VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul – Stage

Posted on December 20, 2011

T Lo just can’t stop celebrating VH1′s Divas Celebrates Soul, darlings. Let’s all judge what the self-proclaimed divas wore on stage, shall we?

Mary J. Blige

Okay, maybe that last outfit’s not quite as friendly to her as she hoped, but she doesn’t need us telling her what to do. She knows how to bring it.

We were totally right about that tone-on-tone/red suede pump paired with a red dress micro-trend, weren’t we? Back pats.

Jennifer Hudson
The Blonds Dress

Dolce & Gabbana Dress

The Blonds Dress

Love the first gown on her, but man, the mermaid hair trend can’t die soon enough. We hate it in almost any case, but when there’s an egregious overuse of extensions and hair pieces to complete the effect, we really hate it. The Dolce & Gabbana dress is cute. The color looks great on her. We’re not too sold on the party fringe, though. And while it’s true; love really IS a battlefield, let’s, for her sake, never speak of that last dress again. Erase.

Kelly Clarkson

We’re just going to go with the assumption that she was sitting around smoking a joint with her gay when she said, “Dude, I challenge you to find me the ugliest, least flattering, worse-suited dress for me for this Divas shit they’ve got me doing,” and then collapsed into peals of laughter, never realizing that her gay was taking her seriously.

Jessie J

Mark Fast Dress

Let’s give her a hand, folks. Crazy stagewear warms our cockles. She looks a bit like a parade float in the first one and the second one only needs bunny slippers to complete the pajamas feel of it.

Florence Welch
Naeem Khan Gown

Emilio Pucci Dress

Oh good. We were a bit worried after we saw what she wore on the red carpet. These looks represent a return to form. We like the Naeem Khan the least on her just because the color and shape aren’t very dramatic for the stage. But the next two look great; especially the Pucci.

Still hate the hair, though. Flo, change that shit.

Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah

Ooh, Queen Latifah shows the others how it’s done.  Flawless.

Some day, when Florence Welch is right smack-dab in her mid-forties, she’s going to look in the mirror and say to herself, “I look just like I did when I was in my 20′s”  only it’s not going to be a good thing, because she looks like she’s already in her mid 40′s.  Flo, enjoy being and looking young while you ARE young!  You’ve got a lifetime ahead of you to look old.

    • Anonymous

      She’s in her TWENTIES?!?!?!?!

      Mind=blown.

      • RocknLox

        Florence Welch is Benjamin Button.

      • Anonymous

I thought she was mid-30s for sure.  Wow.  Does she hang out a lot with Ryan Seacrest’s girlfriend?

      Noooooooooo! Twenties? Not good.

    • BerlinerNYC

That’s if she makes it to her 40s. Preraphaelite ladies like Ophelia and the Lady of Shallot don’t tend to have very long life spans… :-(

TOTALLY AGREE!!!  Her weird obsession with the very serious gowns is so ageing, as is the hair.  I suspect secretly she would look great in a pair of jeans and a great jacket with some loose hair.  BE YOUNG…..

      • Anonymous

The hair in particular. She has sharp features and that hair is doing nothing to bring out the best in them.
That’s classic I give up hair.

    • Ebony Dawkins

Everytime I see her, I think the same thing. I read in Vogue that she’s 25! There is no way she’s in her 20s – her FACE reads 45+. It has nothing to do with hair, make up or dress, she is a wrinkly, haggard looking 25 year old lady. I mean, I just called her a lady and not a woman. She’s super not-25 looking.

  • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I just want to give Kelly Clarkson a cookie and a stern talking to about her wardrobe every time I see her!  Is she secretly a vampire?  Has anyone seen her in daylight recently?  Because not having a reflection is the only explanation I can come up with for her recent wardrobe choices….

    • Anonymous

I dunno, I somehow find it endearing at this point. She is so good at not being A Famous Person–which I appreciate!–that I guess I see this as part of it?

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I find her quite endearing, hence why there would have to be cookies for our little chat instead of a whacking stick.  But she is such a sweet and lovely girl that it pains me to see her do this to herself.

