WERQ: Leighton Meester in Vera Wang

Posted on August 27, 2011

Hi Leighton Meester! Listen, we know we’ve been more than critical of you in the past and we hope you understand it was all said with love. Anyway, we don’t have much time right now, but we just wanted to take a break from filling our bathtub with water, putting batteries in the flashlights and taping all the windows to tell you something.

Leighton Meester in Vera WangLeighton Meester attends the launch of Vera Wang’s new fragrance “Lovestruck” in New York City in a Vera Wang dress paired with Jimmy Choo shoes and Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry.

gives her some funky hips, but overall cute and love the color and hair/makeup!

    • Anonymous

she  looks  lovely. this vera wang perfume campaign has been good for her style.

    • Anonymous

      Very pretty.

      You guys stay safe! Muah!

    • Anonymous

Nice.  I think the black shoes and belt are a little heavy for this color and fabric, but she definitely looks good.

    • Anonymous

Cute! Hunker down and stay safe T and Lo!!!

    • Anonymous

The dress is OK but not with the hair and accessories – she’s closing in on bee territory.  Also, don’t forget to tape around the liquor bottles.  This storm doesn’t need any more tragedies!  Be safe!

    • Anonymous

Not feeling the WERQ on this one. Cute dress, good color on her, but that’s as far as I can go.

I’m only really commenting to marvel at what a blogging machine you’ve been, T Lo! All these great posts, your radio show, and that uninvited bitch Irene showing up! Take the weekend off and hunker down! Okay, hunker down sounds like a racy euphemism, which it wasn’t…but it could be, if you want. Anyway, take care and stay safe!!

      • Anonymous

Hold the phone. TLo has a radio show? Does it stream online? Twin Cities fans MUST know.

        • Anonymous

They were on a show Thursday night.

        • Anonymous

Sorry. Poor wording on my part. They were guests on a Sirius show.

    • Anonymous

You guys are so cute. Cuter than the Lovestruck logo. Cuter than Leighton Meester in a kooky frock with an inappropriate belt. Cuter than the name Leighton Meester!

    • Anonymous

You guys are so funny…but just to save you some effort, in case you weren’t kidding-taping windows is an old wives tale.  All it does is makes your windows sticky.  And speaking as an old Floridian, by cracky, in the old days, we *drank* that tub water.  It was before bottled water was invented. :-)

    • Vaniljekjeks

She looks so cute!  Also, don’t get swept out to sea, my dear TLo.  I would be very sad.

    • Anonymous

The seam across the hips is far from flattering, especially when she sits and the dress pooches out. Not loving the licorice straps around the waist either.

      • Anonymous

That one seam definitely gives her a belly—which I don’t think actually exists.

    • http://twitter.com/bredalot Breda Smith

I sort of love that she’s styled like Aphrodite for a perfume called “Lovestruck,” whose logo has a little arrow. But we do need an Eros, here. (Let’s go with the Psyche-era Eros, not the Cupid-style flying baby. Am I right?)

“Tlo said: … putting batteries in the flashlights…”

Hey, save some batteries for the vibrators.

As for the dress, I like the choice of that unusual color. It makes me think June Taylor Dancers. I would have chosen a different belt though.

Hey, save some batteries for the vibrators.

Dang, it’s a good thing I put my glass down before I read that!

        You take care, too, okay?

      • Anonymous

Eh, looks like you’d have to evacuate a long ways to get away from this one.  I’ve taken in a friend and her dog from Battery Park City, and we’re already well into a bottle of wine while obsessively listening to Hizzoner (like he’s going to say something new!).  Funny, we keep hearing about batteries, water, go bags, but nobody mentions the essential mind-altering substances.  Stay safe, GT, and all you East Coasters facing the ultimate Mean Girl!

      • Anonymous

Don’t panic, dear GT! I think you live in a no-zone or zone C area, right? You’ll be okay – we all will!

        • Anonymous

Actually, the only thing I’m really a bit worried about is my car, which parked in an underground garage. I’ve been debating whether to take it out and park it on the street.

