Heidi Klum in Thomas Wylde

Posted on September 29, 2011

You guys, Heidi Klum wants to serve you a big platter of FRAGRANCE.

Heidi Klum in Thomas WyldeHeidi Klum debuts her new signature fragrance ‘Shine’ in Los Angeles, California in a Thomas Wylde dress paired with Giuseppe Zanotti sandals.

Oh, Heidi. You’re just so very … Heidi.

These kinds of shoots are so weird. A dozen photographers wait around a hotel pool for an hour-and-a-half until she shows up, barely acknowledges them, picks up her prop, and then turns on the mega-watt smile like she just noticed they were there and is thrilled to see them. Then she quickly cycles through her repertoire of poses, thanks them, and totters off, surrounded by handlers.

The dress? Well, it’s certainly a Heidi dress. We’ll give her credit for this: she can take clothes that would look a little tacky on anyone else and make them look … not chic so much, but pleasing and eye-catching. Remember Marisa Tomei yesterday and her unfortunate blacksmith dress? Remember how we said the shoes looked a little cheap? Heidi’s wearing the same pair and somehow they look fine on her. Granted, they’re a better match for a dress like this than Marisa’s more out-there getup, but something about Heidi’s tenure at Victoria’s Secret University has trained her well to work these kinds of looks. And if this all sounds like a bunch of back-handed compliments, well…yeah. But she really does look great.

Are those skulls on her dress?

      • Anonymous

yes, and they are not the first thing that comes to mind when I think of “Shine”!

      • Anonymous

That is exactly what I was going to say. Skulls. There are SKULLS on her dress!!!

        • http://profiles.google.com/shawna.ready shawna ready

I think you must be under age 23 to pull off skulls on your clothes…. It just makes me think “emo teenager”

    • Anonymous

She looks great in this dress – it’s a bit tacky, yes, but she still can pull it off.  However…..does anyone else think that a dress that’s tight around the bottom and hits where this one hits makes one look a bit knock-kneed?  Or maybe it’s just the camera angle.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

She often stands in a sort of knock-kneed, non-modelesque pose.  I think it (at least supposedly) makes her seem a bit more approachable and charming.

    • http://profiles.google.com/scaponigro Sarah Caponigro

I guess that is why she is a supermodel! :)

    • Anonymous

      stunner

    • Anonymous

      Cougar.

      • alex

It really is. When I saw the first picture, I thought she looked like an Avon-Lady out to find herself a nice young lover on the side.

    • Amanda in Austin

The print on her dress is giving me the heebie jeebies.

    • Anonymous

She always looks great but I bet she looks especially fabulous before someone spackles on all that makeup and she’s just in jeans and a tee shirt.

      • Anonymous

Agreed. Her features are so beautiful that I would bet anything she probably looks her sexiest when she’s just lounging around the house with no make-up and her hair in a messy ponytail. Bitch.

    • Anonymous

I dunno. The print on the dress is making her look almost knock kneed. I don’t mind the shoes, but with the print and the weird pulling/gathering from the waist down, I’m not really liking this.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OYMPLGS7S7467GQMKEWJDJ3N4A Deb

I agree. The first thing I thought of was that she was standing with her knees together and it was far from flattering.

    • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

I like the dress, but Heidi’s hair and makeup are starting to piss me off a little bit. This season on PR, she can’t find a lipstick that doesn’t remind me of a vagina, and her hair is a mess.

    • BerlinerNYC

Love the name! If only it were “Shiny” instead, to be followed by “Tight” and “Short.”

      • Anonymous

Ah, you beat me to it.
        Brilliant minds… : )

    • Anonymous

Her smile looks really weird. But the dress is kind of cool, if a little tight.

      • Anonymous

Yah, it’s like when you’re standing there waiting for someone to take your picture and they take too long, because they can’t figure out the camera, and you’ve got this frozen smile on your face. Of course, they always snap the picture when you finally wipe the smile off your face and you end up looking really pissed off in the photo. Thank goodness for digital photography.

        • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I call that a method from “My Dad’s School of Photography”, because that man could fiddle around with a camera longer than anyone I’ve ever met, even after he had figured out how it worked. God rest his perfectionist soul.

          • Anonymous

Yeah, lol, we have a drawer full of old vacation photos, about half of which are of my dad and me, standing in front of some random tourist site, with either the frozen smile or the annoyed “today!!” expression. Mom was the one behind the camera and she could NEVER figure out what to do. My favorite one is of me rolling my eyes and my dad walking towards the camera with an outstretched hand, his mouth frozen in mid-sentence.

            • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

Oh my god, that’s hilarious. I’m crying from laughing so hard. It’s such a “couple who have been married forever” thing to do.

My brother seems to have inherited the tendency to spend forever trying to get just the right photo, although sometimes I think he’s just does it on purpose.

    • Anonymous

She’s got a bit of Farrah hair going there, doesn’t she? Those little skulls cannot look anything but high school goth tacky. But I do like the silhouette on her. And the length, for a change.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I think she looks fabulous…that length is so much better than her typical shorter-than-short skirt length.

    • Anonymous

There’s something about this outfit that screams “Real Housewives” to me.

      • Anonymous

        exactly

    • Tamara Hogan

I think Frau Seal needs to check in with Stacy and Clinton on age appropriateness. There’s the slightest whiff of desperation, of trying too hard, when a woman her age – MY age – wears skulls on her clothing. (Where’s your skateboard, dude?)   That said, the cut of the dress is very figure-flattering. I love the neckline, and the length.

Something about the rictus smile reminds me, vaguely, of dentures.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

I think the tightness of the dress is fine, the animal print is fine and skulls are fine, but she needed to pick only one of those elements.  With all three the whiff of desperation seems more than slight, I think.

      • Anonymous

That would be a hilarious episode of WNTW!! Can you imagine the meltdown when they try to throw all her short, tight and shiny dresses in the trash?

    • Judy_J

She looks a bit cougar-ish, but she wears it well.  I saw an ad for her perfume in this month’s Glamour magazine, and in very tiny print were the words, “Available at Walgreen’s”.  Heidi’s marketing to the masses, evidently.

      • Anonymous

Heidi is going to be one of the richest former models of her generation (based on her income, not husband money), I’m guessing. “Crazy like a fox” is the description of her that I always wind up at.

        • Judy_J

No doubt.  She’s created an empire.

    • Anonymous

I think she looks perfectly great in a “Heidi” way.  The dress fits her slammin’ bod fantastic without being too tight, the shoes work and her hair and make-up are the freshest we have seen her do in a while.  And….. this is a fragrance being marketed to a mid- low end market (Walgreens, ect. ) so this is a PERFECT look for that.  We can’t judge this from a pure fashion angle, it’s a marketing promo.  It’s a Kardashian move without having the unfortunate Kardashian whoreishness element.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Karen-Stephens-Bassett/1503492602 Karen Stephens Bassett

…the unfortunate Kardashian whoreishness element.”   Tom, you rule!

    • Anonymous

We should all look so good in a skin-tight ugly print (skulls?)  jersey dress with difficult to wear, somewhat clunky killer heels. However, the smile looks fake, really really fake. Like Tamara Hogan said below, denture like, a rictus grin. Icky at some level. Decidedly not upscale but not intended to be, either.

    • Anonymous

Whatever scientists study about what makes a face attractive, Heidis got it in megatons. She really could wear anything and look stunning.

      • Anonymous

This. People are always talking about her body, which is definitely fantastic, but I’m always like, forget the bod…just look at that face! It’s just ridiculously beautiful and her smile (which doesn’t look too natural here) really lights up her features.

        • Anonymous

I disagree.  I think her face is not her best feature.  It is somewhat masculine, squarish.  Reminds me of Brooke Shields, and kind of like Jackie O (with such prominent eyes).  And as I type this I realize that that look is generally considered more attractive than I find it.
But oddly while I see other things I don’t like as much (the wider/flatter hip/lower abdomen) – I do think that overall she is a beautiful woman;, it is just that I think the sum of the parts is better than the individual parts.

           maybe it is just me.

