Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera

Posted on January 27, 2012

We just have to give her an “attagirl” for this one.

Emmy Rossum makes an appearance on Live With Kelly in a Carolina Herrera dress paired with Carla Amorim earrings, an Ippolita bangle and Christian Louboutin sandals.

You can’t really see it that well in the screencaps, but Emmy made sure the world got a good look:

What a chic, colorful, and – dare we say it? – ladylike little getup.  No cooch-flashing on national TV for this gal! Lea Michele would probably break out in hives if she had to wear this.  But see, Lea? You can do ladylike without looking like an old lady.

Love. I have a feeling I’d like the color pallet a bit more in person -the yellow straps seem harsh. Perfect styling too. She looks ready for spring!

  • Sobaika Mirza

So chic! That’s a great color combination.

  • http://twitter.com/RzYoung RzYoung

i dunno, i like it but it looks like it could be made in a half hour

    • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

I’m a fairly accomplished seamstress, and I would cut a bitch to be able to put something like this together in half an hour!  The seaming and fitting is what makes this look so effortlessly chic…but it also takes time to do well.

        Love hearing input like that.

    • Anonymous

I’m NO seamstress, but as a clothes-wearer I reckon the correct, easy, flattering fit is the hardest think to pull off.

  • Anonymous

So cute! But so summery, especially noticeable bc Kelly for once is dressed for the winter (she seems to wear sundresses w/bare legs and sandals all year round).

    • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

This whole winter seems to be made up of summer dresses, both casual and fancy. I can’t remember a year with so few sleeves on the celebs. And black tights don’t make an outfit wintery, especially if the top is almost bare.

Perfection! Who knew plaid could look so chic?

    • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I know, right? I despise plaid, but for some reason, the top of the dress isn’t making me break out in hives.

Love the dress. Love her. LOVELOVELOVE Shameless

    • Anonymous

AMEN!!! I never had feelings one way or another about her until that show. She AND Shameless are fab. And don’t even get me started on William H. Macy. LOVES.

  • Anonymous

Think it needs a darker shoe maybe to balance the bold color combo.

  • Anonymous

    adorable all the way around

  • Anonymous

Simple construction, fresh combination of patterns and colors–she looks sophisticated AND youthful. Knockout.

  • Anonymous

Very cute, but not for January.

  • Anonymous

It is pretty darned cute. Love the mix of colors and pattern. (Although, I never wear yellow and brown, ever since my brother referred to that combo as a “pee and poo palette.”)

  • Sara__B

That’s a great dress, and it fits her perfectly, but it’s utterly out of season in January. I dislike the shoes, and her plastic doll hair, make-up, and simper. (She’s in the top ten of my irrational celebrity dislike list, so I’m probably being irrational.)

    • Anonymous

I no opinion about her, but I agree-the dress is not a January dress (not in the northern hemisphere, anyway) and I don’t like the shoes. However, I do like the dress and her in it.

Great look! Kristin Chenoweth looks like she’s about to hack a couple of inches off of Emmy’s dress and tack them on her own.

  • Allyson Wells

Love her and love Shameless! I think the green plaid makes it less summery and more winter-appropriate. Perfect styling as well.

  • Anonymous

Very chic and appropriate.   I watched that episode; she’s a charming and intelligent young lady…and what a voice (opera)!

  • Anonymous

    I want it.

  • Anonymous

    So very spring.

That’s a compliment and a complaint; I feel old and cranky today.

  • Cathy S

She looks lovely in that. Very cute.

  • Anonymous

    Love Huh

Nice but too summer-y.  Although the weather has been on the mild side lately, it is still January in NY.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=506473106 Mori Clark

straps are perhaps a skosh too wide out for my liking, but overall this is adorable.

  • MilaXX

    cute and very interview friendly

  • Anonymous

chic, cute and CLASSY — like!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Cute outfit, but it’s January. Note that the other woman has on a turtleneck and tights. I know, it’s not like she had to walk 40 blocks to get there or anything. Still, this just seems oddly season-inappropriate.

    • Anonymous

Not only is it season inappropriate, although very cute, it’s what is seen everywhere these days on the tube. Time after time, in contemporary comedy or drama, the men are dressed for the season, and the women are showing off either the good china or flaunting what nature or the surgeon gave them. I’m sick and tired of strapless, oops, almost wrote topless 😉 dresses over and over again. I don’t see women dressing like that in real life. So I’m glad to see this dress has straps.

At least Emmy here is wearing an appropriately designed dress for morning tv, and it’s one that she could put a jacket over to give a nod to it being January.

Totally love this look!  Very chic.

Hate the shoes.  (What else is new?….)

Great look. I love that dress and she definitely got everything right.

  • Anonymous

    Love it and totally agree.

I’d like to see Lea Michelle in this most adorable of outfits just to give T-Lo something else to say other than the well deserved “Of course.”

