PR: Judging the Judges – Finale Show

Posted on September 12, 2011

Ooooh, the ladies really brought their A-game to this one, kittens.

Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, Michael Kors, and L’Wren Scott pose on the runway at the Project Runway Spring 2012 fashion show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at The Theater at Lincoln Center on September 9, 2011 in New York City.

(1) (2) Michael Kors Fall 2011 Collection, (3) L’Wren Scott Fall 2011 Collection

Heidi: This is almost expected in some ways. It’s Michael Kors; it’s glittery pajamas; it’s Heidi Klum. And if there’s one woman who can pull off a glittery jumpsuit with a plunging neckline and harem pant bottom, it’s Heidi. But we have to say, this look manages to completely camouflage her slammin’ bod. Why would Heidi, of all people, wear something that made her look thick-waisted? Score: 7/10.

L’Wren: Brought the “DAYUM!” to the runway in the way that only a Mick Jagger girlfriend can. She is insanely tall and willowy and this form-fitting red lace dress suited her perfectly and made her stand out on the runway, even when standing next to Heidi Klum. Look at how she towers over everyone and then check out her shoes in the seated picture. She’s naturally that tall. Just for head-turning, attention-grabbing reasons alone, Score: 9/10.

Nina: She’s standing next to two former models. She’s wearing a pantsuit. She’s fucking WERQing it. That is NOT an easy look to pull off (just ask Hilary Swank), but she looks cool, creamy and chic. The other two ladies are doing their best to grab all the attention in the room, but for our money, chic trumps glamorous every time, especially at Fashion Week. Score: 10/10.

NINA FOR THE WIN! YOU SHOW THOSE MODEL BITCHES HOW IT’S DONE, GIRL!

God I love Nina. She makes the other two look like pretty trailer trash given the chance to pick a designer outfit.

      • Anonymous

I so agree about Nina’s hair. I don’t know who does her color but it is insanely perfect.

      • Anonymous

We all should look like such ‘trailer trash’.

        • Anonymous

In my case at least, oh so sadly true. But to me, even more proof of the Power of Garcia that she makes these genetically lovely and wonderfully maintained former models look (again, to me) unsophisticated to the point of tacky.

    • Anonymous

This is the second time in recent weeks that I’ve thought Heidi’s waist was poorly represented.

I hate when people speculate if someone is pregnant just because she’s looking a little thick around the middle, but Heidi has given four previous reasons to speculate.

      • Anonymous

but i did hear heidi announce after her last baby was born that “the store is closed”.   i assumed that meant she had her tubes tied.

    • Mariah J

For my money L’Wren Scott is sucking all the fierce out of the room. WERQ! They all look pretty damn good though.

      • Anonymous

I agree! And it’s not just because I’m a fellow Amazon Sister (just under 6′). Lady L’Wren is reminiscent of Lady Godiva, and in my opinion should’ve arrived on horseback just to show who’s who. :)

    • Anonymous

Nina looks amazing in that pantsuit, really, slammin’ great.  That same pantsuit on the runway model looks not so good simply because that model is super, super thin.  Look at the legs on those pants…  L’wren Scott looks pretty fab too, her height is so cool and I love the way she works her curves.
Heidi?  Ugh, that is awful. It is not flattering at all, that belt/bow/sash thing is just terrible.  I commented the other day, when this was 1st posted, that Michael Kors would be vicious to that if a PR designer sent it down the runway.

    • Anonymous

I’d give L’Wren and Nina a tied score at 9.5/10 each. Agree with Heidi’s score of 7.5. What the hell is up with her eye makeup? Her eyes look like triangles, especially in that second pic.

    • Anonymous

L’Wren is apparently from Jotunheim, and looks fantastic, but Nina does have that perfect quiet elegance here.

      • Anonymous

And there’s Fern Mallis behind them, too!

I wonder whose collections was walking then.

      • Anonymous

Thor references on TLo? My day is made! Sure, it could just be Nordic mythological references, but with the movie coming out, my little magpie loving heart is going with Thor.

But what about the fairest one of all?  (ie. The Duchess!)

      • Anonymous

With all that bronzer, the Duchess is starting to resemble a rotisserie chicken!

