In or Out: Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior

Posted on October 25, 2011

Sometimes, the absurdity of motion picture marketing can be entertaining, but it’s times like these our hearts go out to poor celebrities and stylists.

Marion Cotillard in Christian DiorMarion Cotillard attends the premiere of “Contagion” in Paris in head-to-toe Christian Dior.

Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior

All that work just to stand in front of a backdrop that makes you look like a poster warning about the dangers of venereal disease. She looks thrilled to be standing in front of that sickly yellow wall, doesn’t she? “Yeah. ‘Danger!’ “Contagion!’ Haha. Very funny. I’m Typhoid Fucking Marie. We done with the pictures?”

We think the dress is kind of cute, but the outfit on a whole seems kind of lacking. Not for lack of trying with the shoes, though. Those things look like they come with a 40-page manual. We don’t know. Everything’s cute, but it’s lacking oomph. At least from the knees up. We’re thinking she needed a statement piece of jewelry and less casual hair. Are we wrong here? We’re asking.

Sigh. IN. I hate the dress, but she wears it well, and the background is not her fault.

  • Anonymous

I agree, something seems off here. She looks so perfectly put together and I want to love it, but she’s lacking that extra oomph that really would make her stand out.

    • Anonymous

This is a dress that needs a hat, a bag, and different shoes. Maybe yellow pumps? If her knees looked better, I’d say bare legs were fine, but just no. Those legs are crying out for stockings. The hair should be up.

Still I’m going with an In. It’s a cute dress and it’s not her fault that the backdrop is like that.

      • Anonymous

Oh, I don’t know, I think with the cute but tortured shoes, having her hair up might be too much. I think if you have chains on your feet, maybe you need to let your hair down. IN.

      • Anonymous

I know I’ve said this before, but come on now.  Her knees are FINE.  I seriously cannot believe this level of nitpicking being applied to perfectly normal (well above-average, really) legs.

Anyway, I agree that the accessories are lacking, but I’ll go with IN anyway, mainly because it’s clearly not an out.

  • Liana Brooks

IN – If she knew that was the background there really was nothing else she could wear that wouldn’t look hideous. This is plain, but it works. Black wouldn’t have, it would be too Typhoid Mary. All white wouldn’t. Any color would have clashed. The poor dear had no choice.

  • Shannon Stewart

LOVE the dress.  And it doesn’t seem to be all that formal for a premiere, so I’m good with the more casual vibe.

  • Anonymous

In. She looks good in that dress and I love the color of the the shoes.

IN (in spite of the hair)

  • Anonymous

Totally IN.  She wears a dress well that would be a colosssal failure on most other women.  LOVE those shoes, HATE that ill conceived backdrop.

  • Presumptuous Insect

She doesn’t have her legs crossed, so that’s a plus. In.

  • Julia

IN, because for some reason I responded really well to this look. Is it weird that it’s refreshing to see a celebrity who doesn’t give a shit about her movie?

  • Anonymous

Yow!  Look at the model’s shoe shot – there’s a fresh scratch on the instep.  Those shoes are nertz, in this Aged Minion’s opinion.  Take more than one step and wouldn’t those chains be lacerating her skin?  I feel for Mlle. Cotillard.  That was work to wear this ensemble under these circs.

  • Heather Kaplin

I actually like it quite a bit, I think the lack of umph is more from her posture than anything else… like you said, she looks less than thrilled.
    (In other words, IN)

  • erin l.

In. I like it, I just don’t think this is her dress. She is a beautiful soul, and someone who was a bit more edge could really make it a WERQ.

  • Anna Maria Diamanti

F-ing LOVE those shoes, and especially love that she went with that color. The problem is the top half of the dress looks like a mistake–you have to stare at it to see the lines in fact match up.

  • Anonymous

I agree the dress does need something to give it some umph, as you can’t expect those shoes to do all the work.  But those shoes look painful, a strangling, pinching, blistering mess.  Cute, yes, but ever so painful.  I’m with Iman, I don’t think your feet should suffer for fashion.  But that’s just me and Iman, I think.  So IN, but a qualified IN.

  • Anonymous

Yes, maybe a necklace but I like the look, overall.

