WERQ: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Burberry

Posted on September 20, 2011

Hi Rosie! You go ahead and continue your posing while we talk.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in BurberryRosie Huntington-Whiteley attends the Moet & Chandon Etoile award ceremony to honor Mario Testino in London in a Burberry gown paired with Christian Louboutin shoes.

We just wanted to say that, even though you’re probably never going to win an Academy Award (or indeed, any recognition as an “actress” at all), we TOTALLY support your continuing (and highly successful, we might add) efforts to hit any public event looking like Marlene Dietrich, Joan Crawford (pre-1940) and Marilyn Monroe all made a baby in a lab somewhere and then trained it from birth to look and act like a movie star. Not a lot of public figures really know how to strike a pose like a superstar, but girl, you are WERQing that shit like you’ve got an internal soundtrack constantly playing “Vogue” at top volume. BRAVA, girl. BRAVA.

Wow. Is that some kind of fur coat she’s holding? Intense. Her eyebrows are magnificent, btw.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

How can you tell? You must have some crazy good resolution on your computer, because the only thing I see in her hand is some kind of beaded thing. All other details blend into the background.

      • Anonymous

It’s in the third picture down, she’s definitely got a black fur something. Along with the beaded clutch.

        • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

          Yuck!

          • Anonymous

Why yuck? I could be fake.

        • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

          Yuck!

  • http://twitter.com/hmbscully Wendy

I think I’ve been watching way too much Doctor Who as my first thought was “she looks like a female Matt Smith.”

    • http://twitter.com/DifficultDiva D. Robinson

LOL. I love the drop necklace that she’s wearing. The shoes, not so much. I think she should have worn something a bit less heavy.

    • Anonymous

I’ve been thinking that all along!!

Then again, I’ve been watching entirely too much Doctor Who as well.

    • Anonymous

I’ve been thinking that all along!!

Then again, I’ve been watching entirely too much Doctor Who as well.

    • Anonymous

OMG!  I was just thinking that same thing!  Wonder if The Doctor ever had a sister?

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=564839755 Jillian Liszewski

There can’t even be such a thing as too much Dr. Who, can there??

    • Anonymous

oh gracious, NO. Matt Smith is ever-so-perfectly-beauteous and quirky-gorgeous. This girl is just – well, she looks like she was constructed at the Standard Starlet Factory out of spare parts. And the cheekbones here are at least partially the result of skillful makeup. Darling Matt Smith (who, though I don’t watch Doctor Who, is my Famous Boy Crush – he looks like he was made to my specifications precisely) has those amazing cheekbones thanks to the genetics lottery.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

That’s funny, I completely disagree.  I think she’s got a totally different, un-perfect look.  Her left eye is noticeably higher than her right eye, her nose is kind of flat in a Cameron Diaz kind of way, and she has an extremely strong jawline–and I think those unique aspects make her very striking and beautiful.

        • Anonymous

I agree.  She has a very unique beauty.  Not standard-issue starlet at all.

  • Anonymous

    I really love that necklace.

And let’s remember…all those ladies you mentioned had the goods to back the looks up.

  • Anonymous

She looks like a wax figure of herself. A bit stiff, but beautiful. Lovely dress.

    • Anonymous

My thoughts exactly! It’s kind of frightening to know that she’s a mere twenty-four years old.

    • Anonymous

Oh yes!! I am so relieved someone had the same thought… TLo praise was so high I didn’t dare contradict.
Actually, I went from wax figure to CGI image. Like when they illustrate what a combination of all modern beauty ideals look like in a face.

  • Sobaika Mirza

In this editorial she is will be portraying the old Hollywood icon of your choice.

Say what you will, but no actress can make this kind of thing work like a model.

  • Anonymous

I was going to say Carole Lombard meets Lauren Bacall.  Stunning woman, and I daresay most likely trained as a dancer for a spell.

    • Anonymous

      Definitely Bacall!

    • Anonymous

      Very old school, Veronica Lake!

      • Anonymous

Oh yes!  Definitely a touch of Veronica Lake.

      • Anonymous

My thought too – Veronica  Lake!

      • Anonymous

        Yes, Bacall and Veronica Lake.

