Burberry Prorsum Fall 2012 Menswear Collection

Posted on January 24, 2012

There’s a sort of “dandy Sherlock Holmes meets ’60s mod schoolboy” feel to this collection, which means it couldn’t possibly be any more British even if they were all sipping tea as “God Save the Queen” played while they walked the runway. Lorenzo is all over the fox shirt, but Tom is happy to leave him to it, so long as he can have one of those striped overcoats. We both love the velvet pieces and those cropped super-puffy jackets are INSANE, but we’re not entirely sure we could pull them off without looking like Edina Monsoon. The studded leather gloves? Yeah, we’d cut someone for those, too. What a fun, luxe, dandy-riffic collection of looks.

I would love to see men out and about dressed like that.

    • Anonymous

Yes indeed!  What a treat for the eyes that would be.

    • Anonymous

For the sake of my dignity, I almost hope that doesn’t happen. I’d end up staring at them or jumping them constantly.

I’ve had too many years of shopping for kids clothes. All I can see is these miniaturized for toddlers though the down puffy jackets already look kind of mini. Boys clothing is so blah, these would liven things up a lot. Sorry, Lo, I think the fox shirt, while awesome, may be best left to boys under 6. Now that striped coat, that is pure awesome in any size!

I’ll fight anyone for those gloves though. They are brilliant.

Those mini puffy jackets look like life preservers.  And boys, you really wouldn’t want your ass hanging out of the down during a New York winter.

You show me the heterosexual man who will wear a sweater with a bedazzled owl on it, and I’ll show you a unicorn. (Or a metro-sexual hipster.)

I plan on making a DIY version. I’ll post my how to save 900 dollars on studded gloves post here next week. LOL

What’s up with this recent obsession to place animals… all Osh Kosh B’Gosh like… on grown men’s clothing? Did Christopher Bailey and Jil Sander recently have a child together, The Next Best Thing style?

      • Anonymous

I guess the boys were all getting Hello Kitty envy and wanted to join the fun.

  • Annie Leung

The only quote that comes to mind when I look at this collection is the one from Tennant’s run on Doctor Who: “slim and a little bit . . . foxy”

Burberry never disappoints (I want those gloves too, maybe they’ll make a female version).

Is it me or are the pants giving those guys hourglass figures?

The more conservative pieces have a sort of Chuck Bass vibe. Add a little trim to the lapels and he’ll be there. The animal faces will never be worn by a real person but that tan raincoat with the stripes is great. Great accessories, too, especially the bags and cases.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

      TOTALLY Chuck Bass!

  • Anonymous

The velvet and the overcoats with stripes and the tweeds!  So handsome!  Not wild about the puffy coats.  It’s the Seinfeld factor…

  • Anonymous

I’d like the third coat slightly tailored for a female form, please.

If I saw a man on the street wearing one of the fox sweaters, I’m pretty sure I’d have to suppress the urge to giggle uncontrollably.

    The striped jackets are gorgeous.

So, we’re fighting for the gloves are we?

    • Anonymous

Protip: Wearing said gloves while fighting will ensure your victory.

  • Anonymous

I can totally see Matt Smith rocking some of these outfits, including that fox shirt.  Love the polka dots.

    LOVE

i was skimming through the menswear collections lately and this was one of the more memorable ones.
    love the fox!

Paging Chris Colfer!  Here’s the next step up for you!

    • http://www.tomandorenzo.com Tom and Lorenzo

      Excellent call!

I just posted the same thing before I read this… a Glee guy could rock the matching polka dot shirt/tie combo.

Burberry has one of my favorite Fall 2012 Menswear, along with D&G. That Fox shirt is too adorable for words.

  • Anonymous

I need both of those striped coats. Need.

  • Anonymous

I’m such a sucker for a man in a velvet blazer, yum!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sarah-Adams/1143985903 Sarah Adams

I would date a man purely on the strength of that owl sweater. (Well, okay one date. After that he’d need a personality.) But aren’t these awesome?! See, a guy can wear color and texture without looking like a clown or a fetish toy.

I’d lose the studded trapper keepers and the puffy cropped jackets (really?! what on earth?) but otherwise, I really like this look.

    • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

Oh, I think that if you find a guy willing to wear that owl sweater, you wouldn’t need to worry about a personality. (One that you LIKED, maybe not, but it would certainly be strong!)

  • Anonymous

Man, I would love to be able to pull off a velvet suit, but I really think you need less than 5% body fat to do so.

    • http://www.tomandorenzo.com Tom and Lorenzo

True, but a velvet blazer is a classic that could fit a wide range of body types. Tom has one in black and Lorenzo has one in teal and we couldn’t be shaped less alike. They look great with jeans.

      • Anonymous

Hmm…These Burberry ones are so gorgeous I may have to check out the blazer option! I’m in love with that navy one.

  • Anonymous

I love the double-breasted suit, the shawl-collared sweaters, the studded gloves, and the color-blocked suede carry-all and porte-feuille.

  • Anonymous

I want to start a duel with a pair of those gloves. You wouldn’t need to pull the Bugs Bunny drop-a-brick-in-it trick to mess up Daffy.

