Versace for H&M Collection

Posted on October 12, 2011

We’ve been eagerly waiting for this one to see how it was going to shake out. This is just a sneak peek at the line, but it’s got our interest piqued.

Press Release, take it away:

“H&M is proud to announce that its fall 2011 designer collaboration will be with one of the world’s most legendary fashion brands, Versace. Designed by its creative director Donatella Versace, the exclusive collection will recall the vibrant heritage of the brand, complete with leather, prints, color, and exuberance in exclusive materials at fantastic H&M prices. The collection will include lines for both women and men and selected pieces for the home. The US will release the collection on November 19th in select stores. The collection will be available in about 300 stores worldwide. In addition, Donatella Versace has also designed a pre-spring collection for H&M which will be exclusively available in countries with H&M on-line sales from January 19.”

It’s definitely a line for the young folks, which is fine, since that’s H&M’s target customer. Not everyone wants to wear the kind of looks that turn every head in the room, but for the young guy or gal who’s all about the attention-getting without spending a fortune, this is a great set of looks. Very, very Versace. Can’t wait to see more.

The man isn’t rockin’ the line like the ladies, but I’m still pumped for it.

  • Anonymous

Sorry – I am 52 today, and I fully intend to rock one of those jackets. So TLo, if you see an old chick running around CC in one of them, please say hi; I am the bitterest of kittens and a totally adoring fan.

    • Lisa

      Happy Birthday!

Some of Versace is like Chanel No.5 in that it can be so strong and vivid that it makes a younger person comes across as a child playing dress ups but on an older person it looks fabulous. So chances are you could pull this off better than twenty one year old me. Not that would stop from the jacket and jumpsuit if I had the money.

Let’s hope this doesn’t become a clusterfuck like the Missoni for Target disaster.

    • Anonymous

In my neck of the woods, Target can’t even give the stuff away.

      • Anonymous

Wow, really? Mine has been almost entirely sold out since day 2. All they have left are some kids’ sizes and the occasional pair of galoshes.

        • Anonymous

Ours too, only thing left by the time I got there was a comforter, some kid’s clothes and a few pairs of shoes.

      • Anonymous

Same with mine. I was at Target a half hour ago and there were stacks of Missoni flats and heels. Cute, but not my style.

      • Anonymous

Really? Sold out by the 2nd day up here. Transfer your stuff to my store, please!

Yeah, it’s too bad there’s no H&M in Florida, which is how I got Missoni for Target swag.

      • Shanna King

There is an H&M opening soon in International Mall in Tampa.

      • Anonymous

There are a few H&M that I know of in florida…. There’s one at the the Palm Beach Gardens mall that is fairly new and one at a huge Orlando Mall.. I feel like it’s name was also something along the lines of International..

Am I the only one wanting to see Taylor Lautner rock that pink suit on the rc? YUM.

  • Anonymous

My Greek-American voice teacher would certainly love a lot of this!

  • Anonymous

This is the right price range for Donatella. Maybe even still a little too high.

    • Anonymous

I’ve gotten incredibly cute dresses from H&M for around $30. Seeing how most H&M customers are college aged (like moi), I would wager that $200 for a dress is pushing it.

  • Anonymous

great leggings. they will go first. the pink suit is amusing, too.

Am I the only one so distracted by the beaver teeth on the model that you didn’t see the clothes?

As far as I can tell from the murky photographs, the only thing I like is the last dress.  And I don’t know how a $200 dress is at H&M’s “fantastic prices”–I shop there a lot, and most things are $15-$80.  And what is up with the Stepford models?

    • http://twitter.com/tehnakki nakki

Ditto this!  I can’t imagine spending $200 on an H&M dress, no matter who’s the designer!  I’ve never bought an item there that cost over $30!

It will where I live — like hotcakes, I anticipate.

  • Anonymous

I will take the two men in the second to last picture. I don’t think I can pull of those jackets nor do I really want to.

    • http://www.twitter.com/jetterz jetterz

I was just about to say the same thing! *swoon*

  • Sara__B

I’m not a young folk, but I covet all the jackets, and I can’t wait to see the young folk wearing the other stuff. (I don’t think any of the young men in my part of the sticks will wear the pink suit, but I like it!)

    • Anonymous

My 16 yo son is quite tall and slender and would rock that suit. I would totally pay him to wear it to school. Not sure I could meet his price, though.

