Splash Calendar 2012

Posted on January 02, 2012

Darlings, here’s your pretty for the day; possibly… the whole year? Last year, the kittens went gaga over the 2011 calendar for Splash, a high-end Dubai retailer, so we figured you’d all like a look again this year.

Are there low-end Dubai retailers?

Anyway, the pictures are once again great and the theme is sci-fi B movies. To which we say, “Needs more bouffants and bullet tits.” Still, it’s fun.

      December is perfection.

This is more of a “If David Bowie was born a woman.” calendar. Look at his sexy curves!

That last woman has a salad bowl on her head.

      • http://onebluetree.blogspot.com/ Sara L.

That’s the exact sentence I uttered when I saw that picture!

        • Anonymous

actually, it’s the bowl from my salad spinner.  has she been in my kitchen?  sheesh, now i’m afraid to go out there.

January has made a nifty dress from her yoga mat.

I like last year’s calendar better.

Industrial turquoise is my new favorite color.

Industrial Turquoise is my new favorite name for a color.

How do you get one of these? Amazing

The dog and teddy bear are cracking my shit up.  Fun!

      • Anonymous

        I LOVE the teddy bear!

    • http://www.facebook.com/chloe.stabler Chloe Stabler

I love the stark beauty of the models compared to the slightly quirky backgrounds, like for November.  And then you get to December, and WOW.  That picture just takes your breath away.

    • Anonymous

Oooooh, I remember last year’s calendar. It was deeelish! Totally digging the saturated colors and robot pup and bear. Last year’s is hard to beat, though.

    • MilaXX

I’d love to see Gaga trying to walk in those shoes.

    • Anonymous

Man, I must be in a sick mood today, but I would swear that November is posing for a little planetary cross breeding.

Love the steampunk version of the War Horse puppet in January.

    • Anonymous

I want all of these images to be the inspiration for a season of Doctor Who. The season finale will be the May Calendar villain, who hijacked K-9’s brain and put it into a roller-derby cyber-dog. This is perfectly rational, as he is a time-traveler and will be forced to fight May’s villain in order to defeat December’s diabolical hair stylist of doom.

most importantly – WHERE CAN I BUY THIS?

      • Anonymous

It seems that they were only available at a launch event in Dubai. :( There’s a downloadable version at their Facebook though.

        • Anonymous

I downloaded it. It’s a decent size, about the size of the screen of an iPad. Images are sharp and easier to see the details. There’s an extra bonus image of the entire horse. I had to give my email address though and am now waiting for an onslaught of spam :(

          • Anonymous

i loved the horse. and speaking of dubai, my bank account was hacked today using an account in dubai. cleaned me right out, but the bank’s replacing the money. what is this with dubai today??

            • Anonymous

              Ouch :(

I anticipate this hanging in my Rocket Mechanic’s garage.

I love the Dec pic, but November’s outfit.  Want!  Where do I get one of these?  Calendars, I mean…

    • Anonymous

Lady Gaga must have done a gay gasp when she saw this calendar.

      Love it.

I love the reluctant hunch of Miss January; that’s exactly how I feel all of January.

And also, somewhere, Tilda Swinton is pouting that she wasn’t involved in this creation.

    • Anonymous

      meh.

Are these actual clothes? Half of them look like spray painted foam rubber.

I am reminded of Ra’mon’s green neoprene dress on PR, the one that Nina claimed to love so much.

Which we still haven’t seen on her :(

I’m ready to say Tim called her on a lie.

              Yep.
Wonder if she even recalls saying it (<_<)

Love your blog, Tom & Lorenzo. It is required daily reading in my house! I lived in the UAE for several yrs and returned to the US recently… from my experience, Splash is definitely on the lower end, full of trendy but rather disposable clothes. This calendar is full of limited edition stuff, it seems, not what’s in the stores. Splash is more akin to Topshop or H&M — better than Forever 21 but not as good as, say, Zara.

    • Anonymous

      Very cool.

    • Lauren Maier

So bizarre and so gorg.  Wonder how much these are going for…

    • Joyce VG

I still want last year’s calendar. *sigh* maybe someday.  This one is kinda meh to me.

      Happy New Year wonderful TLo!

I forget which comedian (Paula Poundstone?) said that it’s odd that when sci fi shows are depicting aliens, they always look just like humans, but with a metal eyebrow.  In this case, futuristic humans look just like modern humans, only with billowy clothes and no eyebrows.

    • Sara__B

I like the B-movie look of this, the way ordinary stuff has been repurposed in clever ways, and the same items show up in multiple shots. (I especially like the blocks added to March and May’s heels. I wonder if I could do that for Halloween, and not kill myself…)

    • Anonymous

oh but it’s so so much better sans the bullet tits. we’ve seen so so very many bullet tits at this point, you know. from the original bullet-seamed bullseye bras through the downmarket JPGaultier rips [i suppose you can get them from the backs of cars in stadium parking lots now, or at least in thriftstores after their previous owners discarded them upon realizing even the most once outré garments one picked up from forever 21 do not last past a single wearing]. we dont need to see more.

i wont debate you re: bouffants. such a time specific & often peculiarly unattractive yet compelling hairdo cant so easily be shuffled, forlornly, from the playing field. not even kate pierson could make it take off again, it’s like a one way door to the past. so i’ll give you. but & as before, fabulous editorial. tired, here.

    • Anonymous

Meh. These do not mesh with my sci fi fashion prejudices.  November dress is interesting and January picture is *almost* evocative of a good story.

[Pay no attention to the curmudgeon.]

    • Anonymous

Clearly women don’t walk anywhere in B sci fi movies in September or October!  I like the attack of the killer seaweed in November the best!

    • Anonymous

These pictures all feel kind of rote, using their oversaturation to make up for the fact that they’re not particularly special… Not nearly as interesting as the previous one.

Wow. Who knew you could make clothes out of yoga mats!

I am based here in Dubai. Really, I don’t know why they clam it is a ‘High-End’ retailer.  The clothes are so affordable, even more affordable than H&M and New Look! The pictures are very lovely, and seem to make the brand look high-end, though.

March’s hair is awesome. And November’s dress looks like its made out of cassette tapes.

    • Anonymous

I need a salon like the one frequented by Miss October.  Multitasking at its best!

    • Anonymous

I wish August had eyebrows. Freaks me out a little.

      Was Gaga busy?

    • J Dreesen

Feb is my fave.  Reminds me of the council chamber from that movie Millenium (starring…wait for it…Kris Kristofferson and Cheryl Ladd. Wtf?!).  “Then you went back to 1985 and lost…another…stunner…”

    • Cathy S

I want the November robot. It’s cool.

Seems sorta done. Like in 1986.
