 and congratulations on everything he’s done so far. He doesn’t know me, but hey…random well wishes from drunk strangers on festive holiday nights are always welcome, right?

      Oh yeah…the question at hand…

Let’s see. In the absence of any other evidence, things do not look good for Michael C. He and Mondo are great buds, and Michael is here in Denver tonight with Mondo for the kick-off party. Much as I like him (I really do), the last time Michael C was here publicly was the night that Gretchen won PR; it seemed like he was here to support Mondo. Super cool move on his part, but I wonder if MC is here again in a similar capacity. And we all know Mondo’s not leaving anytime soon.

I hope this isn’t the case. I would not shed tears for Elisa or Gordana or Jerrell. (BTW, is Jerrell wearing a Rami Kashou original in that photo?)

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Oh he could be on hand to support Mondo in his hour of triumph too.  Like the friend who shows up for both funerals and weddings with you:)

      • Anonymous

Hello, fellow Denverite! Are you going to the kick-off party? Sounds fun.

      • Eclectic Mayhem

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to provide the Bitter Kittens with regular updates as to the mood in this fabled Denver venue.  And to give Mondo many of the Kittens’ love.

Scott Isaacs – minion in the field – do you accept?

This posting will self destruct in 5… 4… 3… 2…

        • Scott Isaacs

Eclectic Mayhem…LOVE your nick! Why I can’t get my nick (Uncle Spike) to show up is beyond me. I feel naked in front of the nation posting like this.

You’d love it. Beauty Bar is the place, and they have martinis and manicures on sale before and during the proceedings. Malheuerusement, I was unable to attend last night. But from my suburban outpost (from where I think I can see Kansas), I could hear the kittens cheer during his pinata comments and the judges’ comments about his dress. Mayhaps next Thursday?

I don’t know what most of them have accomplished since their PR season, and I don’t much care who goes when. I just want these designers to bring the quality, the beautiful and the well-crafted crazy.

Oh, and for B/M to leave their childhoods and personal problems out of it.

And I hope ScottyF comes back to the blog, I miss his comments.

            • Eclectic Mayhem

There was a bit of drama over Jude Law and TLo and Scotty F.  The whole thing was more than an overreaction.  (Just for the record, guys, I got what your point was in that).

            • Anonymous

Wow, I missed all that too. Thanks for the (non shit-stirring) update, Shannon.

            • Anonymous

Hear, hear!  You know, as often in life as we should be taking the
advice of some fierce queens, there are some situations that really call
for a Jewish Mother, someone who will grab you by the ear and say,
“Don’t show up for dinner empty-handed.  Smile and say thank you for the hydrangeas and shut up.
And whoever you insult, do TRY not to insult your biggest fans,
dear(s).”  We don’t always need diva lessons.  Maybe Liz is available!

And I’m sorry.  I had to say it.  And I don’t want to sound too harsh
about it.  I hope this can be seen as honest criticism from a fan.  This
blog IS so fabulous, but it’s disappointing when that occasional sour
note of dismissiveness appears.  I’m sure we’re all thrilled when we see
your cartoon avatar in the comments section; unfortunately as often as
not it’s a sarcastic bitch slap for one of the kittens.  That’s fine,
but how about maybe a balancing that out for the new year a bit?  You
know, the whole “minions” things is very funny, but only if we’re
confident that you do actually respect your readers.

The whole Scotty thing made no sense.  You do realize he is far and away
the most “liked” commenter on the blog, and that many people have said
he is a strong reason that they keep coming back.  It just makes no
              sense at all.

I’m sure at this point in your success you don’t want to just be
surrounded by sycophants.  So, please, before you react, consider
accepting this as some blunt but well-meaning criticism.  I hope I’ve
made  it clear I mean it that way.

            • Anonymous

Okay, I got carried away. Forgive me.  Being mid-divorce and dealing with all the really shitty economic fallout of all that, things have a way of spilling out where they don’t belong. And since the ex has an officially diagnosed virulent and terminal case of narcissism (“sociopathic subtype”), I’m particularly over-primed to any whiff of
dismissiveness.  I mean, it just kind of pushes my buttons and lights up every nerve like a Christmas tree.  So I admit to that.  (And not to sound too dire.  Things are looking up, and if I could carry a tune, I’d be belting the HELL out of “I Will Survive.”)

