In or Out: Gwyneth Paltrow in Elie Saab

Posted on November 11, 2011

We had every intention of shouting out “WERQ it, girl!” at this look:

Gwyneth Paltrow in Elie SaabGwyneth Paltrow attends the Red Carpet for the Bambi Award 2011 ceremony in Wiesbaden, Germany in Elie Saab.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Elie Saab

Because it’s a gorgeous color, beautiful shape, and it looks spectacular on her. Also because the necklace is perfect.

But then we remembered that this is Gwyneth Paltrow and God invented the internet so that people could share cat videos and so that they could come together, without borders or boundaries, and go on and on about how they can’t stand Gwyneth Paltrow. Who are we to deny people another opportunity to do so?

Besides, we’re sick of her flat hair, so a WERQ post would not have been appropriate.

Vote Now!
IN! Fuck the haters!

OUT! Hate the fucker!

Voting is still open on Jessica Alba’s dress, which is possibly chic, or possibly old lady. Opinionize, darlings.

Oh darlings, thanks for letting your kittens have a chance to scratch at Gwennie.  But I think she looks great and that color is simply gorgeous. No swipes at her here. Happy weekend!

      • Anonymous

Aw to hell with it. My kitten claws must stay sheathed as well. IN from this particularly bitter little cat.

      • Anonymous

agree.  i must have been declawed.

    • Kelsey Albrecht

IN because I’m just glad she’s not wearing something pastel or neutral.

    • Darien Nevulti LeDisko

      Definite in!

I think the hair is minor. :)

      • Anonymous

The hair is minor? She looks like an ear of corn with silk popping out of the top.

        • Anonymous

I so agree, when I first saw the photo I yelled but the hair, the hair ……. straight, tired, drab cut a few inches of split ends and lose the necklace

          • Anonymous

The hair this severe better be razor sharp. It just looks a bit scraggly. A simple bump w the clay iron would have helped. The dress is lovely, and green looks good on her. Would have preferred a bare neck w a bracelet. But still it’s an IN.

        • Kate Trautschold

HAHAHAHAHA!  that made me spit out my coffee!

    • Sobaika Mirza

I can’t stand her OR that necklace. But she’s IN, no denying it.

      • Sara L.

I have no opinion about her, really, but I am with you on that necklace. A high, choker-style necklace just looks dumb with a plunging neckline. Dress is a stunner, though. So a tentative IN.

    • Gustavo Casals

Looking great, and we know her track record is not the best. Bonus: it’s not the same tired Calvin Klein colorless shit. I say she’s in, even with the tired hair.

    • Praggya R. Barretto

In! Love that Gwynnie’s wearing some vibrant colors. The necklace is a little meh for me. I would have styled with long earrings, but overall a very strong look.

    • Erin

She is the poster child for unexamined privilege, and I can no longer watch *Shakespeare in Love* because, for me, Gwyneth now wears a neon sign that reads “shallow twat.”  Nevertheless, she looks lovely here.  IN.

      • Anonymous

I love this. I could hit Like all day long.

      • Anonymous

see, I can’t watch Shakespeare in Love because they treated that sarcastic Sonnet 18 seriously.

oh.  the dress.  Sorta in, but her boobs look rather sad and her skin needs work in the decolletage area.

        • Anonymous

Sarcastic?  I’ve never heard anyone refer to that sonnet as that.

        • Anonymous

How exactly do her boobs look sad? They look like…boobs.  The natural, non-enhanced boobs of a 39 year old woman. Have we been looking at silicone breasts for so long that we forgot what the real things look like?

      • Joanne Robertson

        OMG THIS!!!!  Best.description.ever.

    • Micaela Cannon

Actually hate the necklace with the dress although love both on their own. Her hair looks pretty terrible (the dye job and the ironing) but I’m going to be generous and give her an IN anyway because I think that dress is pretty fabulous and suits her much better than the Calvin Klein minimalism sheath stuff she usually pulls. But that hair is getting close to Xtina-land in terms of gross.

      • Anonymous

My thoughts exactly. The hair just looks bad, even some smoothing serum would have made it look a bit better. The necklace doesn’t go with the dress, it’s fighting it, even though it’s a great necklace. But the color is great on her, and I’ll begrudgingly second your IN.

    • Anonymous

She’s in, but yeah, the first thing thought when I saw that picture is how tired of her hair I am. She could at least do strawberry blond or waves or something. Blah.

    • Anonymous

she should have saved that necklace for another dress. hate the hair.

    • Anonymous

Ya know, I would have given her a WERQ.  This neckline and shape really suit her, that green is fab, the jewelry is just right, and she looks, well, I mean, green sequins, kittens!

However, if it’s downgraded to an In/Out, I give it an IN.

    • Anonymous

You could fit an XXL slice of pizza pie over that gaping maw of chest.

      • Nancy Abrams

I am forever fascinated by the flat women who choose to wear a deep, wide V neckline that accentuates the vast level acreage of their chests. Gwyneth, Kate Hudson, Natalie Portman, Debra Messing and Goldie Hawn are just a few that come to mind.

        • Judith Mignault

There’s no freaking way a dress like this could not look completely tacky and untastefull on a women with a full pair of breast.  I think it looks much better on flat or semi-flat chested woman.  And what an amazing color!

    • Anonymous

Out. Can’t stand her and the dress looks cheap.

    • dsgv

love her and her wood burning outdoor pizza ovens

    • Anonymous

I think the color of the dress works better on the model than it does on Gwynneth.  I think most greens look better on red heads and some brunettes. I think she looks great overall, and I love to see color on the red carpet.  It’s an in.

    • Anonymous

Thank you for the opportunity.  Hate the hair, too much cleavage, wrong necklace for the dress.

      • Anonymous

I’m with you on the necklace.  It’s all just too much shine (including her hair).  She’d be better off without it.

        • Deborah Jozayt

Maybe a nice bracelet would have worked, but the choker is a no-no.

      • accidental housewife

I don’t like the necklace at all, with or without the dress.