          —-GothamTomato

          • Anonymous

Oh, yeeks, yes. Of course, on the street it’ll be exposed to flying debris (if there is any) but you still might be better off. At least you won’t have to worry about alternate side parking.

          • Anonymous

GT check your insurance policy – I’m with BB. It will definitely cover flying debris and broken windows but probably not a flood. Good luck girl!  I put mine on the street because my driveway is under the oldest, creekiest tree in the hood. Million bucks says it ends up with a fence in the windshield. sigh.

            • Anonymous

Our is in a street-level garage, but we’re also on one of the somewhat higher elevations. I just hope everybody, everywhere will be fine!

            • Anonymous

I couldn’t decide what to do so I asked a cop at my local NYPD precinct. He said it was probably safer in the garage because outdoors it could get hit with debris. It turned out fine. I was actually worried about debris because I can see that some knuckleheads with balconies and terraces, across the street, did not heed the warnings to remove objects. Jerks.

A while ago, I finally got so tired of being inside that I went out for a walk to check out the neighborhood. It was earily quiet, and the cloud ceiling is so low I couldn’t see the Empire State Building above (about) the 20 floor. That’s the lowest cloud ceiling I’ve ever seen. The wind hadn’t seemed bad to me last night (I must have slept through it), but outside there were lots of downed branches, and some huge limbs. One beautiful old tree on my street is now leaning so far over, it looks like the sidewalk is the only thing keeping it from going all the way over.

All in all, I thought we got off very lightly in my neighborhood. Then I saw this:

              http://twitpic.com/6cmqy2

Look closely and you’ll see that a leaf landed on the ground in front of the Ryan Darius Salon! I’m sure there will be much hysteria and an entire A-List episode about it as they discuss how this could have happened.

              –GothamTomato

            • Anonymous

I was out walking the dog on the UWS, and not much other than a few small branches.   I thought the poor beagle would have to hold it much longer.  I even had pee pads for him, though I doubt I would have gotten him to use them.  I guess now I’ll have to make a really bad dress out of them!

            • Anonymous

Tragic about that leaf. We went our for a long walk in our neighborhood and saw one downed tree, some downed scaffolding (street level to begin with) and lots of leaves and branches, but nothing terrible at all. Glad you (and your car) made it through! Isn’t it strange, though, how shut down the city is? There were lots of people out walking, but almost all the stores and restaurants are closed.

            • Anonymous

Yes, actually, I wish it was like this one day a week. Peaceful. Just Manhattanites and European tourists.

              –GothamTomato

            • Anonymous

Just took a long walk along Central Park West.  The park was “closed,” but full of people nonetheless, with people walking under the police tape, with their kids yet.  There were some NYPD with megaphones trying to corral people out, but I think you’d have to have the National Guard stationed at every entrance before that’s gonna happen.  Personally, I feel a little more respectful of the tree branches hovering up there waiting until a day or two after the storm to fall.

I also see that it was Philly that caught more of the brunt.  Hope all is well, TLo!

            • Anonymous

I think the most annoying part of the weather coverage has been the local stations pre-empted all National coverage, so we didn’t get any pictures of what went on in Philly or elsewhere.

And I agree about the CP trees. Wasn’t there a storm last year that knocked over about 100 of them?–GothamTomato

            • Anonymous

Especially since it was Philly and elsewhere that kinda took the mean out of Irene so she hit us as a tropical storm (a term they’re seeming reluctant to adopt!)

And, yeah, there were well over 100 trees knocked out in CP, I think 2 years ago.  And there were precautions and cordoned off areas for days while forestry crews dealt with hanging limbs.  Not everything falls all at once.

      • Anonymous

We Manhattanites are pretty safe, though! Unless you’re in Battery Park City, that is… Thank god for living in Manhattan Valley. My best friend is living near Red Hook and she fled several hours upstate to her mother’s house, though.

    • Anonymous

TLo, I trust you have a fabulous “go” bag.  You know, so just in case you have to suddenly leave your home in the middle of a hurricane, you can do it in style!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_B53PQYXSJR4YJBV3J6BWYSICRQ Jamie

She looks very pretty, but I really hate what that belt is doing to her.

