WERQ: Joely Richardson in Marchesa

Posted on October 27, 2011

You guys, Joely Richardson looks so fabulous here that there are FLAMES SHOOTING OUT THE SIDE OF HER HEAD:

Joely Richardson in MarchesaJoely Richardson attends the premiere of “Anonymous” during the 55th Annual Times BFI London Film Festival in a Marchesa gown.

She is serving up some Redgrave realness right there, managing to look both gorgeous and like a grande dame at the same time. Longtime minions know that we weren’t crazy about black lace before it became a thing again and now we’re REALLY not crazy about it, but sometimes old school glamour of the lacey variety is just what the style doctor ordered. You WERQ that “First Lady of the Theater” drag, girl!

Re: the flame shooting out the side of her head, BWAH!
Re: the WERQ – I grudgingly agree with TLo on this one.  The relatively low-key styling is making the look.

gorgeous. i wish i had somewhere to wear that dress.

    • Leonardo Alves

      Me too! hahaha

  • Anonymous

Real, true elegance. Something not seen very often these days.

  • http://twitter.com/iJenmac Jennifer McClory

Marchesa + black lace SHOULD equal hate, but I love this.  Is this bizarro world, or what?

  • Sam Corbett

I wish she was from the “sweet, great lady” line (Lynn) rather than the “bat-sh!t evil b!tch” line, but she still looks fabulous. WERQ!

      How true, Sam. How true.

Forgot to add: makes me miss Natasha….

      • Anonymous

that was my first thought: Natasha, and how sad that she is gone.

  • Lauren Maier

    AHHHHH!  Fabulous!  😀

  • Judy_J

Now THIS is how you do black lace.  Love it!

  • Nolan Chung

yes. i did it. i hated her so much, that, that flames… flames. on the sides of my head. heav- heaving breaths…

I would have loved a simple diamond drop necklace, something not showy, but there is so much space between her chin and the dress.

Meh.  Too much tulle for my liking, but overall she looks great.

  • Anonymous

She looks stellar. This makes me miss her sister Natasha, who was the picture of fabulosity.

  • Libby Rhoman

Flames! On the side of my face!
This would be a perfect dress on Mrs. White, actually…

And yes, she does look smashing.

  • CQAussie

    Love this, she looks wonderful.

She has just the right stature to pull off the confectionery that is Marchesa. Lovely.

  • Anonymous

I often have flames shooting out of the side of my head.  But that’s for an entirely different reason…..

  • Anonymous

How jealous am I of her swan-like neck. This gal can probably pull off anything that demands elegance.

  • Anonymous

    WERQ indeed

  • Anonymous

WOW! Old school Hollywood glamour – where have you been hiding!

  • Anonymous

Jeez, she’s making me like lace and Marchesa. Lovely.  That bodice is divine.

  • Sara__B

I love glamour and elegance on the red carpet, even when it’s wrapped in lace. (She’s only 46; isn’t she too young for the “grande dame” moniker?)

  • Anonymous

It is beautiful.  She and Rosie are setting the bar high for movie premieres.

  • Anna Maria Diamanti

Her eye makeup is perfection. In almost all photos the very first thing I was drawn to were her eyes. That’s a pretty stunning achievement when she’s wearing such a showy gown.

  • Anonymous

Tulle and lace!  And the dress looks great.

I am struck by the extreme difference from the floral dress we saw earlier today – both were on red carpets for premieres

  • Anonymous

lol at the flames shooting out of her head!

she truly is pulling of this “grande dame” look…too mature a term for a woman her age though.

Wow! Of course, Vanessa looks better at 74 than I ever did. Gotta love those Redgrave genes!

  • Anonymous

Black lace and buckets of tulle?? Methinks T&LO have started the hard stuff a bit early this afternoon in anticipation of the PR Finale. Rip the tulle off the bottom half and it would be great.

  • http://twitter.com/herong Heron

Now THAT is who should and how to wear Marchesa.

  • Anonymous

She does look pretty fabulous. WERQ!!

  • Anonymous

She looks fabulous in spite of the dress.

  • Anonymous

THAT is the way you do a transparent skirt!

  • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

I saw this when you posted it on Twitter. She looks AMAZING! Yes, it’s black lace, but it’s done well. Elegant. Beautiful. Stunning. So many superlatives!