Still, I know many of us would like to see ScottyF back.  Think you might be able to facilitate that, boys?  Maybe he overreacted, got in a bit of a snit.  So how do queens make up?  I think he lurks, and he gave you that lovely Irish blessing for New Year’s.
How about a peace offering?  Maybe a nice note?  (And there’s my Jewish mother side coming out again!).

And again, if I was out of line, my apologies.

Looks like most of us agree on Michael C, Elisa and Anthony going first. I personally think it will be Michael C. My husband bought a bottle of something called fine chocolate and red wine. I was grossed out at the thought but tried it and man it’s tasty. Tastes like Bailey’s but with a little fruity taste. I put it over crushed ice and damn it’s tasty. Mondo or Kara Janx for thebwin!!!

I’m thinking Jerell will be the first to go. He couldn’t really control his impulses to add lots of geegaws to his garments in his season. And since a lot of people said he was cheated, he’ll take this as an opportunity to go all out (when what he really needs is editing).

    • Logo Girl

For some reason Jerrell (though I like him) is the one that pops into mind to go first. I actually think Elisa will be around for a surprisingly long time, though agree that Gordana won’t (sadly). I think Mila will be one of the firecest competitors and that Kenly may have mellowed out a bit. We shall see… Thanks for having the lounge in Prague! What a gorgeous and cosmopolitan city… I will have Becherovka shots (virtual).

Michael Costello first to go. Most of the other “crazies” have had more time to get less crazy. Or not. Maybe Elisa still spits on her fabric and uses her own body as a mannequin. I’m actually excited for the show, love the atmosphere, and I’ll have a glass of Malbec, please.

Wait, a one hour introduction show?  Are they crazy?  We need 90 minutes at a minimum to remember all the desginers.  One strike against the show and it hasn’t even begun.

jerrell or Sweet Pea (or kenley)

It would help guess if we knew what the first challenge is. (And what any of them have been producing outside of the show – I saw a very cute little dress that Michael Costello did that was at an awards show.)

Michael Costello BETTER leave right away. Elisa would be too obvious since she’s the only person who finished worse than 5th in her season.

      Anthony or Sweet Pea maybe.

I still haven’t decided if I’m up for this. I know TLo and the minions will do such a good job filling me in tomorrow, that might do me just fine.

If I could be sitting in that bar while I was watching, that might sway me. Alas.

Is anyone else upset about April’s new haircut. I don’t think I will like her as much without her signature disheveled top knot. She even referred to it as “the April” once when directing the hairstylist for one of her models. I hope she does really well in the competition because she was one of my favourites in her season.

I personally am very grateful for the return of PR because it means the return of the TLounge.  I am starting my first quilts soon, and I know we have some quilters in here that I can badger with questions!  The first two should be easy enough — they’re just t-shirt quilts for my oldest two — but I decided to try to make a real quilt for my soon to be sister in law for her going away present, since they’re moving to Colorado this spring, and I’m sure I’ll have questions and problems:)

      • Anonymous

I used to be a quilter, but I’ve never even heard of a t-shirt quilt. Good luck with your sister-in-law’s. I’ll pipe up if I think I can help :-)

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Oh, they’re ridiculously easy — you just cut the center design off t-shirts and set them all as blocks.  Mine will be slightly more difficult as they aren’t all the same size but that’s my husband’s problem.  I cut the blocks, but his job is to arrange them, because of his oft-proclaimed tetris skills:)

          • Eclectic Mayhem

            Rabid Quilter reporting for duty!

As far as t-shirt quilts, I’d recommend that you use some fusible thingummybob on each patch to make the t-shirt fabric a bit more stable and less inclined to curl up.

The last one I did had different sized patches so I did a scale-down mock-up with paper to work out the placement.  I used flannel for the sashing and minky for the backing so that everything was lovely and soft and snuggly.

            • Call me Bee

Experienced quilter here, too.  Yes–be sure to fuse some interfacing on the back of the T-shirt logo to prevent stretching and keep the square…um.. square.  I’m doing a T quilt for my daughter’s BF right now with some really old band shirts and the fusable facing is a life-saver.
You can pick my brain any time about quilts–I love to chat about them all the time.

