Project Runway All Stars Premieres January 5th

Posted on November 29, 2011

Well, that title just about says it all, don’t you think? Press release, take it away:

“The wait is FINALLY over! The MVPs from past seasons of the Emmy® Award nominated series Project Runway will be judged once again on Project Runway All Stars, premiering Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 9:00pm ET/PT on Lifetime.”

“A new day has arrived for 13 of the show’s most talented and memorable designers who’ve come back to the catwalk to face a brand new panel of discerning eyes with host supermodel Angela Lindvall, world-famous designers Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman as judges and fashion tastemaker and mentor, Marie Claire Editor-in-Chief Joanna Coles.”

“The designers have already shown what they can do and have created names for themselves since appearing on their seasons but will they have what it takes to impress these fashion elites? They must also show off their fashion prowess to guest judges such as the iconic Miss Piggy, supermodel Miranda Kerr and musician and producer Pharrell Williams, among others throughout the season. “

“The All Star designers set to take the Runway once again are:

Kenley Collins (Brooklyn, NY) – Season Five, Second Runner-up
Michael Costello (Palm Springs, CA) – Season Eight, Fourth Place
Gordana Gehlhausen (San Diego, CA) – Season Six, Fourth Place
Mondo Guerra (Denver, CO) – Season Eight, Runner-up
Mila Hermanovski (Los Angeles, CA) – Season Seven, Second Runner-up
Kara Janx (New York, NY) – Season Two, Fourth Place
Elisa Jimenez (New York, NY) – Season Four, 10th Place
April Johnston (Savannah, GA) – Season Eight, Fifth Place
Rami Kashou (Los Angeles, CA) – Season Four, Runner-up
Austin Scarlett (New York, NY) – Season One, Fourth Place
Jerell Scott (New York, NY) – Season Five, Fourth Place
Sweet P/Kathleen Vaughn (Pasadena, CA) – Season Four, Fifth Place
Anthony Williams (Atlanta, GA) – Season Seven, Fifth Place

“The winner of Project Runway All Stars will receive the most lucrative prizing ever in Project Runway history. Prizes include an exclusive designer’s boutique in select Neiman Marcus stores and on NeimanMarcus.com, $100,000 dollars in technology and office space to help grow their business from HP and Intel, $100,000 cash from L’Oreal Paris, a feature spread in Marie Claire, for which he or she will serve as a guest editor for one year, and a sewing and embroidery studio provided by Brother International. Project Runway All Stars is produced by The Weinstein Company and Bunim-Murray Productions.”

Oooooh, they had us right up to those last couple of words.

But who are we kidding? We’ll watch it and blog it, of course. We’re pretty sour toward the whole Project Runway franchise after that last debacle, but we can’t stay away with a cast like this. We’ve heard, from various branches on the grapevine, that the designs coming from this crew were jawdropping; some of the best seen in the history of the show. That makes sense, considering the skill level on display here.

So, will you be able to subject yourself to Project Runway once again? At least it’s a different set of judges. And besides, aren’t you kind of dying to see what the hell Austin’s going to make out of those potscrubbers?

the lack of tim saddens me.  how can i watch PR without tim telling everyone to make it work?!

    • Anonymous

No Tim? What are they thinking?

      • Anonymous

my 10 year old son (who loves! loves! loves! PR) said the same thing.  we’ll watch, with this cast (MONDO!!) it would be a shame not to, but i’m really gonna be missing me some TIM’isms (wooley balls!)

        • muzan-e

          Thread-hijack alert:

I’m not the only mother who’s son loves the show! Except for the last season, which was just too mean-hearted for him to watch.

          • Anonymous

we couldn’t watch last season at all!  we turned in for the finale, after ditching it after a few weeks.  it was just too painful to watch.  we’re big fans of anthony & mondo – so no way we’re missing at least the start of this.  and yay to sons who watch PR with their moms!!

          • http://www.facebook.com/amy.ennis Amy LeBaron Ennis

My son also watches with me. He’s 17. We’ve been watching since Season 2.

          • muzan-e

Love it! We missed the earlier seasons’ first runs, but I’m going to hunt them down for ours at some point; I really want him to see Season Four: March, Siriano, Rami all doing really magical things week after week.

          • muzan-e

Amen!  It’s so cool to know that there’s a bunch of us – and I’m really hoping that this season has all the fierce, crazy creativity that drew us in the first place. Unleashing ideas is what we’re all about here.

          • LocMama

I tried watching it with my son when it was on BRAVO, but all the promos for DHOwherever usually included the slinging of the word “bitch”.  Now these Dance Moms have me fast forwarding like I’m Quick Draw McGraw.  Josh’s behavior last season served as a teaching moment in how not to treat people, but he eventually tuned out because he thought that the fashion was “boring”.  My son’s 8 & I’m looking forward to watching All Stars with him.

          • muzan-e

Oh my goodness. I mean, I’m pretty fast with the remote (have to be, these days!), but Dance Moms makes me frantic. Explaining Bert’s boyfriend is simple, sweet, precious -and explaining why that grownup is haranguing those poor girls is impossible. My boy’s five years old, and I refuse to have him exposed to that sort of ugliness.   Which is why I couldn’t let him sit through Josh this season; he’s just not ready for that lesson yet. I think it’s fantastic that your son was, and I suspect that it would’ve been a powerful bit of teaching, too. This is what it looks like when people are bullied.

But oh man, ‘boring’. I die laughing. *g* Both of mine were crazy for that aquarium-gravel dress in the first episode (we’d just bought new neon gravel and marbles for ours!), but after that…  yeah. The excitement steadily waned. *g*

          • Anonymous

muzan-e, this has been driving me nuts, and probably shows what an old fart I really am, but what the heck does *g* mean??

Otoh, Bitter Kitten playgrounds sounds really cool :)

          • Anonymous

*g* is a short cut for “grins” I think.

          • http://captivewildwoman.blogspot.com Miss Lisa

My 9-year-old son watches with me. He likes the competition aspect and is pretty good at picking winning looks. His favorite this season was Anya so I was happy for him when she won. I think he has a little crush…

    • Anonymous

JOANNA COLES is his replacement. Way too cold to be of much worth as a mentor figure.

I just remember her repeating a line one too many times while judging a recent episode.”If Nina came into work looking like that, I’d think she had gone crazy.”

      • Anonymous

yeah, the TLo caps for that episode were far more interesting than what she actually said.

      • Anonymous

Yeah, I don’t think mentors are supposed to look like they’re ready to rip you limb from limb. And enjoy it.

      • Anonymous

Gawd. That’s like replacing Grace Kelly with Sienna Miller.

    • Anonymous

I don’t think Joanna Coles is very mentor-like. Rather scary, really.

      rats abandoning a sinking ship…….

  • Natalie Harris

Seems like there are a few obvious missing pieces.  No winners, and Santino was one of the bigger characters.  Intrigued about new judging panel.

    • J Dreesen

i think the point is no winners – at least, the “all star” versions of other shows set it up that way (ANTM, Top Chef).  they like to add vocab like “to win the *ever-elusive* title of…” and that kind of thing.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jane-Morris/1076502799 Jane Morris

i think the fact that none of them won while they were on is the whole point.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I think they either need NO winners or ALL winners — that way it’s a level playing field.

