Kristen Stewart for Vogue Italia

Posted on November 07, 2011

We’re not gonna lie and pretend Kristen has a ton of presence here, because she doesn’t. But we’re endlessly fascinated with the various ways people attempt to style her and how the stylists of the world so often get her wrong. In our opinion, at least.

Kristen Stewart for Vogue ItaliaBut we think they got it just right here; a mix of fierce glamour with a bit of an edge and attitude to it. Nothing too edgy with KStew, because she’s just not that fussy a girl, but enough to make her seem disdainful of appearing in Vogue, while at the same time indulging in the excesses of it. Does that make sense? She should always have an edge to her styling, but it should be of the Mick Jagger variety; rolling its eyes at glamour while pursuing it with a vengeance.

She still can’t model all that well, sad to say. But she looks great here,

Wow, this is amazing. I have never seen her look so good. I  mean, I feel like someone finally GOT her, and now I’m digging it with the shovel of love. Those first two pics are gay gasp-worthy. I can’t wait to find out who she’s wearing, *pant, pant.*

  • { edi } ilovetrash

she always reminds me of kristy mcnicol, but the dress & the shoes second from the bottom are fabulous.

  • Ben

Love the one with the cigarette.

  • nicole seligman

these are awful. the only one i don’t hate is the photo in full profile.

  • Anonymous

She does look great, especially in the second and sixth pictures.  The last picture is my least favorite.

    • Anonymous

In those two pictures, she looks like Amanda Palmer.

      • Becca Robson

  • Laura Schultz

I think she looks pretty great here except for that last one…

  • Anonymous

When has she ever had presence? I mean, other than her usual sneering, eye-rolling, “Who just farted?” persona.

  • Alexandria

That hair style is so wildly unflattering on her.

  • Barbara Guttman

Ah.  I see she’s dead-eyed and open-mouthed once again.  She is the prettiest sea bass in town, but a sea bass nonetheless.  And in quite the unflattering do this time around.

I can’t even care about the clothes.  The girl and the location are so deadly boring that the clothes acquire the ripe scent of “flip right past me, you should only be reading this one for the articles.”

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

Oh Barbara, you’re killing me. Sea bass. hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee…….

    • Anonymous

I concentrated on looking at the photos from the neck down because I am with you, she is charmless.  The clothes are beautiful!

  • Anonymous

Loving all the clothing here (especially that skirt & top combo in the cigarette/attic shot). Yeah, she’s not much of a model, but you’re so right that this stylist got her vibe just right.

  • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

did they shoot her on the edward scissorhands set? cause thats what the last picture is saying to me

    • Stephanie Hao

It looks like the Sweeney Todd set to me. Although that could just be an excuse to amuse myself by imagining how much more fun these photos would be with a bloodstained trick barber chair and a razor-swinging Johnny Depp in them.

      • Axel Barré

Mercyful Zeus !!! I just see the photo shoot, and while i’m watching it, i’m like “humf, this window, and this floor remind me something” and the memory came back !! Sure that’s what they want we see… !!!

    • Irina Ryabchuk

I posted the same comment before reading further – totally agree with you!

  • Ass Kicking Adviser

I find her look – and presence – boring to the nth degree. That said, I would like to order the black coat and studded/shimmery dress. They will look better on me.

  • Julia Mills

honestly, a cigarette to look sexy and edgy? Disgusting.

    • Anonymous

I know. It’s especially distressing considering this month is Lung Cancer Awareness Month (it’s supposed to be global, anyway). At least it’s only one picture and is probably only there because she couldn’t figure out what to do with her hands or something.

  • Mariah J

…but she only has one facial expression. How she is an actress and the subject of photo spreads is beyond me.

  • Anonymous

Some of the dresses are nice and I love the colors, Kristen on the other hand, there is just no there, there.

  • Anonymous

WHY?  WHY IS KRISTEN STEWART IN ITALIAN VOGUE???  This is the girl who perpetually looks like she’s either:
    a) stoned
    b) just caught a whiff of dog shit
    c) been recently hit over the heat with a blunt instrument

She cannot give face to save her life.  What the HELL is she doing in one of the top fashion magazines in the world?