    • Anonymous

The dress is ok – love the color, but I’m trying to figure out why she wrapped a fan belt around her waist.

Take care, stay away from the windows and forget filling the bathtub with water – go for gin!

    • Anonymous

we just wanted to take a break from filling our bathtub with water,

      You guys be careful, okay?

    • Anonymous

I really dislike the belt.  It’s wrapped around her oddly and the positioning cuts up the lines of the dress.  I also think her hair isn’t right, but it might have been better without the offense of the belt.  The dress itself is cute, though.  The color is good on her.

Y’all stay safe, TLo.  Stay away from those windows, hunker down and take care of each other.  My thoughts are with you and I’m sending you good vibes.

    • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

I’m not feeling the WERQ. The seams divide her into three parts, making it look like she has a paunch where surely there is none. The belt just accentuates the issue. Lose the bottom seam, and this would have been a winner in my eyes; but every time I look at it, all I see is a woman divided in a way that doesn’t make aesthetic sense.

    • Susan Crawford

The belt doesn’t do much for the look, and I would have ditched the bangles, but otherwise she does look fabboo. Great hair and make up!

Hope you ride out the storm, T Lo. I’m sure you will do it with style! I’ve got my extra water, but most important, I’ve got my Provencal rose wine, some good cheese, smoked salmon and a pile of books to be read (by candle-light, if need be.) To all the other unborn fawns and bitter kittens stay safe if you are in Irene’s path. This bitch is almost as scary as NinahGahcia on a judging rampage: frankly, I question Irene’s taste level, don’t you?

      • Anonymous

But be careful of candlelight because of potential gas leaks from storm damage.  Or so I hear.  (God, I gotta stop listening to this stuff already!)

        • Lisa

You’re absolutely right!  That’s the thing, when people automatically stock up on candles – it’s really dangerous in case there’s a gas leak.  Always be sure to have a flashlight and tons of batteries!

    • Anonymous

I can’t say that I like the belt as it seems to be askew.  But the rest of it is pretty.

For the East Coasters, stay indoors, crank the A/C as high as it will go and close the curtains.  When I noticed that Jim Cantore was in NYC, I began to worry for you.  But, as my Dad always told me, “it’s not the wind that you have to worry about.  It’s the stuff the wind throws around that is the problem.”  And, may I add, the entire state of Texas would gladly take Irene from you if you’d like to send her down here.

When we southerners see Jim Cantore, we run!

      The seam around her hips?
      Yeah, no.
It’s awful. It ruins the whole look.

    • MilaXX

She looks cute, young & fresh. Well done Leighton!

    • Anonymous

Dont love the hip seam; ruins the line. Her bust looks a bit saggy for such a young woman. On the whole, it’s better than usual for her.

    • Kyle Crawford

Do we know if she is having a boy , a girl or one of each ?

    • Anonymous

Overall, I like the look, but that black belt bothers me. I know she’s wearing shoes to match, but the belt just seems like an afterthought. Perhaps another color would’ve been better?

    • Anonymous

No WERQy for me!  That is one unflattering dress on her.  The combo of the ill advised belt and the seam across the hips gives her a “OMG, my second trimester just sucks!” look.

    • Lisa

WERQ?  Really?  Listen, I love you two to bits, honest to god I do, but no way!  That’s “Bridesmaid in a Grecian-themed wedding” if I ever saw one!

    • Anonymous

Guys, there’s a hurricane coming for our area. I think TLo can be excused for issuing a WERQ under duress.

And as a side-note to TLo, even though it’s already been said: Don’t bother taping your windows! It does nothing. Personally, we’re putting tarps over our (shitty, not been replaced since the 1930’s, framed with rotting wood) windows so at least they might catch any glass blowouts.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3CGY36NG25QFIZQOLMH7SQTKLU andrew

WERQ, TLo?  Seriously?  Yes, she looks cuter than usual. It’s a definite improvement.  But the seam across the hips is unflattering and ruins the line of the other-wise lovely dress.  The clutch of bangle bracelets on both arms, with no variety, looks awkward.  The black belt  is akilter and draws attention to another seam at the waist, with which it does not match up.  The rings are annoying me, although I am at a loss to figure out why.  Silver fingernails?  Ick.  And in fact, that highlights the bad idea of pairing a yellow dress with silver accessories.  That’s just wrong.  No, sorry, not feeling the love here.