An all-winner season of PR All-Stars would be interesting, though, don’t you think?  Who wants to watch Jay and Christian on the same show as Anya and Gretchen?!?  The bitchery alone would be fabulous, and watching them just wipe the floor with the two most recent winners?  Now, that really would be priceless, Mastercard:)

      • http://www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/lastbutnotleast Anonymous

Totally. I imagine Gretchen might say something to Jay about their styles having some similarities and him being, like, “no, honey.” But you could mix winners and non winners. Let’s put Uli and Anya together.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Nah, Anya and Uli wouldn’t be much fun at all — Uli had no real talent for snark.

          • http://www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/lastbutnotleast Anonymous

Uli won’t need to snark. I’m just thinking of Anya’s inevtable reaction shot when one of her dresses have to come out after one of Uli’s. I’ll bring my own snark.

        • Anonymous

I just had to stop and think who Anya was. Doesn’t that just say it all?

          • Anonymous

Earlier last evening I saw Anya on a commercial spot for L’Oreal, I think it was. I did a double take. She had so completely left my mind.

      • Anonymous

I want this to happen SO BAD!!!

      • http://twitter.com/mellafe natalia h

Oh, anybody would sweep the floor with Anya or Gretchen. It would be delicious.

    • Anonymous

The biggest missing piece, IMHO: No Laura Bennett or any other Season 3 designer. :-[

      • Anonymous

Yeah, Laura IS sadly missing. Did TLo get the skinny on that?!

      • http://twitter.com/theorymeg Megan K.

I know!  My heart is sad that my very favorite season has no representatives.  I would love to see Michael have another shot!

      • Anonymous

I want to say that Laura has moved away from the clothes side of design and focuses on other stuff.  Plus she has a large family, and maybe she was offered but declined based upon her family’s needs.

I wish that the most recent season could have had representation so BERT could be on PRAS.

    • Anonymous

Oooh, Santino.  Fun!  He’s not the best designer, tho.’  Of course, nor are Elisa or Jerrell, for pete’s sake!

      • Anonymous

I feel sorry for Elisa. How the hell does a TENTH PLACE finisher rate as an “all star”?

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Heather-Waddell/10401341 Heather Waddell

She spat on the fabric that one time and apparently that makes her memorable enough to rate all stars.

          • Anonymous

Elisa’s an interesting designer, though.  Really innovative in her cutting–remember the single-seam dress?  I don’t expect her to go to the finale, but she might go a bit further than one assumes.

          • Anonymous

And I know several people who are acquainted with her and they unanimously declare her an interesting and extremely likable person. I don’t think that came across well on t.v. in her season, she just seemed somewhat hippy-dippy and even more somewhat scattered. I don’t know if she *can* come across well on t.v., but I guess she’ll get a chance to try.

        • Anonymous

I have a feeling they call the winners first, then all the 2nd placers, then the 3rds, etc. I’m almost guessing Elisa is in because she said yes when the others said no.

I also believe this whole “All-Stars” business is going on for two reasons alone: To make money, of course, but to also give the win to Mondo who deserved it all along. It’s why they did it the first time, for Daniel V.

          • http://profiles.google.com/grandiva1968 e jerry powell

Yes, but Korto deserved it just as much as Daniel V.

I haven’t watched the last couple of seasons of “regular” PR because of a severe case of Runway Fatigue.  However, I like all of these contestants, and I like the fact that Heidi, Nina, and Michael aren’t involved, so I’ll give this a shot and see if I can stand it.  If not, I always have my beloved TLo to blog it for me!

Good point… No Michael Kors making bad jokes is a definite plus.

It hardly seems like a fair fight, though.  Piggy would let Kenley blab on for a while, then give one “hmph” and a hair flip, and Kenley would be down for the count.

No contestant from Season 3, my favorite (and best?) season. :o(

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I thought 4 was the best, personally — 3 was probably a very close second followed by 7.  (I haven’t see S1, so place that one accordingly:)  Those top 3 were all pretty closely grouped in my mind, though, with the others WAY down the list.

  • http://twitter.com/EBarney EBarney

Hmm. Interesting that there’s no one from season 3

At last a cast with talent!

Watching this and then passing on PR forever. Bunim-Murray killed it for me.

    • Anonymous

That’s what I’m thinking.  I was irritated enough after the Mondo (my fingers keep trying to type Monday) season, but the last one I quit halfway through.  But THIS has some real talent, and actual personalities.  Too bad there’s not an April-Peach reunion in the mix!  But I’m happy looking at the talent, so I’ll poke my head in, hoping it’s awesome.  I think a change-up of the judges and even Tim (awww) is a good thing for the show.  I’m tired of the whole bunch.

Hrm.  January might be enough time to recharge my interest in Project Runway.  We’ll see.  Not feeling the host and judges.  Joanna Coles is a *bitch!* — but, to quote Heidi, “not in a good way.” The burden is on them, at this point, to entertain me or face the Off button.

Still, some good cast members, even if it’s pretty Lifetime/BM Era heavy.  No doubt I’ll be there, at least for the premiere.

    • Anonymous

well technically 7 out of the 13 are from the Elves era. Personally I think Michael Costello may have the toughest time in terms of construction/execution, although I do like the guy.

      • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

I bet he will be the one to surprise them all; he has the most to gain in that respect.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I had a weird love for Michael Costello — his construction was problematic (and he really didn’t do a lot that was “new”) but he seemed like a decent guy who was being picked on, and I love a stray puppy.  I’m really hopeful he comes in much improved in the technical aspects;  it’s been awhile and a talented tailor can learn a lot in that time.  Plus he and Mondo are still pretty tight, so maybe Mondo — who’s execution was BEAUTIFUL — has given him some pointers:)

  • MilaXX

I’m in. With the exception of Kenley I like this crew and even then I have to admit construction and skill was never was never a problem for her. Hopefully she is a little more self aware or at least enough to keep her attitude in check. I’m still gonna give B & M a side eye though. I’m not a fan of their producing/editing style.

    • Anonymous

The talent pool is so great how could it be bad?

I am curious what store they went to. Obviously not a craft store but not necessarily a grocery store. maybe they went to walmart…lol. BUt I could imagine Elisa being a little repulsed by it

I am amazed this was all filmed early this year. But if it was it would be understandable that Tim et al wouldn’t have the time to be involved. I will say after seeing what the prize is at stake I can understand why the alum would want to do it. I wonder also if past winners were simply disqualified for it. Granted I could see Chloe simply being too busy . Christian doesn’t need to come back. Jay I definitely could see not wanting to endure it again. Jeffrey has already done the all-stars thing

    • Anonymous

No WalMarts in NYC (yet)….could be Target though.  Looks like Kara is working with either a hot glue gun or a Dremel tool.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

        They’ve been to Jersey before…. :D

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

You know, I could see Christian doing the show again, even though he doesn’t need it, if the prize was good enough and he had the time.  I think he really enjoyed it, honestly.

Jay tried to get on S3 — if you watch the casting special, he auditioned again, saying that he still needed the money and exposure (since he turned down his prize).