    • Ebony Dawkins

I love Kelly C.’s voice, but I want to love her appearance as well. She needs to hit a 24 hour fitness with the quickness…and some frequency.

Kindly keep your comments to fashion & style. Body snarking is rude.

  • MilaXX

Loved MJB, girl can bring it.
JHud in that last dress was just a hot mess.
I’mma cut Kelly a break on the fugly clothes. Girlfriend was sick & had a broken ankle and still performed.
Jessie J looks like a muppet chicken
I like the first dress Flo is wearing, but the black along with that bad hair/makeup makes her looks like an early stage zombie.
Dolly & Queen Latifah have a movie coming out. I cannot wait for the pole dancing that will accompany that.

    • foodycat

If she’s a diva worthy of the name, Kelly would have said “I have a broken ankle, get me sensible shoes” and many people would have leaped to her bidding. Dressing like that on a broken ankle just makes you a good little trooper.

      • MilaXX

agreed, she should have gotten a better dress and a throne like Jessie J had when she broke her foot.

        • Anonymous

WORD. Apparently Jessie J can’t wear heels at all now because of the foot injury, so what does she do? She runs around in flats and crazy jumpsuits. I appreciate that kind of attitude.

    • Cathy S

Wait–Dolly and Latifah are in a movie? Together? Ooh, off to Google!

      • MilaXX

        Joyful Noise
It looks awful. Like ABC family bad.

          “Like ABC family bad.”

          Oooo, that’s bad.

See, the thing about the Queen is that she makes it look effortless.  Like she rolled out of bed that morning, sprayed her hair, put on some earrings and sashayed on to that stage.  And that kind of loook will win every single time.

I can’t see the marionette strings on Little Dolly Parton.  They’ve done a good job hiding them!

Mary J. Blige can do no wrong musically, but once again, why are we wearing a dress with a bodice that flattens the girls like an Ace bandage?  This must stop.

Love Jennifer Hudson’s dress by The Blonds.  THAT is a holiday dress!

    • Anonymous

That The Blonds dress is super cut on her.  And agreed about Queen.  But then again, I secretly worship at the altar of Dana….

      • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

Whew, I was afraid I’d be the only one who thought The Blonds dress was FIERCE.

  • Terence Ng

I like QL’s dress more when it appears navy blue instead of the lighter color in different lighting. Gorgeous.

  • foodycat

“Divas in the motherfucking house. All y’all other bitches can just go home now.” – Jessie J doesn’t deserve to be mentioned in the same post!

    • Anonymous

Yea, I was wondering.  I mean, she can sing (certainly better than Katy), but she’s had one song in the US (that I’m aware of) and I’m not sure it’s charted.  Maybe she’s a diva across the pond, but isn’t this supposed to be divas in America?  I mean, can you be named a diva just a few months after you are the house band at the MTV Music Awards?

      • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

No. No you cannot be named a diva just a few months after…. anything. You need to earn that moniker. Kelly hasn’t earned it, and neither has Jennifer. It takes many years. (Obviously, I have rules. :-) It took me a long time before I accepted using “diva” outside the opera world. I’ve given up on that fight, but not just any female singer who pops up on the radar gets the title of Diva. It’s like calling Blake Lively a fashion icon)

        • Jacqueline Wessel

          Yes, thank you, totally agree.

        • Anonymous

Florence, but not Kelly? How many years are you using for your definition? (Legitimately curious, not being pissy.)

PS all rules aside–and I totally respect that you have them–from their point of view, they’re putting on a television show. They need “current” people to draw viewers.

          • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I didn’t think about Florence until after I posted that comment. I’d say no. I don’t know much about her, but she’s fairly new to the music scene, isn’t she? When I think of a diva, I think of Diana Ross (ugh, but she fits it), Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton, Barbra Streisand – women who have been around for a long time and really proven themselves. I think Jennifer Lopez fits the bill because she has the attitude, but I also think that the word has been diluted a lot since it was adopted by pop music. When it was strictly an opera term, it truly meant something, and it bugs me that it’s thrown around the way it is. I’m a word geek. I can’t help it.