  • Anonymous

Hey, I’m just thrilled that her mouth is closed in a few of these, and I say that as a fan.

  • Anonymous

I think she looks pretty awesome.  Not exactly ‘deep,’ but awesome (modeling doesn’t always need deep).  And that next-to-last look?  The ribboned dress and shoes?? KILLA.  I bet somewhere Helena BC is calling her stylist and demanding that one!

  • Anonymous

I think when KStew overcomes her self-consciousness in her 30s she might be interesting. My theory is that in person she’s much more charismatic than she comes across on camera. She looks better than she usually does, love the clothes. But I too wish that photographers would stop telling people to open their mouths.

  • Emily

Love it.  Particularly love the silver top and studded skirt.  Awesome.

  • MilaXX

Love the makeup here. I think the stylizing work well, she’s not frilly or pretty girl. This works

  • Anonymous

Maybe I’m just being distracted by the pretty, but she doesn’t seem any more or less vapid than the average starlet. I don’t find her arresting or anything, but she does a good job of getting out of the way and letting the styling (which I quite like) carry the shoot.

  • Sobaika Mirza

Note to her acting coaches: try and adding a third facial expression to her repertoire.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Oh, Sobaika Mirza, I love you!

  • Anonymous

this is my favorite of all of her editorials to date, I love it.  She does have that glam/punk edge to her naturally and this really plays it up well.  I’m totally on board here…… I just caught her in one of her early movies the other night. “Panic Room” with Jodie Foster.  She was one of the highlights of this somewhat forgettable film.

  • Anonymous

She’s beautiful. But not interesting, not compelling in her bone structure. No photo shoot or dress can change that.

  • Anonymous

I didn’t know she could look this interesting! First quilted black coat [?] is fabulous.

  • Anonymous

I like her posing a whole heck better than her acting.

  • jeneria

How much longer will we have this no-talent sourpuss shoved down our throats?

  • Sara__B

Kristen Stewart always looks as if her short life has been marked by insufficient sleep, nutrition, exercise, showers, education, and fresh air. Is her appeal that she still manages to look pretty in a vacant, empty sort of way?

  • Anonymous

its all a little Rhianna circa “Umbrella” to me. You know right after she sold her soul or ehatevs

  • Aidan B

I’m glad to see that she’s learned to keep her mouth closed some of the time.

  • michelle shields

    blah blah blah blah blah

  • Ali

I disagree. I think she’s a jeans-type girl, through and through. Very natural, with tees and sneakers. This “edgy” look seems like just another costume from stylists who don’t understand a woman who’s uncomfortable in a dress.

  • Catherine L Kronenwetter

It’s the best I’ve seen her but that’s not saying much.  Actually I think that’s the set from Sweeny Todd, it’s totally the attic above the pie shop!

  • Anonymous

Dead eyes.   That’s what always strikes me about her.   She never has any emotion of any sort in her eyes.  I haven’t seen these movies, but it’s hard for me to believe she’s a good actress.

    • Anonymous

      She’s not.

  • Lindsay Walter

I do like her in the third and fourth, but in between shots someone apparently came in and stole her knees.  And her waist.  Why does she look like her boobs are sitting directly on her pelvis in those last two shots?

  • Rand Ortega

The W Mag’s Priscilla Pressley pics are the best, but these are nice.  Am I alone, or is this editorial channeling Winona Ryder circa Beetlejuice/Edward Scissorhands?

  • Anonymous

I mourn the gorgeous dress in the 4th picture, especially because Marion Cotillard werqed it (in the exact same pose, might I add) last year for Vogue so hard she made me desperately covet it.

Kristen Stewart puts the “blah” in “bland”. I will personally be relieved when they stop making her do these photoshoots.

  • Anonymous

    I like it.

  • Katie Sypher

I can’t get past the hair. Always stringy, oily, and gross. Please take a shower, KStew.

  • Anonymous

I love those shoes in the second picture from the bottom.