Jeffery… I think he’s been too soured on the PR thing.  He’s a prickly guy, and losing the All Star challenge to Daniel V (who I loved but his entry sucked that time, sorry) probably didn’t sit too well.  Plus the winners in the last couple years… I can’t see him being okay with that.

Chloe would probably do it if she wanted the prize.  But she said during her season that she wasn’t sure she wanted the “big name designer” life, and the prize is pretty geared toward that.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

      My guess is dollar store.

That first pic of Mondo and the last pic of Austin are too much for me to resist. I would have liked to see Santino on the list, mainly because I loved his & Austin’s show, I thought they were a fun odd couple.

POTSCRUBBERS!  i wanna see i wanna see gimme gimme gimme…but i don’t want to *wear*.  just *see*.

  • Anonymous

Oh, you bet I’ll watch! Not least because of the whole change of judges.  I’m gonna miss Tim Gunn, but Joanna Coles should give an interesting vibe to the workroom.

Um…do you see her with leather bustier, thigh-high stiletto boots, and whip?  I’m kinda feeling that…

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I really like the replacement of Tim with Joanna Coles — not because I don’t love Tim!  But these people have done PR before, they know what it’s about, they’ve had some experience with the industry at large, and I don’t think they still need Tim’s brand of supportive mentoring.  Watching Joanna inform them of some harsh realities should be interesting, and probably more helpful to this group than Tim would be.

      • Anonymous

I was trying to come up with a drinking game for PR All-Stars and thought about “drink every time a human expression crosses Coles’ face.” But then I realized that no one would ever get even the least bit tipsy. Worst drinking game ever.

  • Anonymous

Well, Joanna Coles mentoring some of these egos should be…interesting.  Who will throw the cat, her or Kenley?  And it would have been fun to watch either one of them clash with Santino (I wasn’t going for pretty, JO-AN-NA).

As far as what Austin is doing with those pot scrubbers, I suspect he’s going to attach them randomly all over a dress in an attempt to impress Georgina….

  • Anonymous

Putting a 10th-place contestant in with all of these 2nd and 3rd place runners-up demerits the term “all-star.”  Love Isaac Mizrahi, so I’m definitely in, despite the presence of Joanna Coles. The “guest editor for one year” prize is raising at least one of my eyebrows. Will Joanna fail to remind them at every turn that SHE is the boss?

    • Anonymous

I imagine the inclusion of Elisa came from the impact she had on with many fans. Plus her style of sewing and temperment make for a nice counter balance to the more attention seeking personalities. Of all these people, she’s the one most likely doing it for fun. And in fairness at a trunk show I have personally witness the speed and skill with which this woman can hand sew a dress. pretty darn impressive

    • foodycat

I was wondering about that too – 10th place isn’t a *just missed*, it’s a “sure, I have time on my hands”.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

But it is still a show, and you do still need a decent group of personalities in addition to skill.  I can see including Elisa for the “fun” personality-driven part of the show.

      • Anonymous

Now that I remember who she is, yes, she will bring on the fun, I’m sure.

Boy, it was totally suck to be the first person cut from this round, wouldn’t it?

  • Anonymous

At the very least there’s TALENT galore.  I think the “MVP” hyperbole is annoying, and “prizing” is not a noun.  Great googly-moogly, I wish these flacks had some grounding in English composition.

I actually am glad for a judges and mentors shake-up, since the Frau Seal/Duchess/Sir Tim/La Nina quartet have gotten rather tired and past their sell-by (they done sold OUT) dates.

Some entertainment for the long winter months.

    All the best,

    NDC

I will watch it for Mondo and Austin, and hope and pray Kenley gets cut FIRST!  Lord, I cannot stand that whiny bitch!!

  • Anonymous

I will miss Tim, and all in all I’m pretty fed up with the show, but… I’ll watch this.  More than anything else (even though the inconsistency in judging annoyed me), my lack of interest in the most recent season was due to the overall lower quality of designs relative to other seasons.  So a show with proven contenders should at least deliver on that front!

I wonder how Elisa feels, being the only person on the cast who wasn’t even close to the finals on her season, though…

SERIOUSLY? Mila and Kenley? ugh. I’m already sick of their fighting and it hasn’t even started yet. Also, no Christopher Straub? NO TIM????!!!! I’ll be letting T-Lo do all my dirty work and actually watch it, I’ll just sit back and read the blogs.

  • http://twitter.com/jessicapippin Jessica Pippin

Wish Daniel V was on here! He was one of my all time favs.

  • Anonymous

I just can’t bring myself to watch it – I love almost all of these designers, and knowing how BM treats their talent it would break my heart to see this clusterf-  I’ll come here to read your runway review instead.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Micaela-Cannon/1465504041 Micaela Cannon

I feel like Joanna Coles is going to be the least inspiring “mentor” ever. She always comes across as bitch and a charisma void at the same time. I’m sure I’ll be watching…I just wonder if I’m actually going to be able to CARE about it like I used to.

    • Leslie Streeter

      Yeah, I don’t get warmth from Jo-Jo.

    • Anonymous

A charisma void! LOVE that!  And am going to steal it! :)

  • R. L.

I am getting sucked back in by the idea of jaw-dropping designs.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

What’ll be hard is that I believe wholeheartedly in Austin for the win, but same goes for Mondo and I really liked Rami’s stuff. Who to root for! The agony! Also agonizing is the suspicion that the whole show might be about 90% better without the judges of regular PR, and what’ll that mean going forward?

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

If viewer response to the new judges is really high, they will replace MK and Nina, but only one at a time — they’d replace Heidi only if they ABSOLUTELY have to because of her exec. producer status.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

That’s cool, I don’t mind Nina. Its the other two that kill me (Love ya, Heidi, but jeez, you’ve got bad taste!). The Duchess is played out, IMHO.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Heidi’s the one I still kinda respect — she at least seems honest.  I mean, I think she really did like Anya’s crap, because she doesn’t know anything about sewing and construction, so some of the flaws weren’t apparent to her.  And she freely admitted that she thought the Gretchen thing was total crap.

And I love MK… his interviews and stuff are so interesting and he has such an great outlook on clothes and women in general.  I think he’s a great guy.  But you know what they say about “if you love someone, set them free”?  I think it’s time to set him free to not have to praise such godawful crap.  At least for a couple seasons.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

I agree with you on MK, but I think that he’s just phoning it in with his little witticisms and not really giving the mature designer’s eye to the work anymore. But of course, you’re right in that the work has been sub-par. I think it’s a case of if you look at something for too long, you can’t make sense of it anymore. Fresh eyes will be at least unpredictable, and hopefully at best insightful.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I wonder if he’s not getting too caught up in PR.  I know one of the things said about S8′s finale was that he was pushing for Gretchen because he wanted a sportswear designer — almost to justify his work.

I think awhile away would do him a lot of good.

  • Anonymous

I will be able to subject myself to it with no effort whatsoever.  Lots of my favorite folks are in this and the quality will already be waaaay above anything we were abused with this last season.  Plus I think it will be harder for the dreaded Bunim-Murray to abuse us with dramatic personal stories when we already know who they are and what they’ve been up to, and even if they do try to wring the drama out of these folks at least I’ll give a shit about them (mostly) unlike this past dreary, talentless season.

