Tibi Spring 2012 Collection

Tibi Spring 2012 Collection

It’s hard to strike that balance between luxury and minimalism and it’s even harder to impress two bitches like us when the attempt is made, but the Tibi spring collection offered a chic, pared-down series of looks that were sporty, colorful, and rich, with a little personality to them. We loved the pale blues and greens, the golden yellow and even the soft peach with coral undertones. We especially like the green, black, and white print, which was even more striking in person than it is in these pictures. Also love the low-slung ankle-length pants and the palazzo pants that were cut in such a way that you really had to look twice to make sure they weren’t skirts. The whole collection had a coolly sophisticated feel to it that was nonetheless approachable to the average customer in a way that other minimalist collections are not.

I don’t know… I like the print on the first look but I find everything else kinda boring, even with the bright colors that some have.

      pretty – clean – but…. can’t we buy most of these….anywhere already?

      • Sobaika Mirza

        Probably not this well executed.

So clearly menswear inspired, even the models were very androgynous

Lovely, impeccable clothes that actually look “ready to wear.” I feel I should be bored by this, but I’m not. Beautiful.

I am so frustrated by this unimaginative and underwhelming, collection. I love minimalism, even when Calvin Klein or Donna Karen come out with a minimalist collection there are details and design elements that entice the potential buyer. Little effort was put into this collection and it shows… it’s offensive! You can get the same pieces at  Zara or Club Monaco and get your money’s worth.

Not loving at least half of the colors used in this collection, but the cut and fabric of these outfits make me want to touch nearly every piece. Elegant collection with such beautifully clean lines – even in the flowier pieces. Makes you think (and I love clothes that do that!) about what feminine in clothing is. So I respectfully disagree with fellow minion Olechka Milashka.  To me these clothes are modernly feminine.

I like the long shirts and the jackets, and most of the dresses.

Looking at some of those tops… can’t help but wonder why Becky got slammed for her top last week???
And dare I say it… many of those dresses look just like my old Eileen Fisher dresses….

A runway collection isn’t a design competition. That’s why Becky’s top got criticized.

          Thank you for explaining that.

Since I only wear pants and mostly solid tops, I feel like I own so much of this already. I just didn’t realize I’m a minimalist. Now I feel better about my wardrobe.

I really like the uncluttered look and the colors used. I can’t remember the last time I saw gold being used without immediately looking dated.  Even the peach and grey looks fresh the way that it’s presented.  This looks like clothing that would be suitable and flattering to many women.

The problem I have is that I think everything looks good in relation to each other, when I see the entire color story, but some of these taken *out* of the collection are underwhelming.

I feel like this is what poor Olivier wants to be designing… but he’s not. The colours are gorgeous and they really balance the simple design so it is not boring. Love the blazers and every piece in yellow and gold.

This was my reaction too, “take notes, Olivier, this is how you do androgyny and minimalism without making your audience think they wandered into a caveman party hosted by the Bride of Frankenstein”.

“a caveman party hosted by the Bride of Frankenstein”   That made my day XD

Tibi is a relatively inexpensive line (generally classified as contemporary) and usually of good quality.  I like the slouchy pants in  the on-trend sherbet colors–sort of Calvin Klein lite.

True – I have a couple of tibi dresses that I got from Gilt group for under $200 (on sale of course, but still way more reasonable than other runway collections).  They are of great quality and I find that the fit is really nice.  I just love the saturated colors and simple lines.

    • MilaXX

I like the lines on this. Even though knowing me I’d have to bling it up with a fancy pair of earrings or killer pair of shoes, I like this. The black/green/white print is really nice as well. One of the few prints I like on pants.

You guys liked this?? In my humble opinion, it looked like sheets wrapped around the models, or really big, loose pants. Row 1, middle picture, and rows 5, left picture, are serious shower territory, And row 6, middle picture is particularly heinous. Just ugh. Sorry, don’t mean to be disrespectful, but I really find these ugly.

      I see a pee-pee pad dress!

I’m kind of underwhelmed by the design aspect of it, I’ve seen almost all of this before by CK and Jill Sander and whathaveyou, but I really do want to touch that fabric. It all looks so comfortable.

      love the prints and colors!

I’m pretty sure I want every piece in this collection except the two goddess gowns (and only not those because they would not work with my Oliiviereie-terrifying D-Cups of Doom).

    • Ella B. Mudge

This collection made me remember how much I love cobalt blue and black paired together.

    • Anonymous

I love a lot of this, too. It feels a lot more free and easy than many minimalist collections, which often manage to feel somehow heavy to me.

I’d probably add a piece of bold jewelry and would gladly wear just about everything here. Nice lines.

Is anyone else bothered that the diagram of the reproductive system is off-center on the printed pants? Distracting.

    • http://thememorexe.com memorexe

      I love a structured slouch.

    • Addicted2Glamour

The colors are wonderful but this looks like a sleepwear collection.

      • Anonymous

My feelings exactly. I love some of the colors (especially that beautiful soft aqua) but a lot of it reads like expensive PJs.

    • Mariah J

Too boring for a fashion show…eh.

    • Anonymous

I love Tibi, in general.  And the colors and movement of the clothing are really beautiful.  But I don’t think the shape can work for most women.  Yes, they are loose and flowing – but they even make these skinny models appear shapeless.  Not that I would want them tight – its just they don’t seem to be cut? tailored? in a way that is flattering.  Just my two-cents.

Strange that there’s only the one great print and everything else is plain and solid. Not that impressed.

These are very pretty, to be sure, but is it just me or is there not a whole lot of design going on? The fabrics and the colours are gorgeous, but the individual pieces don’t look all that new. I though there’d be one stand-out piece, but for fashion week it feels a little meh.
