Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon for GQ Magazine

Posted on November 16, 2011

Normally, we’d probably run screaming from the idea of these two paired in one editorial. We suppose they each have their charms, but we’ve never really been the audience for either of them and, at the risk of sounding cranky (HAHA! I KNOW, RIGHT?), we tend to find them both a little irritating.

Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon for GQ, photographed by Peggy Sirota. Left: Suit, shirt, and tie by Dolce & Gabbana. Pocket square by Tom Ford. Right: Suit, shirt, and tie by Calvin Klein Collection. Tie bars by The Tie Bar.

But we should just shut our whore mouths every once in a while because our initial impression about the idea was clearly wrong. This spread is HILARIOUS. Kudos to them both for having so much fun with it.

And the clothes aren’t bad either.

      Duplicate post.

Love the sailor pic; it’s pitch perfect! This editorial went a long way in helping me discern Jimmy Fallon from Jimmy Kimmel. I get confused in my old age.

      • scottyf

Jimmy Kimmel is fucking Ben Affleck.

        • http://twitter.com/starrika Ali

That will never get old. So funny.

This will never not be funny to me. Never.

          That was hysterical!

I remmeber that Timberlake’s earlier shoot for Esquire UK (http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/2011/11/justin-timberlake-for-esquire-uk.html) also involved a lot of crotch-grabbing/hands-approaching-my-crotch poses. Is that a thing now? I’m concerned if it’s a thing.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HREPOWNBVUBRIVPQCF3ST2IKDM Euphory

        It’s Justin Timberlake’s “I’m a hot guy who’s also goof and a goofy guy who’s also hot therefore I’m not a teen idol anymore w00t!” thing/effort.

      • Sobaika Mirza

It’s a Justin Timberlake thing, always has been.

      • Anonymous

Let it be a thing. I think this happens to be a case of “too much is never enough.”

    • Anonymous

I love Jimmy Fallon in everything except his late night show.  Cute pics, and the sailor one made me laugh.

      • Anonymous

I think Jimmy outshines Justin in this, bigtime

        • Anonymous

Totally!  In every picture my attention went to him immediately.

          • Anonymous

He’s being the funnyman and JT’s being the straightman. Nothing wrong with that; a good straightman is as important to a comedy routine as the whackadoodle guy.

(Yes yes I know there are about a million puns waiting to be made.)

Jimmy Fallon in “Almost Famous”– TO DIE. Inspired casting. I love that movie.

      • Anonymous

Can’t abide Justin’s crotch on the suit pants by Burberry London in that ukulele photo.  Something seems amiss.

    • Anonymous

I think Jimmy Fallon is hilarious and his musician impersonations are astonishing (Whip my Hair – Neil Young? Genius!). This is a fun photo shoot despite the douche canoe he’s posing with.

      • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

A few months ago I would’ve agreed with you.  However, he did remain true to his word and went to the Marine Corp Ball this past weekend and wrote a very nice recap of the evening on his website.  As the daughter of a Marine and a staunch supporter of all of our soldiers, I couldn’t help but appreciate that effort.  He went up a couple of notches in my book.

        • Anonymous

Yep. Agreed, that was pretty classy of him. I’m looking forward to hearing what Mila’s experience will be this Friday.

      • Anonymous

Getting Bruce to participate in Whip Your Hair was hilarious.  So funny.

    • Lori

Hahahahaha!   These two have incredible chemistry.  I love their musical collabs on SNL and Fallon’s show, especially the Bee Gees skits and the History of Rap series.

      • Anonymous

The Bee Gees stuff is amazing. Laugh til I cry.

        • http://twitter.com/NC_Meg Megan

Now I’ll be talkin’ it up on the Barry Gibb talk show, talkin’ ’bout chest hair, talkin’ ’bout crazy cool medallions all night. Thanks.

The sailor picture is pretty priceless, if only because I got a Gene Kelly/Frank Sinatra ‘On the Town’ flashback.