Austin Scarlett + pot scrubbers!  Yea!

  • http://twitter.com/karenwalsh Karen Walsh

Austin + potscrubbers = instant classic!  I’ll be there with bells on.  Oh, to see my Ramilicious once more . . .

    • http://twitter.com/CestmoiLola CestmoiLola

If there was a quota of scenes with Ramilicious, in his towel, moisturizing like he’s in the Sahara – hon I’m there with bells on!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GFMOZFM3WT3T56EZHVZFK7UXSI Ramon

I hope they don’t turn this into the redemption of Michael Costello, unless he deserves to win. I wouldn’t have thought that, but when I saw who is producing the show my heart didn’t just sink, it went all the way to China.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HBS4KWJ6XTPDEL2JMD37ZS5YHA Ben

Those crazy bitches better bring it. Make them make clothes from crayons or something.

  • mrspeel2

Of course I’m there! At least this group of contenders aren’t babes in the woods and hopefully this go-around will be more in keeping with what PR used to be, and should be again. Besides, I’m excited to see Rami and Mondo but I could do without that woman – forget her name – who marked her designs with spittle. Hopefully, she’s grown up by now.

  • Kerry Fitch

When Mondo did his public appearances for Macy’s a few months ago, he was visibly shell-shocked from the All Stars experience.  He was sort of joking, but he said the ‘Nice Mondo’ is nowhere to be seen in this season, and it was much harder going back to the PR grind than he’d expected.

  • Anonymous

Hmm…what with the delay of the premiere, Miss Piggy is going to be a little 2011 by the time she’s on.

A Hunger Games challenge would have been a bit more timely….

Georgina Chapman happens to be married to Mr. Weinstein so that explains it. (Ewww, he’s so gross!)

I cannot stop laughing at Austin’s face in the second photo, behind Mondo. Coupled with Jerell’s eek-a-mouse hands.

  • Alisha Westerfeld

    Hells YES!  I can’t wait

  • Anonymous

We walked into Mood over the summer and saw Austin Scarlett running around with some stressed out looking people with headphones chasing after him trying to get him to move faster, while everyone in the store was doing double takes as he sailed by. When we finished shopping, we walked out of the elevator to see a van full of PR alumni zipping past the door. My daughter was able to recognize Mondo, but that was it. Now we’re very excited to see this!

OH, I’m so “in”. I’m fairly certain this’ll be my last season of PR viewing (I’ll just read your recaps post-”All-Stars”), but at least this season is made up of QUALITY contestants.

  • http://profiles.google.com/jenna.thomasmckie Jenna Thomas-McKie

    Pros:

    1.  We already know all the designers have a least a minimum level of talent.2.  New judges.

    Cons:

    1.  No Tim.
    2.  Joanna Coles, who praised Gretchen last season, and always looks so wooden on screen.
    3.  Still produced by The Weinstein Company and Bunim-Murray Production

I’m not planning to watch at this time, but I’ll be following here, and y’all might change my mind.  Maybe.

    But doubtful.

  • Anonymous

I’m totally in. But why Elisa? She’s the “one of these things is not like the others” that kind of baffles me.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Hahahaha… that’s always what we use at my house too!  Sadly, I still can’t figure out how to get the musical notes into text to show the singing part:)

UUGGGHHHHH ISAAC MIZRAHI AS A JUDGE UUUGGHHHHH

  • Judy_J

Oh, I’ll be watching, mainly because this cast is comprised of designers we all know and love (or loathe, in some cases).  And I’m excited about Isaac Mizrahi being a judge. And you know the designs will be far superior to anything we’ve seen in the past few seasons.

  • Anonymous

Can’t wait. My long list of favorites are April, Kara, Mondo, Rami, and Gordina. Looks like Sweat Pea is making a career out of being on Project Runway.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I will subject myself to it as long as Austin Scarlett is on the television.  Once he’s out, so am I.

  • Meredith McCann

I wonder what the contestants who were on the Bravo seasons will think. And I hope they will tell us if they think anything particularly nasty.

  • Eclectic Mayhem

I’ll be watching for the talent on show.

I’m not particularly looking forward to the new host & judges but I have no desire to see the old host and judges ever again. As for Joanna Coles – she’s no Tim Gunn.  But then the current issue Tim Gunn is no Tim Gunn either so I won’t miss him in the least.

And Bunim/Murray can go take a running f*** at a doughnut.

    • Anonymous

What an image!  Somehow I’m seeing two people doing a three-legged race (not that third leg. . . except, yes, also that third leg) running toward a doughnut. . . .

      • Eclectic Mayhem

I can’t take the credit for the phrase I’m afraid, it’s a quote from a British musical called Blood Brothers and was probably around long before that!

Even if you wanted to skip it, would the boys let you?  I mean, I know how they loved Mondo:)

      • Eclectic Mayhem

I didn’t let them see the last season, it was so ghastly.  If this one looks interesting then I’ll let them catch up with it and we can resume our Mondo Conga.

I was watching the Season 4 marathon on Style and watching those episodes made me want to cry.

    • Anonymous

the one thing b-m could do to further piss me off is if they’d already chosen the winner before the contest started, as may have happened last season.  the promise of a boutique in neiman marcus makes me a little leery.  it’s hard to believe they’d commit to that with no control over the winner.  on the other hand, it does provide for some some taste and quality control.

i’m sure people have commented on this before, but every time i type b-m i think how appropriate the initials are.  because we all know they’re full of it.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

My guess is that Neiman’s will have some input — probably at least one challenge they’ll be judging and possibly the finale.  If I were in charge, that’s what I do:  I’d demand that my head buyer be the guest judge for the finale, and that way I could be sure that the final winner was someone I didn’t mind featuring.

If they really don’t like the winner “selected NM stores” will be ONE NM store, for about a week, I can almost guarantee it:)

      • Eclectic Mayhem

Agreed.  Much as I love Mondo I would be very unhappy if it looked like things were being manipulated to give him the win.  Or if things were being manipulated to give anyone the win.

Let’s have a nice, clean game everyone – okay?

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Yeah, I’d love to see Mondo get a win.  But there are plenty of other designers on that list that could prove equally deserving, so I don’t want it to be automatic.

        • Anonymous

Rumor has it that they did indeed pick the winner before the show even started and many of the designers were mad because of it/how obvious it was.

          • Anonymous

            Here we go…already…

          • Eclectic Mayhem

If that turns out to be the case then I’m out.  I can’t watch that kind of nonsense again.

