2011 GUCCI Awards Red Carpet

Posted on September 06, 2011

Darlings, it was the 2011 GUCCI Award For Women In Cinema event, held in Venice, Italy. And guess what everyone wore on the red carpet! Go on, guess!

Abbie Cornish

Oooh, honey. It’s such a sharp little dress on you, but you look like you’re standing in a hole. Love that little pop of bronze at the waist, though.

Andrea Riseborough

We are more convinced than ever that this chick needs a tutorial on red carpet makeup. Here’s the short version: pay someone to do it for you. We’re all for a fresh and clean look on the face, but there are ways of achieving that while still looking picture-ready and red carpet-appropriate. She just looks washed out, shiny, and underdone. Cute dress, though. Could have done without the packing envelope purse. Something small and contrast-colorful would have worked better.

Jessica Chastain

Enh. S’alright.

Madonna

Never let it be said that Madge doesn’t beat a trend into the ground. Sweetie, the sunglasses thing was cute for a second, but everyone knows what you did to your face. The dress is pretty fab, though. We’re already over the ’80s redux hair.

Salma Hayek

Wow, she really is a trophy wife now, isn’t she? She’s certainly got the hair and questionable taste in clothes parts down pat. The skirt’s okay, even if it is a bit much. The bodice is wrinkled and puckered and looks ready to slide right off her boobs. The strap is Christmas tinsel. Sweetie, what’s the point in having a sugar daddy if you’re going to go out in tacky, ill-fitting clothes and Ann B. Davis hair?

“Ann B. Davis hair.”  Ouch!  It would easier for Madonna to wear a big sign saying, “I’m recovering from a little nip/tuck.  Be kind.”

Oh come on!!! Salma looks swell… especially with the backdrop of the Grand Canal…

      • Anonymous

Yes, but where is Mrs. Pinault’s wedding ring?!   All these ladies look great. Sure, there’s room for quibbling, but compared with some of the dreck that’s been dragged onto the red carpets recently, these all look chic, pulled together and appropriate.

      • Anonymous

But shouldn’t she have used Titian for inspiration for her hair instead of Ann B Davis?? “Lady of leisure” lounging-about-hair would have been more attractive.

      • Anonymous

Salma never looks anything short of smoking hot, but that hair is still pretty much boring and aging.

        • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

Yep. Boring and aging, in addition to being too severe for her face. (Gwen Stefani has the same problem)

Salma looks like Cote de Pablo in the last photo. Not a bad thing. It’s just something I noticed.

    • scottyf

After the awards, Salma is headed to the Meat Packer’s Ball with Sam.

      • Rand Ortega

& after that… their bowling league.

I’ve been wondering what happened to Ann B. Davis.  Jessica Chastain was also trying to channel her but missed by a few inches. And Madonna is channeling who?  Mae West, Vampira, some old hooker?

      • Anonymous

I think Madonna is trying to channel Walllis Simpson. She’s morphed into who ever she’s playing (even though I know she’s “directing” this time) ever since Desperately Seeking Susan. Or come to think of it maybe the characters moph into her..

        • Anonymous

If I remember correctly (no guarantee) she was doing that look before Desperately Seeking, and the character was kind of based on her. But she morphs, no doubt about it. She’s built a career on reinvention.

        • Anonymous

The pose says Wallis, the hair says Susan.  Could be she’s deliberately morphing the two together, reminding us of the last time anybody thought she had a promising future in films!

    • Anonymous

Ann B. Davis hair is spot-on.

    • Anonymous

      “Ann B. Davis hair.” Snort.

None of these do much for me, although points go to the gal in the purple patterned dress for choosing to wear a purple patterned dress.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1325734955 Robin K. Osterberg

Andrea Riseborough needs a push up bra as well as makeup… that is a dress that should be featuring “the girls” ….When the belt embellishment sticks out more than your boobs… you have a problem….

    • Anonymous

Let Madge wear her sunglasses, she looks so adorable and it’s giving me Who’s That Girl/ Desperately Seeking Susan flashbacks.

    • Anonymous

Ah, Madge the Merry Widow is at it again.

    • Anonymous

Abbie Cornish looks good for a woman standing in a hole.  I love her look.

Madonna should have skipped the surgery; she looked good and now she’s looking silly.  The glasses paired with the 80’s hair aren’t fooling anyone into thinking she’s 25, or even 45.

    • Anonymous

At first, I thought Abbie Cornish was Kylie Minogue.    I think her hair is pulled back too tightly.

      • Anonymous

I thought it was Hilary Duff!

      • Anonymous

I thought she was Kylie too! And I thought Riseborough was Mary Louise Parker. It was like doppelganger night on the red carpet!

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

And I thought Brittany Murphy had risen from the dead when I saw Jessica Chastain!

After Andrea’s lack of makeup I noted that Jessica Chastain’s eye makeup is too harsh.