  • Stan

    IN! You’re wrong here!

  • Anonymous

You are right, she could have used a bit more pizzazz, but she’s still an IN. I’ve got a hopeless girl crush on her.

  • Jill Tracy

  • Anonymous

IN. I like the clean look, but a statement piece of jewelry would’ve been OK as well. LOVE the shoes and think the pop of color she chose (instead of the black/model version) was a nice touch. Of course, I wouldn’t want to walk in them, but they are pretty amazing.

As an aside, Ms. Cotillard certainly can wear clothes – anybody see Midnight in Paris? Loved her costumes in that movie. Walked out of the theater and remarked to my movie companion that I would totally wear any of them right now! Beautiful outfits and Marion totally rocked the era.

  • kim i

marion cotillard is all the “oomph” an outfit needs.  other clothes should be so lucky.

  • tom markiewicz

IN. i think if she just had of had one slightly more impacting piece of jewelry, she would’ve been fine. OR if the pattern of the dress on top continued all the way down, it would’ve been a better dress.

  • Anonymous

    IN.  She’s fabulous.

  • Ebba Svantesson

  • Anonymous

I actually like it so In. The movie’s been out for a while so maybe a more casual look is called for.

  • Laura Schultz

IN. Except for the side hair, I love it! That dress is adorable…

  • MandyJane

Yeah, I’m gonna say “in” even thought it’s not very exciting. Maybe it would look much better if she wasn’t standing in front of that background? Hard to tell.

  • Toto Maya

I say in. I think that a more colorful pair of shoes would really make it though.

  • Anonymous

In.  Not WERQ material, but good enough to be in.

  • Anonymous

Your comment about the shoes needing a 40 page manual is hilarious – I was thinking the same thing. I absolutely love them and covet them but it must take some effort to get them on and all the parts pointing in the right direction.

  • Anonymous

I’m on the fence.  The dress is interesting, different but throw a cardigan over her shoulders and she is on her way to work.  I want the shoes badly.

  • Anonymous

Very much everything from the waist up.  The weirdly widening bottom of the dress is not good and the La Cage Aux Folles bondage shoes are…what the what???  Declining to vote.

  • Anonymous

IN. Not in love with the dress, but it’s alright and she looks pretty in general. Totally digging the shoes even though you’d need to hire someone to help you get them on. The backdrop gets a big fat “out”. Ridiculous.

  • Anonymous

Normally I am the champion of some volume on the bottom/skirt.  But man this looks bad (and widening) and out of balance (especially on the model).

  • Anonymous

Those shoes are all kinds of awesome (in spite of the ankle straps), but the dress gives me a headache just looking at it.  I half expect an image to pop out like those Magic Eye pictures.  Out.

  • Robert Sanchez

In. I think she looks pretty adorable, dress cute, shoes cute, and her hair and makeup look great.

  • Anonymous

i agree she needs something… jewelry would probably be a good bet.  i kind of like the dress and LOVE the shoes (even though i could probably never wear them)….sigh

  • Lisa Utter

    Definitely IN!

  • Anonymous

I do love the dress and the heels, but I also feel like something is missing.  So IN, I guess.  I feel so wishy-washy today. Sigh.

  • Anonymous

Wrong shoes for that dress, and the shape of the skirt on that dress is just… I love hips and I love cartoony shapes, but it just kind of looks like someone popped her hips like a balloon, even if it does look like they reduced the amount of fabric for the red carpet version.

  • Gaby Ripoll

Iiiin. Y’all are so wrong. Sorry, TLo, I feel like a bad minion.

  • MilaXX

IN.I can’t decide if it needs a little something or the backdrop is too distracting but I like the dress and the shoes.

  • Amye

I’ll say IN.  Yes, it needs a bit of “oomph” bangle-wise, but I think the wall is really what’s distracting.

Don’t care for the shoes, but I like the color.

  • Vickie Driver

Love the shoes.  And she looks better in the dress than the model did.

  • Anonymous

She looks fabulous to my eyes. IN.

  • Sara Parker

I agree with @twitter-47730438:disqus : it’s a bit too casual for a premiere, but given the background she had to work with, she really had no choice.  IN.