      • Anonymous

Yes, she’s got charisma.  But I’ve always wondered what it is she does to her eyes.  She looks so different without makeup on, it’s like she puts on a new pair of eyes when she does her face.  Maybe it’s because she also keeps a more subdued countenance during the times she doesn’t wear makeup?

    • http://twitter.com/VicksieDo Vickie Lord

I like the shoes on both ladies, as I am SO SICK of the 6″ platforms with 7″ spike heels.  YAWN. This dress is edgy and she looks great.  The weird prop though, is indeed weird~

    • http://profiles.google.com/thisiscelia Celia

Gotta give her credit for rocking those shoes better than anyone else before her, but I hate the dress. The animal print makes her look like a Real Housewife. I’m shocked she didn’t use this occasion to wear something super short and SHINY.

    • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

I love this dress! She looks great!

    • Anonymous

      She does look great.
I kind of love that her fragrance is called “Shine”.
It should be called “Tight, short and shiny”.

      • Anonymous

        that is hilarious.  love it.

      • Tamara Hogan

Or (chaneling Kors) “Slutty slutty slutty.”
Not that she is, at all.

    • Ozski

I think the dress is adorable and Heidi-appropriate, I am just so relieved to not see her break out another short black number. The packaging of her fragrance is pretty generic though.

    • Anonymous

She looks wonderful.  I still hate the black toenail polish.  But her smile is lovely.  Oh and to add – The animal print makes my eyes go all blurry. Why put a giant perfume bottle against a very distracting background? I would have picked a solid and put the bottle in front.

    • http://twitter.com/DresswithAplomb Aplomb Pomilio

The skulls are so. very. weird. I like the shoes and I liked them on Marisa first.

    • BuffaloBarbara

The little skull things seem kind of random (at first glance, for some reason I saw them as “recycle” symbols, which was also kind of random, so it’s not just that they’re skulls… it’s that they’re random).  But the random skulls aren’t my problem here. It’s the kind line down the front that the focal point of the print makes, like  landing strip all the way up her body.  Not feeling it, Frau Seal.

    • Addicted2Glamour

I love her hair and makeup here. And to her credit the dress is not incredibly short. This length works great on her. The pattern is certainly…ahem…eye catching. But it’s simply too tight. In a few of the pictures she appears lumpy and bulging  around the hips and upper thighs. And she’s *probably* not a  lumpy woman.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

It’s tacky. Yes she still looks great in it but that doesn’t mean it isn’t tacky

    • Anonymous

      She still has it.

    • Anonymous

She is just GORGEOUS. Mega-watt smile indeed.

But Heidi or not, I’m not crazy about the dress. The print is just a little too much. I think I don’t like the overall whiteness of it.

    • Anonymous

An animal print strewn with skulls, too tight, unflattering length.  What’s not to hate?

    • Anonymous

I don’t know. Something about the hair and dress is giving me a “Real Housewives of Orange County” vibe.

Undeniable things: She is gorgeous, has a fabulous bod, has an amazing smile, throws off good energy and charisma like nobody’s business.  But something about the way this look comes together isn’t doing it for me.

    • Anonymous

I am so glad she is not flashing her hoo-hah that I am giving her a ten. It’s Heidi Un-skanky.

    • Anonymous

It has to be asked, though: Why would anyone want to smell like Heidi Klum?

    • Anonymous

i think she looks smoking hot, stupid skulls not withstanding.  i still dont like those shoes but i will say they match better with this dress than with the one marissa was wearing.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

      Yawning

    • Anonymous

Love that she finally went for knee length, but I guess she had to make up for it by also going skin tight.  It must have been very amusing to watch her walk in that thing.  I’m fine with the tacky print and black polish but I really hate her heavy makeup.  All that highlighting is so aging.

    • Anonymous

Yeah, but she can turn it on, can’t she?  She looks marvelous but I hate that dress. Why would anybody cover themselves in that much animal print if they don’t live in Bedrock?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_C65IT4K6RYN4TWRMFJOI3VUDAI Olechka Milashka

      But she does look great!

