Pairs Division: Clooney and Keibler

Posted on November 17, 2011

We’ve been staring at these pictures all day, feeling ambivalent and yet unable to fight the urge to form opinions. Once you put a picture of a celebrity on a red carpet in front of us, it all gets terribly Pavlovian, even if we can’t quite work up the spit.

George Clooney and Stacy Keibler attend the premiere of “The Descendants” in Los Angeles. Stacy Kleiber is wearing a Naeem Khan gown.

Naeem Khan Spring 2012 Collection

But we feel compelled to rate them, so let’s get to it.

SHE: Makes us a little sad somehow. She just looks like she’s Trying. So. Hard. This dress changes its shape significantly on a tall gal with a rack on her. It looks low-key chic on the model but totally Vegas on Stacy.  Whatever style the look might have had is pushed out of the way for Hello Boobs! The overdone hair and makeup isn’t helping either. An up ‘do and a soft lip could have turned this car back around toward Classy Town. Score: 5/10. We feel bad now.

HE: Is kind of annoying us here. Your lady friend is putting so much work in and you’re wearing suit #42 paired with shirt # 116. Not an ounce of effort to be found anywhere in this look. Further, by dressing down, you’re only making her look more absurdly overdressed and attention-seeking than she already does. This is unchivalrous dressing, George. For shame. Show your lady a little respect. Score: 5/10. A tie, a better-fitted suit, an interesting shirt; show us something next time, okay?

Combined Score: 5/10. George, do the gentlemanly thing and start making the effort. Stacy, take a deep breath and relax – but not in that dress.

Hey, it’s a bit more elegant than her previous outings with George. Give her a few more and she may nail it. I need her to take on a sleek, Calvin Klein-esque gown, she could look sublime.

And I get that it’s their private lives and I shouldn’t judge and whatever, but the more George Clooney and Leonardo Dicaprio add on to their revolving door of interchangeable hot girlfriends, one after another, the less seriously I can take them.

      • Anonymous

You are so right. A sleek CK type gown would be perfection on her.

    • Anonymous

Yup, I agree. I really don’t like that boobs hanging out style. I think it is just tacky and unnecessary. A hint is better than a show, methinks.

    • Anonymous

Oh George, you’re being touted for an Oscar.  As my Mom would say, “look like SOMEBODY.”  He just looks like the banker from happy hour…while his lady friend looks like she’s going to break into “Moanin’ Low” at any second over a highball.

      • Anonymous

        Your mom gives good advice!

    • Anonymous

Her hair bothers me more than anything. George is looking boring, which should never happen.

      • Anonymous

True. That hair looks as if it was curled, set and sprayed to within an inch of its life.
Kind of reminds me when “older” gals pull out their curlers ever so carefully and then don’t shake the hair out so it looks natural. You can see the shape of the curlers. Not good!

        • Anonymous

Yes, I totally want to put my fingers in those curls and shake them out. The retro starlet hair really isn’t working for her. How about some Duchess Kate hair instead.

    • Anonymous

George looks incredibly under dressed for the Los Angeles premiere of a movie that he stars in and that is getting Oscar buzz.  He looks like he just doesn’t care to make an effort.  She is wearing the wrong dress for her figure, but it does seem appropriately dressy for the occasion.

    • margaret meyers

What she really needed to do was pull  d o w n  on the back of the dress just above the waist, or have her dresser lash the back of the bodice to her waistband .  The shoulders have fallen forward and now the neckline is showing her tummy, which isn’t attractive.  The beaded chiffon in that cowl neck is so heavy it is pulling the bodice down.

      • Anonymous

        Just so.

      • http://twitter.com/MFMblog MusingsFromManhattan

        you’re totally right. great assessment

    • MilaXX

Completely agree with you scores. I only know Stacy from her stint on Dancing with the Stars, but she seems pretty cool and carefree.  Here she looks all fake and plastic.  George not only looks under dressed, for the first time instead of dashing older gent, I’m getting old man from his look.

      • Anonymous

That’s where I know her from too, and I feel bad for being a hater, because she seemend like such a fun, likeable girl.
But it has to be said. That’s not her dress.