            • Eclectic Mayhem

Oh, thank you, – interfacing! – couldn’t for the life of me remember the word.  It’s been a long day…

            • Call me Bee

You’re welcome.  BTW–I use the word thingummybob for many sewing things.  LOL….

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I told Aidan he could pick his own fabrics for backing and borders, and I told Kate that she could as well within reason and with far more supervision — she’d come back with full fur pelts or something impossible to work with:)

The one I’m more nervous about is the one for my sister-in-law.  We’re going to buy a bunch of white quilt fabrics and tie dye them separately with different color palettes (I’m safe to discuss this here ’cause she hates fashion and will never find me:) and then cut them into the blocks, but I want to do a pattern of some kind, albeit a simple one.  That way the final product will be very trippy with all the different colors and the tie dying… she likes that kind of thing — her bridal party is all being forced to wear tie dye for her rehearsal dinner with a hippie theme…

            • Eclectic Mayhem

Do you know how many colours you’ll have in the end?  If you keep some of the white fabric un-dyed you could have a checker-board with the tie-dyed colours placed randomly.

I did something similar for my brother and sis-in-law (without the tie-dye) and it looks great.  That was back in the days when I was doing it all by hand.  Thank heavens for machine quilting!

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I’m going to do a rainbow mix for the backing and edging, and then I’m doing 6 different bi-colored sheets that will be cut down into separate blocks — blue and green, blue and purple, red and purple, red and orange, yellow and orange, and yellow and green.  I figure those will be colored specifically enough to keep them straight while I’m laying them out:)

I just got a new machine so I figure the quilts will be easier to start with than clothes — the fabric is sturdier and the seams are straighter:)

            • Eclectic Mayhem

Sounding good so far!  I (and the rest of the Quilting Kittens) look forward to updates!

            • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LYXXGN7I6JXGRI27Y3QEQSM5VU d m

If you’re talking about dying bed sheets be sure to check to see that they are 100% cotton since polyester won’t take the dye well.  I, too, am a long-time quiltmaker and love that we are discussing it here.  I’d love to contribute to a TLo quilt.

            • Call me Bee

Utilize the Google onthe world-wide interwebs and you’f find a million easy quilt patterns–especially on sites for the quilt mage like Quiltmaker or American Patchwork and Quilting (my fave mag next to QUilting Arts)  You can download and print instructions and it’ll be real easy.

          • Anonymous

A couple of tips, in case you haven’t heard them.  Use a fusible knit interfacing to stabilize the backs of the T-shirts, and use sashing to create standard size blocks. Positon the biggest blocks first and fill in around them with the smaller blocks.

            • Eclectic Mayhem

Man, there are a lot of quilting Kittens!  We should collaborate on a quilt for Tom and Lorenzo.

            • Anonymous

I’ll take a couple of those pineapple thingys that someone mentioned upthread. MMMMMM!

I would not mind seeing Michael C or SpitLady head home first, but I have a weird feeling it’s going to be Sweet P, Anthony, or April (all three are high on my list of All-Stars I would love to hang out with and dish and drink pineapple things.)

    • Anonymous

I’d be OK with Michael Costello leaving first.

Ooooh, kinda excited actually. Hope I don’t end the evening with a pout. Or a string of @#$%^)(*&!)%^##&&(*^%!!!!!!!

I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw tonight, so maybe he doesn’t suck anymore.

    • BuffaloBarbara

      I love the bar.

Miss Anthony probably won’t be long for the show, and I don’t see April going all that far.  With Austin, it will depend on the challenge–I seem to remember him floundering outside his comfort zone (Postal Smurfette comes to mind).  I hope he goes a while, though.  I do like him.  Almost as much as I dislike Michael C (for no really good reason, I guess), so it’s guaranteed that Michael C will be in for the long haul.

For finals, I predict Mondo, Rami, and Jerell.  No real reason for the latter two, they just look like they’ll be in the finals.  Which I said about someone who got eliminated before the first challenge last season.

    • Anonymous

I think Gordanna will be the first one out the door.