  • http://www.facebook.com/charlotte.horseman Charlotte Horseman

She looks amazing – but don’t tell me those shoes don’t hurt!!  Ouch!   But, WERQ, indeed!

  • Anonymous

She’s pretty but she always looks like a snob.  The dress is great.  She really knows how to pose for the camera, and it’s amazing that she can when you take a close look at her shoe.  That really looks painful.  Maybe she is a good actress after all.

  • http://twitter.com/maggie162 Maggie

Looks fabulous, but GIRL! You needs to be getting some bigger shoes. Toes are not supposed to curl up like that, yeesh.

    • Anonymous

I think this is why she looks like a snob – she’s actually stifling a sob.

  • Anonymous

She looks gorgeous. The only beef I have is with the lipstick application. I really hate it when it goes straight across the bow of the upper lip like that. It looks like a mistake.

  • Anonymous

I think she must wake up every morning to spend 30 minutes practicing looking fierce before breakfast. Then she’s on auto-fierce-pilot the rest of the day.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

      You think she eats breakfast?

      • Anonymous

No, she probably just looks at it. That counts.

        • Anonymous

she breathes the air around it. close enough.

    • Anonymous

      I think I might try that…

  • Anonymous

Hollywood Star n.  cf. movie star / film star / cinema star; illustr. see above.

  • Anonymous

    blah, bland, boring.

totally middle of the road and lacking in any personality or originality, styling-wise.

basically the same look/styling she wears everywhere, which wouldn’t garner her a WERQ if she weren’t a model who knows her poses. personally, that’s not enough for me to get behind this WERQ, but i do admit that the veronica lake look is hers to own ~ and she definitely does. it’s just such an overdone style inspiration that even when it’s done really well, i think “too easy.”

it’s like when miranda priestly does her deadpan snark about florals for spring in DWP… “40s glamor for the red carpet? groundbreaking.”

  • http://www.facebook.com/WendyLKaufman Wendy Kaufman

She does not even look real. You sure that’s no a Tussauds’? Wow.
And yes, that lipstick across the lip bow looks like a mistake.

  • MilaXX

She does indeed give good face.

  • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

Meh. She’s WERQing it, yeah. But there is nothing interesting about this at all. Not the clothes or the girl. And the shoes– that’s some serious toe cleavage.

  • Judy_J

She looks like a department store mannequin; no personality whatsoever.  And not to be nit-picky, but I’ve never been a fan of the lipstick outside the lipline.  Pretty girl, pretty dress, pretty boring.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1248212910 Jessie Melcher Brown

Thanks to the background I keep hearing Killer Queen (Freddy Mercury) in my head…

She keeps her Moet et Chandon In her pretty cabinet’ Let them eat cake’ she says Just like Marie Antoinette

    • Anonymous

Thank you for pushing “When Will I See You Again” (from the “Precious Moments” post) out of my head…

      “She’s a killer queen/gunpowder, gelatine/dynamite with a laser beam/guaranteed to blow your mind/anytime…”

  • Anonymous

Lovely Robo Tron 41! Yikes! If her feet are hurting me, I can’t imagine what they are doing to her and those blisters.

  • Anonymous

she is a stunner… and the dress ain’t half bad either!!

  • http://profiles.google.com/christine.jain Christine Clark

I feel like you’re giving her a werq because her hair and makeup are pretty and she’s pretty. That dress is kind of yawny.

  • Anonymous

Marlene Dietrich was the first thing that popped in my mind.  She really rocks the movie star look.

  • Anonymous

Those shoes scare me.  I thought they were sandals and that she lost her toes in some freak red carpet accident.

  • Sara__B

Yep, she’s VERY good at what she does.

  • Anonymous

my feet hurt looking at those shoes. it’s a slutty boring gown with no interest factor aside from the naked body inside it. since I’m not gay, nothing here for moie.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IHWCJIMARF4OOW6PQZQS3RFOOA JillK

Now that’s a WERQ if I’ve ever seen one!

  • margaret meyers

    A really beautiful, empty vessel.

  • http://twitter.com/RobertSanchez36 Robert Sanchez

Yep, she can pose fierce and is bringing the Golden Age glamour.

