Harry Shum Jr. for GQ Magazine

Posted on October 25, 2011

Harry Shum is a blogger’s best friend. Because he’s such a little crowd pleaser that all we have to do is put up these shots from GQ, where he’s been photographed by Mei Tao wearing some really adorably chic little fall getups and mugging for the camera in that Harry Shum Jr. way, and we know the ladies and the Gleeks will all swoon. This is definitely his year and he’s making the most of it. Good for him. There will be diminishing returns the more he does these types of “Aren’t I cute?” editorials, but he’s smart to be rocking them while he can.

And the boy looks great in a suit.

    Too CUTE!!

    • Anonymous

      “Aren’t I cute?” Answer: YES!

      He just looks freaking adorable..

      • Anonymous

I know! I just want to squeeze his *um* …cheeks?!

  • Anonymous

Why oh why do they style these guys with the pants so short???  Are they expecting a flood?

    • Anonymous

I was wondering about that, too. Maybe it’s a response to the ever-present too-long pants that men wear.

    • Anonymous

It makes me think of the classic Dancer/ Actors of Hollywood like Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly – the shorter hem showcases those dancing feet!

    • Anonymous

Short – and narrow too! Like drainpipes.

    • Anonymous

I don’t know, because it is so not cute.

But at least they’ve cleared up the question on what type of long underwear men should wear under their suits (which I didn’t know was a concern for anyone other than Mormons).

      • http://profiles.google.com/h6davis Hannah Davis

I think it depends how warm you want to be in the winter. My skinny and cold-susceptible boyfriend swears by long underwear from October to April…

What a fun editorial! You ride that popularity wave!

        • Anonymous

I would have liked that long underwear shot a bit more if it had been with silk long johns. Alas, no such luck :o(

          Cute editorial!

    • seff p

In Asia – especially in Korea, that’s the style right now for pop stars and actors.  I HATE IT.

    • Anonymous

To show off those fabulous socks, of course! I want all of them. And Harry Shum, Jr. in those long johns.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JSGAZPEESHQT47ATH55GNOHHBY Erin

He’s probably not half my age plus seven, huh?  Damn.

He is CUTE.  He’s got that dapper, darling, yet-I-want-him air that Neil Patrick Harris and Joseph Gordon-Levitt do so well.

    • Sobaika Mirza

He’s 29. I was expecting 18 or something similarly young.

      • http://twitter.com/NC_Meg Megan

I knew Cory Monteith and Mark Salling were 29 but I didn’t know he was too! I was thinking 23-24. Wow.

    • Lori

Great comparison.  And like Neil Patrick Harris and Joseph Gordon-Levitt you get the feeling he’s a darling in real life too, and if he’s not I don’t want to know.
Love these photos.  They’d make great paper dolls.

    • Anonymous

I would never kick JGL out of bed, even though I don’t normally go for that super slender body type.  There’s just something about him…

    • Anonymous

And all of them are song-and-dance men as well. I think that has something to do with it.

    • Toto Maya

Damn. I was sitting here thinking, “He’s over 18 right? So it’s not pervy if I lust after him?” And he’s 6 years older than I am.

  • Anonymous

    again with the waders…….enuff already!!

  • Anonymous

Yummy. I will take one in every suit please. Leave the nylon puffy jacket though, impressive though it is he pulls it off with a normal blazer over the top.

    • Anonymous

Insane, right?  I’m not saying the look necessarily works, but on anyone else, a puffy nylon vest underneath a blazer would be hilarious.

      • Anonymous

I know! How does he not look ginormous???

They showed way too many suits that look exactly the same to me, though.

  • Anonymous

He looks great in all these clothes. Glad they were able to work in the obligatory ab shot. That has to be in his contract or something.

Is that camel Ralph Lauren suit the same one Timberlake wore the other day? If so, the way Shum is wearing it works much better.

ETA: He is way too young for me to be commenting on his hotness without making me feel like I need the full Silkwood.

    The end.

  • Anonymous

I like everything about this (especially that Tommy Hilfiger vest), and I’ve never watched “Glee”.  Thanks for a cheery start to my morning, TLo!

  • Jenna Kuhmann

I like the one where he is wearing the least amount of clothing.  YUM.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mary.nease Mary Nease

    I’ll be in my bunk.

  • Sobaika Mirza

Oh yeah, clothes are nice too.

  • Anonymous

Very cute. I like all the outfits and he wears them well.
What’s with all the short pants, though???
(And thanks for mentioning Glee for those of us who don’t know him!!)

  • Sara Cougill

I have a soft spot for slightly higher hems on guys who can pull it off. And he can pull it off. Plus, I like that they went the colorful sock route with the high pants. It provides a nice pop of color. It’s geek-chic. Or, I guess I should say gleek-chic?

    • Anonymous

Also love the higher-hem-colorful-socks look. It’s very early 1960s, and it looks very cool on slender guys with some style.

He looks great in this editorial!

