PR Final Collections: Laura, Olivier, Viktor

Posted on September 09, 2011

All nine remaining designers showed finale collections Friday morning at Lincoln Center during Fashion Week. We are not spoiling anything regarding who will be in the Top 3 because we don’t know which of these designers are decoys and which aren’t.

Laura

Olivier

Victor

Is Olivier’s collection menswear inspired? There are some very wearable separates here, but that second look (black leather shirt, tan highwaisted leather pants) is just plain ugly.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JVRJ67CJ4WP52CDFVIPDBQF5GI Erin

Olivier is a menswear designer, so his collection makes sense considering his background.  Not that I like it, though.

What do you mean? Doesn’t every woman need pants with a 13 inch crotch in her wardrobe? Personally I strive for that mentally ill muppet look….

I can’t stop laughing at “mentally ill muppet look”.

        • Anonymous

I’d be laughing at Oliverrre’s collection but my jaw is still on the floor at how ugly he made his models. Seriously I’ve shot the 4th girl before and she’s totally beautiful. Yuck.

        I love you.

I think Olivier was originally a menswear designer.

Is Olivier a Scientologist? The Bert’n'Ernie eyebrows with the Battlefield Earth hair is seriously distracting.

I do love that first dress, even if everything else is the same old dreary sacks. I could see Heidi in that dress.

      Bert and Ernie eyebrows!  Yes!

I thought Olivier’s styling of the hair and makeup, especially the eyebrows, were reminiscent of that old movie “The Bride of Frankenstein”. If he had just added the streaks of grey on each side of the head, they would have been perfect. Loved his collection though. Very Olivier!

    • pacconci

His models gave off a Frieda Kahlo vibe to me.

      • Anonymous

That was my instant impression upon scrolling down to the first photo:

        Frieda Kahlo iiiinnnnn SSSSPPPAAAACE!
        (like the Muppet show skit)

Well, if there’s a new Star Trek series coming any time soon, Olivier is their designer and possibly their makeup artist.

    • http://nakki.livejournal.com/ nakki

haha, that was my first thought too! “did he mean to use vulcans as his styling inspiration??”

I swear, I was just informed that there is another Star Trek movie coming! So, Oliveeeeeer ya got a job honey!

I don’t think up and coming designers who’ve yet to actually garner respect in the industry should use this crazed, super high-fashion styling. Like those eyebrows, come on, can you say desperate?

  • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

BTW, on the fact that Olivier spells his name oddly for its pronounciation:  My husband, who is Chinese-American, said that it’s probably just because he’s Asian.  He said in Chinatown you find all kinds of weird English names and spellings because the ESL parents don’t really know what they’re doing; they hear a word and think it would make a nice name.  Or they see a word and mix up the spelling.  That kind of thing.

    • http://profiles.google.com/tiffanymlee99 Tiffany Lee

Hmm.  I figured that his parents gave him the French name on purpose. but somewhere along the line they realized that it was easier for everyone to pronounce it as plain old “Oliver.”  Or maybe people kept mispronouncing it until it stuck.

The internet tells me that his family is from Taiwan, which is more aware of European culture than some other parts of Asia.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Yeah, but that doesn’t mean anything — the people my husband was talking about all live in the US.  Or did you mean that because it was Taiwan, they would have been more likely to have heard the name “Olivier”?

        • Anonymous

Not to speak for Tiffany, but I would think both Asians and 1st generation Asian-Americans are more likely to have misspelled or European names. My parents named me Catalina instead of Catherine. My little sister is Monaca. We both chose to go by our Vietnamese names instead.

The worst Asianized name I’ve come is Wynbertsen. We called him Wyn, even though he was actually Fail (Fayle).

          Poor little misunderstood Olivierierier.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Essentially, from what my husband tells me (as I make it a policy to defer to him on all Asian-related matters:), it’s when the parents are ESL speakers.

Apparently some of the confusion is that names in Chinese (perhaps other Asian languages as well) are more like words of the same meaning than in English.  (For instance, Aidan in English means fiery, despite not sounding anything at all like “fire” or “fiery”)  I wish I could explain this better, because it really does make sense, I swear!  :)

My guess is that a lot of the European influence depends heavily on the specific nationality — for instance, Vietnamese people and those of Vietnamese descent would have far more European influence than Chinese people, because of the French occupation of Vietnam.  I have no real confirmation on that, but it would be logical.

          • Anonymous

I’ve noticed a lot of Chinese have unusual first names, & I always thought it’s because many Chinese last names are very common; that way they’re not 1 of 10 David Lees, Kathy Changs, & Michael Wongs in their school.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=46301928 Sam Branman

I have a friend (who is not a first-generation child, or Asian) whose name is Callista, pronounced “Callissa”.

    • http://twitter.com/at_the_close Alice Huang

That’s just perpetuating a stereotype and I find it offensive. A lot of non-Asian people also have weird spellings for common names or have names that are not pronounced the way they’re spelled.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I didn’t say only Asians had unusually spelled or pronounced names.  I said that my Chinese husband said in his experience it is more common among ESL Asian parents for their child’s English names.  Particularly since for at least half the Asian people I know, their English name is merely a nickname, since their legal name and often their preferred name is their Chinese one.  (I say Chinese because most of the Asians I know are Chinese).

It’s not a question of perpetuating a stereotype — I find it far more offensive that people are accusing Olivier of being pretentious or making up a name when such spelling differences are exceedingly common among Asians.  I’d much rather explain why his name may be spelled differently than it’s pronounced in a logical and understandable way than have his name mocked.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1017585103 Kanani Fong

A lot of  people do fanciful things with their names. Maybe Oliver did, maybe he didn’t. Maybe someone in his past had a mad crush on Sir Laurence. Who knows? I don’t really care! What does the spelling of his name have to do with the designing of his clothes here on Project Runway? The clothing each one of these designers makes are the sum of their experience, taste, aesthetic and style. And that’s all I really care to see.

      • Anonymous

That’s so true. Just looking at the list of PR contestants over the years, and there’s Starr, Stacey, Alison, Mychael, Kelli, Qristyl, and Viktor.

      • Nikki Douglas

there’s a difference between culture and stereotype.

    • http://twitter.com/at_the_close Alice Huang

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CEJXHLEVX5Z7S6Q3LZ2TDB5YDY Haruki Murakami

I think what you said is very insulting to Asians, I don’t think it’s because (Asian) people don’t know what they are doing. I am pure Asian I can spell perfectly. I think it’s just because people nowadays want to differentiate their child’s names from others and they add these little spelling differences in a hope to make the name special. I have friends whose names are spelled as Xylia (Celia) and Cherly (Shirley) and it’s not because they or their parents can’t spell.

      • Cheri Lee

Wow!  I am offended at that spelling of Shirley (Cherly)!

    • Geno Boggiatto

That sounds about right. A few of my Filipino cousins have CRAZY names, because their parents wanted to give them “American” sounding names, so that they would have an easier time fitting in… but oh goodness, the names they picked! Thank goodness they both just go by “A.J.” and “K.J.”!

    • Anonymous

If he grew up in the hood he might have been named…. LaOlivier….. just sayin! ; )

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZG3IKHJJJ6S7HNU7UXVSFKWIQ4 Angelo Valenzuela

Names don’t have spelling rules applied, that’s why they let people use whatever word they want. I think this comment is inappropriate and square, I don’t understand why you generalize every asian immigrant just because your husband told you a story; or why you think the american way it’s the right. Olivier is a common french name. French, English, Spanish, they derivate from latin, which is why some words seem very similar. I bet you are not from NY.

