Michelle Obama in Doo. Ri

Posted on October 14, 2011

Let’s all have a quick shot of fabulous while T Lo pulls together the Project Runway post so enraged commenters can vent their rage.

Michelle Obama in Doo. RiUS President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama receive South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and First Lady Kim Yoon-ok for a State Dinner at the White House in Washington, DC. First Lady Michelle Obama wears a gown by Korean-American designer Doo-Ri Chung.

You go and get it, First Girl! That could not be better suited for her body and her coloring. Love that gorgeously rich shade of purple; love that belt, which is exactly the right size and in exactly the right place; love the draping; love the earrings; love the idea of the hair, if not the actual end product, which looks a little too sloppy for a First Lady. That last point is a really minor complaint, though, because the overall effect is stunning.

And First Girl has been working out!

The FLOTUS does us all proud once again.  She looks simply amazing.  I’d say that I’d love to have that gown, but first I’d have to get the First Lady’s guns.  Which, sadly, is not possible in this lifetime.

Stunning. She is one of this country’s best assets. I am pleased and proud to have her represent us on the world stage.

      • Anonymous

        I second that emotion!

      • Anonymous

Me too. Wonderful. She just looks wonderful.

      • Anonymous

I would be honoured to have her as a representative of my country.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

Mrs. Obama should wear that color more.  Absolutely regal.  Not feeling the hair too much, but a minor quibble.

    • Anonymous

Love that she picked a Doo-Ri Chung gown.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GFMOZFM3WT3T56EZHVZFK7UXSI Ramon

I love how in love with each other they look.

      LOVE IT!

    • Anonymous

She does look wonderful… and last night was an awful night in Washington… major downpours, lightening, and tornado warnings!!
Also love love love Korean first lady’s national dress.  I’ve always thought that dress style (don’t know the proper name) was so cute!!
But where was Daniel Dae Kim and Sandra Oh???

      • http://twitter.com/graceishuman Grace

The traditional Korean dress is called a hanbok :)

      • Anonymous

        I love it, too.

    • http://twitter.com/Merneith Merneith

Michelle was born to be a First Lady. Love the gold cuff too.

I like First Lady Kim Yoon-ok as well. I think hanboks look gorgeous. I’ve always been a little jealous of people who can wear one. I especially like the delicacy of this one.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1084733830 Kate Andrews

I want to know whose cuff that is!

    • Anonymous

Our first couple is SO TALL.

      She looks lovely, of course.

    • BerlinerNYC

The hair is my favorite thing about the look. I feel like we’ve seen her in this dress before, or something very much like it (it’s fabulous, so that’s not a criticism), but the hair is unexpectedly glam and saucy for her. Way to mix it up!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jared-C-Wood/1483120929 Jared C. Wood

Her back muscles in that last pic are MAJOR!

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

Probably helped by all those jumping jacks on the White House lawn.

    • http://profiles.google.com/thisiscelia Celia

Flawless! She looks amazing and that blue belt with the purple  dress is divine!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_25O5S6LPM2HIDT6SORATOPHCWU Jacquie Scuitto

Wonder if there was cooperation with their guest on colors — the purple and pink are lovely together.   Imagine if Michelle had worn red or orange!

    • Vaniljekjeks

She’s seriously been training lots.  That is so flattering and such a beautiful color.

    • Jessica Goldstein

Not loving the hair, but everything else is pretty much perfect. She should wear this designer more often, as she looks stunning. Just beautiful.

    • Joanna Schuth

      LUV. HUH.

    • Anonymous

Yup, the hair is a mess and I’m not crazy about the draping, but she looks gorgeous! The color is great on her.

I also love the soft pink and gold of the S.Korean First Lady’s dress (forgot what it’s called, sorry).

    • Anonymous

She is getting excellent advice from someone. This beautiful look complements her personal style, her skin tone, her height, and her fitness. I would like to see the belt, cuff and earrings in a closeup; perfect accessorizing here, dramatic and very classy. The dress is a smashing color and design.

      Just lovely.

    • Anonymous

      love her love the dress

    • Anonymous

She looks great in this one. The color looks fab and she wears the style very well. Good choice!

    • Anonymous

It must have been all those jumping jacks.  She looks gorgeous.  The other first lady looks beautiful as well.  The delicate colors suit her perfectly.

    • Anonymous

totally magical… the colors of the dress and belt are perfection.

i’m not sure whether to believe the bit about the PR post ~ It could be a misdirection for another post like last week’s. because at this point, we really shouldn’t be shocked or enraged at what the producer’s do to get anya through… i’m sure even the commercials for next week’s episode, where miss beauty queen is sniveling over some “rule violation”, is just the producers trying to amp up the drama for her imevitable win. she could have a room full of malaysian kids sewing her garments during tim’s home visit and they’d still give her the win.

anyone else catch anya’s little gaff on after the runway: “i’m surprised i won … a couple challenges.” i’m sure everyone noticed, but i’d left la lounge by then.

ok, clearly i’ve gone on a completely inappropriate tangent. back to topic: you go, mrs. o!!!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_AIQJKUWFMABQ4O7A7J5TLMN6OU Ella B.

