In or Out: Gwyneth Paltrow in Stella McCartney

Posted on November 21, 2011

This is so goofy looking that we couldn’t deny our precious unborn fawns the opportunity to vote on it.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Stella McCartneyGwyneth Paltrow attends the Coach 70th Anniversary Celebration in a Stella McCartney dress paired with a Coach clutch, bien sûr.

We’re all for a busy print on the red carpet but we don’t much like this print; at least not in pictures. It looks like the lining to an old suitcase. Then there’s the completely wackadoo neckline and hem, both of which are leaving us fairly speechless. We don’t actually mind the neckline. We don’t love it, but with a more conventional hem, it might have worked. But that hem is just too much and the black trim just looks like some sort of sewing mistake. We tip our hats to Gwynnie for trying to wear interesting things now and then, but this dress might just be too interesting for its own good.

Also, we don’t like the clutch. Or the shoes.

Vote Now!
IN! It’s unique, unusual, and unexpected, you bitter, bratty bitches!

OUT! This dress is making me seasick!

Voting on Blake Lively’s startling turn toward batshit insanity is still quite open, dolls.

OUT–what an ugly dress!  And she looks like she has to pee in that first photo.

  • Ebony Dawkins

Out.  Those heavy black shoes didn’t help the matter much at all.  I have to say, this was a serious case of scroll down fug.

    • Anonymous

So true – I saw the thumbnail and thought, “You know, I could see this being IN.”  Then I saw the full-length pic. Yikes.

  • Liana Brooks

OUT – I’d be covering that hem up too! Poor girl, just because someone asks you to wear the dress doesn’t mean you need to say yes.

  • Anonymous

I feel like just seeing the thumbnail of a Gwyneth Paltrow post is an invitation for us kittens to sharpen our claws. This outfit looks like a Project Runway creation and it’s wrong for her coloring. OUT.

  • Anonymous

Oh My Gwynnie, were you attacked on the red carpet? Did someone rip off part of your hem and one of your sleeves?

  • Anonymous

The neckline and hem together–and the shoes–are all competing for attention. And it kind of looks like she accidentally tucked her dress into her nylons coming out of the bathroom… sorry, Gwynnie, it’s an OUT for me.

  • nicole seligman

i love the print, hemline, and clutch. i hate the neckline, shoes, and sleeve. her hair needs to be in a ponytail. i still give her an IN for not bringing the boring.

    • Barbara Guttman

I’m with you.  In fact, I would give the neckline more of a pass if the embroidery matched the hem and there wan’t that big ol’ sleeve.

      Nothing could save those shoes.

      • nicole seligman

i couldn’t agree more about the embroidery color! it’s TOO much contrast with that craycray print in between.

        and yeah. shoe fail.

  • Kelsey Albrecht

    out out out

  • Adrian

The biggest problem I have with this is that she doesn’t look comfortable in it. Her body language is all “Oh, you guys, I totally KNOW! I’m SORRY.” I kind of like the print, but maybe as endpapers in a book or some kind of retro-funky lampshade. Not on a lady’s body. OUT!

    • Anonymous

Agreed, the print would make the sweetest book endpapers!

      A dress… no.

  • Addicted2Glamour

And Stella continues to coast on her last name…I mean they might as well let Sir Paul have a go at running up these dresses. They couldn’t look any worse.  OUT.

    • Lori

I almost never like Stella McCartney’s clothes. Most of them are either just weird in a not good way, like this one, or they’re almost good, but fight the body they’re on in ways that make them fail. I feel a little bitchy saying it (which I guess means I’m in the right place), but ITA that she would never have gotten where she is today if she weren’t the offspring of Sir Paul and Linda.

      • accidental housewife

Indeed. It’s even more inexplicable because, unlike the deal with Georgina Chapman,  Stella McCartney isn’t married to a Hollywood powerhouse who requires continuous ass-kissing. Hell, I love the Beatles too, but I wouldn’t be caught dead in a Stella McCartney dress just because her father’s a former Beatle. I wouldn’t be caught dead in one of her dresses anyway.

  • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

oh honey, that is so not your dress. OUT

    • Sobaika Mirza

That dress belongs to someone over a decade younger and with better taste in accessories.

    • Anonymous

I have to say, I’m not sure whose dress this is. It’s definitely not Gwennie’s. But I can’t think of anyone right off who would look great in this. There’s just too much going on, and none of it good.

  • Nora Halcyonov Lynnenko Naught

i actually really love this!  yeah, it’s a bit strange, but it’s edgy and that’s kind of hard to come by these days.  the bag slightly echoes the hemline.  it all makes me think of 18th Century French fashion collided with hints of the ’60s and then exploded into the 21st Century.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, OUT. The dress just looks silly.

  • Christopher

out,  the hem doesn’t even look good on the model.

  • Anonymous

OUT – It’s just not her dress.  Nicole Kidman wore a longer, red version of this dress and looked stunning.

    • Catherine L Kronenwetter

The longer red version makes me rethink my opinion of the pattern, I guess it can work!

  • Catherine L Kronenwetter

The pattern makes it look like a nightgown to me, maybe that’s why this is giving me a teenybopper vibe.  The black accent makes no sense to me, especially with the white on the neckline.  The hem by itself fine, the neck by itself fine, pattern uck, black bag and shoes uck.  …eh out

  • Anonymous

IN!  It’s refreshing to see something different!

  • Sara__B

First Blake and now Gwyneth in jaw-droppingly ugly dresses. OUT.

  • Ebba Svantesson

  • Anonymous

OUT. Gwynnie sometimes dresses like she can wear anything and have it look great. As evidenced here, simply not the case. The shoes seem like they belong to an entirely different outfit.

  • MilaXX

OUT. The dress is too young for her and it’s not that great of a dress to begin with. Someone needs to tell Stella either the hem is wacky or the neckline, but not both. Gwynnie also failed with the clutch, which I supposed couldn’t be helped, but the shoes are equally bad.

  • Sylvia

    I…I kind of like it.

    • Anonymous

Well bless your heart, that could not have been easy to admit

  • Shannon Stewart

Mostly because she’s uncomfortable enough in it that she needs her clutch to hide her crotch…

    • Anonymous

drawing attention to her “man hands” – LOL, don’t ever remember thinking she had man hands but that photo sure makes them look that way.

i’m tired of her, the kardashian’s and olivia wilde…….OUT for me as well – she does look uncomfortable and as someone pointed out above, looks like she’s gotta pee.

  • Anonymous

I’ve never liked Stella McCartney’s clothing, it’s either ugly or weird or both.  This one is both.  That fabric looks cheap and the edging reminds me of an old couch my grandmother had that was trimmed like that.  I didn’t like that couch, either.

I’d almost feel sorry for Gwennie because everyone despises her so, but she’s too self absorbed to care so I’ll save it for some other, more sensitive human.

    • Anonymous

there’s a reason everyone despises her.

  • Anonymous

Both the pattern and the hem are making me seasick.  Today was much too long of a Monday to spend more than 3 seconds looking at this dress.

  • Jasmine Moten

I am so tired of her bone straight hair! Liven it up a bit!

    • BuffaloBarbara

Amen!  Red carpets look like NAMI depression conventions.

  • Anonymous

  • Cele Deemer

    Definitely OUT!

  • Eclectic Mayhem

    Gah!  Out!

  • Anonymous

Out.  The weird hemline, the black trim vs. the white trim, it’s all out.

The long red version on Nicole Kidman was better.

  • Pinup Ghoul

    Whaty what huh-huh?
I am so confused by this ensemble.

  • Sara Leigh Merrey

The dress is ugly, and as somone else noted, it’s too young for Gwynneth. I’m not a Gwynneth fan, and this is just more evidence for me that her style icon status is exaggerated.

  • MadameHardy

Even she knows this is wrong — she’s trying to hide the wackadoo hemline with her clutch.  Get a bigger bag, honey — probably a garment carrier. OUT.

