HE: Gives us hope for the future. We look at him on the red carpet, clutch our hands to our chests, and each allow one lowly tear to catch the light as it streams down our cheeks in pride. “Well done, Taylor Lautner,” we whisper. “Well done, you overwhelmingly heterosexual young man.” There are very few men on the planet who can get away with a deep-v white undershirt on the red carpet, but if you’re young, have the body for it, make sure you are perfectly groomed and pair it with a chic, well-tailored black suit, you have our blessing. Score: 10/10. This is something that looks effortless but is, in many ways, more difficult to pull off than a suit and tie.

SHE: Looks great, but we have issues with the detailing. Love the dress. It’s got an edge to it and it suits her. However, we can NOT with the ladies and the cocker spaniel hair any more. It’s way overdone and to be perfectly blunt, it’s not a very pretty hairstyle. Whether she has them or not, every time a starlet goes out with this hair, we assume she’s camouflaging her extensions (badly). If we were working for a design house and lending out dresses, we’d attach a note that says “Don’t you dare let your client cover up half of this with her extensions.” That’s a taste thing (as in, it’s not our taste) so we won’t punish her too harshly for that. The shoes irritate us. Really, stylist person? Standard black platform peep-toes? You couldn’t use a little imagination here? Once again, someone thought “We’ve got a great dress. Our work here is done.” Bah. It’s all in the detailing and a stylist should know that. She looks good and these are relatively minor quibbles. Score: 8.5/10.

Combined score: 9.25/10. Run along now, children. Enjoy your little movie thing but don’t get into cars with people you don’t know and call us if you get into any trouble.

      Bravo, Shark Boy. Bravo.

      • Anonymous

You know, I couldn’t put my finger on what animal he resembled, but Shark Boy nails it! But, I have to admit, he’s a beautiful shark. Not my cup of shark fin soup, but I can see the attraction. (I couldn’t help myself)

        • Anonymous

In case you were not aware, Cindi is referring to a kids movie he did called Shark Boy and Lava Girl where he played the aforementioned kid superhero

          • Anonymous

OK, now I’m a tiny bit embarrassed for not knowing that.  But the casting was genius–saved a ton on make-up I bet.
Now I’m imagining the casting call for that movie…

dont worry, if it helps i’d never heard of it either.

            • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

Don’t worry: I only know because my 11-year old has had a crush on him since she was 4. He’s the only celebrity she’s ever found cute, and she discovered him before his Twilight days. :D

It’s ok. Robert Rodriguez pandering to his Spy Kids fans. Not his finest hour.

He actually starred in a movie called Sharkboy and Lavagirl. True life.

What’s on his shoulder? An unfortunate drip?

He does look FABulous, though.  Her hair makes her look very very young.

      • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

In the last pic, you can see an umbrella in the background.  Musta been raining, on his D&G jacket.  The horror!

        • Anonymous

I thought that was some bedazzled detail on the shoulder, lol!

    • Phillip Wilde

      HE: Fan-freaking-tastic.

SHE: Cute, but I feel like her makeup could have been done a little better.  She looks a bit washed out.

    • Anonymous

Cocker Spaniel hair.  Perfect!  I’ve been looking for a word to describe this.  Thank you.

      • Anonymous

All I can think of is all the crud caught in a cocker’s ears… YUCK!  But it is such a perfect, spot on term for this messy hair style!!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_AYQCICXEN2CCDBFV5HED4Z2RUA Dee B

I don’t mind her shoes/hair.  Her makeup is what irritates me. That smokey eye with her dark strong brows is a little too much going on for my liking.

      • Anonymous

I agree about her makeup – it’s not flattering at all.

      • Anonymous

I agree, plus it’s the wrong shade for her, too much yellow.

    • Sobaika Mirza

Ick, I would have scored her a bit lower. Wash your hair and get some decent lipstick.

    • Anonymous

dead on about the hair. It’s messy and blah. Also not crazy about her eyebrows—there’s thick and then there’s *THICK*.

I’m getting old, though—they both look 12 to me. She, in particular.

      • Anonymous

        Agreed. There’s thick and there’s Oon-Foo-Foo, Eddie Murphy’s “bush b*tch”.

        • Anonymous

OMG, that takes me back! Wow, that was Eddie Murphy when he was just getting hot.

    • Anonymous

To me, the shirt makes him look like he’s got a loooong neck and a leetle teeny pin-head on top of it. Throws off the proportions of the whole look for me.

