SAG Awards Red Carpet, Part THREE

Posted on January 30, 2012

Don’t falter now, girls! We’re at the home stretch of bitchery!

Amber Heard in Zac Posen

Enh. More weird cutouts. Seems to have been a theme for the night.

Amber Riley in Badgley Mischka

The shape is great on her, but no gal should ever wear a bow that big on her front. Don’t much like the hair and makeup either.

Angela Kinsey

Pretty. So generic she could be modeling refrigerators on a ’50s game show, but still pretty.

Berenice Bejo in Ralph Lauren

The pendant is beautiful but it doesn’t lift this dress up from dull.

Dianna Agron in Carolina Herrera

Check YOU, Nancy Drew! Color AND cleavage! We feel a little faint.

Also, you look great, but the purple shoes were a no. Hair is fabulous, though.

Ellie Kemper in Lorena Sarbu

Absolutely gorgeous color on her – but that doesn’t mean it should have extended to her eyeshadow.

Emilia Clarke in Chanel

Striking, but we don’t love the sleeves.

Jane Lynch in David Meister

Why Miss Jane. We do believe you found the perfect dress for you. Have one made in every color.

Jenna Ushkowitz in Rebecca Minkoff

A lot of the ladies were just dying to show the world that strip of skin just above their hips, for some reason. A bit too much going on here.

Julianna Margulies in Calvin Klein

Pretty. No complaints, although it looks a little bridal.

Julie Bowen in Temperley London

Don’t love the platform shoes (never with a gown, ladies), but the dress is soft and pretty – and she tends to default too much to the hard and severe. We love the color on her. Hair’s a bit disappointing.

Katrina Bowden in Amsale

Practically identical to Julianna Margulies’ dress. Ladystars, why on earth would any of you pick a white lace dress for the red carpet? You KNOW someone else will be wearing one.

Kristen Wiig in Balenciaga

Really fabulous shape and neckline for her. We would have liked some color, though. The choker is all wrong.

Maria Menounos in Dolce & Gabbana

 Enh. Seen it. Seen them.

Meryl Streep in Vivienne Westwood

God bless ya, Mary Louise. We don’t know how you got into your head that volume and big belts were your best friends, but at this point, it’s almost funny how much you stubbornly stick to these kinds of looks. Pretty color, but the proportions are, once again, terrible.

And the hair is surprisingly frumpy and aging.

Natalie Portman in Giambattista Valli Couture

Gotta give it up for her; she looks amazing, even if it’s fairly simple.

Naya Rivera in Naeem Khan
Scorching hot, but a bra would have been nice.

George Clooney in Giorgio Armani and Stacy Keibler in Marchesa

He still insists on suits a size too large for him. She looks spectacular. Possibly a personal best for her.

Tina Fey in Vintage Versace

It’s kind of hard not to see Sarah Palin when she wears her hair that way, but we love the simple elegance of the dress.

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Couture

I don’t think Natalie looks that great, frankly.  She looks sad and/or bored and/or tired, and that third boob made of fabric is distracting.

    • Agreed, and with that huge bow thing over one boob.  She looked better preggers last year.

      • I actually like it, particularly that rich chocolate brown. But I have to agree, that purple dress she had to the Oscars last year suited her better. It was Marchesa, right ?

        • Sobaika Mirza

          • Thanks for the information 😀

        • Anonymous

Rodarte made her Oscar gown, which I really liked.

        • Anonymous

That color would have been perfect for Kara’s cayenne chocolate gelato gown on PR All Stars.

      • That’s because she was getting sleep and she had the pregnancy glow. Now she has the “I have an infant and don’t get much sleep” look.

    • Sobaika Mirza

      BOOB RUFFLE! Boob ruffles everywhere!!!

      And her makeup is bad.

      • Anonymous

And the hair doesn’t work either.  This is a big thumbs down from me. (I’m sure she’s devastated.)

    • Anonymous

And, her HAIR – looks like she just went for a run before getting dressed.

    • Anonymous

Natalie NEVER looks happy or present.  I can’t figure it out.  Maybe she really dislikes the whole red carpet posing routine?