    • http://naturallyeducational.com/ CandaceApril

We’re on LI…so we stocked up on the red wine for the adults and water jugs for the kids…but then the Hubby was called out for National Guard duty!

You guys stay safe. I need your fabulous commentary to get me from Friday to Thursday.

Oh, and my SIL *is* having a Grecian-themed wedding so I need the cheap version of this dress. But without the weird bust seam…that’s distracting.

    • Anonymous

      very cute!

      boys stay safe.

    • Anonymous

considering I already lived through Irene when she blew past Puerto Rico: meh! ‘Course she was just a wee little storm then and I was without power for two days and without internet until yesterday…I spent the majority of the storm listening to the wind blowing on my blackout-ed balcony. It didn’t bring much rain, go figure. But you T and you Lo, get your bright yellow ponchos, galoshes, port-a-potty, and flashlights ready! (or maybe that’s just my father’s prep!!)

      anywho, Leighton.

This is a tropical storm Irene WERQ, not a category 1 hurricane Irene WERQ. On its way to being something fierce and all destructive, but not there yet.

      much love!

I can’t believe it. She actually looks like she isn’t on crack. Stunning. Though a tad costumey. I have to go check my sump pump now.

      Awww… she looks really adorable.

And stay safe fabulous gentlemen.  I think we’d all be very sad pandas if anything happened to you two.

    • Anonymous

Its better than usual for her, but I don’t know if I would go so far as to call it a WERQ.

However, it is a distraction from listening to the news and the descriptions of how the world is about to end.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

      Be safe, everybody!

WERQ minus – it’s clear that dress needed a belt, but that’s not the one it needed.

    • Anonymous

The color is (literally) cool, but the black belt…no…the length…no….the bracelets, definitely no….the neckline…no … and the dropped waist is a huge NO. My mother would call this dress a shmatta and she’d be oh so right.

    • Judy_J

Sorry, boys.  I must disagree.  That dress doesn’t fit well, that seam at the hipline makes her look like she’s hiding something.  And the black belt is all wrong.  Not so much of a WERQ as it is a misfire.  Good luck with Irene.  Wish we here in Texas could take some of that rain off your hands.

Not loving the color on her, but her face and hair are adorable! From the waist up she rocks. T Lo, stay safe!

    • Anonymous

I think the belt with the seaming on the dress gives her too many ‘tiers’.

On the Irene front – besides cranking up (or down) AC – to keep it as cold as possible in case we lose power – I had a friend suggest to me to do the same with fridge/freezer – that way the stuff will stay cold longer. Also, I would forget about the bathtub – I never understood what that was for unless to drink (ugh) – or to flush the toilet? And already cooked food  – like cold chicken – and Doritos – and chocolate!

    • http://twitter.com/Kaptain_Killjoy Nimith

Well bugger me, it’s Leighton Meester at an event and she doesn’t look like a cheap hooker! It must be a sign of the apocalypse. Stay safe, TLo!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=583505025 Kelley Comfort

Can’t say I’m a fan of the drop waist on that dress, or how the silk overlay adds more bulk to her body. I don’t think it’s a flattering dress for anyone. What I DO love is her styling since working for Wang. I think she tries far too hard to be edgy, often getting it seriously wrong on the red carpet, and Vera Wang are showing her that playing up her feminine side is what looks best. I hope she remembers that and continues to bring on a softer Leighton look. It suits her so well.

    • Structural Reform

Werq???! Please. You would be hating this any other day. The seam that runs below her hip to create a weird bump? The easy pairing of black shoes with black belt? That color? I’m seeing nothing but Macy’s dress with college-level styling.

    • Anonymous

OK, um, I just hate this.  I hate the color.  I hate that the Grecian dress is made in tiers and that the belt is too dark and heavy. I hate the way the seam on the left breast cuts across it and the tier defining the hip is poofy.  I am distracted by her bangle bracelets.  I have no idea what kind of shoes you wear with a yellow nightgown thingie but black bugs me.   Perhaps I am in a fit of pique tonight and poor Leighton is getting the brunt of it.  But UGH.  And her hair – can we see her hair?  Hmmm.