          • Anonymous

Yeah, I have heard that too, which is yet another reason why I won’t be watching.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LSGDWPRY6JLBPB43EO6MIAURZI what

I think it’s pretty much impossible for this production co. (and glaringly obvious too) not to manipulate this show at this point.
They SERIOUSLY need to make some cash out of it after the ridiculous amount they paid for it that is still yet to be made up, and that’s only going to happen if they can make some money off of the winner. ie: Anya’s crud is cheaply and easily made and appeals to a wider more mainstream audience.  The people who are back are back because they can make B/M MONEY. Even though the winner was already chosen, the others will make some pretty fine things that will be sold online and that may be mass produced if B/M wanted them to be. 90% for B/M, 10 for the designers is what the reg. season contract is.
When Nina judged, it was considered ‘cross promotion’ like a ‘win-win’ scenario. When nobody ‘won’ anything from it (including the designer in terms of recognition), then it became an ‘have them make something directly for HER…let them have HER input….then that’ll sell!’ and that didn’t work so well either. Zero dollars for B/M.  – so now it’s just flat out ‘get Nina’s boss in there, all day EVERY day, and have HER tell them how to make some SELL-ABLE clothes for chris’ sake because we need some damn money!’
No trips to France for PR des. of the future, hell not even an ‘aul uf you have verked very hard…’ night out on the town drinking as a set up in order to destroy their next days worth of designs because a night out costs money too. And they can’t afford to lose a possible sale in something someone might design if they weren’t effed up from the night before. Now we have 2nd rate models, unknown bands, unknown kids, unknown govs. isl. curator, unknown troop of stilt walkers and not even a trip to JERSEY.
For this show all the orig. judges are gone and one is even going to be a fecking MUPPET at some point (open your eyes people) so I’m fairly certain that if this all works out in B/M’s eyes, we’ll see some orig. members on the reg. show that will be gone. A Mitzrahi contract comes way cheaper than a Kors one that’s now 10 yrs. old if y’a know what I’m sayin’.

  • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.parker Sara Parker

I think Michael C. has Ivy to thank for him being cast here. I thought he was a pretty good contestant, but if Ivy hadn’t decided to go all Mean-Girls on him, he probably would have made some decent enough dresses, gotten the boot somewhere in the middle, and gone his merry way. No one would remember him now if it hadn’t been for that weirdly contrived drama, in my opinion.

  • Kate Pearce

    Oh Rami, pleat me something!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_7DDBWDEQZA3OUS4S6MEMDEKWQ4 chhivt

Speaking of Rami, mayhap he will return and grace us in those ill-fitted retro jeans that outline his man bits and ride up his derriere so often.

  • http://twitter.com/ShelfAfterlife Shelf Afterlife

I’m definitely going to watch because these are all proven talents and while I’m sure there will be high drama (thanks, Lifetime) at least we know all of these people can design.  I’m looking forward to seeing actual good stuff going down the runway for a change.

  • Anonymous

I’ll watch. It would be better without SweetP & Elisa (neither of which are AllStars), but I get that they had to fill the rosters, and there were likely a lot of better designers who turned them down – leaving room for those two.

But I don’t have ANY confidence in Bunim/Murray. THey produce nothing but trash, but maybe this will turn out OK in spite of them.–GothamTomato

This is Sweet P’s second time in the All Stars. How many bites does she get?  Or will she be the first to qualify for the Project Runway All-Stars All-Stars?

Meh. I’m just excited that all of these contestants can actually sew sleeves and stuff.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1043171034 Tadiana Walton Jones

I’m beyond delighted to see Mondo, Rami, Kara, Austin, and Mila again.  Mildly interested in seeing what Gordana, Kenley, Michael, April, Sweet P and Anthony might produce – they all had at least some good looks.  Elisa is a “Why the hell?” and Jerell is a “Who the hell?” – I have no real recollection of him and none at all of his clothes.  Overall that makes this a win for me and in any case far beyond PR’s most recent seasons.  Count me in.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Jerell was the last one out before the final in the Kenley – Leanne – Korto season.

      • Anonymous

I thought Jerell was very talented and got short shrift from the judges for all the wrong reasons.  He’s also one of the nicest people ever on that show.

Of course I’ll be watching.  I was never one of those fair weather viewers that threatened to quit watching….despite the crappy finales.

I’m disappointed that Wendy and Kara Saun aren’t participating.  Surprised that Elisa, Sweet Pea and Anthony were invited back.  Hoping to see April and Mondo go all the way

    • Anonymous

Anthony was invited back because like “Rachel Zoe” Brad, he is made for reazlity TV.

      • Anonymous

I have high hopes for Brad’s show.  He really is perfect for a reality show, and he’s charming and talented to boot. And it will be fun just to see what kind of outfit he wears each week!

    • Anonymous

      “Fair-weather viewers?” “Crappy finales?”

I think you are unclear on the concept. Those of us who have watched every episode of every season–even enduring the ghastly messes that BM made of the last two seasons, not just finales–are not “fair-weather viewers.”  We are devoted fans of what PR was before BM got hold of it and turned it into Big Brother with Sewing.

      • Anonymous

oh, lighten up…it’s just a reality show.

wendy and kara saun in a catfight along with kenley and ivy.  eyeballs will be gouged out, hair will be ripped out.  forgive me but i hope kara saun gets the worst of it.  she always rubbed me the wrong way with her self-righteous shenanigans.  oh well, it’s all a dream since the only one invited is miss kenley the cat slinger.  brings a whole new meaning to the word catfight.

      • Anonymous

For me, there is no coming back from throwing a cat.  And it was her own cat!   My two feline companions and I *HISS* in her general direction.

    • Eclectic Mayhem

If being a ‘fair weather’ viewer means I was a passionate advocate for the show, that I hung on desperately as it suffered the death throes of the last two seasons and have regretfully decided that, in it’s current incarnation, Project Runway is insulting to my – and everyone else’s – intelligence?

Then yes – I’m a fair weather viewer.

  • http://twitter.com/CestmoiLola CestmoiLola

Oh, I guess I’m in. I’m interested in seeing what Mila will do, since what I remember of her work was B&W & geometric. I also want to see Elisa, a genuine eccentric – not just one for tv. And, of course, there’s Austin. Is there any way to make those pot scrubbers into frills?

After this, no more. Bunim-Murray has done too much damage to the brand.

  • Anonymous

I gonna watch this ALL Star Edition simply for the delight of seeing my favorite Atlanta Boy, Anthony Willimas, once again.

I dunno.  Still pretty peeved at PR for the last season and honestly am not that interested in anyone in that list except Mondo and Austin.  We’ll see.  I might be less bitter closer to the premiere.  Will of course be reading your blogging of it though =D

  • Sara__B

Of course I’ll watch, even without Tim. (And, yes, I can’t wait to see what Austin makes using metal pot scrubbers.) This should be fun!

I hope Mondo or Austin takes it. Loved Gordana….that would be good too. It will be nice to see who has grown up, just like on Top Chef All-Stars.

It better be better than the last 2 crap seasons.

  • Anonymous

I can’t wait for this to begin !
Last timed you posted about the designer I think I missed (Or I forgot) the mention of our sweetly loony Elisa. I can’t wait to see her open her chakras to real-TV again.
Some people (like Jerrel, Mickael Costello or Rami) don’t excite me that much, but the very idea of seeing in the same screen, at the same time Austin, Elisa, Mila, Kara and Gordana throw me in heaven.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Claudia-Gilbert/875055316 Claudia Gilbert

I’m definitely watching this.  I will miss Tim, but to be honest I missed Tim this whole last season.  I doubt I’ll look forward to another bog standard PR, though.  I’m pretty sure we’re broken up for good this time.  This will be our last no-strings hurrah!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kimberly-Burke/100002384493067 Kimberly Burke

There are no “places” on Elisa’s planet.  Everyone is number one and puts on a big shiny gold star badge every morning before leaving the house to hop a ride on the Lasagna Express to go work with the wee folk in the iridescent snicker-doodles in the sky.