  • Anonymous

    Whoa – out.

  • Haley Buchanan

OUT.  I dislike everything about this dress – on Gwynnie and on the model as well.

  • Lauren Maier

Sorry, that just kind of flopped out of my mouth and ran from the dress…

  • Anonymous

    IN!!  Unique and fun.

  • WordyDoodles

The swirly neckline looks like the dress is trying to dodge a fast ball heading to her shoulder.
The clutch is too casual for the red carpet and/or the dress.
The length is awesome for her mile long legs and I’ve got nothing against the print. But altogether, OUT.

  • Anonymous

This…thing is making Gwyneth Paltrow’s legs look fucked up. Say what you will about the GOOPess, but she has excellent gams.

    • Anonymous

      Good point. OUT.

  • Anonymous

B for effort C- for the end result.

  • Anonymous

  • Lisa

I actually do like the shape of the dress, wacky neckline, single sleeve and all.  I just hate the print – it looks like a hospital gown.

  • Grace Ritt

OUT. Just bad. Kind of interesting but no redeeming factor.

  • Anonymous

seriously, what is the  point of this dress? Sometimes Stella McCartney does some great stuff but there is a also a lot of rampant fugly in every collection

  • Kate Pearce

I like the print, I like the clutch but I’m not keen on the neckline or the hem.

  • Anonymous

I’m gonna say IN.  I love this dress.  I think it’s head-turning and looks great on her, but most of all it’s just so FUN!  Hate the shoes, don’t mind the clutch, love that dress for being so remarkable and unique.

  • Anonymous

    Oy!  Out!

  • Anonymous

Out. The print looks terrible and is not flattering at all. the neck is distracting and I’m not sure what it’s trying to do. The overall cut does not flatter her. Just terrible.

  • Democracy Diva

Out. It’s ugly. simply as that.

  • Vickie Lord

EITHER the neckline or the hem, but both is tooooo weird and unflattering.  Sorry Gwennie, OUT

  • Anonymous

That would work, maybe, for Hailee Steinfeld. Maybe.

  • Anonymous

OUT. Because it’s her and because it’s kinda ugly, in that order.

  • Alexandria N

OUT! Lovely shoes, but the rest is nutty/ugly. Thanks for playing, Gwen darling, please try again!

  • Scott Finley

Stella McCartney? OMG. It looks like something from the Paisley Park archives.

  • Anonymous

That entire Stella McCartney collection is fug and anyone who wears something from it is an OUT by association.

My dad had boxer shorts in that pattern.  And he was a rotund man.  And this was about 40 years ago.

    • Anonymous

my father too!  lol.  That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this.

obviously Gynnie is OUT…so was dad, walking around in his boxers..ugh…not good memories. 😉

Out. I could get behind the fabric and the one arm business, but all that combined with the neckline and flounced, black-trim hem just send this over the edge into “too complicated for its own good.”

Didn’t Nicole Kidman just wear a long, red version of this?

    Out. Old suitcase lining indeed

  • Anonymous

“It looks like the lining to an old suitcase.” Exactly. It’s got a vintage vibe that I love and it’s really different from everything else out there. Bold, intriguing and IN.

  • Anonymous

Good lord, won’t somebody please talk to her about her hair?  It resembles french fries in both color and texture at this point.  Also, try a new hairstyle.  And I say this as someone who doesn’t hate her.

  • Anonymous

  • Anonymous

Gwynnie herself is not nearly interesting enough to carry off an a-bit-too-interesting dress.  OUT.

But I would cut several bitches for that clutch.

  • Anonymous

She looks really uncomfortable here. And is she shilling Coach bags or just afraid that the dress is going to ride up and show off the good china?

Out, and I think she knew it already.

  • Anonymous

I like the clutch, but not with that dress. That clutch belongs to Helena Bonham Carter in one of her less eccentric outfits.

I think the hem looks better on Gwyneth than the model, but the neckline looks better on the model than on Gwyneth. It creates a titscrepancy, which is amplified according to the actual breast dimensions of the wearer.