        • MilaXX

I know and George has sucked all the fun out of her.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bernd-Hilbert/1191245573 Bernd Hilbert

How can you say that? He doesn’t look a day over 60, parading his daughter around.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

So sad. He won’t marry you, girl. Get out, while you are still pretty.

      • Sobaika Mirza

That’s where I know her from too, she was great and really likable. Maybe all glammed up isn’t her type of look? Some people are better suited towards jeans and a t-shirt.

        • MilaXX

She looked just find in those OTT dance get ups. I think she’s wearing even more makeup in this picture with George. That’s not a good thing.

    • Anonymous

They seem like such a mismatched couple for some reason. It always looks to me like he’s hired her from the escort service for the evening. The tacky boobage overexposure isn’t helping either. George just looks like he’s barely going through the motions.

      • Anonymous

I have said that too; they just don’t look right together. She’s a beautiful girl and he’s, well he’s George Clooney, but they look mismatched.

        • Anonymous

Even their body language together is off.

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

George can still make my insides melt, but he’s looking more and more like an out-of-town businessman out for the evening with his hired friend. He always looks so tired and bored with her.

    • Anonymous

She really looks bad here and they don’t look at all comfortable together. I’m guessing this partnership won’t last long.

    • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

Big boobs are fabulous. That being said, owners of said boobs need to know what works to highlight the girls and what makes them (and you) look cheap. Stacy looks cheap, and that’s a shame.

    • Anonymous

In the immortal words of Michael Kors: “I see boobies!”

      • Anonymous

Hey, my nephew as a 2 year old some two decades ago exclaimed that when he burst into my bedroom as I was dressing.  So the Duchess snitched from a tot in the Midwest back in the late 1980s.

    • Anonymous

She looks like she has fake drag queen boobs – why are they so shiny????

      • Sobaika Mirza

I believe there’s a fair amount of makeup and/or highlighter that celebs use for events where they’re showing some skin.

    • Anonymous

Their age difference is showing. I almost expect him to say, kindly, over coffee, “you know honey, your sternum is lovely but you just look uncomfortable in that neckline.”

I dunno. I’ll give her a 6.5 out of 10, though I don’t really disagree with your analysis. I just associate marks as low as 5 with more heinous errors.  Her hair looks ‘period’ to me, with those obviously roller-set curls. I can almost smell the Dippity-Do.

He gets – this is tough. Yes, he needs to wear a tie if his date is dressed up. But he looks great in a suit, is he to be dinged so hard because his suits are a bit of a uniform, staid and not always sharp as a knife?  Maybe I give him too much credit for his shoes, always unexceptionable.  In general, he looks here as if he’s “relaxed” following a couple of drinks or was just a little tired that evening and not really up for the event.  7/10 because I just can’t rate him any lower for needing to wear a tie and looking his age.

Combined: 6.75. And, unless extreme cleavage is his weakness, she needs to re-think the nuances of red carpet appearances whilst she’s on his arm.

      • Cathy S

        Excellent analysis. Right on target.

    • Anonymous

This photo does not give off even a smidgeon of chemistry between the two of them.  I am forced to admit that Mr. Clooney didn’t make much effort here, and somehow it shows in his expression and stance.

Her appearance almost is earnest in its attempt to… accomplish/send whatever message she thought she should telegraph.  But the delivery failed.

      All the best,

      NDC

    • aimee_parrott

Wow.  I love me some Clooney, and I actually think you’re being generous with that 5/10.  Come on, George.  A little effort.

She looks tacky, and it’s a shame because she’s really lovely and TALL and I think she needs to either fire her stylist (assuming she has one) or hire one (assuming she doesn’t).

      • Anonymous

Yeah, and she has good posture, too. Good posture is sorely underrated these days.

    • Anonymous

If I were her I wouldn’t put in the effort; isn’t she about to reach her Clooney Expiration Date??

    • Anonymous

Bleh. She’s too tall for him.
Call me, George. Even in my highest heels, I won’t be taller than you. :)

    • Anonymous

absolutely. George, put on a damn tie.

    • Anonymous

Love the dress on the model, but it’s not working at all on her.  And as a couple they look so wrong together.