    • Anonymous

Oh, NOW I remember her. Thank you for the cray-cray train of thought. LOVED her.

    • Anonymous

i think you’re right on her wavelength.  always loved her sweetness.  we must have drank the same kool-aid somewhere along the way.

    • Anonymous

I love that Elisa is in it. I hope she does well but I am doubtful she will win. I know her detractors just remember the spit-mark but the woman is talented and she’s actually very educated. I’ve watched her up close make a dress literally by hand in less than an hour. But she doesn’t have the ego or competitive streak in my opinion needed. I firmly believe she’s doing it for the hell of it. I doubt it’s for the prizes or prestige. She actually has had a pretty successful career and the software would be useless to her. She doesn’t own a computer and told me she does not bother with the internet.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Am I the only one who didn’t find the spit-mark all that odd?  I mean, aren’t clothes going to be washed after purchase before wearing anyway?  And with the models on the show, a designer is so close to them and physically touching them a ton, so germ thing seems a bit silly to me… (Of course, I have 3 kids under 10, so spit is the least of my concerns when it comes to germs!) To me it seemed like a quick and easy way of marking the fabric without worrying about leaving a permanent mark… I wouldn’t do it, but I don’t care if she wants to.

    • LocMama

Thank you for that.  NOW I remember who she is.  Can’t wait to see her again and hopes she sticks around a little longer this time.

  • Anonymous

This is a whole other thing. Of course I’ll watch.

PS MONDO. PUT ON SOME CLOTHES, YOUNG LADY. Seriously, though, that is the opposite of flattering to his body shape.

  • Anonymous

    Holy cow!  121 ccomments already???

I am done with PR/Regular.  I haven’t decided whether to watch this or not.  Georgina Chapman?  Joanna Coles?  The Weinsteins?  And BM?  All red flags.

I’d love to see Austin, Mondo, Rami, Gordana, and Jerrell working again.  But I swear–one whiff of BM-instigated crap drama and I will be done.

On an entirely different note, re the PR release:  “prizing?”

    • Anonymous

Hey, Infora – I beefed about “prizing” in my post way up dere.  To my way of thinking, “to prize” is to dig out something with a lot of effort and a lever-like tool.  Also spelled with an “s.”  These jamokes who write the press releases never had MY prep school English teachers, that’s for sure, and more’s the pity.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

“to prize” is to value something highly, to me:)  As in “I prize my time on Project Runway, and deeply regret that I will be unable to participate in the All-Star season because of the mess the producers have made in recent seasons.”

        • Anonymous

Love both your replies, NDC_etc. and Shannon!  NDC, sorry I missed your earlier post about prizing, and did you notice how virtually every comma was misused in that release?  Looks like BM can’t even hire literates to write their garbage.  Shannon–FUNNY!  Also sad…

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

You know what’s fun?  Trying reading it out loud, as written, with all the comma pauses.  How is it possible that I can’t get a job as a writer and these people can?!?  It’s just insulting!

of course i’ll watch!  any project runway is better than none at all.  and the mystery of the pot scrubbers is only the beginning.  by the time i got to the end of the post i had ideas coming out my ears about how to use those unconventional materials.  why has no one, during the grocery store challenges, ever used magazines?  i’ve made quilts out of magazines and they’re pretty fabulous.  also great transfer effects can be achieved using contact paper or clear packing tape and newsprint on muslin or other fabric-like material.  my creative juices are flowing all over the place here.

  • Anonymous

I was team Mila (to some extent) during her season, so I’m glad she’s back.  Can’t wait to see some real fashion.

  • Anonymous

Look at those guns on Rami. Please God, let him wear those tight t-shirts all season. What? There are others in the show. I hardly noticed.

    • Anonymous

and speaking of get-ups, how about mondo with his little hairless boy chest peeking out of that skimpy purple and leopard tank?  and with the yellow headband.  looks like he might have grabbed it out of april’s decoy collection, and used some procion dye to do a transformation.

  • Anonymous

….and it’s back on my dvr!  Since they’re not using the Michael, Heidi, and Nina-bots, I think there is a chance for something good here.

  • Anonymous

I’m reluctantly on board. Issac has had his chance at reality design shows that have crashed and burned, but I guess his name still gets him the gig (it sure isn’t his personality). I wonder if Elisa (10 place elimination! I barely remember her) was a substitute for someone that had to cancel at the last minute (she is in NY)?

  • Anonymous

Yay! I’m in. Why no Tim? Too bad they didn’t have Tim be the host…that would have been cool!

  • BuffaloBarbara

It has Austin and Gordana.  I’m there.

  • Anonymous

Besides the producer manipulation, the casting on PR has been really godawful and lackluster recently. So YEAH, I’m going to tune in for this! I would love to see what else these people can do.

  • Anonymous

I’ll definitely be watching and will say right now that I’ll be rooting for Austin, one of my all-time favorites.

Does this mean The Fashion Show if really done is Mizrahi has been released from his contract to do this show?

  • http://profiles.google.com/rosatcollege Ros Clarke

MISS PIGGY AS GUEST JUDGE.  Cannot wait.

  • Anonymous

I don’t know. It still stinks of BM. And Joanna Coles? Ugh.

    Maybe.

  • Anonymous

I love Austin! And I hope he had a good come back to Isaac saying “Oh, I thought it was Starlet…” I plan on watching. As much as the past two seasons have aggravated me, I’ll probably keep watching until you guys stop blogging.
And YES! I am dying to see what Austin makes with those scrubbers!

  • Anonymous

I don’t recognize six of these people. Oops.

    • Anonymous

I only know nine without looking.

  • Anonymous

Not sure about the judges, but will not be able to stop watching it because of the cast!

  • Anonymous

Something to look forward to in the new year.

  • http://profiles.google.com/grandiva1968 e jerry powell

Austin needs to have his roots done.  Other than that, fabulous!

I would like to see what kind of baby Austin and Rami would have together, to be perfectly honest.

    • Anonymous

what a lovely concept.  with austin’s new make up and mustache looks,  his giving me a bit of mondo’s model in her “trouser role”.

  • Anonymous

I am SO watching this.  I hope the strength of the designers and the change in judges are able to squash that Bunim-Murray crap we were subjected to recently.

  • http://twitter.com/RobertSanchez36 Robert Sanchez

Eh. I’ll faithfully read your recaps here, but I won’t be watching the show. I suspect it will be the same old boneheaded judging panels and preordained winner.

  • Anonymous

Team Austin!  I do miss his YSL-homage glasses, tho’.  Different judges=good, since the judging has been so cracktastic.  Joanna Coles as the mentor?  Ack.  Still, can’t wait for this to start!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QDTYKBJF23YJKXYRP2LWWOMJFQ TN

Sad that we won’t see Tim, instead we get Joanna Coles (ugghh).  I’m happy for the change of judges though, this means Gordana won’t get picked on for just *breathing* again, she seriously got bitch slapped like a rag doll for anything that she did the last time.