    • Anonymous

About those skulls.  Thomas Wlyde is designed by a woman whose surname is Thomas.  She and  McQueen, working separately, launched the worldwide fad for skulls on  scarves, bags, and clothing that occurred several years  ago.  Thomas has made the skull her logo (you can see it at her website, thomaswylde.com), and she’s not averse to using it in much of her work. And why not? It’s made her a fashion darling and, I imagine, pots of money.
      I think Heidi looks spectacular.

      • Anonymous

I know they’re supposed to be skulls, but all I can see is: “Somebody help Heidi!  There’re Bugs crawling all over her dress!”

    • Anonymous

You’ve got to give Heidi credit…she still has “it”!

    • Anonymous

i hate that she smiled the EXACT same (kinda creepy) way in every picture.

      • Anonymous

It is the same picture just zoomed in differently.

        • Anonymous

it’s not tho…  of the four pics where you can see her hands and smile, 3 are definitely different pictures, as evidenced by either the size of the bottle in her hand or the placement of her fingers on the top of the bottle.  and yet the smile:  plastered on and a wee bit scary.

    • Anonymous

Best I’ve ever seen her look ( except for the skulls) She should wear that style more often instead of the tacky, too youthful stuff she usually dons.

    • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

The dress is tacky, but Heidi does not look like a Real Housewife. She has laugh lines, for one thing. She’s not a walking advertisement for plastic surgery. She’s so naturally beautiful that she glows. The Housewives mostly look like a bunch of miserable human beings. And, while the Housewives could make the most elegant gown look trashy, Heidi can wear a full-on animal print dress and shoes that lean towards tacky, and make the ensemble look amazing. Seriously, the woman is a friggin’ freak of nature.

      And I love the skulls.

    • Anonymous

I wonder who had to do what to get her to wear a dress that is not short, tight (well, not too tight) or shiny.  That person/tactic should be permanently deployed in the Seal universe……

    • Anonymous

Is there a reason that someone would need a gallon of any fragrance?  Why does she need to wear 5 inch heels all the time?  Isn’t she already like over 6 ft tall?  I think she would look so much more graceful in a lower, more comfortable shoe.  Oh, and skulls and animal print and skin tight and cfm pumps?  I’m surprised the dress isn’t 8 inches shorter.  As the duchess would say, “Tacky, tacky, tacky” or perhaps “Disco emo teen hooker.”  Plus, if the product is called “Shine” shouldn’t she be wearing gold lame?

    • Anonymous

I sort of forget how truly naturally beautiful she is. She certainly won the genetic lottery. I think she looks great here. I love the neckline on that dress and I’ve been a fan of skulls since they hit the scene a few years ago. Heidi looks fab here….although I won’t be buying her perfume!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=527150091 Pat Biswanger

“Victoria Secret University”  – love it!

    • Sara__B

Heidi look hot, as usual, but that dress does NOT make a good background for her perfume bottle. Obviously the point was “look at me” not “look at my new perfume”.

    • MilaXX

Backhanded compliment or not this is a good look for Heidi. The dress is a decent length for a change and the shoes look a 1,000 times better on her than they did on Marissa.

    • Anonymous

Those shoes do work with that dress.

    • Anonymous

She should wear that length dress more often.

    • Anonymous

That hair with that smile somehow make her look oddly like a news anchor, something I never thought I’d say about Heidi.

    • Anonymous

She is who she is and she knows how to work it. That skinny, below-the-knee silhouette looks smashing on her. The logical evolution from “short, tight and shiny,” even though I don’t expect she’ll be dropping that look any time soon.

    • Anonymous

She looks so much better in this length of dress, sexy but age appropriate. After a woman has zillions of kids and her face matures, in my opinion she should still dress chic-ly and sexy but less in your face.  This is the look for her, if she will only stick with it!   I thought I recognized those shoes, they look great with this dress.  Go Heidi !!

Love your description of the photo shoot, I can just picture it.