Gwyneth has really crappy hair. I think she’s gotten to the point where she lets it do what it wants to do, which is not a bad attitude to have about your hair. But there’s a big difference between that and not at least trying to make it look good. Girl needs a haircut.

Despite the crappy hair, I give her an IN. She looks great.

    • Anonymous

Aww, I like Gwyneth.  Margot Tenenbaum is one of the most stylish movie characters of all time.  IN.

      • Anonymous

Eh, Margot Tennenbaum looks like a bag lady next to Nicole Bonnet.

      • Anonymous

Eh, Margot Tennenbaum looks like a bag lady next to Nicole Bonnet.

    • Anonymous

IN for sure. That dress is fab.

    • Democracy Diva

I hate Gwyneth, but it’s still an IN.

    • Lauren Maier

I think she looks really good.  IN.

    • Haley Buchanan

IN!  The color and the cut are both beautiful on her and she looks happy and healthy.  The hair is admittedly tragic but the overall look is so very in.

    • Anonymous

      IN, baby, IN!

    • Julie Fountain

She’s annoying and I hate visible sternum, but she does look put together and that’s a great dress. In.

    • Anonymous

I can’t in conscience give her an OUT because dammit, she looks good, but all I can think about is how Zoe Saldana did this better already today. Sigh, IN.

    • Anonymous

I’m sick of her ugly chest – don’t show us that, please, Paltrow, put that bony, ugly chest away!!!

Edited to add: I don’t understand how anyone can think that neckline looks good on her. Her bones are all sticking out and then she has partial boobs hanging low. OUT!!!

      • Anonymous

As a fellow thin, relatively flat chested woman, I take offense with this. I will never understand how it is sacrilege to criticize a curvy woman, but thin women remain fair game for snark.

        • Anonymous

          Yes, exactly.

I think it’s considered OK because thin girls are the runway standard. But it’s not.

The very worst one has to be ‘real women have curves’. Or maybe ‘Men don’t want to shag an ironing board’. It’s not OK to boost the self-esteem of big women by belittling thin women.

          • teh kou

Or how about “she just needs to eat a sandwich.” Because obviously all thin women get thin by starving themselves, just like all fat women get fat by stuffing themselves…

        • Anonymous

No harm intended, I just meant that why does she wear such a low cut gown when many other styles would look good on her. I also wouldn’t like a busty woman spilling out all over her gown, so you are making an assumption that I wouldn’t criticize that. Also, I think you shouldn’t worry about taking offense from a stranger on the internet. Life is too short for that. Peace.

        • Vera

I suppose it’s because women who aren’t a size 0 get constantly told (at least in the maninstream media) that we are less than desirable. I’m generally comfortable being a size 8, but in the world of fashion, I’m plus size. That made me feel bad until I got over it. I go to the gym with my slender friend, and people would actually go up to her and ask why was she working out. That opened my eyes. All women are real. It’s the idealization of some that causes problems.

          • Anonymous

When I was in high school, the boy I liked told me I was perfect in every way except he couldn’t date me because I was too skinny (code for my boobs are too small). Four girls in my graduating class got boob jobs as presents. I’m lucky to have embraced my itty bitty titties, but I think I am still overly sensitive to any type of body criticism because I have known far too many people who take it to heart.

So point is, I think the only women who seem immune to scrutiny about their bodies are Victoria’s Secret models: thin women with big boobs.

            • teh kou

Nah, they have their own problems, just in a different way. Like having it assumed they must be sluts, that they are made for sex, are “putting it on display” even in a baggy sweater, etc.

      • Anonymous

I would rephrase to say that it would have looked better had she not had so much shimmer on the chest because that highlights her thinness unattractively. The woman on the runway is probably just as thin as she is, but because she doesn’t have the shimmer making her sternum stand out it doesn’t look as severe.

    • Anonymous

IN. She’s wearing a bright sequined gown. It could only be better if it was a LOLCat wearing a bright sequined gown.

    • Anonymous

IN. Just imagine, she could have paired mermaid hair with this dress instead…

    • Jaime

Not a fan of the necklace, but the dress is beautiful and that’s a great color. In.

    • Stella Zawistowski

Much as she annoys me, I cannot deny the power of that look. IN.

    • Jenna Gordon

love love love that dress but the necklace is just way too much. the shape interrupts the wonderful flow of the neckline of the dress. plus the dress is super blingy so why feel the need to add a super blingy necklace. i think some leather accessories would have been nice. also over the hair. honey you’ve got the money so go buy yourself a new haircut.

      • Anonymous

I’m with you on the necklace.

    • Anonymous

In. Hell, she’s pulling off a long green sequin gown, which screams a WERQ to me. I really don’t get why she gets so much hate. I mean, yeah, she’s annoying and ridiculous and totally clueless, and her pretentious website is completely hilarious.  She certainly deserves an eyeroll (okay, probably more than one), but the hate seems totally out of proportion to me.

      • Deborah Jozayt

I don’t really dislike her, either. I definitely understand where the hate is coming from, though. When I used to try and recreate some of Martha Stewart’s lifestyle suggestions with decorating the house and whatnot, my husband would ask me why I was doing it. I honestly felt like our home could look “better” somehow, but had I never heard of Martha Stewart, I would never have felt that my home wasn’t worthy in the first place.

Paltrow is now in Martha Stewart territory, but her lifestyle suggestions involve raising your children. It’s so much harder to feel as “worthy” as a mother with Paltrow around if don’t have the money, time, or maids/nannies like she does to raise them in the way she suggests. I would expect a ton of bitterness toward her for giving people the opportunity to feel that way. jmo.

    • Aidan B

How does she manage to look so good here? That color on anyone else would have us shouting “LEPRECHAUN!” at them. Such are the wonders of Elie Saab.
IN, Gwennie. So very in. But please change hair colorists, for all our sakes.

    • Liana Brooks

      IN – She looks fabulous.

    • Joanna Schuth

      hate her, but that’s a full-on WERQ.

    • Anonymous

Damn.  I really don’t care for her, or see her appeal.  But this dress is stunning.  Her hair is awful, but it always looks this way.

I have to go with In because THAT DRESS!  This green is gorgeous; I’m glad to see it on the runway.