  • Andrea Arthur

    “Where’s Andre?”

    • Anonymous

Agree.  SO love Andre and wish he were in this group!

    • Anonymous

he’s at the red lobster with tim.

  • Anonymous

I’ll tune in, although I’m less keen on PR these days, thanks to Bunim-Murray. I’m interested in almost every one of these designers, including Elisa (she made a one-seam gown that I thought was beautiful in her season) and even Kenley, although her nasal upspeak is grating even when she’s not being snotty.

Mostly, though, it’s MONDO-GORDANA-AUSTIN for me. Love them.

    • Anonymous

it’s hard to remember a time when kenley was not being snotty.  liked a lot of her clothes, though.  too bad her personality will keep her from going far, unless she takes dear abby’s advice and seeks professional help.

On tenterhooks to see how Joanna Coles ments the mentees.

  • Anonymous

I actually just got really excited for this. At least these people have talent.

  • LocMama

I’m IN for the long haul!  I’ll miss Tim, but if they were going to not use him like they did in the last season then he deserves a break.  I’m hoping the production team has learned to use a lighter hand and the fabulosity of these designers transcends all the nonsense.
I must confess that I don’t remember Elisa at all.  A little help?

    • Anonymous

Elisa:  She spit on her fabric.  Ringing any bells?

      • LocMama

Definitely yes.  If I had only continued to read the comments I would have figured it out.  Thanks again Kimberly Burke!  & thank you Inforapenny.

Off topic:  Are those your fabulous bangs in your pic?

        • Anonymous

Oh, don’t I wish!  Those fabulous bangs belong to George Harrison, circa 1963.  :)

      • Anonymous

wait.  put some tin foil on your head and adjust it this way and that.  hearing bells?  that’s elisa.

        • Anonymous

Not to be confused with Headstand Ari.

  • Anonymous

Definitely in for Mondo, Gordana, and Kara Janx. I just hope it’s not a fix to give Mondo a makeup win.

  • http://twitter.com/mellafe natalia h

I’m watching like I’ve never watched anything before!

I still hate that Kara is there again and Sweet P too. How many chances do these people need? But it’ll be interesting to see how people like Will Scarlett compete with the newer designers, so I’ll def. watch. Cannot wait.

    • Anonymous

i never liked kara janx’s work on the show either.  i warmed up to her personality a bit when she was on joe zee’s show, and got a feel for her style with the kimono wrap and such.  but it seemed like she never made anything interesting on the show.  she seems to have quite a fan following, so there must be something there.  i just don’t get it.

  • Anonymous

Why none of the Black designers who actually could have a chance of winning, instead of two who you KNOW will be cut within the first 3 episodes? Korto was too busy? (Or still pissed that she was cheated in the last All Star show…) No Kara Saun? No Mychael Knight? Surprised they didn’t just bring back Zulema…

  • Anonymous

Yeah, I will watch this one, but only this one.  Not accessory, not season 10 of PR, not Tim Gunn’s new show.  Just this one because of the talented designers

  • Anonymous

I don’t care that Tim Gunn isn’t associated with this. I found his drinking of the Koolaid this past season disheartening. It is doubtful I will ever watch PR again….HOWEVER, I am not sure I can resist this cast. I also really enjoyed Isaac Mizrahi on The Fashion Show. He was really quite good.

I have been rewatching previous season on Style on Friday afternoons. Just finished off Season 4 from last week. Previous seasons have just been WONDERFUL! I was watching season 4 and thinking how virtually anyone out of the top 6 or 7 could have wiped the floor with the last two seasons designers. They have been really poor by contrast.

  • Anonymous

Season 9 may have been a dull mess, but I maintain that 90% of the problem was the cast. This, on the other hand, has an amazing cast and we all know that already. So, this should be actually good.

  • Anonymous

Great cast.  Sorry there’s no Tim.  Now can BM resist screwing this up with manufactured drama instead of just letting great fashion happen?

  • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

I plan to watch the all-stars, even though I’m disgusted with PR. I wonder who Lifetime chose to win this time.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=508965562 Amanda Choo Quan

    MVPs? Please.

    Those prizes are awesome, though.

  • Anonymous

I’d watch anything that featured Austin.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1326120071 Gaby Ripoll

Want to bet Kenley will win since she’s the young pretty girl in the cast? /grouch.

    • Anonymous

no, kenley is not pretty enough. she’s pretty, i guess, but anya wasnt just pretty. anya was an incredible, unimissable whole package. they went for the package, not the face. &, out of all of these people, kenley is one of the ones w/ the smallest smidgen of talent. she’s annoying, true, but she’s a josh, not an anya.

my guess is they will try to redeem some of their credibility w/ the fashion-oriented, as opposed to reality-oriented, crowd w/ this one. though, of course, i could be wrong.

      • Anonymous

O jeez I hope you’re right.  We should be spared most of the immature drama anyway, given the ages and career levels of most of these designers.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1326120071 Gaby Ripoll

        Package of what?

        • Anonymous

from the accent to the lingerie company to the money she already has to her ability to lie about her real background [or at least keep it under wraps for most of the season] to the sex tape to its euphemization as “intimate moments” to an anya bag or shoe that could easily be taken from concept to online department store, on & on: that package.

kenley is just a girl w/ an even outwardly derivative style who was born on a tugboat & threw a cat at her boyfriend. oh, & besides she yells at people. not much to work w/ there.

  • http://twitter.com/adleredneko Aki

Negl, I am so stoked for this.  I actually think that a new set of judges and a new mentor will be a welcome and refreshing change.  We’ll get to see just how much of the cray really is the producers and how much of it is the fact that Nina, Michael, Heidi and Tim have all been on the show so long they don’t care anymore (actually it’s likely a combination of both).

  • Anonymous

I’d like to see Joanna Coles in her star turn as Miranda in The Devil Wears Prada. I’ll be watching. But yes, I agree with Gaby – they’ll probably give the win to cute, controversial Kenley.

Nah, think I’m done. A world where Anya and Josh are judged more talented than Viktor and Bert is a world off its axis.

I’ll just happily let TLo tell me how it was.

Curious: will they have the super annoying Garnier Fructis infomercials within each episode? Will they have the Piperlime wall and the HP sewing room, blah blah. Damn, I hated that over the top product placement and have vowed never to use any of those products!

  • http://twitter.com/sockandaphone Gaby

im excited for Mondo to get the win he deserves :) Ill watch this because its an all-star cast and no newbies and stupid telenovela-style competition. Plus I kinda missed the show, despite the mess it has become. Also, Mondo.

  • Anonymous

I can’t wait to see Austin.  I like him so much that I can’t be objective about his designs.
And I’m glad to see a new judging panel (though sad Tim is gone) – although of course the Weinsteins had to muck it up by being nepotistic and elevating their sad sponsor rather than, say, rewarding past judges who had been worthwhile.  That said, I do think Isaac could be promising.

  • Anonymous

They lost me at “Miss Piggy”.  Plus, too much emphasis on late season designers. I’ll pass.

  • Anonymous

Of course I’ll have to watch. Unfortunately I’m not familiar with all of the faces since I haven’t watched every season.

