Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield in NYC

Posted on January 10, 2012

Hey, you two lovebirds and, not coincidentally, co-stars of an upcoming mega-budget movie! We don’t care if your suspiciously emotive promenade before the cameras here is staged and styled. We don’t even care if your entire romance is a publicist-generated career move. You both look adorable and stylish and as we all know, that’s all that really matters in life.

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield Out in NYC. Emma Stone wears bag by Lanvin, jeans by J Brand, scarf by Rag & Bone and hat by Hoss Intropia.

Lanvin JL Bowling Bag

And while you’re both wearing items that would work quite well for a “Get the look for less!” fashion mag feature because at first glance they look so relatively normal, pretty much everything you’re both wearing is expensive and designed to look like it’s not. The image here is cute, relatable couple, swinging their shopping bags through the streets of New York, stopping to laugh and kiss wherever there are cameras.

Yes, we’re cynical. But you both look adorable! Love your bag, girl! Excellent job making sure it’s prominent in every shot!

I love the red skinny jeans on her. So cute. I also like the bag, though it is a little big. That shape is great. It is roomy, but you can still find stuff in it because you’re not rooting around in a bottomless pit of a purse.

I don’t really follow celebrity relationships all that much, but every picture I’ve seen of these two looks so staged. They might very well be a real couple and have just decided that if they’re going to be photographed, they might as well embrace it. Even so: Staged.

I also love the red skinny jeans and I’m so anti-colored jeans it’s not even funny.

    • Anonymous

Aw, I love the way he holds her hand close to his chest. So sweet. They’re so adorable. I’m such a sap.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HREPOWNBVUBRIVPQCF3ST2IKDM Euphory

They look so fake I might cry.  No connection at all.  He looks he wants to run away.  Her eyes are constantly searching for cameras.

      • Anonymous

lmao, I like your comment right after mine. It’s like gullible kitten/bitter kitten.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HREPOWNBVUBRIVPQCF3ST2IKDM Euphory

His face:  OMG please let’s get this over with.  I’m in PAIN here.  I’m not paid enough to do this.
Her face:  Ok, one paparazzi down, 100 to go!  Andrew, damn it, just smile!  I’ll buy you that marshmallow if you just cooperate here!

      • Anonymous

I knowwww, and it makes me so sad because I would LIKE it if they were a real couple.

    • Anonymous

You guys are hilarious.  And I think they look terrific together, even if it is all so very carefully planned.

    • Anonymous

I want to give them the benefit of the doubt.  Obviously they know that paparazzi are standing right there taking pictures, so it makes sense that they would behave differently in that moment.  Whether or not the entire relationship is staged, that I don’t know…

    • Rand Ortega

They’re so stinkin’ cute! Some of these “romances” are so obviously contrived for buzz generation, but GarStone looks genuinely into each other. Either way, they’ll probably break up after the premiere. Blame it on the pressure of “media attention”.
Love the clothes & the bag is TO Die!

    • Anonymous

I like the bag in the snake prints better.  I also like the shape – I have been looking for a (not ridiculously expensive) leather purse that is a little longer and not too deep.  But calling that a bowling bag makes me laugh – a two ball bag for toddlers ?

    • BerlinerNYC

Staged or not, they at least look like they are genuinely having a good time. They’re each so cute.

Here’s my question, though. TLo, do you have special fashion Terminator-vision that lets you identify the provenance of every garment and accessory in a photograph? Or was this information already determined/leaked elsewhere? Pardon my naïveté, but I have this question nearly every time I see a “so-and-so in so-and-so” and it wasn’t a red carpet appearance where they were directly asked about it.

      • Anonymous

So glad you asked this because I always wonder the same thing!

On another topic, aren’t her feet cold?

        • http://twitter.com/RBinTexas RBinTexas

The ID of the clothing and accessories is really one of the things that make this blog special, and I LOVE the photos of the runway garments to compare. There must be a marketing clearinghouse for this information, eh? But I won’t blame TLo for keeping it a secret.

