In or Out: Amy Adams in Roland Mouret

Posted on November 14, 2011

Kittens, what do we all think of this look from Amy?

We’ll tell you what we think. We think it looks sleek and head-turning. We think it fits her like a glove (and that, sadly hasn’t always been the case with her). We think there’s something almost cartoony about the simplicity of the dress coupled with the red, black and white color scheme; as if Little Orphan Annie got a job in an office somewhere. We think the bust is a bit too complicated for its own good and we think that those who get apoplectic over visible bra straps will not like the strap detail here and those for whom it’s no biggie will probably like it. We think pointy-toed silly putty pumps are probably the least egregious of the silly putty genus of lady footwear. And finally, we think most red carpet commenters wouldn’t have used the words “apoplectic” and “egregious” to discuss this dress, but we’re word nerds, so sue us.

Okay, your turn.

IN! Fresh, chic, and clean!

OUT! Ms. Olive Oyl, Human Resources Manager.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s shiny green Matrix dress got an IN from the Bitter Kittens, while Jessica Alba’s too-complicated little back dress got an OUT.

I love you for being word nerds.  And I think she looks lovely…except for the strap detail. I’d normally like it, its kinda retro, but the color of the fabric kills it for me.

    • Gaby Ripoll

Ditto the word nerd love. I feel like I’m always saying, “my favorite bloggers say this!” I’m such a nerd.
Also, I have to say OUT. I don’t mind the bra straps but the top is draped really poorly on Ms. Adams. Also, I know TLo hate bows on grown women, but I think the bow at the waist helped break up the stark lines of the dress and made it somewhat more slimming.

    • Now I am The Bee

Ditto from me, too.  No one smiths a word like TLo.

      • Anonymous

Just one more thing to love about you two: BIG VOCAB! wooohoo! Look at the big brains on TLo!

As for the Look, I wish I could give a half In, half Out. But since I think she did well with the hair and make-up, I’ll give her an IN.

  • Anonymous

IN! She looks hot despite the ugly shoes and the bra straps!

  • Anonymous

Love it! Fresh, chic, head-turning AND Olive Oyl (in a good way!).

  • Jessica

I think she looks fantastic – agree !

  • Anonymous

IN, despite the least egregious putty shoes and nails.  She looks amazing!  Better than the runway version!  Hair is killer!

  • RzYoung

Yep likey like from me. IN

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Definitely IN.  She looks fantastic!  Sleek is the word I used, also.  Dress fits her like a glove.  I even like her hair, which is problematic at times.  Hate those shoes, but otherwise a big ole IN.

  • Stacy

IN! She’s wearing a COLOR, you guys! It fits her! And because it’s all one color, the bust isn’t as complicated as T Lo make it out to be.

  • Anonymous

Surprisingly IN for a corporate milkmaid.

  • Anonymous

    Love. IN

  • Anonymous

I think it’s an ok look. Makeup is great, hair is shiny and pretty, but I don’t like the one-side thing.
The dress fits her nicely and is pretty, but nothing to get excited about. I do wish the hem hit her at the knee, like on the model.  I don’t have a problem with nude shoes in general, but these are the exact same color as her skin, so they’re bothering me.

Still, she looks pretty, so I say she’s IN.

  • Brian Lehman

I like it.  I wish she would have done something more interesting with her shoes and I like the belt from the runway better, but on the whole, I think she looks pretty damn good.

    • Anonymous

Yeah, I agree on the belt. The runway version is better.

  • Sobaika Mirza

IN. Very simple, appropriate, and chic.

  • Jennifer McClory

While I don’t care for the weird brown strap detail or the fact that the bust looks like an ace bandage squeezing her boobage out, I think she looks better than normal.  The silhouette is great on her.  It’s an IN for me.  Barely.

  • Anonymous

IN.  My only reservation is that bow — I like that it’s not in the front (I’m also not a fan of bows on grown women), and I think that the band of black is much sleeker without it, but I’m worried…  Does this mean that the bow is trailing down her ass?

  • Anonymous

    Kinda lovin’ it — IN!

  • Anonymous

In. She wears it well and it’s a head turner. I liked the bow detail [that she eliminated], it introduced a note of girly charm that that (for me, anyway) lightens the tone of the dress.  My one serious quibble is that it’s a bit Moll Flanders for a Muppet movie premiere.

    • Anonymous

I love it that you used the phrase Moll Flanders.  Now I have a nerdy crush on you.

      • Anonymous

How kind! (I try to persuade people that my references are older than I am, but few are fooled.)

  • Manon Eileen

In. She looks pretty hot if you ask me. Even the silly putty pumps are forgiven.

  • Democracy Diva

In, in, in. It’s absolutely stunning and it’s the first time the silly putty shoes haven’t bothered me in months.

  • Aly Light

I think it’s awesome how the dress went from cutesy on the runway model to va-va-voom on Amy. IN, girl, for wearing it better than  the professional does.

    • Anonymous

My thoughts exactly.  And I love that it’s sexy, but not too sexy for a Muppet movie. IN.

  • Kimberly S-W

In!  She super cute and hopefully this is a sign of things to come!