    • Anonymous

Wonder if this crowd will be smitten with Jerrel like Heidi and friends were because I did NOT feel his designs at ALL. Everything looked like the laundry basket to me.  HE was funny but I hated his aesthetic

    • Anonymous

First one out? Michael Costello or Jerrell.

If I’m not mistaken, this is the second time T Lounge came to Prague. I love when everybody comes to my hometown!

    • Anonymous

I don’t remember Mila looking quite so Vulcan before. Anyway, I barely remember Jerrell and Elisa at all, so I think they will go quickly. Anthony and Sweet P also strike me as fodder. (Elisa is the spit marker, right? How did I forget that?)

So Elisa is my pick for first out the door.

I will be rooting for a final 4 of Mondo, Gordana, Austin and Kara Janx.

Why on earth did we not do a March Madness style bracket for this??  That would make me care way more.  TLo could seed each person (Austin and Mondo would be my one seeds, whereas Anthony and Michael would be on the bottom)

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Oh my God!  That would be brilliant! In fact, I think all future seasons of PR should be done that way — hell, I may try to figure it out myself. It’s not like the seeding would be any less accurate than March Madness is anyway, even just going from official bios!

Ooooooo, nice bar, boys. It’s clubby and comfortable. I’ll take a bottle of good, local beer, if there is one.

All-Stars seasons can be tricky and surprising. I remember how shocking it was when Jen C. was eliminated in the 3rd week of Top Chef All-Stars. Everyone expected her to be there until close to the end, or even end up in the finals. So it’s hard to predict who will go first.

I’ll guess Sweet Pea. I think she’s adorable, but I never understood how she even got on the show. She’s just not that talented. I can also see April leaving first. She has talent, but was really limited during her season. Anthony could go and I wouldn’t miss him, but he’s the King of the One-Liner, and I guess he’s still hugely popular with the viewers. Michael C.’s work is unpredictable, and he could easily bomb out in week 1. But he’s a huge crier. I can imagine them keeping him for the drama. I’d like Michael to stick around. I like him, and I want to see what he can do when he’s not being targeted by The Mean Girl Brigade.

      • Anonymous

That Top Chef upset was so sad. She seemed really unhappy and like she had some unresolved things going on the whole time, so ultimately I wasn’t surprised when she left…but she seemed like a completely different person from her first time around. I hope she’s happier now.

I think for the “Unconventional Materials” challenge, the rule is lifted. When working with fabric, it seems as though the glue gun is a no-no. But I recall a BUNCH of times over the seasons when designers resorted to the old glue gun to get their look together by runway time, or to make trimmings stick. And wasn’t there some argument at one point over the use of double-stick tape???

I have to say, much as I love Tim Gunn, without the usual personalities on here, it’s a bit of a breath of fresh air. I am not worried about them letting me down and picking Anya.

It’s sad that Austin has so little self esteem. Hee.

      Rami. holy shit!

      Mondo FTW!

I like this host better than Molly Sims on Project Accessory…they’re still making her read the Heidi Klum script verbatim, but she seems to be making it her own.

      • Anonymous

but she didn’t say “auf wiedersehen”! nor did she kiss Elisa goodbye. I was please about that. I felt like she was trying to make those moments with the designers her own by elaborating a bit more on the winner / runner up.

      Mila used color..*shock*

      • Anonymous

I’m running the risk of over posting this evening, but I don’t feel like going to sleep yet. Anyway, when Mila’s first piece came out, I felt like it was exactly the same thing she did for her own season. Not alot of growth / development / moving forward (except for the green for the 99 cent store challenge).

Wretched shots of the runway work – obscured by the names and goofy, contrived camerawork.

Completely agree.  We got to see Gordana’s dress for about two seconds.

        • Anonymous

If that, Inforapenny, if that!  I wanted to see what that dress was made of.   Camerawork trying to create tension – how about good commentary and fuller shots – a story.

I miss Tim.  There. I said it.

    • Anonymous

So why was Elisa on the show? Someone had to go first.

      • Anonymous

Exactly! When I read about the lineup months ago, that’s exactly what I thought, and so it was.