    • Anonymous

the placement of the belt makes it look like the dress is riding up at the waist.  maybe it is?  i don’t know but it’s making me uncomfortable just to look at it, so i can’t really get to appreciating the rest of the look.  or not.

      • Anonymous

        love the phrase “titscrepancy.”

Ditto. That damn seam is the first thing that caught my eye, and no one’s mentioned it! Totally unneccessary and weird.

Listen, sugar pops, I know like me you’re a tinge on the shaky side, all with the earthquakes and now this bitch Irene. I get it, really I do. But, as I’m running around throwing only God , Jesus and blessed Oprah knows into a suit case hoping against MF’N hope to get on a flight out of this end of the world BS, I had to take a moment for a little cocktail (pour yourselves one too), and to slap y’all (it’s for your own good). This is not working, No WERQ. The weird in what universe hem, the fug middle emphasized, by a cheap belt , and a front that makes her youthful tatties look kinda droopy. I know because I was running round in the mall earlier (before they started making announcements of early closure)  trying on a very similar type dress. Needless to say did not purchase said dress and started thinking maybe shopping today not so much a good idea, with the whole Irene thang looming. Anyways, only a true friend would call you out on an error such as this. So drink up and stay safe. Hopefully, I’m outtie:)

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F3HKIK7MIJMBDAQBDWEAQDTXUM theneva

Really? A WERQ for looking like a reluctant bridesmaid? Have her past showings generally been disastrous, then?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Erin-Hines/620149309 Erin Hines

Is this Werq because she doesn’t look like a fashion victim this time? Because that belt cuts her weird, the seaming on the dress gives her a tummy pouch and those shoes go with a different dress. Sure, she looks like the lights were on when she got dressed this time, but a WerQ? Don’t think so……

    • Anonymous

The seem on her hips makes her look pregnant, but other than that, i love the look

I think she looks luscious. Not like a doll but like a sexy girl, which is the right thing for a perfume ad.

Really?  WERQ, even with the weird hip-bulge created by the belt and the seam at the waist?  Huh.

    • http://twitter.com/drnels Nels P. Highberg

I love how she’s been able to stay professional and classy even while all that crap is going on with her mother suing her for money while her brother’s dying and all that.  I’m really growing to respect her.

    • Lori Greenberg

Can’t believe you managed to do a pre-hurricane “escapist” post, you both are amazing (and I really hope you are ok!!!). We are fine in Manhattan, we are on the Lower East Side, about 10 blocks from one of the danger zones, but it turned out the damage was not bad for our area, and for most of our loved ones. Others had to be evacuated further downtown, there was some bad flooding within walking distance, and lots of fallen trees. Thankfully, most here are ok, and am busy checking in with the relatives and friends in Brooklyn and Queens. Lots of luck and good wishes to you, xoxoxl

The more I look, the worse it gets.  Thanks to the comments here, I now can’t avoid noticing the random seam on one breast.  And if anyone has mentioned the uneven hem, I’ve missed it, but that’s driving me crazy, too.  Come back, TLo, from Irene-induced absence (no electricity? decamped to more inviting climes?), and assure us you were leaving us some comic relief to tide us over until the storm had passed.  You couldn’t really consider this WERQ-worthy.  Could you?

    • Patricia Biswanger

Would have preferred a lighter-colored belt.

Not even my delirium from 48 hours with no power and cleaning up the giant trees down all over my yard post-Irene can make me think this is WERQ-worthy. Hate the belt and shoes with it, hate the wonky hem, and hate that one of her boobs has been cut in two. But she is very pretty.

No.  No.  No.   The dress is lovely, but the belt just completely ruins it.  The dress has all this interesting seaming going on, and the belt pretty much takes the designer’s ideas and says “f-u”.  It gives her a weird pouch at the hips, fercripesakes!

      She looks adorable!
Hope Irene didn’t cause too much trouble around your way!

      I hope this means she’s gotten a new stylist…
