In or Out: Alexander Skarsgård in YSL

Posted on October 06, 2011

What the hell; let’s do a boy for the ol’ In or Out.

And yes, that was deliberate.

Alexandre Skarsgard in YSLAlexander Skarsgård attends the premiere of “Melancholia” during the 49th annual New York Film Festival in Yves Saint Laurent.

Alexandre Skarsgard in YSL

Alexandre Skarsgard in YSL

There’s a lot to love here. We’re talking about the clothes, but if you want to love the man, you go right ahead while we run down the look. This is a really great color scheme. Love that taupe, brown and gunmetal grey combo; very autumnal and masculine. It’s a thing right now to do the matchy tie, but we’re not much of a fan. We find ourselves wishing there was a little more contrast between the tie and the suit. LOVE the shoes. But what troubles us here is the fit. The pants are near-perfect; the jacket, less so. He’s standing ramrod straight with his arms at his side and it’s still pulling slightly across his midsection. In addition, the sleeves and the length of the jacket are a couple centimeters too short and we should be able to see his shirt cuffs, but we don’t. Basically, he looks like he’s afraid to move or he’ll rip something, which is kind of a shame, because it’s Alexander Skarsgård in Yves Saint Laurent. You would think that’d be a no-brainer.

Vote Now!
IN! He’s like ELEVEN FEET TALL, you bitches! Stop ragging on the fit!

OUT! Swedish Frankenstein.

The vote on Sarah Jessica Parker’s “I’m just running out to get the paper” look was: Hair and Makeup: IN; Everything Else: OUT. You bitches are getting awfully specific.

    So very in.

  • DH

I can’t look at him objectively. IN.

    • Sobaika Mirza

I know, right? I tried and failed. In.

    • Anonymous

Me too. The second I saw him I was like “YES DEAR GOD YES SO IN”. And then, “Oh, wait, is he even wearing clothes?”

      • Anonymous

In, but more in if he were NOT wearing clothes, amirite?

    • Right!

  • Picky, Picky! IN. Swedish model.

  • I don’t even need to see the photos to know the answer: IN.

  • Love this. But again, like many of the men you post in suits on this blog, a) they could dress in a paper sack and it would be fine, and b) the clothes would look better crumpled on the bedroom floor!

  • Brian Lipinski

I think this picture just caught him in an awkward pose. For me, this is an obvious in.

  • Anonymous

He’s got one of those fascinating faces that I can’t tear my eyes from; I hardly ever look at his clothes.

That said, the jacket is a skosh tight.

Still, IN, Scandinavian Frankenstein critter or no.

  • Anonymous

While I agree the jacket is too tight, the pants are perfect, I love the colors on him and he is Alex and as such is the embodiment of male perfection and so therefore he gets an IN.

  • Sara__B

The fit on the jacket could be a lot better, and the shirt collar could be a little taller, but the overall picture is still a definite IN.

  • Anonymous

too tight. he needs to take it all off immediately!

    no, really.

    Oh ok, IN.

  • The tighter the easier it is to rip off.

  • Terence Ng

In. It really is remarkably well thought out and put together. His eyes look twitchy though…IN.

  • Anonymous

IN.  Oh wait, am I suppose to be looking at his clothes?

  • In? Out? In? Out? In? Out? In. Out. In. Out. In. Out.

    Sorry…I got really distracted. *blush*

    In! In! In!

  • sdf

  • IN.  He looks great.

  • IN!
He looks perfect, top to bottom.
And he’s gorgeous, which of course has NOTHING to do with my assessment.

  • Oh, so IN. Nothing like a nice tall drink of water to wrap up the morning.

  • Nice colors, but he always looks best when he’s strutting his Swedish meatballs in Tom Ford.

  • Anonymous

It’s perfect, but he looks like he’s made out of wax because of the awkward pose. IN.

  • My eyes just keep being drawn to that too-tight, too-short jacket.  In, but reservedly.

  • Heather Eberly

It is kind of odd that you can’t see the shirt cuffs. ASkars is one of the few men who almost always get that part right. But, for a good hem, a nice color combo, and great shoes, I can forgive the less than stellar fit on the jacket. So, in, but I’ve seen him look better.

  • Barbara Woodruff

IN: He’s like ELEVEN FEET TALL! For a man of his height and wingspan to have shirts and jackets that fit properly, he would have to have them custom tailored for him personally. Which a company like Yves Saint Laurent could probably provide for him, but I bet that would be super pricey even by high fashion standards.

