Lea Michele in Paris

Posted on October 03, 2011

How can we get Lea to understand the important lesson being imparted here?

Lea Michele out in Paris while attending several events during Fashion Week.

How fabulous is this little getup? How cute does she look when she’s not doing her patented red carpet vamping and pouting? We love just about everything here, from the big floppy hat to the Jackie O sunglasses, to the … okay, we don’t love the top that much … to those KICKASS THIGH-HIGHS. She looks fresh and sexy without looking like she’s trying too hard, which is how she usually looks when she’s on the RC.

Leah sweetie, you look so much prettier when you’re comfortable in your clothes. You and your stylist need to sit down and figure out how to translate this feeling into more formal looks because you’re getting a reputation for looking a little silly on the red carpet, even when you’re wearing something gorgeous.

I agree that she’s prettier when she’s comfortable in her clothes and not vamping; HOWEVER, this getup is much too Kim Kardashian for me. She looks better than Kim would, for what it’s worth.

You pegged it! Kim Kardashian Kostume.

      • Anonymous

Completely Kardashian. She does look more relaxed, but I don’t particularly like it, especially given that ugly print and the awkward shape and length of that shirt-cape-thingy.

        • Leslie Streeter

Yeah. I don’t love it. But that smile is gorgeous.

What is that schmatta she’s wearing? I can’t figure out what it is or how you put it on.

    completely agree – so cute!

  • Anonymous

I agree 100%.  Despite being so covered up, and in dark colors to boot (pun intended), she looks bubbly, effervescent, and joyful.

It’s so funny that everyone knows that Lea hams it up to the nth level on the red carpet. But when Sarah Hyland (Haley Dunphy on “Modern Family”) makes a little joke about it (on “Fashion Police”), everyone (re: Glee fans, Lea fans, a few other folks) gets mad and demands Sarah to apologize. Why, though? It’s the truth…wrapped up in a little joke.

Anywho, Lea looks great here. I love the whole outfit. I gravitated towards the top immediately. I want it. And her shades, too.

    • Anonymous

Agreed!  I didn’t think what Sarah said was in bad taste or mean even, just going with the flow of that show.  If you are going to take anything said on joan Rivers Fashion Plice that seriously, you had better get out fo the business or buy thicker skin.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Frank-McBee/100001434205659 Frank McBee

Urgh.   Lea never said a thing, it was her fans and Sarah who made it a issue. Lea ha ignore there comment for two years but now she needs a thicker skin.  Stupid.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Claudia-Gilbert/875055316 Claudia Gilbert

Actually, didn’t she tweet something about how hurtful it was?

          • Anonymous

No she didn’t. She was asked about it at an interview and admitted that it did hurt her feelings but Sarah is a great girl and that was her only acknowledgment of it. She wasn’t a child and didn’t use twitter as a way of airing out her grievances like the other girl. And if she did, what would be so bad frankly saying that being mocked, in a way that was not good-natured at all no matter the claims otherwise, hurt your feelings? Yes celebs kind of know what they’re getting into by becoming public people, but they’re still human with real feelings, not emotionless robots.

    • MilaXX

I thought it was only Lea’s camp that got upset over that. Everyone else, myself included thought it was funny.

  • Anonymous

    the smile makes it.

LOVE.  True, I’m not a huge fan of the print on the top, but I get it and would wear the hell out of it in a different print.  Tre’ adorable.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2B6U4UNVYIV5DLEG6Z24ALYOC4 Dan Alexander

Is that a top with a matching cape? I just don’t get it! Love everything else except the top!

  • Anonymous

She looks fab!  I want to be her friend here, hang out and eat croissants all day, laugh and have fun.   I NEVER get that feeling when she is doing “THE LOOK” on the red carpet.  Figure out how to get this in a formal look and you will be the big star you clearly want to be.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kimberly-Burke/100002384493067 Kimberly Burke

Can I join you.  That sounds divine. :)

  • http://fafafab.tumblr.com/ fafafab

not sure, it looks too JLo for my taste, but I love her to death so I wouldn’t dare say one negative thing about her

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kimberly-Burke/100002384493067 Kimberly Burke

Ugh.  I didn’t see it until you said it, but there is a definite JLo vibe to it.  I do still think it works very well for Lea though.

  • Anonymous

    She looks like a couch.

  • Anonymous

She doesn’t have a bad reputation with me, I didn’t get that memo/meme. On the RC, Lea always looks great and I agree, how cute does she look here.

  • Jessica O’Connell

Not a huge fan of the shirt at all but she still looks great and I LOVE her hat, and I’m not a hat person so that’s saying quite a lot.

  • Anonymous

It’s cute but it’s a costume.  Every time we see celebrities on the street they are either dressed like hoboes or attention-seeking fame whores.  Why can’t they just put on some clothes?

    • Anonymous

I agree – they always seem so pointedly put together in a faux “boho” manner.  However, if I had photographers buzzing around me whenever I left my house, I would probably think twice about my usual outfit of worn-out jeans, old concert t-shirt and flip-flops!  Thank goodness I don’t have to be so self-aware 24/7.

      • Anonymous

I think a lot of these celebrities call the paparazzi to come take their picture to promote an image. There are plenty of super famous celebs we never see in these on the street moments. I don’t think Lea Michele is so famous that Parisian paparazzi are following her – she’s not Angelina Jolie. More like her publicist called them to promote an image of chic worldliness, and this outfit was meticulously planned for it.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Frank-McBee/100001434205659 Frank McBee

except for all the times the paparazzi catches her in just shorts and a tee shirt or exercise clothes.

          • Anonymous

Maybe in the US, she is so popular to have her photo taken while exercising, but in Paris? Also celebrities get paid to advertise things like yoga mats and studios by having the paparazzi take their picture just as they are entering them with perfect hair and makeup.

