Stephen Amell Teaches Us All a Hard Lesson

Posted on October 10, 2011

Male kittens, here’s a perfect illustration of a very unpleasant truth. You won’t like hearing it. Ready? Here goes:

The genetically superior can get away with this look. The not-so-blessed will only wind up looking like George Will or a depressed PeeWee Herman. There. We said it.

We trust that being forced to look at a very pretty man will soften this blow for you. And yes, he should get his hands out of his pockets, but if we looked like him we’d be touching ourselves in public too.

        That must hurt.

        • Sobaika Mirza

But I must say, it really is the best kind of pain. That man is delicious.

          • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

Yes, he is. Never seem him before, but I’ll try to see him again.

            • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S7W2FLUJIORD3PPWRBPMNO2PZU tim

He’s on HBO’s hung do yourself a favor  and watch. If you want to see a good looking guy do naughty things that is !

funny, i think he looks terrible.  his facial hair is too scruffy and too unkempt for the look, the pants fit him terribly (and the shape is totally awkward), and the colors are blah to the max.  plus the bowtie is a hot ass mess.  if he weren’t pretty, he wouldn’t be “pulling it off” as he has so many issues t.lo normally reprimand men for ~ and i’m not referring to the whole depressed peewee herman thing. he just looks all around bad, except for the face (underneath all that hair, anyway).

      • Anonymous

I totally agree with you. And his shirt doesn’t seem to work with the tie or the jacket.

        • Anonymous

EXACTLY.  not to mention that the suit is shiny(ish) and the tie and shirt are completely identical except one is two shades darker than the other ~ completely bland and generic choices.  if someone is going to do menswear, especially a bowtie/suit combo, i think it’s more fashionable to use lots of textures, even if you don’t want to do a wild color palette.

      • http://twitter.com/TwiterlessTerri Terri

I agree.  I hate the one button jacket and while I generally love bow ties this one is really annoyingly large and pointed – like a grey clown costume.  I like the subtle print in the jacket, and I actually think the pants fit very well.  But the colors are terrible and the hair cut is boring.

      • Anonymous

Agree to all of the above. Invest $1 in a razor and maybe I’ll change my mind….

      • RocknLox

He looks exhausted. I’m not getting the sexiness when I’m staring at a beard that looks like bristled toothpicks. Especially when his suit looks like it came from The Men’s Warehouse’s garbage.

      • http://profiles.google.com/grandiva1968 e jerry powell

Part of the pants thing is the hands in the pockets…

These male stars don’t have stylists up their backsides nearly enough about things like keeping your hands out of your freaking pockets.

What the hell is on the arms of his jacket?

      • Anonymous

It looks like a baby spit up all over him and it didn’t quite come out.

        • Anonymous

Ewww. I just thought it was more dust on my filthy monitor.

It is all I can see – ack!

    • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

I like the combination of grey textures a lot. Nicely done. Ruined by hands in pockets. Sometimes I don’t mind the hands in the pockets. On this occasion I do….

That was a very HARSH lesson TLo, I might have to scroll up and learn it again, and again…

Samuel: I think it’s the sheen of the threads in the fabric?

I do kinda dig how the shoulders are cut… super sharp. And I’m too busy looking at how proportionate his face is to even notice the bow tie…

      • http://www.facebook.com/samuel.j.donovan Samuel Joesph Donovan

Maybe…but it seems to be a shape, like a deodorant mark or something.

He needs advice on how to trim his beard; that little fold over of fuzz on his neck is unattractive. The lower line of the beard looks better if if mimics the outline of the jaw (a shallow V pointing up, not a shallow arc pointing down following the neck.)

      • Anonymous

        Agreed.

      • Addicted2Glamour

“Like” a thousand times over ! SO MANY young actors make this same mistake. The first to come to mind is Justin Timberlake.

    • Anonymous

I dunno. Even the genetically superior male looks farty wearing suit pants without a belt. Good looking guy, not feeling the outfit.

(I am also feeling discouraged that I have apparently gotten so ancient and out of touch that I do not know who half the people you blog about are.)

    • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

Why is the button for his jacket at near-nipple level? Weird!

    • Anonymous

I could gaze into those eyes for a long time…

    • Anonymous

He’s really cute.  And I wouldn’t say he looks bad.  But…could be better.  The suit is fine.  With one button done and hands in pocket, that split in the jacket makes it appear he has a gut.  I wish his facial hair wasn’t so long.  It looks really rough.  I volunteer to find out.