I didn’t think about the TV show angle, but you’re right. I don’t have a clue who Jessie J is. Maybe she has the makings of a pop diva. I can’t say. But her outfit is cracking me up.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

So is it more about the attitude, or the voice?  I have a hard time giving it to Jennifer Lopez just because she has a diva attitude, because her voice is just so-so.  I’m not a fan of Christina Aguilera’s, but at least she has the voice to back it up.

          • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

It’s subjective, of course. There’s “diva” that refers to great talent and “diva” that refers to attitude. Here’s a good definition and discussion of the word:
            http://tinyurl.com/cccdc74

I still believe, in general, it’s a moniker that has to be earned by
many years of work, although there’s always been the implication that a
diva was temperamental and considered herself to be queenlike. But
originally it was about talent and… charisma, maybe?

          • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

          • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

And I meant to say that your point about Jennifer Lopez is taken. She’s not much of a singer. She should have stuck to making movies (I mean good movies, i.e. Out of Sight). But she’s a perfect example of “diva as temperamental, charismatic star”. On the other hand, her star had fallen considerably, then American Idol came along and she’s back on top. The marriage to and divorce from Marc Anthony has made her sympathetic for a lot of people. More than once I’ve seen her compared to Elizabeth Taylor. That might be overstepping it (at the moment, it sure as hell is), but JLo still has some time to get married and divorced a few more times, have another career crash and recovery, break up a marriage or two, etc. The woman has star power, and that’s definitely part of being a diva.

I am thinking about this way too much. :-)

          • Anonymous

Totally agree! I feel the same about the word “icon.” Seems like that word is thrown around a lot too.

          • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

Yep. The overuse of “Icon” sends me into as much of a tizzy as “diva” does.

        • Anonymous

Yeah, I don’t get the diva label after 1 album or 1 song.  It’s got to be earned.  Totally with you on this.

      • foodycat

I’m in the UK and I’m not really aware of Jessie J, so she doesn’t get to be a diva here either!

  • Anonymous

Kelly, Kelly, Kelly…..I weep with the way you dress.  Queen Latifah is the bomb.  ALWAYS classy.

  • Anonymous

Kelly Clarkson’s gays should have thrown some sequins and shit on that cankle-wrap. Then I might have been impressed.

    • Sobaika Mirza

I think Jessie J did that at the VMAs! She has a spangled cast and performed sitting down in a chair the entire night.

  • Anonymous

i like flo’s hair b/c it completes the “art deco woman” look she’s going for with ceremonials.  the look suits her to a T, as flo totally looks like a hybrid between clara bow and louise brooks (i’m talking strictly facial structure here).  her somewhere between combed out finger waves / wavy pincurls / soft victory curls are KILLING ME, especially with all her architectural outfits.

    flo, don’t change a thing, darling.  ;)

A-men kaycem, though when I look at Florence Welch here I’m seeing Pola Negri, with red hair.  The hair is a bit severe (could do with a softer shape), but I like the stage clothes.  The white outfit she wore for the red carpet simply washed her out.

Queen Latifa is just absolutely AMAZING.  She just screams “Take THAT you size zero bitches!”

I like Kelly Clarkson’s elastic ankle bandage! Bet that starts a trend.

  • Anna Maria Diamanti

Love Jessie J’s first outfit. Stagewear should be over the top, crazy fun.

JHud is so skinny now, why does that first dress make her look so big??? Look at the side view–she looks the way she did before she lost all the weight. And what the third dress does to her hips is downright freakish.

Love Mary J. Blige and f-ing love her in white. She needn’t bother with any other color.

  • Anonymous

Maybe it’s just me, but I find looking a Florence Welch just makes me feel drowsy. Jessie J, on the other hand…bless that tassle peacock of crazy.

  • Anonymous

I don’t know, I’m not loving any of Florence’s looks, especially the last one. And the dark lipstick may not be her friend IMO.

    Queen Latifah looks great.

And Jessie J ain’t no diva.

  • Anonymous

Love May J’s first. That is a white moment.

