WERQ: Kerry Washington in Donna Karan

Posted on November 04, 2011

Kerry Washington! GURL!

Kerry Washington attends Keep A Child Alive’s 8th annual Black Ball in New York City in a Donna Karan dress paired with Christian Louboutin shoes.

Donna Karan Resort 2012 Collection/Model: Melissa Tammerijn

We’re just gonna do this from the top down. Stand still, girl.

Okay, the hair? It’s a little Lois Lane, we’re not gonna lie. But it’s soft and shiny and that’s pretty much exactly what this dress needs.

The makeup? Very clean and pretty. Love the lip color.

The dress? Girl, to DIE. WHAT a cute and chic little thing. Just enough visual interest to keep it from going bridal.

The bag? Bridal.

The shoes? Are acceptable, because women of color can make that Silly Putty pump actually work. Although we would have recommended a black shoe here.

But still! Fabulous! That’s what you are! Okay, go have fun and save the children. Give us a hug. You WERQ that shit, darling.

i know! she’s like fabulous, expensive whipped cream!

    “Stand still, girl.”

    I love you guys.

    AAAAAAdorable!!!  So lovely.

Funny, I didn’t notice the “WERQ” at the top at first and I thought you were about to tear into her.  I don’t think it looks all that great, but if it was a little more cinched at the waist to give it a Betty Draper silhouette and she had different shoes/purse, I would be with you.

    • Anonymous

I totally agree. Different shoes and bag would take this to a whole new level. But still a werq!

    • Anonymous

Yes, I wanted it to be a tad more cinched at the waist because she’s bordering on shapeless, but otherwise, she looks tremendous!

  • Anonymous

    Gorgeous!

  • Anonymous

Whoa! She looks like my mother in the fifties (and that’s a good thing), although Mom would have killed for a “tan” like that.

  • Anonymous

I’m begrudgingly agreeing with the WERQ.  Just a little color in those shoes rather than that blechy silly putty would have scored major points with me.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chloe.stabler Chloe Stabler

Is it just me or does the dress make her look rather short?

    • http://profiles.google.com/singingraisin ali meowmeow

Yeah, I’m not sure the dress fits her all that well. It’s totally stunning and eye catching, but doesn’t look remotely easy to alter. The hem and the drop waist seem to hit her at weird and kind of unflattering places, and while making the neckline a little less plunging probably helped from making it look like the dress was WAY too big on her, the bust and arm holes don’t seem to fit her that well.

I prefer the dress on the model.

  • Anonymous

LOVE the dress, but it doesn’t fit quite right in the pits. For absolute perfection’s sake, she should’ve had the armholes tailored to fit.  (I’m familiar with this issue, being a small-breasted woman myself — I’ve frequently gotta take in slack.)

    • Sara__B

From the looks of the straps, and where the striping hits Kerry as opposed to the model, the straps have been shortened without changing the armholes. I wish she could have had a smaller size — is there anything smaller than a 0?

      • MilaXX

00, my cousin who eats like a cow wears it.

        • Rand Ortega

& you haven’t killed her while she slept? You’re made of stronger stuff than me, MilaXX!

          • MilaXX

Unfortunately she’s a good kid. The other day she had the nerve to tell me she had to take the size 0′s she just bought back because they were too big. If she wasn’t sweet, I’d have to poison her

          • http://twitter.com/IslandMo Mo Wilson

I’d really like to meet your cousin cause its really hard to find someone to complain to about not finding grown up clothes small emough to fit.  My bff is a size 14, doesn’t seem right to burden her

Oh man. I would love this as a wedding dress. So much so that I checked out the DK website to see the price. It’s $18K. Le sigh.

    • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Urban Gypsy aka Tess

It’s lovelier than most of dresses in the bridal collections T-Lo has featured recently. The $18K price tag buts a damper on my love for it, however.

    • Sobaika Mirza

      $18,000? $18,000??

I know designer wear is expensive. I’m someone who has dropped over a thousand on a handbag. I get it. But WTF. That’s a semester of college tuition. I feel gross just thinking about it. Needless to say, this is a very pretty dress but worth about half that.

      • Anonymous

To their credit (I guess?), this dress is by far the most expensive piece in the collection. But wow.

