Lady Gaga in Aquilano. Rimondi

Posted on November 14, 2011

Did you know that Lady Gaga is not like you? We understand if you need a moment to compose yourself after this shocking news. When you’re ready, examine the pictures.

Lady Gaga leaves her hotel in London while having her tea.

You see, if you would like a relaxing and soothing cup of tea, then you have to go to the breakroom or your kitchen and nuke an old, cracked coffeecup full of water, then plop a bag in it and wait a minute. If you’re Lady Gaga, you put on yet another loaned expensive designer dress, shoes and jewelry, along with a killer pair of shades,  grab a hot phalanx of bodyguards (including our beloved Ginger Handler. We see you there, you sneaky thing!), and then parade around on the street in front of photographers with your little teacup. Why? Because you’re Lady Gaga and you can do that sort of thing, you see.

I actually like her outfit better with the longer top.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

I see. I do. I totally see! My kids just got home and we are sitting here looking at this post and we are in love. Taking her tea cup with her. That is just a riot? Where does she come up with this stuff? And her fabulous sense of humor aside, I absolutely am in awe of this dress and the shoes. Gorg!

    • Anonymous

Love this Gaga look.  Love the sunglasses, and love how even the teacup coordinates with her outfit.  On the other hand, I think the dress looks better with the shirt tucked in.

      • Anonymous

I agree, but given how short she is (my height, so I know this from experience), tucking one’s top in can make one look cut in half and quite dumpy.

    • Eclectic Mayhem

Hooray for the great British cuppa, for Hot Ginger Handler and for the Remembrance Poppy Lady Gaga is so thoughtfully sporting.

      • Anonymous

Yes, glad to see her wearing a poppy. She always seems like a caring person to me.

      • Anonymous

Yes to all three above (perhaps less so for the ginger handler as I’m ging myself), but I do wonder why she’s wearing the poppy on her right side…It should always be worn on the left, over your heart in remembrance.

        • Anonymous

A social faux pas, which her peeps should have checked out. Or maybe it’s just that her hair was in the way.

          • http://twitter.com/OperaSickness Opera Sickness

Also, a lady would remove her gloves to drink tea.  Her peeps are getting lazy.

        • http://dandelion.livejournal.com/ Jenna

Actually, the Royal British Legion specifies that there isn’t a correct side: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8333733.stm

Thanks for the link, I guess I took convention as being the general rule :)

I feel like if you’re Lady Gaga, it’s not too much to ask for her to design an entire outfit that’s a Remembrance Day poppy.

But it is nice to see her wearing it, especially with such a nice outfit.

    • Sobaika Mirza

SHE LOOKS GORGEOUS! Never thought I’d say that about her.

      • Anonymous

        Agree!

    • Anonymous

I love that dress! The whole image is hilarious, though. Good for her.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Though I love this on principle, that top is not fitting her quite as it should.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WKSM57KFWUGRMKPDUW4SPL3GDM Kathryn

Gaga + TLo’s comments about Hot Ginger Handler!  Doesn’t get any better than than!  Hilarious!

      • Anonymous

I wonder if Hot Ginger Handler knows he has a fanbase? It’d be a shame if the admiration was going under his radar. Maybe if he knew he’d turn up shirtless to work or something.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WKSM57KFWUGRMKPDUW4SPL3GDM Kathryn

I wonder that, too.  I hope he knows.

        • Chantelle James

I’ve wondered that, too. I did some research and apparently his name is Ed, although I think I like Hot Ginger Handler better.

    • Anonymous

Should have tucked it in.  I’m happy when I can see her face which is so interesting — so clasically Italian.  And now I have to go look-up the Remembrance Poppy because everyone seems to be wearing it and I have no idea what it represents.  Good photo of the Daywalker, I mean, Ginger.  Are her shoes each a different colour?

      • Anonymous

During the first world war, northern France and Belgium were decimated, and it was during the war that the poem Flander’s Fields was penned, after the region of Flanders, one area where poppies grow. It goes back to images of soldiers lost in the first world war buried in Europe around whose graves poppies grow.

        • Anonymous

Thank you so much for the explanation.  I do appreciate it.  A new way, I guess, of recognizing Armistice Day.

          • Anonymous

No. An old way. And when I was a kid in the ’50s, they used to hand out plastic poppy pins in the public schools on Armistice/Veterans Day.

