Nicole Kidman in L.A.

Posted on January 27, 2012

Hi Nicole!

Nicole Kidman leaves Joan’s on Third in Los Angeles.

Look at you all smiley and glowing! Your blouse is a little on the precious side and that is some serious Mrs. Urban country-western hair going on up top, but overall, we think you look pretty cute and chic here. Let’s talk about your tote:

 Salvatore Ferragamo Leather Tote Bag

A chic classic, we say. But Nicole, it’s not about us this time. Brace yourself dear, because not only are the commenters revolting, but they’re also getting a chance to have their say.

Oooooh Yes please!  A nice chocolatey brown though for preference

    • Anonymous

      As a tote…yea.  As a purse…nay.

      • Anonymous

Much clearer version of what I was going to say. I refuse to carry this shit until I have children who are obsessed with figure skating or somesuch bulky thing.

    • Sobaika Mirza

YES! It looks very luxe and great for everyday use.

    • Anonymous

Love the bag, but does she have a brick in it?

    • Anonymous

It’s a nice bag, but not one I would use.  I can’t stand totes, and gotta have something that closes across the top.  Unlike Ms. Urban, I don’t have private security to watch me all the time. :)

    • Brian @ PWYJudges

A total YAY! Love the gold detailing.

    • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

YES! as a tote.  I can’t even deal with an oversized purse…what the hell do you need?   She could have stuffed that leather jacket in there with room leftover.

    • Judy S

I am not revolting. Unless you are really easily revolted. But anyway, I agree, classic and functional–yea, yea, yea.

    • MilaXX

Hell yea! I want that bag.

    • Urban Gypsy aka Tess

Wow. $1950 for that bag, I need to find the Ferragamo bags someone gave me a hundred years ago. They may or may not have fallen off a truck, but my memory is notoriously lousy.

    • Kati Irons

Meh. Maybe I’d like it better in another color.

      • Anonymous

Right. That color might work for Mz Redhead Kidman, but for this Black Irish lady, I need COLOR!
        But for her? In.

    • Anonymous

      yea yea yea…

    • Anonymous

Not for me, but definitely a classy bag. I have always loved her (she is perhaps the irrational love counterpart to my irrational Scarlett Johannsen hate). and it’s nice to see her looking so happy. Yea, on someone else’s arm.

    • Anonymous

      Yeah, that’s a great tote.

    • Emily Smith

I want this bag.  Right now.

When I was in 7th grade, one day Mary, the girl in my group who got teased the most (I was 2nd in line) got fed up with the rest of us and said, “I’m revolting!”  I just smiled.

    • Michelle Nguyen

The piping on the side should be that darker tan. Then it’d be perfect.

      • Anonymous

        I completely agree with you.

    • Anonymous

Yea, I am not a fan of big handbags personally, but this is nice, elegant & simple (which is my style)

    • Anonymous

I LIKE her hair with more volume…country hair or not.  She usually wears it so over flat ironed, it makes her look harsh.

    • Anonymous

When you have small kids, purse-totes are almost required.

    • Fifi LaRoux

      YES! I love big purses!

    • taodon

This is actually a photo from the set where she plays a suburban Texan mother who has decided to kill her daughter’s cheerleading rival and lesbian lover… Right?

    • Anonymous

      Yes please.

    • Rachel S.

Her pants are so shiny!! I like. The bag is my favorite part of the outfit though. *drool*

    • Anonymous

I like this but the color is a bit too blah for me. Maybe a little deeper, richer color or maybe even something more vivid and I’d be all over it. Very chic and luxe.

    • Anonymous

she’s working some serious loretta! love the bag!

    • VicksieDo

Mostly I love her slacks, they’re really flattering.

      • Sara L.

Yep, I want those slacks. And her figure to fit in them.

    • Anonymous

I must be an incredibly bitchy and bitter kitten today, because all I can see is an enormous amount of money and a month’s mortgage. Usually such things don’t bug me, so it must not be pretty enough for me to overlook the price. Therefore, nay.

