WERQ: Emma Watson in Elie Saab

Posted on December 09, 2011

Since the likelihood of us saying something really bitchy later today is, as always, quite high, let’s start the day on a positive note. We’ve ragged on Emma in the past for sometimes relying a bit too much on the precious, twee looks, but even we have to admit she’s built for them and she knows how to pull them off effectively. This dress is just gorgeous and you couldn’t find one better suited to her style.

Love it — and she doesn’t look angry for once!

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/QK3MTAHUVJCMI7DANY6WFCAIUM n a

agreed, but she should watch her face- she’s starting to look like the actress who plays “Charlotte” on Revenge.

    • M Carlson

I would have liked this more on her in the blue.

      • Anonymous

Pretty sure it is blue. The lighting in the runway show makes it look bluer than it is, I think.

    • Diana Martinez

Dress is gorgeous on her, but I’m not liking the lipstick.  Or maybe it’s the non-smile she’s got going on.

      • Anonymous

Agreed. The makeup is off here.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

And as she matures she is just getting more and more gorgeous.  Even in that shitty overly bright light she looks awesome.

      • Anonymous

        Yes indeed  —-

And how wonderful she looks with a teeny bit of additional flesh on her (see, Young Females of Hollywood, it’s nothing to be afraid of)!

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I may be Gay but I still appreciate beauty where it occurs and I think the overly thin look is kinda frightening, frankly.

          • Anonymous

As a plump middle aged woman can I just say how much I love you now?  xoxo

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Aww thanks!  I’m flattered and grateful.  As someone who has struggled all his life with weight issues, (things are currently under good control)  I have always has a strong feeling of support for those who don’t fit the dominant appearance paradigm.

    • Anonymous

They grow up so fast. Beautiful!

    • Anonymous

They are the same color, right? It’s just the drastically different lighting that’s making it look like two different colors, I believe.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

WERQ.  Love it, even the hair.

      • http://onebluetree.blogspot.com/ Sara L.

See, for me it was “especially the hair.” She looks amazing!

    • foodycat

Is the lipstick a little bit orange? Aside from that, I think this is gorgeous. And it is Hong Kong, so I am OK with the sandals. I’m sure she’ll be pleased that I approve.

      • foodycat

Actually, I’ve decided that the lipstick colour is OK, it’s the over-drawn top lip that is troubling me.

        • Anonymous

For me, it’s the feverish blush that’s not working.

Overall, it’s still a werq, though.  I LOVE the whole bodice of this dress, front and back!

      • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

It’s not a blue red, so in that regard, it’s a bit on the orange side. Not glaringly so, though, IMO. But, then, I prefer a warm red. I think it’s beautiful.

        • foodycat

You are right – it’s not the colour, it was the application that was standing out to me.

    • Anonymous

it’s a really pretty dress and it suits her so well. I wish the hair had been a bit more relaxed.

    • Anonymous

Is the lipstick too much? Or is it okay? I’m not sure. Everything else is lovely.

    • Anonymous

      Absolutely beautiful!

    • Annie Leung

Her lips are a little bright but she looks FABULOUS!

    • BerlinerNYC

I love how she manages to be simultaneously cute and “don’t fuck with me.”

Wish there were more pics of the cocktail ring. (Are those trending? There were some in that ridiculous Vogue shopping list this month.)

      • MilaXX

yes big cocktail rings have been trending for a minute.

    • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

      Awesome blossom! Extra awesome!

    • Anonymous

Elie Saab really does make lovely dresses… they manage to be sexy, demure and flattering all at the same time!

      • Anonymous

Agree!  I love Elie Saab, and this dress makes your point eloquently.

It’s a very unusual color, and it’s just perfection.  I do not love the boring shoes, but that’s a minor quibble. Emma looks fabulous.

      • Anonymous

Yup.  I am so in love with this collection.  Actually, with pretty much ever Elie Saab collection since 2009.

    • Anonymous

Very, very pretty, she looks great.  Put that dress on anyone over the age of 30 and it would look ridiculous without lengthing the skirt.

    • http://pleasewelcomeyourjudges.com/ Brian @ PWYJudges

She looks phenomenal. Love you, Hermione!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=527341315 Dani Chen

the makeup is a bit harsh, but love the dress on her

    • Anonymous

      Fabulous.

    • Anonymous

She’s very cute and that’s a great holiday dress but the lipstick is just way to harsh especially with the severe hair.

    • bloodshothalfblind

im looking for something not to like, but i cant find it.  she looks fantastic.  totally flawless.