      • Anonymous

Oh yes. I got that exact same flashback. I’ve been meaning to watch that movie again at some point. Maybe when I go home for Thanksgiving I can dig it out.

    • Anonymous

What I find particularly appealing are the occasional homages to old hollywood duos. The sailor suit shot evokes Gene Kelly/Frank Sinatra. A couple of the shots (ie the mannequin) remind me of Martin & Lewis. The 2nd shots makes me think of Abbot of Costello

      • Anonymous

Martin & Lewis came to my mind, as well.

      • Anne Lucchesi

I immediately thought Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra too! And the white suit coats are totally Martin and Lewis! I like the idea for this shoot way more than I like Timberlake, but Fallon is winning me over.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Loves.  Seriously, they must have been laughing through the entirety of this shoot.

    • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

I LOVE these two. They should be hosting the Oscars.

      • Anonymous

        Now that’s a brilliant idea!

That IS brilliant. I’d watch that.

      • http://twitter.com/bettyrust Mikie

You should be casting the awards shows!  That’s a great idea!

      • BerlinerNYC

That idea is breathtakingly good. Seriously. Now I’m going to be mad because 1) it’s not happening (at least not this time around) and 2) I didn’t think of it first.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kimberly-Burke/100002384493067 Kimberly Burke

Fantastic idea!  I would watch the Oscars for the first time in about 15 years if they did so.

      • Anonymous

Now, THAT would make me watch the Oscars!!! Let’s start a FB write-in campaign.

I love the sailor picture lol.

    • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

That video is kinda cute, except for the music…

      • Anonymous

Right! Definitely NSFW, if any of you are reading the comments before clicking Play.

        • Anonymous

I’ll admit it—that shocked this old broad.

      • Anonymous

You’re aware that’s one of JT’s SNL collaborations with Andy Samberg? Just explaining why they used it, if you didn’t know.

        • Lori

Yes, “Motherlover” was a music video on SNL.  Hilarious.  Susan Sarandon and Patricia Clarkson play their mothers.

    • Anonymous

Timberlake is not normally my type, but his sense of humor and ability to laugh at himself is incredibly appealing.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I wanted to hate, but they won me over with the sailor suit.  (That said, would have KILLED for NPH to be involved)

      • Anonymous

Oh, great, now I have images of NPH in a sailor suit in my head. How am I supposed to get any work done now? ~grins~

    • Rand Ortega

I think they should host the Oscars now that Eddie Murphy bailed. Billy Crystal? Great idea– when they 1st thought of it 25 years ago.Timberlake & Fallon’s SNL skit as the Gibb Brothers is the funniest thing on SNL (besides Bill Hader’s “Stefan” who deserves his own movie IMHO) in years.

      • Anonymous

Rand!  I love you!  I have watched the “Barry Gibb Talk Show” skits over and over, and I still laugh hard enough to produce actual tears, especially at the first one.  And Bill Hader’s Stefan?  I could watch one of those skits every day of the year!

        • Anonymous

Agreed! Anytime I want a laugh I just watch one of those, or ‘Celebrity Jeopardy’ with Darrel Hammond as Sean Connery and I’m right back in a good mood again.

      • Anonymous

        OMG, my husband LOVES Stefan!
I love your idea of the two of them hosting the Oscars.  They have such a great comedic chemistry!

      • Anonymous

I think I’d rather have Samberg than Fallon, but really either (or both! BOTH!) would be an upgrade from whatever we’ll actually get.

        • Rand Ortega

That would be the best 3 way on TV!

          • Anonymous

            But, you know, it’s not gay if it’s in a 3 way…

      • http://twitter.com/enuma enuma

Oddly enough, Bill Hader turns into Jimmy Fallon during his Stefan skits.

And by that, I mean that he can’t get through the scene without breaking character and laughing.

I have lot of respect for JT after he kept his word and went to the Marine Ball.  From all the pictures I have seen, he looked like he was having a blast.