      • Anonymous

Ya know, he’s smart. Got the uniform, sticks with the uniform. Unless he gains or loses a lot of weight, has a hair transplant or goes to a costume party, it takes the obsessive public review of how he looks off the table. (I mean, look at how much time we all spend just on his tan!)

    • Anonymous

Nina FTW. Man, just look at her in the pic with all four seated – she’s gorgeous – all creamy complexioned, fierce haired and chic-ed out.

Don’t know what hair care products Nina uses, but she could give the other two ladies a tip or two.

    • Sobaika Mirza

Chic trumps glamorous every time? My inner tacky, multi-colored Bollywood queen just cried.

    • Anonymous

Nina for the win – she is just the chicest woman in the world. Is that her color or what??? She is glowing and thanks TLo for reminding us where we saw that outfit previously. Hilary S. looked good but Nina has that effortless chic thing – she never looks like she is trying but always looks best.
The other two are very beautiful but come on, talk about about trying too hard.’ Look at Me! No! Look at Me!’  Maybe a L’Wren and Heidi Amazon Cage Match is in order.

    • Anonymous

Is it a rule that former supermodels with reality imperiums shall be afflicted by continuous cases of ill-fitted jumpsuits?
Tyra, what have you done? And more importantly, do we have to fear for Iman?!

Her bitchiness in beige looks like a short-caped super heroine. And advertises the perks of shapewear. Gorgeous.

      • Anonymous

I was thinking the same thing about the jumpsuit.  Is there a rule somewhere about being an ex-super model and having to wear bad jumpsuits in public?

Nina looks good, but L’Wren looks killer.  She a long, tall, cool drink of water in a hot red dress.

    • http://heartprintandstyle.blogspot.com Vivi N

      Nina looks fucking amazing.

      The end.

    • Anonymous

Who looks this good sitting down? L’Wren and Nina, that’s who. Nina’s look is so sophisticated and soft. Her outfit is chic and her hair and makeup are PERFECT. Brava!

    • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

Oh you’re just sucking up to Nina!! I think L’Wren is the winner here by far. Heidi looks like she’s wearing toddler pants, somehow. Weird jumpsuit. Nina looks great but not as great as L’Wren.

    • Anonymous

It’s the jacket. Nina got the win because that jacket is f&^king gorgeous. I covet that suit and that colour is not even great for me.

    • Anonymous

Nina looks chic but she also looks HOT! Check her in the sitting down picture. Sexy. Her make up is perfect, so is her hair. I am in awe.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=552853133 Teddy Partridge

Heidi’s face shape looks entirely different from the lady who hosts Project Runway.  Kinda wondering if she and the Duchess used the off-season for some lift and tuck (would explain La Kors’ sunglasses, too: sir, you’re indoors).

      • http://twitter.com/mattharber mattharber

Many front row-ers wear sunglasses in the tents. Anna Wintour has probably never been photographed with them off in a tent.

        • Anonymous

Usually I’d say sunglasses indoors are an affectation, but between the bright lights and not wanting people to know exactly what you’re staring at, I’ll give the Duchess a pass.

On the plus side, we’ve never had to worry about where the photographs somebody was going to take of us today were going to appear while on the way to work 10 minutes late than we wanted to be, mentally prepping for a presentation and wondering if it was time to talk to HR about firing that new guy that’s not working out.  Having a less-than-stellar presentation on a busy day isn’t going to haunt us for months.

          • Anonymous

Today I ran out of fabric softener and dashed to the Family Dollar in my ratty t-shirt a pair of jean shorts and flip-flops.  I had no makeup on and I am not sure if my hair had been brushed.  No one cared.  No one stopped me to take a picture.  No paparazzi followed me.  The teen-aged boy checking me out never even looked up.   I love my life!

    • Anonymous

Nina blows them away!  I so wish I could wear colors like that, but they make me look so washed out (my coloring is like L’Wren’s).

Heidi just doesn’t look chic or elegant.  But, to steal a line from Kenley Collins, maybe she wasn’t going for elegant.