      I do like Abbie and Andrea’s outfits/

      Ick – to Madonna

That’s it! Ann B Davis hair!

    • Anonymous

Anyone have info on the maker of Madonna’s glasses?  Recovering from a little nip/tuck or not…they are pretty fabulous!

      • http://profiles.google.com/thisiscelia Celia

        They’re Miu Miu.

    • http://www.facebook.com/charlotte.horseman Charlotte Horseman

I love that purple dress – something I have not seen before!

    • http://twitter.com/taijuuuh Taija HU!

Salma is becoming a shrinking violet. She’s so tiny now, and it’s not as if she was big to start off with. Do trophy wives not eat?

      • Anonymous

Depends on what the prenup states.

    • Anonymous

I wonder when Madonna finally takes off those sunglasses, if her eyes are now pointing in two different directions.

      • Anonymous

I was wondering if she keeps them on all night or just on photo ops?

    • Anonymous

I kind of love Madonna’s dress! Her belt looks like red carpet batman.

    • Anonymous

Maybe Salma is auditioning for “Real Housewives of Fashion Industry Billionaires”?

      • Anonymous

        With a cast of one.

    • Anonymous

I think all these women look good, but none of them knocked it out of the park. I like Salma’s better than you do, but I do confess a fondness for silvery-grays in formal wear. Her hair is pretty silly, though.

I think I like Riseborough’s dress the best, but agree a different clutch would have been better, esp. one in a beautiful green.

Oh Madonna, the jig is up. You need to learn to mess with your face WELL before you have a slew of red carpet events on your schedule.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catherine-Rhodes/602850414 Catherine Rhodes

Madge’s dress is ugly but her face is settling in. I heard that when people have a facelift they get black eyes. Is that the reason for the sunglasses???

    • Lisa

Ann B. Davis hair!  YES!  And you’re right, she does look like a total trophy wife.

Madge, on the other hand, still looks fabulous!

    • Anonymous

I think Madonna looks kind of fabulous.  Wasn’t liking her red butterflies/red sunglasses look at all, but think she’s working it here.  Love those sunglasses.

    • Anonymous

Salma Hayek is so sexy and so gorgeous, and all I can say is WTF? Ann B. Davis hair, indeed.

WTF?.2: Madonna. Is this her latest reinvention? I don’t know if she looks like a Madonna impersonator or Mae West’s change of life baby.

    • Judy_J

Ann B. Davis hair!  Love it!

    • Anonymous

Actually of all the dresses I kind of like Salma’s the best. But I give to you on the trophy wife thing. In fact, in the second picture her look and the way she’s holding that purse remind me of the Rose Byrne character in ‘Bridesmaids.”

    • Anonymous

I have seen dozens of pictures of Abbie Cornish and yet, every time I see another one, I say “who in the world is that?”  It’s the weirdest thing.

      • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

Nah, not weird. Same here, but I often ask myself that AFTER reading the name. :)

        • Anonymous

See “Bright Star” and you never will again. She’s so wonderful in that movie.

    • Anonymous

Madonna is starting to look like “aging Madonna” – like she’s going to receive a lifetime achievement award and go into hiding. Do love those glasses but yes, we know what she did to her face.

    • Anonymous

So funny, Ann B. Davis hair!

Madonna just has to realize that she is aging like we all are, her hair makes her look even older.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1303837450 Lauren Dorsee Dillon

All Salma needs is a big white stripe in her hair and a slightly different expression on her face and she would be a dead ringer for the Bride of Frankenstein.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Most of you are probably too young to remember the ventriloquist Wayland Flowers & Madame. But Madonna? Starting to look like Madame.

      • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I remember them. I actually saw them live (“live” in Madame’s case). And OMG, she really does look like Madame. Imagine if she were wearing a turban.

      • Judy_J

She IS starting to look like Madame.  Good call.

    • Anonymous

It’s pretty ironic that Madonna has spent tens of thousands on her face and now she is always hiding it behind sunglasses. Oh Salma. Anne B. David hair indeed. I like Abbie’s dress; I’m just not sure that she’s pulling it off.

    • Anonymous

No idea who Andrea Riseborough is, but I really like that dress, and I like it on her. The clutch is too big and too white.

Except for the tinsel, which is tacky, I like Salma Hayek’s dress, but the hair, the hair… Ann B. Davis?  Nailed it!

I like Madonna’s dress too, but with that high neckline and solid column of black, she should have put her hair up. But then I guess everyone would have been able to see the scars. Too bad she isn’t bold enough just to admit it about the surgery. God knows, she’s been bold enough about everything else in her life!

    • Anonymous

Oh, Salma! How I once worshipped thee. Ann B. Davis, indeed. She looks like she’s hiding a box of Kleenex in her hair bun. And I just want to snip-snip that Whoville tinsel strap away from that dress.