I like the creativity of translating a Nouveau picture frame as elements of a dress.

I’m neutral on the print. I see your point about the luggage lining, but judging from the close-up and the model photo, it looks as if it might have more verve in person. All the same, the dress would have been more effective in a solid color, making the framing detail the focus.

OUT. Points for trying something different, but when you have Gwyneth Paltrow’s money, influence, and looks, there’s no excuse for not looking awesome on the red carpet.

  • Anonymous

You don’t even need to hate Goop to hate this dress. That is serious fug.

  • Shannon Tierney

Out. Though I reverse your comments and find the hem acceptable if not for the fugly neckline, which looks incredibly uncomfortable. I’d be trying to straighten that thing out all night.

  • Sorana Tarmu

Oh Lord… I wanted to say why on Earth is she wearing an ironing table cover, but then I noticed the black trim and all I can say now is what the f**** was in her head to choose this rag doll dress made by a ten year old from her mommy’s old ironing table cover and her first crochet lesson? Of course it’s an OUT.

  • Anonymous

100% true: this is the ugliest dress I have ever seen. Everything about it is, at best, regrettable.

  • Jessica Ballinger

Oh my, that was fun.  Out.

  • Anonymous

It seems too young for her.  But even on a younger person I would probably say out.  Too much shit going on and not in a good way.

  • Susan Collier

Out. I don’t dig most Stella McCartney clothes, I’ve found.

  • Anonymous

OUT. Scrolldown fug. I saw her from the waist up and thought “I don’t hate it”, then the scroll down.  I too thought the hem would be more traditional. That scripty black thing is whackadoo.

  • Cheri Lee

I thought Stella was suppose to be a good designer…OUT!

  • Sara Jenkins

I actually don’t mind the bag, but I hate the shoes, which tips it toward an out.

  • Anonymous

IN. I think she looks fresh and unique. Not everyone could pull this off, but Goop can.

  • Rachel Council

OUT. I know Stella’s your friend, Gwen, but sometimes you just have to say no.

I love it. In.  I also love the clutch and shoe choice, would not have been my first choice, but really works for me.

Would’ve liked it more if the hem matched the neckline, but she’s still IN.

  • Mari Rose

OUT. Stop trying to make Stella McCartney happen, Gwynnie.

I love Gwyneth, but this is completely OUT.

  • Julia

Man, I could’ve gotten behind the dress of the shoes weren’t so incongruous. And the hem weren’t so fucked. And why didn’t she do something more fun with her hair? Her overwhelming limpness is boring. I mean, points for trying, but it’s also very easy to criticize the hell out of her. OUT.

  • Anonymous

i really like the collar. i really hate the sleeve.
i tend to like stella mccartney a lot as a person. cos of that i tend to want to like her as a designer.
i cannot imagine liking anything by coach. anything, anything at all.
i cannot remember what the shoes look like.

i think this adds up somewhere in the negative column but not by much.

  • Anonymous

EITHER the wacky neckline OR the wacky hemline OR the wacky print.
    The clutch, I like.

  • Joyce VG

what a peculiar pose…whatever is she protecting?  Ugly dress. OUT.

  • Anonymous

I know it’s unpopular, but I say in. I actually like the print and I like that she took a chance. And regardless of the style of the dress, it’s flattering as hell.

  • Elana Friedman

she’s out, but contrary to you two I like the clutch.

  • Dominique C

  • Megan Moore

    sooooo OUT

  • AWStevens

Wow, so that’s what happened to Isadora Duncan’s scarf…

    Out out OUT!!!!!!

A train wreck of a dress.  And even the wrong colors for her.

  • Merneith

Out. The hem is a visual assault.

  • Anonymous

Hate it, although the print doesn’t bother me. Also, why are the stars all holding their clutches in front of their crotches nowadays? What’s going on with the fig leaf pose?

  • Laura F.