    • Anonymous

Hmmm – they all look good but I can find something off in each look.  At first glance I thought Heidi was Jessica Simpson.   Let’s just say that the jumpsuit, which I love, isn’t doing her body any favors.  She looks as if she has no waist.  Love the suit and love the color on Nina.  But draping that jacket across her shoulders like a cape looks ridiculous.  And I don’t like the fit of the shirt.  It’s too tight and consequently is doing strange things to her breasts and her torso.  Again, no waist.  L’Wren looks amazing – she must tower over the diminuitive Mr. Jagger – but the dyed-to-match bridesmaids’ shoes are all wrong.  And the very bright shade of orange/red seems a little too flashy.  However, I’d give her the win.

    • Anonymous

Not convinced about Frau Seal, L’Wren was working it, but Nina’s look said “Bow down, bitches!”

    • http://deeplyproblematic.blogspot.com/ RMJ12345

7 is way too high. Beyond the problems you’ve diagnosed, her hair is an effing mess (I see roots, split ends, and flyaways), her makeup and accessories are boring (that bracelet MIGHT be interesting, but I can’t tell), and that bow is tacky. And she has no waist. I wouldn’t give her more than a 4, and even that’s generous in the context of L’Wren and Nina.

Nina’s eye makeup is AMAZING, also.

    • Terence Ng

Second picture, hand on hip. Nina’s got it, bitches. Where is her mini-wind machine?

    • Anonymous

Nina Garcia looks unbelievable, she looks radiant and confident. I’d give her an 11 b/c she dresses/styles herself. Heidi 4 tops b/c that jumpsuit makes her whole body look out of proportion.  Like her neck, what is going on there? The only part of her body that looks good are her arms. Her hair looks fried. L’Wren, love the red on her.

      • Anonymous

Man, Nina looks incredible! Gorgeous color on her, the hair is perfection, WERQ!

    • Anonymous

After watching Nina leefully parroting Josh and Kors ripping on Becky as Becky hone-ecky and calling her OLD ( cripes she was what 35 when she got into designing?)  I’ll have trouble separating them from the evaluation.

And Kors – W T H is with the sunglasses indoors.  Poser move

    • Anonymous

Nina wins with the second pic. The jacket-cape makes her look like Supergirl. If there’s anyone alive who could pull that off, it’s Nina.

    • Anonymous

Heidi looks like she’s wearing a restyled janitor’s uniform. It’s been bedazzled and decked out with an ENORMOUS shiny bow.And it’s utterly heinous.

      • Anonymous

Hey maybe it was really designed by VortexClinique

    • Anonymous

The fact that Nina isn’t an ex-model and is the focal point of this group makes me grin from ear to ear.  L’Wren is stunning in that dress but I’m not a big fan of red stretchy lace.  I wish she had kept the original blue.  Heidi looks fairly ridiculous, like she’s in a sparkly toddler romper.

    • Anonymous

Heidi looks as if she has last night’s hair and make-up. Get yourself a comb girlfriend.

    • scottyf

Michael:Bold choice to wear his Tuesday black t-shirt on a Friday. The stain on his right lapel from the fajita wrap he had for lunch, was a missed opportunity for him to balance it out with some mustard on the left. I’m not sure about his choice of the black jeans over the ‘almost black’ jeans–I don’t know if it’s really on trend. The shades indoors? Who does he think he is? Madonna? Score 4.5965/10

      • Anonymous

what IS it with wearing shades indoors?  in my day, the only reason to wear shades indoors was because you were completely and unremittingly high.  High high high.

    • Anonymous

I love how Heidi and Nina are both wearing pieces from the Duchess’ latest collection, and meanwhile L’Wren is all “fuck y’all bitches, I’m wearing my own design and WERQing it!”

    • Anonymous

      I like L’Wren

    • Anonymous

Go, Nina. I’ve never been anywhere near that confident wearing that color, which shows up every physical flaw. Either Nina hasn’t got any, or it’s just that well made.  Is it in the ladies’ contracts that they have to wear Michael f-ing Kors so damn much?

    • Christina Brennan

I think it’s the python belt (because the runway version had a sleeker belt & an all around better look), but Heidi’s jumpsuit looks like something I would expect from the Kardashian Kollection. yech.