  • Ass Kicking Adviser

I don’t love it. But I like it. “IN’
And I love my little word nerds.

  • Grace Ritt

The dress is wonderful, but the shoes make me a little sad. She has the chance to wear green pumps and make it a Christmas look (which I know wouldn’t have been good but it would have made me very happy)! Ah well. She gets a half-hearted In.

  • Kayley Maybe

I think she looks chic and well-put together.  While the colors may be a bit cartoony, it’s a MUPPETS event!  When else can you get away with that??  IN

  • Anonymous

She looks great and I won’t even get apoplectic over the straptasticness.

  • Judy_J

I wish she’d kept the runway length on the skirt, but other than that, I have no complaints.  IN.

  • Laura Schultz

IN but I wish she’d worn it to knee length instead of below the knee length. I really like those shoes with this outfit, actually.

  • foodhussy

I think she looks great – the runway model looks a bit like a milk maid – but amy makes it look more fashionable. IN

  • Janie R

In. I like the bust detail, and I like it that she did away wit the bow.

  • Anonymous

IN.  And I’m glad she ditched the bow.  Too twee.

  • Deitra S.

Okay, busted, I hate the visible faux-bra strap thing going on, and at least the shoes have shape, if no color.  But overall I really like the look and think it fits sublimely, so IN! (Heehee apoplectic!)

  • Ali

The color of the strap detail makes it look like a grody bra. I so want to give this an in, but I just can’t get past that. OUT.

    • Anonymous

Exactly so re:the strap’s color. However I am going to say IN because although I hate the visible bra straps, I have had enough time to get over it for fashion’s sake, at least on others. After all, I saw my the first Madonna video on my honeymoon.

      • Ali

If it was ANY other color, I’d not like it, but give it an in. That dingy color makes it look like it’s old and grody.

  • Anonymous

    She looks sleek and fresh.

I wish I could make my hair look hers for more than 30 minutes.

  • Catherine

IN! I think the detail at the bust, sleekness and length of the skirt and taupe straps keep it interesting. This could absolutely NOT work in most corporate settings because of those straps alone – it looks expensive, as well it should. Love this look on her.

  • Susan Collier

In! I am not witty, nor a wordsmith.

  • Anonymous

I dunno.. it looks like the sleeves are hindering. And the hem is too long. But I guess overall I’d still give it an IN.

  • scottyf

I find your lexiconic prowess both exhilarating and erudite.  In other words:

And Ms. Adams is definitely an IN.

  • Charlotte Horseman

IN (ish).  She looks really pretty – but I don’t love the bra straps.  They seem more ‘bra strapy” on Amy than the model – maybe because of the way she’s standing and that she has more need for a bra than the moderl

  • Anonymous

There is something vaguely German-beer-maid about the neckline (? Is it just me?), but the rest of the color, cut, and fit is exceptional. I say IN.

    • Anonymous

      Not just you.

  • Anonymous

I don’t usually go apoplectic over visible bra straps, but I am over those.  Not only do they look like bra straps, they look like the bra straps of my grandmother.  Out.

  • Anonymous

In. She often dresses like a cutie-pie, so the sexy silhouette is a nice change, while still true to her persona.

“Egregious” is my favorite word in the English language. Better even than “serendipity.”

  • Angelica Smith Mertens

Silly putty…I didn’t like it when I was a kid…sure don’t like it now.  I don’t really like the top, but it does fit her like a glove.  I do like the fact that she went for a simple black band at the waist instead of that ugly bow.  Overall, not bad, but could have been better…oh, and darlings, you are not nerds for you usage of vocabulary!  I think it’s wonderful!

  • Anonymous

    IN. Very chic.

  • Anonymous

I didn’t see the Olive Oil/Little Orphan Annie imagery at all…I’m thinking more of a ’60s Parisian or Italian chic look.  idk..but I kind of like it for her and overall she looks lovely, despite the sp shoes.

  • Anonymous

In.  It looks sharp and fits well. I like the absence of the bow in the front.  I used to hate visible bra straps, having grown up in a time when they were a horrible embarrassment, but I after having seen them far too often on my daughters and their friends, I’ve gotten used to them.

  • Anplica Fiore

In – she looks very good – even with the complicated bodice and straps.  I’d of loved some more interesting shoes with this, but the silly putty works with the straps.

  • Anonymous

IN for me, though I wish the straps had been a colour and not the neutral shade of blegh they are. I have no issue with visible bra straps and would have liked them to be a little more visible lol. I think she does look fabulous here and she usually doesn’t.

  • Anonymous

  • Anonymous

Can I just say that this word nerd LOVES you both? My computer keyboard may not thank you, but I thank you for making me laugh (and spit my tea out) nearly every morning.

Amy looks great here, but I just can’t give those shoulder straps a pass. If they hadn’t been part of her ensemble, I would have given her an “IN.” I’m going to abstain this time, because she’s not really an “OUT” here, either. PS I also hate see-through bra straps and that weird nude fabric on figure skater’s costumes that’s somehow made its way onto red carpets as of late. Gives me the creeps.

  • Adrienne

She looks fabulous!  She hasn’t looked this good in awhile, if ever.  IN!