    • Anonymous

      IN. Gorgeous is gorgeous.

    • Ailsa Martin

Well sure, she looks great. She’s a tall thin hot blonde rich white woman in a really pretty dress.

But bitches, please. She is NO Zoe Saldana.

    • Anonymous

IN. Gorgeous. Now go toss out your flat iron.

    • Molly Harrington

Although I’m not really too keen on Gwynnie, she looks stunning. IN without a doubt.

    • Anonymous

Even it’s time to age gracefully and get a new hairdo, the necklace makes the whole thing look matronly.

    • Sara Munoz

I hate the necklace and the hair. But that dress is TO DIE.
I think my love for the latter is outweighing my hate for the formers.

So I’m gonna have to go with IN.

    • Bethany Roullett

IN.  With a side of ‘WERQ’.

    • Anonymous

I hate to love it but I do! IN.

    • Christopher

      In,  begrudgingly

    • CQAussie

Enh.  That dress is gorgeous but for some reason, it just doesn’t look….right….on her.  Especially since Zoe Saldana just killed it with her version of a green dress from Elie Saab.

Oh whatever.  It’s Friday.  Gwynnie looks fine here even if the necklace is messing with me so alright fine, IN.

    • Robert Sanchez

I don’t think the color is right for her, it makes her look like a Christmas tree. It would work better on a brunette. For me, it’s “out” because Gwyneth is always out.

    • Ally Monge

I was ready to strangle her by the end of her stint on Glee, but as someone else said, there is no denying she looks so glam here. Love the dress, love the color, love the jewelry. IN.

    • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

IN!! Fuck-her for being so beautiful in beautiful clothes!  I could have done without such a big necklace.

    • Francesca Lagmay

She looks fabulous but I am so sick of that hair…. IN anyway

    • Tiger Gray

I hate that necklace with this dress. She looks like a Christmas tree. OUT.

    • Anonymous

I hate the hair and I can’t stand Gwyneth, but she looks good here so it’s a reluctant In.

    • Pam Winters

In. This is her happy zone.

    • Leslie S

love her, always will. haters gonna hate!

    • Anonymous

IN! Fuck the haters! Plus it is a lovely color on her!

    • Anonymous

      She’s IN. Dammit.

    • Mary Gallagher

Hate her but love the dress.

    • Anonymous

Clearly, someone needs to be the adult, rational gay here so….. WERQ!  You go girl, that color, cut and everything is dead on.  Grow up boys!  LOL! :)

    • Anonymous

Not a fan of the visible rib cage neckline. OUT.

    • Sara__B

The expiration date has come and gone on her hair style (I suspect she has difficult hair, though, and can’t do much with it). The necklace is a bit too much and I’m not a fan of the wide and low neckline. She’s also one of the the world’s most annoying, albeit harmless and well-meaning, people. Even so, she looks striking in that column of sparkling green. IN.

    • Anonymous

I am just not getting the proliferation of dresses that are open down to the waist.

      • Anonymous

Agree, agree, agree. If I weren’t already a crank on several aspects of red carpet celebrity dressing, I’d be a crank about that one.  But I’m trying to pace myself.

    • Anonymous

Bad necklace choice.. awesome dress.  In.

    • Alisa Rivera

I’m in the minority here but I’m just not crazy about that dress. The shape is very figure-flattering but the fabric looks like Christmas tinsel, and the necklace doesn’t help. Plus the green doesn’t suit her coloring. Out.

    • bookish

IN. I love that dress. And while Gwyneth may be mildly annoying, I still love her in Shakespeare in Love so she’ll probably always get a pass from me.

    •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

She looks pretty damn great here, but I’m still trying to decide whether it’s fair to punish her for perpetuating that damn sternum-glorifying trend.

Oh, the hell with fair.  OUT.  The only bones that look good highlighted are cheekbones.

    • Anonymous

This was exactly my thought process. Besides, the dress is wearing her. And I can’t stand her. OUT.

    • Kate Pearce

IN, she looks lovely. :) And she is smiling.

    • Judy S

IN. She looks both glamorous and unmistakeably herself.

    • Rhonda Hanson

IN – she looks gorgeous. Why do people hate her?

    • Anonymous

I’m reluctantly going with IN. She’s flat enough to be able to pull of the deep V, and I just adore the necklace.
The hair is what kept me from giving her an enthusiastic in.

    • MilaXX

I’d give it a small IN. I hate the hair and think the necklace is unneeded, but the dress fits well & the color is great.

    • Anonymous

I can’t decide if I love the dress or if she looks like she should be on a Christmas tree

    • Delysia LaFosse

The hair is boring. And honestly, I wish the neckline were a smidge narrower. But I can’t deny that this is pretty smashing, all things considered – IN.

    • Jamie

      IN – she looks fab!

    • S. B. Hadley Wilson

    • Tracy Alexander

IN, although I don’t particularly like the necklace. I think it detracts from the look…much prefer the unadorned model version.

    • Anonymous

In. The hair is too surfer girl for the dress, but that’s a quibble.

    • Anonymous

In.  The dress and necklace are great.  The flat hair is less great, but not bad enough to take away the in.

    • Susan Crawford

Listen, T & Lo: this is why I am your devoted bitter kitten for LIFE! You just get that I need to rant about the Goopster on a regular basis in order to help regulate my blood pressure. Aaaanyway, much as I hate to admit it, this IS a stunning look for her. The color of the gown is perfect, the bling is to die for, the fit is excellent. I am VERY tired of that  flatironed, limp and listless hair, though. The ends look as though a honey badger chewed them, ’cause honey badger don’t give a sh*t. Think blunt-cut, shoulder-length bob, Goop.

But, reluctantly, I have to say this is an IN.

    • up with pod people

Irritating silver spoon she may be but that dress, that colour, that necklace. Nailed it, IN

    • Vickie Lord

Way way in, what more could you want???

    • Anonymous

    • Anonymous

I say IN because she looks fabulous, despite my general distaste for Her GOOPness.