J Hud’s last attempt of a dress is HORRIBLE and an inexcusable copy of Beyonce’s stagewear, which are already bad enough IMO.
    Is Florence depressed?

I actually love that color on Kelly.
As for MJB, you know why I love her?  I roll in from the bar a few Friday nights ago, and there she is, on HSN, singing her ass off LIVE, for her new fragrance.  I mean, SINGING HER ASS OFF, no phoning that sh*t in.  On HSN.  Oh Mary Jane, girl, I love you.  And white IS your color.

    I love Dolly!

  • Anonymous

Kelly’s head and hair are great.  That dress needs to die.  Kelly’s got curves, she needs to own them.

QL is fierce.  Dolly is the sh*t.  She owns that redneck Barbie look.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Exactly!  Kelly is a beautiful girl with a perfectly nice body.  Why she insists in packaging it in the worst possible garments for her is beyond me!

      • Anonymous

Plus if you know you are going to take the stage with Mary J Blige looking radiant in white and Jennifer Hudson sparkling in multicolored sequins, why do you opt for that?

        • Mary McClelland

Kelly has always seemed like a person who is afraid of fashion. She just always veers towards safe or comfortable. I think her dress is ooookaaay, but yes it looks like David’s Bridal Bridesmaid.

          • Anonymous

She strikes me as someone who is just not that much into clothes.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

If I kept seeing pictures of myself like that, I’d be scared too!

There are safe, comfortable clothes that would suit her — I’m not looking for her to thrill the fashion community with her clothes.  I just want her to wear things that are right for her!

          • Anonymous

I get that, but the color is so blend-in-to-the-background. Not I am DIVA!

  • Anonymous

    Queen Latifah for the win!

Jessie looks like she’s going to start speedskating.

All due respect, I love the mermaid gown on Jennifer.  The dots make “gown” into “fun.”

  • Anonymous

Kelly Clarkson’s dress is totally fine–for going to her cousin’s semi-formal wedding. I like the color. It’s just not a diva’s stage dress.

    • Anonymous

I was thinking the same… Definitely not a diva dress, but she looks so much cuter than usual that I don’t mind very much. Its funny, she’s *done* some great diva dresses, so its not like she isn’t capable, I guess she just didn’t care?

Side note, I think comma’s & I need to go on break.

Hudson – it does not make you look smaller or sexier to have that much pushed together cleavage, it makes you look fatter – which you are not.

I think Queen Latifah has achieved perfect gorgeousness.  There is nothing that could improve on how beautiful she is.  Everyone else here needs an intervention – Florence for the hair, JHud for the red dress, Jessie J for whatever the hell she is, MaryJB those leather pants – where are the stylists when we need them?

    • Marie Drucker

Totally agree. Queen Latifah looks soooo beautiful.

    • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I can’t really argue with you about Mary J’s leather pants. They’re kind of ridiculous, and she’s almost as crammed into them as Kelly is into that dress. But I think she pulls off that look because she’s Mary J and she owns it. She exudes confidence. Woman’s been through some crap and come out the other side for the better. I think she’s one of those women who can wear whatever she wants, because she doesn’t care what anyone has to say about it.

I totally agree with you about Queen Latifah. That skin! That face! That perfectly dressed body! She’s never been tiny, and she looks better in a pair of jeans that a lot of fashion models. I used to watch her show, Living Single (don’t judge me. That show was hilarious), and marvel at how well her jeans fit. I think I had a little girl crush on her.

I love the shape of Mary J’s white dress, but it’s too tight (her poor boobs!) and, dare I say it, the fabric looks cheap.  I’m sure it’s note, but on my screen it looks like spandex.

JHud’s 3rd dress just leaves me in awe at the wonder of corseting.

Kelly, if you have to have your ankle wrapped, why not come up with a divalicious outfit with pants?

I hate Dolly’s feather skirt, but the detail around her waist is pretty.

Someone save Kelly C. Please! She could look so good with those gorgeous curves so why does she keep dressing in such horrible outfits? Why?