    • Can you say 7500 dollar suit?

      • Come on!

        • At the Couture level, that’s what we’re talking about, yeah.  Scary, but true.
In women’s wear, a day time suit is likely going to be in the 5000 dollar range.

        • You beat me to the Gob!

  • Aside from it being a skosh too small, IN.

  • Suitcase Gnome

He: in. The clothes: Look too small.

  • Anonymous

    I think he looks swell…

  • Denise Robinson

    So very in…

  • Wrenaria

  • Anonymous

I guess I am the only woman in the universe who thinks he looks like a replicant… or an alien.  He looks manufactured.

    • Anonymous

No, I agree.  Although the stiff pose furthers that feeling.

Plus, that color combo … matches his hair and eyes.  Too matchy – matchy. I may be going off the rez to say this, but I do NOT like that combo at all.

      • I don’t like that color combo either.  It may be the lighting but the taupe reminds me of the ugly mustard yellows that Dwight wears on The Office.

  • Julie Fountain

IN IN IN IN.  Sweet Jesus he looks fantastic.

  • Anonymous

  • Anonymous

He should take off his jacket, let’s see if the shirt fits and if it doesn’t then he can take off his shirt – the tie is optional.

    • Anonymous

This reminds me of The Women when Joan Crawford’s character says something like “When something I wear doesn’t please Stephen, I take it off.”   For that reason alone I kind of want to give him an out.

  • Anonymous

In. He looks stunning. I noticed the scared arm posture right away, but it’s an amazingly gorgeous look and I’m not even hot for him.

  • MilaXX

IN! Brown and gray is one of my favorite color combos for the Fall/Winter

  • Anonymous

Out. Love the clothes in concept but fit is off and makes him look hippy. How is that even possible?

  • Kim Sheehan

I’m sorry, what’s the question again? I get distracted by the perfection of his face.

    • This. Exactly. Who cares what he’s wearing? *fans face*

  • Hmmm, I see your point about the jacket, but I still think he’s a pretty solid in.

Also, I’m happy to take HIM in anytime.

  • Anonymous

So very IN. The fit on the jacket gives him a high waist. I don’t care. Just take the damned thing off, dahling.

  • Anonymous

You are right about the fit, but it’s hard to focus on that.  IN

  • Aly Light

Why is this a question?! IN.

  • IN – and not just for his face and body. Seriously, the suit looks fantastic, although there are a few minor questions about fit. He could do better, but this is definitely in.

  • Anonymous

I think he looks a little like Carson Kresley (sp?)

    • Anonymous

Awwww. Now I’ll never get that out of my head. Dang!

  • Anonymous

Alexander Skarsgard = in AND out. And in. And out. And in. And out…
Sorry, I can’t think straight around this man.

  • Judy_J

Love the color scheme, but you’re right…the fit of the jacket is not right.  However, the rest looks pretty darn good.  I give him an IN (literally and figuratively).

  • Anonymous

I think he’s pretty hot, but I think his father is even hotter. Love the shoes and him, but I’m kind of meh on the rest. But he’s so lovely to look at, he gets an IN.

  • Alora Vegas

I don’t care what he wears. IN.

  • this is so easy to fix – just take off everything.

  • If it’s the too-small jacket that’s making him stand up straight instead of
slouching over like he always does in True Blood, then it might actually be
    doing him a favor :).

  • Anonymous

In – Pour me a cup of that Skarsgard!

  • I barely know who this guy is, but he’s insanely good looking and looks fine in a suit, even one with a slightly too small jacket. IN

Is “Skarsgard” the “Smith” of Sweden? Every time I turn around, there’s another one popping up.

  • Anonymous

    IN, so so so In.

  • Love him, but he’s got crazy eyes.

  • Anonymous

It looks like the jacket is shrinking on him!

  • Anonymous

IN. I find myself hypnotized by the fact that his shirt matches his hair and his suit matches his eyes.

  • Joyce VG

It should be an IN but he looks so uncomfortable so OUT.

  • Nothing could every be wrong with ASkars. So much in.

  • Anonymous

Love that shirt with the suit and tie! Can I roll in the leaves with him??  Ummm, I meant IN.

  • if i say out, does that mean he has to take off all his clothes? 😀

  • Anonymous

The things you do to me, Mr. Northman…

  • Anonymous

    IN! Love the color scheme.

Although I will concede that it is weird that we can’t see his shirt cuffs.