    • Anonymous

Stunning minus the necklace. A floorlength sequin explosion definitely doesn’t need more sparkles, as gorgeous as that necklace is.

(her hair is looking especially limp here, isn’t it?)

    • M S

I hate myself for thinking she looks stunning.

    • Presumptuous Insect

      OUT. Loathsome, tone-deaf shithead.

    • Anonymous

Wow, I love that dress.  IN.  (Hair is out but I don’t even notice it much anymore because it’s always the same.)

    • Anonymous

I loooove that necklace.  IN for sure.

    • Paula Berman

She’s in, but I don’t hate her.  I met her in LAX around the time when Se7en came out, and she was really nice, so I have had trouble getting on the Hate!Gwyneth bandwagon.

    • MandyJane

      In, that dress is fab.

    • Anonymous

She does get on my last nerve and her hair is Tragic but I gotta give her an IN for that fabulous dress in that vibrant color.

    • Meghan Young

A very resentful in, and get some new hair, Goopy.

    • Kelly Berryman

      Lose the necklace.

    • Anonymous

I just don’t know. What IS it about this woman that makes me want to beat her senseless with a baseball bat? It would be wrong to give more thought, though, to this paragon of self-regard, so I’ll just say, happy weekend to all!

    • Anonymous

gorgeous dress. makes her look a little seasick or perhaps seaworthy green but not too green.

i dont have any cat videos, i am sorry to say, but if you want hundreds & hundreds of cat photos, well then: i am yr man.

    • Anonymous

Man, I hate Gwynnie.  But, WERQ!

    • Melissa Della

I HATE her hair as always…ugh. But there’s no denying the dress looks fantastic on her. Undecided on the makeup. Grudging IN, but girl, get a new hairstylist.

    • Mariah J

I hate that necklace with the dress, terrible choice, but overall still

    • Cautiously Pessimistic

In, but the hair and the dress aren’t working together all that well.

    • Anonymous

She’s a little twerp, and that’s a killer dress. IN

    • stephanie bennett

i LOVE her, and HATE this.  go figure.

    • Anonymous

      In! She’s a mermaid goddess!

    • Anonymous

Sick of the hair, too, but LOVE everything else. I would totally push past the In and go straight to the WERQ, and she does bug the shit out of me, but I gotta give credit where it is due.

    • Anonymous

I don’t care who you are, your neckline should not expose your abs.

    • Richi Robilotto

From the neck down, she looks amazing. That hair is killing it, though. It would be nice if she actually did something with it once in a while.  OUT.

    • Anonymous

I am not a GP hater and I think she looks great, so IN :)

    • Anonymous

IN! She’s hilarious and doesn’t pretend to be part of the proletariat, which I find refreshing. The dress is gorgeous, and it’s gorgeous on her.

    • elzatelzabelz

IN(ish)- I really detest that necklace messing up the lines of the dress.

    • Anonymous

I feel like the flat hair is almost becoming a signature look for her, and she is definitely WERQing that gown.  IN.

    • Matt Morris

i think she has become so interesting in recent years (her cookbook, her show with mario, glee…), even if she is still coming across as a snob. this is not a color i would normally like, and i think that with the flat hair ending in points she has a whiff of ‘princess of the lizard people,’ but i think that it is a wise look to contextualize that elaborate necklace. IN in my book.

    • Anonymous

      IN! In, in, in.

      Nah, girl looks chic. IN

    • Anonymous

Aw, I think she’s a kook and I’m not sure I’d want to be besties, but I’ve never hated her. And it is a nice look. IN!

    • Anonymous

She’s IN, but I don’t like her. Or her hair.

    • Marissa

Hate her, and I’d lose the necklace, but I can’t deny she looks phenomenal. IN.

    • Jill Tracy

      IN! It’s a great COLOR!

    • jenna yarema

i agree on the point of the necklace– it’s necessary to save her look from being a total clone of the runway. and it’s a shame we can’t glimpse her shoes. but frankly, flat-ironed hair suits gwyneth best. an up-do would have put too much emphasis on the neckline and made her look a little gaudy. the shoulder-grazing style lends some subtlety and elegance. definite IN.

    • Sara Parker

IN! I love everything about this, so I am absolutely willing to forgive the hair.

    • Super Red

I hate the necklace with the dress, and I hate the plunging neckline(I always do, but especially with that necklace)

I can’t deny that she looks pretty good, but I’m feeling contrary tonight, so OUT.

    • The Fashion Palate

fine. BUT did you see the absolutely fab green sparkling dress by the same designer on Zoe Saldana? Now that’s a WERQ.

    • Linde Hoff

As annoying as she is when she opens her mouth (and isn’t “in character” of some sort), she look fabulous.  That truly is a divine color, and the necklace truly is perfect.  Good call, you guys, but I don’t blame you for having a hard time hitting the WERQ button for this gal.  We appreciate the opportunity to weigh in on the matter!!!!

    • Anonymous

Out. The necklace is wrong and the dress is too glittery.

    • Christine

    • Ali

It’s an IN because the dress is gorgeous, but that necklace is too much and the hair is way too flat to be a WERQ.

LOVE IT!!! Knock out gown and fabulous Bling!

      WERQ for sure.  dddaayyyuumm.

I saw some Christmas decorations that looked like this and put them back.  Too green, too sparkly.

    • Helen C

I have to say, even I really dislike her, she looks great here.  It’s one of the few times that I actually believe she knows how to dress and her “fashion icon” status is not a complete joke (I’m looking at you, Boobs Legly).

    • Anonymous

      IN, I love it.

    • Anonymous

I wish she’d done something (anything!) with her hair, but that dress is absolutely stunning.  IN.

      IN. WERQ. Love the necklace.

Hate the deep V…it’s not attractive in the least, and dislike the necklace with this gown too.

All that green…uhm…quite fitting for Goop.  😉

    • Anonymous

      In.  Gorgeous.

    • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

Nope, IN. she looks Fab.and god bless her for wearing a color

    • Anonymous

IN, for the color. But are those really sequins, or are my eyes playing tricks on me? Because I will never be able to think of sequins as belonging anywhere other than ice show costumes and sewing projects for children.

