Vogue Japan: This Joyful Promise

Posted on September 30, 2011

There is FINALLY a slight chill in the air outside the gates of T Lo Manor and you know what that means, don’t you, kittens? Or more accurately, kittens who don’t live in areas that are hot year-round. It means everybody excitedly breaks out the coats and the sweaters they’ve been dying to wear all summer even though it’s not quite cool enough for them! And then we all sweat together on subways and elevators! Fashion hurts, darlings!

Here’s your middle-of-the-day autumnal pretty, darlings: a gorgeous array of cool weather looks in the colors of the season, all laid out nice and pretty for you. If we were lady types, we’d cut a bitch for that MiuMiu coat.

    That’s a fun little spread.

That’s a fabulous fall coat (coat dress?), that Miu-miu mustard number. I’d like to see how it’s worn with clothing underneath, though. While the plunging neckline is a big part of tis coat’s charm, most of us don’t go commando in our fall coats. The envelope-ish orange Celine coat isn’t bad either, in a completely different way. But the sweater next to it looks like some nasty acrylic thing from Goodwill that would work well cut up for an Etsy-type repurposed handmade patchwork sweater. http://www.etsy.com/shop/Crispinaffrench

I usually get a large scarf to fill in that area or wear it with high collared tops.

that celine jacket has a similar ugly shape to Olivieureurerur’s  totally blech coats

  • Anonymous

Oh my god, this is incredible.

PS: I’ve been having dreams about my wool coats, that’s how excited I am to start wearing them.

  • Anonymous

I am dying to wear my fall stuff!!! But none if it is as cute as these pics :(

Visually stunning.  I’d cut a bitch for a few of those pieces.

Fall is my favorite time of the year even if I always get a nasty change of season cold in the process. Love the mustard color dress with the white collar, the striped skirt and the Jill Sander mustard colored dress.

Happy to see the mustard colors, along with some orangey tones.  Always liked orange, but it’s a scary color to try to mix, unless you don’t mind looking all Halloweeny. Just remembered: had a dark orangey cape/coat in the mid 1970s–shoot, it would have made a heck of an inspiration for last night’s PR challenge, and looked better than most of that schmatta.

I love that first coat so much. It’s gorgeous. The color and the shape and the white color. Oh my.

I really hate some of these clothes, but the editorial makes them look good.

    • MilaXX

I like the colors but hate fake muppet fur

  • Toto Maya

It’s still like 90 degrees outside every day here. Sigh.

  • Sara__B

Silly and pretty and fun. Now I’m smiling, and looking forward to getting out my coats and sweaters (even though I own nothing any where near as fabulous as that Miu Miu coat). Thanks, guys!

I don’t really like the clothes that much, but the spread is fun to look at.   I miss the change in seasons, that delicious breath of fall in the air.  *sigh*

Me, too.  Every fall, Mr. Meowing and I go on a 3-day trip somewhere to “hunt autumn.”  Usually we find one colored leaf, then huddle in a bit of shade somewhere, sweating to death.  sigh.

      • Anonymous

        Mr. Meowing…sweet!

        • Anonymous

He’d croak (hiss?) if he knew I wrote that!

  • Erin Nice

I think I’d cut a bitch for that Chloe skirt.

    • Wrenaria

       So would I. LOVE it.

I adore the silliness that is the Prada “Mod-Wookie” jacket.  Plus, those boots from the runway?  Call me!

  • Anonymous

Love the orange, and that Bottega Veneta jacket is FIERCE!

  • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

Forget the Miu Miu (that coloring would look horrendous with my red hair and skin color)…I lust after that Chloe skirt.

The photos are beautiful, but it makes me wonder if they should list the photoshopper alongside the photographer.  Let’s face it, they probably do more work than the actual photographer!

How many muppets died for the sake of that Prada coat????

  • Anonymous

    thank you. love the coat.

  • Anonymous

Drat that it’s too hot where I live for the Miu Miu coat.  Well, that and a few thousand bucks.

  • Anonymous

*wishing on a star for the striped skirt* I love stripeeeeee ….

  • Anonymous

The Duchess can say what he likes about candy corn, but I love the yellow and orange palette.

  • Anonymous

The road kill outfits are a bit much for me, but I love that first and last coat, the Celine sweater and that Jill Sander dress. If I won the lottery, I would totally buy all of them.

What did Chewbacca ever do to the people over at Prada, that caused them to skin him?

Oh and WHY is every designer copying all the Hipster stereotypes? Does the mean hipsters have to dress normally to avoid being on trend? Has the universe just looped in on itself?

    • Anonymous

My immediate reaction was, ‘Chewbacca needs to go home!’

  • Anonymous

I love the Jil Sander dress with the gold collar-choker and thin belt.

Say NO to Muppet Styling.  Say YES to everything else.

  • http://stitchingincircles.etsy.com Tina

wow mustard and bamboo really are the colors of the moment, eh?

  • Anonymous

Oh, I’d fight you for the Miu Miu coat. Lovely! The Abominable Snowman mini coat (3rd from bottom) needs to be burned, but the spread is fun and makes me smile.

  • http://profiles.google.com/ballinger.jl Jessica Ballinger

I like looking at the ads, but I kind of hate everything but that first coat.

  • http://profiles.google.com/trashilove { edi } ilovetrash

you guys, we do that here too, even in the hot zone. in fact, earlier today i was thinking about which coat i would break out on the weekend. now that it’s, of course, not quite 85 degrees every single rotten wretched day.

ps. i’d rather have the gucci & the prada. i loved that gucci collection almost as much as some of the old tom fords. &, from here & w/ no money, i can pretend no animals were harmed in the making of my fantasy, at the very least.

  • Lisa

So fun!  I like that the colors represent fall, but are still really bright.

The fascist dominatrix look is just cracking me up! A little out of place, no?

  • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

Mustard is not my color, fun spread, but I’m grateful I’m sunning beachside this weekend. Enjoy your cold weather, boys, I’ll stick to the white sand and surfers.

How did she get those poses? Is she on a trampoline? (which would be seriously dangerous in those shoes)

Speaking of shoes, I need those in my closet…ASAP.

    • Anonymous

I agree. I’d cut a bitch for those FAB shoes.

  • Anonymous

These are not my colors, but ignoring that I love the Miu Miu coat AND the Prada, opposite ends of the spectrum though they be. The Celine coat is nice as well.

The Miu Miu is so chic, and with its plunging neckline and 3/4 length sleeves, much more practical for faux fall. (What I’d REALLY like to own is an assortment of long leather gloves suitable for wearing with those sleeves.)

I’d say the Prada looks more like it came from a molting Yeti than either muppets or Chewbacca. But I’ve always loved boxy, handsomely ugly coats, to the dismay of mom, boyfriends, husband & friends with a eye for proportion.

Now that the blessings of youth are no longer on my side, I feel compelled to have more respect for proportion, but I still love that look.

    that Jill Sanders is AAAAAdorable

  • Anonymous

Excuse me while I run to unpack all my fall sweaters – I officially cannot wait until it’s cool enough to wear them here, although I fear nothing I have in my closet is as pretty as these jackets.

This is so much fun! Also, I love that little collar they added to the Jill Sander dress, it just pulls it together better somehow.