      • Anonymous

It’s frustrating for me that my handsome, 6’4″, 19-yr-old son is not a fashionista. He only lets me style him for very special occasions.

        • Anonymous

I just showed my son the picture and asked how much I’d have to pay him to wear it to school. He said, “Ten million dollars. That way I’d have enough money to buy new friends.”

          • Anonymous

LOL. The price of new friends in this lopsided economy.

        • Anonymous

Ha, I know right? My (19 yr old) saved up and bought himself a stunning 3 piece plaid suit when he was 16, and he wears a kilt, often, but ugh, try and get him to wear ANY kind of sandal, even flip flops and he just
completely digs his heels in (wouldn’t be caught dead etc), which is fine, but he’s just moved to India!! *shrug* they like what they like :)

          • Anonymous

My son sounds like yours. The kid owns a custom-made tophat and a monocle and breaks them out on occasion. We just bought him some dress clothes because he likes wearing suits or sport coats to school a few days a week. But the pink suit was a bridge too far, I guess. I would kill to get him in a kilt!

Your son will most likely discover the necessity of sandals in India, no?

          • Anonymous

I’m hoping so! After India, it’s Rio. Surely he can not wear sneakers the whole time there??

  • http://twitter.com/mattrickhoffman Matt Hoskins

I would kill someone for the leather jacket in the second men’s picture. And I wish with everything in me that I had the body to rock that pink suit. Maybe this will finally be the motivation for me to lose that weight I’ve been wanting to get rid of…

    • Anonymous

You’ll be right behind me in the execution department bucko!  I saw that jacket and just about died!  Or as we say in Texas “Dahd!”

I can just see the slugfest at the stores when this stuff hits the racks – it’ll be worse than the fist fights that broke out on the other collections.

  • Anonymous

    Not my cup of tea.

    • Anonymous

Yeah, the only look I really like is the pink suit (model included YOW). Everything else is a bit…tacky.

      • Anonymous

Versace is always so over-the-top. I know that’s the point of the clothes, but I just cannot see myself wearing any of them.

  • Anonymous

I really like the black dresses on those two terrifying blond models. These are some very fun looks. I’m sure they will all sell out ridiculously quickly. The prices seem a little high, compared to the typical H&M clothing, but if they are better made and of better fabrics than the typical H&M fare, they are priced well.

    • Anonymous

I can’t even see the dresses in that pic because the models terrify me so much.

Also, pink suit is cool, but virtually any straight man who tries to wear it (and they will) is going to look like a complete douchebag.

    • Jennifer Coleman

That one model’s Nosferatu teeth are freaking me the hell out.

  • Anonymous

30 years ago, I would have given a kidney for that bomber jacket.

  • Anonymous

the female models are scaring the bejeezus outta me….

They look like blonde tweener Nosferatus.

Versace for H&M is not Versace.  Not feeling it.

  • Anonymous

I like it. The first men’s jacket is horrific but the rest looks young and fun.

  • http://twitter.com/lirivera lirivera

Christ, no. Even when I was 20 there is no way in hell I would’ve worn these. Tack. Ay.

    • Anonymous

There are certain labels/designers I feel like the Emperor’s New Clothes about:  Versace, Stella McCartney, and Marchesa are at the top of my “WTF?” list.

      • Anonymous

I sometimes like Marchesa’s pieces, but almost never anything by Versace. Haven’t seen enough of Stella McCartney to have an opinion.

  • Anonymous

I’m sorry, but I can’t stop seeing the blonde buck-tooth vampire in the header image.

  • Anonymous

Eww.  The only thing I like is the pink suit but that’s because it’s so Willy Wonka.

  • Anonymous

My goddaughter is always looking to be fashionable, but I don’t think she would wear these looks because they are too “done.”   She wouldn’t have any opportunity to make the look her own.

  • Anonymous

The bomber jacket is hilariously awful, but I kind of like everything else. Also, I seem to be swimming against the tide here but I think the models are adorable, teeth and all.

  • MilaXX

As much as I love the bright and colorful, Versace is too out there even for me. I’ll leave it to the young.

    • Anonymous

Please take it with you. The young don’t want it.

      • MilaXX

Let’s give it to Josh M. It seems right up his alley.

        • Anonymous

          Versace makes Josh look reserved.

  • Anonymous

Love the shiny dress on the second to last photo.  As others have said, WTF is going on with those CREEPY TEETH?  Oh wait – well they ARE British Models after all.