  • Anonymous

Flo and Dolly and Queen FTW.  Seriously, Latifah needs to teach a class (or her gay does) on how we big girls can look sexy in FLATTERING evening wear.  She almost always looks spectacular.

And Jessie J (who the F is she???)…well, did anyone else look at that second outfit and remember the Spiderman-looking shit the Olympic skiiers wore a few years back?

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

The most important thing for looking good at larger sizes is honesty.  Don’t try to tell yourself that you’re a specific size or that you can wear a certain silhouette.  That’s true at any size, but larger women tend to have more of a problem with it in my experience.  Because either they think they should be smaller, so they don’t want to go up a size, or they think they need to have big girl pride and so can wear anything because there’s nothing wrong with their bodies.  While that is true, they take it a step to far in a lot of cases and want to prove they can wear ANYTHING, and no one can wear every silhouette — I, for instance, can not pull off a floor length sheath because I am short and very curvy and it makes me look dumpy.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=583505025 Kelley Comfort

What did Kelly do to her ankle?!? I really think a long gown would have been better for her. I really like her, so lately all her disasters in fashion give me the sads. She really needs someone to help her dress better.

That Pucci dress that Florence Welch is wearing needs to get in my closet right now. Love it! And I have just the holiday party to wear it to…..

  • Anonymous

I want that Pucci dress in my closet like, yesterday. Also, her legs and waistline. I’ve been a good girl, Santa; pretty please?

Actually, given Clarkson’s sartorial disasters in the past, that dress represents a win for her, awful as it is. I can’t decide if she should have gone with something floor-length to hide the ankle bandage, or if I love her for clearly not giving a fuck.

  • Mary McClelland

God, Dolly and Latifah. I just swooned. Where is freaking Aretha to complete or Loretta or CHER! Loves.

Back to the clothes. I love Mary J. She is so chic while being over the top and fantastic. She needs to take J Huds under her wing. I love the sparkles on the first dress and I think the pink D&G is v. cute, but the last THING. WHAT ON EARTH?!?!? Oh lord…

Moving on… Flo that hair as got to go and get some invisiline too. Her teeth look tortured to me.

Finally, I don’t think Kelly’s dress is that bad. I mean the color is abysmal, but the shape doesn’t bother me and it’s definitely a step up from the pagent gowns or schmattas she usually dons.

Florence is well on her way to being a true Diva in the Carly Simon mold.  As opposed to the Tina Turner mold.  Subdued Influence, I’ll call it.

This one’s easy. Queen Latifah FTW. It’s no contest. (And I’m obsessing over that chain-link neckline.)

Who the hell is Jessie J?

  • http://karensbooksandchocolate.blogspot.com/ Karenlibrarian

I’m bowing down before Queen Latifah!

  • Anonymous

Is Florence Welch a tranny? I’m not joking.

  • http://twitter.com/anacedillo Ana Cedillo

my recap: kelly clarkson looks sooo awful. what happened to this girl, not even just the dress, she doesnt look her age or like a “diva” at all!
and flo, not a fan of her but she actually looks quiet good in that first dress, not so pale.jessie j uhhhh no comment, trying too hard.

  • Anonymous

Who the fuck is Jessie J? She is not a diva in any sense of the word. Please go away.

  • Anonymous

Queen Latifah – now THAT is how Jessye Norman realness is served. Drink it up, bitches.

  • Anonymous

can we please stop trying to make this Jessie creature happen…we are saturated in this market.

  • Anonymous

Jeeze, so some of you don’t know Jessie J… she’s been around a few years as a songwriter and as a singer for a couple and has had a lot of success here. Presumably she’s now trying to match her writing success in the US with her her own singing. She’s not my cup of tea musically, and I wouldn’t say she ranks as a diva (yet) but she’s likely to be around for a while. I do like her sense of humour with her stage-wear though.

Flo – so many people said she should do something different with her hair. She has, it hasn’t worked. She suits it better the way she was wearing it before. Love the long coat dress, not so keen on the Pucci.
Much as I like what the Blonds do, that dress isn’t doing Jennifer Hudson any favours. A bit more thigh coverage and losing the drapey bits on the hips would’ve made it a lot more flattering.