  • JaneM

I like the dress and the shoes, but when you where that dress no one looks at you. You have to stare at the dress like some kind of optical illusion that forces you to rivet your eye on it. Which makes it an out.

    • JaneM

      oh…I meant wear…that dress.  The flu….

  • Dave

IN.  Fun, bold, graphic – kinda of Katy Perry lite.

  • Anonymous

    In. You’re wrong. I love a stripe!

  • Briana Blanchard

IN. The shoes and, ahem, Marion Cotillard herself are enough to take the pretty-but-simple dress and hair up a notch.

  • Anonymous

Out – the contradictory lines make her torso look thin and her pelvis look wide.

  • { edi } ilovetrash

oh for heavens sake, if it looks like a high end version of josh’s horrible pants & it makes the model look like her butt is the size & shape of the front of the tunnel that takes the boats down into the land o’ love– only covered w/ an optical illusion plus you pair the whole mess of an ensemble w/ sickly salmon velvet shoes covered w/ buckles enough to accommodate any number of lindsay lohan’s required anklewear– anyway, where was i going w/ this? better than when she had the ‘fro but she shouldnt be doing this to herself either.

    edited to add:
& neither should christian dior. why couldnt JG just have put a less impaired sock in it? cos he couldnt have made this, could he? or, rather, even if he had it just proves his level of distraction. but i dont think he did.

  • Barbara Potter

Yeah well, Sagecreek said all there is to say.  In, but with a sigh.

  • Anonymous

Had to keep it simple in front of that busy backdrop

  • Anonymous

Hmm… for me, it’s an IN. I really like the dress and the shoes are so interesting with a nice pop of color. But on looking again, it is missing something to tie it all together.

  • Anonymous

An updo and simpler shoes would have helped.  Cute dress, though.

  • Anonymous

I absolutely loved this when The Fug Girls posted it yesterday.  I thought the shoes were divine, but on closer inspection was a bit disappointed.  I wanted the chains to be crystal encrusted and it almost looks like they are patent wing tipped.  All told, these are small quibbles with what for me, is an otherwise splendidly simple dress with a fantastic pop of color at the feet.

I liked her casual, yet polished hair and simple jewelry.

It’s all IN for me, baby.

  • mc90

    In, in, in. Love it.

  • Cristin Colvin

She needs a jaunty hat….that would make it a total IN.

  • Anonymous

In. Perfect dress for the busy busy background. LOVE the shoes!

  • Anonymous

Out – but so close!  I feel like a belt would make a huge difference.  The shoes are pretty fierce, though!

  • Buffy

The dress looks like a tablecloth to me.  Points for wearing a colored shoe instead of the black, but they look scary and too complicated for the dress.  So OUT I guess.

  • Anonymous

first of all, those shoes are freaking awesome! Second, the dress is gorgeous and fitted nicely!

but… a wristwatch? I like watches and this one looks pretty, but it takes the look from sexy, sleek night on town to sexy working girl.

    still, though… In

  • Anonymous

totally in…the shoes are great. maybe they were the attempt at oompf, what with the matching coral lip…if her nails were the same shade it may have teased my eye into thinking this was really great yet not too matchy-matchy. different hair-hate the side swoop.

  • Anonymous

Love the dress, LOVE the shoes (especially that she switched the coral). Needs either a single huge bangle or her hair pulled messily away from her face and some big earrings to balance out the shoes. At the moment the eye is drawn down to the shoes and isn’t drawn away. There’s a reason the model is wearing a folded napkin on her head.

  • Anonymous

It’s not terribly wrong but it should come with a seizure warning. Love the shoes. IN.

  • Anonymous

Oh dear. That dress, in fit and in pattern, does nothing for her hips. There’s a dropped waist that isn’t quite dropped enough. There’s a pattern that’s doing everything but meeting at the sides of her dress. Pause. WHAT IN THE HECK IS HAPPENING ON THE SIDES OF HER DRESS?? And to top it all off, she’s stolen shoes from the mannequin at Hot Topic. She looks embarrassed. She should be. OUT.

