Dakota Fanning Pinks Out in L.A.

Posted on January 19, 2012

We’re starting to think those sweet little Fanning girls are stone cold master manipulators in constant competition with each other to ensure press attention.

“That little gum-snapper thinks she can just go to the Rodarte dinner in a cute dress and have her picture taken? I’m dying my tips pink, bitch! How do you like that?

Dakota Fanning in Los Angeles.

And thus the gauntlet has been thrown down. They’re just going to keep trying to outdo each other. And as we all know, it’s just a slippery, inevitable slide from pink tips to tattoos, then piercings, and before you know it, devil worship. A shame. We really liked those Fanning girls.

But hey, super-cute skirt!

Dakota, try and wear some makeup next time you want your picture taken.

    • http://profiles.google.com/laurenjeanstm Lauren St Martin

And don’t part your hair down the middle. It just doesn’t look right.

        I think it’s a Fanning birth defect.

    • giovanna marinelli

Fortunately for her, she seems not to care that she’s having her picture taken without makeup. At her age, the cleaner she can stay the better.

Let her get away with the no make up for as long as she can. It’s only a matter of time before she’s forced to cake it on like the rest of her contemporaries.

  • Anonymous

That’s the first time I’ve ever believe she’s actually a teenager.

  • Anonymous

She looks like she’s freezing. Is LA having a cold snap?

    • Lori

When I saw that second picture my inner mom kicked in and I desperately wanted to tell her to put on a sweater and some tights.

    • Anonymous

Yes. If it was within the past few days she is freezing!

I literally said “That’s not Dakota Fanning.” Then I clicked on the sis pic, looked again, and said “Hm. I guess it *is* Dakota Fanning.” It’s amazing what makeup and lighting can do for someone’s face. Not that she needs to look polished every time she walks out the door – I just didn’t recognize her with her actual face on. : )

I really think she looks like Drew Barrymore in these pics.

      • Melvis Velour

AMEN!  That’s exactly what I thought as well!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=12315747 Caitlin Steinert

I appreciate the fact that she looks like a normal person in these pictures. Minimal makeup. Love it!

    • MilaXX

yeah I don’t mind the no makeup because this really looks like she’s just out living life.

    • muzan-e

With pink tips, and black boots with a colourful skirt! Screams ‘happy teenager!’ to me, which is fantastic. *g*

    • Anonymous

agreed, so stylish, and so unpretentious.

  • Anonymous

Eh, she’s at an age when she can get away with pink hair.
    I like the outfit.
So…what do we think the other Fanning’s next move will be? Should we start a betting pool? This could be more fun than a super bowl pool.

  • Anna Maria Diamanti

I like the pink tips, but to pull it off she needs to keep her roots done.

    • Anonymous

Good point. Now that you mention it, she does kind of have a tri-color thing going on, doesn’t she?

    • Anonymous

Okay, now I can see that’s what was bugging me. Other than that don’t mind the pink at all.

  • Anonymous

    It IS a cute skirt.

  • Anonymous

Those boots really hit at the least flattering part of the leg.  The skirt is cute.  The hair-eh.  Whatever, she’s young.  I dyed my hair pink, too.  Of course, it wasn’t just the ends and I kept my roots touched up, but whatever.  I can’t figure out if her face is so red b/c she’s cold or if she’s just not wearing makeup and has some skin issues like the rest of us mortals.  The way she’s holding her arms makes me think she’s cold, but I guess she could just be really uncomfortable.

  • Victoria Sharoyan

    LOVE those boots.

    • Anonymous

Me too. We’re probably in the minority. :)

  • Anonymous

That skirt is too short for the fullness of it

  • https://profiles.google.com/104791269167429064986 Judy S

I love this. She looks her age and happy but the skirt is terrific and the rest looks comfortable enough. Pink hair,  why not? I assume that there is a high wind which is lofting her tresses into bizarre shapes.

  • Anonymous

Love the skirt. She needs tights with those boots and that weather. The pink tips are cute. My daughter has been toying with the idea of doing hers. The younguns have discovered the old trick of powdered Jell-O/Kool-Aid as hair dye.

    • Anonymous

then you can suck on your hair when you’re bored in class.

  • Anonymous

Very cute skirt but man, that hair and lack of make up is soooo not her friend.  There’s “fresh faced” and then there is just plain…

    • Anonymous

I like seeing her without all of the makeup. She is a pretty young girl and there is something quite refreshing seeing an actress look a bit average for a change. It makes her more appealing, at least in my eyes.

Plus she looks exactly like my childhood best friend here, so I may be biased in her favor!

    • Anonymous

they don’t allow makeup at her catholic girls’ school.  don’t think the nuns will be too crazy about the pink tips either.  she could be in for a whack across the knuckles with a ruler.

