Iman requests that you bow down.

Iman in Rachel Zoe Spring 2012

Did we tell you we met Iman during Fashion Week and shook her hand? Because we did. And we know we’ve mentioned it about 5 times since. We suspect that our headstones will go on and on about the vast multimedia empire we built based solely on our opinions, and then it’ll end with, “And they shook Iman’s hand once!”

Anyway, such is the power of Iman that she can take a relatively simple gown in a neutral color, pair it with some low-heeled shoes (because Iman doesn’t feel the need to wear something uncomfortable just to please you), slap on some bangles, a wig, and a metallic jacket, and hit Beverly Hills looking like the diva she is. You WERQ that “I’m here to pick up my award” shit, girl! Snaps up!

Stunning!  (Although I do like the print fabric version of that dress better.)

And if you’ve mentioned that you shook her hand 5 times already, I totally missed it. I would probably turn into a babbling moron when faced with such fabulousity.

    • Anonymous

You’d turn into a babbling moron, and I’d turn into a blithering idiot. What a pair we’d be in front Iman the Great…

      • Anonymous

I’ve actually had the good fortune to meet and briefly chat with Stevie Wonder and Elvis Costello, and I’m proud to say I did not actually shit myself in front of them. Nor did I giggle or sweat profusely…so maybe I could pull it together for Iman, if it were for about 30 seconds….then all bets would be off.

    • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I think most of us would turn into babbling morons in the presence of Iman. And she’s probably used to it.

  • http://twitter.com/jaythenerdkid Aaminah Khan

    DAMN, girl!

Dibs on being her when I grow up.

  • Kyle Crawford

sigh……. over sexed MOB. Takes real talent to make a true goddess look like she could not find her spanx.

    • Anonymous

WHAT on her body looks under-Spanxed? She looks flawless. Probably because she IS flawless. And is there really such a thing as “over-sexed?”

      • Anonymous

        Seriously – I see nothing “under-Spanxed” here.

And how does a high-necked, tie-front dress with only a slit through which to see skin qualify as “over-sexed”???

  • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

Iman, you are beautiful and angular, and if you were a gas, you’d be inert.

Now is the time on Sprockets where we dance.

    • Anonymous

This is the best thing I’ve read all day. I love you.

    • Anonymous

      You made my day. :D

Touch my monkey! Touch him! Liebe meine abschminke!

For that comment, I touch your monkey.

      God, I love you people!

Iman always looks gorgeous (even when I’ve seen her shlumping around in my neighborhood, treading the same sidewalk as us mere mortals), but I would have rather seen her in the version of the dress the model is wearing.

    • Anonymous

I prefer the model’s version as well. But I will still gladly bow down.

  • Anonymous

I HATE HATE HATE pussy bows.

Even Iman can’t make it work for me.

    • Anonymous

Feel the same way.  And I don’t like the wig.

  • Sobaika Mirza

She could show up in a burlap sack and look striking. You can’t say that about most models (they have sort of a ‘plain’ look that allows them to be chameleons when styled) but Iman is truly beautiful.

  • Anonymous

I like the other version of the gown better, but she does look glorious in this. I also like that she chose to not wear high heels. I wish more women in fashion would dress for themselves and their beauty and comfort, and not wear shoes that they might get killed from wearing!
    Iman, definition of fabulous!

    • Anonymous

It’s especially ridiculous when models put on the danger shoes. They’re already like six feet tall!

  • http://twitter.com/NC_Meg Megan

She looks gorgeous, as usual. I’m really impressed by RZ’s line, too.

“because Iman doesn’t feel the need to wear something uncomfortable just to please you”

Not to mention Iman is taller without heels than I could ever dream of being WITH heels. I’d have to borrow Lady Gaga’s shoes to come close to her height.

    • Anonymous

      I’d need a step ladder :-)

  • Anonymous

The print version of the dress is better, I agree with everyone else. Although Iman always looks amazing, the dress looks more like a nightie when it’s in that pink color.

  • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

Hmm. I like the original color SO much better….

  • Anonymous

No, if she had worn the print dress…

I hate that pasty, neutral, icky non-color just So Much that even the fabulous Iman isn’t werqing it for moi.

    • Sobaika Mirza

I love that neutral for women of color. I think it only looks pasty when those of the Caucasian Persuasion wear it.

She would look great in the print though.

      • Anonymous

I agree with you, but I just has the unnatural hate for the color =(

        • Anonymous

Ain’t it great? It’s from Buffy.

          • Sobaika Mirza

IT IS! I love that you go the reference!

  • MilaXX

    Bow down indeed!

  • Anonymous

She’s beautiful, that ace-bandage color dress is not.

I think it’s unfair to give Iman a WERQ on anything. She was born WERQing; it’s part of her genetic program. She breathes WERQ. The designation should be reserved for mere mortals who really have to work at WERQ.

    • Anonymous

Maybe there should be a new set of classification. first WERQing it, than you have IMANing it

  • Anonymous

Well, its Iman and she’s a goddess and she never looks bad, but I have quibbles. First, the hair. Too light. That sandy dark blonde does not flatter her skin tone. The dress. Too much shit going on; tied around the waist and then tied high on the neck, with that huge effing bow and the ends hanging down the front like that. I don’t know, it’s just a messy looking dress to me.