At first glance, these are pretty weird. But then, I wonder if Olivier was inspired by masculinity? If so, his collection is very, very interested from a gender/sexuality perspective.

Viktor FTW. That earthy print is gorgeous with both dresses and he used them perfecty.

I’m pleased to see he revisited the Rorschach technique, because I wanted to see a more literal interpretation this past challenge.  But it was Anthony’s idea.

I really love the second dress, although it maybe not so ground-breaking, I want to be teleported into it instantly.

While I bet it’s laura, viktor, and anya… I hope it’s laura, viktor, and kimberly.  BUT:  Monkey wrench:  Does O’evalier’s contain real leather?  If so… expensive, perhaps… signs of a finalist???  Just conjecture.

        • Anonymous

Me too, was rooting for Kimberly but the collection seemed to be missing something for me. Blogging Project Runway reported that Kimberly’s was the crowd favorite. I would put her in the top 4 though, definitely.

  • Anonymous

Laura and Victor have some really beautiful pieces. I’m leaning towards Victor now. Olivier is just not my style.

  • Judy_J

Laura’s collection is pretty, but somewhat boring.  I don’t even know what to say about Olivier’s…seems to have some sort of zipper fetish.  I’m not liking his stuff at all.  And surprisingly, Viktor’s collection leaves me cold as well.  None of these three are doing anything for me.

  • https://profiles.google.com/104791269167429064986 Judy S

Liked Viktor’s. Thought re. Laura and Olivier, well, it’s better than Gretchen….

    • Anonymous

I’m thankful to not see Granny panties this season….that to me was one of the least pleasing aspects of Gretchen’s collection.

  • Anonymous

So far, Viktor’s is my fav. I don’t like all of Laura’s but a couple of her dresses are VERY nice.

    • Anonymous

Don’t care for Laura’s except for the last look, and perhaps only if kept at that distance, depending on what that black pattern on the top actually is. I’m not wanting to see appliqued crocheted doilies upon zooming in.

  • Anonymous

Well, I’ll give some props to Laura and Viktor, after Oliviereieio freaked me out. Like Laura’s flirty little skirt, Viktor’s blue ombre with black print dress.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Elaine-Lang/100000366510311 Elaine Lang

Like Viktor’s the best, Laura’s is just a younger version of Bert’s.   In fact, the answer to “who is your customer?”   For them, it’s “Laura’s customer’s mom/Bert’s customer’s daughter.”    Both of whom have money to burn on clothes, so their futures are bright.

  • Anonymous

Viktor’s collection has some lovely pieces, but as a whole it’s a bit disjointed.

  • MilaXX

Don’t like Laura’s, except for the last 2 dresses. Don’t like any of Olivier’s; it’s too boxy. I like Viktor’s prints but  dislke his leather pieces & the sheer stuff looks like what we’ve been seeing for the past year.

    • Anonymous

I think I agree with you on all of this.  I really like Viktor’s sheer dress but I recognize it isn’t at all new.

      • MilaXX

That sheer dress looks like a Gucci rip off minus the feathers.

  • Anonymous

Out of what I’ve seen so far, I’m going to predict Victor and Laura are at least in the top.  Their collections looked finished and I could definitely see something in them.  The rest…*yawn*.

  • Anonymous

Viktor top 3! He’s turning into my favorite, and this only pumps up the enthusiasm. I love it. Laura’s has some pretty moments but is rather unfinished, so I don’t know if she made it to the end or just got tired out, or if that’s all she’s got.

  • Hayden Howland

Is anyone else getting a Daniel-Franco-butcher-paper-trash-bags-and-aluminum-foil-coat vibe from Olivier’s collection? It’s the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the colors, silhouettes, and fabric choices he made. Maybe that was the bliss Olivier chose to follow.

    • Anonymous

oliverier certainly has a point of view, however, it’s one that i want nothing to do with.

    Viktor for the win!!!

  • Anonymous

Viktor is my favorite of the nine. Oliver I also hope is a decoy. Laura is ok, not great, but ok. Based on photos I think Viktor, Anya and Bert are final three. Based on what I’ve seen on the show I still think its Anya, Anthony and Viktor thought Anthony could be traded for either Josh or Laura.

Viktor should win based on what I have seen.

  • Anonymous

I like Laura’s so much more than I thought I would.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-Petrison/1022054303 David Petrison

Well, Olivier’s not in the finale, that’s for certain.

Laura’s collection at least looks like a collection and seems to have quite a bit of time and money put into it.  It could be in the finale, but it’s not all that pretty to look at.  There are some definite good points to Viktor’s collection, but half of it looks kind of like throwaways, so I kind of doubt he’s in the finale.  That white jacket is really lame, as is the triple zipper skirt.  If he was in the finale, the overall collection would have had more of a wow factor.

Final 3: Anthony Ryan, Anya, and either Laura or Josh.

    • Anonymous

But none of these collections has a Wow factor so I don’t think that can be used as an indicator.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-Petrison/1022054303 David Petrison

Well, I think Laura, Anthony, Josh and Anya stick out because none of their pieces seem like just last-minute place holders.  It seems like they actually put thought and effort into all of the looks, whereas some of Viktor’s pieces seem to be thrown together without much care or thought.

I do like Viktor’s outfits more than Josh’s, but I don’t think it’s the work of a finalist.

Has anyone noticed that Laura’s collection looks very “inspired” by Gretchen’s winning collection from last season? A lot of the different garments, like high waisted shorts and shirts that have a higher hem in the front, plus the jewellery, plus the southwesty diamond pattern…Its not a bad collection but its a little too obvious that if she is going for the win, she’s going to do what the judges liked last year. A seriously terrible idea, because Gretchen won for the reasons that Emilio lost the year before.

Yes,the shapes on the bottom of one of the black dresses really reminded me of that jewelery collection that Gretchen did to go with her runway collection.

But I much would like to think that Laura’s collection is what Gretchen believes hers looked like…Laura’s is still kinda not that interesting or unique, but much better thought out and executed than Gretchen’s blanket-panty fiasco.

For a minute, I thought Olivier’s models wandered over to Viktor’s collection, but then I realized that they used exactly the same styling.

I noticed that several of Olivier’s garments, like some of Bryce’s, are too big for the models, as though he had insufficient time to fit them.  Sign of a decoy?

    • http://profiles.google.com/singingraisin ali meowmeow

Re: Olivier and Viktor, it does look like a bit of a collaboration. Especially the look with the sheer blouse that looks like Viktor’s collection and the zipper skirt that definitely wandered in from Olivier’s. On those grounds, I’d be willing to bet Viktor’s a finalist with that a last minute challenge.

      • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

Could be. Or maybe, they actually are Olivier’s? All of the pictures and details aren’t in yet, maybe they were mis-labelled?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FBVC5LBEOWEHBYYCH3A2IZGZHI Anonymous

Totally do not understand the fuss over Laura.  Looks a little like clothes that my mother’s generation or older sister, might have worn 20 years ago.  Or like boring somewhat upscale department store clothes.  Possibly I do not like the colors and can’t get around them.  Oliver had some good ideas and got out of a totally pastel diet, but the clothes didn’t enhance the models’ bodies, and seem to fit poorly.  Viktor’s clothes were good, they fit well and had an up to date modernity to them.  I like the rohrschach prints.

I think this is a weak season as a whole.  I think back to Jay McCarroll’s collection— where did the raw creativity of this bunch go?  That is, was it ever there?

    • Anonymous

jay’s collection imho is still the best pr collection ever. seth aaron is also one of my favorites.

  • Shawn Hill

Laura: forgettable. Olivier: Heavy eyebrow trend gone wild. Viktor: dude was born to make sleek black dresses.