    • Anonymous

The lipstick makes her almost unrecognizable and the amount of lacquer on her hair must surely present a health hazard, but she looks cute anyway.  The dress is great but Girl, wash your face and fluff up your hair.

    • Brad and Anne White

Gorgeous dress. The hairdo is getting old.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

The hairdo can’t really be changed that much — and won’t be able to until it grows out.

    • Anonymous

This dress is just gorgeous and you couldn’t find one better suited to her style.”  After I read this, I knew the shape of this dress before I scrolled down and saw it.

    • Anonymous

      This dress is simply adorable.

      What beautiful skin! I’m envious.

    • Anonymous

Perfection! Love her confidence most of all.

    • Anonymous

      That’s not a dress, it’s a ballet costume.

(yes, yes, she looks good, snaps, waves etc.)

    • Anonymous

Killer shoes too, she definitely is a WERQ

    • Anonymous

I like this and love the shoes with it.  They seem to de-twee it a bit.

    • MilaXX

I think I like it better on her than the model. WERQ it!

    • Judy_J

Love it, especially the back!  Definite WERQ.

    • http://twitter.com/KalisaHyman Kalisa Hyman

      I LOVE that on her!

    • Anonymous

Love that dress. The beading on the bodice is so lovely. Thanks for the close up. The shoes are killer, too: statement-making, but not focus-pulling.

Watson is working it for sure. Everything is balanced so well: sleek hair with feminine dress; sexy heels with borderline-twee dress; strong lip with soft eye makeup.

    • http://www.thatwasdramatic.tumblr.com/ Anya

That is one of the most beautiful dresses I’ve ever seen. I want it. And I’ll probably never have the opportunity to wear it (or money to buy it), but I don’t even care. It’s that gorgeous.

Emma always looks so gorgeous. As a (slightly obsessed, truth be told) Harry Potter fan, I just feel like a proud mama when I see photos like these.

      • Anonymous

Isn’t great that all three kids in those movies are really cool, decent, and level headed? That’s quite a feat when you consider the fame they encountered starting at age 11 or so.

        • http://www.thatwasdramatic.tumblr.com/ Anya

I’ve been lucky enough to meet both Emma and Rupert Grint (and a few other of the young HP cast members) and they’re all so sweet, genuinely nice people. Truly quite a feat that they all turned out so well – especially when we compare them with other child-stars (who didn’t have nearly as much fame and money as they did/do!).

        • Anonymous

Working with some really good people must’ve helped. The Potter films are loaded with very established, experienced actors known for stage as well as screen, rather than pure movie stars. And actors here tend to lead less starry lives than their Hollywood equivalents. Being surrounded by people at the peak of their profession who are also quite down to earth must’ve helped keep them grounded.

I can quite imagine Maggie Smith adminstering verbal clips round the ear to anyone getting precocious! :)

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=689960034 Marcella Cypher

I love the dress, but I can’t say I’m a fan of the plasti-hair.  Maybe something a little more…textured would have been better.  But I have to give her/her stylist props on a more original idea for it, at the least.

    • http://www.facebook.com/smpflueger Sean McArdle Pflueger

She looks better than the model.

    • Anonymous

Absolutely gorgeous. She needs to finish college already and start acting again – love her! I predict one day she will be a Maggie Smith or Dame Judy Dench level of actress. (With Helen Mirren style!)

    • Anonymous

I wish I could have worn something this cute.   Adorable.

    • Anonymous

As other bitter kittens have noted, better than the model. Lovely.

    • Anonymous

Snaps, indeed! She looks stunning and phenomenal.

    • Anonymous

She looks gorgeous, and that bustline takes the dress from precious to sexy. Even her collar bones look sexy!

    • Anonymous

7″ shorter in length and it’s a figure skating get up.

    • Anonymous

She does look amazing. Question, though, are Hollywood stars not allowed to wear earrings?

    • http://www.facebook.com/samuel.j.donovan Samuel Joesph Donovan

Okay, that dress couldn’t be more off-the-rack, Macy’s Prom if you TRIED.  What’s worse, that dress is navy, and it washes her out.  What navy dress washes ANYONE out?

T Lo smoking that Euro-designer crack, yet again.

    • http://iamthelizardqueen.wordpress.com Lizzie

(Woo hoo, the feed appears to be working again!!)

Love this look on Miss Emma.  Definitely gotta work that tulle while you can!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

      Great dress!

    • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

Gay-gasp-worthy. That dress is so beautiful it makes me want to cry. The whole look, from her head down to her toes, is perfect.

    • Anonymous

      flawless.

    • Anonymous

I love the back too.  What are those shoes?

    • Linde Hoff

Lovely — very appropriate for her!