  • Adrian

I love her, but this just looks…odd. I mean, it’s Marion Cotillard, she’s *so* beautiful, that if you look at her and go “enhhhh…I don’t know…” you know that she’s been dressed poorly. I really dislike the shoes – color, design, everything about them. The dress is fine, I guess, but something about it doesn’t suit her, although with appropriate styling I think it could look much nicer. The real crime here, I’ve decided, is the makeup & hair. The hair looks half finished, and the makeup is just wholly inadequate. Kind of like…were they trying to make her look kind of tired? I say OUT.

  • Shannon Tierney

In. I’m not crazy about what the pattern does in the front of the bodice, but everything else is simple perfection. LOVE the shoes.

  • Anonymous

She looks so bored here and Doir is just a yawn for me lately, I’m not impressed with anything here.

  • Anonymous

I’ll give her an IN. Love the hair, make-up and shoes. The dress is great, it just lacks something for some reason on her. For a new mom though she looks great!

  • Heather McIlrath

I say in, because I think that dress is really cute and those shoes are pretty hot. HOWEVER, she should have pulled her hair back to show off those shoulders and showcase a kickass pair of earrings.

  • Anonymous

I don’t know if I agree, She looks very light and flirty. It’s not really an autumnal piece, though. IN on account of Marion Cotillard’s beauty unhindered by this chic outfit.

  • Anonymous

While I agree that more formal hair and a piece of statement jewelry would have improved the look, I’m going to give her an IN anyway, if for nothing else than the color pop on the shoes!

  • Sorana Tarmu

Nope. You’re right. Too drab. OUT.

  • Jessica Goldstein

God knows she’s one of the few who could pull of the hat the model’s wearing, but I still give her an IN. The hair is pretty, the makeup is nice, and I love the dress and shoes. Would absolutely kill for both in fact, and think the look suits her and, best of all, fits her. It’s the background I hate.

  • Jack Marquardt

  • Meaghan Kennedy

I love Marion, but as the face of Dior wearing Dior, I agree there is something missing. Maybe it’s just the yellow backdrop thats killing it for us. You have to say though Marion even when she’s missing something still looks better than half the celebs.

  • Sandy Ladignon

    IN. I want the shoes!

  • Anonymous

I think the look is perfectly cute.

  • Anonymous

In.  I don’t really like the dress but it fits my criteria of flattering, tasteful, and (definitely) not boring.  I almost wish the shoes were black and there had been a necklace or bag for a touch of color.

  • Joyce VG

    IN!  Pretty!

  • Anonymous

In.  And I must have the shoes.

  • Kate Musgrove

I vote in, because I love the shoes and like the dress. The hair is terrible, though.

  • Anonymous

In…LOVE the lines on the dress!!

  • Anonymous

The dress is making my eyes twitch. You have to do better than just turning the lines a different direction to make an optical-effect dress impress me.

I love the shoes, but not with that dress. Actually, I think I love the shoes in theory, but I can’t think of anything they would go with that can be worn in public.

  • Tara

I like the dress and LOVE the shoes. In. :-)

  • Turtle Emily

Nothing makes me want a pair of shoes more than seeing a cut on the model’s foot.

I love the dress from the waist up.

  • Judy S

IN. I think the hair is good with that particular dress. The only problem is her expression–about that, you are right.

  • Jenna Gordon

those shoes in black are fan-fucking-tastic! i would sell my neighbors baby for a pair of those…seriously who wants a baby?

  • Anonymous

IN. This is a WERQ moment. Period.

  • Sara Munoz

    A belt, maybe?

I’m just not feeling this. OUT.

  • Anonymous

IN but “Important” earrings would have done wonders.  Do prefer the shoes in that red/melon color.

  • Anonymous

I want to give her an in, but I just can’t.  Sad. Out.

  • Anonymous

    I love this . IN.

  • Anonymous

Neither – not enough to be IN, not bad enough to be OUT.  Obviously, I don’t want your jobs…

  • Catherine Rhodes

Some wow curly hair and some wow earings and bracelet are absolutely needed. But I’m still going IN for wearing those shoes!! The only woman on the Red Carpet not wearing silly putty pumps or black peep toes.

  • Anonymous

My vote is IN, the dress is super cute and the shoes are fantastic!!!! I’m glad she went with the color version and not the black ones…

  • Anonymous

She looks awesome. Marion Cotillard rules.

