Bottega Veneta Fall 2012 Menswear Collection

Posted on January 23, 2012

It’s kind of hard to make the basic suit look interesting in this day and age, but Bottega Veneta managed it with this collection. We’re totally digging the color-blocking here. Although the rise on those pants are so low, we think we’ll probably stick just to the suit jackets (so long as we’re playing fantasy shopper). We like the slim cut of them. And in that fantasy shopping vein, Lorenzo’s kind of loving the high-heeled boots. Tom, at 6’2″ and shaped like a brick, can’t back away from them fast enough, but Lo is enraptured by them. Tom knows that if Lorenzo ever comes home with a pair of them, he will immediately put on the Purple Rain soundtrack and laugh and laugh and laugh, but he will secretly be a little jealous that he can’t get away with wearing them.  Still, Tom can comfort himself with some of that outerwear, should he feel left out. The first one in row 3 or the third one in row 4 will do nicely, in case any sugar daddies are out there reading us. See our “About” page for our sizes and where you can ship to.

Come on, admit it. How many of you went to our “About” page looking for sizing and shipping info?

Those are fantastic. If I saw a man wearing one of those suits I would totally jump his bones.

(Though he probably wouldn’t appreciate it because really? How many straight dudes are going to wear suits this awesome?)

Love third row on left.   Love the model third row on right.  I have to say, those suits look like they were subjected to the Cyborg Nation…

    • Anonymous

Those models should ask His Royal Badness for some lessons in how to walk in those heels. Love most of the black jackets and I like the jeans. *I did check the about page, but alas*.

I’m impressed with the alignment of the shapes across the sleeves and torso in the first two looks!

I would love to see those first or second suits on the red carpet.

Love the 3rd suit in the first row, and the 1st suit in the second row.  LOVE.

Haha, I actually did check out your “About” just then. Red-faced now. As the page was loading, I was debating whether to abandon the blog if indeed you were such whores you stoop to cloying for gifts. Then when I realized it was a joke, I felt bad. Send me your address anyway, and I’ll add you to my Christmas list.

These *are* fun!  The construction is fantastic and I love the detail on the shirt collars of the first two.  Would love to see these in the wild.

Some great looking pieces in here.  But I have to ask, just how many black and dark grey outfits does it take before you fall sound asleep?  All excitement of the collection was in the first 10 outfits.

The early Beatles would have looked fabulous in these jackets, shirts, and shoes, and so would a slim, stylish guy today. I don’t like the fit (or maybe the cut) of the most of the jeans and trousers, though. They bunch up in the crotch and don’t flatter the guys wearing them.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

i think that may be part of the point, making the boys look like they’re really packin’

        • Anonymous

Well if women can wear high heels and push-up bras, why can’t men wear high heels and bunched crotches? ;-)

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

My dear lady, I see exactly that every day at my work up on Castro St. (snorting hugely) And then there are the repeated times in clothing history when men have worn heels and packed crotches. So I don’t see anything odd in it whatever.

I like this. I would love to see the tan/grey & blue/grey on the RC and quite a few of the jackets would work. Sadly I think the shoes are a bit much.

The suit jackets really are marvelous!

Why doesn’t someone wear that first jacket with a nice pair of jeans? Anyone? ‘short’ Colin F., one of the Glee boys, Jude Law? Anyone?????

You’re right. These would look better broken up into separates.

    • Anonymous

If my husband came home wearing one of these, I’d be laughing my butt off.  I don’t like any of them, not one iota.  Ugh.

You guys are so funny. This post had me cracking up. I like the shoes on the left the best. The other two read–no, scream–”Pimp” to me.

I like the outerwear better than the sportcoats; and of the sportcoats, I like the top row far right one and the second row far left one the best.

I don’t know, if you wore it in real life, I bet people would say to you “Hey dude!  Suze Orman wants her jacket back!”

    • Anonymous

      No. Just no.

    • Anonymous

Now men have the opportunity to know the pain of wearing heels!

      • Anonymous

They all walked so awkwardly.  You can tell heels are not in their repertoire.

        • Anonymous

It seems so strange, marked by the 70′s as I be & living now in the land of the cowboy boot & the indie musician, that young guys who pose & strut for a living should look so uncomfortable in a moderate heel. I kept thinking that maybe the boots weren’t the right sizes.

          • Anonymous

Some of it could have been the leather pants, too.  I saw the gait as odd.  Like many had a pain in their lower back.

      • Anonymous

They don’t look all that high and I see no stilettos. No sympathy.

    • Anonymous

Love the color blocking and yes I did go look at your about page. :D

    • Anonymous

these are silly to me. Who is wearing these?

    • Anonymous

I Love the Shoes! Especially the green ones.
Also love the leather pants & many of the outer wear jackets.
Not crazy about the suits, although I liked them better seeing the models walk in them.
The 3rd on the top row is my favorite.
All in all the guys looked hot in these clothes.
Want the shoes loved all of them.