    • Elaina Johnston

Actually, Lindsey Wixon (the extremely gap toothed one) is American, from Kentucky I believe. Daphne Groeneveld, the blond next to her, is Dutch.

  • Anonymous

I… can’t focus on anything other than that one model’s teeth.

Oh, okay. It’s pretty enough, I suppose.

    • Anonymous

      I know gross, right?

Things I shouted while scrolling: THIS IS VERSACE?! …THAT’S AWFUL. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS, VERSACE.

  • Vaniljekjeks

Definitely for young people.  The only piece I could ever imagine myself wearing is the last, and I am in my mid twenties.  If I was a boy, however, I would go for the all pink suit because that’s just different.

  • http://profiles.google.com/trashilove { edi } ilovetrash

i like a lot of these.
even though i’m currently between forty & death {josh should look as old as i do when he’s between forty & death. then again, if he’s still w/ us he will pay lots & lotsa green to do that, same as he’s had holes drilled into his cheeks}–anyway, i could probably carry one or another of them off. yeah yeah, donatella’s taste level is somewhere only slightly north of blenley’s–but it’s full of some kind of anarchic fun which only later & directly via pricepoint can be applied to blenley’s passel of trophy wives.

i do also like the model w/ the teeth. i wish i could remember her name {all sorts of miscellaneous flotsam flies out the filing cabinet in yr mind the closer you are to the death demographic, her name is one piece of that}. still, the last time you guys featured her i sent the photos to a friend of mine who has no business in having, but has way too much interest in the youth of today. subline was “yr next crush” &, had he better taste, he mightve taken my instruction.

  • Jeremy Rueger

wow, i want that pink suit NOW.

  • Anonymous

I am thoroughly ashamed of myself – but I want to slap each an every fishmouth model up there – hard and often.
As for the clothes – the only clothes related to Versace I ever liked was Atelier Versace. This? Tacky models, tacky poses, tacky clothes. Maybe they are the right kind of tacky – but I can’t tell.
Phew, looks like I’m cranky this morning.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I can never look at Versace and see anything but Showgirls.  Not a compliment.

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

Love the fringe dress and the metallic dress too.

  • Anonymous

I mean referential is one thing and referential to your own brother should be totally cool but COME ON! Most if this is REALLY ugly. I hate Donatella Versace – its official.

  • https://me.yahoo.com/a/dLUE.9h6zdoHMLprP6AQrSQpKt0CZys-#e58b4 tom

Overall gag, but I do kind of like the guy’s jacket in the 2nd pic.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jenna-Ryan-Boatman/583622701 Jenna Ryan Boatman

This aged 37-year-old thinks the young’uns couldn’t put these looks to justice. This is a Donatella collection and those of us closer to the great lady’s age can rock these so much better than a kid who thinks her twiggy legs are fat. (I intend to get the metallic dress and the purse, for starters, and God help the big-haired Texas ladies who get in the way of my bling fix.)

  • http://smalltownbigwardrobe.wordpress.com Catherine

Yeah, I’m a girl and I totally want that pink suit.

  • Joseph Davidson

Most of the men’s stuff is too crazy (if River Viiperi can’t pull that first look off, then I certainly can’t).  But I will have that (faux?) leather jacket.  Oh, yes, I will.

  • http://www.facebook.com/charlotte.horseman Charlotte Horseman

The tropical(?) print stuff… that is just a nasty little joke being played on anyone clueless enough to spend $199 and think they are wearing Versace.

  • Anonymous

    Ehhhh.  It’s kind of tacky…

And way too expensive for H&M.

  • Christina Brennan

Boy I don’t know about how those prints are going to translate on cheap fabrics.  My expectation is that it will look less appealing in person.

  • Anonymous

    I love this.
Mostly ’cause I just made a bracelet in that greek key pattern and now I’m gonna spend the rest of the day thinking I’m hip, cool, and on-trend with Versace-light.

Of course, tomorrow I’ll wake up and be in reality again, but hey.

  • Anonymous

I’m sorry but those “blonde” models are freakin’ scary looking! And all I am getting from the guy is “Seriously? You are making me wear this stuff?”

So my take is a big “SHUDDER”

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=527150091 Pat Biswanger

Not too sure about that second jacket, just not my taste, but I dig the fourth one, the leather, or pleather whatever jacket.