Wait, you can understand paying 1,000 for a handbag, but not 18 for a wedding dress?

        • Sobaika Mirza

Yes. I use it practically every day, after all.

    • Rand Ortega

A little part of me just died reading that.

  • Anonymous

Hot stuff. She looks good. Agree about the shoes. White & silly putty — no.

  • Anonymous

    Very pretty.

  • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

    Wow, she looks fabulous.

  • MilaXX

Kerry has been owning the runway lately. LUV HUH! I agree the bag is a bit bridal, but I think she’s spot on with the shoe, black would have been too harsh & made the dress look prom-y.

  • MilaXX

Can I also add that her hair is gorgeous. For every JHud and Beyonce who cant seem to get a weave done right, we have Kerry Washington and Taraji Henson who actually know hair stylist who can do it right.

  • Anonymous

She’s very pretty but it needs a little belt or something. Or maybe a size smaller? Regardless, she still looks like a delicious little confection.

  • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

Um – guess I’m the only one here who actively hates this dress. It makes her look shapeless, and doesn’t hang correctly from the shoulders. Plus from the back it looks like a ship’s sail… not flattering.

  • Erica Niemiec

My favorite part is her expression in the first shot. “Yeah, that’s right, be jealous.” She clearly knows she looks great.

A different clutch (I think a pop of color would be nice) and a tad more tailoring up top, and she gets an A+.

  • Allison Woods

I’m sorry, even on a chocolate girl, I’m so over shoes that color. The Silly Putty must go now, kthksbai!

  • Anonymous

Agree with the black shoes comment or maybe a dark grey shoe.

    • Anonymous

Oooh, dark gray sounds even better

  • Anonymous

LUV this dress.  The whole thing says bridal to me…but who cares.  I would be happy to be a bride looking this stylish…maybe I’ll get my husband to marry me again.  Her hair is perfect for dress.  I really don’t care for those shoes with the dress at all, but that’s a minor detail.

  • Anonymous

I’m not a fan of her’s at ALL, but I LOVE this look!  So pretty.  And she’s a makeup inspiration of mine.

  • Rand Ortega

She looks superb! I would’ve opted for a brightly colored bag in a turquoise or peach, but everything else is pure confection perfection.

  • Rand Ortega

Looks like sisterfriend is gearing up style & exposure wise for her new series coming out mid season!

  • Anonymous

Love the dress. It actually makes me think of a crazy dress Lady Gaga wore to an awards show once, and I’m wondering if it was inspired by that dress.

I thought of that too! The lavender one?

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Gorgeous!  Love that dress against her beautiful skin tone.  Looks much better on her than on the anorexic white chick.

  • Anonymous

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the dress, especially on her.  I love the hair & makeup as well but the handbag and shoes were wrong.  As mentioned previously, a pop of color in the clutch and a black patent sexy shoe would have been better.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

I like the red soles on the shoes- a little flash of color

  • Anonymous

That dress is definitely cut-a-bitch fabulous.

  • http://twitter.com/starrika Ali

I covet that dress so hard.

  • Anonymous

Too bad they couldn’t tailor the dress a bit for her. There is way too much fabric in the underarm area. If the straps were more narrow it would look perfect. Still, a great look, gorgeous dress. Hate the clutch.

  • http://twitter.com/KathleenGillies Kathleen Gillies

A big fat IN.  She is gorgeous.  The dress is beautful.  For 18K though, I’d want something a little more versatile.

  • http://twitter.com/RobertSanchez36 Robert Sanchez

Yep, she’s working the heck out of it. The pointy-toed stilettos were a good choice.

  • Anonymous

    Holy moly, she is gorgeous!

  • http://profiles.google.com/trashilove { edi } ilovetrash

    it’s a gorgeous dress.
i wish she had thrown some edge on it, though, cos when i first, distractedly, saw it i actually did think she was getting married.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I don’t know, from any angle but the side all I see is a great big triangle.  She should have worn a belt or had the waist taken in because it really is a beautiful dress.

  • Anonymous

    no. no. and no.

  • Anonymous

she looks like she had a fight with a shower curtain and decided to wear it as a trophy.