She’s a horrible model and hopefully we’ll stop seeing her in magazines soon

  • Anonymous

Clothes are gorge.  Would have been nice if they’d styled her hair differently, just ONCE.

  • Anonymous

I wish I had that green room.

    • Lattis

We have an ongoing discussion/argument in our house about color. Or color names. My mom had a car the color of that room and she called it her “blue” car. Which made me shake my head ruefully as it is clearly green. Now my sons and husband weigh in on the color of almost everything and you can’t believe the intensity with which four people can discuss the color of a school bus. Yellow? Orange? Orange-yellow? Yellow-orange?

      • Anonymous

Well I guess the walls  and throw could be called green blue-green and the couch and floors are kind of a brownish green or olive. I see the blue but there is more green in my opinion. Of course when you take the cyan filter into consideration , it’s impossible to tell what color the room  really is.
School buses are right in the middle of yellow and orange. So yellow-orange. Arbitrarily   when I see a school bus
I read it as yellow, but when I see a VW bus the exact same color I read it as orange.

  • Catherine Rhodes

Love the clothes, love the look. She would look right at home on stage with Bauhaus, circa 1985.

  • Anonymous

She really has the personality of a paper clip. There is just nothing there.

    • Anonymous

Ha. I just wrote the same thing. I don’t get the fascination with her. At all.

  • Anonymous

Seriously, I thought the last dress was one of the cow print snuggies at first glance. Love the one with the cigarette.

  • M N

That second photo makes me think she’d make a really hot androgynous bisexual rock star.

  •ía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

It’s all about the hair I think… She should try a toned down version of this for the red carpet. I know it’s kind of out there but the rockabilly on acid updo really highlights her cheekbones. The clothes are beautiful but she’s not wearing them well, the last two dresses are stumpifying and she looks like she’s swimming in a pool of fabric.

  • BerlinerNYC

I don’t understand that cow-print Snuggie she’s wearing in the last shot (isn’t that the same dress that whatshername wore recently and looked like a penis??), but otherwise she looks great…

It does look cozy for a nice evening on the couch, though…

  • Greg Yoder

I can see why she got to play Joan Jett.

  • Anonymous

“But we’re endlessly fascinated with the various ways people attempt to
style her and how the stylists of the world so often get her wrong.”

I’ve thought about this and maybe there just isn’t a way to style her. She can look pretty, but she never looks fierce. Or hot. Or interesting. Because there’s nothing there. I’ve never seen a huge star with less charisma.

  • Anonymous

What you’re saying does make sense. I just don’t think these work, at all. She’s a very pretty tough-girl-next-door. She could model Jordache jeans. That would work.

  • marshal hartman

I wish they’d stop shoving these personality-lacking celebrities in incredible clothes and taking beautiful pictures of them while they stand there and look bored or like they just farted. Save for a few (Rosie Huntington Whitely, Emily Blunt, Evan Rachel Wood etc), modeling for editorials should be left to models unless it’s glamour or beauty shots. It’s just wasted potential, otherwise.

  • Anonymous

I like your comment on her unpretentious pretentiousness. She lost me as soon as she said that all her teachers failed her because they wouldn’t give her special packets of homework while she went on to pursue her acting dream. Punk…and not in a good way. hope that vampire baby hurt, KStew!

  • Pinup Ghoul

She just looks uncomfortable to me, and the styling, while very pretty, just makes her look so blandly pretty. It’s not good, but it’s not bad, either. I like the lighting, though, and that quilted gown in the first shot.
This just does nothing for me. It could be bolder, I guess.

  • Anonymous

Is it me, or does she look sort of like P!nk in the second picture?

  • Sarah Adams

Meh. Sulky, sneering, dead eyed. What else is new?

  • Nico R

This is the set for Sweeny Todd… the barbershop above ms Lovett’s pub thing, where Johnny Depp shaved ppl n killed em n stuff.

  • Irina Ryabchuk

The location looks a little like Edward Scissorhands’ attic, but it’s a good thing. Love the third and the last look.

  • Yael Shuval

She really looks like Lisa Marie Presley in this one.

