WERQ: Estelle in Farah Angsana

Posted on August 16, 2011

Sometimes, a gal looks so effortlessly fabulous that a couple of queens can’t help but give her snaps.

Estelle at the 33rd Annual UNCF An Evening Of Stars in Pasadena, California in a Farah Angsana gown.

Farah Angsana Fall 2010 Couture/Model: Paola

Maybe we’re not as in love with the mini-paillettes around the waist, but otherwise this is a tall, cool, fabulous drink of water. Could have done without the doorknocker earrings and the red of her lips is perhaps a bit too red, but these are minor criticisms when you take the whole look in. She looks spectacular. You WERQ that old Hollywood glamour shit, girl!

Although your nails look scary.

Okay, maybe we just like the dress.

I think the lips are perfect, not at all too red, especially compared to how a lot of people do it. It seems nicely toned down. Love the earrings too. She looks flawless, down to the fingernails!

  • Leslie Streeter

Child, please. She looks fabulous, all of her. And those nails complete the look. They say “I will WERQ it…all over you, minions.” Really, I wanna be her.

  • Anonymous

Oh yeah it’s a WERQ! Because just the look on her face is telling me that she doesn’t give one shit if I like her dress or not (And I do).

  • http://profiles.google.com/spring.mcmanus Spring McManus

That’s a gorgeous dress and she looks fabulous in it. Also, what a nice change to have a dress lengthened instead of shortened. It’s like bizarro land. Only fierce. :)

    • Anonymous

      i love bizarro land!!

From the top of her Get it Girl retro hair to the bottom of her Gunmetal sequined bod, she looks totally spec-effing-tacular.
    WERQ!

  • Anonymous

Love everything, especially the hair.  In a word, she looks beautiful.

  • Anonymous

    Oh ! A mermaid !
    Hum, sorry.

  • Anonymous

    I hate nails like that.

    The rest is fabulous.

  • Anonymous

I like the dress.  I could do without the train if it was for me, mostly b/c I would be tripping over it all night and end up carrying it everywhere, which would really ruin the drama.  The lipstick’s not my favorite shade on her, but look at those eyes!  Fab.

  • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

I don’t think any other woman alive could pull off that dress (maybe Halle Berry), but she did it. She looks gorgeous, confident, iconic even. Beautiful.

  • Anonymous

    hahahaha  -

“Okay, maybe we just like the dress.”    :o)

  • Anonymous

Hm. I think she’s WERQing the entire look, although I will agree that the gigantic earrings are perhaps a bit much with such a big ole sparkly dress.

  • Anonymous

It was WERK’D out for sure! The talons have to GO.

  • Anonymous

Definitely a cool drink of water! She looks great.

      Mr. Scotty–
You, sir, are on a whole ‘nother level!

Straight Up!  I love Scottyf posts.

Now THAT is what Hollywood should look like.

I have the merest of quibbles about her earrings (too square) and lipstick (too orange).

  • http://twitter.com/qrter Alexander Peterhans

She looks great. Didn’t she use to be a singer..?

    • Anonymous

Still is! She’s an English singer-songwriter and producer. She’s widely known for the catchy hit single “American Boy.”

      • http://twitter.com/qrter Alexander Peterhans

Yeah, I know.. ;) I meant that (to me, at least) she seems to have disappeared since her hit.

I love Estelle. She always looks stunning and fabulous. Girl is the personification of WERQ! Love this look on her. However, I have to agree with the boys on the issue of lip color. I think this is a bit too pink. Perhaps a darker shade of red would’ve looked a bit better.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

I don’t care for the earrings or the fingernails, but I love the lips, and the mini-paillettes are my favorite part!  WERQ it girl!

  • Anonymous

Man, what year is it? I expect her to step up and belt out “Cry Me a River” or something. Fabulous.

The strapless dress actually FITS her–heck, she gets full marks just for that.  Or at least her stylist does.

  • oohsparkley!

WERQ!  On my monitor the lips look great.  I don’t really like the nails, but it isn’t a dealbreaker.

  • Judy_J

    Looking GOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!  Well done!

  • http://profiles.google.com/awilsongirl Amy Wilson

I love the big earrings but am not a fan of the shape of them. Something about a square earring isn’t working for me but otherwsie, hell yeah, she looks awesome. And I love the color of her lips- it’s the color of red lips that I wish I could pull off- very rich and RED but not fire engine crazy red.

    • Anonymous

You’re right–it’s the shape of the earrings. The blocky squares are fighting with the long sleekness of the rest of her. If they were ovals or leaf-shapes or even elongated diamond shapes, those earrings would work for me.

  • Anonymous

She is dripping Glam. Estelle is working Mae West off that carpet. Luvvvs the shine and color of the dress on her . The lips go perfectly with this look also love the hair. You go Estelle!

  • Anonymous

The earrings are a little modern for this look, but overall I think she looks freakin’ amazing. Love that dress color!