I think she looks cute overall but yeah, the hair is pretty awful.

      • Anonymous

I agree with you about the shirt, I don’t like the proportions on him especially. He does have a long neck that’s sort of out of proportion to the rest of his body, and this just makes it look like he’s looking in fun-house mirror. A shorter v would have been better.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

I fail to see the attraction in Taylor Lautner, but agree that he looks fine here.  Very nice, in fact.  I’d agree with your 10.

Little missy, OTOH - What a great little dress.  Too bad she covered the most interesting part up!  The hair is what killed it for me, even before I read your review.  I’m learning!  :)  Also agree the shoes were bleah, boring.

    • Anonymous

This young man is so perfectly suited to being photographed it’s unbelievable. What a fortunate, genetically superior human being.

    • http://twitter.com/RzYoung RzYoung

Wow, has TLo ever awarded a 10/10 to a boy before?…in fact to anyone before?
He’s so dreamy and that dress rocks on her

    • Scott Hester-Johnson

He just oooozes heterosexuality, doesn’t he?

    • http://profiles.google.com/trashilove { edi } ilovetrash

      she has wonderful skin.
in the last picture a lot & the one previous to it a little, she reminds of brooke shields maybe a fortnight or two after the date she & her calvins became inseparable.

i’d probably like the shoes if i saw them from the side.
the slight underside upturn up front gives them a bit more interest than they’d have elsewise.

    • http://twitter.com/bredalot Breda Smith

I love this dress. I’d love it more with brightly colored shoes. And I agree about the hairstyle: this is basically the natural state of my hair (though, like, twice as much volume. Dear Irish ancestors: I’m not sure whether to thank you or curse you), so while I think it’s pretty, it also always looks undone to me. Also: if you’ve got an interesting neckline on your dress, I don’t care how pretty your hair is, DON’T COVER IT UP. You can wear your hair down another day.

      • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I’m with you on the “Dear Irish Ancestors” thing. It’s the natural state of my hair too, although the greys are just starting to show. However, I’m to the point where I appreciate messy hair, especially on young women. They’re at an age where it doesn’t much handicap them.

On the other hand, it wouldn’t hurt her to chop a few inches off.

      • Anonymous

You should thank those ancestors. Trust me; I have fine, flat hair and it’s harder for me to zhuzh some volume into it than it is for you to put a little oil in your hair and tame the wildness.

        • http://twitter.com/bredalot Breda Smith

Oddly enough, that’s the kind of hair my sister has! Weird division of genes there. But it’s true: most of the time I love my hair, I do. It’s only when I try to actually STYLE it that I get frustrated! It always looks messy to me. But still. It’s mine, and I wouldn’t trade it.

      • http://pissiechrissie.tumblr.com/ Chrissie

I think the issue is that usually their hair isn’t natural, but very obvious extensions.

    • Anonymous

Taylor has done what few men can do; wear a deep-v shirt with style.  Shark Boy, I forgot about that show – cute.

I really, really dislike long (fake) hair, especially when it covers up an interesting dress.

    • Anonymous

Wow, a 10 for him! My first thought was oh no, not a Fruit of the Loom undershirt with a suit!! What were you thinking boyyyy? But the more I looked, the more I thought, damned if he isn’t pulling it off. He looks sexy and cool. More importantly, he probably won’t have too many years to be able to get away with this sort of thing, so might as well do it while he still looks like THAT.

Her: I completely disagree on the dress. I tend to think that you have to have a certain attitude to wear a black dress with hardware. It’s not the type of thing that suits just any girl and I REALLY don’t think it suits her. Put this on Eliza Dushku and it’s an entirely different conversation. The hair, however, is atrocious. Between that rat’s nest on her head and those bushy eyebrows, she looks like jungle woman. I’m the owner of thick eyebrows myself and I like them, but they DO need to be cleaned up a bit. I’m sorry, but If your eyebrows are casting a shadow on your face, then it’s time to pick up the tweezers and tame those bastards.

    • Anonymous

Just so I’m clear, you guys gave your very first 10/10 to a guy wearing a $6000 suit with a Hanes undershirt?

      • http://www.tomandorenzo.com Tom and Lorenzo

Were we not clear about something, dear? And we guarantee that’s not a Hanes undershirt.

        • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

And let’s remember: this is a $6000 suit that isn’t puddling around his shoes.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

I kind of think that’s the point…he’s pulling it off.