      • That’s it exactly. And, as pretty and sweet as she looks when she smiles, she tends to look really severe when she doesn’t.

I don’t love her dress anyway, but the boob ruffle (credit to Sobaika Mirza, above) is ridiculous.

    • I totally agree with you sarah!  She looked like she was pissed about something or had to go to the restroom…LOL

    • Agreed. She’s so tiny that the giant bow overwhelms her (at least at that angle). Love the color, though.

    • Anonymous

Natalie looks like the photographer caught her in the middle of stifling a belch.

  • Anonymous

TLo, you boys could do eight megaposts a day critiquing RC looks, and I would never tire of it – these posts are my faves.

  • Anonymous

Shutting. It. Down. means good, right? Because I loved it and think Zoe always looks amazing.

    • Anonymous

yes that is a good thing 🙂

    • Anonymous

Shutting it down in the sense that everyone else can just go home because they stand no chance of looking better than she does.

      • Anonymous

Oh good, thanks. Because I’ve read a couple of the other fashion blogs and commentaries and they all seem to be giving her the thumb’s down. I gasped when I saw her because she may be the only person who can pull that off, but she does. She really has the body of a fashion model and you can see how sexy she is without her feeling the need to show a lot of skin. (I’m looking at you Lea Michele.)

        • Ha! I’ve never understood the fuss over Zoe Saldana, but that woman could teach Lea Michele a thing or 10 about looking sexy instead of looking like a moron.

And I do have to give it to Zoe here. She is looking  mighty fabulous.

    • I can’t get over that tank top showing through.  Ugh!  It throws off the entire look.

  • Joe J

I never noticed how pretty Jane Lynch’s eyes are.  Rather than have that dress in every color, I think she should have that color on every dress!

  • Really? No commentary on that ridiculous choker Wiig has on?  It ruined the dress.  Amber, you almost had it girl, that dress was making your body look great and then you had to put a bow on it.  Bows=fashion cop outs.  Leave them for the toddlers.

    • We accidentally edited out the last sentence about the choker. It’s back in.

      • Anonymous

        Good- it is all wrong!

      • Anonymous

Still no comment about the choker. I think we can guess what it would be, though.

    • I so agree. I *HATE* that choker.

      • Anonymous

        ruined an otherwise great dress.

        • Anonymous

          • Anonymous

Can’t imagine how anyone could choose a choker with that dress’s neckline. The neckline *is* a necklace.

      • Andrea Rossillon

I think if the choker had been holding the dress up– then it would’ve been a cool detail of the dress, rather than a piece of jewelry that was fighting for space on her neck.

    • Anonymous

The bow is so huge that I thought she was wearing something over the dress.

      • I hear you. This is the first time I can think of that Amber Riley didn’t get it exactly right. But, damn, she really blew it here.

    • Rand Ortega

      Well said.

    • Annie Leung

Completely agree about the choker, here’s hoping that they aren’t making a comeback.

      • I don’t mind chokers themselves, but never with a high neckline or a halter!

  • Anonymous

Diana Aragon would be great if not for the hair -why? why?
Jane Lynch FTW!!! Perfection! Julie Bowen is trying to soften her look this season but it swings to much the other way and doesn’t suit her.The next not Ms. Clooney looks great! Naya’s dress looks drab, but maybe it was better in person. The bow thing on Natalie Portman is too

    • Anonymous

There is something about that pic of Diana Aragon that makes her look like her head is on backwards.  It’s freaking me out!

  • Anonymous

I agree with all but Zoe Saldana. I don’t like that undershirt under the overlay on that gown, and the hip area looks weird too. Out, for a change.

  • Anonymous

I really didn’t like Tina Fey’s dress. It looked way pagenty to me. Also, WTF was Kristen Wiig’s necklace about? Totally ruined her outfit to me.

    • I wore a dress just like Tina’s to my junior homecoming 13 years ago.  Ugh.

  • I like that Tina decided to show some shoulder.

  • Anonymous

Amsale IS a bridal gown line. She is literally wearing a wedding dress.