  • MilaXX

I think she looks cute even with no makeup. I’d rather see Kelly Osborne do something like this rather than that horrible gray hair but Kelly probably thinks this isn’t hardcore enough.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HREPOWNBVUBRIVPQCF3ST2IKDM Euphory

I think Kelly already did pink hair a few years ago.

      • MilaXX

Now that you mention it, she did. I forgot.

  • Anonymous

she is cute but i really dont get the hair dip thing

  • Anonymous

I ADORE THAT SKIRT!  her knee looks like she fell down on the playground and got a boo-boo.  wouldn’t have paired it with that blouse, like a parochial school uniform.

  • Anonymous

I think it’s cute. She’s what, 14? 15? Something like that. This is the time for pink hair.

    • Anonymous

      She’s 17 in college.

I know..it’s hard to get old, but it happens to the best of us

  • Anonymous

Yeesh I’ve seen it done better- hell I’ve had it done better in my own hair and I shop around for a cheap stylist. That is a lovely skirt though.

  • Anonymous

These are not very good pictures of her. If you’re going to run around fishing for paparazzi, it’s pretty sad if this is the outcome.

  • Anonymous

Dont bend over! Don’t bend over!

  • Terence Ng

“And as we all know, it’s just a slippery, inevitable slide from pink tips to tattoos, then piercings, and before you know it, devil worship.”
…Then replacing Rooney Mara in the next two Girl with the Dragon Tattoo films. I see what she’s trying to do there. Girl knows how to survive.

    • Anonymous

I’m just waiting for these Fanning girls to do a remake of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, 35 years from now.

      • Terence Ng

But you ARE, Dakota! You ARE in that CHAIR!

  • http://twitter.com/anacedillo Ana Cedillo

lol i like it! although i was hoping to move on from the colored hair for a bit now..but eh its young and fun!

  • Anonymous

I HATE those boots.  But I have an irrational dislike of booties not under pants.

The skirt is super cute though

    • Anonymous

I have an irrational (almost psychotic) hatred of cowboy boots, in particular, with skirts or shorts.

  • Melanie S.

I dyed my tips pink one summer in high school.  Got back to school in the fall and said this to some of my male friends, who replied, “You dyed your WHAT?!”

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

For her age, I love the hair.  I am an avid hater of all things bootie.  They need to die with putty colored shoes, and quickly. I beg of you fashion gods.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1043171034 Tadiana Walton Jones

The color of the hair is kind of unfortunate but I support the idea of celebrities on the street in little/no makeup.  Especially if they’re teenagers.

  • marilyn

Shades of Martha Stewart and Rosie O’Donnell!!!!  Lose that white shirt FAST.

  • Anonymous

It’s just a teenage girl thing.  One of my daughters had the blond hair with pink ends at about the same age.  The other daughter had purple streaks a few years later.

  • Anonymous

It would, of course, be SO unlike you boys to start a rumor. But when all the rags start headlining things like “Fanning Feud!”, or “Dakota Declares A Duel To The Death!!”, I will smile smugly and say “Yes, I know. I heard it from T Lo first.”

  • Anonymous

uh oh. she looks like a human being. that’s not good! she needs to be sporting 2lbs of make up otherwise they’re gonna retract her celeb status

  • Anonymous

She kind of looks old and I hate myself for saying that. I guess everything has an expiration date, even tiny little Fanning girls.

  • Anonymous

Glad to see her looking like crap and freezing, just like a REGULAR KID.

  • Joey Melliza

she looks a lot like chloe multiple personas sevigny here – maybe chloe is the third fanning?

  • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

And here I thought these would be pictures of her eating hotdogs on Melrose/La Brea.  I hate roots, but don’t mind the pink tips. I agree with whoever said she looks like Drew Barrymore.

  • Anonymous

Is anyone else getting a Chloe Sevigny vibe here?

  • http://twitter.com/sockandaphone Gaby

okay it was “cold” here today, wtf is she wearing a spring outfit? (and by cold I mean in the 50s)

  • http://twitter.com/TMamBo Therese Bohn

Let the kid be a kid! She’s cute!

  • Anonymous

A teenager being a teenager! Love it!

    • Anonymous

While TLo apparently reserves the right to continue to bitch at teenagers (otherwise how will they learn they made a mistake?), they repeatedly state that they think this age is the time for them to do all the weird stuff they’ll regret later.

  • Anonymous

you know those fanning girls are going to be the next olsens.. soon when they are older they are going to have their own clothing line and sell a backpack that cost 30 grand

  • Anonymous

Hate those red/pink/blue hair strips being sported lately.