  • Anonymous

Top 3 for me:  Bert, Viktor, Anya  Signed, Out on a Limb.

    • Anonymous

I agree with you…Bert & Viktor are the two I really liked and I think it is a foregone conclusion that Anya is in the top 3.  My preference would be Kimberly…I loved her white pants & top and she really used color well.

  • Lori

Time for one more “Project Runway first” — no winner.

But I’m rooting for Viktor because I detest it the least.  I do like a lot of Bert’s pieces but not for a design competition; there’s no there there.

  • Anonymous

Some nice things in Viktor and Laura’s. but nothing that sets the world on fire. LOlivier’s “impeccable” tailoring skills seem to have deserted him. Some of those models look like they are being swallowed up by the clothes.

  • Anonymous

Victor sort of looks like he’s reliving past glories with things like the ‘blotted’ prints or the shoulders on the white top, but I like his collection best so far.

  • http://twitter.com/magicalrealist Magical Realist

I’d like to get a closer look at the details of Laura’s collection, because I suspect those clothes are a lot more interesting than they
look here. I won’t be surprised if she’s a finalist.

Poor Olivier. I know he’s overdue for auf’ing, but those clothes are simply repulsive. The styling is aggressively ugly doesn’t help, but I’m not sure it’s hurt him, either–the best styling in the world wouldn’t save those clothes.

The unflattering sheer blouses aside, I like many of Viktor’s pieces. Again, like Laura’s, I want to see higher-res pics so I can check out the details, because I think there’s a lot to look at that I’m missing at this size. Another likely finalist, IMO.

    • Anonymous

I wonder if Laura’s collection will look better on the runway than the photos. While I HATED and DESPISED Gretchen’s muddy granny panty party I will admit that it looked much better on the runway. Still it was uber fug.

Olivier’s styling completely repulses me and the clothes do not even remotely fit the models.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OQVFNICJNI6VWUSHR4CZ73LEHQ Shelly H

Laura looks like she was inspired by Klimt paintings.

Olivier’s stuff just looks dated, boxy, and cheap to me.

I like Viktor’s just fine, and good use of prints, but his collection nothing special.

    • Anonymous

I just saw a whole slew of Klimt paintings at the Neue Galerie, and none of them looked remotely liked Laura’s garments.

      • http://profiles.google.com/trashilove { edi } ilovetrash

        i am afraid i dont see it either, except slightly in the one w/ the spangled bottom. that could be inspired by the one w/ the golden shower, so to speak, that has the black rod in it that’s always mentioned as a phallatial metaphor, but i doubt she knows anything much about any of it. {as an aside, phallatial is a word i just made up cos i like the sound of it & also cos i havent gotten much sleep the last couple days.}

what i do see in her stuff is something i also doubt she saw, which is the oil-slick velvet garments from the early 70s. i really like those so i liked some of her stuff more than i would ordinarily, tho for a reason she doesnt realize exists.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OQVFNICJNI6VWUSHR4CZ73LEHQ Shelly H

The patchwork, the use of gold and black, the black skirt with the gold geometric shapes falling into the hem, the shirt with the bronze swirls on it.

I’m not saying her stuff is OMG IT’S KLIMT!!! but it does seem evocative (or at the very least, looks to have inspired her) to me. And I’ve also seen my fair share of Klimts in my time, but I guess seeing the possible influence is subjective, isn’t it?

      • Anonymous

I don’t see Klimt either, but the eye of the beholder…The colors and patterns Blenley used remind me a bit of some really early Rothko paintings – before he got terminally depressed and painted black on black with the teensiest  hint of charcoal. Then again, they remind me a bit of Morris Louis, but with a more restricted palette.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

If so, that’s sad…. The Klimt Barbie is better.

  • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Honestly, for all people talk about this season being SO low on talent, there were no real horrendous collections here — not like we’ve seen in the last couple years.

Though I can now say with almost certainty that Olivier is not a finalist.  Not because of quality level, but because one of his tops is completely sheer and unlined.  No one in their right mind would design that for a finalist collection because it can’t be shown on Lifetime.

    • Anonymous

I think that Josh’s was pretty horrendous.

      • Anonymous

Agreed. Josh’s is the epitome of horrendosity.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Oh, I didn’t say they were GOOD.  But think about some of the truly GODAWFUL decoys we’ve seen in some past years!  Where there was nothing good, no good fabrics, and everything looked the wrong size and/or about to fall apart on the model…

          • Anonymous

That reminds me of Suede’s  – his fabric looked like wrapping paper!

I think that Josh’s was pretty horrendous.

  • Anonymous

Seeing the rest of Olivier’s collection didn’t change my original opinion, which was negative, but I’ll have to give him this, it’s very cohesive with its design and color story, none of this *one of these things doesn’t belong with the others*. The poor fits and unflattering silhouettes turn me off. I think he’s a menswear designer for a reason, he has no interest in enhancing a woman’s body. He and Viktor must have fought over the same models. What makes me uneasy is that he could quite possibly make it to the Final 3, and if judged against, say Bert and Anya, be the winner. Because it’s different. There is a market I think for these kinds of looks, and it’s pretty damn far away from Gretchen. If this, admittedly, far-reaching scenario happens, I’ll be really unhappy. I have given up on trying to figure out what the judges will cream themselves over.

  • Anonymous

Really like Victor’s and Laura’s.  Theirs and Bert’s are my three favorites.  However, I don’t think either Bert or Victor are finalists.  I think Laura is, Anya is and, then, possibly Anthony.  I look for signs of a bigger budget–how many accessories, do they look expensive, how many different kinds of footwear . . . there may be four designers, though, who got full budgets because of PR’s tendency to throw someone under at the last minute.

Anya and Laura are both wily, so I can see them making it to the end.  Anya is my bet for being a post-PR success.  She doesn’t have to sew to sell clothes in the real world.

    • Anonymous

I look for signs of a bigger budget

In the past, the decoys had the same budget as did the finalists.

      • Anonymous

Really?  My recollection is that the decoys had a budget that was about half to two-thirds of the finalist’s budgets.  I’ve found that the finalists, quite consistently, do more accessorizing with their looks–i.e. Gretchen’s forged jewelry, Irina’s hats, Mila’s jewelry, Korto’s jewelry.  While the decoys will accessorize, the finalists tend to have more variety in their accessories–mini accessory collections.

I could see Bert being an exception to this, given his minimalist aesthetic, but I think he’ll get auf’d.

        • Anonymous

My recollection is that the decoys had a budget that was about half to two-thirds of the finalist’s budgets.

That may have been true in the first season, but, as to more recent ones, some of the decoys have stated in interviews that it was the same.   “We had the same
budget, the same support and the same time restrictions” (Michael Drummond), “I received the same budget as the other designers”  (Kara Janx).

I expect that finalists do more work, particularly with accessorizing, because they have more at stake.

          • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

I don’t even know who Michael Drummond is. The name sounds familiar, but after a while, the mid-packs tend to blur.

          • Anonymous

Well, the first season there was almost no budget or time for Austen Scarlett as they didn’t realize that they were going to need a decoy collection.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

But a bigger budget doesn’t mean finalist — they may not really check the receipts for decoys, which means someone like Laura, who has said there’s family money, could conceivably use their own cash to supplement the PR budget.

  • http://profiles.google.com/singingraisin ali meowmeow

I think I’d predict Viktor and Laura in the final 3 for sure. Neither is a stunning collection (but none of them are, so…) but both have some interesting and wearable pieces and some sense of cohesion. If the rest of Anthony’s collection is any good, he’d be my pick for the third slot. Either Anya is a decoy with no motivation to challenge herself, or she never gets called out on not being able to do sleeves and figures why start now? I really hope she’s a decoy.

  • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

Oh, I hope Viktor is a finalist, because I love a lot of it. Some I don’t like, but his fabrics are gorgeous.

I do not like Olivier’s, but I can appreciate him finding a “voice” and sticking to it. That can NOT be a final. What a big “Fuck You” to Bunim-Murray if it is!

  • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

    good lord wtf?????

laura and oliverierieie  - no just no, and put fucking bras on your models
olivier – stop messing with women’s eyebrows, do you have a weird fetish?
viktor – i am really disappointed, and did you look over at olivier’s models and tell the garnier interns at the last minute to make your models hair look like that????

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OSYAJATXUH3QX7ZDDF52GXG4PU Janie R

It looked like Laura attached some of Gretchen’s jewelry at the bottom of dress 6 (the long one). Anyone else see that?
Oh I don’t know, They are all so bland it’s hard to pick. I think Viktor’s is my favorite. It looks like Olivier just made unusual menswear, and made up the models to look like men. It’s depressing.

This makes me not want to watch the rest of the season, because it doesn’t look like anyone breaks out and progresses. Kind of like peaking at a Christmas present that looks like it could be really good, and find out it’s a pair of socks.

    • http://www.facebook.com/thedon98 Donald De Leon

You’re totally right! It’s like she took all those jewelries from Gretchen’s collection and stuck them in there!

  • http://profiles.google.com/trashilove { edi } ilovetrash

so far none of these people shouldve won anything. not one of them.

blenley has a couple nice pieces, oliver made a nice pair of shiny pants, viktor made a nice dress– the shorter one. the rorschach to my vagina {& perhaps points beyond} is an almost-ran. the gustav klimt if he made shirts for heidi above below that shorter one isnt bad, but the mary katrantzou pre-mortem mcqueens intermixed are so derivative theyre just– wow. i could do the same analyses on all of them, not just these three. less bert’s cos, while his stuff is gorgeous, it’s classic-generic. the rest of them are trying to be trendy & that is more trying of my patience.

i say: anya / viktor / anthony. i could be wrong, but right now thats what i think. in that order.
edited to add: maybe laura. but i dont think she has the crowd appeal of anthony, so i would think him instead.

    have fun!

    • margaret meyers

Thank you for saying “flattering the wearer.”  That is missing from a lot of the collections.

    • Logo Girl

Totally agree with your choices, tentative as the second two may be. Anya is going to win, Viktor and Anthony Ryan are the probably other two in the finale. I am also going to guess that Oleeveeire is going to be the last eliminated before Fashion Week…

Viktor had some nice pieces. The other two were surprisingly cheap and hideous-looking.

I’m thinking Laura, Viktor and either Bert or Anya. My guess would be Laura Viktor and Anya simply because the judges seem to really like her and classics, while never out, are also not “the next big thing” that PR is looking for, so I doubt Bert will be in the top 3.

I will say I have much, much higher hopes that Josh isn’t long for this competition-I can’t wait to see him leave (and I have a feeling Becky will be having a party and getting seriously drunk that night :) ).

After this, my guess is on Olivier, Bryce and Bert as definetely decoys.

I liked most Laura’s (althought some pieces they remind me a bit of Gretchen’s last season) and Viktor.

I have doubts about Anya’s (which looks a lot like Uli’s), Anthony’s (althought they are very strong and bold pieces) and Josh M. (and I’m going to recycle the thoughts about Emilio’s *line*). Kimberly’s is nice enoough, but I feel they’re already done. I don’t know.

VIKTOR – if he is NOT the winner – was totally ripped off.

Laura and OIliveieireore  – holy crap  – at least Wendy’s naked woman looked romantic!

Pick the whitest models and put them in very very sheer black – with no details or romanticism in the outfits.

Olllivvererywyruie – WTF with the eyebrows

Lauta – if I can ignore the sheer t-shirt tops – there were a few pretty nice looks (like the bronze geometric prints)

  • http://profiles.google.com/gillianholroyd gillian holroyd

I’ve seen everyone’s now (although Anthony’s is still missing five looks). As disappointing as they are overall, I’m waiting for the live action version because I think half of these will look better in motion. (Not yours Olivier dear).

I am most puzzled by Viktor’s. *Two* transparent black shirts? (and did hapless Olivier help you with that leather skirt?) But there is one more photo coming so hoping for one last wow. Laura’s has that nice, expensive socialite look and I like the last dress? top and skirt? the best but the two in the middle with the fluttery sleeves look dowdy.

I think we can safely assume that Olivier’s is a decoy, poor thing. It’s unfortunate that he chose this styling this week, what with all the  rumours about Lindsey Lohan’s sister. One of his models actually looks like her too.

  • tripletmom96

i’m not a big fan of viktor as a person — he’s the whiney kid who’s always saying “it’s not fair — they cheated”…. how many times has he whined about someone doing something that he thinks goes against the “rules”….  that said, i am really liking his designs.  i haven’t loved everything he’s sent down the runway, but some of my favorite pieces from this season have been his….

as for olivier — he seems to have a thing against pretty women.  those eyebrows are just fug…. he did the same thing on the pet challenge by having the hamster bedding applied to the model’s eyebrows.  he was criticized for it, yet here it is again.  then the clothes….. i have seen very few things from him that i like.  the jacket in last night’s episode is probably the one exception…

Laura: it’s like a less depressing, more luxurious-looking version of Gretchen’s final collection. Looks like a top three.

Olivier: I’m scared. I would be afraid to be next to these ladies.

Viktor: looks like another top three finalist. Also has a luxurious appearance, except for the leather zipper skirt. But why the Vanilla Ice-like hair on the models?

    • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

“Laura: it’s like a less depressing, more luxurious-looking version of Gretchen’s final collection.”

Olivier’s collection is so odd.  Strange proportions, so few pieces contoured to the body, thick fabrics that look bulky.

And the styling!  Those girls all look like Mondo! I can understand wanting to create a single look that is distinctive, but shouldn’t the words “and attractive in a trend setting way” be included?  No one is going to copy this look, I promise.

Viktor’s has some redeeming (Mondo-like) value but I keep wondering – THIS is what I’m watching PR this season to see?

I thought Olivier’s looks were avant-ish, but to coin a phrase, I’m not sure he understands a woman’s body.

Laura’s?   One cute dress.   Strange color palate for her.

Victor’s were well done.  I’d like to see them move.

Since I’m not watching this season, I have no idea which of these contestants is considered a front-runner. Is Laura anywhere near the top of the pack? I like her collection quite a bit.

Olivier, on the other hand? Holy shit that’s hideous. And why did he make all his models look like grotesque men?

    • MilaXX

I think it’s because the dress he made in the last challenge was really nice, and may be influencing folks/

  • Anonymous

This is the second season in a row that almost all the final collections get a big yawn from me.

  • Anonymous

I like a lot of Laura’s looks but hate a few, and I loathe her tendency towards peachy, grandma bathroom fantasies.

Olivier seems well-made but eh, it’s so tired it’s cliche. Really. Like between Margiela and Jil Sander and a thousand others, this territory has been beaten like the proverbial dead horse, and his garish, alien styling seemed appropriate on a few looks but highly gratuitous on the rest. Yawn. Sadly, I really fear this is the collection the judges would pick to win as long as Olivier is in the finale. Please God, don’t let him get that far.