    • Anonymous

      Agree with all you comments

  • Anonymous

Well, she is Iman. The color is kind of blah, but if anyone can overcome that, Iman can. I like the runway version better. I really hate the neck bow. I went through that the last time around, and I wasn’t crazy about it then, either. It hasn’t gotten better. The woman’s version of a tie, I guess, which would be all right if we could give up the heels, waxing, makeup, and everything else men don’t have to do.

  • Terence Ng

She would have looked better int he original print, I think, but that’s like saying she could have gotten a 105% instead of just 100%.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=49702581 Susan Bullard Mayer

    Fierce!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

There will probably be something wrong with the world the day Iman looks like people should not bow down to her.

  • Anonymous

    Goddess.

  • Anonymous

As the housekeeper on Family Guy would say, “MmmmmNo.”

Hate the dress in that color, hate the low-heeled shoes (look how inert and lifeless they make her leg look in that first pic), and while her hair is lovely on its own merits, that cocker-spaniel style does this look no favors by causing the ends to just sort of blend in with the jacket/cape.

She’s still fabulous, so I will nod my head in deference, but request to bown down denied.

    • Anonymous

She would choose it because she is Iman and she dares you to mention something as silly as a scar from knee surgery!  ;-)

  • Anonymous

Really?  She looks like she’s wearing a surgical neckbrace. Far too much going on round the neck – bow, jacket, hair etc. At the very least she should pull her hair up a little as the model has.

And I think she shook your hands so you wouldn’t give her unfavourable reviews any more…

  • Anonymous

I think she looks terrible. That dress is such an unflattering color AND it’s boring, the jackety thing is tacky and her hair is completely weird. I thought for a second it was Jennifer Coolidge doing her Best in Show floozie thing.

  • Anonymous

She does indeed look fab, but agree with everyone else that the print and metallic gown would have looked great on her.  The dark skinned model is working that shit!

Though silly putty colored clothing should come with a tag that says “Only non-white girls need apply for purchase of this garment” because the color only works for me on dark-skinned women.

  • Anonymous

I like the print better, but yeah, she’s Iman.  Do I see evidence of knee surgery?  Good for her for wearing low shoes.  And that model, by the way?  How gorgeous is she!

    • Anonymous

      I also prefer the print.

  • Anonymous

She looks like the amazing diva she is.  Love her and this look.

Your comment about her heel height tickled me.  Is that a new scar on her knee?  If so I also applaud her again for being practical about her shoes and not at all self confident about putting her knee out there. She shouldn’t be cuz she’s Iman, lol.  And no one else should be either because we are all wonderfully imperfect people.

  • Anonymous

Not a fan of the wig, the rest looks nice, but nothing spectacular to fawn all over.  The color is drab, but works on her.  The sparkly jacket borders on Vegas tacky.

  • http://twitter.com/yankeefoxtrot Alex McGeagh

Mrs. David Bowie is simply fabulous.

Do away with that pussy bow, though!

  • Anonymous

Iman could wear a trash bag and look fierce. Not loving the bow at the neck – too 1980′s secretarial. And the jacket looks like she got chilly and borrowed Bowie’s suit jacket. A fail on anyone else.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catherine-Rhodes/602850414 Catherine Rhodes

Love it. What takes the long pussy bow dress out of sister-wife territory is the silky fabric and the thigh-high slit. Sure, Iman is rocking the look, but kudos for good design, Rachel.

  • Anonymous

Somehow she can WERQ the long-hair look in her mid-50s without looking like mutton dressed as lamb. Why can’t SJP and others who are 10 years younger?

    • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I know, right? The thing is (and I know I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know), Iman possesses something rare that SJP and others just do not have. It’s indefinable, I think. It’s beyond elegance, style, beauty, perhaps even confidence.

Ooh, screw it. She’s from another plant.

  • Now I am The Bee

I love this.  Who else but Iman could wear a gown with a high-neck pussy bow and make it look FAB.  I also love the color on her.  It’s one that I could never wear, as I am of the pale Scandi-persuasion, but on her it’s great.
    Love. Her.

  • Anonymous

Iman does not REQUEST that we mere mortals bow down, Iman KNOWS we will bow down if we know what’s good for us.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Never going to be a fan of that pussy bow….but at least she is WERQing that shit!

  • Anonymous

amazingly, I HATE the dress – shapeless, flesh-toned, pussy bow. But Iman looks AMAZING. How does she do it??

  • Lori

No to the color of the dress, the bow, the hair, the blush. Of course she still looks like a goddess.

  • Anonymous

At the risk of being struck down by a lightning bolt, I do not like the color of the dress, the lack of a pattern in the fabric or the neck bow.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

I don’t know if it’s just the high neckline, but I don’t think this is particularly flattering to her on top.  It makes her look like she needs more support.  Of course, even with that criticism, she still looks amazing.

  • Anonymous

Blah blah blah Iman blah blah goddess-like blah blah perfect in anything blah.