  • Anonymous

IN. I love everything I see (that isn’t a yellow wall).

  • Anonymous

IN. The dress is chic and interesting and hard to wear, I imagine, yet she does it well. The shoes are weird, but also interesting and I like the color choice. From a distance they look like those slick plastic Brazilian shoes that are so trendy.

  • Elizabeth Rust

OUT. I don’t care for the dress – it makes even the model look hippy – and even though the low-key colors work well against the yellow wall of contagion, the shape and the contrasting diagonals-and-stripes don’t help the overall look.

  • Emily

In.  I like it all.  Call me crazy.

  • Aaminah Khan

I like the dress a lot, but I actually wish she’d worn those shoes in the black – I’m just not loving that pinkish colour. She’s IN because she just looks so pretty, but with a bit of oomph, this could have been closer to a WERQ.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, maybe some jewelry, but look at that face.  Beautiful.

  • Anonymous

In. This dress is cute. it’s de-lite-ful, with some interest in the shape. She wears it the way it needs to be worn. except for the shoes. not a good match.

that background ruins the whole look, but IN as she’s looks beautiful as always.

  • Anonymous

like that she is going old school and wearing a watch, but its my mom’s watch….and add a purse, she is standing so middle school

  • Cheri Lee

IN except her feet look like they are under quarantine.

  • Katherine Pisarro-Grant

I agree about the hair and lack of jewelery, BUT I absolutely love this unexpected dress-shoe pairing. I think it really works and it’s fresh! IN.

  • Anonymous

  • Ebony Dawkins

The color of the shoes might be the culprit here. IDK…

  • Anonymous

IN, I think she looks great, and those SHOES! They look completely fabulous and yet very painful at the same time.

  • Anonymous

IN. She could use some jewelry, but I don’t have any issues with the hair. Great outfit!

  • MandyM

IN! Those are some wicked shoes and the dress is nice on her. But you aren’t entirely wrong.

  • nicole seligman

IN. i love the dress and hate the shoes, but i’m glad to see she isn’t just wearing black pumps.

  • nicole seligman

IN. i love the dress and hate the shoes, but i’m glad to see she isn’t just wearing black pumps.

  • Anonymous

OUT. I agree. When I saw this, I didn’t like it or hate it. To me, that means you have failed.

  • Meira Niibori

Her hair’s too short to do the one-shoulder thing, and I hate that style anyway; the top half of the dress either needs to meet up in the regular squares or the little diamonds, but not both; she looks tired & pissed; and she has no “oomph”.  Even so, I say IN – despite the quibbles she looks put together, stylish, and pretty.

  • Anonymous

Out.  You said it all with “Everything’s cute, but it’s lacking oomph”.

Nothing is really making an impact.  Nice, but not put together right.

  • stef lee

I think it would have been greatly improved with a belt. It’d break up the monotony of the dress, and the pattern doesn’t line up well at the waist.

  • Rachelle Neame

She looks so sweet! So French!

  • Fifi LaRoux

    I like it. IN

  • Anonymous

  • Anonymous

Shoes: In. Dress: Out. Marion: Forever IN. This attempt:…Out.

  • Anonymous

Oh, and I just have to say, practically everyone saying “In” is because they are lovin’ on Ms. Cotillard, which I am too, but c’mon. She can do (and has done) WAY better. Out. Still.

  • Manon Eileen

The shoes, in black, paired with a different dress, maybe a more colorful one (I think they would be gorgeous with a green or purple dress) would be awesome. This dress is sad. Also I don’t like how they made the hips part of the dress so wide. That really doesn’t flatter anyone, not even Marion Cotillard. The pattern doesn’t help either.

  • RzYoung

I love it all IN i just think she’s not selling it, bless her. She’s got a tiny baby, she’s probably knackered.

  • Adrienn Keszei

I’d say IN. You are not wrong, something’s definitely missing …she might not look fantastic here, but still pretty enough.

  • Anonymous

Stunning. So IN. I think the hair down is the best choice for this dress- hair up would just look too “office worker” to me. Those shoes make me speechless (in a good way) and choosing the gorgeous coral colour over the black was a great move.