The Prez always has a huge smile on his face when he’s standing next to her.  But why wouldn’t he?

    • Anonymous

She looks stunning.  And I love the photo of him looking at her with that besotted “WOW” look.  Thanks for a good start to Friday!

    • http://www.joannao.blogspot.com JoannaOC

The colors! I love love love the purple with that belt.

    • http://profiles.google.com/ballinger.jl Jessica Ballinger

Did she cut her hair, or is that an updo?  I can’t tell.

Also, LOVE the look.  Great colors on her.

    • Anonymous

      Mrs. Obama looks ravishing.

    • Anonymous

It’s a funny pic of the four of them though. Short, tall, short, tall.

    • Anonymous

Ms. O looks fine, but what catches my eye is what First Lady Kim Yoon-ok is wearing.

    • Anonymous

To be perfectly honest, I’m pretty sure the First Lady hasn’t stopped working out. A body like that takes a lot of maintenance. She is totally stunning.

      President looks worryingly thinner, though.

    • Anonymous

Slam Dunk! She is ready for the election season. SHe is so seriously gorgeous and sexy and powerful.

“First Girl has been working out!” HA, the first thing I thought was “Damn someone’s been working out!”. Those guns are amazing.

    • Anonymous

      Both First Lady’s look beautiful.

Can you imagine what Mrs. Obama would be required to wear if we had some sort of traditional/national dress?

      • Anonymous

that’s a really interesting comment. I think someone could create a fashion TV contest around that.

        • Lori

Great idea.  It’s too bad because there used to be a terrific fashion design competition on the air but now it’s…gone.

      • Now I am The Bee

I’ve been involved with a local International Folk Fair, for 40 years, where people of all nationalities wear their national costumes.  The Americans were dressed either as Colonials–such as Martha Wasington,  or (get this) American cowboys and square-dancers.
I guess as an American Melting Pot–we really don’t have a national costume, do we?

    • Christina Brennan

Wow. this is probably one of my favorite looks of the FLOTUS.  Other than the hair.

      WOW her figure looks amazing!

    • Addicted2Glamour

Just gorgeous. These photos reminds me of the line in To Wong Foo – Try to describe her and NOT use the word “statuesque”. I too love  the belt but for me the defining accessory here is that fab gold cuff.

    • sweetlilvoice

Anyone else think the First Lady’s hair is GBF? If so, go girl! They both are glowing. Love her in that color, love that cuff.

    • Anonymous

First Lady Kim Yoon-ok loo looks lovely as well. The two presidents’ outfits look like pocket editions of each other–made me giggle to look at them.  I love how President Obama always has such a huge smile on his face when he looks at the First Lady. It’s really endearing.

    • http://twitter.com/LaurenJeanSTM Lauren Jean

Fierce. And I love the hair.

    • Cheri Lee

I couldn’t take my eyes off of her in that first pic. She is so stunning and that dress flatters her figure like nothing else I have seen her wear!

FLOTUS — drop dead fabulous. what a nice tip of the hat to the Korean-American community, too. FLOSK is wearing a magnificent hanbok — you just know that is made of the very, very best silk. and I’d love a close-up of the norigae (pendant ornaments) and information about their possible significance (regional? rank of wearer?)

      • Anonymous

I’d like a close-up and some info about that too.

Hey T-Lo–In the future, for this type of thing, would you mind posting a close up of the other first lady if possible? Thanks!

    • Anonymous

What a fab color on her.  Beautiful dress on a lovely woman.  The designer must have been over the moon!

    • Anonymous

She looks wonderful, and I love the way he kind of beams at her when she’s all dressed up. I think the hair is fine. It’s always more youthful when it’s soft.

    • iCouture

I’ve kind of always had the feeling that Barack feels extremely lucky & blessed to have such a beautiful wife by his side, that when she dresses to the nines, he cant help himself and his beaming smile!  :)
      She looks just fabulous!

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

You just know the Korean First Lady is like, ‘yeah, she gets to wear that and I have to wear this.’ Life’s not fair.
Actually, life’s not fair for anyone having to stand next to Shelley when she’s looking so hot. Wowza – she just looks amazing.

      • Anonymous

My thoughts exactly. The Korean First Lady’s traditional attire is quite lovely, and she looks dignified, proper, and pretty. But the look on her face in that first shot is pure: “How the fuck am I supposed to compete with THAT?”

    • Anonymous

She looks amazing — and definitely a tad slimmer and even more toned than before (I didn’t think it was possible).

    • Anonymous

As usual, she knocks a grand-slam out of the park in evening wear. I too am so damn proud to have her as my First Lady.

Agree with comments that she looks thinner/has lost some weight or something. I didn’t think she needed to do so, but she looks great. He also looks thinner, and REALLY didn’t need to lose anything….but I guess we know what’s going on there. Obviously not a stress eater. However, if I were President, I would weigh about 600 lbs. (ice cream, bring me ice cream!).

      • http://profiles.google.com/grandiva1968 e jerry powell

And ribs.  And definitely no light beer.

    • http://twitter.com/ajhan Angie J. Han

Not only does she look fantastic (LOVE the color), choosing a Korean-American designer for a meeting with the Korean leaders seems like a savvy move.