    • Anonymous

Whoops, didn’t finish post. I like L’Wren in the first picture, but that jet black hair is so aging if you’re not really young. She looks very harsh to me in pict. 3. Nina’s hair and makeup is the best, but I don’t like the way her tummy pooches in the picture where she is standing up – maybe it’s her posture.

    • Anonymous

heidi needs to get that belt as far away from her body is possible, and fast!  it’s making her look like a barn door all wrapped up for the holidays.

What you guys said.  Nina looks AMAZING.  That jumpsuit makes Heidi look shapeless, which, given her body, seems like an impossible task.  L’Wren looks fabulous, too.  Her legs go on forever, don’t they?  But as you said, Nina showed ‘em how it’s done.

    • Anonymous

Is that Fern Mallis sitting directly behind L’Wren?
Speaking of whom. I love her dresses. I wish I: 1- had the body for them; 2- had the money for them.
I completely agree with you. Nina wins, hands down.

      • Anonymous

Good eye. It sure looks like Ms. Mallis.

      • Anonymous

I thought that was Fern Mallis, too, but didn’t want to say anything in case it wasn’t. In any case, she appears to have fallen asleep.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_L6FKGKUXWF6QSWWYAHJZYKKI3E Adrian

I have to give Nina props here, but I wouldn’t give her a 10/10. That’s mostly because I don’t like the clothes so much, not because I dislike how she’s wearing them. My main objection – other than the fact that the monotone peachy color is just too much for an entire ensemble – is the neckline. It even makes Nina look like she has tits up to her chin, and she’s not a lady I’d have ever imagined calling “busty.”

    • Anonymous

I love the blazer/capelet look if only because it brings to mind something Baroness Schrader might wear in The Sound of Music.

    • Anonymous

Judging from that neckline (breastbone-line?), I guess we know who Heidi wants to win.

    • Anonymous

I don’t know, I almost always find Kors’ stuff so… blah. Either plain to the point of boring or bordering on his version of tacky (Heidi’s outfit would fall into this category).

      I’d give it to L’Wren.

    • http://profiles.google.com/dchockeyguy Trevor Burroughs

Sorry, girls, Nina is not a 10. Not in that color. You usually punish people for colors like that.It doesn’t stand out enough against her skin tone.

    • http://twitter.com/HotMessHousWife Sammi M

Heidi looks tacky, L’Wren looks glamorous, and Nina looks AMAZING. Easily the winner, hands-down. Flawless, flawless, FLAWLESS.

    • Anonymous

      Nina looks fantastic.

How do you pronounce “L’Wren”? Like “Lauren”? Or “Le Wren”?

    • MilaXX

Scores are about right, although I might also give La Nina a 9/10 because in that photo standing with Michael and Heidi the fit on the body suit looks a little odd. However both L’Wren and Nina are putting Heidi to shame. I think Heidi’s downfall is that leather bow. This jumpsuit needs a true waist cinching belt.

    • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I will never understand Heidi’s fashion choices. Sometimes she looks fabulous, but other times… well, it’s a sparkly black jumpsuit with the second biggest bow I’ve ever seen. She looks absolutely ridiculous.

L’Wren, whoever she is, looks incredible. But Nina takes it, hands down. It’s really friggin’ hard to get away with pants that color, but she manages to do it. I have issues with her, e.g. her comments about Becky, but I admit she knows how to turn it out.

    • Anonymous

L’Wren for the win. When I saw Nina I thought “Nice.” When I saw L’Wren I thought “Holy Shit!!” Don’t ask what I thought when I saw Heidi…..

    • Anonymous

Heidi, the 1980’s called.  They want their giant-ass bow back.  Also, Heidi’s hair looks like it was chewed upon by rats.  The L’Wren (c’mon is that a real name?) looked gorgeous.  Her make-up seemed kindof vampire-y but she’s beautiful.  Nina wins for me.  I want to be Nina when I grow up.  Oh and Kors looked – um – wait was he even there?