  • Amber Heard looks like the bride of Frankenstein
Natalie Portman looks like she injured her back. Not sure I like the fit on her.
Kristen Wiig looks AWFUL to me. Hate her as a brunette. Hair looks messy. Hate the choker, dress is meh
Zoe Saldana – I mean, come ON! WERQ!
George and Stacy look pretty dang hot. Definitely best look so far.
I have to say, I didn’t mind this Meryl Streep get-up as much as others. Liked it. Good color.
    Juliana looks amazing
Jenna is on the worst dressed list for sure.

    • Anonymous

I kindasorta agree with you as far as Meryl’s dress goes. But the belt…dear God.

  • Anonymous

Clooney’s wrestling trophy does look good!

  • Katrina Bowden’s dress *IS* a bridal dress. Amsale is a exclusively a bridal designer, amirite?

    • Anonymous

Maybe she thought she would be getting married on the red carpet, officiated by Giuliana Rancic?

      • I thought that she and Marguiles were wearing the same dress.  I did not like either dress. Blah boo Blah!

  • Anonymous

I would love to know who styled these as well as the designers.  It would be interesting to keep track of  which stylists are successful and which aren’t.

  • I never comment, just love, but I can’t agree with Zoe Saldana shutting it down. She looks awful!

  • Naya is gorgeous but tea bag titties is never a good look at ANY age.

    • MilaXX

She should gotten those tape on bra thingy’s. It would have been just the thing to lift those puppies up where they belong.

  • Anonymous

So right Tlo!! Zoe dazzles! Now please go eat something darling.
And Miss Jane does look so great in that blue dress. Who knew that large pleats were for her??

    • Anonymous

I agree…I think the pleats really make it work.

  • No comment on Jenna U’s date?  He’s the best part of that picture!

    • Hello Michael Trevino! He cancels out the ugliness of her dress.

      • Anonymous

Is that who the eye candy is? I’ve never heard of him, but phwoar! I’ll be paying attention now.

  • Does Ellie Kemper have one regular boob and one enormous boob?!  Or am I the only one who sees it that way?

    • Anonymous

Looks that way to me too?  I thought it was my eyes deceiving me!  :>

  • One more thing… I REALLY hate the obvious “here’s a good shot of my clutch and jewelry” poses.

    • MilaXX

Stating the obvious, they are likely being paid to wear them. Then there are people like me who want to get good views of the accessories.

  • Anonymous

You are so right about Jane Lynch. She looks fantastic. But Zoe Saldana, she can do better (I realize she’s set a high standard).

And boys, now that all the generic dresses and the few standouts have been reviewed, how about your take on figure skating costumes? US Nats and Europeans just ended, and there was plenty to dissect. It would be a public service!

  • Tara Burkholder

REALLY? No comments on Kristin Wiig’s dog collar choker with a halter dress?  Tsk, tsk, boys, you disappoint.

  • Anonymous

Personal favorite is Natalie Portman’s dress. It is a beautiful and lush color that complements her skin tone perfectly. That dress is very elegant.

  • Jessica O’Connell

Ah I love these marathon RC posts :-D.

Agreed on all points but one – how in the heck could Naya have managed a bra there? Sometimes, you just gotta go without if you’re going to wear a certain kind of dress.

    • Anonymous

They make tape for this purpose.

  • I know Meryl is 62, but she doesn’t have to wear grandma’s hairstyle.

Dianna Agron looks fabulous if I ignore her feet. I kind of don’t like that big fluff of fabric on Natalie’s dress and Zoe’s dress has got too much going on IMO but she is WERQing the hell out of it. Girl knows how to pose on the RC.

  • Anonymous

Zoe Saldana is not shutting it down. Unless by “shutting it down” you mean “the future requests for crazy-beaded shawls over tank tops paired with shiny curtains from Liberace’s fantasy book”.

  • Anonymous

you know, the little handbag placement is starting to bug me.

  • Anonymous

So generic she could be modeling refrigerators on a ’50s game show…

I just showered my keyboard in Diet Coke. My nostrils are still fizzing!

  • Bree The Vole

OMG, Glee’s Tina is with Vampire Diaries’s Tyler!