  • Anonymous

He is just adorable. And, as I said the last time you featured him, what a beautiful torso!

  • http://profiles.google.com/laura.jane.ogorman Laura O’Gorman

That boy knows how to play the camera, alright.

  • Rand Ortega

    Oh. My. Dog!
Somebody get this guy a feature film! Stat!
He oozes sexy charm & likeability like nobody else.
I could watch him day & night & more night.

  • Anonymous

Jebus! If RL Black Label suits are $1600, how much is the Purple Label Collection stuff now?

  • Anonymous

Flood water pants look silly and too trendy imo.  If you’re gonna do it though, socks and shoes have to make a statement…as like done here.  He really has a knack for modeling and wears all the clothes quite well.

  • http://fafafab.tumblr.com/ fafafab

all the getups are fantastic, also, quite expensive

  • Anonymous

    swoon indeed.

  • Anonymous

The Hilfiger vest is adorable, and I so covet the Burberry double breasted peacoat! These Thom Browne shirts are also making me think I need to drop by the Thom Browne store….

  • http://pleasewelcomeyourjudges.com/ Brian @ PWYJudges

  • margaret meyers

He’s a great model — wears the clothes with confidence and flair.
Totally pwnes Timberlake when it comes to wearing a beige suit.

  • Anonymous

Sometimes he’s a sexass, sometimes he’s straight up mugging the camera, but mostly he’s just the right amount of adorable-hot.

  • Anonymous

I prefer his “aren’t I adorable” look to his look of deep concern in the previous spread.  If his abs are expose, though, it doesn’t really matter what he’s doing with his face.

  • scottyf

    Dear Mr. Shum

In the first pic, the copy reads: “A double-breasted topcoat will hug your body and keep you warmer.”

FYI: A husky, black middle-aged queen will do the same thing for a lot less money.

    Yours In Lust,

  • Anonymous

  • Eileen Mannion

Just glad to see him wearing socks!

  • Anonymous

He gives great face, and I love that unlike so many actors in a photo shoot, he’s not afraid to move his face and body.

  • Anonymous

Very adorkable. Love his expression in the second photo. Also love the bright socks further down.

  • Anonymous

Holy smokes, that is one good looking kid.

  • Jessica O’Connell

He’s too adorable… and, of course, they know their audience and got the all-important open shirt pic :-) sigh…

    • Alisa Rivera

It kills me. Like he’s contractually obligated to have at least one bare-chested photo in each shoot, even if it makes no editorial sense. Not that I’m complaining.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

He is adorable, and he really can work a suit, but I think those suits are way too short.  I get that it’s a look, I just can’t get behind it.

  • Anonymous

Just watched the video clip. He is every teenaged girl’s dream–a guy who can dance *and* dress cool!

Scratch that: That is every woman’s dream, isn’t it????

  • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

What’s not to love? Every shot is fantastic.

  • Anonymous

So cute.  And if the studio floods he’ll be ready.

  • Anonymous

    I’m torn.

Should Harry Shum Jr. wear suits all the time, or be shirtless all the time?

I must ponder this some more.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Deborah-Jozayt/100002949685297 Deborah Jozayt

He could take off his suits constantly for our viewing pleasure. Best of both worlds…

  • Anonymous

I’m really not a lover of double-breasted anything, but that topcoat is gorgeous. I’m also loving that Thom Browne plaid shirt.
Harry really looks good in blue. Every shade from the navy to the turquoise really complements his skin color. He’s a handsome dude.

  • Anonymous

He is totally gorgeous in that camel pinwale cord (tell me it’s not velvet, please) Ralph Lauren suit with the beautiful blue plaid shirt and gray tie. And who looks good in a brown suit anyway? Harry Shum Jr, that’s who!

After Glee is long long gone, I hope he is the one we still are seeing, most talented, and will only get better with age.

But seriously, GQ people, a puffy ski vest under a suit jacket? Really? But I love that Tommy Hilfiger stripey vest. Great to see colors on a guy in a suit.

  • Anonymous

    He’s a cutie-pie.

  • http://twitter.com/mookiepars2 Michael Parsons

The trouser hems are short so you can see the socks.

  • Cathy S

My god but he’s cute. I wish I could afford a Burberry coat. The one he’s wearing in that first picture is gorgeous. And I love that Thom Browne shirt. Fantastic.

  • Anonymous

    Sooooo Cute!

  • MilaXX

I feel like such a cougar swooning over this kid, but I find him hot.

    • Anonymous

Right there with ya, sistah. :)

  • Anonymous

Oh my god.  LOVE.  He’s so photogenic and he looks fantastic in everything!!

  • RocknLox

Why does he always look like he’s just about to fall over lol!

  • http://profiles.google.com/ballinger.jl Jessica Ballinger

    That video is super adorable.

  • Vaniljekjeks

    Isn’t he adorable?!

  • Terence Ng

Ugh, setting the hotness bar in the stratosphere for all us Asian boys. “Guh!”, I say! “GUH!”