The guy in the $6000 suit is going to be wearing a Hanes undershirt.  Come on!  ;)

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

There’s a girl in these pictures? Sorry I didn’t notice anything but Taylor…..

    • Anonymous

Interesting! I didn’t see those scores coming. I really don’t like the leather and grommet detailing on her dress which looks a little cheap to me, but I hate hate hate the little triangle at the bottom. It’s a detail, I know, but hey: I’m a picky bitch. And I can’t help it, I’m sorry! I think he looks like a d-bag here.

      • Anonymous

OMG I HATE THAT TRIANGLE.  I just looks like a symbolic pubic patch – as if it fell out of her panties and caught on the edge of the dress.  Sorry, but honestly, it was the first thing that came to mind.

    • kat schnepp

i think her eyebrows are fantastic. if they had gone light on the smoke and done her up Audrey-style and put her in some cool Jeffrey Campbell booties she would have nailed it. also, remind me why extensions are necessary?? he’s a little “squish face” for my liking, but he looks nice here.

    • sarah jacobs

One of the things that I like here is that she looks her age. Too often these starlets are so perfectly “done ” that they look perfect and ten years older than their actual age..or at least like no one their actual age could look without massive intervention.

    • Anonymous

The boy (or his stylist) knows what he’s doing.  He almost always looks terrific on the red carpet.  And his pants usually fit and are the proper length!  I’m usually not a fan of V-neck tees but it works here.  And I think he’s growing into his looks – as he’s losing the baby fat in his face, he’s turning out to be a really good-looking man.

She looks like she’s channeling Morticia Adams.  I like goth but this is maybe a bit much.  And she needs to take a weed whacker to her hair and eyebrows.  I’d have scored her much lower.  But still, she’s very, very pretty.  If she learns how to style herself she’ll be a knock-out.

    • Julie Fountain

Even his pants are hemmed correctly!

      • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

Isn’t it rather sad that properly hemmed pants are something to be pointed out? It seems like ages since we’ve seen a guy show up on the red carpet with well hemmed pants.

    • Anonymous

He – The only criticism I have is with the deep V t-shirt.  It just draws so much attention to his overly large and long neck.  I hate the deep V t-shirts anyways, they’re so smarmy.  8/10

She – Looks really great.  She does have great eyebrows but her heavy dark eyeshadow doesn’t work with them….all too dark.  Her hair is a bit witchy, but it doesn’t bother me enough to down grade her.   9/10

      Combined 8.5/10

      • Anonymous

I like her eyebrows too. I think they are beautiful. And fuller brows are supposed to be coming back, now that a whole generation of women have plucked theirs to the extent that they don’t grow back. (My eyebrows are white, so thick, thin, whatever.)

      • Anonymous

I think his body proportions are really off – probably because he is only 18 and is still growing.  While it makes his neck look really long, the v-neck also changes the look of the rest of the proportions.  I think he may still grow up really weird looking.  and I’m convinced that he sleeps in some device that makes his jaw and chin look like that.

    • Anonymous

His neck looks as wide and as big as his head.  Otherwise very good

      • Anonymous

I know! Why is his neck so big? Is that a werewolf thing?

    • Anonymous

If Lautner grow up a bit and learns how to act, he’ll be gorgeous.  I haven’t seen him in anything but the Twilight movies and I cringe every time he opens his mouth.  The scenes when we can just look at him are okay though.

      • Anonymous

        grows

    • Anonymous

I want to like the tee shirt, I really do.  But it’s thin and you can see his chest underneath.  Because of this distraction, I keep putting on another head in place of his; one with “recently released convict” hair and crooked teeth.  At that point, I imagine him saying things like “Hey little lady” and “You got a purty mouth.”  I just can’t do it.

    • Addicted2Glamour

I just don’t get the Lautner mania.  I hate that grotty beard that only grows below his jawline.  And I must call hipster BS on a deep V tee shirt, especially when worn under a suit. I suppose this a case of “agree to disagree” because I seem to be in the minority here.