The puffy coats are a bit silly, but everything else is just so lovely. And the satchels! Can the satchels be unisex? Because I want all of them.

  • MilaXX

I like! Love the stripe-y coat, but I can’t see anyone other than Kanye West wearing that fox sweater. J’adore the gloves and will cut you for the prickly bags. The short puffy coat has got to go though.

  • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

I know this puts me in a minority, but God help me I LOVE those flat caps on a man.

I also sort of wonder if I could pull one off myself. Would the fact that I’m female cancel out my stereotypically Irish face?

    • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

Bonus: men’s hats are probably large enough to actually fit my weird head!

    • Anonymous

You’re not in the minority about flat caps!  Or rather, if you are, I’m in there with you.

    • Anonymous

      I like them too.

  • http://twitter.com/TheScottFinley Scott Finley

Okay, I see what I’m wearing next fall. Must have several of those pieces.  Burberry has really done a great job of elevating their design.

  • http://profiles.google.com/xelad007 C Deal

Oh My Gosh! Etsy’s foxes and owls have infiltrated the runway. Hipster chic anyone?

  • Stefanos Mantyla

Am I in just a good mood right now, or were those two exceptional collections in a row you just showed us?

  • Anonymous

I love this so much I am kind of at a loss for words. And as for the gloves–I think my first fashgasm ever was over some Burberry gloves. Someday when I have money I will buy a pair of studded monstrosities, and I will know I Have Arrived.

  • Terence Ng

    What’s with the animals?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Patrick-Cleary/1201575213 Patrick Cleary

Oh my god, I would love to dress like that every day. I think the studded gloves would scare my coworkers, but I wouldn’t care because FOX SHIRT!

  • http://www.facebook.com/seelebrennt Christina Diaz

SO.MUCH.DELICIOUS.  there are a few pieces in there that made me go “meh,” but on the whole, it’s lovely.  i wish more men dressed in this fashion.  properly fitted, of course.

  • http://tigergray.blogspot.com/ Tiger Gray

    OWL SWEATER. DO WANT.

  • http://twitter.com/VicksieDo VicksieDo

Um, I would not go out with anyone wearing these clothes, but perhaps that’s not the target demographic….lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1046681022 Paula Berman

What do you think of the matching polka dot shirt and tie? It’s… interesting. I can see some of the Glee boys giving it a try, maybe.

  • Anonymous

The owl reminds me of a summer camp art project. A actually like a lot of it, save the animal crap and the short super puffy jackets.

  • Susan Crawford

I want the coat on the far right, first row; the fox-head sweater in the third row middle; every single pair of gloves; and – oh, yes – throw in all the bags and totes while you’re at it. In short: ZOWIE!

  • http://twitter.com/ms_smartiepants Beth M.

You wouldn’t have to cut someone for those gloves, the gloves will do the cutting for you! (And if they make a womens’ version, I may need to reconsider paying the mortgage this month).

  • Anonymous

I’m grabbing those studded gloves and running out the door, snatching the red ones on my way out.

I have an overcoat fetish but not feeling the coats with colour bottoms nor those odd puffy shrug things. But that first suit is totally cut for my build do it too will be purloined.

  • R. L.

Those studded gloves are awesome.  I wish I could find a womens’ version.  I guess I’ll have to make my own since I have studdes a pair of jeans.

    • Anonymous

Just don’t mistakenly wipe your nose in the cold while wearing those bad boys….

  • http://orangtunes.blogspot.com BIG MAC

I love this collection. That velvet is to the die for. More men should wear velvet.

  • Noelle Haland

The sweater at 7:57 in the video (cowl neck, black & white patterns) is fantastic. I’m surprised it didn’t pique your interests, TLo…??

  • Anonymous

Am hating the fox on the sweaters/shirts.  Love the rest.

  • Anonymous

Gimme stripy overcoat please. Thank you.

  • BuffaloBarbara

While I applaud Tom’s love of the striped overcoat, I have to say, I am not a fan of the apparent trend of putting character faces on men’s clothes.  I definitely prefer the color-blocked sweater.

  • http://twitter.com/DarthJaeda Jaeda Laurez

I love the look with the orange bag. So sexy! Most of it looks great, except for the fox shirts or whatever that is supposed to be. It looks like somebody made a fox with a Lite Brite.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CQPXLNCBM5CZSHZZXJDHPVFS7E Buffy

Fight you for the overcoat Tom!

  • Anonymous

Hmm. Not a fan of the owls & foxes, the studded gloves (how hard to wear!), the polka dot tie on polka dot shirt or, most especially, the cropped puffy jackets (unflattering AND impractical).

So why do I LOVE this?  LOVE.

I guess it’s just about everything else, as well as the way it’s put together. Those caps, for example, somehow don’t look at all twee or stagey. I’d love to buy that pale striped overcoat for several of male relatives (who are rarely in the same place at the same time, I should add.)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=786600203 Dan Howell

ACK! IN LOVE!! I would kill for most of this. Stripped coat? YES PLEASE!