You go, First Girl! You know, as a DC resident I’d love to see a TLo run down of the State Dinner guests. It would be interesting to see your take on non-fashiony people with “real” body shapes attempting to glam it up. Shockingly, I thought Ruth Bader Ginsberg looked incredible!

That dress is gorgeous on her. They certainly are a lovely couple.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Oh, but I think the Prez is staring at her boobs. Eyes up, sir. Even if you are the President. Don’t ogle boobs in public. Not even your wife’s.

      • http://profiles.google.com/grandiva1968 e jerry powell

Having an ogle-worthy First Lady is to be celebrated!

    • Anonymous

Magnificent! Shelly is a visual argument for the US to have royalty. The title FLOTUS just doesn’t do her justice when she looks like this. Bow down to Her Royal Majesty!

    • Anonymous

That’s totally “I just had sex” hair, and that’s totally a “I just had sex” grin.

      Those kids!

      • Anonymous

Two grins, no?   I like it that they appear to actually enjoy one another.

      • Anonymous

OK, my post came really late in the game, but I was worried that what I said was unpatriotic! hahaha. glad so many of us thought the same thing!

      • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

Exactly.  I’m sure the hair was perfect before he saw her in that dress.  And the Korean First Lady does look like she’s in a bit of a mood.  But I don’t think it’s because of the dress, hers is very lovely.  She has that “I can’t believe I just walked in on that” look, annoyed and a little smug.  Shelly, on the other hand, looks a little pissed and a little embarassed, and the guys look like “YEEAAAAH! SEX!!”

I’m going to pretend this is true because it would be funny if it actually was.

    • MilaXX

      Luv huh! She looks perfect!

    • Anonymous

Michelle looks great in jewel tones.  Purple can look tawdry on some people, but she wears it like royalty.  Love it.

What I love even more is that she’s been convinced that her natural waist is just fine — not just fine, but better than cinching herself around her sternum.  Please Mrs. O, keep the waist right there.  It looks great.

    • Now I am The Bee

Absolutely stunning.  Also–I’ve always loved the Korean national constumes and First Lady Kim Yoon-ok looks beautiful as well.   Thanks for all the pretty this morning after all the ugh-lee last night.

    • Lori

I’m not always a fan, and I think sometimes she’s overpraised, but not here.  She.looks.gorgeous!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Heather-Waddell/10401341 Heather Waddell

Mrs. O does look stunning. But I’ve also got to give mad props to the Korean First Lady, who also looks stunning and isn’t letting on at all that the dress she’s wearing must weigh the same as she does.

    • Anonymous

Speaking of JBF hair…no wonder our President is grinning :)

    • Anonymous

I know this is supposed to be all about the FLOTUS, but I have to say that what got my attention was that beautiful hanbok that Kim YoonOk was in.  GORGEOUS!

    • Sara__B

Both First Ladies look wonderful. Mrs. O. is especially stunning in that gown, but I wish she’d do something different with her makeup. Just imagine if her makeup were as flattering as her gown…

her hair is a crime. love the dress, her earrings and bracelet clash with the belt, theyre distracting… not really werq material in my opinion, she’s looked better before.

    • http://twitter.com/AileenBartels Aileen Bartels

She’s the most interesting first lady of my lifetime and the sexiest first lady in US history.

    • Anonymous

Fab. I love how she wears fashions from a wide diversity of designers. Not just the big name fashion houses headed by white, gay men

    • Anonymous

Great color on her.  Have we ever has a more fashionable woman in the white house?   Maybe Jackie O I suppose but they have been few and far between.  I love that she loves fashion.

    • Anonymous

She looks gorgeous. That purple is one of my favorite colors. Maybe she and Mr. President had a quick makeout session before the event, hence the sloppy hair.  Is that anti-patriotic to say?

      • Anonymous

        I can’t believe I said something like “anti-patriotic.” I sound like Josh. :/

    • Anonymous

      Also love the bracelet!

    • kim i

love her, BUT wish she’d throw those shoulders back.  also:  she does that mouth thing, first pic, so much;  it’s a kind of “MAN, am i HERE again?” look.  wuwt?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Theresa-Darklady-Reed/581698361 Theresa ‘Darklady’ Reed

I like the First Lady’s hair when it’s a little softer, like it is here. She needs to be aware of how she looks when she gets that quirky smile on her face, though.

And… seriously… my god… is that woman all legs?

Every time I see my president and his First Lady, I am so proud to be an American. THEY are an example of American Exceptionalism.

This shoulda been a WERQ! Or is that not appropriate for a First Lady? 😉

I don’t care what you think about our Pres, you cannot deny he adores her.

    • http://twitter.com/rachelruthlee Rachel Lee

I personally think she looks a little too informal and partied-up next to the Koreans. The Hanbok tends to be a bit formal and very covered, so Michelle looks like she’s exposing a tad too much skin next to her. That said, I do love the earrings, the belt not so much, and I cannot deny that she looks amazing. But I wish a little more consideration had been put into how she would look next to her hosts.

Aside, how cute are the two presidents in their bow ties? 😀