    • Anonymous

Come on!  Look at those adorable kids–how could anyone not love them?  This editorial is cheeky and fun.  I adore a man who doesn’t take himself too seriously.  I mean, compare and contrast:  Jimmy/JT versus Donald Trump.  Jimmy/JT, Donald Trump.

      No contest!

Just a technical note:  I find the halos that surround them in all the photos to be a little disorienting.

      • Anonymous

Halos, that’s the word I wanted.
        Disorienting, that’s the other word.

        Fun and old Hollywood appeal.

    • http://twitter.com/lightningvsbug Kallie Markle

Timberlake is such a weenis, but Jimmy Fallon is the (older) little brother I wish I had. I was never a fan when he was on SNL but started watching Late Night when I had my baby and he grew on me immediately. He’s always himself, always humble, and always a total dork- and I have excellent radar for ‘fake dork for endearing’s sake’, *cough AnneHathaway*. (Kind of a hottie too, now that I’m looking at these pics….) This is a fun spread. Would’ve loved it w/someone besides Captain Ego.

      • Anonymous

I always thought Fallon was kind of dorkishly (I made it up, I don’t care) cute on SNL, but these pictures reminded me that he turned into kind of a handsome dude.  And I actually think he’s pretty dang talented–musical and funny.  And Timberlake wins me over reguarly.  So this is kind of fantastic all the way around.

    • http://twitter.com/nicolahearts nicole seligman

holy crap this is beautiful. i want to spend a day with them. i love goofy guys in gorgeous clothing.

      • Pam Winters

I’m cool with gorgeous guys in goofy clothing as well.

    • MilaXX

Adorkable! I hated Jimmy Fallon when he was on SNL, but I really like his talk show. oh yeah, the clothes look nice too.

    • Julie Woodson

Hee! I love both of them. I love this editorial.

    • Anonymous

Makes sense to me. JT’s finest moments have always been through/with SNL.

    • Stefanos Mantyla

This is really good! Even though Jimmy (whom I do not know) outshines Justin, they both look actually likeable!

    • Anonymous

The most likable I’ve ever seen Timberlake is as a guest on Fallon’s show. And while it’s kind of like watching your brother & his friends (that is, they’re funny but not as funny to you as they are to each other,) it casts a mild benign glow over both of them in my mind.

More to the point, isn’t AMAZING how a nice suit can improve the most average of men?

Hope the narrow tie & tie bar are back. I like that look & it’s hard to mess up.

      • Anonymous

Love the narrow tie and tie bar too.  Compare that look on these two to the Army of Douchebags at the Twilight premiere!

    • Anonymous

I love these two together! I think that their “History of Rap” performances on Jimmy’s show are totally amazing, they’re both super talented.

    • Anonymous

And see?  This is just how I like JT.  (And Fallon, for that matter.)  Hard to believe I can enjoy him in this context and yet find him so otherwise irrelevant, but I’ll take funny where I can get it.

JT’s eyes always give his narcissism away – always straight into the camera, always searching for your reaction to his adorableness, always so self-conscious and a little desperate. Do not get me started on his “acting” skills. He is not a pro at all, but an attention-seeking minor entity. Jimmy Fallon, however, is the real article. He’s witty, honest-to-GOD good-looking and genuine.
And he looks killer in great clothes.

    • Anonymous

I burst into laughter when I saw the sailors shot. Yeah, JT may irritate some folks, but to participate in a shoot like this requires not taking oneself too seriously in the best possible way. Good for him and Fallon.

Is Timberlake considered good looking?  I mean, I wanna jump Fallon’s bones, but Timberlake is so very blah to me!

Btw, does anyone remember when Hugh Jackman was on the SNL Jarret’s Room skit with Fallon?  Seriously, it was the funniest thing I ever saw on SNL.  I can’t find the video, but here is a photo I found online: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v433/diannaruggles/jarretsroomjackman.jpg