I like Victor’s, but I’m not getting an overall message from it. His prints and colors are pretty and modern but I agree with whoever said it reminded them of Stella McCartney. And am I blind, or did he basically make two of the same shirt? (The mirrored sheer top paired with the black shorts and then later with the long purple print skirt and black blazer. So the neckline’s been finished different, and hell, maybe there’s a different sleeve treatment too, but it is essentially the exact same design.) Strange.

  • Anonymous

    Really like Viktor’s. Then Laura’s. Olivier’s is just…blegh.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TFDDXGYWAUZBM4M5MJIINUHWBA Martha

all of Olivier looks look oddly out of proportion.  I thought at first it was the styling of the models but I see other designers used the tight pulled up and bumped hair and their proportions look fine.

Laura and Viktor have some nice bits and pieces but nothing overwhelming in toto

Almost everything hangs away from the body, as if Olivier were afraid to tailor to the body of a woman. Between the fabrics, the blah, colors, the baggy fits and the odd proportions… well the stupid hair and eyebrows are the least of his problems.

  • http://twitter.com/warontara Tara

    ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzZZZZZzzzZZzzz….

Oh, I’m sorry…was there a design competition pretending to happen?

Are the contestants not allowed to give their models pasties to wear? Would that take too much out of their budget?

    • Anonymous

      are nipples that offensive?

      • http://twitter.com/warontara Tara

Not offensive, but distracting and unnecessary (unless, of course, they feel like areola are a design element).

      • MilaXX

not to me and since the show airs after 9 I can’t see it being that big of a deal. Then again i don’t see the sheer top collections as finalist.

  • Anonymous

Laura’s has potential, but overall it was a snooze-fest.  I did like the one black dress, though, but it seemed out of place, since it actually fit and had good proportion.

Olivier… Oh, my little Onew clone… Your styling is atrocious, and this collection, I am afraid, really needed some kick-ass styling.  I will cry the day they send you home, because even if you make the top three, this will not win it all.

Viktor’s I kind of liked, surprisingly.  Though, if he ends up against Kimberly’s I would have to lean toward hers.  Also, at least one of his models looks like they ripped off the eyebrows from when they walked for Olivier, re-dressed them for Viktor and sent them out.

Oliver’s stuff is AWFUL! Maybe it looks better in person? Yuck! I am calling Viktor for the win.

Begrudgingly like Laura’s. Olive oil’s are a snoozefest. Love Vicktor’s prints, not loving the sheer/black pieces

LAURA – ew! Oliver  – near Ew. Viktor – lovely

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Laura? YIKES! what a sad mess of stuff. Mostly totally unwearable.  Olivier? Some great ideas there but,… Honey, no amount of tailoring skills are gonna save you if the clothes are cut to make a rail skinny 5’11″ model look like she weighs 240 pounds. Victor?  None of his work is ground breaking, but he showed the most range and the best wearability in his looks.  Very sellable stuff in the main.

  • Nikki Douglas

Viktor wins.  Olivier= what the fuck???

  • Anonymous

I’ve found Viktor’s collection the most polished, and the least RTW/boring of the bunch.  I picked Josh, Becky, and Viktor based on their pictures-and-paragraphs (a couple more, like Gunnar, didn’t get out of the gate or just barely)–since poor Becky is gone (I think there’s a market for her stuff, for sure, but she was everyone’s punching bag and was never going to be allowed to be a finalist), and Josh is rapidly disappearing up his own ass in a fart of glitter…

I’m going with Viktor FTW.  (and he should have won this week, IMO)

  • http://www.fatladysings.us/ TFLS

Finally some style!  Not a huge fan of Olivier (his models look like they’re modeling funeral wear) – but he definitely has a very succinct point of view (for dead people).  Love Victors (bet he’s a finalist) – and I like Laura’s too.  So far I’d say Victor’s was the best overall.  Not as good as seasons past, however – even those who showed but didn’t win (Laura Bennet, Uli Herzner, Mila Hermanovsk, Korto Momolu).  Kinda disappointing actually.  Not one of Runways best seasons by a long shot.

Laura: Well made pieces, on the fence here, could be a top three, or a pretty damn good decoy. Like the black gown with the gold cutouts on the bottom especially, and the brown print kimono looking dress. Liking the styling and accessories. Nothing earth shattering, but very nicely made pieces, Michael costello is jealous. I want to see the three pieces that are not here.
Olivier: I’m going to look at it again in a day or so. I LOVE the opening number, the plastic, the leather, the belt and boots, even the hair. Looks phenomenal. The rest ranges from the really good, to the plain unusual. With this kind of show it doesn’t hit me at first, so I’ll check in with it again in a day or so. Certainly keeps his aesthetic but doesn’t bore, IMO anyway, so it is a plus that fr Fashion Week, he needed to amp up the styling considering his minimal approach, props for that.
Viktor: One piece missing here, I’ll catch up on that, this to me looks like a top three. Beautifully constructed. LOVE that opening dress and the last two looks here, nicely made and constructed, urban too. But I still hate to big boxy shoulder pad looking things. I think this is possibly a top three but never know.

All three to me are a possibility at being a top three, all have high points and low points, but the high points are great in all of them.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=38601501 Megan Bayford

Wow, I’m really surprised to be favoring Viktor.  In the early episodes, he was NOT my favorite designer in the least, but I think he’s getting stronger and stronger every week.  That collection is actually really beautiful, not sure if it’s a “winner”, but it is very good at least.

    • Anonymous

totally agreed.  viktor grows on me a little more each episode, and i am really loving his presentation.  i see he continued the rorschach inspiration, but took it to a much more beautiful (and beautifully finished) place with the first dress and its sleeveless cocktail counterpart a bit further down.  in fact, that cocktail dress is one of my favorites of all the pieces, and that little divot on the side adds a simple bit of interest.  very well done, imo.

  • Anonymous

Laura surprised me the most. Her collection contains my top four looks. TLo haven’t yet posted Laura’s, in my opinion, three very strong looks. Her off-white looks are stunning. I loved the jewelry and metal accents on the dresses. Some of her gowns seemed like more sophisticated versions of Anya’s dresses (which I loved). I hope, but doubt it, that Laura is in the top three because I would love to listen to the judges’ feedback to her collection. Nothing on the show so far has indicated that she could present such a collection.

I loved all of Anya’s looks except one. But her collection, not including the space-filler collections, probably has the narrowest range of all PR collections. Uli presented more variety within her limited aesthetic. Anya’s collection is very well made and her high taste level is unquestionable. However, the collection does seem like a same dress made in different prints and lengths. There is not much variety in the silhouette and cut.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that Anthony Ryan is the color-blind one, not Olivier. Easy mistake to make given how Olivierier always uses neutrals.

something about laura’s is just tacky ~ with the last two dresses as the sole exceptions, especially the black gown … i can’t put my finger on exactly what it is that’s off, leading me to believe it’s a combination of things, but most of it looks like it belongs in stein mart.

Viktor’s has some very nice pieces, but I will never want that print pant across my, er, shapely thighs.

    • margaret meyers

Why did he pair that fabric with plain black?  It really isn’t working. That print fabric is really a lot of look, so to pair it with solid black might have seen like a solution, but looking at them together, Viktor should have realized it did not work.

  • Anonymous

Ozark Barbie’s line looks like what the “real” housewives of New Jersey would consider “real klassy.”  Shiny-shiny, lots of nips beneath the sheer, lots of metallic.

I’m having a hard time even looking at Olivieieieieier’s and Viktor’s collections because my eyes keep going to the models’ horrible hair and eyebrows. I don’t *want* to look–I just can’t stop!  Car wreck on the side of the road and all that. Why the faux-Frida eyebrows? Why, oh WHY, that awful hair that is guaranteed to make any woman who wears it look instantly ugly?  And maybe the most important question: Why did they style their models in exactly the same way??  This makes me think they were both decoys, they were both pissed off about it, and they decided to make a joke of their runway shows.