  • Addicted2Glamour

Stunning, gorgeous perfection from head to toe.

  • Ruth Preston

How she can WERQ that particular dress without a bit of Meltyboob is a testament to…I dunno, hydraulics?

    • Anonymous

      or just flat-chestedness :D

  • Anonymous

One big thing she is pulling off is that the dress is right length and not spilling all over the floor.  She looks great.  I wonder what her voice is like?

  • Anonymous

Almost a WERQ for me, but not quite.  Needs a little more ‘tude.  She does wear clothes very well, though (smiley face).

  • mc90

Dear erudite, cultured, knowledgeable, esoteric, darlings–
What’s with the crazy spelling? I know everyone else is doing it, but et tu? I harbored illusions that you were beyond the trendy, beyond the werq-y. But love anyway . . .

    • Sara__B

T Lo wrote, in a post about Christina Hendricks ‘way back in February, “Darlings, let’s don’t call this an IN or OUT. Let’s just call this a job well done. Let’s call out a gal who normally gets it wrong for getting it just right this time. Let’s shout “WERQ, girl!” Then, in a post about Sharon Stone in March, “Darlings, we wanted to start a W.E.R.Q. feature to salute the gals who finally, for once, got it right on the RC. “WERQ!” is what skinny obnoxious twinks shout out when they feel that someone is, well, working it. We are neither skinny, nor twinks, but we are obnoxious as hell, so it’s a perfect fit for T Lo and their Bitter Kittens. In fact, we asked our minions to come up with an acronym for WERQ, and credit must be paid to loyal kitten Dr. J, who came up with “When Everything’s Right Quotient.” WERQs for us.”

  • Anonymous

She does look lovely. But what’s up with her hair in the close-up?

  • http://profiles.google.com/trashilove { edi } ilovetrash

& veronica lake, before the drinking & the hitler/maggot movie.

  • Anonymous

I’m not generally one for tall, skinny blondes, but RH-W is an absolute stunner.  This outfit is amazing–you can nitpick the fit of the shoes or *maybe* the lipstick application, but the sum of the parts is flawless.  Fashionableness aside (cause she’s got that down), what I love about her face is that amazing nose.  It’s not small, it’s not cropped by some Beverly Hills cookie-cutter surgeon, and it makes her look like a woman instead of a little girl.  And those gorgeous full lips.  Even though she’s like a foot taller than me, I’ve got a bit of a crush.

  • Anonymous

her baby doll face has always creeped me out slightly. But she’s just a underwear model wearing a standard dress. Not all that impressive. she’s modeling. Gasp. what a shock.

  • Anonymous

She is a beautiful young woman and certainly knows how to dress and pose the part but……. that is somewhat my lack of enthusiasm for her.  She almost always looks like she is acting the part.  Not that there is anything wrong with that but I prefer my actresses to have some life, some action, some humor in their presence, even on the red carpet.  I actually think that has been my issue with Kate Winslet of late (besides the too tight wardrobe)  She seems to have lost some of the “Kateness” that made her such a delight.  It’s more “striking a pose” and “look at how fantastic I look”.  I like the real girls…..

    • Anonymous

You mean you actually prefer your Starlets,  Defrosted?! Well, I concur with you on that notion!

  • http://twitter.com/beatricks beatricks

Is it not setting the WERQ bar kind of low for a model to show up somewhere basically looking like a model? Granted, I do dig the look. Her black velvet Tom Ford turn, which I spotted elsewhere today, also looked nice.

I’m thinking from the shine on them that they might actually be metallic, dark silver maybe. But they’re reflecting the black background. That would make more sense, to pick up the beading on the dress.

She certainly does know how to bring old Hollywood glam and she’s posing as if her life depends on it. WERQ!

  • Anonymous

    Glamorous!

Love it all. She even has the perfect shade of deep red lip, which seems to be a rarity (I’m still cringing from Cate Blanchet’s bright pink lips…ew!)  XD

  • http://profiles.google.com/thisiscelia Celia

Holy crap, she really knows how to work it. I wish she would lend an ounce of her style sense to Jessica Chastain.