  • Joy

    In…she looks fantastic

  • Anonymous

Don’t like the shoes but she looks great. IN

  • Lauren Maier

Silly Putty Pumps match her skin color EXACTLY.  It’s like she has pointy-toed hooves.  The dress looks great on her but on the shoes alone OUT.

    • Anonymous

Just spit out my coffee at the phrase “it’s like she has pointy toed hooves.”  Cracked. Me. Up.  xoxo Thanks!

  • MilaXX

Small IN, because I would have preferred a black shoe over that silly putty nonsense. The fact that this look mostly works proves once again she is better at casual looks rather than RC glam.

  • Amanda Brooks

Love it! I’d wear it in a heart beat and I’ll be taking my own makeup cues from this look.

  • Anonymous

In.  I think she looks great.  The hem could be an inch shorter and the shoes are eh, but on the whole it’s an In.

  • Anonymous

In a million times IN!  I hate the shoes, really, but ooooh this dress looks fantabulous on her.

  • Anonymous

In. (Although I’m surprised y’all didn’t mention her jewelry. A necklace? Some bangles? Something?)

  • Anonymous

She usually gets on my last nerve, though I did love her in that movie with Christian Bale and Melissa Leo.  And she’s usually just a bit off on the RC.  But she looks fab here.  Hair and makeup are flawless.  I’ll even forgive her the hideous shoes.  Definitely IN.

  • Anonymous

I think the shoes should be black and the bra straps are a little odd.  Should they be the same color as the bodice?  Or should the bodice be cut higher on the shoulders?  Anyway, it’s an IN.  She looks great.

  • Anonymous

Head turning but the “bra strap” design DOES detract.  I don’t burst blood vessels over such matters, I just think bra straps (real or designed) take the look from classy/sexy to SkankLand.

  • Anonymous

LOVE this. I have no idea why. But it just fits her perfectly and the color is perfect for this movie premier. Also, I’m just super excited for the Muppet Movie. IN!

  • Heather Waddell

In. Cartoony is ok at a Muppet premiere. Also, Miss Piggy walked the red carpet, and you need to do an in/out for her too.

  • Anonymous

I like the bottom half, top half less so. But she still looks great. Love your vocabulary! You should give us one new word a day that we can use to sound really intelligent!

  • Anonymous

I do not understand the choice shoes in here. The black shoes obviously worked much better with the outfit. But I guess this is the best we’ll ever see Amy Adams look, so this is an IN.

  • Anonymous

Love it overall! I think the external darts on the bodice keep it from being boring. Not crazy about the straps. The straps either need to be closer to her skin color, or stand out more. In that weird muted color, they look like a mistake.

  • Anonymous

Like her, hate the dress, particularly the top part.  It’s like a cartoon hooker costume, if Dogpatch had hookers.

  • Anonymous

She looks yummy, hate the shoes (too pointy, awful colour), but this is a definitely IN!

  • Anonymous

IN!  No fits of apoplexy from this corner.

  • Anonymous

In. Isn’t she an itty bitty thing? This makes her look so long and lean. I agree that the straps/off-the-shoulder combo is a little silly looking, but she is  rocking this look for all it is worth. I don’t even mind the beige pumps. I also like her makeup. So glad she has a makeup person who understands that natural-looking need not mean washed out. (Flesh-colored lips creep me out. I will never understand that trend.)

  • Anonymous

I wish she’d worn a different shoe (lurve the model’s shoes with the dress) but the strap doesn’t bother me and everything else is working so IN.

  • Melinda

Don’t love the bra strap or the shoes, but fit and color get an IN from me. Also, am I the only one who loves that they’re using a green carpet for a Muppets premiere?

  • Terence Ng

I just don’t think she’s working the top of the bodice. I wish she took a pic with her arms down to her sides so i could see. Still, it’s not bad in all other regards. IN? Just squeezing through.

  • Anonymous

Nice “50s retro vibe there, but a reluctant IN for the strap detail (might have worked in black) and the length, which should have been hemmed at mid-knee the way it is on the runway model.

  • Cathy S

I’m not crazy about the bodice, but she looks great in it, so she’s In.

  • AWStevens

She looks like she’s about to do the tango in a French nightclub.  A very reluctant IN.

  • Anonymous

Apoplexy: What I suffered when I got an e-mail the other day from Lifetime, informing me that I could rewatch the entire Season 9–EVERY EPISODE!–on my computer.  Egregious: The language I used to reply to the no doubt unmanned IN box.

I really like Amy Adams.  But she’s too voluptuous for that top–it ends up looking like the girls are strapped in with a bandage. The length is a few inches too long.  And those fucking shoes…  Looks great on the model.  Not on Amy.  OUT.

  • Anonymous

Between getting rid of that bow and the fittedness of the skirt, it no longer looks dairy-maid.  IN

  • Anonymous

She looks great, but I’m definitely one of those who is twitching over the top, since it does look like she just couldn’t be bothered with using a strapless bra.

  • Anonymous

I love it…except for the shoes. But that’s a minor quibble.

And, oh, those eyes. She has such gorgeous, sky-blue eyes.