Although the intense green does bring to mind St. Paddy’s Day, Gwynnie is WERQin’ it for all it’s worth.

    • Linda Harris

no one mentioned how scraggly the ends of her hair look

    • Nora Mulllin

IN. I still hate her a little bit but she looks fabulous. Although she could stand to do something different with her hair.

    • Megan Moore

I’m at best ambivalent about her, but I do think she looks really good here, a lot better than she does most of the time. It’s fun, and she’s not one I usually associate with fun. So IN

    • Emily

Hate to say IN.  I do love the color, it’s fab.

    • emily mcginnis

love the dress. love the necklace. HATE the necklace with the dress. and i think the dress looks better on the model. the neckline seems too wide apart on Gwyneth or something. something is off for me.

    • Michael Podell

the second I saw the phrase “in or out” and “gwenYth paltrow” connected, my mind immediately said OUT. FUCKING SO OUT. THE OUT-EST. THE OUTERMOST BEING IN THE UNIVERSE.

…and I was right. bitch looks like kermit.

She went to college at UCSB which is where I am studying now, and thought of maybe walking down the same hallway she once did makes my skin crawl. I can just picture her trying to get dinner at the dining commons… “Oh my, have you all ever considered the benefits of a wood-burning oven in here? They are positively DIVINE… but of course, I WOULD know that, being my father’s daughter…”

      I just vomited.

      • Anonymous

        Calm down.

    • Anonymous

In, but barely.  Her hair isn’t very special looking plus it’s the same style all of the time.

    • Anonymous

      in…fabulous dress!!!

    • Merneith

Out. I have no problem with Gwyneth, but the dress is a little Jolly Green Gay Giant.

    • Suitcase Gnome

For some reason, this dress reminds me very much of Kermit the Frog. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing…

    • Beth M.

Dangit, she makes me roll my eyes so hard I get a headache, but I can’t deny this look is way IN. If it weren’t for the lank hair, I would even give it a werq.

    • Anonymous

She looks gorgeous in that color, but SHE’S OUT! Because I hate her. and that flat hair. and her fake british accent. and her blog. but i kinda like coldplay.

    • Sorana Tarmu

It was a WERQ. But there is such thing as too bitchy. IN.

    • Aly Light

I was jut watching old Batman episodes, and this dress now reads like a Poison Ivy costume. OUT.

    • Anonymous

Gorgeous dress. IN. The hip detail on this is perfect for her straight body — it actually gives her hips!

    • Anonymous

I love the dress but hate the necklace with the dress.  It just doesn’t work for me.  She’s still in though.

    • mcglory13

I know she’s painfully not aware of her own privilege, but I kind of love her. And she looks stunning. In.

IN. I just watched The talented Mister Ripley again and damn she’s good in it.

      She looks stunning. IN.

    • Aaminah Khan

I’m secretly kinda a huge fan of hers. :p

    • AWStevens

Yeah but… flat hair is IN.  And she looks spectacular!  IN

    • JillK

      IN! Fuck the haters! :)

    • Anonymous

My tolerance for her is very very low, but damn she looks amazing.  In!

    • Anonymous

IN. She looks so good, I couldn’t find anything catty to say. Even her smile is lovely.

Was this supposed to be an object lesson to teach us that we can, on occasion, be kind and gentle kittens?? If so, it worked, but I feel a little dirty. I think I need some crazy Paz to take the nice taste out of my mouth.

    • Anonymous

I am also sick of the flat ironed hair. She should probably stop doing that anyway, because her hair looks really dry. I find her pretentious and irritating but I can’t deny she looks amazing here. IN!

    • Cokie Anderson

All I can think of is the plastic grass we had in Easter baskets when I was a kid.

    • Anonymous

In. I love that color green.

    • Lisa Sullivan

I think all of it works together. She is a bit of a plain jane and I’m happy she stays fresh-faced and not over the top.

    • Anonymous

In, her hair looks like it needs a shampoo and blow dry, but she looks great.

    • bloodshothalfblind

i was ready to yell werq too, but i cant get past that shitty fried out flatiron hairdo 😛  the dress is absolutely slamming, but that hair is inexcusable.

    • Good Shot

I cannot STAND that sternum cut.  Ever.

Nice color, and I’ve liked her since “Malice”, but O U T .

That damn plunging neckline is so unbecoming.

    • Anonymous

      In, she looks great.

    • Anne Slovin

I like it a lot, and it FITS HER, which is novel, but I think it would have suited her better with a high neckline.  But I think it’s so close to right that I’m giving in an IN.  (Plus I don’t hate her, so there’s that.)

    • Anonymous

OUT.  Hate her, and she looks like a St. Patty’s Pride Float.

She has such a strange-looking chest…I’ve never understood why she goes for these deep-plunging-wide-spread necklines all the time.

And I could go to my local Wal-mart right now and find 10 girls with that same ugly hair.  They would just have more obvious roots.

    • Anonymous

I don’t mind the flat hair so much as the fact it looks super-fried. And something about the deep-v + train + green sequin scales reads The Little Mermaid to me. BUT, that said, she still looks really pretty, so IN from me.

    • Anonymous

      She looks amazing. IN!
P.S. love the new header, very chic.

    • Mags

Ugh, as much as I hate her and her stupid flat hair, she does look good. IN.

    • Anonymous

She annoys me, but I actually think she’s a really good actress. Love the dress, but it needs to stand alone. The necklace is too much. It takes it into ’80s/CMA territory, like she’s still promoting Country Strong. The dress would look so much more sophisticated without it.

    • Terence Ng

I like the color in theory, but on her, it looks like party wrap foil. I want to give it an IN, but something about it says OUT to me.

    • Sabina Kallstrom

IN!!!! Fuck the Haters, Gwynnie, you look fab. WERQ!

    • Anonymous

I understand why people hate her, but I have to give her credit for being endearingly open and honest. The only reason people know she’s insufferable is because she is too naturally genuine to be able to hide it. She really does look wonderful here, too. IN.

    • Anonymous

I don’t hate her, but I might hate that necklace with this dress. I don’t hate her hair, but I am kind of sick of that shtick.