      • Anonymous

Funny, I love to look at clothes, but when I think of the amount wealthy people pay for them, I choke. I have friends who worked hard all their lives and may lose their homes now. Not Kidman’s fault, just the fault of society that prizes people who can act and sports figures.

        • Anonymous

          Totally agree with this edit:

“*conventionally attractive* people who can act”

    •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Hate the hair, hate the blouse and tote looks better displayed than carried.  Not a fan!

    • Anonymous

      Yea for her
Owwww for my left shoulder. I couldn’t carry a bag that big except to to go away for the weekend.

    • Anonymous

Nay. It’s too old-lady-styles. In fact, her hair, blouse, pants, shoes are all old-lady-styles. Alexander Wang has a similar tote but it’s much more youthful (and cheaper).

      • Anonymous

Neigh. But no one over the age of 10 ought to wear that blouse, let along an old lady.
Tote does nuthin for me, looks like pleather. Boring.

    • Anonymous

      Yea- it’s a classy tote

    • Anonymous

OUT. It is too big for what she is using it for.

    • Anonymous

It’s not terrible, but it’s not for me.

      Nicole:  Nice pants, bad blouse.

Bag:  Lovely bag, ridiculous price tag.  If I had an extra $2000 lying around, I’d be on a plane to Paris or Rome or Buenos Aires.

      • accidental housewife

I’d be on the same plane, and I’d be carrying my wonderful one-of-a-kind tote/handbag made by a friend of mine. I don’t know how much it cost, because it was a present from my husband, but I guarantee it’s not even in the vicinity of $2000.

    • Anonymous

The color shown here is too drab for me.  I loathe taupe and other grey-brown shades until you get much darker, like espresso-y hues.  I do like the shape and details.  I have no need for a tote like this, because it looks like the weight of the bag, when added to the contents, would be rough on my middle-aged shoulders.  So I’ll bow to the fashion of the time and give it a Yea.  But I’m not giving exclamation points.

    • Anonymous

      That’s not a purse; it’s luggage.

Luggage so big, it won’t fit under the seat in front of you. The stewardess will make you stow that thing in the overhead bin.

      • Anonymous

Right.  If I tried to carry that on my short frame the bag would be sitting on the ground.  It looks huge on Nicole who is probably over 6′ in those heels.  I’m praying for the return of smaller bags.

      • Anonymous

        Well, it LOOKs large. The Ferragamo link claims it’s 12.5″ x 12.5″ x 6.5″

    • Susan Crawford

As a lifelong tote bag addict, I’m ready to include this one in my collection. Might go for it in a deeper brown or even a white for summer. YEA to the tote!

Nicole does look good, doesn’t she? I love the pants and think she looks so much better with that touseled hair than with some of the more severe styles she has worn. The blouse is a little too much for me – never been much for a ruffly bib-front. And with those pants, a great Lauren Bacall-ish camp shirt in a heavy rayon that would drape and flow a little would be spectacular.

    • Democracy Diva

Nay on Nicole, yay on the purse.

    • Anonymous

You tackle her, I’ll grab the bag and run.

I love totes, and I carry my laptop in them when I travel. They do double duty as a laptop carrier and day bag that way. YEA

    • Sara__B

Yea to the bag. If I had need of a tote bag, I’d love to have one as understated, elegant, and beautifully made as this one.
Nay to her hairstyle. Big on top, thin and stringy on the bottom. She could use a haircut.

    • Katie Sypher

      Oops. Yea!

    • Anonymous

YEA but unfortunately I will have to settle for a knockoff.

    • Anonymous

Nay.  Everything you carry is lumped in the bottom in these kinds of bags.  Makes an unorganized mess.  Altho’, Ms. Kidman probably hires an Anti Mess Assistant who can sort it all out for her.

    • aimee_parrott

I’d prefer it in a different color, but YEA.  it’s a nice-looking bag.  I hate that blouse of hers, though.

    • Anonymous

Eh, not impressed.  I agree, a color would help a lot.

    • Anonymous

It’s OK, no nicer or worse than bags I can get at TJ Maxx for $89. If you want to see a bag that is designed, check out Sophie Dilgard’s crocheted bags!! Wowza!!

