Kate Bosworth in Antonio Berardi

Posted on January 24, 2012

Kate, we just want to salute you for your deviousness.

Kate Bosworth attends the ‘Black Rock’ premiere during the 2012 Sundance Film Festival in an Antonio Berardi dress paired with Casadei pumps.

Antonio Berardi Spring 2012 Collection/Model: Pauline van der Cruysse

Because these pictures had us scrambling to find your birthdate and somehow you got the entire internet to believe you’re 29 years old. That’s amazing, dear. How ever did you manage to get everyone from Wikipedia to IMDB to shave those extra 30 years off your age?

She’s one of those stars who’ve worked very hard to cultivate a Fashion-with-a-capital-F persona. Which is great, because not many stars in their 20s make the effort. But she seems to have looked to elderly New York society matrons for her inspiration because whenever we see her dressed up, she always looks like she’s decades older than she is, even though her skin is perfectly smooth and her body perfectly perky. This is what poor styling does. It takes a great, eye-catching dress like this, and, through the magic of severe hairstyles and rather standard accessorizing, she winds up looking quite harsh.

To be fair, we’re not sure that’s her dress, but we think the look could be improved for her. Blow out that hair, tone down those lips, change out those shoes for something a little trendier, try some more dramatic eye makeup,  and for Oprah’s sake, put on some damn jewelry. Honestly, must we do EVERYTHING for you people?

I don’t mind the lips, but I think she needs to have her hair out &  curly and she should be wearing a younger shoe.

    • Anonymous

She must think she’s mitigating the matron look with that damned irritating pigeon toed little girl pose.  Love the model’s shoes.

      • Anonymous

I HATE that pigeon-toed pose. If my mother were standing next to her, she would pinch her and tell her to suck in her tummy and stand like a lady.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

That’d be such a great Chinese New Year dress but I think the shoes need to be black and she needs to rethink the hair and makeup and needs to look into earrings.

      • Anonymous

That hairstyle is REALLY not her friend.

        • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

And yet she seems devoted to it. I’ve never even thought about Kate Bosworth’s ears but now I am just seeing them sticking out. Softer hair would be so much more flattering. Maybe even a shorter hair cut?

          • Anonymous

The severely slicked back style is awfully unflattering and yet she refuses to give it up. Do mirrors not exist in her home?

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

I know, right? Whenever I see her, I am amazed how old she appears (not looks). It’s insane. She looks much younger here, but still too severe. Get help, Kate! I fear your career depends on it.

    • Anonymous

I like this dress but sweet Jesus, it looks awful on her!  The first thing I could see and not unsee is her abdomen.  Is hse expecting? Is she auditioning for a starvation victim dressed in couture?  Seriously, that looks all kinds of scary.  She could blow out her hair all she wants, that midsection issue isn’t going away and I can’t even figure out what is going on!

      • Anonymous

That was my first thought too! I googled and saw nothing about her being pregs.

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I think it’s her posture – her heels are too high so her bum is tilted up and it’s pushing her belly forward and out.

        • Anonymous

YIKES!  Hopefully, she will see these and think to herself “Self?  Stand up straight!”

      • Anonymous

My thought wasn’t pregnant but it looks like she has one of those freakish large benign abdominal growths you read about, “Woman has 20 lb tumor removed after 6 hour surgery: Weight of Tumor forced her to stand pigeon toed”

When a dress makes gives the appearance of a growth and the plea to seek medical help … its not your dress.

        • Anonymous

I’m thinking that dress would be fab on Nicole Kidman though.  Yes, another quite thin woman but one with fantastic posture and the ablilty to wear a fitted dress really, really well.

          • Anonymous

I think you’re right about that. Nicole K. would look pretty amazing in this.

      • http://twitter.com/ryenerman rynerman

I also think she really needed to go up a size – there’s attractively clingy and way too clingy and this is the latter making her look like she has a pooch when it’s just not possible.

      • Denny Li

When I read the T&L’s lead in and saw her photo, I thought she was wearing a fake deformed/alien fetus baby bump to call attention to the press’s relentless focus on the pregnancy status of female stars.