  • Allison Woods

Yep. Go get that thing, girl!

Tho I have to say I get a little misty–loved her sis Tash, who met an early demise a couple of ski seasons ago. :(

    • Presumptuous Insect

Oh, Natasha was wonderful in Handmaid’s Tale.  She was awesome.

  • Anonymous

she looks like she stole something out of HBC’s closet. No. Out.

  • Anonymous

    Wow. Yes!

This is the highest and best use of two-skirt syndrome. Not to have two hemlines at once, but rather two silhouettes at once. She gets to work the old-school giant skirt while still looking modern.

  • Anonymous

She looks lovely–I’ve always found her so beautiful, and it’s wonderful to see her looking incredibly classy on the RC.  Her hair is a bit too platinum–looks unnatural–but the rest is fabulous.

    • Anonymous

Exactly. She is far too blonde for her skin tone…

  • Anonymous

Her make-up and hair are stunning but I wish Marchesa would just go away

    • margaret meyers

she’s a little too blond for me.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Pizza darling. Try some, you’ll like it.

  • Anonymous

she’s my age. I’m going to go put my head in the oven.

  • Anonymous

I’m surprised how much I like this. It helps that she’s tall and slender. This wouldn’t have the same impact on a shorter (or less fierce) woman.

  • margaret meyers

    Those Redgrave women are so f i e r c e,

  • Anonymous

The earrings ruin it for me but suprisingly not the dress.

  • Anonymous

Beautiful.  She and her sister both such gorgeous specimens. The dress is sensational.  Love the bodice.  Hair and earrings too.

  • Anonymous

I never recognized Princess Anna while she was in Nip/Tuck.  But it was the first thing I saw here.

  • Anonymous

One of her eyes is significantly larger than the other.  I can’t stop looking at it.  It freaks me out, but I can’t look away.  What is she wearing again?  Oh no!  the EYE! the EYE!

  • Anonymous

It was like there were flames…flames…on the side of my face…breathing, heav-…heaving breaths…

And that is indeed a fabulous gown.

  • Anonymous

I LOVE that lace.  Marchesa is really bringing it this season.  I was getting tired of their same old look, but this year if fabulous.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61101261 Becca Robson

But but but..it’s Marchesa! You guys despise Marchesa! :)

  • Jennifer Coleman

Her angular, aggressively regal beauty puts a damper on the Marchesa froth. You barely notice it. The headless model shot of it looks completely meh.

  • Emily Faber

i love you guys, but i would appreciate a new comment once in a while other than “you werq that _____ shit, girl!”
it’s just making all of the posts blend together

    • Anonymous

      Write your own blog.

      • Emily Faber

no, i like reading tlo’s opinions and i’ve followed them from the beginning, but i just want to read SOME other line at the end. they use it in almost every werq post recently and i miss their originality! not saying they aren’t still original, but it’s so repetitive. it’s like if you had a favorite designer and then the designer put out three collections that were exactly the same. you’d still like the collections, but you’d also wish for something new with the next one!

  • Anonymous

It’s nice to see some “done” hair, too.

WOW! Love the flaming hair picture.
The dress looks sensational on Ms. Richardson.
    She conquers the Lace.

  • MilaXX

Very pretty. Loving the old school glamour.

  • Susan Crawford

Yes to the WERQ! She is rocking that look, and upholding that Redgrave tradition. Definitely la grande dame to the max.

  • http://profiles.google.com/clarinetpower Ronica Skarphol Brownson

I think she might be the Princess of Fucking Fantastica.

  • http://www.facebook.com/shawn.eric.hill Shawn Hill

    So awesome!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catherine-Rhodes/602850414 Catherine Rhodes

    The hair is really beautiful.

  • oohsparkley!

    Werq it Classy Lady!

  • Anonymous

That’s how you do black lace.

  • Anonymous

Wow. Lovely. At first I thought that flame was a really tacky fascinator. I’m so glad it wasn’t.

Drag is right! LORD that’s a lot of airbrush makeup on that woman! I am so over the lace.

  • Anonymous

Beautiful dress…but what’s with the earrings?  She could do better.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IHWCJIMARF4OOW6PQZQS3RFOOA JillK

    She looks breathtaking.