And if that’s the case, it’s really too bad.  Because I think Viktor did several really strong pieces. He is really good with gowns, and the last two looks are also well done.

Don’t know what to make of O’s. Some interesting ideas, but a lot of the pieces don’t seem to fit the models. And we know he can tailor, so again, a hint that he’s a decoy.

Overall, the worst collection of final collections ever.

  • Debby Ruth

No need to watch the contrived drama for the rest of the season. Too bad this show stopped being about design.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6BDDQFF22SPECYW2E7EH3KP7D4 Evergreen G

I love the way Oliver made his collection look androgynous just to challenge convention.

  • Anonymous

Just give it to Viktor and play infomercials for the rest of the season.PR has just devolved into a vehicle for relentless product placement anyway.

  • Anonymous

Oliver’s does not know how to dress a woman’s body, that beautifully tailored jacket from the last challenge aside.  Viktor’s is beautiful.   After seeing all the collections, i cast my vote for Bert and Viktor.  Those are clothes I can get excited about.

  • margaret meyers

Stuben, I think Laura has the better collection.  I’ve been back through the collections a few times now and I think she put together an attractive, interesting and marketable collection.  I particularly like that she made a lot of intersting separates that could be swapped around.  Some of Viktors pieces just aren’t working — especially the separates.

    • Anonymous

Whatever. I’d rather watch infomercials than watch Josh act like a turd. Actually I’d rather pound thumbtacks into my gums than watch that shrill queen play to the camera.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FBVC5LBEOWEHBYYCH3A2IZGZHI Anonymous

At first I thought I disliked Laura Kathleen’s work.  However, the rest of her pieces are on other sites, and they are better looking, or at least round out the collection.  This site shows her weakest outfits.

  • Anonymous

serenitynow02 observed that Olive Garden did a similar exaggerated eyebrow in the Pet Shop challenge (and the judges hated it.)

Perhaps this means that Olive Garden is a decoy and the eyebrows are a big f-you to the judges?

  • Anonymous

Having looked at all the collections, my overall feeling is disappointment. It sure is a weak season.

Many of these collections look like student work to me, either unfocused and “trendy” (many of them), copycat (Anya) or focused but ugly (Olivier). Bert did an adult collection, a compendium of classic great-looking clothes, slightly updated in some cases. Of them all, his is the one that looks like an actual finished collection. Quite beautiful, but I doubt they’ll give him the win for classic design. That’s not the stated mission of the show, even though the show doesn’t in reality practice what it preaches most of the time. There’s a surprising amount of lookalike design sensibility between the collections to my eye, which tells me that many of these designers don’t really have a personal design vision. You easily could swap stuff around between some of these collections and it wouldn’t make any difference. I don’t know if it’s because they’re still finding themselves or because they basically just lack the originality necessary to form a personal, recognizable style. Whichever, the results are pretty yawn-worthy. But on trend is what PR now loves (rather than cutting edge), so it’s hard to guess who they’ll pick. Since giving Gretchen the win last season for a line of boring-to-ugly clothes, I can’t figure out what criteria they use. Certainly not exciting design. Probably it’ll go to whoever’s styling they liked the best. Which will be tough, because the styling pretty much sucked across the board, IMO.

I agree! Burt’s collection was the most professional and also the only collection where I can say I would wear each and every piece.  I also liked Anya’s collection but as you say, it ia a copycat collection.

Definitely, no Jay’s, Daniel V’s, Uli’s, Laura B’s or PPS’s present in this group of designers.

Thinking it’s Anthony, Olivieripus, and Viktor. But it’s hard because it’s all so bland and boring. I miss Jay, Kara Saun, and the actually creative people who made PR a show of interest rather than just another reality show.

This has got to be the worst of PR final collections. Usually there is a collection to love but all of them are seriously lacking. No one pushed their game up at all.

  • Anonymous

From these three the better collections are Viktor and Lauras and they could be in the top 3. Oliverierier’s are sometimes hiddy and unflatering, you can do menswear inspired and minimalistic everywhere but the clothes need to be what women want to wear.

Viktor knows how to make a really pretty dress.  And that is not said dismissively at all.

Laura’s is very Housewives of Whatever with all the gold chevron bling.  That being said, I do like looks 4 and 5, but it’s nothing wow or innovative.  The palette is Gretchenized pukey brown and beige and not fashion forward – this is so last year.  Olivier’s is just so hideous I can’t comprehend it.  Beyond the dehumanizing styling, there are just bags of leather hanging on these models in ways that are unflattering no matter what body type.  Viktor did some beautiful pieces and his dress and gowns are beautiful.  However, those sheer blouses are awful.  I just have no clue who I would make the winner.  No one stands out.

Who is the guest judge?  I’m curious.

of this group I like Olivier’s the best. I am not sure whether he is a finalist though. My favorite of last season wasn’t a finalist . I also think Laura has a strong collection, both of the m stronger than anything they have done on the show so far.

    • Anonymous

I am curious. Would you mind expanding on why you like Olivier’s the best of this group, and where you place him overall? Since you have the knowledge and experience with sewing so many of us don’t have, are you looking at his work from a fashion point of view or from design and sewing skills (which I’ll grant, he does have)?

I also agree that Laura’s work is stronger than what we have seen on the show from her.

  • Anonymous

Laura: I don’t think you can effectively throw a little dress in like the first one, and only reference it again in your last look. It’s too startlingly out of place. Don’t see so much the Gretchen vibe as others; Laura’s use of browns is quite different. Love the black top and necklace with the flirty scribble/linen skirt and the next one with the circles top and scribble skirt. Some issues with other looks. More Vneck koolaide. Overall cohesive, but not feeling the love I had at earlier glance.
I’m betting she’s in the finale.

Olivier: That he is a menswear designer is obvious. Flattering to the female body, not in a million years. Different from everyone else. It is a cohesive collection. Strongly hate the styling. If he is Top 3, it will be interesting and possibly scary to hear from the judges.

Viktor: He has only 9 looks up so far. Why did he use the same black sheer blouse twice?? Also repetitive, the shiny/black/grey floating rectangle design on sheer fabric tops seen twice. I think he and Olivier fought over their models. I like some of Viktor’s ideas, such as the white/lavendar blouse w/black skirt and the next dress in blue lavendar with black tree image. The more I look at his work, the less I’m drawn to it. Possible Top 3.

I think Laura is a decoy. Would she really have nipples showing if she expected her collection to be on national TV? Her designs would come down the runway all scrambled or with little black rectangles coving things. Just a hunch.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1017585103 Kanani Fong

Hmmm…. Laura’s dress with the writing is the most modern piece, but the rest of her collection stretches kind of far. Still, considering during the competition all of her pieces seemed to come from some zone of distress, it’s much better than I had anticipated. I wish Olivier had pushed the envelope a bit further in terms of design, and that he had gone whole hog avant garde and edgy. It stops short… and I’m not sure the restrained attitude works to its full advantage. Viktor’s clothes are well made and conceptualized. As I would have expected.

There were a few pieces here and there that I liked from any/all of the collections, but geesh. This season’s designers are crap.

After seeing these photos and Becky getting eliminated last week, PR is officially deleted off the DVR. No sense in me watching it if this sad set of collections is the end result.

  • Geno Boggiatto

I really like Viktor’s collection, except for that palm tree fabric, which to be quite honest, looks like a cheap print out of a bad photograph!