This color is HIDEOUS on her. Reminds me of a Band-Aid.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

    Love huh.

  • Anonymous

    bowing down.

  • Anonymous

While she looks beautiful, I’m surprised that TLo didn’t deduct WERQ points for her almost identical re-creation of the runway look.  The sleeveless-jacket styling is silly to me, in both instances.  Shouldn’t a goddess be rocking an actual cape or something?

  • Anonymous

    Stunning!
Is that really a wig?! What does her natural hair look like?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=513945580 Megan Patterson

If I shook Iman’s hand (or even was like, in the same room as her once) that would totally go on my headstone too.

  • Anonymous

Your postings absolutely make my day.

  • Anonymous

    Love it – very ’70s.

  • Anonymous

I for one, am bowing down.  WERQ with snaps and a head roll or whatever you do with your head.

Note how much her hair looks like the hair of the teenagers in one of yesterday’s posts.  I guess the center part/hippy mess has officially taken over.  On her it’s great because she is Iman and you will worship her, you fools!

P.S. I don’t care how many times you mention that you shook her hand.  I didn’t see it before but may have missed some posts (bending over for my spanking now).

  • Anonymous

Not werqing for me.  The original fabric is lovelier.  This boring neutral, coupled with the high collar and bow, looks very secretarial, despite the slit up to her hoo-ha.

  • Anonymous

I agree that the original print dress is striking, but I think that the color Iman has worn is a better match for her coloring. I think she’s shown good judgement in selecting a shade that is farther away from her own skin tone and which complements her skin.

  • Anonymous

Such fabulosity! Not crazy about the color, but no way I’m telling her that.

  • Anonymous

WERQ?   Really?  I hate this look.  I hate the color of the dress and I really hate the bow at the neck.  This hair is horrible.  I looks like it would go on a mannequin at Forever 21.  UGH.

  • Anonymous

The print is gorgeous, but she’s rocking the neutral too.  I so miss PR Canada – it was AWESOME.

  • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I actually don’t like the dress Iman is wearing. The print is much better, and would look incredible on her. I hate the bow, and I’m having a hard time getting past it. I guess if anyone can make this dress work, it’s her. But I’m not loving what’s going on here, other than what’s going on with Iman herself.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CIPKMOXHLA5KG34HMH55OXHCVM Angel H.

The air must be extremely dry to make Iman, of all people, look so ashy.

  • Anonymous

    Goddess.

  • Anonymous

Did she have a total knee replacement recently? Sure looks like a TKA scar on her Left knee…would explain the low heeled shoes….

  • Anonymous

Um…isn’t using WERQ and Iman in the same sentence redundant? seriously.

    srq

  • Anonymous

Her hair and make up look like a drag queen to me. I like the print version better. She is not a WERQ to me. Simply a ho hum

  • Anonymous

It’s Iman, what can I say.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_5LU5C262WB3Z5F4WZ6QGKXLNLE JaneM

I don’t know, guys.  She looks fine and all, but she needs to put that leg back in.  What is that, a knee surgery scar there?   She’s ageless until you get a load of that leg.

I worked with Iman once in a terrible movie. We were in the make up trailer together and she was very lovely and gracious. And Iman.

    • Rand Ortega

“I worked with Iman once in a terrible movie.”
      Exit to Eden?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_5LU5C262WB3Z5F4WZ6QGKXLNLE JaneM

        yes.

  • Rand Ortega

Scars are sexy. Padma’s makes me swoon. Love that the goddess Iman is so self assured she still flaunts that gorgeous gam.

  • Anonymous

A perfect example of the model wearing the dress, not the dress wearing the model.

On anyone else that would be a totally mumsy rag. Iman turns it into a holy relic. She is amazing.

  • Anonymous

I… really don’t like this.  It seems secretary on top and party girl on the bottom.  Maybe if the bow were tied back as on the model…?  Don’t get me wrong, it’s Iman and she looks amazing, but this seems more like a “because I can” outfit rather than a really gorgeous one.

  • http://twitter.com/nicolahearts nicole seligman

gorg, but her hair and cheek make-up sort of match the gown in an odd way.

  • Anonymous

Maybe it’s already been said, biut Iman does not request, she commands, and no one can deny her.  If I got to shake her hand I’d be posting it daily for a year.  You guys are very subdued about it.

  • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

I saw this and thought “only Iman could pull off that dress in that color.”  And when I scrolled down and saw the original print, I realized that she was doing humanity a favor by wearing the lower key version.  If she had worn the metallic version, Beverly Hills would be a crater and no photographers would have survived to take the pictures, much less disperse them.  Her fabulousness would have been the end of the Golden Triangle.

Thank you Iman, I bow down, humbled by your greatness.

  • Anonymous

Just wanted to report a typo here:

headline reads both WERQ and IMAN, and I’m pretty sure those terms mean the same thing.

  • Anonymous

Scientists tried to create an artificial being to duplicate IMAN’S  fierceness. The best they could do was Chanel Iman

***did you see what I did there***

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DJQMGJU7MZMBVLSD4GUTPJEPD4 murt

I love Iman but I hate her wig here — this would look awesome with shorter hair or an up-do.