        • foodycat

I thought exactly the same thing! If it’s cold enough for coats it is cold enough for socks.

        • Beth Anderson

Seriously, if it’s cold enough for a wool coat and scarf, it’s too cold for flats. People where I live in DC do this all the time and it drives me batty.

          • MilaXX

I’m one of those folks. Some of us burn a little hotter. I’m one of the target audience for the puffy vest. If I’m too bundled up I sweat and then I get sick.

            • Anonymous

Oh, same here. I definitely burn hotter than most; I can’t even keep socks on inside the house.
Also, it’s not really that cold here in NY. Her shoes are fine if she’s not the kind of girl who is always freezing.

            • Anonymous

I wear knee high sheer nylons under my pants when I want to wear flats in the winter. This adds just enough warmth for the walk into work from my car, but I wouldn’t do this if I actually had to walk through snow or I had to be outside for a long time.

Here in Chicago, I’ve seen people in flip-flops!  When it’s 30º!

    • http://orangtunes.blogspot.com BIG MAC

      Why are they so cute?

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

        um,….photoshop?

        • http://orangtunes.blogspot.com BIG MAC

Haha! I meant as couple. They always look so cute. Staged or not, they look adorable!

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Oh I was referring to the notion that maybe they both have portable photoshop projectors so they can always look super cute, even when they really aren’t.

    • foodycat

I want to believe. And I want her to put some socks on, her poor feet must be freezing!

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

Man, I hate the closures on his coat.

      • foodycat

I like the classic walrus teeth on a duffle coat, although I do think the rope or whatever they are attached with is a bit too thick and makes them stand out too much.

      • Anonymous

YES. They are too white for me. Not that they should be black, but they just shine forth too much.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Am I the only one who thinks that holding her hand across his chest like that must be damned uncomfortable for her if she’s walking at his side?  He’s bending her hand backwards to do it. Oh wait, this is supposed to be about the clothes. Um,….eh.

      • Anonymous

Comfort means NOTHING if it interferes with the blocking.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

So true.  How could I have forgotten that vital information?

    • bloodshothalfblind

fake-itty fake fake fake.  but cute!

    • Anonymous

Duffle coat with ugly closures. Douchey sock-hat. He looks like a drip.

    • http://twitter.com/Kerry_McC Kerry McCombs

I love her skinny red jeans! But flats and no socks? Her feet have got to be COLD!

      • MilaXX

I’m one of those people who almost never wear socks even if this weather. Then again, I am menopausal and need the occasional blast of cold air.

    • http://www.facebook.com/aboutelle Ashleigh Boutelle

why does his BICEP show THRU such a heavy coat??

    • Anonymous

My husband and I never look this cute when we are running errands. We evidently need to stage ourselves better. I think a Lanvin bag would definitely help.

    • Mariah J

She looks adorable…I don’t really like his getup, the hat ruins it.

    • MilaXX

They look cute, but this one screams staged for the cameras.

    • http://twitter.com/TheRealSandraOh Sandra Oh

Awww, I think they are adorbs.

    • Anonymous

How often do they have to go out “shopping” for the press?

    • Anonymous

Just a couple of young ITs, doing some casual movie pre-promoting in swag. My god, we live in a cynical world.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

Love her bag and jeans and basically the whole look – except the hat.  He looks adorable too.

    • Anonymous

This is what movie stars should look like on their day off–like real people, but somehow better….

    • Cathy S

I love her hat. And those red jeans look great on her. He’s just adorable, but I hate that hat.

    • Anonymous

You missed the best thing they’re both wearing….SMILES!!

      • Anonymous

        Truly the best accessory, IMO.

    • Judy_J

      I want her coat.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Am I the only one who thinks that bag does not work with her ensemble?  Either one of the other versions of the bag would have looked better than the pale one she’s carrying.