          • Anonymous

The Parisian paps are probably not working for Parisian papers in this case. Lots of these guys are freelancers and will work for whoever pays. Absolutely her publicist would have sent out notices saying “Lea’s going to be at Fashion Week in Paris,” but all that means is the photo editor at US Weekly or wherever calls their Parisian stringer and says, “Get me photos of Lea Michele.” Wire photographers would also want them – Getty, AP, etc – in fact, one assumes that’s where these photos come from.

And I’m with TenorRinger: if I knew there were going to be photogs there, I’d dress for it. I would rather have the world think I’m a phoney than have the Enquirer analyze my cellulite, given the choice. I think this outfit is a bit old for her (definite JLo vibe) and I can’t imagine walking around all day in those boots, but she looks cute, so good for her.

  • Anonymous

I don’t fully understand the top and it looks as though it’s swallowing her up. Otherwise, it’s a cute look. A little covered and all engulfing, but still stylish.

  • Anonymous

I can’t sign on to this.  Something about thigh high boots reads Pretty Woman to me.  There might be some people out there who can pull them off without looking like a hooker, but she’s too little to be one of them.  Maybe Charlize Theron or something.  But not Lea Michelle.  Points for acting natural in front of the cameras, though.  If that has something to do with the clothes, then yes, she should look into making changes.  But I just can’t with this get up.  The hat + the glasses + those boots are for me just too much LOOK AT ME.

    • Deana Grenberg

Agreed.  The hat kind of pushes her into Puss In Boots.  But those are the only two directions you can go in thigh high boots.

  • Sobaika Mirza

She looks great but the look is rather… high maintenance. Another feeling she has a habit of conjuring with her outfits.

  • Anonymous

    I hate that style hat

    • Anonymous

Very late sixties look—I had one just like it.

      • Anonymous

I had one too… that’s why I thought I could comment with some authority… I looked like an idiot!!

  • Anonymous

She looks great here–like a real person and not like a dressed-up doll.

  • Lori

Love it.  And I don’t pretend to know what’s going through her head, but that smile seems refreshingly genuine for a change, and it’s a lovely smile.

  • Anonymous

I’m surprised at how good she looks in those boots, given that’s she’s a tiny thing (isn’t she?). I guess it is all about proportions.

Agree with others that the top is iffy, but over all, I think she looks great.

I just tried on a hat like that and loved it. Reminded me of ones I’ve owned in decades past…might have to spring for one this Fall.

  • Anonymous

What a cute little outfit! And those boots are indeed kickass. I probably wouldn’t squeeze my calves into them though, nevermind my thighs. I ain’t jealous though – even when I say the following point: (and I’m probably going to sound a little mean here and nitpicky here) but to me that giant smile is almost as bad as the giant pout she defaults to on the red carpet. The grin looks pretty natural in the first shot, but by the last photo it looks almost like it’s paining her. It just seems to me like there’s no happy medium with this girl. And, I promise it’s not the boots jealousy speaking. Much.

Love. She looks fantastic. I love the shirt.

  • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

Really? She looks like she’s trying too hard, here, to me.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Frank-McBee/100001434205659 Frank McBee

Please I am so sick of people ganging up on her posing.  She is mostly doing what the photographers are asking her to do. Smile, bedroom eyes, blow us a kiss. WHO THE HELL IS IT HURTING if she does this?

  • Anonymous

I disagree, this reminds me of “Jenny form the Block”.  No no no.

  • Anonymous

I like the top a lot.

However, I know they are in style but I just don’t think I’ll ever be able to get behind thigh high boots on non professionals. Just. no.

  • MilaXX

Not crazy about the capelike feature on the top, but the rest of the outfit is cute.

  • Anonymous

Wha? Thigh High boots in the middle of the day is definitely Trying to Hard.

  • Anonymous

Totally agree boys! She looks happy and relaxed and completely stylish. bravo lea!

  • Anonymous

    Love the top!

  • Judy_J

    Cute.  Love the boots.

  • Anonymous

Cute! This is the first time I’ve gotten a sense of Lea Michele as a person, not a persona.

  • Wrenaria

I love the pants and boots and not much else. The hat a cute but its all feeling a bit much. And I hate the top.

  • Anonymous

The hat, boots and top and maybe the glasses – I get a Genesis with Peter Gabriel vibe

  • Anne Slovin

She must be dying of heat in that get-up.  Looks good, but it’s 80 degrees out in Paris right now and there is no air conditioning.  Have fun with those boots.

  • Anonymous

What? This outfit is a whole kettle of crazy! The boots and jeans are cute together. Her Zarape / Crime fighting winged top coupled with Diana Ross’s hat from Mahogany is way too many things.  I like that she is not posed and that makes her very attractive and enduring in the photos.

I thought it was a Kardashian at first glance

  • http://profiles.google.com/trashilove { edi } ilovetrash

i believe this is what they were after when they said “sophisticated 70s.”

    edited to add:
the only thing i dont much like is the top. i hate thinking is it her bra? is it not her bra? when i look at somebody.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

she does look amazing when she’s comfortable.  Never would have noticed that – thanks TLo!

  • elzatelzabelz

Agreed. She looks so much more gorgeous here because she’s natural and having fun. More of this Lea, please!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MN3NQ262BP3YF2RQJ4DYQQBDMA Shalia

She look so comfortable in her clothing, I almost thought she was Anne Hathaway for a moment.

  • Anonymous

Ugh – to me the boots take it to Snookiville, and that’s a place you don’t wanna go.

  • Anonymous

I think she looks like she’s auditioning for a part that she’s not capable of pulling off.  Or copying a Kardashian or Snookie.  Yikes!