I can’t stand this bitch, but points to her for wearing something other than a safe cocktail dress with nude pumps or black peeptoes.  And I appreciate the effort in having the clutch echo the piping on the hem.  Having said that, I can’t get behind this.  The print isn’t as arresting as it needs to be to work with the hem and the neckline.  OUT, but an A for effort, darling!

  • Joy

From midthigh down, everything’s a mess: hemline, shoes, nail polish.  Even though the print looks like contact paper shelf liner, it would pass, if not for the hemline with that icky black stuff.  As it is, OUT.

  • Anonymous

I actually kind of like the print, but her again with the hair. I can’t get past it.

    • Anonymous

That’s an OUT, by the way.

  • Anonymous

No. And I don’t think Gwynnie’s the problem here, she’s doing about as well as anybody could in that dress. Stella McCartney’s rank as a high end designer continues to mystify me. I suspect that, like Georgina Chapman, connections have been REALLY helpful in building a fashion career here.

  • thatgirl

I like a lot of what Stella McCartney does, but this is a firm OUT. What’s with the easy pitches today, TLo? 😉

  • Anonymous

Out, the fabric looks to me like the print on some of my dad’s boxers from the way-back machine.

  • marlie

HATE the dress. The clutch and shoes are ok, but the dress just ruins everything.

  • Anonymous

  • Susan Bullard Mayer

I like the top, but she has a bad case of scrolldown fug.

IN above the waist. OUT below the waist. close-ups the bottom looks a lot better. From a distance, it looks like the bottom half is the result of some tragic manufacturing accident.

  • Alexander Peterhans

  • Kary McGonigal Barrie

The dress might have worked if it had either the wackadoo hem OR wackadoo neck. I vote to keep the hem. That neck just looks really uncomfortable.

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Wackadoo.  God I love you two.  Yeah, so she’s out.

  • Anonymous

I’ll say IN because she has the sense to cover up that ugly-ass hem with what I think it a pretty fabulous clutch.

I actually like the print, but hate everything else. That swoop up on her thigh is just weird and makes me realize how uber-thin Gweny’s limbs are. BTW—OUT.

  • Karenlibrarian

Oh, girl.  There is TOO MUCH GOING ON HERE.  And I HATE the shoes.  Not only ankle straps, but peep toes AND fluffy bows or whatever on the toes.  Too heavy looking, they cut her off at the ankle.  The models delicate strappy sandals were perfect.  OUT, OUT OUT!!

  • Katherine Pisarro-Grant

    Appallingly bad dress. So OUT.

  • Catherine Rhodes

OUT. Stella McCartney is completely overrated. I can’t remember anything, ever, that I’ve liked of hers.

  • Anonymous

Wow, that is the ugliest frock I’ve seen in a very long time……she and this dress make Blake Lively’s salute to Annie Oakley from yesterday look positively chic.  One arm with a long sleeve, one arm with no sleeve.  Neckline piping white, hemline piping black.  One clavicle exposed, one clavicle covered.  Indecisive hemline.  Wait a minute–this is a bipolar dress!  Somebody throw some lithium at it!

But I do like the clutch.  Sorry, TLo.

  • Susan Crawford

You have a strange, contorted neckline trimmed with white lampshade trim. You have a bizarre, shoulder-exposing cutout. You have a long, tubular sleeve. You have a strange, contorted hemline trimmed with black lampshade trim. And . . . my dad had a pair of pajamas in that exact same print. Put it all together and it spells O-U-T.

I like the bag – but not with the busydress of doom. Shoes? No. Just no. And please, please, please would someone lead Ms. Paltrow to the volumizing shampoo aisle at Duane Reade?

  • Anonymous

Egads, she looks as fresh as latterday Lindsay Lohan here.

  • Anonymous

Out.  It’s so depressing to see such a good looking woman do this to herself.

  • Rain Jezek

OUT. Both hems may have worked separately, but not together. Also, by worked, I mean “at least not have looked completely tragic”. I think she hates it, too. That must be why she’s posing with the clutch in front of her like that.

  • Brian Jardine

    OUT.  I doubt it’s actually anybody’s dress.