In other words, Zoe Saldana is flawless and Natalie Portman looks great in that color.

  • Anonymous

Pity about Riley. Dress looks to be fab without the bow. Could have been a home run.

Overall, this is a much better batch of looks that the previous two SAG posts. Also, a few here have really improved on past efforts. Jane Lynch looks amazing in her gown! Tina Fey looks a lot better than usual.

Of course, we can always count on Zoe to shut it down.

  • Anonymous

Zoe – she looks like she threw chain mail on top of a tank top.  No!

Love Kristin Wiig’s dress, but how could she have thought the choker went with it?

  • Miss Jane needs to get her hands out of her pockets.  He hand is in one pocket in this picture, in another I saw today she had both her hands in her pockets.

Sew the pockets shut and it the best dress she has worn.

  • Anonymous

Must set aside my hatred of Marchesa for the mo, because Ms. Keibler looks sensational, and that is a beautiful dress.

Brava, Jane Lynch!  You look absolutely lovely!  Now, was that so hard?

The Kristen Wiig choker and Meryl Streep belt tie for the most ghastly accessories on the carpet.  Both of them spoiled what would otherwise have been perfectly acceptable looks.  Not gorgeous, but acceptable.

    Jenna U…tragic.

  • Anonymous

Poor Kristen looks like her head is sitting on a platter. Fire whoever put that dog collar on your neck!

  • Anonymous

I adore Meryl Streep. I’d pay to hear her read her grocery list. But who is giving her such bad fashion advice??? She looks like a small child playing dress up in daddy’s shirt and belt. Sigh.

  • Anonymous

Berenice Bejo looked much better on stage. These red carpet lights are awful.

  • Anonymous

Frankly, I think Jane Lynch has one of my favorite looks of the evening. That look isn’t about the dress dazzling, it’s about HER dazzling in the dress. She looks phenomenal!

  • Anonymous

Emilia Clarke, what Muppet are you wearing?

    • At least she clearly feels bad about Muppeticide – she looks very sad and faintly guilty.

  • Anonymous

I’ve been trying to get behind Zoe S’s look, the gown and the details look beautiful. But is she wearing a white wife-beater under it? That’s what it looks like!

  • Anonymous

TLo how could you not comment on Kristen Wiig’s choker??

  • Zoe’s dress is fug.

And I completely can not overlook the atrocious black choker Kristen Wiig decided to lace her pretty lil’ neck with. It dragged down her whole look.

  • Ellie Kemper…is something wrong in her bust area?

  • Cathy S

Lynch for the win. I didn’t think much of Zoe Saldana’s dress. Stacey Keibler looked very nice and I really liked Naya Rivera in that Naeem Khan.

  • Call it a win for the ladies of color on that carpet.  And throw Natalie Portman in there just for kicks.  Everyone else was bland and forgettable.

  • Wow, Jane Lynch, WERQ it!  Also, this proves what I always suspected about Zoe Saldana–it really doesn’t matter what she wears.  That dress is okay, but that girl can WERQ anything. And love you, Kristen, but WTF with that choker?

  • Judy_J

Miss Stacy looks dynamite in that black Marchesa gown.  Good hair, too.  But I disagree about Natalie Portman.  I really dislike that clump of fabric over her left breast.

  • Anonymous

I just wanted to say how educational these posts are. I recently bought a dress for my brother’s wedding. When I first tried it on, I knew there was something off. Thanks to TLo, I knew to look at the whole picture, not just the dress. I took my hair down and the dress went from “Something’s not right here” to “PERFECT!” Without this blog, I would have never found the perfect dress.

  • Is Jenna dating the hot werewolf from vampire diaries?

  • I think Naya Rivera looks amazingggg! good for her, thats what leah wishes she could look like. instead she just looks desperate, desperate is not hot.

  • Rand Ortega

Zoe makes me dizzy she’s so on it! Did you see the shoes? To. Die!

  • How is Natalie Portman surviving things without Galliano to dress her?

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Love everything about Dianna Agron’s look.  Natalie Portman is gorgeous.  And I think that is the best I have ever seen Tina Fey wear on the red carpet.  She looks fantastic!