    • Anonymous

Love all. The blue and green vinyl sport coat and the silver bomber being my favorites. Also the shoes look very comfortable. The purple ones I would wear.

    • Anonymous

the two last looks in the 2nd row look like they’re made of duct tape

      bleh

first time a menswear collection has made me wish I was actually a bloke so I can buy/fit/wear/werq the clothes on the runway, damn you vagina!

      LOVE.

    • http://www.facebook.com/Cookie.Taz Aisa Ginger Jake Psenicnik

this lady would wear the hell outta those suits

    • Anonymous

SO unfortunate.  The suit jackets are stunning but the entire look is ruined by those pants.  I would so rock one of those suits if the pants were a bit more fitted.

    • Anonymous

Shout out to all the comments that are going wtf? It’s okay, everyone else has drunk some crazy juice and can’t see that these clothes are just silly.

    • Anonymous

Top row – is the color blocking printed or painted/dyed on?  Or is it actual other fabric?

    • Anonymous

First pic, 2nd row.  GORGEOUS.  The suit’s nice too.

    • Anonymous

Aaaaahhhhhh, those first two suits are SO WONDERFUL.  Dear men of the world: these are the clothes you should be wearing more often.

    • http://twitter.com/ennisamy Amy Ennis

These models are too thin and Bieber/Cullen inspired. Where are the real men? The clothes are nice. I prefer the leather and not duck taped ones.

    • Anonymous

OMG, those boots are wonderful! (But then, I always thought that 80′s Prince was fantastic!)

If they are remotely affordable, go for it.

I like the suits but don’t see very many guys who move in my professional circles (academia, state government, tech companies) going for them, and the artsy crowd I know dresses down.  Ah, ’tis bleak out here in the middle-aged middle class.

Some of those outerwear jackets, particularly the very last one, are nice.

And Tom Cruise must be whispering a little prayer of gratitude just about now.

Those suit pants are incredibly unflattering and the jackets not far behind. There’s even a partial Mickey Mouse in the first one.  I do like the black outerwear, though.

    • Anonymous

I like the color blocking but I think it works best on the jackets.  A lot of those models look like they should be in my basement with my son, playing video game,  so that’s a little distracting.

Love these!  Even the plasticky looking one would look great on a young hip guy.

    • Anonymous

I’m pretty sure Robert Downey Jr and Johnny Weir will be showing up in some of this.  You should totally fantasy stylist these looks.  Why should the ladies get all the fun?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=786600203 Dan Howell

OH.MY.GOD. I want so many things on this page, its ridiculous. I agree about the rise on the pants, though. I would take most of the jackets and coats, though. I wouldn’t be opposed to a fabulous pair of heeled boots, either. As a sports coat lover, I am loving this collection!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

Too funny, I SO went to the About page!

    • Anonymous

I love the first three looks.

    • Anonymous

Like the jackets, love the boots–the black boots.  The Beatle boots.  Not the purple boots with the stacked heels, which are hiddy.  Low boots are like tuxedos for men:  Straight men, who insist that their whole lives and 90% of their energy are focused on making women want to sleep with them, can’t seem to understand that every man in the world looks good in a tux and (not at the same time) in low boots.  If they were really all about getting laid all the time, men would be wearing tuxes to work and would never put on a pair of jeans without boots.

    • Anonymous

OMG – I HATE those shoes.  Please don’t let them come back in.  I agree with TLo on the low-rise pants.  Uncomfortable and unflattering.  No.

    • http://twitter.com/TheScottFinley Scott Finley

Tom, that one (row 3, look 1) is the one I’d get as well, although I love them all.  I’d most certainly wear some of these looks next fall. I can do without the drop-crotch, though. That has to be the ugliest/most unflattering trend that designers have been trying to make happen for the past few years and it just needs to go the fuck away.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GQIN74TNNQROY5JFPOWWBGJWEM andy

The suits are divine, but those boots scream douchebag, with a capital D. Shudder.

    • Anonymous

My overwhelming reaction is that NO ONE will wear those first two rows.

But I am in love with the purple shoes and I want to fuck someone right after he takes them off.

    • Anonymous

I’m 6’2″ and would totally wear those boots.

    • Anonymous

*Maybe* the top right, but that’s it for me. Third row middle guy looks like he has a shrunken head.

    • Anonymous

tom:  as you are so tall and are shaped like a self-described brick, i wouldn’t recommend that first look in row 3.  it’s too short and fitted, it would look skimpy on your abundant manhood.  you should go for looks 2 and 3 in the same row.  also pick up the second suit jacket in the top  row, while you’re at it.

lo:  as long as he’s playing purple rain, you should put on those purple boots and dance for him.  and pick up the other two styles as well.

    • Anonymous

The kid in the fourth row, middle picture went to high school with me. hahaha, never thought I’d recognize someone on TLo.