  • Anonymous

I’m no friend of Gwyneth, but I think she looks good here. I like the swoopy shapes, and the contrast between the pale print and the black trim and accessories. IN.

  • Anonymous

I seriously can’t believe I’m going to say this, but– IN.

    Don’t judge me!

  • BuffaloBarbara

I almost like the weird neckline–it’s kind of interesting–but the print, the length, that weird, weird hem (which is not interesting, just weird)… no.  Out, honey. Out.

  • Anonymous

Love the clutch. Hate everything else. OUT!

  • Jessica Charlotte Siewierkiewi

IN, since I think it’s cute and a bit ‘whackadoo’. But I agree with you about the hem; should have been normal (or in white).

  • Claudia Gilbert

    Has to be an OUT!

  • Sabina Kallstrom

I like the dress. I don’t think it’s Gwynnie’s dress though. I could see it on Blake Lively actually. But I don’t think the look works here, but A for effort.

  • Anonymous

Out. She’s trying to hide behind her clutch ffs! The clutch is pretty!

  • RzYoung

YEUCH, gross, what is going on with Stella lately? I’ve never been her biggest fan but this is a monstrosity as is that ghastly illusion-netting-polka-dot dress that’s doing the rounds. Yuck OUT

  • Mags

That is an ugly dress and it’s not doing anything for her. OUT!

  • Aaminah Khan

I…actually kind of like it. I think she’s working it as much as anyone could possibly work that dress.

IN, because sometimes it really is just about standing up, thrusting your chin up and your boobs forward, and owning it.

  • Anonymous

    nononononononononononnonnononno! OUT
Seriously, that dress would look good on absolutely no one. It looks like a home ec project gone awry.
I think my father owned boxer shorts in that fabric when I was a kid.

  • Taija HU!

I’m saying IN just because it’s a welcome departure from the usual column of white. I have to say though, I hate the shoes with it. This is a dress that calls for something simple because there’s just so much going on. Had she worn a slightly less heavy shoe, forgot the clutch and changed the hem-line it would have been quite retro sci-fi chic.

My verdict is purely just to steer her into the right direction. Come on Goop, you can do it.

  • Anonymous

OUT!  If the hem line trim was white I would give it an IN!

    Wrong clutch for that dress.

  • Brenda

Ugh, i hate her, but she’s IN.

  • Manon Eileen

Lol, she looks like she’s trying to cover up the awfulness of the dress with the clutch. So out.

I like it. Shows off her pretty legs. Hate the blobs on her shoes, but in.

  • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Yea, defintiely and OUT.  I mean, if Stella were my BFF, i would totally take a hit on the red carpet in this for her though.

    • Anonymous

If Stella were my BFF, I would take her aside and tell her to pull this ugly, ugly dress from her line.  So that the entire world wouldn’t be rearing back in horror, saying, “THAT is a Stella McCartney?????”

Why do they all hold their clutches in such an odd way… as if trying to hide their skirt length, or some such nonsense??

  • ecallaw

I really don’t like it, but I have a hard time criticizing her when she went out of the box. Ick, no, there’s just nothing to like about this–the neck, the hemline, the pattern–it all just sucks.  OUT.

  • Pennymac

Like the print, like the neckline, detest the hem. Why, why why black and swoopy? Non-swoopy hem or swoopy and white trimmed hem, maybe. But as it is, it lookes like it was the last bit of fabric on the bolt and the black thread was part of the selvages. OUT!

    OUT. It’s just ugly.

OUT. Looks like an amateur playing dress up. Also, girlfriend is in a hair rut. Tousle that stick straight perfection every once in awhile gwynnie.

  • Jen Alien-Spouse

OUT – That hemline plus the off-kilter neckline really does make this look as though she got her dress caught in a revolving door and this was all she could salvage to cover herself up with.

Also, from the look on Gwyneth’s face, she isn’t sure she’s pulling this look off and that really is the kiss of death to any outfit, isn’t it?