  • OMG, Zoe is not my neighbor, thereby I can COVET that dress.  Doubt it would look the same on me, but it’s stunning.

  • OMG, Zoe is not my neighbor, thereby I can COVET that dress.  Doubt it would look the same on me, but it’s stunning.

  • Don’t care for her dress but who is Jenna Ushkowitz’s date? Hellooooooooo. Also, Naya totally blew Lea out of the water and you KNOW that has got to sting Ms. Michele.

    • Anonymous

Naya doesn’t have to TRY to be sexy. She just is. Lea tries too hard and it just comes off forced. You can see her thinking through her “posing sexy checklist” in her head. “Pouty lips, check. Squint the eyes, check. Hold the slit of the dress open, check. Thrust the leg out clear up to my hooha, CHECK!”

  • Call me Bee

It’s between Stacey Kiebler and Zoe FTW in this group.  I say it’s a tie.
IDK about Tina Fey–that is not her dress–emphasizes all the wrong things (read…hips.)  Meryl Streep–gotta love her!  She getting to be like Jessica Lange–she’s gonna wear whatever she wants and that’s it.  Love Jane Lynch here, too.

Thanks again, TLo, for making my Monday bearable…

  • Anonymous

Diana Agron FTW. Jane Lynch looks spectacular. I don’t know if it’s a trick of the light or bad foundation garments, but Ellie K looks like she’s sporting two different sized boobs. I disagree about Natalie. I think she is beautiful, but that protuberance looks like there’s an invisible string pulling her off stage.

  • Anonymous

Zoe and Stacy: FIGHT TO THE DEATH

It’s funny how some of these girls are trying to dress like Rooney Mara now. Sorry, you aren’t her.

    • Anonymous

Yes, that is exactly what I thought the second I saw Amber Heard’s dress!

  • Natalie Portman looks like she’s about to burst into tears…

  • I blame Rooney Mara for the cutout trend. But only she can make them work and look chic and effortless.

  • MilaXX

Amber Heard – Did not like this on her.Amber Riley – Shape is great, love the hair/mu, hate the ginormous bow
Berenice Bejo – Pretty but boring
    Angela Kinsey – Bland
Dianna Agron – Beautiful. Loved this on her.
Ellie Kemper – That matchy matchy prom makeup is not the business.Emilia Clarke – She looks like a dead swan.
Jane Lynch – Great fit and color on her.
Jenna Ushkowitz – Ugly dress and it makes her look like she has no waist.
Julianna Margulies – Looks like she went shopping at Klienfeild’s. Too bridal
Julie Bowen – Eh, didn’t like this on her. The back look like she was carrying a giant fuchsia backpack. Nice color though.
Katrina Bowden – Yet another bridal look
Kristen Wiig – I like the dress, but the choker is fighting with the neckline.
Maria Menounos – Dress looks too tight.
Meryl Streep – Put a hood on it and she’s Obi Wan Kanobi
Natalie Portman – Great color on her.
    Naya Rivera – Pretty
Stacy Keibler – She looks great. That’s taking good advantage of those long legs. George who?
Tina Fey  – Great fit but kinda soccer mom dressed up
Zoe Saldana – Lovely dress not sure I love the hair though.

  • Dianna Agron wins. Zoe comes in second.

  • Anonymous

Is ZOe wearing a wife beater under that?

  • Anonymous

Meryl’s dress is actually a Vivienne Westwood? Whodda thunk it? I wonder if it came with belt because that thing looks very JCP.

  • Anonymous

natalie portman is one classy lady

  • Presumptuous Insect

What the hell are those things on Julianna Marguilies’s dress?? The little round do-dads that you put on paper so it doesn’t tear in the three-ring binder?

Meryl needs to back to Chris march for some red-carpet dresses.

  • Anonymous

I think a big reason Natalie Portman is able to pull off what is a ridiculously simple dress is because of her posture.  She holds herself like the dancer she is–that carriage adds so much to her overall look.  She doesn’t look like she’s got a stick up her butt or anything, just aligned, confident, and erect.  All of the other women are slouching in the shoulders, have a hip out to one side, or are swayed in the lower back, to say nothing of the “I have to pee/crossed legs” pose that female celebs seem to have been taught from birth.  Take note, ladies.