  • Yael Shuval

She really looks like Lisa Marie Presley in this one, I think.

  • Presumptuous Insect

If I ever see the day when this girl acquires fish lips and injects her forehead and her right eye collapses like Cindy Crawford’s, I’m gonna shit my pants.

  • RzYoung

She looks great here, could’ve done with a little something – anything- on the lip though.

  • NYCgirl

I have never come across so many sniveling b*tches in my life as you people. I met Kristen last year (Eclipse premiere, Crosby Hotel) when she was wearing the purple Roland Mouret mini. She was a KNOCKOUT. She spent 30 min signing autographs and taking pictures with her fans on 7″ stilettos on a cobblestones in sweltering June. Talk about fierce, she had it going on in spades. She couldn’t have been nicer and kept apologizing she had to go inside. She looked like a supermodel, walking all feline like. Her skin is flawless and her smile is transformative. Everything lights up including her gorgeous olive-green eyes .Which brings me to this photoshoot, and any high fashion shot. Why do people expect her to smile 24/7?? You don’t see models smiling much if at all in a HF spread. And it depends on the photographer direction. I think that accusation is sexist and so beyond OLD. Her W cover was phenomenal, and her sexiest shoot to date. Glamour is more sexy girl-next-door and the most natural. But I immediately loved this shoot out of everything she’s done because it’s what a high fashion Vogue spread should look like.  I think her posing is improved and she does the job asked of her here. She’s wearing the clothes, not vice versa in her own quiet fierceness. It’s sophisticated and of the moment. The McQueen gown is stunning, and she sells it.

  • Julie Woodson

    Her facial expression never. changes.

  • Anonymous

I really love that third photo, from the attic window to the killa sequined top + studded skirt.  Even that hairstyle should be ridiculous but somehow it works.

  • Jillian Liszewski

Those clothes are wearing the hell out of her.  That is all I have.

  • Anonymous

She’s a lovely girl, but in every picture her expression says “I remember one time when I wondered if I left the iron on…”

  • Anonymous

Some of these look good, but after the 4-5th shot of her with exactly the same face, you realize it’s all about the background and the lighting and the photographer, not the subject.

  • Anonymous

Zero presence. She always looks uncomfortable in whatever she’s doing – interviewing, acting, modeling.

  • Anonymous

She bores the shit out of me.

  • Sara Munoz

I love the quiet but fierce rock n roll vibe. That’s why she was so good as Joan Jett.

  • Anonymous

Except for the close-up in the white blouse, she disappears, the clothes stand out more than she does.

  • Nancer

The styling (which, by the way, is fierce) is doing all the work. She brings nothing to it. Unfortunately. She needs some modeling lessons, stat!

  • Anonymous

She has negative charisma. Always looks like there’s a big neon VACANCY sign flashing in her eyes. Not much to work with.

  • Becky Bartley

Normally when people style her she looks like my bulldog when I dress it up for Halloween: uncomfortable and cranky. Here she looks edgy and elegant. First shot is my fav

  • Anonymous

    Hate her.  Can’t help it.

  • Terence Ng

    Sweeny Todd Redux?

  • Anonymous

She looks good with her mouth closed.

  • Anonymous

  • Anonymous

Fierce clothes and styling – could live without Ms. Stewart.

  • Rebecca Johnson

    Charisma void.

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Good god does the girl EVER close her mouth??  I can’t stand her.  I’m sick to death of her.  She can’t act and she sure as heck can’t model!

Whew, I feel better now!  :)

  • natalia h

She can’t model and she can’t act. I hate the hair. The clothes is fantastic, though.

  • Anonymous

Why is turning a beautiful girl into something cray-cray good styling?

  • Aisa Ginger Jake Psenicnik

i pretty much dismiss kstew on principle but damnnn, she is HOT in these pics i would totaly  eff you see kay her 😛

  • Anplica Fiore

A bit Helena Bonham Carter… especially with the dark styling.

  • April

Robert Smith called, he wants his hair back.

  • Anonymous

I think she’s just awful.  So boring.