The producers must have been so disappointed when she did as she was asked and actually made something that echoed her original look and didn’t look like it came from a dollar store. Whereas nobody would ever buy Sweet P’s entire dress for a dollar.I told my husband at the beginning of the show that Elisa had been brought on to provide a painless and noncontroversial “auf” for the celebratory first episode, and on the runway she let them down by doing much better than expected. Too bad–the producer’s preordained conclusion must be honored!I was very pleasantly surprised by everything else about the show, having been bitterly disappointed by last season, but it’s Anya all over again in terms of the scoring not being based on the actual pieces.

    • Anonymous

WHAT?  I love SweetP but her dress was crappy.  And Elisa, even though she’s from the Planet Xenon, designed something well sewn and interesting.  Honestly, that Marchesa person just thought Elisa was embarrassingly weird and auf’d her for that.  BOO.

      • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Urban Gypsy aka Tess

I agree with that totally. Elisa’s thing was interesting, I swear I could have pieced together that thing Sweet Pea made and I don’t sew.

      • Anonymous

Definitely.  Elisa’s was a little tacky, but there was thought behind it.  Plus, how many times have we seen ill fitting granny panties in this show?  Elisa’s fit wonderfully and were made out of unconventional materials.  Her construction alone should have let stay over Sweet Pea.  Still, it was a promising start!

      • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

Yeah, I don’t get it. I love Sweet P too, but a terrycloth mumu? She makes terrible clothes. I also love Elisa, and I’m bummed that she left so soon.

          • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

Me neither. I wonder if she was originally supposed to be cannon fodder. (I feel terrible saying that, but almost everything she makes looks like something you’d find at a church rummage sale) Surprise! She made it to the top 5. I think it was kind of cruel to string her along like that. She was crushed when she was the only one who didn’t get a chance at Fashion Week.

I must say, it’s very refreshing to find that I agree with the judges.  And to hear intelligent, thoughtful comments from the judges, instead of “It looks like a mother of the bride wearing a disco ball in her crotch!!!!!!!”

Rami, Mondo, and Jerrell all made beautiful dresses.  And Rami’s been working out, no?  Holy cow–those guns!

      • Anonymous

I know! I was really pleased with all of them! Loved Mr. Downing coming to represent the house. Mizrahi was surprisingly tame, and I think, thoughtful in his comments and critiques. I’m looking forward to the judging.  I don’t think I can get behind Joanna Coles as mentor, however. I mean, how can she go from vicious judge to helpful mentor? I wasn’t convinced by this episode.

Hmmm.  I’m figuratively shrugging and sort of mumbling “Ehh?”

Not enough camera on the designers.  Too many ads.  No particular beef with the elimination, though I think SP really should have been given the hook.  I have to say, Elisa is a gentle spirit and very gracious.

Will wait for the screen captures from Our Boys in order to be able to see the creations.  LT/B-M dropped the ball on that quite thoroughly.

Jeez, if you blinked you would have missed the judges’ critiques.  On the plus side, it feels really good not to have to look at the old judges and hear their cracktastic judging.  (Still mad about last season!)  It’s been such a long time since I’ve agreed with the judging and not want to throw something at the T.V. after watching Project Runway.

    • Judy_J

Yep..Elisa gets the boot. She showed the least progress since her last lackluster appearance, so no surprise there.

    • https://profiles.google.com/104791269167429064986/ Judy S

This was fun. Feels like Project Runway, old style. The clothes were great. Even the losers were more interesting than a lot of the stuff we saw winning the past couple of seasons.

      • Anonymous

I agree; thank you.  The eagerness of so many to trash the show, or to claim to be bored by it, and to talk yet again about the sins of Bunim-Murray, and to complain that the show was too short (when all they did last season was bitch about how it was too long) is hilarious.   Personally, I enjoyed I enjoyed it immensely.  I would have been just as happy to see Mondo win, and was so happy to see him, and some of the others, again.  And was quite pleased to see new judges.  I am getting so tired of Heidi, Nina, and Michael.

        • Anonymous

It seems obvious to me – when the designs are boring and ugly and the judging is cracked, 90 minutes is too long.

When there are 13 designersm the clothes are better and we don’t get to see enough of the clothes, 60 minutes is too short!