But how can you argue with that dress? She still looks amazing. IN.

    • Geno Boggiatto

      IN IN IN IN

    • Rachel Council

IN. I can’t stand her, but that doesn’t change the fact she looks great, although I would’ve picked a much lower necklace or gone without entirely.

      • Claudia Gilbert

Totally agree.  Its gotta be an in.  We’re nothing if not fair.

    • Anonymous

      In! She looks amazing.

    • Nimith

The first words that came to mind were, ‘Christmas Tree ornament.’

    • Anonymous

In. Wrong necklace, dress is too long and I hate her hair but it’s a pretty dress in a great colour and props to her for that.

    • bebo

Great dress, No to the necklace with that hair.

    • Anonymous

I like Gwyneth! I think she’s a talented actress, which already puts her ahead of so many actors on a similar level, and she’s beautiful, and actually pretty harmless. Ridiculous and often quite annoying, but harmless.

Oh, and definitely an IN. Gorgeous gown!

    • taodon

IN – if only because every dog has its day….

    • tom markiewicz

i adore the dress on her, but hate the hair, and HATE the necklace! something duller, funnily enough, would have been better against all that glittery green. a blackened silver or something with less shine would have been stunning.

    • Anonymous

    • Anonymous

i hate her forevsies, but this is flat-out FABULOUS. i don’t adore her middle part, ironed straight hair either, but imo it does work in this case. bottom line, much as i loathe to type it, sistergirl is IN.

    • Anonymous

Out.  Looks like a Christmas present.

    • Anonymous

      A dazzling mermaid! In.

    • Catherine Rhodes

IN. She got robbed of a WERQ.

    • Janie R

The dress is gorgeous, and her jewelry and makeup, but the hair just ruins it for me. It looks like I fixed her hair. Or she’s just trying on everything before she gets her hair done.

    • Stefanos Mantyla

Well, it is a Elie Saab. How can one go wrong with that? At least the colour is something new, and great neckline, so IN.

      • Stefanos Mantyla

Besides, you gave a WERQ to someone else in a great dress (which actually seemed less and less great the more I looked at it) but lackluster hair and makeup. *cough* Jennifer Hudson *cough*

    • Anonymous

IN. Fuck the haters. As ridiculous as she is, I’ve always sort of adored her. I think she’d be fun to hang out with one on one. Also that entire collection of gowns is insanely gorgeous and I would like to get married in the one Zoe Saldana wore the other day. TLo, put in a good word for me with Elie.

    • myblackfriendsays

      IN! Love that dress.

    • suzq

That dress must weigh 60 lbs!  Good thing she works out!  I like the color.  In.  What the hell.

    • Jessica Hanson Lidh

I say, “That dress is gorgeous.”
Husband says, “That dress looks like the matrix.”LOL.

    • Elena

I don’t think she needed the necklace, and I hate her stringy hair that she always wears with thousand dollar gowns.

But I can’t say out to an Elie Saab gown.

      So, IN.

    • Dee B

I think she should have left the necklace off, but it’s still IN.

    • Anonymous

I love Gwyneth, but OUT. Posture is awful in first photo. Take off the necklace and fluff the hair.

    • Anonymous

IN.  This about as good as I’ve ever seen her look (not in a costume).  Hair is still boring, though.

    • Anonymous

IN. She looks beautiful. I love that color. Although I agree about the hair–she needed something more glamorous for this stunning dress.

    • Anonymous

      In. Nothing else to say.

    • Anonymous

Out. I am not full on hater but she can grate. I am giving her an out because it just doesn’t work for me. Gwen looks like a fish out of water in that gown.

I don’t understand the necklace at all. What is up these celebs?  How often do they need something shiny to finish an outfit and wear nothing. She pairs a giant sparkly necklace with a giant sparkly dress. WTF

Finally the hair … that long stringy limp hair!

Now just imagine Catherine Zeta Jones or maybe even Angelina Joelie in that gown. I think that dress belongs on someone with different coloring to knock it of the park.

      • Anonymous

Yes, this could have been amazing on Catherine Zeta Jones, who has the bearing and the coloring to WERQ it.

      • Anonymous

The hair is horrid. Not just limp and flat, but downright scraggly-looking.

    • Rachel Lee

    • Anonymous

IN! What a gorgeous dress. Agree about the hair though.

    • Anonymous

    • Jessica Charlotte Siewierkiewi

In! I have no personal issue with her (mainly because I haven’t been exposed to her), therefore I will neutrally judge her as IN.

    • Anonymous

Absolutely OUT. Please. That color is so garish with her coloring – she looks like a huge piece of tinsel. If you’re going to go with an emerald gown, it needs to go with something more glam than surfer girl blah hair and make-up.  The necklace is also way too heavy. Overkill.

    • Anonymous

OUT.  It’s a fabulous, fabulous dress but it’s not HER dress. She’s altogether too clean and scrubbed. It should be on someone with more natural glamour, say Zoe Saldana or Marion Cotillard.  Also the hair is TERRIBLE and the necklace totally unnecessary.

But then I find her immensely irritating and ridiculous, so maybe I’m biased.

      • Anonymous

    • Austen Jane

Damn everything about that dress on her is right. Fab.

    • Anonymous

OUT.  The bony sternum thing is such a turn-off — look at the difference on the runway version.  And the short necklace just calls attention to it.

    • M M

      I see sprayed-on tan.

    • Anonymous

    • Anonymous

Poor dear, she tries so very hard, but I see this as a noble effort undermined by a lot of “if onlys”: the dress is a super color on her, but if ONLY the neckline had been altered a bit so it didn’t plunge to her navel; the necklace is to die for but if ONLY she had borrowed it to wear with a different dress, one where the competition for attention was not so fierce; her hair is her trademark but if ONLY she had opted out of the Mod Squad Peggy Lipton ‘do for this once…..

Sorry, Gwyneth, you’re OUT.  I hope little Apple gives you extra hugs to get over your despair.

    • Jeff

This is a WERQ and it’s sad that your bias is bastardizing your blogging.