I don’t have anything much to say on the others. Queen Latifah looks fabulous, Dolly looks like Dolly.

I’ve never heard of Jessie J until recently, but I approve.  I kinda like the totally insane clothes she’s got going here and in the other post of their red carpet wear.

She doesn’t take herself too seriously. It’s no surprise she’s mates with Adele.

jessie j i think is the program creators’ attempt to stay relevant to the youths of this minute, right alongside florence welch. even i like FW better, believe it or not; however, i do like JJ’s work w/ fringe. or maybe i just like fringe. the pajamas, nah. i dont know what she sounds like, nor do i care. i wonder if anyone will still know who she is in five years. either of them, actually, cos the world moves oh so so fast these days. generations are over in two years. well, we will see. or maybe you will & i wont, i may well have left by then.

really like the size discrepancy in the last couple. i just think it’s funny. i wish there were more size discrepancies in the televisual world, actually, & each one of the sizes given equal respect. as here.

i wonder if kelly clarkson wears these things on purpose. in truth she has looked much worse than this. the hair, maybe, is less attractive than even the shape of the dress. but isnt part of her shtick being the one who doesnt look all that great & doesnt care that she doesnt look all that great, an everywoman for the rest of us, the rest of them? something like that. anyway, i think today’s look is just all of a piece. just that.

i actually like jennifer hudson’s benatar dress, though probably what i like is the corset. i’m thinking that, just like the rest of us, all of us, she may have put on five pounds. i feel bad for her but it’s gonna happen, it’s genetic, no matter how hard she works at it, it’s gonna go up & down. i wish it wasnt. for her, for me, for kelly clarkson, for the last pair of persons sans surgery. it’s just the way it is.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

As an everywoman, she should do a better job looking great — it doesn’t do women any favors to present a normal body in unflattering clothes;  it only encourages women to think that if they have bodies that aren’t the Hollywood standard, they don’t look good.

  • Call me Bee

Squeee!  Queen Latifah just brings it, as does Dolly.  Flo and Jen look great.   I don’t know who Jessie J is, but that is some cray-cray sh*t.  But then–what better venue to just let loose?

  • http://www.facebook.com/samuel.j.donovan Samuel Joesph Donovan

I think Kelly Clarkson looks pretty amazing, honestly.

  • Anonymous

Still love Dolly Parton, the original country diva–chip and proud as hell to be so.

  • Anonymous

That third…thing…that Jennifer Hudson wore–yikes. Words fail me.
Kelly Clarkson always looks like such a mess. I love her for that.
Florence Welch looks like she was dressed to receive her Lifetime Achievement Award. Does she KNOW she’s in her twenties?
Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah. ‘Nuff said.

  • http://liptonrm.livejournal.com/ Lipton

Has anyone else seen that trailer for the Dolly Parton-Queen Latifah movie? They really pushed all of the OTT bitchy diva-ness that these gals have going for them. That plus the picture up there makes it official, we mere mortals must bow down before their fierceness.

  • http://twitter.com/tasdj Tiffany

Sheesh, so much hate on Jessie J by people who haven’t even looked her up.

    • Anonymous

Tried to be famous, flopped in the states, record company bought her a spot on SNL and no one cared.  Anything else we should know?  Songwriter, yes-singer-NO.

      • http://twitter.com/tasdj Tiffany

I think she’s a pretty good singer; good set of pipes. I never did get why record companies always make artists who are big in the UK release different singles when trying to break into the US. I wouldn’t say she’s flopped in the states since “Price Tag” went platinum in the US reaching #23 on the Billboard charts, and “Domino” is at #28 currently. That’s better than Florence + the Machine’s singles performances, and I wouldn’t say Florence is a flop either.

Dolly Parton…she’s the only one that can proclaim “It takes a lot of money to look this cheap” and still have my undying love and devotion.  In my next life I want Dolly to be my crazy-loveable aunt and T & Lo to be my gay uncles that chastise me when I look like shit (which would be quite often, I’m afraid).