    • Anonymous

I think it looks so staged it’s not cute at all… like someone threw all these clothes and props at/on them… like all that stuff still has the tags on and the purse is stuffed with the paper that came in it.

    • CQAussie

I want that Lanvin bag and those skinny jeans.  Her hat I can do without.

    • Anonymous

This looks so stilted and “arranged.”  How silly.

Anyway, he loses points for covering his fabulous hair with that douchey cap.

Can I ask a really naive question? Do these celebrities just fake a relationship for the cameras and privately just do their own thing? Or are they actually going through ALL the motions? It always troubles me when I think that celebrities are marrying and having children with people who they are only with because their publicists told them to… it skirts awfully close to the line of prostitution for me.

      • MilaXX

Personally I don’t think all or most are. I think many have flings or short live romances when they work/meet on sets and some of those end up with them marrying and/or having children. Then there are moments like this that are obviously staged. Still I wouldn’t discount the possibility that they aren’t dating in real life and the publicists are just taking advantage of the fact.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1046681022 Paula Berman

I have always wondered about KStew and RPattz.

      I want that bag!

    • Anonymous

Wow, what a bunch of cynics! My fauxmance meter must need recharging because I’m buying what they’re selling. I agree with the person who said they are just acting strange in front of the cameras.

On the fashion front, she looks adorable, except for the weather-inappropriate footwear. In fact maybe the shoes are proof that their romance is real — she’s so in love that she can’t feel the cold!

He, on the other hand, needs to ditch the toggle coat and hat. The rest is perfection, as always.

    • Anonymous

I’m just left wondering if Emma’s feet are cold.

    • Anonymous

All’s well, except for his stupid head condom.

    • Anonymous

      You cynics, you…  :)

    • http://needtherapy.tumblr.com/ skadi1

I always feel like he has a Backpfeifengesicht (German for “face that should be slapped”…bless the Germans for having such a useful word).  And I don’t like her.  But I guess they look nice.

      • Anonymous

LOVE that word! Thank you! I agree about him. I do love her, though.

    • marilyn

His hat, the bleached jeans and the hi-tops do not do it for me.  He over shot the understated look to the point he looks like he should be washing windows, taking out garbage, etc.  She got it, he did not.  Love her purse.  Usually I don’t like hats, but hers is great!

    • Anonymous

They both look adorable and together they look even more adorable. So digging her red skinny jeans and flats. BUT this is so obviously staged it’s beyond ridiculous. If this cute little outing isn’t entirely for the paps then I’m Naomi Campbell. Minus the phone throwing.

    • Anonymous

Her: Cute.  Trying a little too hard, but it’s all for her career.  I would like not to look like a bloated blood-sausage in those jeans, but alas…
Him: Hmm.  Would a straight man wear both a purple knit cap AND a toggle-fastened pea coat?

    • Anonymous

I just want to be friends with her.

    • Anonymous

“Emma Stone wears bag by Lanvin”–snort! I’m sure you guys did that on purpose, but can you imagine a life where you go out realizing that people are going to write about every single frickin’ identifiable thing on you? I kinda get Johnny Depp’s approach to fashion now.

    • http://twitter.com/applecocola Stacy

He makes me want to wear my duffel coat again, and just when i was thinking it’s too juvenile a look.

    • http://twitter.com/RzYoung RzYoung

Wow that is cynical, but damn this looks staged! I’m getting right on the cynical train to Bittertown with you guys!

    • Anonymous

Her: good, except for purse (not to my tastes & too dressy, IMO)
Him: good, except for excessively Not Black toggle closures

Affect: cute but Actorly. (Actor-ish?) They may or may not be adorably in love but they sure seem to be paying attention to their blocking.

    • Anonymous

I’m feeling the oddest love for that hat right now, but I think it might be in an “only with this look” kind of way.  Still.  Looks fabulous.
