Nautica Spring 2012 Collection

Posted on September 12, 2011

Can we just say, as very tired fashion bloggers in the middle of Fashion Week, THANK YOU to Nautica for the presentation of their Spring 2012 collection on the rooftop deck of the Empire Hotel? Because not only did we enjoy the presentation in a way we simply don’t when watching ladies stomp down a runway in fabulous gowns, but for once, we don’t really have to say much when writing it up. Yes, it’s the usual collection of preppy, nautical looks that we expect and that Nautica does so well, but let’s face it: it’s cute boys galore. We never saw so many gay male fashion editors in one place at one time.

We’ll just let the pictures do the talking from here on out. Enjoy, darlings. God knows we did. Now if you’ll excuse us, we have to go do an abs workout and eschew carbs.

As cute as the boys and clothes are, is this fashion? Why do they show during MBFW?

      • Anonymous

I agree.  Why is men’s fashion so boring?

This is why I hate to shop because there’s nothing of interest out there for men and when I do find something totally cool it costs more than my rent!

A few of those guys look like they’ve chiseled out of marble.

Other than Therapy on a Friday night, of course.

LOL! Thanks for my 1st guffaw of the day, scottyf

Love the typo:  “echew carbs”.  I would rather chew carbs than eschew carbs, so I think you are headed in the right direction.

        [clears throat]
Eschew—Verb: Deliberately avoid using; abstain from

        Don’t think it’s a typo, love ;-)

        [retreats to nerdy linguistic corner]
ps. I’d rather *chew* carbs too lol

Not to get TOO defensive on Sally’s behalf, but I think when she wrote her comment that the post must have said “echew carbs” and it’s since been corrected.  She clearly knew what the word “eschew” meant, or her post wouldn’t have made any sense.

I’ll take one of everything, please. Also, some of the outfits.

I always like preppy, nautical boys.

Well, there certainly are a lot of lovely young things to look at. The clothes?  Apart from a couple of color blocked shirts that look really fresh, the rest is pretty damned predictable.  But then again its Nautica. Hardly known for being trend setters.

It will all look good at TJMaxx later next spring…..

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

What I will say for them is that their clothes are uniformly well constructed from good quality materials, and the middle of the road styling means that much of it can become a wardrobe basic item, particularly for men who are not especially adventurous.

    • Anonymous

once again little dolls to play dress up with. they are all so adorable.

    • MilaXX

Nice to see beefier male models instead of emaciated chicken chest models.

    • Anonymous

Are men over 39 not allowed to model clothes ever? Or are we just not allowed to look at them? Yes, they are pretty, but I don’t have cougar fantasies. Where are the cute MEN with a little character and experience in their faces?

      • Anonymous

They’re probably hanging out with all the over-22 female models.

        • Anonymous

They must be pretty lonely, then.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

They reside in the same alternate universe with female models who are under 5’10″, over 120 pounds and more than 22 years old.  Unfortunately, even though the age demographic of the US is skewing further and further to the middle and older years the presentation of models just gets more absurdly young.

        • Anonymous

“the presentation of models just gets more absurdly young”
Oh I know. And different strokes for different folks. They are beautiful young things. But as a mother of a 22 year old boyman, these pretty boys are like looking at a bunch of my son’s friends (though the crew above is definitely better dressed). They are charming, but they have their limits. It would be nice to see a little eye-candy for my demographic. And that definitely resides over 40. I may have to visit that alternate universe.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

We’ll take that trip together and divvy up the hotties between us. M’kay?

          • Anonymous

Can I go on this trip too?  Surely, some of those older gorgeous men are gay….. I’ll do the screening process so none of you ladies get taken in by a closet case.  LOL!  I always feel like a dirty old man skeeving on these young models and, quite frankly, they just aren’t to my taste.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Of Course you can come along!  Not to mine either really.  Too young and to fur free for my more bearish tastes.

            • Anonymous

Thanks!  BTW, I love your screen name…..;)

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

              You are most welcome.
And thanks for the compliment. I come by it honestly, since I wear a kilt every day.  (EG)

I’m thinking, Kiltdntiltd, that you could fund the expenses of your alternate universe trip by just selling seats on the tour bus. You’ll fill it.

Hey whatever works to get us all there and back with our suitcases full of hotness!

Sure, ok.  Cute.  But I am in the mountain states.  I don’t think “Nautical” really plays here that well.  Perhaps if I drag my spouse to Nag’s Head or something.

Too preppy for me (plus they rarely show preppy clothes on the consumptive-looking skinny guys I prefer), but Nautica does preppy well & I kind of like some of the shirt patterns & the yellow-black/white-black striped swim trunks make me smile.

Though I’ll quit liking them, I am sure, once I’m inundated with them & their knockoffs on all the entitled bros and wanna-be bros who roam the range here-abouts.

I am tired of the American Fashion Idustry pushing these board shorts, or as I like to call them BORING SHORTS! Who wants all that wet non absorbent fabric sticking to their body? The USA is such a prude when it comes to beach wear, women are all but naked, but men have to cover up from the waist down to their ankles in these water pants! WHATEVER! Liberate yourselves and buy a speedo or two, or even a squarecut boxer swim brief! Just Sayin ;)

The clothes are fine. The scruffy guy in the red parka  and the guy  in the navy blazer and stripe tee are more than fine.  As Dan Alexander said get over the board shorts.  This group should have been in mesh or sheer speedos.

    • ALEX WILLIAMS

Once again, a bevy of young white boys selling their wares.  The clothes are pretty much the same as always (as your article suggests), but could they mix it up with an Asian or perhaps a couple of Hispanic models?

      • Anonymous

        ^This.

The clothes are dull.  They’re average at best and look like stuff you can buy at Target or Old Navy or H&M for a fraction of the cost.

And I agree… a bit more diversity with the hunky eye candy would be nice.

Finally, weirdo coincidence…I used to have an ex with your name.  He dumped me for an Asian guy.