And that blouse – I hate when you can see skin through blouses. Seems tacky. But it is nice to see her smiling and so relaxed looking. She usually looks wound up tight as a string!!

    • Cassie

Is she pregnant? Because that’s the only way I will accept that blouse and those pants. It is nice to see her smiling for a change, though.

The bag is nice enough, but it’s just too gigantic. It looks luggage-like on Nicole, who is like eleven feet tall, so I can’t imagine how ridiculous it would look on a woman of average height.

    • Anonymous

I love Joans on Third. I almost always stop there for snacks and a cupcake when I pass through Hell-A

    • Jennifer Alderman

Love the bag! Also, her hair is so big because it’s full of secrets.

    • Anonymous

It’s large, it’s leather, it’s of subdued pattern and does not shout its maker’s name. I also like the one zip & 2 open compartments construction. (Exactly what my current bag has) The handles are long enough that one could sling it over a shoulder if one had to.

If it had those little metal buttons/feet on the bottom (I can’t tell) so that one could imagine that one was protecting 2K worth of leather from whatever is actually on the floor, I’d say it was the perfect tote.

Not my most favorite color ever, but that I’ll forgive if someone kindly gifts me with one.

    • Anonymous

      i think YEA!

    • Lauren Maier

Can one say “eh” in a “yea” or “nay” post?  It’s very luxe and nice but it’d not what I’d want on my arm.  But still, it is lovely, so YEA.

Thank god we’re voting on the tote, it looks like she’s got a bib on her blouse.

    • foodycatAlicia

OH GOD. I totally forgot about Nicole Kidman when I was thinking about my celebrity hate list. I dislike her even more than Cameron Diaz! Nice bag though.

    • Anonymous

love the tote, hate the blouse.  Although I must say that a similarly-cut blouse looks just as terrible on me, so now I know for sure:  it’s not the body, it’s the blouse!  If Nicole can’t look good in it, it is just not a good look for probably just about anybody.

    • Anonymous

does she have kids? totes to me are just really nice diaper bags.

    • Anonymous

does she have kids? totes to me are just really nice diaper bags.

    • Anonymous

YEA but my version would end up weighing 30 lbs and would ultimately dislocate a shoulder or wrist. But I would look great!

      • Anonymous

It makes NO sense to carry a big bag & not use it to carry all that stuff which makes a 10-16 hour day away from home do-able. Reading material, work, snacks, in a pinch water bottle and/or coffee travel mug, laptop on occasion . . .

I’m old enough that I’m sure I’ll be adopting the little wheeled case with the collapsible handle, soon – but so far the body holds up and until that changes I’m sticking with the suitcase purse.

Besides, someday I may be able to knock the cr#p out of somebody with it, just like in the cartoons!

    • Dina dV

FOOL!  Never wear pants like that to Joan’s.  You’ll just bust a button after eating all their delicious cupcakes.  Or maybe that’s just me.

I think she’s gorgeous and I’m glad she’s back to red hair, but color would have worked a little better.  Gray and white on such a pale woman just makes her look like a hologram.

    • Call me Bee

Yea–a thousand times yea.  I realy like her trousers here, too.  A chic city look.

    • accidental housewife

Love the pants, hate the blouse, like the tote, but not in that awful putty color and not at that price. I can’t decide on her hair. It’s messy, but I like messy hair. Someone above said Nicole needs a haircut. I think that’s the problem. If this were an IN or OUT post, I’d give her an IN.

    • Anonymous

I’m hurt that you find us revolting. I think we’re all very nice and interesting people.

       I kid, I kid!

Nay on the bag. Looks like pleather.

    • Anonymous

meh. for $1950 I need to be more impressed.

    • butter nut

ferragamo bags are always such perfection.