Ice queen Joanna Coles as mentor? Gee, what fun. Apparently they want everyone scared shitless. All the time.

  • http://www.ttelroc.blogspot.com Kristin_The_Goat

Even though I was terribly disappointed with the previous season, I can’t help but watch.  I want to see what is created.  When they pick a ghastly fabric, I’m fascinated how they pull it off or fall face first.  The All Stars in January – sign me up!  I’m glued to the TV…well, the DVR.  I fast forward through commercials so I rarely watch anything live.

  • Anonymous

Will Georgina Chapman wear a dominatrix outfit and carry a whip during her “mentoring” or will that be left up to our imagination?

One of these things is not like the others … why is Ms. 10th Place here again?

      Because she spits on fabric.

I know, it’s stupid. She’ll be out first.

  • Anne Lucchesi

I have to see this, just because the skill level will be so. much. higher.

Although I am hugely curious as to why everyone else was at least top 5 in their season and Elisa snuck in here. And how much would I die to see Uli or Jillian again? SO MUCH. Sigh.

    Go Gordana!

  • Patsye Peebles

Since I love Austin so much I even watched the Austin and Santino show I will definitely be there.

  • Beth Reed

    Miss Piggy? Life = MADE.

  • Toto Maya

The horrible quality of the clothes the last two seasons is what has been turning me off more than anything. It just all looks so shitty. I can’t stand it. But with this show, the clothes should be good because I’ve seen good from these people before. I’m looking forward to it.

  • Anonymous

I am so conflicted about this. It will be nice to see a PR without the bleating of Kors and sad level of talent that’s been the show the past few years, and I really love some of these designers and am dying to see what Austin will do with those scrubbies, but I really don’t want to watch anything done by BM ever again. Ever. Again.

Joanna Coles scares me. She’s like the nightmare mom of the prissiest girl in school, who will whip your ass blood-red if you drop so much as a crumb on her carpet.

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Would not miss it for the world.  I do agree that Tim Gunn will be missed.

  • http://twitter.com/starvewars Sal

sweet p again?? come on now there’s loads of other designers who deserve that spot considering she already did series 1 of all stars.

  • margaret meyers

They will make this year’s cast look like they need some schooling.

  • Pennymac

Vascillating. I want to cancel cable cause its gotten so outrageous, but I’m probably going to need a 12 step program for my AMC/Bravo/Discovery shows. Anyone know how long after airing are the episodes up on the interwebs? PR was no fun this year, but this all star cast has me VERY interested. Just not at $$ per month.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Check into streaming.  I know this will be up online and you can probably get a lot of your shows via Netflix or Amazon streams.  Of course, you’ll need a decent broadband internet connection for that — so take that into consideration.  But I know Amazon Prime is $72 a year (and includes free 2nd day shipping on all your orders) and lets you stream content from them, and Netflix isn’t pricey, especially compared to cable.

Both of them will give you a free trial period to find out if the stuff you want is available through them.

  • Anonymous

*raises hand* it took me until I read the contestant/season/position list at the end for me to remember that Mondo didn’t win.  I was all “why is Mondo the only winner?  Is he doing that badly?”  Then I got to, “Wait, Mondo was runner up?  Oh. yeah.”

  • Anonymous

We’ll see.  I’ll probably watch the first episode or two and if BM sticks with the dramarama/tell a pre-ordained story route, I’ll step off the PR train again and experience it through T Lo.  I’ve already axed PA, didn’t watch either the PR8 or PR9 finales or reunion shows, and stopped watching the PR after-show midway through the first episode. It gets easier each time.

As we’d say back home in Lebanon about Rami “Yiy!  A’alaina!”  We’d also say a few other things but good taste prevents me from typing them here…

    I’ll watch, dammit.

  • Anonymous

There should be a rule that everyone who is an all star has to have finished between 2nd and 5th place. That way I wouldn’t have to deal with Elisa and instead I could have Uli or Chris March or Althea (or any number of other people really).

  • Anonymous

Miss Piggy will be a judge? I am so in!

  • Anonymous

Also I’m sort of intrigued for Joanna Coles. She seems like a much more obvious choice for permanent judge than mentor but I’m curious.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CQPXLNCBM5CZSHZZXJDHPVFS7E Buffy

I’ll be watching, PR is like a drug by now.  No matter how bad it is, no matter that you know you’ll hate yourself for doing it, no matter that it’s time you’ll never get back…  This at least has designers that we know are talented so I’m excited about that and looking forward to seeing who has evolved the most since their original turn on PR.  Hopefully with new judges/mentor they will give the win to someone who really deserves it, not someone they feel bad about not giving it to previously (because as much as I love Daniel V., Uli or Korto should have won the previous All-Star show.  Love Mondo, Gordana, Mila, April, Anthony & Austin.

  • Anonymous

Hurrah!  I would watch for Mondo, Kara, and Austin alone.  And, I’m sorry to say, I’m ready for a vacation from Tim Gunn.  So looking forward to this.  As for mentoring, most of these peeps have been mentored to death … I say let them roll it out as they see fit.  Just hope we get some decent judging — some fairness would be a great start.

As long as the judges know what the heck they’re talking about – you rock, Miss Piggy – awwww. who am I kidding? It’s going to be a train wreck with tons of product placement and great clothes. I’ll watch for the clothes and to see Kenley get her posterior kicked off early. I’ll watch because I love Miss Anthony and Mondo. I’ll miss Tim, but not enough to watch the next season of PR.

  • http://profiles.google.com/nariman.c.alkhatib Nariman Alkhatib

I like how everyone is 5th place and up then you have Elisa Jimenez (New York, NY) – Season Four, 10th Place… lol.. im betting she’s gone episode 1

  • Anonymous

    I can’t wait!

I do find it striking that there’s such a huge gap between the contestant with the worst performance on their previous season (Elisa the spit-lady at 10th place) and the next ones up (April, Sweet P, and Anthony at 5th).

And I am dying to see what Austin does with those brillo pads.  I just know it will be brilliant.

  • Anonymous

I’ll watch it but I’m not counting on BM (hey – I just realized BM is the exact initial moniker for this horrible company) to make it anything watchable.  Perhaps if I turn the sound down I can just look at the pretties coming down the runway.  No Tim?  I’ll bet he’s pissed off at the whole she-bang.

One of these thiiiiings isn’t like the ooooother, heh. I just think it’s humorous that we have all these top 5 designers and then out of nowhere ELISHA. I guess it goes to show you that at the end of the day Lifetime!PR loves them some crazy characters over talent. I wonder if she’s going to do some interpretive dance to the fabric to soothe its chakras.

  • Anonymous

all-stars is a whole different kettle of fish ~ these (for the most part) weren’t people SELECTED by b-m, an important distinction imo.  they’ve shown a predilection for picking reality tv tropes over talented designers, so whatever mock drama or “twists” they craft won’t affect the basic fact that we’re dealing with seriously talented folk, no question.

but can i just say:  i -L-O-A-T-H-E- the idea of joanna coles in the tim gunn role!!!  an analogy, just for fun…  joanna coles : tim gunn :: komodo dragon : kitten.