    • Anonymous

No, that’s not her dress; but it’s also not her hairstyle.

    • Anonymous

    • lilibetp

Yeah, orange shoes and lips with a red dress?  I’ve kind of glanced through the comments and it sounds like we’re all saying the same thing:  It needs earrings, more eyeshadow, lighter lipstick, and younger shoes – maybe black?

    • lilibetp

I don’t know. . . on my monitor the lips look almost exactly the same color as the dress, and the shoes don’t look orange, either; just a different red. The model has red lips and shoes, but somehow it all works better.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

I love the red lips and the hair (and her skin looks flawless!), but I think they would look better with a dress that was less severe, like a white shift or sundress.  I agree that this dress called for loose hair and toned down makeup.

    • http://twitter.com/RzYoung RzYoung

The model looks fierce, the Bosworth looks ‘bleh’

    • Anonymous

There’s so much wrong here. The pigeon toed stance in the equally disturbing pointy toed shoes. The slicked back hair (next thing you know she’ll be belting out “Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina”) revealing (TLo nailed it) society matron gauntness. The Save The Children posture in the first picture. Nice enough dress, though.

      • Anonymous

I couldn’t agree more. Well said.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=811053804 Stacy Parker Cole

This is one of those situations where she should have got the runway shoes.  Those are FIERCE! Love ‘em.  Yeah. The abdomen is really odd looking and the hair is meh.

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

She’s in desperate need of Spanx.

But what bothers me most are the jewels encircling her nipples. I look at her front and only see a Foo dog. Happy Chinese new year!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Did she stuff her dress to make us think she was “normal” with a little belly?  Something very odd is going on around her midsection.  I’m sure it has a lot to do with that ridiculous pose. And for all the red heels on the market, she chose the ones that looks like they came out of Newport News catalog.  Dear, Stuart Weitzman red quasar would have fixed you right up.

      • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

Yeah, she’s awfully lumpy. I’m not convinced either she has a tummy, it just may be some awkward bunching. Odd…

        • Anonymous

Seriously?  I thought she was pregnant.  Because she LOOKS pregnant, and that is a bad pregnancy look!

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

It looks more like a hernia to me…. to lumpy and off-center to be a fetus.

      • Anonymous

That pose is a total WTF?????? Horrible!  Almost as if she was trying to make herself look as unattractive as possible with the pushed out stomach, pigeon toes and staring down the photographer with that weird expression on her face. Did she lose a bet? I just don’t understand how someone who won the genetic crapshot in life and with all the resources at her disposal gets a photo taken like that?

        • Anonymous

She’ll learn when she sees it (horrified). Or maybe she did lose a bet.:))

    • aimee_parrott

Yes, she looks thirty years older and like she’s from another planet.  This look is WEIRD.

    • Anonymous

Something has gone horribly, horribly wrong with the fit of this dress. I’m wondering if aliens are involved? That’s the best explanation I can come up with because no stylist can hate someone that much, can they?

    • Anonymous

The dress is tight enough for me to see her underwear.

This beautiful dress deserves better and so does Kate.

    • http://twitter.com/taijuuuh Taija HU!

Call me crazy, but I would love to see this dress on dear Cathy Cambridge. That would be phenomenal.

      • Anonymous

Oh yes, that would be good.

    • victoria rodeno

She is sooo skinny that she cannot grow real hair anymore.

    • Anonymous

That is a killer dress (if a bit too tight) and I don’t even mind the shoes…it’s all about that awful slickered down hair. That hair is hardly ever a good idea and when will stylists get that?

    • Anonymous

Oh, look! Her little elf ears are standing out.

      No wonder Legolas dated her.

    • Anonymous

Funny, I just referenced NY society matron in the Diaz post. Must be something in the ether today…

I agree with you on Bosworth.I like the dress, but i think different shoes and hair style would have helped her tremendously here.

    • Anonymous

I actually like the dress and it could easily have been age-appropriate with looser hair and different shoes.  And for GOD’S SAKE!  Matchy matchy with the red lips and shoes is bad enough, do the reds have to CLASH?  Dear heavens.