  • Jenna Thomas-McKie

    She’s Totes McGoats adorbs.  IN.

  • Sara Munoz

I don’t know if Amy had a stylist before, but it seems clear that she has one now. Smart move, Amy! Whatever it takes to get your name and face (and body, YOWZA!) back out there.

    Oh, yeah. IN.

  • Susan Crawford

Four-syllable words are why I love T and Lo! Amy looks great in this look. Hair is perfect, make-up subtle and glowing, and even the shoes are OK. A great, big four-syllable IN for Amy!

  • Amanda

Love the dress, hate the shoes and bra straps…Meh…it’s still an IN, but a very close call.

  • Anonymous

IN! She looks fab head-to-toe, not usually the reaction I have to Miss Amy. Well done! Also, I love me some polysyllabic T Lo…word nerdalicious.

  • Anonymous

I love Amy (and I can’t wait for The Muppets!), but I usually think her style needs help.  For her, this is quite good, so I’m giving her an IN.

  • Vickie Lord

Adorable and appropriate for the event. IN

  • Anonymous

She looks Very Nice-Cartoony but Nice.
Except for the shoes. Hate the pointy putty shoes.IN!

  • James Kirk

Out, she looks like someone turned a tube of lipstick upside down.

  • Judy S

I give her an IN, especially on a Muppets red carpet. It could have been a lot worse!

  • Jacqui

Not in love with the strap detail but everything else is great so IN!

  • Anonymous

  • Kristy Whaley

In.  I really like it, and for some reason it seems really Muppet movie appropriate.  I can’t explain that at all.

  • Anonymous

I feel mean as hell saying this, but to me she always looks like a rube in expensive clothes, no matter the fit.

  • Dominique C

The first thing I thought was VISIBLE BRA STRAPS, but apparently they’re part of the dress. Once I got past that, I loved it, so in. I’m not sure about the shoes.

  • Vaniljekjeks

In.  Would have been better with black shoes.

  • Andrea Lane

She looks phenomenal. I’m not sure how I feel about the strap, either, but I’m willing to overlook it because she should really rock this sleek, brightly colored style more often.

More awesome shoes would have been better.

  • Anonymous

Oooo SO close. But no. Out.

  • Anonymous

I just don’t think it fits her in the bust. It’s causing her to have a Christina Hendricks moment.

I like the design of the dress otherwise, but I cannot believe you two are consigning those shoes. Have you become numb to the horror? FOR SHAME.

  • Anonymous

pretty pretty.  i love redheads in red.

  • Anonymous

The length is soooo wrong for her; it gives her teeny, weirdlegs. And I think I’ve decided that anyone who wears silly putty pumps is getting an automatic OUT from now on. So, OUT.

But her hair and makeup are lovely, I will say. I seriously covet her hair.

In! It’s a cartoony movie she’s promoting and the dress works great.

  • Anonymous

J’adore Amy Adams!  She looks so pretty in that close-up picture!  I am not sure about the dress, though.  It fits her very well, but the dress itself is a bit stylized peasant :(
I want to give her an in just for being her and for the fit

  • aimee_parrott

I think she’s IN in spite of the silly putty shoes and the visible straps.

  • Emily Smith

  • Christy Bishop

I think she looks sensational. That’ an ‘in’, if I must say it!

  • Suitcase Gnome

In. I still think those straps look like errant bra straps, though. The bust area is too fussy. :(

  • Anonymous

IN.  She looks fresh and pretty.   And THAT is how to wear long hair, Gwennick Paltrow, just look at that.  I don’t love the strap thingies but other than that IN IN IN.

  • Anonymous

  • Anonymous

I think the exposed bra straps detract from an otherwise interesting neckline.  And I loathe pointy-toed shoes.  They remind me of the Wicked Witch of the West!

  • Aaminah Khan

IN. So, so IN. She is totally built for these retro looks.

  • R. L.

In.  But I agree about the complicated boobery and the silly putty shoes which almost took her into out-territory.

  • Fay Dearing

I think it needed black pumps instead of nude but overall this is a huge IN!

An IN! to everyone associated with the Muppets! (And where’s our In or Out for Miss Piggy please and thank you!)

  • Susan Maguire

    bra straps match the shoes…

  • Anonymous

  • Anonymous

    Gorgeous!  IN!

  • Stefanos Mantyla

I say OUT. It just is not working for me, I really find those bra straps annoying, even when I am not one of those “apoplectic” ones. Her facial expressions are also a turn-off.

  • Anonymous

She looks like a Pokemon ball.

I almost like it, but the top is too needlessly busy.

  • Jessica O’Connell

I think she looks pretty fantastic. It fits, it’s focus-pulling, and her makeup and hair look very pretty. IN.

  • Anonymous

IN!  She’s absolutely gorgeous, and this is a pretty ‘bombshell’ dress that looks great on her.  I wish the straps were white, but that’s the designer’s fault, not hers.

  • Anonymous

IN! She looks a lot better in this type of look than in the more romantic looks she often does.

  • Anonymous

Call me apoplectic.  The only thing worse than a visible bra strap is a billion dollar dress specifically designed to look like it is a visible bra strap.  Other than that, I love it. IN.