      • Stefanos Mantyla

I think T Lo are being facetious about it! I am pretty sure they expect us to vote her IN so they do not have to do it themselves. At least they are being quite open about their bias, right? Undisclosed biases are more dangerous, no?

      • Anonymous

IMO, the hair and necklace keep it firmly out of WERQ territory. The gown is doing all of the work.

      • Tom and Lorenzo

Lighten up, Mary. If this is making you sad, you need to go out and get some sun on your face.

    • Anonymous

For someone who does yoga, Gwynnie’s posture never looks that great. In the first picture, her shoulders and lower body look slumped down. To carry off that neckline, you need to stand tall with shoulders back. And I hate her hair. So harsh and unflattering. But still, a reluctant IN for dress and necklace.

    • paula.pertile

Otherwise she looks lovely, I suppose.

    • Victoria Pavlova

I don’t like the necklace – model looks much sharper without it. And hair has been flattened to the extreme.

      • Anonymous

But the necklace has DIAMONDS and is obviously worth hundreds of thousands, and some high-end jeweler is paying her to show it off …

        • Victoria Pavlova

yeah, I know, work is work :)

    • Natasha Fairweather

I loathe her as much as the next gal, but she looks great here. In.

    • Anonymous

In. First, I’ve never understood the intense Gwenyth hatred that everyone feels. Second, girl looks fierce homg.

    • Anonymous

Really hard to argue with this in. In.

    • Anonymous

I think the understated hair looks okay with the dress, but that’s just me. IN.

    • Anonymous

I’ll give her a reluctant IN…only because she’s wearing an unusual color for the RC and the dress suits her shape nicely. I totally disagree with you guys about the necklace though. It’s gorgeous…but it takes your eyes away from the deep V and she’s already bedazzled enough. Sad hair.

    • Anonymous

She looks great. Not many people could wear that dress. And I don’t get all the flat hair hatred. That’s exactly what my hair looks like if I do nothing to it–I would kill for curls!

    • Anonymous

    • Erica Moon

      Perfect – perfect.

    • Anonymous

I can’t give her an out based on hair alone, but I do hate it here.  Not because it’s flat, but because it does nothing for her.  She needs a cut/style that doesn’t leave it looking like old hay.

    • Anonymous

      IN, love it….

    • L.

IN!  She just needs a trim for those ends.

    • Anonymous

I cannot bear to say she’s IN… will have to abstain.

    • Anonymous

      Stunning! IN.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

ON the basis of the hair, which looks fried, and the necklace, which is the wrong choice for that dress, and because I can’t stand her, OUT.

    • Anonymous

In but the hair takes off points.

    • Anonymous

I’m going to say IN, even though I don’t like the necklace. It detracts from the long line of her neck to her face. The hair is tired.

    • Anonymous

OUT on the hair alone and posture alone. Have been over it for years now. And the necklace competes with the gown and (ugh) hair too much; I think a bracelet might have been better. But that gown is spectacular and looks good on her.

    • katie

    • Vivi N

IN. Despite that unfortunate choker. But I’m sure it was placed there to not exactly copy the RW look.

    • nicole seligman

In In In. now let’s see a werq post for zoe saldana in the same dress!

    • Katie Dunneback

I am not a fan of hers, but I’m still giving her an IN. That dress really is in one of her perfect colors and the necklace is the perfect accent piece for it. As you’ve already said, the flat-ironed hair detracts. She needs a conditioning treatment or a heck of a lot more product as there are so many flyaways (says someone who also suffers from flyaways).

    • Anonymous

Oh, come on, in! It’s like the Emerald City as a dress!

    • Anonymous

But, a straight up WERQ would’ve been so unique on the part of T Lo, leaving us to stew in our Gwynie hatred. I however, am not a hater and never have been. I think she looks fab – flat hair and all – so she gets a big old IN from me.

    • Anonymous

Fuck the haters! IN! (But I’m not a huge fan of the necklace)

    • Ebony Dawkins

Just….do something else with your hair, Gwen.  For the love of all things righteous and good…just get a different hairstyle.

    • Carmel Zimmerman

OUT!  Sorry, duckies.  Hate the neckline but love the necklace.  Hate the flat hair but love Gweneth!

    • Anonymous

Only because Zoe Saldana wore a better version at the Latin Grammys.

    • Anonymous

Totally IN. I know she is self satisfied and smug but I do not get why the Gwyn hate is so bitter and twisted.

    • Celia

You’ve got to be joking. She looks like she dressed for the CMAs.

    • Paige Boerman

Resounding IN! She drives me nuts, but she looks gorgeous.

    • Vera

Yes, I’m a bitter, judgemental kitten, but a fair one. She really looks good in the dress. The color really works on her, and brings her out. Totally IN, but you are correct, the hair holds to back from being a WERQ.

    • Anonymous

IN love the color on her, dress fits perfectly, jewelry is amazing.  Hair is meh, but whatever.

    • Anonymous

In!  Love the color, love the subtly ’30s feel of it, and the necklace is killer.  For once, I like the straight hair, because it keeps it from going retro, but if she pairs it with another neutral column, we’re going to have a talk.

    • Anplica Fiore

Beautiful! My only complaint is that I don’t like the belt since it cuts that beautiful dress in half.  IN!

    • Anonymous

If people are so pathetic as to get so twisted up in hatred over some actress that has zero effect on their lives then that’s their problem. Some people need to learn a bit of detachment!
Have no opinion on her either way. But the dress is a bit different and looks good on her. Not so keen on the necklace with it, but her hair is just her hair and simple is probably better with this.

    • Judy_J

Love the dress, love the color, love the way it fits.  Now if she would just do something with that hippie-chick hair…….

    • Anonymous

Definitely in … Bold, beautiful, over the top and she looks happy.

    • Jessica Ballinger

As someone with green eyes I am CONSTANTLY looking for exactly that shade in anything.  I hate her hair too, but with Gwennie you’re never going to get anything else.  Anyway, I couldn’t possibly declare that green out.

      So, IN!