  • Lauren Maier

TLo, sometimes you guys expect too much.  Definitely IN!

  • Anonymous

He does look really awkward and uncomfortable, and the cuff not showing really bugs me, especially since the sleeve is a tad short.  I think overall it’s kind of drab, but I can’t find anything so off putting to warrant an OUT…so he just get’s an uncomfortable and drab IN from me.

  • Anonymous

IN, but the jacket fit, esp the sleeves, is bugging me.

  • Jenna TL

He’s only standing so awkwardly because he knows hordes of women will eventually be looking at the pictures and imagining doing unimaginable things to him.

On a tangent, I’m sad you guys never posted about what he wore at TIFF, it was the most beautiful suit I’ve ever seen.

  • Anonymous

The fit could be slightly better, but he looks DELICIOUS. IN.

  • Anonymous

IN. I love a man in good shoes.

  • Geno Boggiatto

IN – but I think he would look better with…. nothing.

  • Anonymous

I’m giving him an IN because I love this color story – it’s the first thing that popped out of my mouth. Now, if the first thing I say is “I love that color combo” when looking at a picture of AS, you know it must be a good look. He is perfection and I love the way he gazes into the camera…into my soul!!! OK…sorry. *ahem* IN – although I do wish the jacket fit better.

  • Anonymous

Are you screwing with us??   IN,  no question.

  • In, the jacket is a tad too small, but the rest is just so snappy and right.

  • I love that he never shoves his hands in his pockets on the red carpet.  That said, he has been working out insanely for whatever he’s been filming lately, and I think it is affecting the fit of his suits. I know this because, yeah…

  • Anonymous

It may not be textbook perfect, but he (or his stylist) obviously put a lot of work into this look and it shows.  I just wish he looked more relaxed and happy because he is really a nice looking man.  IN

  • Anonymous

I’m mostly loving the fact he’s dyed his hair back to blond. It even goes with the color palette!

  • Anonymous

I actually don’t love the color combination but he still looks great. IN!

  • Vaniljekjeks

In.  Although he would be much better without all the clothes.

  • Anonymous

    SO IN.

  • Anonymous

    The suit is too small.

  • Anonymous

I think the pants are a bit too short, as well as the jacket being a smidge too small. And he really doesn’t do it for me, but still, he looks pretty good. IN.

  • Anonymous

Geez, I just hope that isn’t a short-sleeved shirt on him, which would explain why we can’t see the cuffs.  That said, the jacket simply doesn’t fit him right.

  • Anonymous

Are you sure this isn’t the Madame Tussaud’s wax figure version? He looks so…poseable doll…but a hearty IN for the Viking.

  • Anonymous

Aside from the posing, Ken Doll here is almost perfect. Points off for the slightly tight jacket.

But, hell, even Mr. Wormald of the previous post is more natural on the red carpet.

    A reluctant In.

  • Anonymous

The. humans. are. dead. but. he. is. in.

  • IN

  • Anonymous

THIS is where the awkward is.
but he rocks it anyway even with crappy background.
IN for his tired but sexy sexy self.

  • Anonymous

Ok, yes, his jacket is too small.  But he still looks fantastic, if you ask me.  IN.

  • Anonymous

Out: fit is the ultimate crime.

  • Anonymous

I feel like he was totally in the middle of doing something doofusy with his arms and got caught. Which just makes him all the more adorable and IN.

And now I shall go imagine him in Asgardian glory as my personal headcanon choice for Balder should he show himself in Thor 2. Skarsgard is like the perfect middle ground in terms of body type between Hiddleston and Hemsworth. Mroowwrr to that threesome.

  • IN. Even though the sleeve length is giving me TLo-Brand Eye Twitches.

  • sweetlilvoice

He’s hot, always. In, look at that tiny waist!

  • Anonymous

He looks good, small issues.  In.

However, he almost looks like a wax figure of himself.  No life in the eyes.

  • I love this suit on him–please never leave or forsake us, ye slim-fit suits!

I must quibble with the taupe-y colored shirt on a someone with this skin coloring–
it makes him look terribly washed out.

  • Anonymous

He’s like ELEVEN FEET TALL, you bitches! Stop ragging on the fit! IN! IN! IN!

  • IN…(although I am a bit biased cause he’s hooooot…shame on me) Minor changes would make him perfect. And do we really want that ladies? Knowing that a perfect looking man is out there but sooo out of reach?

  • Absolutely agree–perfect except the jacket is a skosh small.  Still an obvious IN, though.