  • Claudia Berry

love it, except for the skirt length.

  • Anonymous

In, but I miss the small bow from the runway look that seemed to lighten up the mood

  • Anonymous

    A resounding IN.

  • Anonymous

    A resounding IN.

  • Anonymous

Out. It’s two dresses mashed together and the top is fighting the bottom half. Wrong shoes.

  • Anonymous

Out. It’s two dresses mashed together and the top is fighting the bottom half. Wrong shoes.

  • rynerman

In with the reservation that those shoes are just wrong and the visible strap adds nothing, but she looks quite good and the fit is perfect.

  • Nicole

I think it’s kind of booby for a Muppets event, but she does look great.  IN

  • Anonymous

I don’t like the bustline at all, or the strap detail–it looks a little more obvious than classy. I’d love to see her in that red more often, and I wish she’d kept the bow to soften the look a little.

  • Tom Shea

IN. I love her so very much. And she looks fantastic.

  • Anonymous

Those shoes make her look like she has Barbie rather than the feet of a real person. The dress is sexy as hell, if a little bit camp. This busty girl says, ‘Hell yes.’ to bra straps. It’s better than having the ladies sagging sadly.

  • Now I am The Bee

Love this.  The skirt looks like it’s really an interesting fabric–not just a wool jersey or something.  And I see the “bra straps” are part of the top–not just bra straps.  While I’m getting really sick of nude shoes–if she’d worn any other color here, I think it would have detracted from the minimalist look of this outfit.  So–IN!

  • CQAussie

The bra strap annoyed me after I was impressed with the outfit.  Which just goes to show that visible bra straps ruin EVERY oufit.  However – I will stick with my initial reaction and give this an IN.

  • Anonymous

IN but hate hate hate the shoes.

  • Samuel Joesph Donovan

She was in until I got to the shoes…but I think she’s still probably IN

  • Anonymous

IN.  And I say that despite the bra strap detail.

  • Anonymous

IN!!! An Olive Oyle the new millenium..looks fab on her!!!

  • Kyle Crawford

was she off to stomp grapes with Lucy ?

  • Kate Pearce

If they’d just made the bra strap the same colour as the bodice or even red I would’ve been totally sold, a reluctant IN.

  • Anonymous

Oh, so IN. Her hair and makeup are perfect and she is making that skirt’s tricky length look like no big deal. Also, if ever there was a time to wear silly putty shoes, it’s with a skirt this eye catching. I’m a little meh on the top (it’s pretty close to her skin tone), but the hair and makeup sell it.

  • marlie

    Love it!

  • Aisa Ginger Jake Psenicnik

    her legs look dead

  • Anonymous

  • MandyJane

In, love everything but the shoes.

  • Anonymous

I think she’s IN. There’s no way anyone is going to upstage Miss Piggy so elegant and simple is the smart way to go. The visible bra straps are fine because the top is has such clean lines and the straps aren’t a super-obvious color. It looks neither sloppy nor whorish.  I don’t always think redheads should wear red, but with a neutral top to buffer her red hair from her skirt, it works. Plus, it’s a very flattering skirt for her. The only misstep is the shoes, but who cares? We’re all waiting to see what Miss Piggy is wearing!

  • Anonymous

IN. She looks lovely, put together and sexy.  My complaints are minor.  Shoes are boring.  The bra-strap thing normally doesn’t bother me, but why make a strap LOOK like a  bra strap?  Pointless and silly.  But that’s the designer’s fault, not Amy’s.  She needs a clutch and some more jewelry, IMHO.  None of these ruin the look, though.

  • Anonymous

I actually like this outfit on her, but what Reese Witherspoon is to you, TLo, Amy Adams is to me. I have a reason, stupid though it may be: the always-and-forever hand-on-hip pose that reads, “Red Carpet Posing School Graduate.” I know it’s irrational, but that’s what irrational movie star dislikes are all about.

  • Anonymous

  • Anonymous

IN, for sure. I’ll even forgive the shoe.

  • RMJ12345

    IN, she looks stunning.

  • Anonymous

Oh, but on second look I think the putty pumps are egregious! The shoes on the model look much better with the outfit (sorry, fellers: I know how you get all apoplectic over ankle straps, but they work with this dress, dont’cha think?).

  • Tina

super in! Though I like the muted color that the skirt appears to be on the model better, and it would have gone better with her hair that way.

    Stitching in Circles

  • Julia

The word nerds are the best of the nerds. I think it’s awesome, so IN. Her shoes look especially uncomfortable, though. I wish she’d worn some sassy sandals, but I always wish the starlet had worn something else when they’re wearing nude pumps.

  • Anonymous

Super In! Especially compared to most of her red-carpet appearances.

  • Jamie

    IN – looks great

  • Anonymous

  • Anna Pesicka

I think between the top, straps, and shoes there are too many different nude shades going on.  I’m calling it an OUT.  Cut off the straps and give her a black shoe and I might change my mind.

  • Kara Lang Guminski

I like the idea, and I definitely think that it is appropriate for the opening of a MUPPETS movie (who would wear a gown to that?).  The strap detail kills me, and I wish that the skirt would have been a different color.  It’s a “meh” from me, tending to go with OK.  in-ish.