  • Anonymous

Even she knows that hem is a wackadoodle mistake, see how she is attempting to hide it with a slightly less ugly clutch/  Who recently wore the gown length version of this?  I liked that.

  • Anonymous

OUT. It is a dreadful dress to begin with.

  • Judy S

I will give her a modest IN. Weird dress but I think she is wearing it well.

  • Anonymous

The shape of this neckline is actually very flattering on her, and I’d love to see another dress try this.  Otherwise, it’s a hot mess.  Gwennie looks well enough groomed, but the dress is just a collection of no.  OUT.

  • Jessica O’Connell

OUT. I could have gotten behind the weird neckline, but that hem is making me twitchy… The bag’s OK but those shoes are pretty awful.

  • Euphory

I don’t know.  After seeing that eye-searing Blake Lively yesterday, I kinda miss Gwyneth as a “fashion icon”.

  • Anonymous

Awful Spotty Dress! She looks embarrassed by it. OUT, damn spots!

  • Badriya Al-Badi’a

Out–but in a solid color, I think the overall design would work, in a retro Jetsons kind of way.

  • Anonymous

OUT – that hem is horrid and unflattering.

  • Anonymous

    no thank you — OUT!

  • Anonymous

I like the neckline, but the hem is so OUT. Look: OUT.

  • Stan

ugh.  out. She’s holding the clutch in that last photo in an attempt to hide her shame.

  • Anonymous

….wait didn’t you like it on Nicole Kidman floor length and in (ugh) red?   Not that this is good, just that both are bad……ohhh maybe it’s a Gwynnie thing…..OK, I’m on board with that.

  • Anonymous

This is beyond bad, and let’s not forget her hair. Those stringy ends need to go.

  • MinAgain

She seems uncomfortable in the dress, like she suddenly realized what a ridiculous-looking thing it is.  And her hair is still boring. Out.

  • vmcdanie

Out. After much consideration because it’s original and they improved the hemline from its runway incarnation (the odd scrap of print making an escape under the hemline=no good.)

I don’t know why you wouldn’t like the clutch? The shoes are too heavy for this look. The runway ones are a better option.

I feel a little bad for outing this honestly as I do like to applaud her for taking a risk.

  • Judy_J

No sir, I don’t like it.  Out.

  • Nancer

I’m surprising myself by actually liking this look. I don’t really know why, because I agree with the criticism of the print and the hem – yet it works for me. I think it just looks fun and clean and different. So I have to give it an “In.”

  • Anonymous

Nope.  And I hate her hair.  I’m so over her hair.

  • Anonymous

    Schizophrenic dress. Out.

  • Cathy S

The only thing I like is the clutch. Out. Stella McCartney’s been very disappointing lately.

  • Vaniljekjeks

Out!  I will never get behind the one sleeve look.  Never.  I do like the clutch though.

  • Anonymous

In – I love the whole thing.  Killer gams, jesus.

  • Anonymous

She’s doing her friend a solid by wearing that fakakta dress on the RC.  Gwynnie, you’re a good friend but that look is OUT.

  • Anplica Fiore

    Out out black spot!

  • Anonymous

It looks like someone sewed some rope on the ends of an uneven tube of fabric. OUT

It looks like someone sewed some rope on the ends of an uneven tube of fabric. OUT

Out, although part of that is because I’m just not feeling Stella’s creations. And I so wish Gwynnie would do something different with her hair.

  • aimee_parrott

Ew… OUT.  It looks like she was attacked, and then trimmed the parts of the hem that were bitten with dead caterpillars.

  • Anonymous

Out. I would have given it an “in” if it had a normal hemline. Sad.

  • CQAussie

OUT.  The only thing I like about this look from Gwynnie is the clutch.

  • accidental housewife

What a stupid-ass dress. Maybe Gwyneth lost a bet with Stella. I can’t imagine any other reason for her to wear this thing.

I don’t hate Gwyneth. I think she’s kind of a ridiculous person, but I can’t hate her. As Rory Gilmore once said “I can’t hate the pathetic.”