    • Emilia has a fairly prominent role on Game of Thrones. No, she’s not an A-lister, but she’s on a pretty hot show–good publicity for Chanel.

  • Anonymous

I can’t stop staring at Meryl Streep’s inexplicable belt. I think it’s pleatherette.

  • Amber Riley’s hair is TERRIBLE. She looks like a completely different (much uglier!) person. She’s usually so gorgeous, but this is making my entire body hurt. I think the only thing that made me recognise her is that at least she’s still smiling (though how, I don’t know).

  • Anonymous

If Meryl pulled that belt down a few inches she could be an extra in Fiddler on the Roof. Oy Meryl, I love you with all my heart and being but your fashion choices are in need. Call Chris March again, you looked stunning in that white gown.

  • Anonymous

Loving Julie Bowen’s look. I’ve been so disappointed in the past, and this really was both a marked improvement and a gorgeous look on its own.

  • Anonymous

Stacy Keibler should burn all that Versace and buy more gowns in the silhouette of the Marchesa she’s wearing.  Diana Agron looks the best she has in some time.  Lovely color on her.

The sea of white/beige dresses on pale skin and blonde hair is just blah.  Why do women think it’s flattering?

  • I’ve gotta see Zoe from another angle, because from this one it looks like she was cut in half and badly photoshopped back together.  Truly strange optical illusion going on.

  • Anonymous

You underrate Berenice Bejo.  I love her dress – the fabric is exquisite.  Her necklace is better than perfect – a simple, feminine, bold, colorful, un-glitzy jewel drop that doesn’t compete with the dress and lands exactly where it’s supposed to.
There was effort put into that choice, and it should be rewarded.
On the down side: Her clutch is pretty, but dull, and her hair detracts.

  • Anonymous

Tina Fey looks horrible. I’m so sad about that. Natalie Portman? Talk about a sourpuss.

  • Anonymous

That dress makes Zoe Saldana look about 10 feet tall.

  • Anonymous

Natalie looks lovely, but dang she looks uncomfortable and I’m not digging the growth on her boob.

So happy to see Jane Lynch has found a dress that works for her. She looks great.

    Dianna A. looking quite beautiful.

Meryl looks like her usual hot mess. A cheap hot mess.

Scrolling down and seeing Zoe was a cool surprise. It’s simple but I think she looks freaking STUNNING.

  • Anonymous

Berenice Bejo’s pendant makes me twitch – I personally cannot stand anything touching the area right below the sternum.

Julianna Margulies has been whipping out a lot of boob-squishing looks lately, no?

  • I see nothing redeeming about Zoe Saldana’s dress…it’s not to my taste. Tacky, cheap looking bodice, especially, over a $10 H&M white tanktop…

Lovelovelove Tina Fey, Naya Rivera (don’t disagree with the need for a bra, but is it even possible with that deep of a neckline?), and Natalie Portman’s outfits. All very pretty. Also like the color on Ellie Kemper’s green sparkly number, though I think it’s doing weird things to her bust…anyone else see that?

  • Anonymous

I think Stacey Keibler as an accessory is kind of bringing George Clooney down.  He looks way better in photos by himself or with male co-stars.

  • Anonymous

Stacy Keibler looks incredible!! Nothing too unique about that dress, but it fits her perfectly and she really stands out

  • Anonymous

Zoe’s SHOULDN’T work, but good lord how it does.

Did a little gasp at Natalie’s when she came out on stage- incredible color.

Keibler’s best. Pretty much flawless, and girl knows how to pose that body, BAM!

    Wiig needs color, stat!!

  • Anonymous

Kristen Wiig’s  hair looked almost black on the show, which really went well with that dress, but who wears a collar with a collar neckline?

Maria Menounos looked better in that dress than Glen Close did.

Streep. when older ladies, who have grown larger, get self aware, they often gravitate towards the idea that, if well done, volume will hide their largeness. I suffer from this as well.