      • Anonymous

I love the word “grotty” applied here.  That is exactly what that weird pretend beard is.  Grotty.  XXOO

    • Anonymous

Her: You’re dead on. Don’t know if I’d have minded the shoes if the shoulder/neckline of the dress were showing, it being pretty cool and all. Your 8.5 stands

Him: Oh NO NO NO. I stand in the path of trends and common practice. No one with that neither-one-thing-nor-the-other carefully shaped couple of day’s growth of beard can start at a 10. He starts at a 9, even say, 9.25. (That rumble thud! you heard was trends & common practice running me over. Don’t care.)  First glance, I’d have let that stand – the glance where I though he had on a dignified, classic crew neck t-shirt, such as Sean Connery might successfully pair with a beautifully tailored suit. BUT NO. It’s a v-neck, not bad really, can I really take off for that?,  YES because it is a deep v-neck. NO. I refuse. (rumble thud!)

Modern usage be damned. He’s an 8.75, and that’s generous.  Combined score: 8.625. (rumble thud!)

      • Anonymous

I agree…can’t stand the unshaven trend….always looks unkempt to me..

    • http://twitter.com/ryenerman rynerman

Seriously between this and the last set of photos of J.Lo. I am fed up with Cocker Spaniel hair.  It’s unflattering, covers interesting details, and looks like they couldn’t be bothered.  Enough already.

      • Anonymous

what IS it with this long hair that hangs over both shoulders?  News casters, people in commercials, and of course, red carpet movie stars – they all have it.  Don’t people have cute and stylish hair cuts anymore?  What happened to hair STYLE?  Ugh.

i can’t tell you how much i love that he always has his pants hemmed to the right length!!  both he and ryan gosling must have the best gays in town.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catherine-Rhodes/602850414 Catherine Rhodes

I completely agree regarding the hair that covers up the interesting detailing on the neckline. Especially hair with that “bedhead” look which is just atrocious.

    • MilaXX

he does indeed look good, but I don’t think I’m willing to give him a perfect score for what is essentially his standard uniform. He always wear the black suit and then swaps out the shirt for the occasion. Formal; shirt & tie, not so formal;white tee, casual; jeans. When he adds some color or wear a really daring suit I’ll give the perfect 10. 9.5/10
She looks boring. Cute dress, but she could use a bit of color on the lips and a better shoe. Not a bad effort. 8.5/10 Total 8/10

    • Anonymous

These youngsters are making me feel like an old curmudgeon. I cannot give a 10 to any young man wearing a Fruit of the Loom-Looking t-shirt under a suit.(Yeah, yeah I know it isn’t one.)  Just can’t; I hate it. And the jacket is too tight. It’s pulling when buttoned– even when he’s standing at ease. And he needs to shave. He gets an 8 from me and that’s generous. (Besides, if you award a 10 at such an early stage, he has nothing to aspire to.) She is wearing a very cute dress and I too would like to see it rather than the stringy messy hair. I am deducting more points than you: 7.

    • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I’m not sure about the V-neck tee shirt, but I’ve seen so much worse lately that I’m giving him a pass. I’ll repeat what I said above. It’s a shame when properly hemmed pants are so uncommon as to be noteworthy. Also, he’s so perfectly groomed that I think he’s consciously trying to make up for how messy most guys are when they go out in public. 9.5 He loses a half point because I’m indecisive about the tee shirt.

I get the complaints about cocker spaniel hair, but she’s  young, and overall looks pretty great. She can get away with it. A colored shoe wouldn’t have hurt here, but I do love the ones she’s wearing. My biggest complaint is that damn smokey eye technique that will not go away. She has great eyebrows, but those two things together are just too much. She looks terrific in  the dress though. I’m totally envious. 9.0 She loses a point because her hair is a bit too long, and because of the eye make-up.

    • https://me.yahoo.com/a/dLUE.9h6zdoHMLprP6AQrSQpKt0CZys-#e58b4 tom

Him- Should have skipped the t-shirt and really made a statement. Her- I can’t exactly put my finger on it but there is something about that dress that seems off; maybe it’s the leather trim.

    • Sara__B

You’ve scored them both a bit too high, IMO. I can’t give a perfect 10 to a guy wearing a V-neck tee with a suit, no matter how young, hot, and otherwise perfectly attired he may be. 9/10. The young lady took an LBD with an edge and managed to make it look utterly dull with boring styling and lack of attitude.  7/10. (Thanks, guys, for giving that tired hair style a name. I’m sick of cocker spaniel hair, too.)

    • Amy Forestell

Is that the first 10 that you have given out? I can’t remember, but it is a rare occurrence at least.