          • https://profiles.google.com/104791269167429064986/ Judy S

We did get 2 runway shows, which was really nice. Could have used a bit longer on the runways but if they added in another 1/2 hour you know it would in fact be filled with talking heads saying “Gee, I really hope I can win this one!” or the judges saying “I was disappointed in/pleasantly surprised by so-and-so.” I was relieved that the proportion of clothes and work to talking heads was relatively high.

    • Anonymous

Wow the snotty judging move to 24 hr catwalk?

    • BuffaloBarbara

Ah, my old Kenley dilemma, right up front.  She’s annoying as hell, but I love that retro aesthetic.  Didn’t like her entry in the challenge all that well, though “safe” was the right place for it, given the bottom three (sorry, Gordana!  Love you, but that didn’t work), but the first dress?  That’s in my wheelhouse, big time.

Is Santino coaching Austin on the asides for this or something?  Dude, tone it down.  And I must concur with the anti-‘stache-ers.

Michael C’s wasn’t too bad, though he was right that April’s kicked its ass.

Rami’s was well made and amazing use of materials and… ugly as sin.  I guess in the unconventional, great use of materials and super execution count more than aesthetic appeal.  I’d have given it to Mondo, but I can at least see the sense in their decision.  I liked Jerrell’s, too, but he didn’t use particularly odd materials.

I forgot about Elisa, or I’d have picked her for the first auf.  Sweet P’s was ugly, too, but at least didn’t have to be explained to death.  If you’re going for a prize of a boutique and Nieman Marcus, you can’t stand there explaining it to the wealthy yuppie on her way to the board meeting.

      • Anonymous

I also think Austin’s playing to the cameras a little too much. He’s become a caricature of a reality “star,” and that makes me sad.

        • BuffaloBarbara

The only thing I can think of is that he’s deliberately spoofing it as his own private comedy.

    • Anonymous

I’ll have a pink greyhound please.

First to go home:  Elisa or Michael.  Since I’m not watching anymore – by choice and circumstance – I will eagerly await your recap.

    • Anonymous

Wow, even though I gave Mondo the teensiest of edges over Rami, I am content with the judging. What a nostalgic old school PR feeling.

    • Anonymous

I love Gordana, but girl that dress was disco chicken. IDK Elisa’s was just too weird, I mean a dramatic flowing cape with…..colorful gym clothes underneath. It was kind of a let down and the whole “story” thing. And Sweet Pea oh Sweet Pea…Mondo was kinda mean about it but it did look like a busted ass pinata.

      • Anonymous

I thought Mondo critiqued Gordana’s use of crepe paper?  And you have to hand him that line about there better be candy was funny!

        • Anonymous

That cracked me up. I hope all models everywhere are full of candy, now.

    • Anonymous

Random aside: Rami and Jerrel look damn good.

    • Anonymous

I was pretty underwhelmed, but this is only the first episode. I’m fairly satisfied with the judging and it’s nice to see so many familiar faces. I’ll be tuning in for sure.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I don’t have the dislike of Elisa that some do — I always found her loopy but harmless — but I figured she’d be leaving pretty quickly.  A boutique in Neiman’s is not the place for her and that does have to be part of the considerations in finding a winner.  (In fact, I find it totally justifiable on the part of the producers — you want to give these people a real shot at a career, you need buyers not just art critics) I’d imagine Sweet Pea and April to be not long for this competition for the same the reason.  I can’t see Neiman’s really want to carry either of them.

    • Anonymous

I will say this if nothing else, we saw more design in this episode then all of last season. I’m content with Rami’s win. My frustration with him was drape, drape, drape, so I’m happy to see him showing that he can do more then that. Happy to see Mondo and Jerrell seems to have reigned in his crazy designs at least for now. Yeah, April kicked your butt Michael.

I think I’m happy, but it remains to be seen if I watch the whole season.

    • Ruth McGivern

OK, Sweet P and Elisa certainly deserved the bottom two, but to keep Sweet P? Seriously?? When I was little, my mom would take a bath towel, sew a large strip of elastic into one end of it and sew it together to make a kind of tube-dress pool cover up.  The minute Sweet P’s garment came down the runway I thought “that HAS to go.”

      • http://twitter.com/susanpcollier Susan Collier

I’m sure that Neiman’s would love to carry Sweet P’s schmatta, as long as she replaced the $1 washcloths with fine Egyptian cotton towels.