    • Anonymous

Ann B. Davis. snork. The first gown is the best. Love the pop of copper too.

    • http://twitter.com/sariebee sariebee

ANN B. DAVIS HAIR. I love this.

    • Emanuel Iuhas

      :)))   I totally agree with u guys!!!

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

See, I think Madonna looks MUCH better in this than the butterfly thing last week. How that made it “IN”, I’ll never understand.

    • Anonymous

Whoever Andrea Riseborough is, she should tug that dress up an inch.

    • http://www.facebook.com/chloe.stabler Chloe Stabler

Did anyone else see Madonna’s belt and think it was the Batman symbol?

    • Adella Thompson

Ok, Madonna needed to have the Bat Signal in her gregarious belt, because that was absolutely what my deranged brain put there when I first looked at the photo and I happen to have liked it far better that way!

    • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

For a second, I thought Abbie Cornish was Maria Bello. Anyway, she’s really cute and she looks great, even though the dress is too long.

Love Andrea’s dress, but I agree she needs a different bag, and some make-up. Also, holy cats, she’s gorgeous! (I had to look her up. She’s Mrs. Simpson in W.E.)

I’ve never seen Jessica Chastain look great. I think she’s one of those women who just doesn’t wear clothes all that well. At first glance, the dress she’s wearing looks like a jumpsuit on her.

Salma’s dress is fabulous, but there’s no getting around that Anne B. Davis hair (Ha! You guys are brilliant.)

Madonna is… Madonna. And she is ever thus.

    • Anonymous

Ann B. Davis hair. Abbie and Madonna FTW in my eyes. S’pose Madonna’s sunglasses are Gucci as well? They’re boss.

    • Anonymous

Judging from the exterior photos, it’s night.  I don’t care if you are Madonna.  Unless you have eye problems, you shouldn’t wear sunglasses at night.  It’s pretentious and silly, all at the same time.

    • Anonymous

Ann B. Davis hair – that has to be the funniest observation ever!

    • http://twitter.com/LeighGeorge Leigh George

Love how the canal backdrop looks very school photo

    • Mariah J

Madonna doesn’t want the world to see that she got old.  So much desperation.

      • Anonymous

Because, after all, 50 is death and the end of all creative, satisfying, purposeful life.

        *sigh*

    • Megan Patterson

When did Salma Hayek get so skinny?

    • Anonymous

Love the dresses but the hair!  Egad!  First PR, now the red carpet?   Is ugly hair in?

      • margaret meyers

The hair and makeup on PR has been so bad this year.  And the models — are they even professionals?

    • Anonymous

Madonna sweetie, the hair and glasses were fine. Once. Now I’m just waiting for the face reveal and hoping I don’t sigh and say “what the heck are you doing to yourself”. Abbie Cornish’s dress would look so amazing if it had been properly hemmed.

    • Anonymous

I don’t know who Andrea is, but I like her dress.

Salma definitely knew WHERE to have her picture taken, didn’t she?  Screw the ugly backdrop!

    • Anonymous

Once more, I have to disagree on Andrea Riseborough. Her hair and face are so gorgeous to me. I love the dress on her, too, but I side with you on the clutch. Dreadful choice.

Everybody else is a big old pile of zzzzz.

Jessica Chastain looks 50, not 30.
Madonna has to decide if she admires Nazi lovers or Sister Wives ’cause I am getting confused. Mos def she needs to retun Gay Batman’s utility belt.
Ann B. Davis hair.  You guys kill me.

    • Anonymous

The Material Ghoul is really bordering on whacked-out Sharon Stone territory here. It’s a look!

    • MilaXX

Abbie Cornish – pretty! Dress needs to be hemmed, but I like the look.
Andrea Riseborough – Nice dress, makeup could stand to be warmed up a bit & the bag is a bit too large.
Jessica Chastain – Good look.Madonna – The sunglasses look stupid here.
Salma Hayek – That hair looks horrible ad that is it her dress. What happened to stylish Salma?

    • MilaXX

I’m starting to feel embarrassed for Madonna.

    • Anonymous

Spot on about Salma Hayek — she does look like the ultimate trophy wife. Hey, it happens. Her dress really doesn’t even fit.

    • Anonymous

Oh, is THAT why Madonna is wearing sunglasses?

    • Anonymous

Ann B Davis hair – oh how that brings back the memories!!!

For the first time, I am offended by TLo.

YOU DO NOT FUCK WITH ANN B. DAVIS, BITCHES.    IT’S ON.

Ahem.   Sorry, boys.   Some things are Sacred.    Salma looks absurd.

Boring. Seriously. Copulatin’ snails is more entertain’ to watch.

Re: Andrea Riseborough’s toot ensemble— I love the whole shebang. The purse, the un-makeup, everything. (I don’t know why, I just do.) Smooches, Emmylou