Emmy looks fanfuckingtastic in this chic little dress. Shocked that I love the color combo which if described to me I would have thought I’d hate.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=27432316 Ally Monge

She looks so fabulous. Great pattern on top and an interesting color palette, pretty hair + make-up + styling, and it doesn’t scream “Oh god please please please love me and cast me”

Lovely dress, but I seriously dislike those shoes.  They just seem too big or clunky or something.  Not right.

  • http://twitter.com/stopENtalk Brittany Johnstone

    Man, I love her hair!

  • Anonymous

I love this dress.  She looks so chic and I love how it is such a departure from her character.  Tweedish and plaid!  How awesome and seasonally appropriate!  Love this girl!

  • Anonymous

J’adore!!!  She looks cute, fresh and very classy!

  • Jennifer Jacobsen-Wood

I hate the shoes.  What’s up with wide straps across the toes?  I find it really unattractive.

  • Anonymous

It’s winter-appropriate … for LA, maybe. Too bad Kelly’s done up like Nanook of the North, or it wouldn’t be so noticeable. Standing alone, I think it’s a great look.

  • Anonymous

Like the skirt part of the dress and like the top part of the dress, but I don’t like them paired together.

  • Anonymous

Leah and Emmy are very similar in some ways.  They both always look a little plastic and shallow to me, but at least Emmy has always veered to the side of boring and classy, where as Leah seems to be pushing the slutty button like a mouse wired up in a lab.  This is a cute, cute little outfit.

Hate the shoes with it. Did I just say that about Louboutins?  I’m going to hell for that one.

    Yeah. Very chic.

ADORABLE. I think the shoes really work for this occasion because they look great sitting down.

Yep, I had the same thought. Third picture? Blah. Second picture? Smashing.

Cute dress on a cute girl. I like the bangle and the gold straps on her shoes. Very put-together. And a small round of applause for not doing the “mermaid” shoulder sweep with her hair in the pose.

  • http://twitter.com/project_pandora Rachel S.

I love this. I want it.

  • Anonymous

Love this! Fabulous colors and it fits her perfectly. Not really digging the shoes but the overall look is smashing.

  • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

The use of “appropriate” here is cracking me up. It’s not like she showed up for church in ho-wear. Anyway, who cares what season it is? That dress is terrific. I would like the shoes if not for the ankle straps.

I just praised an outfit that includes plaid, and white shoes. My entire world has been turned upside down.

I guess it is a matter of taste, but I have a problem with dresses that have completely unmatched tops and bottoms.  I like both the top of this dress and the skirt, I just don’t like them together.  The bottom is very business suit and the top is casual and very free form.  I love the top and wish she had made the bottom relate to the top in some way.

I realize I am out of step with everyone else on this, but when I see a dress with this problem, it reminds me of people who just randomly grab sepparates out of the closet and throw them together.  At least if these were separates, they could be worn with something that works.  Since this is a dress, she is going to be stuck with it, after this unmatched trend passes.

By the way:  If these were separates, would people’s opinion of the ou-fit change?   I bet that it would be viewed as a mess, not a fashion triumph.

    • Anonymous

Nope totally with you. It’s not working for me even though the shape and cut are perfect.

  • Anonymous

I love everything about this. And also the fact that Kristen and Kelly are so tiny that it makes Emmy look like she’s sitting next to two of the Seven Dwarfs.

    • Anonymous

I think it seems inappropriate for January – and don’t live the prints/fabrics but she does look kind of cute… but REALLY agree about how tiny they look!

  • Anonymous

    LOVE it!!!!!!

  • Anonymous

when did wearing a sleevless dress in january become fashionable? I am in the SF Bay Area and it is too cold to go out with long sleeves – not a wool sweater mind you, but sleeves. This girl is in NYC in January, dressing like Miami in the Spring time. Cute though, just weather inappropriate

  • Anonymous

Am not in love with the prints/color.  From here it looks like someone blew up a regular print on the computer and then ran it through a fabric making machine.  However, I love the cut of this dress, and I adore her fresh and classy look.  Yay!

  • Call me Bee

    She looks darling.  Cute dress!

  • Anonymous

    so. effin’. cute.

love how its tweed-y in the skirt, and then a massive magnified tweed pattern on top.

I’m not in love with this dress, but I’m just so happy she chose something of an appropriate length! Nothing bothers me more than actresses on these shows who are half a centimeter away from a severe PR problem and who are pulling down their skirts the whole time they’re being interviewed.

  • Anonymous

i love it.  but her hair is odd.

  • Anonymous

Love Carolina Herrera.  Need to go see if I can do a fantasy try-on in a store.

  • Anonymous

she looks adorable!  see, i’m not in such a crabby mood after all.  i lovelovelove that dress.

  • Anonymous

Why is she talking to two half-sized dolls?

  • Anonymous

    That dress is fantastic.
Kudos to her for looking young and stylish without thinking she has to look like a floozie.

  • Anonymous

Love this!  she looks young, hip and properly ladylike for climbing up on those stools they insist on using on TV.