    • Anonymous

Much as I love Sweet Pea, her dress looked like something that you buy in one of those open air markets on a resort island. I have a couple of those, and I never wear them after I get home.

I was so good – I’m trying to lose some weight, so I’m not drinking, and I stuck with water during PR/AS. I like that bar. It looks like not only a good place to have cocktails, but I bet they serve tea in the afternoons. And it’s Tom’s bar, so what’s not to love?

      • Anonymous

I recommend a Crystal Light and Fresca “cocktail” if you don’t mind artificial sweeteners. Put it in a fancy glass, and it almost feels like a wine spritzer or something. Good luck on the weight loss! I did that this time last year.

    • Anonymous

I was sure Sweet P was the goner this week but I didn’t feel cheated by the judge’s choices like I’ve felt the last 2 seasons. I wasn’t sure if the winner was going to be Mondo or Rami and felt they both did well this week. On the whole, I enjoyed the show and didn’t feel it was a perfect copycat of Project Runway like Project Accessory tried to be.

we did not see all 13’s outfits on the initial runway  – but we get to see elisa chosing her bed???
      Kara and ?  Sweet Pea?

      • Pam Winters

Yeah, that bugged us so much that we watched the initial runway twice. I thought Sweet P should have gone home for that terry dress, but I was annoyed on her behalf that she was going to go home without our ever having seen her first runway look.

    • Mariah J

I think Sweet P should have been sent home. Of course Elisa doesn’t have a chance in hell to win but she at least makes me interested to see what she will make next. Anything Sweet P makes will be fugly and home-sewn…just like when she was on PR the first time.

      • Anonymous

I’d much rather see what Elisa has to offer, even though I understand the judges’ comments.  Sweet P’s dress was such an embarrassment. That would have been laughed at in Home Ec 1.

I got 20 minutes of show and 40 minutes of commercials, or at least that’s how it seemed.  And in the 20 minutes I got, I didn’t get to see most of what I was interested in–the clothes and the creative process.  When it was at the 30-minute mark and they were just getting to the workroom, I knew the episode was going to be a major disappointment.  Content, Bunim Murray, I need content.  Even your faux drama, i.e. Michael and April both used mops!, was completely half-assed.

      • Anonymous

I know what you mean. It was like going to an old friend’s house for dinner and they don’t serve enough food. Like, that was nice, but when do we eat?

Got in late, watching the West coast feed. Just had to add that I think Georgina Chapman telling Jordana that something has one element too many is the biggest case of Pot/Kettle ever.

      • Anonymous

Indeed. Has Marchesa ever met a flourish, flounce or other frippery that they didn’t love?

    • Anonymous

HATED Sweet P’s dress.  There was virtually no sewing skill in it, while Elisa’s had beautiful, interesting colors, and a perfect fit.  I guess they figured Elisa probably wouldn’t be a top contender so they might as well eliminate her early?  Still a shame, though, when all Sweet P did was tack some belts onto a couple of towels.

    • Anonymous

Schmeidi needs to work on her presentation skills, but I thought the episode was solid. I thought Rami deserved the win. His color choices were more interesting than Mondo’s, although I did like what Mondo had. I would rather see more from Sweet P than Elisa. I was shocked they let Weird Girl leave so early though. I DO know that I am going to be ready to strangle Michael C before he leaves. He is already annoying with his fake crying when Valentino came on. Bitch, please. Kenley was oddly low key.

This season should be Rami’s or Mondo’s.

      • Anonymous

On the other hand, Schmeidi’s clothes are SO much better. Especially her jewelry.

Can’t believe Sweet P didn’t go making a dress of sewed together towels that looked  like sewed together towels. Wow. But not sad to Elise go at all.  Six layers of annoying new age bullshit running around licking everything.

seriously.. do they not know how the critiques work?

          • Anonymous

Critiques normally have positive and negative elements. It’s just reality show editing that makes people think that they are either all positive or all negative.

            • Anonymous

I understand that. but typically they go right for the negative thats what makes it entertaining. so it was confusing to see it was all positive

            • Anonymous

Agree.  We’ve all gotten so used to the Braying Tangerine making sounds as if he’s being murdered and catty comments from Heidi and Nina passing as “critiques.”  One of the things I most liked last night was how balanced the discussions were.  How balanced and sane.