    • Sara__B

This makes me sad. Clooney looks like a tired old man with trophy wife #6, and Keibler looks like she’s trying too hard to stave off the approach of wife #7.

      • Anonymous

Boy, you said it, and you said it well.  Gives me a sad. Something is just off here–including Clooney’s tie, which he should have been wearing–and it just feels all wrong.  Like, six months from now, he’ll have his arm around some other babe, and no one will remember her name.  Hollywood.  Go be a star!

    • Joyce VG

I’ve always thought she was a very pretty woman.  I think she’s pulling off the dress. George does nothing for me tie or no tie.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1046681022 Paula Berman

She’s not pulling off the dress: the dress is pulling off her. ::rimshot::

    • Anonymous

Wait, this is the premiere of the movie? Somehow I missed that part until I read karena10’s post. The premiere? In LA? And he’s dressed like that? TLo, you guys are so on the money. Unchivalrous.

She looks not so great, bless her heart. In fairness to her, I don’t think the dress looks wonderful on the model, either.

    • http://twitter.com/essveeup Sarah Veenstra

Not only does it make her look like an octogenarian desperate to get her Vegas show back, she looks wider than him. Most disconcertingly, whoever her spray-tan-artist was, appears to have left a rather large streak on her left boob, if not a tricky camera glare-flare. Oy.

      • Anonymous

I was thinking the streak was highliting makeup, altho I don’t know why she thought the girls needed further hilighting in that dress!

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catherine-Rhodes/602850414 Catherine Rhodes

Good point, what is that glare?

    • Anonymous

“Tlo said: She just looks like she’s Trying. So. Hard.”

But in her defense, she knows she’s going to be photographed by the world’s paparazzi standing next to George Clooney, and all the endless disection and speculation that goes with it. That would make even the most secure woman run screaming into the night. I’m thinking that being Clooney’s arm candy is a no-win situation.

Here’s the rule: if your lady is wearing a floor-length gown, guys, you’d damn well better put on a tie.

I cannot believe how lazy some of these guys are.

    • http://www.facebook.com/prettymuchalltheway Kat Schnepp

i think she look beautiful, actually. but, against all odds, i’m finding to be kind of a King Douche lately.

    • Anonymous

I have to agreed. Lately, Mr. Clooney has just been phoning it in and it’s getting old. I’m sure he can find a tie somewhere – right?

    • Anonymous

I completely agree with your assessment. He’s phoning in his outfit and she looks scared to death of that dress. It’s wearing her. She has a nice smile, but her body language is very tense and he’s not helping her. Be a gentleman, George.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catherine-Rhodes/602850414 Catherine Rhodes

It’s a fact that most well-endowed women learn at some point in life — we just can’t wear a lot of the clothes that other women can wear. Deal with it. Dress the body you have. She looks tacky, tacky, tacky. Well-said with the Vegas reference. She just needs one of those big headdresses and she’s ready for the 11 pm show.

    • Anonymous

Very confused with these two. Maybe he looks better with brunettes. George just looks pale and tired. Couldn’t agree more about Stacy. She’s just trying too hard. I don’t mind the dress, it’s just all the shiny skin surrounding it.  Get a new make-up/hair person; stick with the pretty dresses while they are coming your way…your Clooney Clock is ticking.

    • Anonymous

I think TLo have nailed it: he has the luxury of dressing down because he’s, well, him, and he doesn’t have all that much to prove anymore.  She’s way dressed up because she’s got a lot more to prove.  But his under-dressing, which makes her look over-dressed, only underscores the power differential between them, and that’s not really something a gentleman should do to a lady who is accompanying him to an event.

    • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

Yeah, hate the hair on her. And that’s the most disheveled and old-looking as I’ve ever seen him. And I’m a big Clooney fan…

    • Judy_J

I never thought I’d live to see the day when I thought George looked less than gorgeous, but here it is.  He’s sported this particular look once too often, and it’s just not working any longer.  She does look like she’s trying too hard, and it is not becoming to the lady.  They both need a good talking to.