November 11 is also Kurt Vonnegut’s birthday, and he always preferred the term Armistice Day to commemorate when the shooting stopped.

        • Anonymous

“In Flanders fields, the poppies grow
Between the crosses, row on row.”

        • Anonymous

Also, tons of poppies grew wild all over the front.  All the explosives kicked up the soil and fostered more plant growth , and the popppies especially loved it.  The ground, I am sad to say, was especially fertile because of all the bodies decomposing in it.

    • Anonymous

I love everything here from the tea cup to the ginger handler.

    • Anonymous

Do you think she really uses loaned clothes? I kind of assumed she had some incredibly massive archive somewhere.

      • http://www.tomandorenzo.com Tom and Lorenzo

Virtually all celebrities wear borrowed clothing for public appearances.

        • Anonymous

In the case of Gaga, for some reason this fact makes me sad. I have this image in my head of a closet the size of KoP (mall) filled with her outfits and caretakers treating them like royalty.

          • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I agree. And now we know that the wardrobes of most celebrities consist primarily of jeans, slogan t-shirts, and yoga pants.

KoP Mall! Makes me a little homesick.

        • MilaXX

part of why they name drop. It’s free advet for the designer

      • MilaXX

I think she borrows/is paid to wear as much as any other celeb

    • Anonymous

What’s up with the apple-style pin? It’s the same one worn by Bill and Kathy here:

Aha! Thanks bluefish. Remembrance Poppy. Mystery solved.

        • Anonymous

Not just British. I keep saying here that my WWII Veteran dad (born Brooklyn, NY) always bought one and tied it onto his rearview mirror. If I get the chance I always buy one and do the same, too. I’ve bought them in NYC, NJ and MA.

      • Anonymous
      • http://www.facebook.com/CatherineKatz Catherine Katz

It’s a remembrance poppy.  It shows respect for those who died in war.  Mostly a British Commonwealth tribute.

        • Anonymous

My dad was a WWII vet and we always bought the poppies in November in the US. I really haven’t seen them much in the last decade. I remember when i was a kid that members of Veteran’s groups used to sell them on street corners and in front of grocery stores. The youngest WWII vets are now well into their 80’s so the practice is likely dieing out here.

          • Anonymous

Are they supposed to be worn on the left side in Britain, do you know? Or does it not matter? Bill and Cathy have been wearing theirs on the left all month, and I think the leaf is supposed to point to 11 o’clock.

            • Anonymous

Left side, over your heart.  In England I’m not sure how long they are supposed to wear the poppy, but in Canada it’s typically all of November.  But, seeing that Bill trained at Sandhurst as did his bro, he supports the military.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1326120071 Gaby Ripoll

Covet those sunglasses. That is all.

(Also, doesn’t she just randomly carry teacups regardless of whether or not there’s actually tea in them? I heard it was just a prop. Meh.)

    • http://heartprintandstyle.blogspot.com Vivi N

      Those shades are amazing! *swoons*

    • http://twitter.com/DarthGail Gail Kwak

No, Lady Gaga is not like me.  I don’t cover up the fact that I have neither looks nor talent by dressing like a clown.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2Y7F3J3O3OCDZJ6VILTUGUHTX4 Sue

Huge props for walking across cobblestones with heels and carrying a teacup.  Mere mortals would not dare to tread

    • Anonymous

Love the glasses! Anyone know who designed them?

      • Anonymous

Also, are the lenses different shades of blue (left one looks darker) or is that just a trick of the light/angle?

    • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

I love the look on her face, she is adorable.

      • Anonymous

I’ve never seen her face look prettier.  And a lot of it is that truly adorable expression.

    • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I can’t decide which look I prefer – Gaga’s or the model’s. But I do think the individual pieces are beautiful. And those shoes are killer, in the best way possible.

The photo is cracking me up. I love that Lady G. is wearing gloves.

    • Anonymous

She looks phenomenal here. I love her when she does pretty, because I think it really tweaks a lot of people’s expectations, both about her and about cultural definitions of beauty.

I like the top both ways. And those shades will be mine, dammit.

Wait….she’s wearing the exact runway look? So not Gaga.

      • Anonymous

Totally off topic but I really want to do a Mad Hatter tea party themed Christmas tree this year, inspired by a pink and green present ornament I found. Thanks for the quote.

