Jason Wu Pre-Fall 2012 Collection

Posted on December 07, 2011

Jason Wu Pre-Fall 2012 Collection Jason Wu took his inspiration from the Maharaja and the fun wildlife illustrations of Charley Harper.  He described it as the “regal” collection, which is, we suppose where the Maharaja part comes in. We love the color palette here; the rich oranges, blues and greens, especially. There are times when it seems things get a little too severe, but we the details and craftsmanship are amazing. Love the embroidery and beaded houndstooth. The coats are all fantastically chic, but only a few of the gowns stand out, which is to be a little expected for pre-fall, which has a greater focus on daywear and separates. But that black gown with the embroidered red flowers is a stunner. That’s got Anne Hathaway written all over it.

I’ll take one of everything, please. I LOVE this collection, especially all of the looks before entering into gown territory.

Same here! AND it would all look good on me! Hurrah!

…you know, except that I can’t afford even one piece.

        • Anonymous

We should all band together and buy one piece and take turns wearing it to the grocery store and other glamorous events.

YES. Practically all these looks are elegant and modern. I’m even into the shoes, purses and leather gloves shown here. If I were a red carpet regular, this collection would convince me to put Jason Wu at the top of my list of go-to designers.
As it is, I’ll just stalk JW pieces at consignment stores!

India must have been a big inspiration this season. Chanel’s is Bombay themed.

And I just saw an interactive journey to India on Louis Vuitton’s website!

Shelley O could rock some of these looks.  I’d love to see her in row 2 middle dress.

      • Anonymous

I thought the same thing, but different dress — the long green one on the right, third up from the bottom.

      • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Stacy, don’t give my dress to Shelley. It’s mine!

      • Anonymous

I thought that, too!  I saw her in the final blue gown immediately, but the whole collection looks up her alley.

      very nice

    • Anonymous

Very nice, but the blue slack picture in the second to the last row? I see Marilyn Manson.

      • Anonymous

It doesn’t help that the model is styled to look just like him…kinda creepy.

      • http://www.facebook.com/amy.ennis Amy LeBaron Ennis

I was thinking Manson too. I love him, though, so that was meant as a compliment.

I like Jason Wu. There are lots of really smart-looking, wearable pieces here.

The first couple blocks of clothing make me miss Mad Men…

I know I’m clueless, but if this collection were on Project Runway, wouldn’t it be criticized for lack of cohesion?

    • http://twitter.com/aidanboleyn Aidan B

      Oh my. I covet.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=691569288 Christopher Coyle

I am gagging for that caped coat in the first row, even in the camel color, which isn’t my thing!

Why the hell can’t men’s clothing be as adventurous?

    • http://www.facebook.com/jill.m.woods Jill Woods

Fabulous. How I wish I could afford to fill my closet with this entire collection!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Clydette-Wantland/673315286 Clydette Wantland

Awesome.  I’ll take one of each please.

Gorgeous.  Love this and the Oscar collections. So elegant.

    • foodycat

Love the skirt with the houndstooth panel down the front, and I want Swinton to wear the blue formal cigarette pants.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Matthew-Edward-Roberts/1395631307 Matthew Edward Roberts

the fabric in row two – wow, the shimmery blue greens – yummy, but that weird neckline for the gowns – three thumbs down for the three teardrops.

    • Terence Ng

The greens are gorgeous, like jewels in a dark forest.

    • Anonymous

So hard to see the dark clothes against the dark background in the underexposed images.  Gowns are dull (except for the yummy green print), there’s too much shiny, I am over houndstooth.  However, I would kill for any piece in those first six looks.

    • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

I don’t love all of it, but there are some very wearable day pieces in there, and I love that last blue gown.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I’ll take the dress in the second row in the middle. That’s about it.

    • Anonymous

Oooh, lots to love here.  I think my favorite is the ensemble with the teal skirt.  I like that the skirts are of a length I could actually wear in the workplace.

    • Anonymous

That navy dress with the plaid insert should be in my closet right now along with a great many of the other pieces. Love, love the colors.

    • Anonymous

A lot of this is my aesthetic, down to the colors and patterns, particularly the 2nd and 3rd row of pictures.

I love this in the “I would wear that” way.

    • CQAussie

I love the geometric sleeveless dress, it is right up my alley.  The whole collection is beautiful, well done.  I vote for Shelley O wearing the plunging neckline blue dress at the end if Obama gets elected again =D

January 20, 2013 is calling, Mrs. O. It wants you to wear this dress.

    • Judy_J

      Love the graphic prints.

      Gorgeous!

      Dear Santa,

Please make me rich and thin and drop the first three rows of this collection in my wardrobe.  I’ve been a very good girl, and when I havent’ been good I’ve at least tried to be interesting.