    • Anonymous

Who knows what all this looks like in person but, stunning as she is, she photographs vulgar no matter what she has on.  He looks tired.  The hair is kind of Mildred Pierce or Veda Pierce — and the dress, by a designer I’ve never much cared for, is a walking talking cliche.  She does have a lovely smile — as does he.  He seems alive in the second photo.  After awhile, these openings must just leave a beyond middle-aged guy weary.  AND she’s his new girlfriend … I mean, come on (Kors tm), can you imagine the effort involved?  She’s an Amazon!

    • Anonymous

These two totally do not look like a couple. George is doing his handsome slightly bored distant man impression and she is quite lovely and well toned, but a little slutty here; and they each are standing in two invisible boxes of their own. I really love George as an actor, I think he is often phenomenal, but in couple photographs, he always leaves me a bit chilled.

    • Anonymous

Her look is so terrible (“Trying” is a perfect description) that all I see is a lecherous old man and a mail order bride.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kelsey-Albrecht/100001647200441 Kelsey Albrecht

She looks like a plastinated Kim Cattrall.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1046681022 Paula Berman

Why did she alter the fit of the dress to make it a V to the navel?  It makes an otherwise classy dress look tacky as hell.

    • Anonymous

I just fucking hate George Clooney these days.  What a tosser.

    • Anonymous

She looks likes she’s trying for 1940’s glam Barbie and it’s a little sick making.

    • http://twitter.com/KateKealey Katharine Kealey

After watching these two for a while, I’m starting to think Clooney has a heavy hand in styling his ladies. Stacy Keibler is a lovely girl, but she started out as a professional wrestler on WWE and her style pre-Clooney was a lot more laid back and fun, and yes sometimes bordering on slutty. But I feel that for as pretty as she is, this really isn’t her style and I get the sense that Clooney foists this kind of old-Hollywood style on his lady-of-the-moment. Can’t begrudge her for seizing her time with Clooney, but it often comes off as unnatural. A little stepford-y.

    • Anonymous

George, goodness knows you’re one of the few guys who can pull off the no-tie stuff, but for the love of pete, can’t you, just once, ahem, rise to the occasion? Please? For your girlfriend at least?

    • Anonymous

I just think it may be time for George to come out and admit that these women are just covers, as his true romantic devotion is for round elderly British nannies in sensible shoes with a great spanking arm. Really, what other explanation can there be?

    • Anonymous

I don’t know if I will ever not find her tacky :/

    • Anonymous

      Too much titty.
Poor thing, she’s running so hard to keep up but she just stays in the same place. Ol’ George looks like he just doesn’t give a shit.

    • Anonymous

I gotta say, this new woman with her trying-too-hard-and-can’t-tone-down-the-garish-no-matter-what makes me question his orientation, and not for the first time.

    • Anonymous

Clooney looks better with dark haired women.

      • Anonymous

        that’s hysterical.

Does she have a cold? Her chest is so shiny that I was wondering whether she’d slathered it with Vicks.

    • Anonymous

She looks very 1991.  They are an odd couple to say the least.

    • Anonymous

Another one waiting for the technician to give her a mammogram. He looks sad (even smiling), saggy, and a bit bloated. What an awful-looking couple. I give them a 2.0.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CQPXLNCBM5CZSHZZXJDHPVFS7E Buffy

She has lovely posture, doesn’t she?  I like the hair this time around.  Totally agree about George, he looks like he’s phoning it in.

    • Anonymous

DISagree with you boys on her.  She is a WERQ.

    • Basil Von Broccoli

She’s basically dressed as an Oscar here, isn’t she?

    • Anonymous

He isn’t all that, and I’m tired of all the fawning over him.

She is pretty and has a nice figure…but this look is soooo tacky.  Her hair and makeup age her considerably and the cleavage screams low class.  I feel like she’s trying to put on airs to meet “his level”..but she falls short.  Tacky arm candy of the moment…

    • Anonymous

Either she is over-dressed for the occasion or he is under-dressed.

They just don’t go together here.   They kind of need to decide on how formal or causal they intend to be and dress accordingly.   The way it is it appears that she just wants any old excuse to put on a fancy dress.

    • Anonymous

Agreed, not showing either of them at their best. Too much — her. Not enough — him.