  • Anonymous

And that’s it. There isn’t a single collection to get excited about. How depressing.

  • Anonymous

You know what? I totally hated the styling on Olivier’s clothing, but so sue me , I loved the clothes. I was disappointed in Viktor, I expected better. Laura, that first dress was wow, but way too disconnected and everything else was boring.

Side note: I really don’t think Olivier is faking that accent as much as people think he is. His accent sounds more Hong Kong/Taiwan ESL than British to me. And if he was raised by ESL parents, well, all the more excuse.

  • Anonymous

SIDE NOTE: I was out in Hell’s Kitchen last night and saw Olivierier and Bryce.  They did not walk with the air of people who had just won Project Runway – and I overheard them say they were on the way to an after-party.  So take that for what it’s worth.  Not really spoilers, but observations.

I enjoyed Laura’s collection.  It was consistent, if kinda boring – bur at least the clothes look expensive and she has a point of view.

Oliviererierieir’s feels pretty straight up 80s.  I know strong shoulders and oversized are having a moment in fashion right now, but none of this feels fresh.  And he seriously needs meds – that’s depressed people clothes.

Viktor’s felt very fashiony.  Also boring and predictable, but I think women would want to wear those clothes.  It feels a little one-note to me, but I think he has the chops to do more.

  • Michael Colvin

    Laura’s collection is beautiful

It’s obvious to me they cast this season for reality tv personalities and not fashion skills. None of them have had a serious design career (except for Bert, allegedly), several of them can’t sew, none of them has a clear point of view. The producers didn’t even bother to bring in professional models, makeup & hair–they knew it wasn’t worth the expense.

Love Laura’s and love Vikor’s but all I can see on two of his printed dresses is the Armani Code print ad.

  • Anonymous

Laura started and ended with really beautiful and strong looks, but nothing in between had the same impact.

Olivier’s was terrible, from the Groucho Marx brows to the fit and cut of the clothes.  I thought he’d show a much stronger collection than this. And I doubt it moves well with all that leather.

I hated the styling on Viktor’s, a little too severe and mannish, but some of the pieces were lovely.  I hope the photos are out of order because I can’t imagine him ending with pants and a leather jacket.

    • Sara__B

According to Blogging Project Runway, Viktor’s last look is indeed the pants and white leather jacket.

  • MilaXX

My guess for the 3 finalist are Laura, Anya & Anthony. I would give the win to Anthony, but I think the judges will give it to Laura. Those collections look more expensive and also have accessories like bracelets and necklaces. They probably had the final twist be that the designers make accessories for their collections to tie in the PR accessory show. I think Anya comes in 3rd. I also think the judges may have picked 4 and then had Anya and ________  show pieces to decide who goes to Fashion Week.

They probably had the final twist be that the designers make accessories for their collections to tie in the PR accessory show. I think Anya comes in 3rd. I also think the judges may have picked 4 and then had Anya and ________  show pieces to decide who goes to Fashion Week.

Okay, I’m giving the win to Blenley, here. She’s got a pile of interesting stuff, with only a couple of misses. (That coppery-pattern fabric is beautiful in theory, but apparently beyond her sewing skills.) Her first and last are awesome. The skirt in #4 and top in #5 are beautiful.

Olivier’s is much better than anything he produced in the season so far, but it has too many fit issues and questionable fabric choices. However, he did redeem his color aesthetic, making his neutrals look a lot more interesting than, frex, Bert’s collection.

Viktor’s are beautiful and interesting, but again, just a few too many fit issues, and it’s not quite all hanging together as a collection. His prints are beautiful, but they’re fighting with the solid black when they’re paired (see the first and second-from last). I put him second to Laura.

I’d call Laura and Viktor pretty close, here, and Olivier a contender but as an extreme long shot.

Surprised to say this but Laura looks like a contender for final 3. I’d say she’s about on the same level as Viktor, here,  on how many are striking or at least of interest, except I think her collection hangs together better than Viktor’s. I know they had a limited number of looks but his looks like two different collections, almost.  I like her color choices more than Viktor’s, in part because they were less varied. They both show some acquaintance with the shape of a female (model’s) body and how to make clothes to fit it, I think Viktor demonstrated as well as (or better than) anyone else but Bert that he can make clothes that fit.

I’d say Olivier deserves to be at least top 4 because he has a cohesive vision – and by PR standards it’s a *good* thing that it’s more unusual than say, Bert’s, who also has a recognizable look.  But despite there being very wearable pieces in his collection, I don’t think you become a winner on PR if your look + styling is both unusual right to the edge of sci-fi convention AND less than extremely well made. I suspect his materials were hard to work with, but there’s some wonky fitting and not-laying-quite-right going on that I don’t think is intentional. And, really, that shiny grey plasticky stuff. Just too shiny.

I do think if his clothes were better fitted and made, he ought to be a top 3 contender – I don’t personally *like* his color scheme, but it works as a palette, I think, and if he’s derivative (because, after all, there’s not much new under the sun), at least it’s not of looks I can buy at at least 3 different stores and price points right now.

I never realized they used decoys! Thanks for clearing that up…I’ve wondered for a long time how they kept the winners from being announced early.

  • Patricia Biswanger

I like Laura’s collection best, but that might be because she has the human-looking models.

I think Victor’s might be my favorite collection across the board – which is odd because I don’t think I’ve liked much of his stuff, or him, on the show.  Love his use of prints, love the black sheer stuff.
Laura’s 2nd, 3rd and 4th looks I don’t like at all.  I’m indifferent to the vanilla colored pieces.  Really love the coppery colored pieces and the black/metallics pieces.
Aw Oliver.  I really wanted to like his.  I just can’t love his color palette or the materials he chooses.  Or the fit.  And especially the styling.  Isn’t he the menswear designer?  I’d love to see a menswear collection by him.  I think I’d like the neutrals he likes better in mens.

What a strange color pallette Olivier chose. It doesn’t feel modern and it’s all so fug. So disappointing.
I like Laura’s last dress and the Angelina Jolie dress.
Viktor’s collection makes me feel mostly icky.

  • Miranda Prince

    One word: BRASSIERES.

  • Gigi Louis

I like a couple of pieces from Olivier’s and Viktor’s collections but the rest is kind of boring.  Enough with the dressy shorts already!

In Oliver’s collection the women all look like boxy shapless 10 year old boys with a weight problem.  I mean seriously.  So far Viktor is the only one who has multiple pieces I think look good.  Laura had a few things I liked, but so far Viktor is my winner.

Does Olivier hate women? What did we do to deserve such punishment. All of it is just wrong.

    Laura’s proportions are SO wonky!
Oliver…is NOT my taste – and his models just need big hillbilly teeth to finish that look…..lawd
Viktor: J’adore more than half of it and like the rest…barring the suspenders and see through beach cover/lingerie(?) ato much lacey transparent period really.

    Laura’s collections >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Oliver/Vicktor.

Laura: Her collection has a lot of interesting, gorgeous pieces. A few clunkers but nevertheless, a nice collection.
Oliver: First and foremost, grey and camel does not go together. Whatsoever. And I could not for the life of me get past those Bert & Ernie-ish inspired eyebrows. I’m still laughing at it.
Vicktor: Blah and meh. Those prints are horrendous. His use of sheer in some pieces were cute, though.

Um…did they all have to make titty tops?  Sorry I have a thing for alliteration. Oh booby blouses! I’ve seen more boobies looking over this season’s runway than I can remember having done before.  It seems to me that all of them were ready to wear.  There were no wows!

Laura- I liked it but that first dress looks like a death trap.  You can slit your wrists trying to put it on.