And bring my son some superheroes.  He’s all about capes these days, although not wool ones.

      Merry Christmas

please, please, please someone get SWINTON into that last pantsuit. now.

love this- would wear nearly every piece.  impeccable tailoring.

    • http://twitter.com/omg_dora Dora K.

As always, I’m thrown off by how skeletal the models are — in a “I’d like to be able to appreciate these clothes” way, not a “let’s discuss the politics of body image” way. But I’m not the target audience, so whatever. I’ll wait for the Anne Hathaway red carpet post.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Wow, there are literally looks in this collection that I would kill for and looks that I detest. That doesn’t usually happen with me. The hounstooth panels je deteste. The fur collar on the coat looks like my 3rd grade parka but uglier. But looks 5, 7 and 9 – that windowpane coat – and yeah, the entire last three rows. Good stuff.

      Covet. So. Hard.

    • Wendy Shieu

wow, I LOVE this collection to pieces.

    • Anonymous

For the most part I’m liking this sleek, pretty collection. Loving the colors.

Charley  Harper? really? I’d have to see the clothing closer up. agree totally about Anne Hathaway and the black/red gowns.

    • MilaXX

NIce! I like pretty much everything here. I especially like that print in the second row.

    • Anonymous

Some odd shape choices here. One has a giant arrow pointing to her head, another to a space between her knees. But love those gowns!

    • Anonymous

Looks more like a winter holiday collection. Very very pretty .

    • Presumptuous Insect

      No, just no.

    • Anonymous

i see the charley harper in the shapes & especially the colors, i just wish he’d have put the animals on them too.
      elsewise it’s very nice.

    • Anonymous

My closet is crying out for the middle dress, second row; left dress, fifth row. That’s my silhouette, right there.

    • Anonymous

I fucking hate that green.  I HATE “Jewel Tones” omg does NO ONE REMEMBER THE HORRID “JEWEL TONE” YEARS OF THE 1980’s?   If I am only given these kinds of horrid primary colors to wear in the next few years, I’m making myself a muslin snugee and never going outside again.

      • Anonymous

LOL Even though I loved this collection and the colors, I’m hitting “like” because you are so entertaining and vehement in your dislike. So funny. (Meant that as a compliment, not as snark.)

        • Anonymous

Thank you Anathema, you always support me in by bilious rage.  This is why I adore you.  xoxoo

    • http://twitter.com/capt_shiny Mags

Omg, that orange dress is GORGEOUS!

    • Anonymous

Huh. I like the idea of every single piece. Somehow I feel like the models seem to look weirdly clunky and awkward and unflattered in a lot of the shots, which is saying something, since they’ve all clearly been digitally manipulated beyond even my ability to ignore (and I am good at forgetting to even look for that shit).

So, it’s sort of hard for me to really get behind this collection, even though in theory I like just about everything.

    • Anonymous

      Perfection!

Really cool!  I love the faux sweeheart houndstooth number.  Great colours!

While I am panting for the day that asymmetrical hems disappear forever, I love this collection.  Especially the color palette and the prints, with their nod to the genius of Charley Harper.  Jason Wu has managed to mix classic fabrics and cut with a modern sensibility, and the result is charming.

      • Anonymous

And sadly, that mullet hem we’ve seen other places (most prominently in the PR finale) is EVERYWHERE! It has trickled down to us plebeians, so brace yourself for that one, too.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=583505025 Kelley Comfort

The SHOES! I want them all! And the majority of the separates. And the coats. Ah, just give me the whole collection!

    • Anonymous

      Yes, please.

    • Anonymous

Orange and green are my two favorite colors, so I’ll take everything that features them, please. Those print dresses in the second row? LOVE!!!

    • Anonymous

LOVE this collection – every item works.

    • Anonymous

I must have the orange dress. Whom do I have to kill?

    • Anonymous

SWOON!! Love it!!! So much!! And Dear Baby Jesus, please let opera gloves come back. And please let someone get me a pair of leather ones for Christmas.

    • Anonymous

As a collection it’s overwhelming, but I think if I saw each piece singly I would adore them.

    • Anonymous

Stunning! All except for the print in Row 2, photos 1 & 2 – all I can see is Frogger. But that’s my cultural influence: 1980s video games. Again, the rest is stunning! Love.

    • Anonymous

i truly hope to see shelly o. rock the orange in the first row (tho i’d bet she’ll as for a straight hem at that length), the printed sleeveless in the second row, and the beautifully royal blue evening gown with the handkerchief hem.  i’m not crazy about them in general, and she’s such a tall woman that they can be iffy, but if they get the proportions right for our first lady, she’d slay bitches in that dress.

    • Anonymous

      Love the houndstooth and print

Love the collection but HATE it when the same several faces have just been photoshopped onto random bodies over and over again. Their expressions do not vary.