      • Anonymous

“chewed upon by rats”!!! I haven’t heard that phrase in so long! Thank you. It’s true in Heidi’s case. I am beginning to worry about her a bit. She shouldn’t have to try so hard, I would love to see her in a classy look.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001072175532 Mari Posa

Nina looks amazing and appropriately dressed for the time of day.  The show was 9:30am I do believe.  I’ve never been a fan of what Heidi wears on the show.  That jump suit is particularly heinous.  I’m sorry but I think L’Wren looks overdressed and like she tried too hard.  The black teletubby, oh that’s Michael Kors!, looks better.

    • Anonymous

Slam dunk for the gorgeous L’Wren.  She outscores the rest by a landslide (though I too would have preferred that gorgeous blue). Nina’s hair and makeup are perfect, but I am not enamored of the flesh-tone outfit. That Kors sparkly onesies just looks silly.

    • ALEX WILLIAMS

Isn’t M. Kors the last person working that look?  We used to wear it to work ten years ago on Casual Friday.  It is safe, but looks better on a guy with an actual chest…

    • Anonymous

Heidi’s obviously been taking lessons at the SJP School for Desperate Mutton Dressed as Lamb – fried hair, dark roots, unflattering centre parting, FAR  too much black eyeliner. And that jumpsuit is downright slutty, deeply inappropriate for the occasion and draws the eye to the one part of Heidi’s body that is less than perfect.  I’d give her a 1/10 at most.  It really is time she presented herself as a fashion industry professional and not as an ageing hooker.

The other two ladies are WERQing it.  And I’ve always wondered about sunglasses when watching runway shows?  How can anyone correctly judge colour while wearing them?  At least Anna Wintour can look at photos afterwards, but the Duchess has to make some pretty quick decisions about clothes he can’t see properly.

    • Anonymous

I’m shocked – shocked! – that Heidi didn’t pair THIS sparkly Kors jumpsuit with her new balance sneakers like she did in the new balance episode (when she wore THAT sparkly Kors jumpsuit).
I hate jumpsuits. HATE. HATE. HATE. And, though I love you to bits & pieces TLo, I don’t think you’d express any love for jumpsuits if there was a chance you might have to wear one (or be in the target demo for them).  Jumpsuits, when not outright hideous, are designed solely for genetically blessed models to wear, and for non-genetically bless mortals to feel bad about themselves.

    • http://profiles.google.com/richixcore Richi Robilotto

Nina’s makeup is so soft and pretty looking. It’s making her look just a little bit gentle.
Heidi’s face is kind of scaring me, however.

I’d agree that Nina brought if it weren’t for that damned jacket hanging on her shoulders.  I hate when women do that; I can’t even say why, just have never liked that look.  It’s like, “Wear it or don’t!”

L’Wren Scott showed how to look amazingly sexy and striking– without raising her hemline or showing her boobs.  Maybe I like her so much because she is one of the few women in the world I would have to look up to, but geez, she makes Heidi look like she’s trying way too hard.

I love Nina, but she CAN’T beat L’Wren here.

    • Now I am The Bee

Love, love LOVE Nina’s suit.  She is bringing the chic for sure.  Nina dresses the way I like to think I dress when I have to be out in public (well–without the million dollar clothes budget…)  Classic, quiet, elegent. (Although she does wear some weird stuff once in a while…)
Actually–I think Heidi and L’wren look very good here as well.  The best looking judging panel on PR in a long time.

    • Anonymous

I think Nina’s girls are riding too low and she needs a better bra.  I think Heidi would have looked great if she had gone with the matte pants and skinny belt

    • Anonymous

I’d say Nina has a landslide win when sitting, but L’Wren inches ahead when they stand all together.

    • Anonymous

I read a lot of the comments and no one commented on Heidi’s face? What did she do to it?? She doesn’t look like herself, at all!!!

      • Anonymous

A couple of the pictures look bad, you are right, and a couple look good.  Weird eye makeup I think.

      • Anonymous

I think it’s more than eye makeup. I think a major remodeling job has been completed.  A number of people commented on how strange she looked in the Shmemmy post yesterday–and she looks exactly the same here. I can’t put my finger on it, but it’s something to do with the mouth and jaw.