  • http://twitter.com/warontara Tara

WERQ!! I can forgive the nails and earrings, as I am blinded by the sheer force of her fabulous.

  • MilaXX

She looks great! Fullstop. The only thing I dislike are the earrings, but she is WERQ’ing that dress.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lauren-Jean-St-Martin/504251897 Lauren Jean St. Martin

Dress is fabulous, everything else frightens me.

So are pointy nails, like opaque tights, back?

LOVE. (hate the earrings) LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.

    WERQ!!
I think the mini-palletes give her a waist which I think helps her straight frame.

I agree with all of your comments 100%, TLo.  Those nails freak me OUT.

  • Anonymous

She looks like a sea goddess! Sometimes a gal just needs to WERQ the sparkly. Bravo.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Teresa-Rebecca-Cunningham/100000219160779 Teresa Rebecca Cunningham

I love the earrings, they fill in the empty space where her hair would be and keep her from looking pin-headed.

  • margaret meyers

Outstanding hair and makeup — even down to just the right amount of moisturizer on her body.  She looks perfect.

  • Anonymous

Stunning.  That is the epitome of a red carpet look.

  • Rand Ortega

I’m swooning. Head to toe fabulosity!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catherine-Rhodes/602850414 Catherine Rhodes

    Hair is super pretty, too.

  • Anonymous

I don’t like mini paillettes either, you almost can’t see them, but you they’re visible enough to make you wonder if something wonky is going on at the waist.

    Love her eyes and brows.

  • Lisa

Ooooh, a sparkly mermaid!  I do like!

  • http://twitter.com/phreddd F. Eloy Vaughn

Underdone nails beat OVERdone by a mile! WINNER!

  • Anonymous

What an terrific color! I like everything but the lipstick. A bit too orange. Would love to see the shoes.

  • Anonymous

Whoever did her makeup did a GREAT job. She doesn’t look all shiny like so many women of color can look in photos, or maybe she’s just lit better. She looks wonderful, though I would perhaps prefer different nails, earrings and a deeper red in the lip shade. But her skin is flawless and smooth, and so she looks like she was poured into that dress. Classy.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I don’t ordinarily love that hem, but she looks fabulous.

    That’s glamor! Wonderful!

A-mazing.  Love that dress and the color – it’s so pretty.  Totally agree about the earrings and the nails.

  • Patricia Biswanger

There is indeed something odd about her nails.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_T53WBEPGJZ7MMMZC4O563YU5HA Observer

Real glamour again; don’t see it that often any more; most the time when I see the stars at these events my usual reaction to their clothes is WTF?

  • Anonymous

    Gorgeous.

  • Anonymous

Agree about the lips and nails but she is wearing the hell out of that dress! Gorgeous.

  • http://profiles.google.com/thisiscelia Celia

She’s just sparkling! I think the waist detail works very well from a distance.

    Absolute perfection!

    Absolute perfection!

  • Toni Mitt

So beautiful.  Reminds me of E Sosa’s bronze gown–a pure, simple design, but the fabric and styling put it at another level.
    She is WERQin’ it!

  • Anonymous

    Uh-oh.  I don’t like it.

  • Anonymous

That runway look. Without the fingerless gloves, it would be utter sex kitten perfection.

Them knuckles looking a little ashy! Other than that she is pretty well perfection.

  • http://twitter.com/Littlegrr Mary Nau

I love that dress on her, but that is where it ends, and her makeup looks like a mask, and while I like her little clutch, not with that dress.

  • Anonymous

I am in love with the color of that dress. Is it blue? Is it black? Is it silver? I don’t know, but whatever it is, I want to own everything in it. I want a car that color, I want all the lamps in my livingroom that color,  I want a wardrobe of that color, I want to freaking dye my cat that color. (He’s orange and white.) SPEC-freaking-TACULAR.

She looks like she’s been dipped in hematite and allowed to crystallize. Her whole look is absolutely splendid.

  • Anonymous

Love! The lipstick takes the look to a 1950′s place that I find fabulous.

    • Anonymous

Yea from me for the lipstick too. First glance–with the hair and lipstick, she looked so 1950s-in-a-good-way.  So “Perry Como Show” and “Your Hit Parade.”  The dress is gorgeous. Fabulous, indeed!

  • Anonymous

She looks fantastic! Not a fan of the pointy nails but when you look like this who the heck is looking at them anyway? WERQ it!

  • Anonymous

    Wow! She looks amazing.

  • Anonymous

I liked it better with the fur, even as an evening gown I would have preferred it.

  • http://profiles.google.com/ballinger.jl Jessica Ballinger

Please tell me long, sharp nails aren’t going to become a thing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/raweiser Rachel Weiser

Je n’adore pas the hair and perhaps the accessorizing but DAMN. Girl, you WERQ that shit!

  • akprincess72

Those earrings are beyond hiddy, I always have despised them. Not a huge fan of the lip color, but the clutch is cute.  The hair & dress are perfection!!!