  • Anonymous

In but see what you are saying. Honestly I think it is missing the little jaunty hat but that what have looked silly on the red carpet.

  • Anonymous

    IN! Looks pretty good.

  • Anonymous

Maybe she should have worn the hat? I’m only half joking. Sorry, Marion, but you’re not working that Dior dress in the manner I have come to expect from you. OUT!

  • Coleen D. Wybranski

I’m going IN, but I do wish she’d done some bangles instead of her watch. (Though the watch is endearing and screams New Mom to me; I imagine her checking it and thinking, “Okay, only 2 more hours and then I gotta go pump. I do hope Marcel’s okay.”)

  • Anonymous

  • Anonymous

She needed some color in there other than just on the feet.  Dunno what though.  Still, tentative IN, and I rather like the shoes.

  • Anonymous

I think a killah updo would help bring some oomph to the look. The dress is nice, the shoes are great, and she looks very pretty, but it needs *something*. I can’t put my nose on it, so IN.

    • Anonymous

Err, put my finger on it. Need more coffee.

  • ecallaw

I think it’s perfect.  Love the pop of color of the shoes.

  • Anonymous

IN – I think she looks great. It is a little understated, but it’s very sophisticated and brings the right level of oomph for a movie premiere. I agree it almost borders on a ladies who lunch dress, but I think the shoes take it to the next level. Also, LOVE HUH.

  • RocknLox

Her hair looks better than it EVER has in this picture… I think she looks fine. IN.

  • Anonymous

    in. those shoes are fuhmazing.

  • Stefanos Mantyla

It maybe should have been a little more dressed up. Shoes certainly show effort, but still, even if it is not quite the quintessential OUT, I think it is still an OUT just because it does not quite look IN.

And that wall paper is terribly unflattering to anyone sitting in front of it, I agree!

And why does the dress look strangely unflattering on the model? Or is it just me?

  • Anonymous

It’s an In, because it’s cute, looks good and she’s tried to perk it up a little with the shoes.  For many people this would be a raving IN, but Marion has set the bar very high on occasion, so for her it’s more a lackadaisical In.

  • Anonymous

IN!  Love the shoes and the dress looks great on her!

  • Anonymous

In. I love that dress and the shoes are meh, but the dress is awesome.

  • Rachel Council

IN, she looks great, but the outfit could’ve used a necklace or a belt.

  • Dave Carter

In! She is fabulous and while it isn’t her most exciting outfit, she still looks great and the shoes rock.

  • Brian @ PWYJudges

Something about the dress paired with those shoes just feels off; however, I’ll give her an IN for being so good in ‘Contagion.’ Fine.

  • Anonymous

    IN. I like it.

  • Anonymous

In. She looks in need of a double espresso to perk up a bit, but overall, in.

  • Anonymous

Those shoes are fun in a scary way, but my gut says something’s just not coming together here. OUT.

  • Grace Ritt

IN! I think she looks fab. Good styling with the shoes.

  • Anonymous

I love it!  I think she looks great – IN

  • Cheri Patrick

Out.  It could be a cute dress, needs a belt.  The shoes are awful, the hair disinterested.  So it doesn’t matter about the ugly backdrop, she’s an out regardless.

  • Janie R

That dress is precious, but there’s something missing. I don’t know what it is. I think I would know it if I saw it.

  • MajorBedhead

The dress is making me dizzy and it’s not really a movie premiere dress, so out.

  • Cathy S

The only part of this I like is the hat the model is wearing. I don’t like the dress (where the pattern changes it makes her hips, and the models hips, look huge, and I hate the shoes. Great hat though.Out.

  • Mary McClelland

Hmm… I love the shoes. But no, she’s OUT. TLo is right she needs to pump up the volume somewhere.

  • Anonymous

If she were standing in front of a solid-colored wall –say red or blue, there would be nothing missing. And I applaud the shoe color. In.

  • Julie Fountain

Not perfect but I think she looks pretty darn cute, so in.

  • Anonymous

IN. I think adding color to the shoes is enough to give her a pass.