Well, Frau $eal–who really needs the money–has introduced her own line of anti-aging makeup, so maybe she decided she should make her face look like an 18-year-old cheerleader before she hit the road to flog the product.

I thought L’Wren’s dress was boring & a dress I’ve seen many times. I loved Heidi’s jumpsuit & Nina looked very elegant, I would have preferred a lower neck top on her though, she looked a little too buttoned up.

Ooh! An actual designer as finale judge! Vast improvement over last year. Maybe the outcome will be better.

Clothes aside, Nina completely trumped the other two from the neck up. She is hardcore glowing. And since they’re spending most of their time sitting down, that is no small matter.

    • Anonymous

I don’t like Nina’s suit at all. The top is too tight, I don’t like the fit of the pants, and the color is too washed-out. And the blazer worn over the shoulders just looks silly.

    • http://www.facebook.com/samuel.j.donovan Samuel Joesph Donovan

First ever T Lo 10/10!! Perfectly deserved!

    • Anonymous

Nina is incredible!  The best thing about her look is the way she has her jacket effortlessly hanging off her shoulders.  If I were trying to WERQ that look, the jacket would be falling to the floor every two minutes.  She looks amazing.

    • muzan-e

Biased: I was eyeballing a sweater knockoff of Nina’s upper half just yesterday, so naturally think she’s dressed flawlessly.

Biased: Nina Garcia is so delightfully no-bullshit that I’d circle her orbit if she was wearing a trashbag.

Don’t get me wrong, now. L’Wren Scott is almost irresistably statuesque, but.

      But.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

I think L’Wren Scott would have looked prettier in the neckline of the runway version of her dress.  Generally I think she’s fabulous, but somehow she reminded me too much of Kat Von D here.

I also had Nina FTW. She looks so chic and effortless.  Frau Seal disappointed me with that shapeless jumpsuit.  L’Wren (Lauren?) looks better sitting down where you can see the contrast of her pale skin and the fiery red dress/shoes

Nina’s boobs look amazing in that top. I can’t believe how tall L’Wren Scott is!

I am in awe of L’Wren as I am 6′ tall and I’m so jazzed that she is Sir Mick’s girlfriend – and that she is at least 5-6″ taller than he is! Well done Mick! Bet he loves those legs wrapped around him….

      NINA! Wow, she looks amazing.

Nina is totally FAB-U-LOUS!  What a gorgeous woman in a gorgeous outfit.  10/10 is right!

There was some commentary during the Design For Nina episode on why, as Nina stated, she never wore a bra.

      Check ‘em out.  THAT’S why.

Yes, yes yes!!!  Exactly my thinking

Nina wearing a blush pink pantsuit….FAINTS.  Bows down.

Heidi looks awful in that. Flat-chested, thick-waisted, wide-hipped. Triple whammy.
      L’Wren and Nina look fabulous.
      The Duchess is a yawn.

I’m pretty sure this means I have a very thick waist.  Shit…

Agreed – Nina rocks it and her “girls” look fab.  I don’t think I’ve EVER even noticed them!

Heidi: Every MK jumpsuit I see makes me think he has trouble designing, or possibly making, these. Every one I’ve seen the top is borderline exclamation points, and not fitted well, just as this one. A bit unflattering on top because of those. If Kors is going to be dressing these judges, or anyone for that matter, he better starting making more flattering tops, especially for the prices he charges. However I like it very much from the waist down, like the belt and pants, great shoes, and minimal accessories. I’ve been liking her hair all season, and here’s no different. Love the fabric. 8/10, I’m just ignoring that poorly made top, and imagining it well-made on her.
Nina: Love the cream color. Shiny top is becoming her uniform, but this one looks great. Love the jacket. The pants are good, but not exciting for me personally. She looks way better in it than that model wearing it in the photo. Hair; yawn, same old same old, not as many flyaways.  But overall great. 9/10
L’Wren: Amazon in a gorgeous red dress. Love her modified version. Looks terrific. 10/10

That dress L’Wren has on would be a floor length on me, God she is tall!

I just do not get how the Korsatron can STAND wearing the same thing each and every time. And does he always need to wear sunglasses at these events?