  • Anonymous

There was a Broadway show a long time ago, titled “One Touch of Venus”.  The plot was that a sculptor was making a statue of Venus and he was so good, he gave it life.  When she came to life, she was in love with the sculptor–after all, he had seen every part of her body, gazed into her eyes, and made her the most beautiful and desirable woman around.  But of course, not being human, “love” is just a word and not an emotion: she doesn’t know how to proceed.  I’ll spare you the rest of the plot, but suffice it to say that Rosie looks like she just was awarded the part of Venus in a revival of that musical.  Goddess-like, gorgeous, perfectly proportioned, all in white, every man’s wet dream—yet, in the end, cold.

Totally agree with the WERQ; I just wish I saw a spark of humanity in her eyes.

PS: when the musical was made into a movie in 1948, Ava Gardner was cast as Venus.  Pretty sweet casting, dontcha think?

  • http://twitter.com/Ash2046 Ashley Wu

love the look in general but don’t dig the shoes, it’s like she’s having some toe cramps

She looks gorgeous in that glam old Hollywood way.  But honey, STAND UP STRAIGHT!  The slouchy shoulders are killing me!

  • Anonymous

This girl can werq it.  I’m impressed.

  • Anonymous

I agree with whoever below said she looks like a wax figure of herself.  She looks fantastic, but I also wish she’d drink a glass of water because she looks a little dehydrated.

  • Anonymous

She’s really gifted at STANDING THERE. But boy, ain’t nothing going on in the personality department. More like an oxygenated mannequin. I like to save my WERQ for someone who shows up inside the clothes.

  • girl crow

I don’t know anything about her but I love her nose.

  • akprincess72

    I just want the shoes.

Way way way too Stepford for me. Only thing missing is the Marchesa apron over the Burberry gown. “How was your day, dear?”

  • http://www.facebook.com/premal.laxman Premal Laxman

I thought this was her wax figure but I don’t think she’s that famous to get one.

  • Anonymous

She is really so “still” that I questioned for a moment if this wasn’t the best looking waxed figure I’d ever seen. She’s working her shit, no doubt about it, but she’s just so frozen looking.

  • http://twitter.com/rachelruthlee Rachel Lee

TOTALLY AWESOME. I like how she pulls off the siren look, even though she hasn’t got the curves of the 40s starlets.

  • http://www.facebook.com/suzie.vazquez Suzie Vazquez

Maybe I would like her more if she wasn’t in Transformers. Sort of takes a lot of the fabulous away to me.

  • Anonymous

Angelina Jolie–a real actress but a very shitty one–has been dethroned.

  • Anonymous

She’s like a Rachel Evan Wood knockoff. Not a WERQ because originality counts, and in the close-up, her hair looks scraggy and her lipstick looks wonky. Also, as mentioned by everyone else, she looks like she’s just come out of a plastics factory where she was constructed by singularly unimaginative hetero dudes. Wax figure is never a good look, unless, of course, you happen to BE a wax figure.

  • Anonymous

She is beautiful and has great features.  Too much makeup for my tastes — I am from the camp that thinks heavy makeup makes a person look older….but if that is the look she likes then work it.

  • Anonymous

Textbook. There’s a few stylists out there who should be sent a calendar of this girl!

  • Anonymous

She certainly does WERQ it!!..With all of the fuss over Christian Loubitoun shoes, I think I’m gonna paint the souls of my shoes red..and I’m a guy…..it’ll make everyone crazy….

  • Vaniljekjeks

All I remember from Transformers 3 was how she worked the fierce through the entire movie.  She is really something!

  • Anonymous

For some reason I find her repulsive. I think it’s the attitude, but I can’t even give anything specific. I have never seen any of the Transformer movies, or her acting, so I can’t even say it has to do with that.

Perhaps she is blonde skinny version of Kim Kardashian, and she makes me gnash my teeth.

  • http://twitter.com/enuma enuma

I am so over these down-to-the-belly-button plunging necklines.

  • Angela Green

She is eye fucking that camera like she needs the money to pay rent!  Good on her!

  • Anonymous

This may be the best I’ve seen her look.  Maybe it’s because they were light on foundation and let her natural skin (freckles and all) be seen.  She usually looks like a plastic doll with kind of weak features.  Here, she looks striking, and, despite being dolled up, relatively natural.