    • Anonymous

Something really bizarre is going on with her stomach.  It looks like she’s smuggling snacks or something.  Probably a product of the stupid stance she’s in…I would be embarrassed seeing these pictures if it were me.

    • CQAussie

She looks awful.  And those shoes are wrong for the dress.  Her hair is so tight it’s giving ME a headache.

    • Anonymous

Honestly, a severe hairstyle will never be her friend.

And I think we’ve just found the dress that clings-with-a-C even on someone as thin as her.

    • Anonymous

Just the current phase of KB’s identity crisis/voyage of self-discovery:  I’ve Put Away Childish Things.

See:  smaller roles in serious smaller films (subset of hanging with the Polish/Duplass crowd); internet business sensation (jewelry-of-the-month club for, I dunno, celebrity-branding-minded teens?); and the piece de resistance, throwing over her sex-kitten-but-“brainy” persona with ASkars for soulmate relationship with genius director Michael Polish (suitably grown up, one assumes, at 41).

Makes perfect sense that her Voguette style should skew toward the middle-aged.

We should just be thankful she’s lost most of the Mid-Atlantic Madge-y accent she affected for a while and that she’s eased up on flogging the Princeton acceptance letter she received over a decade ago.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

For me, that style of pointy-toed shoe will forever be associated with old ladies. I refuse to wear them.

    • Anonymous

I never think of Kate Bosworth as busty or curvy but she is too busty/curvy for that dress.  The swirls look odd on her chest but much better on the model who seems to have a smaller bust or perhaps the dress is just looser on her.  Then, as others have noted, there is the weirdness in the midsection.  This dress does not fit her right.    Add in the super severe styling and she looks bad (which is actually is pretty hard to do).

    • Jessica Goldstein

The hair and makeup are SO harsh here that the effect is not “look at my young, flawless face” but instead “I’m 60 and have had too many procedures done”. Very, very unflattering….

    • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

Her shoes and lipstick match the wall!

    • Aly Light

I think she looks fantastic. I had to read this whole article twice, because I thought you were saying this dress makes her look twenty years younger than her age.

    • Anonymous

      You’re nuts! Girl looks fierce!

    • Anonymous

And maybe try a size that fits? This dress is doing awful things to her stomach, and I doubt she can walk naturally (of course, she can’t anyway, in those shoes, but restriction at the knees doesn’t help).

    • Anonymous

      Wrong shoes, wrong posture.

And I do not share the love for that dress.  Why are there targets on her boobs?

    • Anonymous

      when is she due?

      ;)

    • Anonymous

I still remember her back from her Blue Crush days…she was so toned and athletic (also very fresh and young looking).  I don’t think this WASPy look is doing her any favors.

      • Anonymous

She was quite adorable in Win a Date with Tad Hamilton as well.

    • Anonymous

I just can’t respect her on account of her failure to lock up A-skars. next.

    • Anonymous

The old-fashioned red-on-red-on-red action is not doing her any favors, but I think it’s also whatever’s happening in her abdominal area there. It’s strangely reminiscent of very elderly women who’ve lost a lot of weight due to extreme age. Maybe it’s standing pigeon-toed in high heels that’s doing it? Anyway, fab dress, but not a good look.

    • http://twitter.com/Athenabast Athena Bast

does she have hip dysplasia or something?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_U5LTVYHX32MGMMXR33G7TOXVR4 Magdalena Monzerrat Ontiveros

She needs spandex, that’s what she needs!!

    • Anonymous

She always reminds me of Jessica Tandy during her “Driving Miss Daisy” years.

    • http://twitter.com/Bookmanfilm Mike dobbins

She looks like Tippi Hedren  – if Tippi were playing a malnourished nobody with a hideous midsection problem.
      Grim.

    • Anonymous

You might also suggest she go up one size in the dress.  It’s too damned tight.

    • R. L.

Please get some Spanx or wrap yourself in Saran Kate!

    • Anonymous

Who is she? I get the Kate’s mixed up. LOL she looks like she’s got a little pot belly in that first picture or is that just her jutting hip bone?