  • Anonymous

Uhhh is Zoe wearing a tank top under her dress? Do not like. Also, Natalie Portman looks pretty but also really stiff and uncomfortable

  • I love Tina Fey, and she looks generally great, though her dress appears to be falling off.

Who is the guy with Meryl Streep? Kinda looks like Alec Baldwin but it’s a funny angle so I can’t quite tell.

  • Anonymous

Zoe’s top looks too much like a wife beater with a sparkly overlay.  But at least it didn’t look bridal.  And I hated that distracting piece of fabric over Natalie’s left boob.

  • Anonymous

Miss Zoe* to close the show. Bravo!

    *and I don’t mean Rachel

  • I wish I could see Zoe Saldana’s dress from the front. I can’t really tell what’s going on with the waist.

Ellie Kemper = major titscrepancy. What is going on there?

Maria Menounos needs to go up a size or three, unless those wrinkles at the waist are supposed to be there?

  • Susan Crawford

Zoe – I bow and kiss your tootsies! Awesome. Meryl, would you please give Chris March a call before the Oscars? You never looked better than in the gown he did for you, honey. Jane Lynch, you KILLED! And note to George Clooney – you really should hang on to this one, ’cause she is awesome on your arm. SHE makes YOU look even better than you are!

  • marilyn

Re the cutout dresses (Amelia H. and Jenna U.) :  That cut is EXTREMELY difficult to wear.  Those cut outs will make the nicest figure look like a box.  If a girl is REALLY curvy and voluptuous, the cutouts make her look slutty.  I have not yet seen a woman who looked good in this type of dress.

  • Anonymous

I love “No complaints, but [complaint].”

  • Anonymous

Who is the side of beef with Ms Meryl?! Yow!

Jane Lynch looks fantastic. She’s stepped up her look lately and she’s certainly found her style.

    • Anonymous

I think he’s her agent. He usually goes with her to award shows when her husband doesn’t. I’ve noticed him in a lot of pics in the past.

  • Jane looks great! Rock on, girlfriend!

  • Jane Lynch, Zoe Saldana and — can it be true? — Stacy Keibler FTW. Stacy looks smokin’ hot. Wow.

  • Anonymous

Zoe Saldana always seems to look perfect, and this is no exception.

I love the color choices on Natalie and Dianna – Dianna was glowing.
Props to Tina – she looked very elegant.
Stacy was just drop dead stunning.
But my fave is Jane Lynch. The style suits her, her makeup is very flattering and her blue eyes just pop. I think Jane brought it.

  • While it’s not my favorite look (that would be Viola), Zoe is wearing the hell out of the dress.  Her hair, not so much.

  • I still don’t see the wow factor on Zoe Saldana.

Clooney’s beard looks incredible though. I agree, personal best for her.

Julie Bowen looks really good. I usually hate her red carpet get-ups, but this is a marked improvement, especially since the spotlight is taken away from her cleavage.
I don’t think Natalie Portman looks all that great, and her trademark grimace definitely isn’t helping.
Zoe Saldana and Dianna Agron were my favorite looks of the night.

Zoe Saldana, Stalking and Killing It.  The sisters shut it down for sure this year (Amber Riley apparently did not get the memo).  I’d like to think Michelle is having a big influence.

You guys are too obsessed with Zoe Saldana, I don’t think she looked that great at all

Even my husband gasped when he saw Meryl – the dress is so sad looking but she looks happy and comfortable, so that is probably what matters to her!

Looks like Amber is dropping some weight – but the bow did not do her any favors.

When I saw Kristen in the caudience I thought the choker was part of the dress – it really doesn’t work otherwise.

Until I got to Zoe, I would have said Jane Lynch for the win. Zoe looks stunning. (Jane looks great, too!)

  • Ok. I know this is not going to go over well. I love the Zoe S. but…it looked like she had a GAP tank top on under her dress. Sorry. It didn’t work for me.
And the barnacles on Julianna M’s dress also didn’t work. And I usually love her. And Calvin Klein. Not this time.
I loved Amber’s hair but not the dress.
Jane and Diana tie for the win. You are so right about Jane – one in every color indeed.