  • Tamara Hogan

So nice to see Florence Welch wearing something other than her usual shade of milquetoast beige that someone, somewhere, mistakenly told her was flattering. Bust out some jewel tones, Flo!

Whoever dresses Queen Latifah deserves a COngressional Medal of Honor, an Oscar, a Nobel prize and a big chunk of cash.  RARELY does she look anything but sleek, sophistacted and regal.  And that isn’t always the easiest task on a more statuesque woman.  She looks amazing here.  Dolly looks fantastic as well, still “Dolly” but done really tastefully.  I just don’t get Florence Welch style at all.  She seems obsessed with SERIOUS DRESSES and I’m not sure the are her real style.  And that hair is awful.  I’m pretty sure jennifer Hudson stole that last dress from Christina…..

    • Anonymous

Oh, and I just can’t go there with Ms. Clarkson……

  • Erin Nice

Queen Latifah always looks so gorgeous. She exudes such a happy confidence. Mary J. Blige is always fierce – I especially love that white gown on her. I will always love Dolly. She’s adorable.

Jennifer Hudson’s third dress is KILLING me, because I actually love those colors against her skin tone.  If only the dress weren’t such a disaster in pretty much every other respect…

  • Anonymous

The first dress on Jennifer Hudson is TO DIE. Also love Queen Latifah’s dress. She (or her stylist) really knows how to dress for her body.

  • Anonymous

Agree with all that we should bow down to the Queen. She looks fabulous irrespective of size.

Have to say I continue my love for Flo; she’s so statuesque. I do wish she’d go back to the bangs though; they were much more flattering to her face. Don’t understand why everyone thinks she looks old; I think she looks understated, classy and beautiful. I would rather look at her in that Pucci dress with those shoes than most of the other dreck that’s out there any day of the week. Gorge!

  • Anonymous

I had to google old pictures of Dolly because I found that I had forgotten what she used to look like back in the day.
However, I bow down. She can do no wrong.
I love that first dress on Jennifer Hudson. And that’s all I have to say about that. >Forrest Gump
Queen Latifah. Now there’s a larger woman who always dresses in beatuiful dresses that flatter her and make her look elegant. She looks gorgeous.

Dear Santa: Please bring me the Florence’s Gucci for Christmas.  I’ve been sort of good.

    “Give it to ‘em Queen!
    (Who got it?)
    Give it to ‘em Queen!
    (Latifah)
    Give it to ‘em Queen!
    (Who got it?)
    Queen L.A.T.I.F.A.H. in command!”

  • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

Queen Latifah looks *incredible* in that gown!

  • Anonymous

Kelly Clarkson’s entire right leg looks bigger than her left leg, like it is swollen. What happened? I can see that ankle is bandaged.

  • leilah

Jessie J, here are the rules for stagewear:  flat ass – yes, lots of fringe; flat ass – no, never, ever wear a catsuit or any other form-fitting garb.

And while I aDORE Dolly and the Queen, I can’t help think that Tif could completely hide Dolly under that gown — and, at most, create only some confusion about the possibility of a “baby bump”….

  • Anonymous

Dolly and Queen–wow and wow.  Queen Dana is so elegant and Dolly so not–both so great.  Florence Welch looks great too but I miss her bangs.  The severity worked on her.

  • Mariah J

It seems to me that Mary J. Blige is the last real diva. We might as well celebrate the true aging divas that are still alive and when they all die cancel that shit.

  • http://profiles.google.com/mercbubble42 Jessica O’Connell

LOVE the top of Queen Latifah’s dress.

  • oohsparkley!

I love Queen Latifah!  She really knows how to dress herself.  I think Kelly looks better than she usually does and looks like she might have lost a little weight.  Love Florence and really think she looks great in that Pucci.  The red blonds dress on Jennifer is baaad – a Beyonce halloween costume.  Dolly is Dolly and God Bless her.

  • Anonymous

Florence’s dresses go perfectly with her crappy flat voice that can’t hold a note. It’s as if her gay said, “Let’s dress you like you sound.”