      • Anonymous

I thought it was faint praise at best, I felt. I think Isaac liked it a bit more than the other judges and even he talked about the problem of having to explain the outfit (though I think he also said he liked the colors).

    • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

Ok, that model/host girl who looks like Britney from Glee is tragic with her “I’m learning… To read?  Off.  Of cue cards.”  Too many soundbites and retarded shit and not enough time showing the process.  Just shows that BM still has it’s head firmly up its ass.  Disappointing for an opener, considering THIS IS A SHOW ABOUT FASHION, NOT ABOUT WHO GETS WHAT BED.  Krist, I don’t really care about the interactions, I want to see the process of making clothes and the runway show.

    • Anonymous

I am on Team Mondo and Team April, with some love for Mila and cautiously for Kara (I remember her being really inconsistent).  If I had to wear the designers’ clothes, those four would be the only ones dressing me. I acknowledge Rami is good at what he does, but it doesn’t appeal to me personally.

I know the show isn’t about what I want to wear, but dammit, that’s what I want to think about.

    • Anonymous

I will say these 13 designers put last season’s PR designers to shame. Even the ones that weren’t great were better and had more personality and interest than last seasons crop. I think Schmeidi needs to practice. Must..read..que..cards..better.

It was like watching the real Project Runway again – complete with real (as opposed to Sears) designers (hat tip to Zappa’s Apostrophe).  The only designer I never really liked was Kenley.  It was a joy to see Mondo kicking ass and taking names.  Mila too.  And Austen, and Gordana, and Kara.  Great work, great designers.  Fun times!

… some designs were a little bit cheesy but nicely displayed

True.  Still and all – it was the most fun I’ve had watching Runway since Lifetime took over.  Let us hope this bodes well.

“complete with real (as opposed to Sears) designers (hat tip to Zappa’s Apostrophe).”

“Is that a real Mexican poncho or a Sears poncho?” I never thought I’d see a Frank Zappa reference here. I almost squee-ed, although Frank would never approve.

Oh my dear…..Apostrophe was my favorite Zappa album.  I can still recite “Cosmik Debris” by heart.  It was super popular on Dr. Demento.

I used to sneak into my brother’s room and take his Zappa albums when he wasn’t home. That shit can change your life when you’re 14 years old.

It’s no surprise that Elisa’s hot mess got the first auf.

I didn’t recognize everybody, though.  Sweet P has lost quite a bit of weight, April did something to her hair, Elisa and Jerell, well, I drew blanks on them.

Eliza of course.  That blessed spit or spit blessing rap is just too ridiculous and she’s got zero taste.  Had to watch the episode twice over to catch a glimpse of the freaking clothes!  I gather this is how the show promotes its website — by showing subliminal flashes of the actual garments that send folks running to their computers to see what was produced.  I didn’t much care for Rami’s dress — when the Neiman Marcus fellow (last seen on Joe Zee’s show) was telling Sweet Pea that most women he knew didn’t want a dress that made them look bigger, I thought, well, yeah, nor do we want something makes us look neckless.

Sweet Pea looks awesome by the way and the mini-second I saw of her first dress looked very nice indeed.  I could watch Mondo and Austin all day — would love a tour of their closets.

I agreed with the win. And thought Sweet Pea should have gone home. Elsa’s at least had some artistic and design merit.

I have to add that I am really looking forward to this week on Project Rungay.

Is April channelling Wendy Pepper with the hair?  What is up with that?  She’s gorgeous, young, talented and skinny but that hair just looks about 60 years too old for her.

Uh-oh, did anyone else notice that Rami wasn’t in the episodes for the remainder of the season?  :o(  It’s all Mike C, Jerrell, Anthony and Mondo.   :o(

I’m sure that’s just a way to mess with the viewers. I could be wrong, but I prefer to think they’re screwing with us.

I just saw the beautiful, very well-constructed outfits Mondo and Rami made…then I remember that the current PR winner won her title without being able to make a sleeve or anything much past shapeless maxidresses. I welcome these new judges.