    • MilaXX

      *cracks up at the teacup*

    • Anonymous

Beautiful pieces, including that phenomenal periwinkle teacup, but I prefer the top and skirt on the model. I don’t like the untucked shirt over the voluminous skirt. It does really weird things to her proportions.

In a never-before-seen sartorial feat, Gaga made something look less interesting than originally designed.

    • Anonymous

Her shoes look pale lavender. Pretty everything. Love the shades. The teacup gives it all a Mad Hatter look, just so we know it’s Gaga. Her face is so young and unlined and pretty. Wow.

    • Anonymous

I’m afraid all the sunglasses conjure up for me is an aging Sophia Loren . . . .

      Goddess bless that woman!

That wig she is wearing looks horrible.  Somehow I can’t get past it.

    • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

Love the dress, like the way she wore it, but love it more on the model with the top tucked in with the waistline more defined.

    • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Urban Gypsy aka Tess

Celebrities are not like us. They can balance on precarious heels, navigating a cobblestone street, without spilling a drop of tea from their lovely hand-painted periwinkle heirloom teacups (I love me a Keeping Up Appearances reference).

She looks awesome. Those shoes and the sunglasses are to die for.

      • Anonymous

Love the dress, the shoes and especially the love the Hyacinth reference, but I bet she’d rate a beaker for taking the cup out of doors!

      • Anonymous

Mrs. Bucket! It would be a scream for there to be a skit between her and Gaga! They could do it for Red Nose Day.

      • iCouture

Gaga has definitely proven she can work a pair of heels like no other, no matter what she is stomping on!!  Love it.

    • Anonymous

Mostly love. Damn, those are killah shoes!

    • Terence Ng

I think she will age hilariously.

    • http://jessieliz.wordpress.com/ Super Red

I have this theory that there are several lady gaga’s. Seriously. What with all the crazy makeup and wigs that she goes out in, there are probably three or four of them that look similiar and take turns going out and looking ridiculous.

Also, I covet that outfit. Seriously. I have no idea when I would actually wear it. But I love it. Curius about the modifications… did the designer do that, or did gaga request it?

      • http://twitter.com/lbcubbison Laurie Cubbison

        She’s our own Queen Amidala!

Bizarre and fabulous.  I love it.

    • Anonymous

Oh, my God, with the cup. Is she NEVER spontaneous? Less is more, Gaga.
She’s just become so boringly predictable.

    • http://twitter.com/mellafe natalia h

She’s doing the cup thing again! This is my favorite of all her crazy things.

Also, I love the teacup. I wants it.

    • Lisa

Amazing!  She looks fabulous, and I love this tea theme!

    • http://tigergray.blogspot.com/ Tiger Gray

      Love.

    • Anonymous

Really like this look on her. The teacup loses me, but that’s Gaga.

    • Anonymous

LOVE that dress.  Will have to google the designer to see more.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catherine-Rhodes/602850414 Catherine Rhodes

I like this new Gaga permutation — instead of going for just plain weird (think: meat dress), she’s pushing the envelope on couture.

Must say I like the dress a lot better in its original form (on the model).

    • Joshua

At least she’s wearing a poppy.

    • http://twitter.com/hpenfield Hannah Penfield

I prefer this method of drinking tea.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1316070988 Roey Thorpe

I might be giving her too much credit here for social commentary, but when she sandwiches in these “society lady” looks between her most outlandish costumes, I like to think she’s making a statement about how upper east side ladies who lunch are as much in costume as she is on stage.  Maybe she’s not that insightful, but I like to think that it’s a possibility.

      • Anonymous

I’ll go for that. I think it’s hilarious as well as fabulous.

    • Mary McClelland

That is a stunning dress, but the drop waist and the proportions do nothing for her. She just simply can’t pull it off. She is too short for the proportions and it looks adorable and chic on the model. I also think the natural waist is a better look for the material and concept.

    • Anonymous

Wait!! This reminds me of a book I adored as a kid — Edith and the bears!? Anyone, anyone? Edith was a doll. Anyway, love this look completely except for the fright wig.

      • Anonymous

        Yes!! Edith. I remember. . . it’s vague, but it’s in there.

    • Anonymous

I wish I were fabulous enough–if only for an hour or two–to wear that killer dress.

And to priss around with my china cup, just to make sure you know I don’t give a shit what you think. :)

    • Anonymous

The more I see this woman, the less I care about her. Enough, already.