Olivier – wtf?!?  Does he have an eyebrow fetish?  I couldn’t stop looking at the eyebrows.  I had to go back and TRY to look at the clothes.  The boring ugly clothes except the black dress with the zippers.  I kinda like that.

    Viktor- cute. wearable

OMG – yes – the eyebrows!  It was like that scene in Austin Power’s when Fred Savage has this big mole and all anyone can think is MOLE MOLE MOLE.  It was distracting and bizarre.  Give me mondo’s little hatty things anyday.

  • http://www.madamovarypart2.blogspot.com madam ovary

Okay, well really like Laura and Viktor.  I found Olivier’s eyebrow styling disturbing.  Were all the models supposed to look like him?  I just didn’t like his stuff but I have no way of knowing if it’s really great fashion or not.  But I really liked Laura’s patchwork evening gown because it’s the only time I’ve seen that kind of depiction of those 70s patchwork suede coats in something that was actually pretty.  And Victor’s stuff is really lovely.

Oh my, Olivier Eyebrows. You really don’t do women’s wear do you? Poor dear, this is a depressing collection.

Some of Viktor’s garments aren’t bad. Becky’s metallic stuff is hideous and the rest is forgettable. That first dress looks almost unwearable.

  • Anonymous

It’s unfortunate Viktor’s hair and makeup styling was so close to Oliviererir’s.  I kept seeing groucho brows that weren’t really there.

  • narita_rayna

just taking my first look at the finale collections.  im left wondering if there isnt a final challenge to incorporate either pleather zipper skirts or sheer separates w/ random computer parts glued all over them….  either way – yikes on all of this.  theres maybe like 5 pieces on the whole page worth saving.  the rest can go! :P

  • http://www.facebook.com/ILoveYouSoSmile Natalie Claire Davis

What is with Olivier’s obsession with eyebrows?!

  • vmcdanie

Laura and Viktor have some nice pieces but a few of them are also mega unfortunate (like that sheer black dress of Viktor’s with the leather straps.) I do love those blue and grey print dresses of Viktor’s.

Olivier has a few nice separates but no one outfit that works. The styling is HIDEOUS.

But, hey, it’s Natasha from ANTM! I love her! Sadly, that was the best part of Olivier’s collection.

Can we declare some kind of moratorium on exposed model boobs? It makes me uncomfortable for starters-like the model is being forced to expose herself (I know they are young and have great bodies so they probably don’t care but still.) And second, it’s just nonsensical. The outfit as such clearly isn’t wearable in public so what is the point?

This is interesting. I haven’t seen anything that’s a clear winning collection but I’d put Laura, Anya and Viktor in the top.

  • http://www.facebook.com/claudeth.forbin Claudeth Forbin

Did anyone else notice that Olive and Viktor’s model’s have the exact same hairstyling.  Also, O, V and L are pretty much using the same color palette.  Not bad, but interesting.  That said, overall not bad, all three have a nice sense of consistency and this is a line going for it, with some nice pizazz here and there.  Hey Oliver didn’t go all pale, there is a little vibrancy there.

    • Anonymous

I was wondering also if some off the models weren’t the same in some shows. For example, the girl in Laura’s “Harlequin” gown isn’t also doing Anya’s runway ? If one of the two is a decoy, it would make sense to use the same models. No ?
Also, as the PR models didn’t have a lot of screen time, I admit I can’t figure who is who between challenges. In the finale collections’ pictures, I can’t recognise any of them. The show went from over expose the models to under expose them. They’re no more than clothes handler, now. It’s a wonder why the producers even bother having a prize for the winning model.
At least, the “pick a model phase” helped getting some interest in the model and provided also some drama.
      Whatever, I’m digressing, sorry.

After looking at all nine of the collections, I have to chime in about how disappointing they are as a whole. Yeah, the show has been disappointing too, but that’s another issue. Imo, none of the nine collections have shown any sort of design innovation or construction virtuosity. Yes, there are a few pieces here and there, that stand out somewhat, but when I look back at past seasons and compare the top collections [decoy and otherwise] to these, these just pale in comparison… not only in quality of workmanship, but over all lack of thought given to bringing anything *new* to the ‘table’. Specific peeves would be construction/fit issues, repetitive design concepts [silhouettes, zippered skirts, tasseled waistlines, lack of sleeves, etc.]. Perhaps these collections just ‘read’ poorly in stills, on the computer screen and will look better when we see them move on the television. Bottom line(s) [for me]; None of these designers will go on to do great things in the industry, unless they broaden their ideas and improve their skill sets, and none of the outfits shown in any of the collections will set a new trend or set the industry on it’s head, unless [perhaps] a couple of them are heavily marketed by the sponsors via the web… Even then, though, whatever they choose will be a flash in the pan. Looking forward to the ‘All-Stars’ show to see if some of the past designers can bring it and show this group of cast members how it’s done.

agree with you. there are a few select pieces here and there, but jeez, what a bunch of unimaginative designers.

  • Anonymous

Laura : very surprised by what I see here. She didn’t produced anything like that in PR before. Some pieces are lovely (helped by the jewellery), some not so much. I wonder if she’s top three.
Olivier : Yuck. Sorry, but the combination of men inspired outfits and androgynous-bording-on-manly styling doesn’t please my taste. Plus, I don’t know if it’s intentional but the fitting is… Odd. Most of whatever figure the models might have is being swallowed by the outfits. They all look bulky on the top and thick in the waist. not my cup of tea. Olivier definitely doesn’t design for women, he justs follows his own art.
Viktor : very puzzled. I don’t sense a high fashion created to wow judges and win the prize. Some pieces are lovely while some looks seemed directly extracted from Olivier’s collection. I’m afraid he’s not in the top three.

So, based solely on the pictures of the 9 remaining challengers, my guesses for the top three are : Anthony Ryan, Anya (not thrilled at the thought but it’s real TV, so…) and Josh or possibly (and hopefully) Viktor.

I love Viktor’s white jacket.  Some of Laura’s “art deco” pieces are nice, too.  But Precious Moments’ pieces are awful.  Did they play a funeral dirge as the hiddy models did their walks?

OH MY GOD I FEEL SO BAD FOR OLIVIER’S MODELS. And thank god he didn’t make it to the final three, with this shitty collection. Restores my faith in the show somewhat.

Looking at these collections, I think my pick for the final three would be Anthony, Laura and Viktor. Anthony’s collection was kinda fun and interesting, Laura’s was surprisingly interesting and Viktor’s was really cool. I think those three could be amazing designers.

  • Anonymous

Referring to Viktor’s collection…….Why would you send the same look twice down the runway in a 10 look collection? You already have the limitation of only ten looks, yet 2 of the models are wearing the same exact sheer and glass top and another two are wearing the same sheer long-sleeve shirt.

  • Anonymous

Looking over Laura’s collection again, I like it a lot more than I did the first time I saw it. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s a finalist.

Viktor’s seventh dress looks so much like what Gretchen was wearing on last seasons finale. O_O

just saying that olivier’s not only are the clothes manly but the models were manly lookking and styled.

  • Sugar Kane

I don’t get the Olivier-hating. To me, his collection is (a bit too) reminiscent of Alexander Wang and Acne (with a bit of Celine-y leather tops thrown in) – two absolute darlings of the fashion scene. For surprisingly many of us women, androgynous is interesting, we’re not that into “showing off the curves”. I love his oversized jackets and yes, the leather trousers. I’m also intrigued by some of Victor’s pieces, there’s something of the “now” in there. The other designers seem to make perfectly nice, safe, Feminine clothing. I don’t have much need for flowing dresses in my everyday life, but would love to put on an Olivier blazer.