  • oohsparkley!

IN.  He makes me drool and fantasize.  Maybe his tailor isn’t the greatest, but he looks delicious.  The minor tailoring issues aren’t bothering me in the slightest.

  • Jessica O’Connell

While I hear you… they’re minor qualms with a near perfect look. IN.

  • Anonymous

IN, but I agree with your critique of the fit on the jacket.

  • just a little too tight, the sleeves a bit too short. Makes you want to pull them down and fidget all the time. So out. I mean, geez, guys don’t have much to do except get their shit to fit.

  • In, but he needs a better tailor and a lesson on posing.

  • Anonymous

I’ve never paid much attention to the details of a man’s suit, so maybe this is a really dumb question, but is there supposed to be a crease on the front of the sleeve?  I think he looks great except that the jacket is a bit too small, and I love the colors.

  • Paige Hinson

    IN IN IN

  • In for me.  I actually like the matchy tie – it seems to pull the look together.

  • In. I really don’t care how tight his suit jacket is, because everything else is perfection, up to and including his face.

  • He’s IN.  If everything fit right, he’d be DANGEROUSLY IN.

  • Anonymous

oh god what are you talking about IN

  • He will always be IN for me. Thanks for the eye candy!

  • So so very in. My god this man is beautiful

  • Alexander would look so much better in me…

  • Pure IN. What flaws??

  • Anonymous

Oh I have to give an IN because it’s not a black suit with black shirt and tie, it’s grey and brown and yummy and is he really that tall?

  • In (please).

  • Anonymous

The man is In, the look is Out. The fit is awful, like he had a growth spurt and his mom was able to let down the pants, but couldn’t do a thing about the jacket. The shirt color is not flattering to him; it’s too muddy. Clearer tones would look better.

  • In in in!

  • Anonymous

He’s in…but the cut of that suit is SO VERY OUT. Ill-fitting and uncomfortable immediately came to mind as soon as I opened the post. Sorry ASkars, You’re OUT. (But I still love you, ok? See ya tonight!)

BTW it’s so crazy to me how much he looks like his dad in these pics. Oh, and he needs a haircut.

  • OUT – sorry. The shirt matches his hair, the fit is far from perfect, and while the color palate is strong it’s a little too faded to have the strong impact he needs.

  • Eclectic Mayhem

  • Anonymous

    You know what’s a no-brainer?

    IN! 🙂

  • Anonymous

Oh, I’ve been generous lately so I’ll let it slide by with an in. But (maybe because he’s just not wispy enough to be my type, & too pretty in the face to be broodingly handsome) the fit on the jacket does bother me.

I like the colors, the shoes & the fact that he looks good in a suit.

His eyes also look really tired.

    • Jenna TL

He’s had those bags under his eyes since he was a little kid.

  • In.  Though he looks incredibly awkward.

    • Anonymous

Agreed. But even awkward-looking he’s still gorgeous.* Sigh*…..

  • Addicted2Glamour

I love the shoes but the fit on the suit is terrible. It looks like he hit a sudden growth spurt and couldn’t afford any new clothes. OUT. Oh, and BTW, this man owes me $10.50  and two hours of my life back for that horrible movie I got suckered into seeing a few weeks ago.

  • In, but I think I would have preferred a different shoe.

  • It pains me, because I am secretly in love with him, but I have to give him an OUT.  “Swedish Frankenstein” almost made me spit tea all over the keyboard!!  So true!

  • Anonymous

    Very in.

(and I am very not objective. The only reason I can speak to the clothes he’s wearing is because I had to plan toe-holds to climb him like a tree. And they’re very stylish climbing materials.)

  • He looks a bit like an android, but it’s an IN.

  • Anonymous

The jacket is a poor fit. But everything else is lovely. IN.

  • Anonymous

I wouldn’t have thought that I would like taupe and dark gray together, but what do you know, I do!  IN for sure.

  • Anonymous

  • Never watched True Blood. He looks stiff and uncomfortable and typically nordic, like he just discovered suits are styled very tight these days and wishes he was elsewhere.  Does nothing for me.

  • 14a

    The sex. In.

  • Anonymous

IN!  Love the color combination though agree that the jacket is a bit smallish in places.

  • His daddy, in his heyday, was a lot hotter.  I’m just sayin’.

I do like the color combo, though.

  • I think this is the first time I’ve ever actually found him really attractive. IN.