    • marilyn

Beautiful bag-In. Her-Out..  She should have dressed up more to go shopping.  The hair and blouse are country.  The bag is chic Italian.  I do not like thetrend of those fashion types to wear white blouses with whatever.  The blouses are not tucked in, and I assume it is to cover up a protruding tummy.  Martha Stewart and Ina Garten wear these blouses because they are trying to be casual, and are doing things in the kitchen.   Rosie O’DOnnell wears them too.  I assume she is just not very inerested in clothes in general.  During the ’60’s the white blouse was part of every school girl’s wardrobe, particularly the ones who had to wear school uniforms.   If Nikky is pregnant again, then this is fine. If she is not, then she might try to dress up a little more when she goes out for errands because people (like us) are watching her.

By the way, that blouse with ruffles would have been considered dressy.  I don’t know what it is now.

      • foodycatAlicia

And that, right there, is why I am so glad that I am never likely to be in the public eye! I feel like anyone who puts on heels has already made above and beyond effort for going shopping.

    • Anonymous

Nay. I’ve seen smaller luggage. Also, hideous blouse — I had the same one in 7th grade.

    • Anonymous
    • Paula Pertile

The bowling shoes must be in the bag.

    • Anonymous

Diaper bags now come in Silly Putty?  Who knew.

    • Joyce VG

      YEA HOT!

    • Pamela

      Triple YEA!  Gorge!

    • Anonymous

As a design, I guess it’s OK, although it doesn’t strike me as innovative or even notable.  I’d never use anything like that, it’s too big.  Someone with little ruffles on her cotton blouse should carry something smaller, methinks.

    • VicD

Tote is fantastic!  Trousers look good.  Her hair looks better than it has in ages.  But WHAT IS UP with that blouse?!

    • Noelle Haland

Yay on the tote, nay on the blouse (not that you asked!).

    • Anonymous

Yea on the tote; nay on the color.

As for the blouse, aren’t you supposed to wear the dickie under the shirt?

    • Anonymous

YEA on the tote, NAY on Nicole’s hair and blouse and shoes

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

Meh. Not doing it for me but then again, there is certainly nothing repulsive about it. I’ll say ‘NAY’ and save my ‘yeas’ for another time and a more enthusiastic endorsement.

    • Anonymous

Pants look great.  Bag looks very good.  Don’t like the blouse with them

    • Anonymous

Yea.  Nice to see a grownup wearing slacks – so tired of jeans.

    • Robert Sanchez

This is downright simple for her. The blouse is a little cutesy, but not egregiously so. For a simple day of running around on errands, or whatever it is impossibly rich movie stars do all day, she looks nice.

    • Praggya R. Barretto

    • Anonymous

Nay. A silly putty bag IMHO.

    • Brian G. Cox

It’s Joan’s on Third. Everyone picks up some take-away bakery item, and the bag is perfect for carrying all that.

    • Anonymous

      YEA!!!  So classic and lovely.

    • Anonymous

      Yea! I want one

    • Anonymous

      Ooh! Yay! Very yay!

    • Anonymous

    • Anonymous

YEA of course!  Is there any question?

    • Emily

      Yea.  It’s awesome.

    • Anonymous

The bag is lovely, everything else gets a big thumbs down.

    • Anonymous

Yea – if I could afford it. So… nay.

    • Anonymous

I want twelve of them in every color imaginable. LOVE.

    • Veronika Kaufman

the bag is fine. Has anyone seen the shoes?

    • kimberlini

GREAT bag….I noticed it right away.  You can see just how awful the rest of the outfit is in the photos where you can’t really see the bag. And I think the pants are too tight.

    • Anonymous

Yeah, although I agree that the color’s not my personal favorite.  I like the clean simplicity of the bag.

    • Anne Rinaldi

Yea on all but the blouse. It looks a bit like she’s wearing a bib. I would have like it better if it was either the bib or the ruffles, but not both.

    • Anonymous

      Big YEA!

    • Dawn Grimes Stough

    • Anonymous

      yea yea yea!

    • marlie

LOVE the purse! I’d love the look too, if the hair were less pouf-y.

    • Anonymous

Eew, I don’t like this look!  She has no reason to trick out all corporate-like!  It’s like she left her jacket in the car while she runs into the Piggly Wiggly after work.  This look is no-fun.

    • Vera

      Love it.