Zoe looks amazing. I was so meh about allll these dresses, was doing the full scrolldown and then BAM – Zoe. Amazing. Letting all these boring bitches know how to rock white without looking bridal.

  • Jane Lynch looks fab and I’m not even a fan of hers.  Portman looks like she’s either goosed, wedgied or constipated and the dress looks like it wants to escape the Mean Mommy who put her on.  Kiebler the Queen of the Amazons looks great and is helping that sweet old guy cross the street.  Fey and Saldana are indeed rocking it, so yay for them!

Hahahahahahaha!!! She is indeed helping him cross the street.

  • Connie Brandan Verzak

TLo, do you realize you’re commenting over and over on the same suit? Clooney has admitted he owns only one tux, and wears it over and over.

      And it’s still too big.

I appreciate where you’re coming from, and found this gem from 2008 in support:

But I don’t think that’s entirely true now — this photo is of a shawl-collar jacket, and the previous two TLo critiques (thanks search function!) were of notched-collar jackets. However, he still needs to get a tailor in his entourage.

    • Michael Trevino, an actor on the CW and maybe the hottest guy on his show. Way to go, Jenna!

Zoe Seldana looks gorgeous… and i have to agree personal best for Stacey Keibler!

  • Tom Shea

1)Jane Lynch. 2)Stacy Keibler. (Marrone, those stems) 3)Ellie Kemper.

I don’t understand how Stacey Keibler rates so high. I think that gown is super tacky – like something from a hooker’s cotillion. The fit is perfect but the shape and fabric just read trashy to me. Maybe it’s that fried hair she has going and the orange-brown skin? Can someone explain that fried-pieces-of-longer-hair-flying-in-the-breeze look to me?  It seems so utterly inappropriate for a formal occasion, or at least with a black evening gown. Awful.

“hard and severe’ – but then aren’t those the two words used to describe just about everything Julie Bowen does or looks like these days?

  • Anonymous

Curious: are you guys going solely off of these pictures, or did you watch the broadcast at all? I don’t particularly think you should watch said broadcast if you aren’t, it would just explain some differences of opinion. Namely: I thought Julianna Margulies’s dress was lilac, not white, which improved it immeasurably; and while Zoe Saldana looks great here in this pose, head on the dress was, um, a mysterious choice, to my eye. She pulled it off infinitely better than most humans would ever imagine, but grading on the Saldana curve? I can’t imagine she didn’t have better options that were also not boring.

Zoe is my best dressed of the night, hands down! This is how it’s done!

  • I thought of all sorts of comments as I was scrolling down, then Zoe happened, and now I’m mute

Jane Lynch looks WONDERFUL!!!!  How would that one chicklet have worn a bra with that plunging neckline?

  • Candice Richardson

Zoe Saldana for the mother effin WIN!

  • Best Jane Lynch has looked. Ever. Hands Down.

  • kimberlini

Jane Lynch:  Nice but I prefer the metallic sage halter version she wore at last year’s Emmys.

  • Anonymous

I love La Saldana something fierce, but this look leaves me cold. I think it’s that the fabric looks too stiff and a bit cheap.

  • Finally, Jane Lynch looks like she belongs on the red carpet.  Beautiful!  Arm-candy Stacy also looks wonderful, but Clooney is back to looking depressed.  Zoe Soldana?  I actually said, “Fuck!” out loud.  Hot shit, that girl is.  Natalie Portman is probably nursing.  She’s probably hoping she doesn’t leak through her dress, hence the boob ruffle.  And Angela from the Office only wears shades of grey and white.  Did you expect her to wear orange?  Orange is whoreish.  And Jane Lynch (yes again), I’m so proud.  Really.

  • Wait, Tina from Glee is dating Tyler from Vampire Diaries? Wow! Also, Jane looks soft and feminine in that shade of blue. For an Amazon.

I don’t live in a whole, I swear. I just don’t know who these so called red carpet stars. Put a patch on my heart to test for signals, I swear I only recognized 5 of the folks on this list.

A bra, really TAL? With a deep V-cut.