  • Anonymous

I think you’re 100% right that a piece of statement jewelry and more “done” is exactly what this look needs, but I think she’s still IN as is. Wearing the shoes in coral was a great choice.

    • Anonymous

ditto ditto ditto – and an In, por favor.

    • Anonymous

also, a thought – not to a movie for obvious reasons, but that whole damn thing would look great with an updo and a black hat (or maybe I’m still visiting with Korean Vogue)

  • Zeeshan Ali

  • Mike Benedetto

The hat on the model completed the look.

But she’s still cute in the dress. The pink shoes added a little necessary interest.

  • Tom Shea

It hurts my heart because I love her so, but she’s OUT. The pannier look is awful, IMO, and the shoes don’t really work for me.

  • Rachel Lee

Out! What on earth are those shoes? They look like stripper-in-winter!

  • Anonymous

In. She looks super cute. Just wish her lipstick didn’t match her shoes.

She needs a nice black belt to break up the graphic of the fabric.  And different shoes.  These are Kardashian shoes not French Oscar winner shoes.  Not sure statement jewelry would work – maybe a large bracelet would pop, but a necklace or earrings would get swallowed by that print.  And the background!  Puke yellow.  Lovely.  Poor woman is working an impossible carpet – acid yellow walls, burgandy and grey carpet  – *shudder*

I think that she could have used a little more jewelery to kick it up a bit, but the dress is cute, the shoes are interesting and pop, and I think the hair and makeup look pretty. IN.

Oh, I don’t know guys, it’s not red carpet but she looks really good in that outfit. I think it’s the yellow background that’s making the collective eyes hurt.  I think the shoes are great!

IN. I wish she would have done something else with her hair, but overall I really like this look.

IN  Everything is just as it should be.

I love everything about this. IN

You’re right: the dress is kind of cute. But ‘kind of cute’ doesn’t play well with dominatrix Easter pumps.

I’m sure it must have been said, but I wish she had worn the hat, from the runway look. It kind of gives it a little something. I don’t love the color of her shoes, but I appreciate that she did add some color with her footwear. I LOVE the black version of those shoes.
    I say she’s IN.

Minus the backdrop, she’s a big “in.”  Her people should have realized that all of those black lines against the yellow back drop with lots of black print would be too busy.  But, despite that demerit, she’s still in.

IN. She looks cute. Could use a nice big bangle.

    A very prejudicial OUT.

The dress is o.k. and could have been styled up. Wasn’t.

Like the color of the shoes but not the glittery laces look.

In the end it’s out because I am left feeling very, very underwhelmed, and M. Cotillard is usually quite impressive. So something is very wrong, here.

want/need those shoes. not to wear. just to look at. she is totally IN.

  • vmcdanie

In. Love the dress. Love the shoes. The backdrop is kind of hilarious.

  • Shawn Hill

IN! The dress is sort of a kind of gingham, which is going to look a little dull no matter what you do.

Loving the ensemble.  Maybe better hair styling is in order.

IN…it’s a simple, pretty look.  Not all that fond of the puffy hips, but she can pull it off.

  • Christopher

More In than Out….. Maybe a belt that compliments the shoes?

  • Anonymous

Maybe a skinny coral belt to pick up the shoe color?  It does seem plain.  But then, what the hell do you wear in front of hasmat yellow?

A statement cuff would have gone a long way, but she still looks fabulous despite the dreadful backdrop. IN

The shoes making it and IN. The hair makes it an Out. So the result is a little in and a little out

  • Eric Jacobs

I LOVE this look!  The dress (especially when combined with the background she’s dealing with) is statement enough, and with the added benefit of those killer shoes, she’s working this out!  The only thing I could see working with this this is a colorful clutch, but I don’t think that’s even needed. IN

She’s Marion Cotillard. She’s in Dior. IN.

  • katie

are you kidding?! she’s gorgeous! I don’t care for the hair in the first picture, but it looks really pretty from all other angles. shoes are killa! IN.

  • oohsparkley!

IN!  I love, love, love it!

  • Ass Kicking Adviser

Springtime lunch event. Perhaps brunch during Cannes?
Not a total out, but as you said, lacking ‘oomph for the purpose for which it was intended.

  • murt

IN but I hate the shoes.