  • GQueen

    Love it! Totally in!

  • Anna Tree

She looks like Wilma Flintstone, Executive VP of a small Midwestern insurance company. Maybe based in Omaha or Oklahoma? With her coloring the dress is way too juvenile and the straps are tacky, tacky tacky.

  • Anonymous

IN, but I would have liked the hemline to be a bit higher. Nude shoes with red bother me much less than with any other color.

  • Jillian Liszewski

Anyone who loves Dr. Who, clothing, and words is considered pretty swell by me.  And she is definitely IN.

  • Elena

    IN. She looks chic.

  • Anonymous

I feel like the white top with the silly putty shoes just accentuates the fact that her legs/feet look several shades darker than her arms/neck/face. I’m sure stockings may be at play as well, but it looks odd to me.

  • Grace Armstrong

I kind of love this. IN. Is anyone else getting a wiff of Victoria Grayson from this dress? She is always wearing dresses that could pass as full body tourniquets.

  • Anonymous

    she looks great: IN!

I love Amy Adams, she is so pretty.

  • Anonymous

I wouldn’t call those pumps putty, which is nauseating. They’re taupe, as is her hosiery. Not the best choice with red, but it continues the color from the hem detail. He legs and shoes are so neutral, they kind of disappear, featuring the dress better. A little off, but overall I think she looks fine. Hair, makeup, and smile are all gorgeous.
    So IN.

  • Ally Monge

    LOVE it. IN

  • JillK

My first thought was “Secretary Slut.” But upon further review, I actually love it. I love the fact that she got rid of that silly, childish bow at the waist. I love that she lengthened the skirt, even though I don’t usually care for skirts that hit mid-calf – it works here. I think the bust-line is unique and interesting without being over-the-top. Her hair and makeup are perfection. And she hit the right note with minimal accessories.

  • Daisy James

I don’t mind that the straps look like bra straps, but I do mind that they look more structural than intentional, and spoil the otherwise pretty line of the bodice. But she looks cute and happy and I love her hair, so it’s an overly-generous IN for me.

  • Sammi M

IN! She looks sexy, which I don’t often use to describe her. I actually don’t like the putty shoes, and I thought the bow on the original was a nice little detail that I wish she’d kept, but those are small errors that I can overlook. Go word nerds!

  • Heather McIlrath

i’m sorry, but her legs are the weirdest color. and the shoes aren’t helping anything! OUT

  • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

OUT.  she was so close.  The tan straps and the putty shoes killed it.  Cut the straps and throw on at least some black pumps and its a completely different look.

  • L.

IN!  Especially from the neck up.  She looks pretty and not over-done at all!

  • Marissa

IN. I think it looks really cute. I would like to see it with different shoes, and I liked the bow on the runway look, but the dress fits her beautifully.   IN

  • Stella Zawistowski

I think it’s a sleek look, but if it’s a premiere of the Muppets, why not pick something a little more playful and fun? Given the occasion, I’m going to have to say OUT.

  • katie

I think the bust is interesting and I love the red. IN.

  • Anonymous

Wow. In. I don’t know if anyone has said this before, but it’s kind of Ann Margret at the Muppets!

  • Sara__B

It fits her like a glove — a glove that’s one size too small — and the shoes are exactly the color of her legs. I wish she wasn’t busting out all over at a Muppet movie premier, but she looks very pretty while she’s doing it, so IN anyway.

  • Anonymous

IN from me. Great fit, great hair.

  • Delysia LaFosse

It’s a beautiful fit and as you guys say, it’s appropriately ‘cartoony’ for a Muppets premiere. I agree that the bust is overworked, but don’t mind the strap. I prefer the belt as it on the runway, with the visible knot, and wish the dress hit her where it does the model, because it’s just a little bit too long (the angle isn’t helping). And I hate the metallic beige nail polish. But overall, she looks adorable. IN!

    • Anonymous

Good eye! Agree with you about the belt and skirt length. I was having trouble identifying what was different that wasnt working, and you got it, thanks.  (IN)

  • Anonymous

In.  I get (and appreciate) the cartoon-y comment, but I like that it looks different from the boring gowns everyone else is wearing.  It suits her very well.

  • kim i

    damn.  pretty fabulous, actually.

  • Noelle Haland

IN. I’d like the skirt at the knee better and I really hate the color of the pumps, but otherwise she wears it better than the runway model and she looks terrific.

  • Angie O’Brien

I love it. The shoe would’ve been SO MUCH better in a black though.

  • Anonymous

Interesting…. in one sentence you decry the “cartoonish simplicity” of the outfit and in the very next you decry the “overly complicated” bust and strap detail.  Make up your mind boys….. Quit equivocating  (oh, it’s a big word day!)

  • Anonymous

IN!  Love the dress and love her in it but would have preferred black shoes.

  • Claudia Gilbert

I’m probably in the minority, but its not working for me.  Out.  Plus, I love word nerds.  Yo.

  • Anonymous

I’m thinking that’s a lot of boobage for a muppet movie premier. But otherwise, she looks beautiful.