Y’know, I just don’t open up posts on people that don’t interest me. Easy.

    • Anonymous

I like how Handler matched his grey shirt to her dress.  No jr. executive white or blue for him.

    • http://twitter.com/BeantownMrs Praggya R. Barretto

Looks much better with the top tucked in. Naturally, everywhere one goes in London, one must carry around a teacup…

    • Anonymous

She’s totally making gaga eyes at hot ginger handler.

    • Anonymous

I don’t think the dress is altered. I think its a skirt and top and she just chose to wear the top over the skirt.
      Love the glasses.

Second picture from the bottom; she’s giving HGH -that’s Hot Ginger Handler- the ‘I know you’re going to be bigger than me one day’ side eye :D

    • Anonymous

Well kept secret:p   Lady Gaga and the Queen have tea together at least once a month ^~^

I just noticed the clasp with the pearl necklace, Chanel. Maybe it’s a brooch she attached to a regular pearl necklace? Clever.

    • Anonymous

Like the dress better on the model.  LOVE! LOVE! the shoes.

Love those sunglasses, and I love that she’s revisiting the teacup thing that she did a while back.

Well, I do like the teacup.

And how nice of her to offer a cuppa to Ginger Handler.

    • Anonymous

I’m sick of this chick. Wake me when she goes away.

    • Anonymous

I like the top both ways. It gives a different look to the outfit, but both work.

I wonder how many cups and saucers she breaks! Maybe there’s velcro on the bottom of the cup or something ;)

    • Anonymous

Sorry to be so late to comment, but did anyone notice (or maybe I’m seeing things) that the runway shoe photo is funny – it looks like the model forgot to shave her legs that day!

Re Gaga:  somehow the massive arm tattoo sorta ruins the demure look, at least for me.

      • Anonymous

i didn’t notice the stubble until you called my attention to it, but the foot looks slightly mutant, like the heel is put on sideways or something.  makes me uncomfortable just to look at it.  can’t say i love those shoes.  i did feel that the honkin’ tattoo was rather jarring at first, but it does add irony, and after all she is gaga- a work of art.

TenorRinger…are you in a bell choir?

        • Anonymous

Not a bell choir, per se – I ring bells in the English change ringing manner.  Did you listen to the bells being rung during Cathy and Bill Cambridge’s wedding at Westminster Abbey? That’s the type of ringing I do – the bells are rung in intricate patterns, rather than in a recognizable tune.  There are about 50 towers in North America that are fitted with English change ringing bells – unfortunately none in California, where I assume you’re from!

This wig always gives me Donatella Versace vibes, so not a huge fan of it, but I adore the rest!!!
I have seen other photo ops where she is actually drinking legit tea… or….. ermm…. something tea colored out of that cup before.

    • Anonymous

Great dress and shoes!  And is she looking at Ginger Handler like maybe the handling has been going both ways?  Couldn’t blame her for that……

    • Anonymous

      Oh, I love her.

Dialogue bubble above Gaga’s for 5th photo from the top:

“I will now pose in a way so the paparazzi will snap a side profile of HRH. This will be my gift to Tom and Lorenzo’s Gaga adoring bitter kittens. They have not seen the HGH side profile often. He has such a fine profile.”

Love the dress. I think we are still in the Alice in Wonderland period.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Micaela-Cannon/1465504041 Micaela Cannon

Oh Gaga, I love when you make yourself look like a grandmother. I just want her to style that wig into a bun with a center part and put on a shawl. From the neck up this is so ostentatious old lady.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Micaela-Cannon/1465504041 Micaela Cannon

PS Gaga seems to be giving HGH a verrrrrry saucy look in the one picture. Perhaps she also appreciates his appeal.

    • Judith Mignault

Oh!  The shorter top on the runway version is prettier.  Forgive me, Gaga, but the longer version you’re sporting, combined with that skirt, makes you look a little heavy bottomed.  Is there even tea in that teacup?  I wonder…

She’s been working a teacup for a while now. Also, yes, it’s spectacular that she makes such bold fashion choices and all, but don’t her clothes always seem to fit her a little strangely? With all the money in the world to spend on such things, shouldn’t better tailoring be on her agenda?

    • Anonymous

she looks cute. I love the (imagined?) statement of the above carrying product placement coffee so I carry a cup of tea :P she works.