Anyway, I wouldn’t wish this dress on my worst enemy*. OUT

*That’s a lie. There are a few people I would happily try to talk into wearing this dress.

  • Meghan Young

    lol out

  • Aisling O’Connor

Couldn’t be more OUT. A ridiculous garment.

  • Anonymous

you have to admit her shoes are miles better than the shoes that model is wearing though, right? I think so, anyway….

  • Thom

The curved hem gives the illusion of one leg longer than the other (never mind the titscrepancy or one sleeve). And the print (and colors thereof) would be kinda hard to match to (maybe an emerald green bag and nude shoe?). The shoes at least match the whimsy of the dress, but you’re right, this dress *is* too is own good.

  • chhivt

    Cold frosty starlet is O-U-T.

  • Emily

In.  I kinda like it.  It’s fun.

  • Anonymous

This is a case of the dress wearing the girl.  It’s be difficult for anyone to wear, but I think it definitely needs someone with an edgier attitude and style to pull it off.

    Gweynth is not edgy.  Out.

  • Ass Kicking Adviser

    I don’t understand. I’m confused. That means it’s ‘OUT.’

  • Nellie Wilson

The dress does nothing to distract from the stringy hair and oily-looking face. She just looks so unkempt, which, given her wealth, is inexcusable. Ugh. Oh, did I say OUT?

  • mcglory13

The term whackadoo: in. Gwenyth’s whackadoo dress: out.

  • Anonymous

OUT. It’s so wrong in so many ways.

  • terekirkland

I was on-board until I saw the hem. Yikes. Her hair doesn’t help make this look any less like a bad trip…

  • Pamela

Always HATEHATEHATE sleeve/no sleeve looks, no matter what the garment.  Clutch isn’t bad though.  OUT

  • Anonymous

let’s face it: stella wouldn’t be a designer if her last name weren’t mccartney.  there, i said it.

  • Debby Barbero

That has to be some of the ugliest material ever used in “fashion”.  Ever.  Could someone explain the no sleeve/sleeve design element?  Those two sides do not belong together on the same outfit ever!  If I am cold, I want sleeves, if I’m warm, then maybe not.  What do you do with one sleeve and one no sleeve?  Wear a wrap and wrap one arm if chilly?

  • Anonymous

I typically like what GP does but this is a monstrosity.

Girl, do not think that Stella is one of your BFFs, she is most emphatically not your friend if she sends you out in a dress like this.

  • Ditty Nicolaides

OUT. It gives me a headache.

  • Anonymous

OUT!  The dress and shoes are hideous and the clutch looks like a cheap knockoff.  I also didn’t like Nichole Kidman in the longer version of this dress at the CMAs.  Ugh!

  • Joanne Robertson

OUT probably because it is Paltrow but I did not like it in red and floor length when Nicole Kidman wore the same thing for the BMI awards…in fact I think the blue is nicer than the red but everything else is so wrong…and it is Paltrow…

  • Anonymous

You liked the long red gown version of this dress on Nicole Kidman. It didn’t have that funky hem either.

  • Samantha Irene

    Hate it! Out

  • Samantha Irene

    Hate it! Out

  • MandyM

Didn’t Nicole Kidman just wear a similar dress on the red carpet? Her’s was long and red but it had the same ugly neckline. How could anyone think that neckline is attractive or flattering? It’s JUST PLAIN UGLY. The hem is horrible and the print is even uglier close up. OUT darn spots!

  • Marissa

    She’s killing it. IN!

  • Anonymous

    The clutch is cute.

  • Shawn Hill

    Hate her. In!

  • Mary Gallagher

  • Kelley Comfort

….I know she’s besties with Stella, but does that mean she’s obligated to wear every crazy thing her friend sends down the runway? It’s a horrible dress. I think Gwyneth should grow a pair and tell Stella, “I love you, but you have poor taste somtimes!” OUT!

  • Andrea

OMG how lopsided would you feel wearing that dress, sorry too OCD to even look at that dress for very long!

  • Anonymous

  • kvlm

    oh, honey, put it away.