    • Mary McClelland

He’s amazing. Why is he like 12. Call me in 15, Tay! Also, she gets a big ol Meh from me. She isn’t wearing that dress convincingly. She doesn’t even look like she is wearing herself convincingly. Also the shoes are a disgrace and the hair covers up 3/4 of what could be interesting on the dress. That dress belongs on Kristen Stewart instead or Haley Steinfeld(sp) who at least have the self-possession to make it interesting.

Taylor Lautner can do anything he wants to me. There, I said it.

    • Anonymous

Her facial expressions and makeup are beautiful.

    • Anonymous

My teen daughters are crazy about Taylor, and I just didn’t get it.  But when I saw the very first pic on this post I thought, “Dang!  He’s looking pretty good!”  Honestly, I think the reason he dresses so well is because he isn’t a classic Hollywood male beauty.  But he is really growing into his look, NO?  I hate v-neck t-shirts, but I actually agree with the 10.  It makes him look like a star!

    • Anonymous

Wow. He’s actually not sneering in any of these pictures! On the one hand, it makes him so much more attractive! On the other hand, now I have to conclude that it’s not just an unfortunate quirk of his face, and he really has been actually sneering in all his other pictures ever. :

    • Anonymous

I really don’t like the t-shirt with that suit.  Or, at least not THAT t-shirt.  He does pull it off well, but I still hate it.

    • Anonymous

I usually like long hair that is curly and/or wavy and can even appreciate hair that has a messy look to it but her’s isn’t working for whatever reason.

    • Wrenaria

I have no problem with the long wavy hair look, unless it is obscuring the part of your outfit that’s interesting to look at, like it is here (and also in JLo’s look). A ponytail or updo of some kind would suit this dress better.

And I have an irrational dislike towards Taylor Lautner that impairs my judgment of his appearance, so I have nothing to say about him.

    • Anonymous

Taylor Lautner is a mannequin who has the personality of cardboard..and I can’t get over the llama thing.

Cocker Spaniel hair reminds me of Lady Godiva..no

    • Anonymous

That’s very clever dressing.  He’s actually got an exceptionally long neck and normal collars sometimes look weird on him I find.  But this minimizes that beautifully.

Lily Collins is so lucky she doesn’t look like her father, though she needs to take a trip to Lourdes Leon’s eyebrow stylist.

    • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

Is no one noticing that he has stains on his pants, including on his crotch? Or am I just seeing floaters, and need to rush to an opthalmologist?

      • Anonymous

Looks like there must have been some rain goin’ on.  His right shoulder has spots on it in the last picture.  now, the crotchital region I didn’t look at….as it makes me feel like a dirty old woman.

    • Anonymous

I’m trying to be objective, but it’s difficult as there’s something about his face that makes me want to punch it. He’s looks OK, I guess. Nothing to write home about. I like her makeup, but that’s about all. I’ll be glad when this center-parted seaweed tangle hairdo goes away.

    • margaret meyers

The deep V in the t-shirt and the spreading opening of his jacket are doing strange things to his neck.  He has a nice neck, but these make it look like a strange neck.

    • Anonymous

OMG, he’s only 19 years old!  He was adorable on Letterman last week.  But, Taylor, for Christ’s sake, take some acting classes.  He is so bad in those Twilight movies (and that’s saying something that he stands out in that dreck for being bad) and the clips from Abduction are painful to watch.

    • Anonymous

A messy ponytail would’ve shown off the dress a bit better and still kept with her overall style, but otherwise they are both fabulous! 9.5/10 for him, 9/10 for her – 9.75/10 total.

    • Anonymous

good gawd he is a handsome young mister.

    • Anonymous

A 10/10 is that prancy little Ed Westwick in a plaid suit.  This guy’s a little dull.

    • Anonymous

He has great personal style and always looks good on the red carpet.  Always.  He also has a fantastic interview presence.

    • Anonymous

Not getting it. Looked at him and thought: omg he forgot his shirt. Not feeling it for him but then again I never did. And of course, I only recently found out who he was.
I like her dress. She is rather, um, non-descript no? I’m going back to the George and Ryan pics where I belong.

    • Lisa

My only issue with her styling is she needs to tone the 1980 Brooke Shields eyebrows WAY down – a little shaping and tweezing would do her wonders, because other than that, she’s gorgeous.  But those shrubs totally overpower her face.

    • Rachelle Neame

I give her a pass on the hair because it’s clearly raining out there. On the red carpet. And noticeably over Lautner’s jacket, so I can imagine that her hair looked sleeker and prettier before assaulted by the elements.