    • Anonymous

      She looks awesome…

    • Anonymous

She does look good.  Man, do I envy her those legs.  I’ve never had calves like that.

    • Anonymous

Are we sure this is Heidi? It’s not short or shiny, although it’s definitely tight.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

The dress looks to be too tight…it’s pulling across the hips and thighs. I think she’s a little too old for this but that the neckline is high and the hemline is low helps out a lot.

    • Anonymous

I love skulls but not animal prints…so very torn on this dress.  I like the way it’s made, though–it’s very flattering.  The shoes look better here but I still don’t really like them.  They do look summery (poolside, what a lame shoot with the giant perfume cliche), but something badass like some Iron Fist pumps would have looked awesome with that dress for a night out.

    • Anonymous

I don’t like it because I don’t like animal prints, but kudos to Heidi for not looking like she raided the closet of a 14 year old hooker.  For that, I’ll give her an IN.

    • Jeanne Glenn

For some reason, she’s starting to remind me of the Zsa Zsa Gabor.  At least in those pictures.

    • Anonymous

She looks like the girl with a tacky sensibility who married up and the other executive wives will never accept her. (Even though her chain of nail salons out-earns some of their husbands).  Or like a Real Housewife. She often looks like that in her dresses, but maybe it’s the print, this one is even more so.  And it’s baffling how tacky it looks to me, since it’s a good 14-16 inches longer than most of her skirts, doesn’t shine and has no sequins.

      But WHAT a smile.

    • Anonymous

Are those skulls on her dress? hm, makes it kind of interesting, instead of just your typical cougar dress.

    • Anonymous

I think what help her carry off borderline-tacky outfits are that her hair and makeup are always good, and her accesories are (almost) always appropriate.

    • Cheri Lee

I think its time for her to update her look.

      • Lisa

Yeah, she’s ventured into “trying to hard to stick with my old look as the years pass” territory.

    • Anonymous

I really like the shape, and especially the length, of the dress, but I just can’t get over that horrendous print. Say it out loud: Black and white leopard print with skull detail”. Come ON.

    • http://twitter.com/AileenBartels Aileen Bartels

The dress looks like it came out of the Victoria’s Secret catalog.  What’s with the skulls in the print?

    • http://www.facebook.com/raweiser Rachel Weiser

Why is her mouth so wide open? Bugs might fly in there :o

    • vmcdanie

It seems like all those years misspent watching Top Model should prepare me to make some critique about how you have to model THROUGH the clothes. And..well I guess I just did.

She looks fine, I have no complaint with the shoes. I looked at the wide shot and thought “Are those skulls? Nah, they are some doodle or design thing.” Then I looked at the close-up and, huh, yeah they are little scary skull people. Buy Heidi’s perfume or we will shrink your head too. Or something. I feel like there’s a subliminal message here.

    • Anonymous

i think she’s had some face-tightening and eyelid-lifting done recently. she looks great, but her face looks a lot perkier than it has in a while…

      • Anonymous

Something is definitely different. She looks, as they say, rested.

    • Anonymous

Actually, if I didn’t know otherwise I’d guess it was all 100 percent Victoria’s Secret. They have a really … tackyish clothing line.

    • Anonymous

Yeah, I noticed the shoes and thought they looked much better here. The rest is fine. It’s not amazing or anything, but it suits Heidi and she looks…good.

    • Anonymous

The dead eyes and the orange skin scare me. I’m okay as long as I focus below her knees to the cute shoes.

    • LocMama

The smile may not be natural, but it makes her eyes sparkle & lights up her face.  I smile like this & look like a doofus.  I have a Heidi bias because I think she has a great sense of humor & has taken herself from model to powerful businesswoman.  It’s funny how your perception of a person takes a semi-trashy dress into “Hey! She looks great!” territory.

    • Anonymous

      Skulls really? Those are distracting.

    • Mary McClelland

Her hair and make-up look really stunning.

    • Anonymous

Ugh.  She’s channeling a Jersey Housewife.

    • http://profiles.google.com/frank.ogden Frank Ogden

I thought that fragrance was called SWINE at first.