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

While she looks fabulous in these type of looks, I can’t say I can think of too many looks she doesn’t look great in — she just knows how to wear clothes and commit to a look.  She’s one of the few actresses who understands that the red carpet requires them to act as well, to put that into their pictures.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Our Hermione has grown up!  She looks fabulous.  Hair and makeup are perfect, and the dress just suits her to a T.  Love her. Also, T and Lo, do you have a better pic of the ring she’s wearing? Looks fabulous!

    • Anonymous

I’m so over the gotta-pee pose. Just keep your knees together. It’s not that hard.

    • Sara__B

If you can’t wear twee but sexy dresses when you’re 21, when can you? This is a young celebrity I enjoy seeing on the red carpet, and I’m looking forward to watching her style change and mature over the years.

    • Anonymous

Anything where you look better than the model is a go.

    • http://twitter.com/yankeefoxtrot Alex McGeagh

Dress is cute but dang…that makeup, especially the lip, is SO severe for someone that age and in this outfit. Not fan :-/

    • Anonymous

wow, she’s stunning.  I love her style.

    • Anonymous

Really beautiful dress, and it looks wonderful on Emma. Better than on the model. Absolutely perfect.

    • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

Oooh, not a fan. I love the dress but I HATE the hair and make-up… Love HER though.

    • Kate Pearce

      Love it!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1326120071 Gaby Ripoll

The lighting is terrible, but she looks GREAT.

    • http://www.facebook.com/chloe.stabler Chloe Stabler

Alright, I need to start this off by saying I really hate her hair.  BUT with that aside, she looks fantastic.

    • Anonymous

Love the dress and shoes, she’s beautiful, but don’t think the gamine hair works here.  I actually don’t think it works well on her generally, boyish hair tends to work best with boyish figures which she doesn’t have. And with this dress she needs a bit of fullness  up top to balance out the fullness of the skirt. As it is she looks a bit pin-headed.

    • Anonymous

      Holy crap! WERQ!
      She’s so beautiful!

    • Anonymous

      Great dress. Love the neckline.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=717883898 Glynis Fediuk

One of the better WERQs I’ve seen in awhile. I don’t always like slicked hair but it really suits the look.

    • Anonymous

How do I get the job where I have to wear pretty clothes for Lancome Paris in Hong Kong?  That’s what I want to know.

    • Anonymous

Beautiful dress. Love it in the blue, less so in the black.

    • Anonymous

I’m pretty so-so on the tutu, but the top half, including the longer hair, is divine.

    • Anonymous

Oh yes, WERQ that pretty, little one.

    • Presumptuous Insect

Gawd, I don’t like that hair cut or style on her.

    • Anonymous

That hits a perfect note between teen dressing and grown-up and sexy. And although I’m not a fan of short hair, I like it here and the make-up as it balances out the dress. She looks great, best I’ve seen her I think.

    • Anonymous

      WERQ, indeed.

And I rarely think those very dark (black, navy, forest green, etc.) nail colors really work, but the dark toenails do here.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

      Snaps all around, IN.

      I want this dress.

    • Now I am The Bee

Wow–excellent.  The model look wasy more twee than Emma here.  I think the hair style and dark lips take it out of childlike territory and firmly in sophisticated.

Love it.  The open back and sheer bodice balances out the flower/tutu aspect that could take it too young.  Total werq!

WERQalicious. That dress was made with her in mind! Minor dislike of distracting shoes.

WERQ. She looks lovely and that closeup of her face is beautiful.

      WERQ!

    • Anonymous

What does she actually do these days?

    • Wrenaria

      She looks beautiful.

    • Anonymous

She reminds me of a young Laura Bennett with that makeup, dress and expression.

    • Anonymous

Two inches shorter, but yeah, WERQ’d.

    • Anonymous

Love it.  Like the model’s shoes better.  But she’s werqing it!

    • BuffaloBarbara

Cute dress, but it would look better if her hair didn’t look glued to her head.

    • Anonymous

This is perfection, head to toe. I LOVE her style!

    • leilah

Not only is Emma WERQin’ this frock (which, yes, would’ve been even better in blue), but Elie Saab should substitute Emma’s pic for that gangly, sadly-bored child, looking as if she wishes she were anywhere but on the catwalk….

    • http://blue-again.myopenid.com/ blue

Wow!! She looks fabulous! Only thing I’d change is the lipstick.

You can tell she feels good, she’s glowing! You go, Hermione!

Her skin is just creamy.  And she is lovely.  Isn’t it nice for a young starlet not to look like a brazen hussy?  I think so.

Looks better on her than on the model, where the bodice looks kinda smushed.