    • Anonymous

I don’t like anything about that dress at all — I realize I’m in the minority here — but to me it looks weirdly cheap for Elie Saab, the color looks prom-y, and with her nearly boobless figure she can’t carry off a dress cut down to her belly button that then, to top things off, also has shoulder pads, it’s just too much the silouhette of a football player.

    • Anonymous

I think the necklace is totally unnecessary, and her hair does bore me to tears, and I hate the bitch, but this is STILL AN IN. That dress is perfect.

    • Lisa

IN!  Who cares if half the internet hates her?  She looks awesome – credit where credit is due and all that.

    • Anonymous

Green.  Sequins.  I just can’t.  The necklace length and color compete with the deep-v and the green.  Now if this had been in a platinum and no choker…. hmmmm.   Hair is tragic.

    • MinAgain

It’s a good dress, and, for once, she doesn’t look like she’s sucking on a persimmon.  The necklace is fabulous, can’t tell anything about her shoes, but her hair is pretty boring.

    • maybe more

Would have been flawless if her hair was up and she was actually working the dress, instead of looking nervous — like always.

    • Kimberly S-W

ok, she looks great minus the boring ass hair and boring ass face.  blah.

    • Anonymous

In, although I completely agree about the hair. But the dress if pretty fabu.

    • Megan K.

Wow, I want to hate her but INNNNNNN.

    • Carrie

Not a fan of hers, but even though the hair is duller than dirt, that dress is fabulous. IN

    • Anonymous

Dress looks great. Choker is a good choice. Her hair is so tired, it needs a week at Canyon Ranch to get its pep back.

    • Anonymous

IN: she’s pretty damn gorgeous in this one. What a fantastic dress. Great color.

    • Mary McClelland

In, but seriously Gwynnie enough with that 2006 hair!

    • Therese Bohn

IN from a happy cat, Love it, and happy early Christmas, Gweneth!

    • fragileindustries

Maybe it’s my monitor, but the runway shots on this dress show a green greener than all the green in Emerald City — and that’s all I could see.  If the Wicked Witch of the West needed glamour shots, she’d wear this dress.  Otherwise, the color is abominable.  On Gwyneth, the green is the shade of sea moss, dark and mottled.  Suddenly, I can see the dress, and it is AMAZING.  And wonderful on her.  (Except for the hair.  Why not a simple chignon, if she wants sleek?)

    • Nancy Imperiale

Out. Done better by JLo in the ’90s.

    • Anonymous

I’ve never had a problem with Gwyneth, but I very often have a problem with her hair, and this is no exception. That said, she is effortlessly working that dress, so: IN!

    • Anonymous

In! It’s a refreshing take on glitter AND it’s not a neutral tea towel of a dress. Also, I Iove a well-deployed green.

    • Anonymous

      Oh, she’s IN.  Damn it.

    • Damien Washington

I think the straight hair is her only real option. She has that Joni Mitchell type of pronounced face that short or curly hair would only amplify.

As for the dress, she looks fine in it, but who with a decent body wouldn’t? It’s so basic. It reminds me of a dress Frederica von Stade wore in A Carnegie Hall Christmas Concert from 1991, only without lapels. Of course Kathleen Battle wore a flaming red gown that went on for days and totally showed her up. Fightin’ bitches –they are timeless!

      Frederica’s frock:

    • Anonymous

It’s an in, though I’d love to see her in something a little more demure, like Zoe S’s green dress the other day.  There’s always something sheer or plunging lately.

    • Badriya Al-Badi’a

marginal Out–the flat front-hanging hair combined with the drape of the dress and the wide deep neckline create an overall impression of droopiness.  But it is a great color and dress; hair up or even pulled back would have pushed her over the In line.

IN but I must differ about the necklace working here – the look is sparkly enough.  It would have been a far more resonding IN if she’d instead done tasteful earrings.  That color and that beading is bling enough.

I hate her, but she’s IN here. GRUMP.

I don’t care how much people hate her, she looks amazing here.  IN.

I think she looks lovely, though I don’t like the way the necklace breaks up the plunging V.  Mostly, I’m just sad she wore it before Angelina Jolie did.  How great would this be on her?  V-neck, sleeves, a color she looks great in and might wear.

I stand firmly in the can’t-stand-her camp, but there’s no denying that she’s a very pretty girl. That pin straight hair, though, is really old and isn’t doing her any favors. She’s got a face that would work with many different hairstyles, yet she always shows up with the same old boring hair.
Anyway, the dress. I like it a lot, but I don’t like it on her. I’m not about to ding a girl for having small boobs, but the cleavage on this dress isn’t doing her any favors. I can’t even describe it. It’s just not looking sexy. Also, it must be said: if she didn’t stand there all slouchy like that, the entire look would come together a little better.

I do appreciate the jewelry, though. Very much. Thank you, Gwynnie, for giving us a little bling when everyone else seems to be afraid to deck themselves out with jewels.

But I’m giving her an OUT on principle. Stand up straight, bitch!

I can’t stand her, but she looks really swell here. A grudging and cranky IN from me.

Love her or hate her, the genius of Elie Saab has made her look fantastic here.  IN. No doubt.

She’s In, except for her hair. But that’s just a minor quibble.

    • Daniele Paulding

she is totally in. the hair is not great, but she looks stunning.

I love to make fun of Gwynnie, heaven knows, but she actually looks great here.  LOVE the color on her.  I do think she could give her hair a little zhuzh, but on the whole, she’s IN.

NO.  1) When did that kelly green color get labelled as “fabulous” because all I can see is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade when I look at it.  2) Her hair is hiddy.  It’s not pretty, it’s thinning, and it’s not in great shape.  She’s too old to have Marsha Brady Hair.  Like her or not, OUT OUT OUT.

Despite the fact that I think she is annoying, she looks amazing.  IN

Oh Lord, no. It looks like it was put together with Hawaiian theme decorations from the party store.

In! But the necklace is NOT perfect (it’s too much with the glittery dress). And, ftr, HATE HUH!!!!

    • hilonwheels

Totally IN! What a killer, stunningly gorgeous dress!

    • Victoria Ross

She looks fabulous, can’t argue with that.