  • Anonymous

    IN. Duh.

  • Nora Mulllin

IN. I really wish there were different shoes (read: classic black pumps) and a slightly brighter lipstick, though. You can look natural without looking like your lips are the same color as the rest of your face.

  • Anonymous

Really suits her body and makes me wonder if she’s taken up a new exercise routine or something – whenever a dress makes you wonder that, it’s an in.

  • Anonymous

She looks great – IN!  But I want to tell her “dear, you’r bra straps are showing”.  Why couldn’t they just make the starps the same color as the top?

  • Anonymous

Don’t mind the strap detail – and the shoes work because they pick up the strap detail nicely.  The bust seems too low, but it’s a minor quibble.  IN.

  • Anonymous

I love Amy, but the dress loses some of its chicness on her. It’s too long and her hair breaks up the symmetry of the neckline and the bow was changed. The shoes don’t help but they’re not the main problem.

  • Sorana Tarmu

IN, but mostly because I am a huge Roland Mouret fan and this look suits her. That bra strap drives me nuts!

  • Sarah Veenstra

We think she looks fabulous. THAT is the way for a redhead to wear Red. IN.

  • Anonymous

I’m calling this an IN.  The dress is chic and fresh and clean.  I’m forgiving the pumps because they have pointy toes, are not platforms, and are more ‘tan’ than ‘silly putty.  Amy, honey, this was a close call from me!!!!

  • Anonymous

    So very IN

  • Megan Patterson

In, but those shoes are definitely not the shoes.

  • Catherine Rhodes

    OUT. Big out.

  • Anonymous

In. It’s a litle office-y at first glance, but she looks hot and yet still appropriate for the Muppets. You go girl.

  • Anonymous

Those shoes are really scaring me, and look at what it’s making her feet do! So not good looking.

The dress, I like, but the shoes ruin the whole thing for me. OUT

  • Fifi LaRoux

I like the runway version with the bow better. I like the dress, but I feel like it makes her a sexy secretary for an evil genius in a superhero movie.

  • Anonymous

In! I think this is the best she’s looked in ages. I wouldn’t think I’d like this dress, but on Amy I kind of love it. I also think her hair and makeup look pretty and fresh, and the shoes work because they kind of tie in with the beige-ish colored straps.

  • Liana Brooks

In – She looks great! It isn’t standard RC wear but it’s not twee and it works.

  • Anonymous

It’s fine from the waist down. I hate the off-white color, hate that strip across her chest, hate the straps, and hate the inverted darts. On the other hand, her makeup and hair look good.

  • Anonymous

IN, although I agree with all your negatives. Off white is maybe not her best color, the “neckline” is too fussy, and I dislike the shoe color choice. What was wrong with black?

  • Deborah

In. I think she looks lovely. Even the bizarre bra strap thingies are kind of growing on me because I think they make her rack look absolutely lovely.

  • Anonymous

IN. But… Normally I’m not really picky about the silly putty shoes, but I hate them here. The rest of it is freaking adorable.

  • Anonymous

Love it–in. The red color is fabulous.

  • Anonymous

IN though the color of the straps bugs. Best she’s looked in ages.

  • hilonwheels

IN. I think she looks so pretty! Would absolutely LOVE a version of this dress for myself. You know: the same style, elements, and color theme, but that wouldn’t put me into debt for forever to eternity.

  • mcglory13

In, she looks great. I kind of miss the bow, but I know some folks here think bows are too twee on grown women.

  • Anonymous

The shape is lovely, but the color of the top combined with the little darts make it look like a muslin being fitted, not a finished garment. Tsk tsk, do not like.

  • Merneith

She looks good but I don’t like the dress over all. In – but she’s doing all the work here.

  • Anonymous

    its an IN for me!

  • Anonymous

    draped ace bandage.

  • Anonymous

IN. The skirt is a lovely colour and she looks great.

  • Anonymous

It’s not a home run, but I don’t hate it.  IN.

  • WhiteMage

eh. i thought she had a bra strap issue; i can’t believe that’s part of the design. ew.

  • Alexander Peterhans

It’s a bit too Mae West for me.. OUT.

  • Anonymous

    deLISH! IN.

  • Barbara Potter

Hate the shoes, but I also hate the shoes the model is wearing.  Otherwise, I think she looks fantastic.  In!

  • Anonymous

she looks way better these days. usually i think she looks like a kindergarten teacher or a receptionist or– on & on. great dress. shoes could have been better, but the dress is good enough to render them inconsequential.

  • tom markiewicz

i think as a look, it’s IN, but as a look for her movie premiere in L.A., it’s got to be out. it’s just not a premiere look.

  • Anonymous

She looks fabulous head to toe! I hate visible bra straps, but since this is part of the top I’m fine with it. Hair and makeup are flawless. Don’t even mind the mermaid thing since her hair looks so soft and feminine. Big IN.

  • Anonymous

I love it, she looks gorgeous! Wish she’d picked different shoes but that’s a small quibble when one looks that fabulous. Abolutely IN!