  • OMG so hot. IN

  • tom

In- I see the problem with the fit but the color combo and the style of the suit itself work for me.

  • cheesepuff74

  • Caitlin Gozdecki

In- love the color combo of the suit. it would look even better on my bedroom floor…

  • Out, but I have to admit I sort of thrummed with pleasure when I saw him. Lust.

  • Anonymous

In general he’s a little too thin for me and I agree about the fit but I will give him an IN because at least he made a good effort.

  • Anonymous

    All the way IN

  • Anonymous

So Perfect!  In!  And  thankgawd he doesn’t have his hands in his pants pockets!

  • Anonymous

I cannot give him anything but an IN.  My lady-parts wouldn’t stand for it.

  • Samantha Irene

To be specific – In if you can’t see below the elbows… otherwise the arms are just so awkward – Out – though it is a lovely suit

  • Anonymous

    In. His Viggo-ness warms my…um…heart.

  • IN. Could not possibly be more IN….INININININININININ

  • Anonymous

Is this a real human or a mannequin?  He looks great but so stiff, like if you pushed him a little he would topple over.   Love the colors and it is a beautiful suit so I’ll give him an In.

  • Eric Northman is a very hot smoking IN.

  • Anonymous

love the color combo, but not on him. the shirt makes him look like he’s coming down with the flu.

the fit is off and the proportions are weird. he should stick with Tom Ford.

Finally, I feel better about my Askars obsession now that I know I’m not alone.

  • AC

While I agree with what you’re saying TLo, I think the issues with the fit and the cuffs are minor quibbles. I say IN! He looks faboosh!

  • R. L.

Out.  All he had to do was get a good fit and he would have been in.  Colors are great, he’s a hunk, shoes were fine.

  • IN. IN. IN. (three votes?)

  • Anonymous

IN! love YSL, and it “suits” him

  • Anonymous

I cannot be objective, he is IN.

  • Anonymous

Out for fit, but JUST because that color schem looks beautiful on him. A suit that can give Alexander Skarsgard granny hips is some kind of wonky ass fit.

  • Anonymous

Oh, come on, you guys. He’s damn near perfect! IN!

  • IN.  He gets right so many things that others get so very wrong, I forgive the fit.  And yes, I’m being lenient because he is so very, very gorgeous.  But seriously, he makes middling little mistakes whereas other genetically superior actors *cough*Angelina*cough* make enormous ones, so I don’t think I’m out of line.

  • Cathy S

He looks gorgeous, but now that you point it out, he’s looking a bit stiff like he’s afraid he’s going to bust out of something. But if we’re judging him as a mannequin, he’s in. That suit is fabulous. Since he’s just supposed to look pretty, he’s IN.

  • Anonymous

IN, because if you’re bleary-eyed in the morning like I was when I first looked at this, he’s still sex on legs.

  • IN.

  • In.

  • Tamara Hogan

Beautiful. I find myself wondering what he’d look like with lighter hair. Platinum Scandanavian blond. The Full Assange.

  • Oh what a gorgeous colour that shirt is. And the grey of the suit matches his eyes ever so nicely. So what if he’s standing like he’s got a poker up his ass? This is totally IN for me.

  • Anonymous

  • Anonymous

OUT!!!! because he is wearing clothes.

    Just kidding … IN.

  • Oh yeah… he’s so IN.  Where’s my vibrator?

  • Laura Osborne

In. What a beautiful man. I could stare at the photos for hours . . . I could care less about the fit of the suit, but I do think he’s wonderfully attired.

  • Anonymous

    IN.  He shaved!!!

  • Totally IN.  Next time maybe he can talk a designer into really fitting a jacket for his gorgeous torso…doesn’t detract from the eye candy

  • Anonymous

How on earth could this man ever be out? Unless he was going right back in immediately….

  • At first I didn’t like the color of his shirt, but then I noticed his eyes, which I’ve never really noticed before—so in other words, that color shirt really brings out the color of his eyes. I’m not really noticing the fit of the jacket. Also, yes, because he’s so tall, most jackets aren’t going to fit him as well, and it’s such a minor issue here. IN. I’d like him in me too. :3

  • Anonymous

GOOD LORD. Oh yes, jacket, please DO rip. IN.

  • Anonymous

That jacket simply does not fit, so out.

  • Definitely In. But I prefer him in blue…shows off his beautiful blue eyes. Loving the comments…made my Monday morning! My first (well, maybe not first!) thought is when God made man, this is what he had in mind…perfection!