      • Addicted2Glamour

You know after I got my attention away from that terrifying poster behind him, that’s the first thing I noticed ! I thought “Surely this man doesn’t have a poochy tummy!!”  As for the facial hair, I just don’t like how it’s so far down the neck, covering the Adam’s apple. If it were shaved around the jawline he’d look less like a well dressed vagrant.

    • Anonymous

Very much like the pattern of the jacket with the texture of the shirt & tie.

I find his looks uninteresting, but he’d do fine if you want babies with a high lifetime potential for being frequently photographed.

    • Anonymous

      I dunno . . . he just looks like a good-looking dork here.

      • Alisa Rivera

You say that as if it’s a bad thing.

    • Anonymous

Nothing about this is working for me, the haircut, the facial hair, the colors or cut of the suit. He appears to be a good looking enough guy, but not enough to overpower what is going wrong here. Also, he appears to have some schmutz on his sleeve.

    • Anonymous

I think the balance of the rugged guy in the bowtie and slim suit works here. Love the pattern on that suit and the cut of the suit.

    • Anonymous

I don’t see what’s so hard to pull off here. It’s a fairly conservative suit and you barely even notice the bow tie really.

      • Anonymous

I think wearing a bow tie that is a similar color to the shirt was a smart move. Adds a touch of quirkiness but it isn’t too out there.

    • Anonymous

Another example of pretty being in the beholder’s eye.  He’s not ugly or anything .. just very generic looking with a 4-year-old’s haircut and a face in serious need of grooming, eyebrows to neck.

I actually like the outfit very much.

    • Anonymous

Average-looking, and, in fact, mildly dorky looking.

    • Jessica O’Connell

      He looks pretty damn adorable.

And hey, bowties are cool :-)

    • Anonymous

      Damn, he’s fine!

    • Anonymous

I can accept the scruffy facial hair (although I will *never* learn to actually like it), but he needs to shave his neck.  The neck hair takes it from fashionably scruffy to just plain nasty unkempt.

And the bow tie is too small, and the way he’s got the jacket pulling open because he’s got his hands in his pockets makes everything look ridiculously out of proportion.

It’s a shame, really, because he’s a good-looking guy.  But sorry, that doesn’t excuse him looking like a hot mess, IMO.

      • Anonymous

        What she just said.
Smokin’ hot dude, but still — a hot mess.

    • MilaXX

He looks really, really cute. That is all.

    • Anonymous

Are we not wearing belts anymore?  Is that a thing?

    • Anonymous

      I’m not complaining.

    • Anonymous

I think even he looks pretty silly trying to combine the twee little tie with the rugged, rambling stubble. I think a bow tie with a slightly less neckerchief look to it might have worked, and I think he’d look fantastic in this one if he’d shaved or just cleaned things up a bit.

    • Anonymous

I’d say he’s gone full hipster-Paul Walker if it weren’t for the huge poster of his tearful be-dragged face right behind his head.

    • Anonymous

      Pretty blue eyes. *sigh*

    • Anonymous

      TLo, ilu

    • Anonymous

He looks like a younger, more facially hirsute Chris O’Donnell. YumYum!

    • Anonymous

Such pretty eyes! And yeah, he gets away with it, scruffy undistinguished beard and all.

    • Anonymous

It looks like he has a potbelly but, I’LL TAKE HIM!!!!

    • https://me.yahoo.com/a/dLUE.9h6zdoHMLprP6AQrSQpKt0CZys-#e58b4 tom

I’m not sure about this maybe you should post a picture of him nude and let us take it from there.

    • Anonymous

I don’t like the big triangle of shirt popping out below the button and above his trousers. Is the button too high and the trousers too low??  At first glance I thought it was a sport jacket with trousers, but on closer inspection I think it’s a suit.
Did he rub up against something??  His left sleeve looks like he leaned against a freshly painted something or other.

    • Alisa Rivera

I think “hot dude tries to dress well and misses by a mile” is incredibly sexy. The very definition of adorkable.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jacob-Marek/696640989 Jacob Marek

i can’t see anything besides that cheap haircut.

    • oohsparkley!

I don’t know who he is, but yum.  His eyes are mezmerizing.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Aren’t you going to say anything about his bowtie matchy-matching his very sexy eyes?

    • Lisa

It’s true.  A lesser man would have been laughed out of the room, to the strains of “Tequila.”

    • Anonymous

      “Bowties are cool”

    • Anonymous

He is a gorgeous, gorgeous man, but I hate the fit of that jacket. I just don’t get the too-high button, bare-belly, slightly too-small look.
I’m curious to see him without facial hair, just to see . . .