  • Emily

Out.  I like the look better on the model, but it doesn’t look right on Amy.  I think it’s the top that ruins it for me.  Black shoes would have been much better too.

  • Lisa

Out because I unreasonably hate her, and because the dress is too tight, and because she just looks like a slutty secretary.

  • Ella Hawthorne

IN. It’s not amazing, but she still looks good. Hate the shows though. They do not work (and I don’t know where they ever would)

  • VFL Miss Helenes

I like it, but it remimds me of a Poke-ball.

  • Christopher

    cute,  in

  • Anonymous

She’s cute and stylish here: IN

  • Mags

I like everything from the waist down. The blouse is awful, and so are the bra-strap things. But everything else looks good. I love that she didn’t wear her hair up, too. IN.

  • Joyce VG

    I like it! IN.

  • Joyce VG

    I like it! IN.

  • Bibiana Beardsley

I think it looks like something Jessica Rabbit would wear, which is totally appropriate for the Muppets premiere.

  • Bibiana Beardsley

I think it looks like something Jessica Rabbit would wear, which is totally appropriate for the Muppets premiere.

  • Anonymous

So fresh and so clean.  IN.

  • Anonymous

The fake bra straps make me all twitchy, but it’s still an IN.

  • Sabina Kallstrom

    Fabulous from the ankles up.

  • Greg Polansky

    IN. I like its lines

  • Hannah Penfield

  • Anonymous

Little much for The Muppets – no matter how Miss Piggy was dressed that evening! BTW, we will see an In/Out on her, right???

  • Mary McClelland

Hmmm… I Don’t think it’s her dress. Too fashion-y and too complicated for lil miss wholesome. The shoes are distractingly bad and a cop-out. I guess I’m going OUT after all.

  • Anonymous

I love it.  So many times she’s in unfitted, light colored things.  I think this is great.

  • Brendan Foehr

She should have kept the bow, shoes almost ruin it, but ultimately love it. In.

  • Praggya R. Barretto

In. (What gives with the firm, pressed lips faux smile, Amy?)

  • elzatelzabelz

In- kind of a boring dress, but it fits her like a glove and her hair and face are so pretty!

  • Carrie L. Boram

OMG – love it. The skirt had me at the little putty piping on the hem. So pretty. Finally!

  • Anonymous

  • Ben

the only thing i hate is the shoes. they make her feet disappear.

  • Emily Roach

    Easily an IN.

  • Rachel Council

It’s cute. She looks like a human Pokeball, and I don’t like that strap detail, but IN.

  • Kate Lorenz

The shoes and the straps bother me a tad, but not nearly as much as those dark nylons!  Ugh!  I can’t believe no one is mentioning them.  My eyes are twitching.

  • Anonymous

I hate pointy toe shoes and the whole thing looks too tight. OUT!

  • Anonymous

I likely, but it’s a bit too long andI liked the black shoes better, but in.

  • Anonymous

I like it, save the straps.  I especially like that she looks like she feels good and hot and sleek and all those good things.  And I also like TLo’s wordy-nerdness.  XO!

  • Becky Bartley

Wish the straps were a cm wider and the same color as the top, and those shoes just don’t do it for me. I don’t love that lip color either. I don’t know what it is, but it throws off the rest of her makeup. Other than those minor details. I really like this on her – IN

  • Micaela Cannon

Why oh why is her leg tone matched EXACTLY to her shoe? Meanwhile the rest of her skin looks completely normal. it’s weirding me out. OUT OUT OUT.

  • Shawn Hill

Her hair and makeup are great, but I like her better in blue. OUT!

  • Chrissy Barney

Yay for more word nerds! The English language is far too fabulous to not play around with, in my opinion. About Amy: totally IN. The kind of retro-sexy cartoonishness completely works, considering the movie she’s hawking. I could really see Miss Piggy in a smaller version, and hey, that’s the best kind of criteria for dressing for your Muppets red carpet premiere, isn’t it?

  • Brittany

    In, she looks so good!

  • Brian Jardine

Gonna give it an IN, despite the strap detail which is making my eyes twitch nervously.

  • MandyM

I love her and I want to love this but I hate the bra straps and the top screams origami. Still, it’s a pretty look overall so she gets a weak in from me.

  • Samantha Irene

I really like it – she looks GREAT- and the cartoonish-ness of it kinda works for the Muppets thing. IN

  • Anonymous

I like it (and I like the length!).  But in those first two pictures she looks like she’s about to fire someone’s ass.  Human Resources Manager indeed.

  • Anonymous

    In, cute as a bug.

  • Andrea

  • Anonymous

An update on Kathryn Turner in Body Heat – IN

  • Ellie Taylor

Out. The colors are definitely not suiting her warm clear complexion. It washes her face out completely. On another actress, it would be almost stunning.

  • Erin Nice

    In. Very chic.

  • M M

    too costumey and cartoony. OUT.

  • Jessica Charlotte Siewierkiewi

I’m in a grey zone here. The dress looks good except for those ugly wannabe bra-straps look-a-likes.

  • Mary Gallagher

    IN! Despite those shoes.

  • Anonymous

Out. Why not just wear the spanx and leave the dress at home for goodness’ sake.