  • Anonymous

OK, I have to say it : in whatever ceremony does a bride get to carry a bag ? Let’s check, you have to pull off the dress, show the ring, carry a bouquet and handle drunken uncles and crying divorcees aunts. When would she have time to showcase a friggin bag ?
let’s be practical for a minute, shall we ?

  • http://twitter.com/Unclassical Alexandria N

i’m afraid you boys have lost your minds, momentarily. where is her waist?! and she looks so short! and those shoes are way too POINTY and silly putty! ick! cool dress though. but this is NOT NOT NOT a werq

  • Anonymous

What!? Werq what? That dress looks like the visual representation of a cyclone that hit her at her lower calf and is whizzing its way up her body destroying everything in its path.

  • Anonymous

Not wild about the hair or the accessories, but she still looks damn good. Love her.

  • http://www.facebook.com/samuel.j.donovan Samuel Joesph Donovan

    I LOVE that dress.

  • http://profiles.google.com/trashilove { edi } ilovetrash

ps. i just looked at this again & i think she should have kept the tiny touch of crème or, since i guess she had this dress made for her, added an equally teensy tinsy bit of pastel so it wouldnt look quite so bridal.

  • Anonymous

I am NOT a fan – she looks 12 in that dress. How old is she?? She is lovely, but that dress is not for an adult.

  • Anonymous

The shoes????  too high and that heel is incredibly thin – so high her feet look pained.  But that dress!!!!  wow

  • Anonymous

Not sure I love the dress with the shoes but she always lovely to me

  • margaret meyers

I want just a little height in her hair, and I think she needs some jewelry.  Wouldn’t she look great with a diamond hair clip and a sparkly bracelet? Or a couple of vintage dress clips on the back of her dress.

  • http://profiles.google.com/richixcore Richi Robilotto

LOVE this. At first I was going to take off points for the shoes since they are so colorless, but when I saw that they were Christian Louboutin’s, I shouted “WERQ.” I love love love a monochromatic color story with small hints of vibrant color. Even though you can only see the red in her shoes when she”s walking away, it still makes me happy.

  • Anonymous

One of the best dresses I’ve seen in a long long long time. I will dream about it, for sure.
Agree that black shoes would be better.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3NXBVKLOMNGCAVCVXOVWDGD3SE Marissa

The dress is beautiful but it’s too long on her, no?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_7DDBWDEQZA3OUS4S6MEMDEKWQ4 chhivt

Yep, I think so too, a bit too long.

  • http://twitter.com/hpenfield Hannah Penfield

She actually looks better than the model. WERQ.

  • Anonymous

That dress is truly marvelous on her AND as a piece of the designer’s & dressmaker’s art in itself.  Love it.

  • Anonymous

cute. Not Werq, for me at least.

  • Anonymous

It’s an unusual, stunning dress, but I just can’t talk myself into really liking it. From bodice to waist, it needs some serious fitting to her figure. And my feet are screaming in sympathetic pain for her. I suspect she looked awesome in person though.

  • Mauricio Delgado

Of course the dress is beautiful and so is she! But it’s sooo expensive. At least there are coupons for some of the Donna Karan collection (http://www.couponcactus.com/coupons/Nordstrom)….still wish this dress was part of the 40% off, my friend loves it and I can see why!

  • Anonymous

Wow.  The neckline saves it from being too fru-fru.

  • Jennifer Coleman

Please. Please. Somebody give me that dress. Please.

  • Anonymous

Love that stunning dress;  everything else, not so much.  I think black shoes would have been too heavy with this ethereal look so I’m okay with these shoes.  But the hair, makeup and bag are bad.  I especially hate that sugary pink frosting lipstick – blech.  She looks good overall but not even close to a WERQ.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

She is just fantastic. This is one of those dresses that could have looked like crap-a-cola on another person. WERQ is right!

  • Anonymous

I don’t like the shoes. Color is fine—I wouldn’t have liked black—but they look huge on her feet. I think she was trying to cover up the fact that this dress is too long for her and hits her at a weird place.

  • Anonymous

    Great dress.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Matthew-Vella/666619877 Matthew Vella

What? Its a wedding dress! I thought you were going to rip her on this

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

    Love it.  She looks beautiful.