    • Anonymous

Totally agree with you guys. She desperately needs a simple, sleek gown that doesn’t plunge to her belly button. The worst kind of tacky.

    • Anonymous

What is she supposed to be here? A 1950s Vegas Greek goddess? Veronica, Patron Saint of Sparkly Fake Tans? Making her pretty does not equal making her conform to someone else’s ideal.

    • Anonymous

These two are just ODD together.  He looks like her father, and I LIKE George Clooney as an actor.  For some reason this poor girl ALWAYS leans a bit toward the tacky side.  Not sure why, because she is really beautiful.  She has the body for this dress, but something is just not right.

    • Anonymous

      Those boobs look so fake.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Hey, why should Stacy relax?  She knows its simply a matter of time before “George, the serial Monogamist” moves on to his next hottie arm decor.

    • Anonymous

This dress changes its shape significantly on a tall gal with a rack on her.
Yep, once again, you nailed it. At first I thought I hated the gown, but then when I scrolled down and saw it on the model, I thought, “Oh, it’s actually quite lovely.”  Keep the bears in the cage, Keibler.

    • http://www.facebook.com/amaezm Scott Raveling

I’m going to say it…what the hell is wrong with her face?   Dr 90210 on a meth binge? also..that suit? Stafford casual collection from JC Penny?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IHWCJIMARF4OOW6PQZQS3RFOOA JillK

Man, he looks old and tired.

    • allisan riddle

Stacey allofasudden looks old here…She is trying (too hard sometimes, yes), but she needs new people – something! Her BF is on the Oscar hunt and she needs to pick up the pace. I hate to say I’m a little bit over George these days. I will always love him deep down and his morphing into Cary Grant rocks my socks…but I need a break from him. I think a 5/10 is perfect for their half-assed efforts.

    • foodycat

I think if you are going to have the translucent powdered-down makeup on your face, you really need to carry it down to the cleavage instead of whatever illuminating stuff she’s got going on there.

    • Anonymous

I think it must be nerve-wracking to be George’s “new girl.” Can you imagine? I’d probably become a blithering idiot. I think she’s just showing her insecurity through her wardrobe and make-up choices, as TLo pointed out. What bothers me most about this look is her lipstick and hair. She looks like a stewardess from the 1950s, out on the town and hoping to catch a man before it’s “too late.”

    • Anonymous

This is one of those gowns with so little structure that it can move all over the place depending on the shape, posture, and movement of the wearer. Stacy’s been trying for a more upscale look since she’s been dating George but she needs someone who can actually figure out how to dress her fabulous shape.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Katie-Heim/708520610 Katie Heim

Yall are crazy-town. She looks great. WORK THOSE TITTIES, GIRL!

    • oohsparkley!

It might have helped her to use some boob tape to keep the shoulder seams in place.  I think that draped neckline is pulling down the front.  The model must have taped it up.  Not really digging that hairstyle in this situation.  That first picture is bad of Clooney, it’s really stumpifying him.

    • Anonymous

I feel like they both look…fine.  But I’m just so bored.  They look exactly the same as they do at every other appearance.

    • Anonymous

My god that man is beautiful.

“Makes us a little sad somehow. She just looks like she’s Trying. So. Hard.”
THIS. I don’t even know her and I’m over her. Bores me to death.

    • Anonymous

Yeah, that boob drape became total Mae West material on her.  So lovely on the model…..  Is it just me or does George always look less than when photoed with a woman?  Solo – great, sexy, confident.  Next to woman all dressed up – bored & boring.

    • http://twitter.com/anacedillo Ana Cedillo

yeah yeah why did she get this dress? i would have loved to see this one someone else like mila on the red carpet. damn disappointed

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Children, we are missing the larger point….they are on the outs. They look mismatched because they are mismatched. He looks bored and disengaged because he is. She looks like she is trying too hard because she is. Estimated time of relationship-implosion: 1 month.

    • Anonymous

I love the dress on her. I think “Hello! Boobs!” is actually the entire point of a get-up like this and it’s something that in principle I endorse. Would have toned down the make up and maybe employed an up-do instead to soften the look, though. And George needs to step it up a bit.

    • Anonymous

That dress is so lovely on the model.  Sigh.