  • Anonymous

I was scrolling down admiring the clothes when those abs came along and blew me away. Loving the looks. It’s just a shame summer is nearing here in Australia.

  • Anna Kane

Can I go and hug these stylists? They did Darren’s flawless photo shoot too, which I still swoon over.

  • Anonymous

I thought they almost forgot the ‘no shirt’ pic for a minute there.

  • Anonymous

He looks like a million bucks except for the shirtless photo in which his abs make him look like a zillion bucks.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_AYQCICXEN2CCDBFV5HED4Z2RUA Dee B

I approve of them sneaking those abs into the picture.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HREPOWNBVUBRIVPQCF3ST2IKDM Euphory

They should do more half-naked shots with him, just saying.

  • Anonymous

    Hooray!  Thank you!

  • Anonymous

    He’s such a hottee!!

  • Anonymous

Normally, slender Asian men don’t catch my eye in the oh so special way but for whatever reason, this man causes all sorts of movement on the pants.  He is just adorable and yet very sexy all at once.

    • Anonymous

Maybe because Harry’s not just slender, he’s built. ohohoho

  • Anonymous

He looks very cute. But why all the highwaters?

  • Anonymous

Love everything on him, but especially those red socks!

  • http://profiles.google.com/trashilove { edi } ilovetrash

i would have had a big crush on him when i was about nine or ten, right around the time i wouldve had a crush on the other one {whose name escapes me} that looked like emo hello kitty.

  • Mariah J

Oh…my…sometimes I wish I were a man if only I could look and dress like that. It goes without saying that since “Asian F” he is the best Glee cast-member

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

While not typically attracted to Asians, I find myself wanting to stalk this man.  Forget the suits…I need more long underwear shots!  Hello!!

  • Sara__B

The video is such fun to watch, and that man is so very attractive. Thanks for giving me a big happy Monday morning smile, T Lo!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

    Just adorable.

  • Anonymous

So smart to make the most of this time.  Maybe it will catapult him out of Glee when it is done into jobs just as fulfilling.

  • Anonymous

I love how the gratuitous shot of him in underwear and (more to the point) without a shirt is pitched as a PSA about how to keep warm in a suit.

    • Anonymous

      “Pants (in hand)”–!!

  • Anonymous

Finally! Some movement, warmth, and humor from Harry AND his clothes!

  • Scott Hester-Johnson

Yeah, waffle knits ARE too bulky.

  • Anonymous

The shirtless pics from the last editorial didn’t do it for me, but there is something about the caught-getting-dressed aspect here that is giving me fever. FEVER I TELL YOU.

  • Anonymous

He and and Matt Smith have about cornered the market on the skinny, cool guy stuff.   They’re both adorable and interesting to watch.  But I bet Harry’s got the better abs!

  • http://www.twitter.com/allforusophia AllForUSophia

I love Harry Shum Jr. Simple as that.

  • Anonymous

He’s cute as hell and his body is PERFECT.  He makes all these outfits look good, even the ones that would never ever work in reality (ahem, bubble-vest-under-a-suit).

  • http://www.facebook.com/markrt Mark Talsma

Why is he so perfect though.

  • Anonymous

If I were a designer I would be begging him to get my clothes on.  If I were in the room with him, I would be begging him to get out of them.

  • Anonymous

Not a big fan of that pant length, but love the argyle socks. He’s ADORABLE!!!

  • Jessica Stone

See? Bowties are cool. And he’s adorable.

  • Anonymous

The one where you can see his chest made me feel a little funny. He looks GREAT. So cute, chic and fun. Yay, Harry!

  • Anonymous

    He’s a STAH.

  • http://www.joannao.blogspot.com JoannaOC

A gorgeous man who can dance *sigh*

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1234087433 Jen Freeman

    He is so damn adorable!!!

  • Anonymous

Want the coat and vest from the first look. Or Harry out of them.  Either is fine.

  • http://twitter.com/theresaharnisch theresa harnisch

    He’s incredible.

  • elzatelzabelz

The pants length seems way too high to me. The ab shot is nice though!

  • Anonymous

  • http://twitter.com/nicolahearts nicole seligman

    god damn he’s precious.

  • http://twitter.com/calkuhn Cal Kuhn

you say the ladies swoon? the gays do too.

  • Anonymous

That’s some impressive styling and modelling to make a puffy vest work UNDER a suit.

  • Anonymous

Oh these are adorable! The one of him in his long johns!!

  • Wrenaria

The first outfit and the green suit are my favorites. Great clothes all around.

  • http://twitter.com/applecocola Stacy

Man, can he work the camera. MORE HARRY SHUM JR PLEASE. Thank you for finally being a hot Asian boy in a white-dominated industry.

  • Anonymous

In an alternate universe, my other self has his bod and abs and wears this wardrobe.

  • Anonymous

Red sock sweater vest is more Criss than Shum – he is adorable.

  • frankystein123

    WERQ it!

  • frankystein123

Definitely a role model for how young people should dress.