    • Anonymous

What the hell is she smuggling under that dress? It’s too high to be hip protrusion, and it’s not even or rounded enough to be her belly.

    • Anonymous

Oh, she doesn’t appear old, just stylish. Severe women are wonderful as they “cater” to less men. Why is good style so bitched about? Should she look like the Olsen twins, i.e. “there was too much wind…hence the hair”?

      • Anonymous

Yes, we just can’t abide good style around these parts. That must be the explanation.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

She should have worn better foundation garments too. Something funky is going on around the panty-line area.

    • Anonymous

she looks knock kneed and knocked up!

    • Anonymous

I’m not sure I’ve ever actually seen her in anything other than a photo, but every time her name crops up, I think “alien life form.” Like these photos, for instance.

    • Anonymous

Really? I don’t think she looks old at all. A bit severe, sure, but her skin looks flawless.

    • Anonymous

      Whut.The……….!!!!!!!!!

    • Anonymous

So many clashing reds. SO MANY CLASHING REDS.

It’s nice that the shoes aren’t black, but dyed-to-match isn’t exactly an improvement. Especially when they don’t actually match.

    • http://angryfemur.tumblr.com Andrea Lane

Sweet Jesus on a breadstick, I covet that dress with every bone in my body.

You’re right, it’s not the dress for her. I claim it.

    • Sophie Collier

I’m in the minority here who think she looks fine, but her expression seems to hover on the edge of “duck face.”

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jane-Morris/1076502799 Jane Morris

How can someone that skinny have a poofying belly?  The eye goes right there and stays.  There is a scientific explanation for this.  The human brain is hard wired to notice anything out of the ordinary or expected as that may save your life if you are a caveman or live in a big city.  That’s why people gape an accidents. They’re hard wired to do so.

It’s not always life saving, though, as evidenced by gaper’s blocks and her belly.

    • Anonymous

I always call her Lips Mahoney. As in, “Oh my heavens, here’s Lips Mahoney again with one of her scraped hair and high fashion starvation looks!”

    • Susan Crawford

A softer, more face-framing hairstyle; different shoes; spanx light-control for the little tummy pooch; and for God’s sake, get her a tube of lipstick that does not resemble a clown’s wig color! She is such a pretty young woman, but this picture makes her look hard, desperate and in the grips of a malicious stylist with a Joan Crawford fixation – and not in a GOOD way!

    • Anonymous

      1. pull back shoulders…wayyy back…2 stick out butt….wayyyy wayyyy out….3 purse lips–think fierce…OK I,m ready!

      all very natural you see

    • oohsparkley!

Maybe her spanx/slip has bunched up (which she doesn’t need).  Her dress is too tight.  Her expression makes her look like an elderly plastic surgery victim.  She doesn’t need to suck her cheeks in either, makes her look sour.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

hate the lips, but love the dress.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I would add go up a size and lose the witchy-toe shoes.

    • http://CallMeJane.com/ CallMeJane

      Yeah…. that’s a Nancy Reagan dress.

    • Anonymous

i can’t with that tummy.  she weighs like 90lbs tops and is doing EVERYTHING in her power to show some kind of gut.  why?!?!

    • Anonymous

I can’t add anything except the fact that I would love to see how Helen Mirren would look in this dress.

    • Anonymous

Note to stylists everywhere, only a select few humans can pull off an uber tight ponytail.

    • Mary McClelland

Uck – those shoes are like straight up 1987. They are horrible. Why?! I can’t get them out of my head! Soooo pointy and frightful!

    • Anonymous

Gawd, her hip bones frighten me & she needs to step away from the Botox.

    • http://www.facebook.com/samuel.j.donovan Samuel Joesph Donovan

I think her hair is great with the dress.

    • Anonymous

that lipstick is horrendous. The dress is too tight – matronly slut

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GFMOZFM3WT3T56EZHVZFK7UXSI Ramon

If her hair were black, she could be in a remake of “Flash Gordon” as a henchwoman to Ming the Merciless.

    • http://twitter.com/carelessriver Cassie (C.M.W.)

      Wait, she’s not pregnant?

    • Anonymous

      …and go up a size

And to think ASkars used to hit that mess.
