WERQ: Mila Kunis, Dolly Birding in London

Posted on August 03, 2011

She always gives us something to talk about and we generally like her red carpet style, but we think Mila really nails it when she’s in less formal surroundings. Let’s go to the tape.
No one under 30 has ever heard that last sentence un-ironically.

Mila Kunis arrives at the Radio One studios in an Oscar de la Renta dress paired with Brian Atwood “Zenith” pumps and blue clutch by Chanel.

Oscar de la Renta Resort 2012 Collection/Model: Emily Senko

A-FREAKIN-DORABLE, amirite, ladies?

Such is the adorable power of this look that we don’t even have anything bitchy to say about the nude platform pumps with an ankle strap, which is like the trifecta of Things About Ladies’ Shoes T Lo Bitch About The Most. The clutch is cute too, but for us, it’s really about that super-cute dress, which looks … smashing on her. Do Brits still say “smashing?”

Mila Kunis leaves TV studio in a Cacharel dress paired with a Chanel clutch and Elie Saab shoes.

Cacharel Fall 2011 Collection/Model: Tayane Leão Melo (ELITE)

BIG GAY HUZZAHS ALL AROUND.

Come on, that dress is uber-smashing, yes? Not quite as enamored of the shoes, although we’ll admit they’re a good choice for this dress. And while we love that she recycles her borrowed accessories, we’re not as in love with that purse paired with this dress. Also, the aviators make her look like Lindsay Lohan.

But the DRESS, you guys. How fabulous is that? Bitchy queens like us are paid to have quibbles, but the overall look is head-turning and fun.

I was gonna say she resembles Katie Holmes in that last set. But man, that Cacharel dress is AY-MAY-ZING. Who knew navy blue could look so summery?

      • Anonymous

I always think of navy as the summery alternative to black.

        • Anonymous

Agree, H3ff, navy is absolutely a summer color!

      • Anonymous

I was thinking Katie Holmes, too, only dressed much much better.

These two dresses really are adorable on her.  Lovely.

    • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

Fabulous look. The first one looks better on her than the model.

      LOVE HER!!!!

    • Anonymous

The gurl is too many Hot things! Both dresses suit her rock’n body and love the Brian Atwell shoes on her .

    • Mariah J

      Love these looks, WERQ!

    • Anonymous

Oooh, both dresses are super cute but I really love that second one!

And I’m 28 and remember “let’s go to the tape.”  :)

      • Anonymous

26 and I remember it too, we’re all not as old and crumbly as we thought :)

      • Anonymous

        sames!

    • Anonymous

What I love about her is this sense of effortless confidence she just exudes. I look at her and I never, ever, feel like her clothes are wearing her, even when they’re not my fave looks from her.

      • Maria Acosta Cruz

Agree. I think that “effortlessness” extends to her acting.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I love both the dresses, I love that second pair of shoes (although those heels make me wince).  Mila does love her blues and greens, doesn’t she?  She has such nice legs, and a short, simple little dress like the second one really shows them to advantage.

    • Anonymous

Love these.  I’m not into dresses for me, but I’d wear both.  ESPECIALLY if I looked like Mila Kunis.

    • http://profiles.google.com/ballinger.jl Jessica Ballinger

That second dress is the most fabulous casual look I have EVER seen.  Love it!!

    • Rand Ortega

      *Le Sigh*
Delish. She looks Divooon both looks!
      2 Snaps Up!

Hard to focus on Mila when there’s a woman HAULING ASS right behind her!

        I know – totally funny!

      • Anonymous

I didn’t even see that before, and upon looking I nearly spit out my couscous.  Hilarious!

      • Anonymous

FUNNY –  She even has that OMG look on her face, like somebody’s assistant running late.

      • Anonymous

The funnier one is the guy (oh lord I hope it’s a guy) in the background of the second set of pics, crossing the street in clothing that was apparently put in a bin by a street clown….

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_35OW6VJZLWTQDQHS4JLRTVC2JA Akumabunny

And the man in the first picture (only arm & leg visible) looks like he’s performing a soft shoe routine.

      • Anonymous

I know. It was one of the first things I saw and it cracked me up.

    • Anonymous

I think she deserved a WERQ for these.  Girl is freakin’ gorgeous, and she knows how to show off her legs without looking like trailer trash.  If I was 10 years younger and many times richer, I’d be ordering that Cacherel dress.

      • http://www.tomandorenzo.com Tom and Lorenzo

        WERQ retroactively granted.

          Huzzah!

she is so freaking cute – who is her stylist! great work. BA-NA-NAS

      • Anonymous

Speaking of BA NA NAS, just read that Rachel Zoe’s 4 month old son’s closet has $50,000 of clothing.  How is that even possible?

        • Anonymous

Gifts from clients and suppliers?… Maybe that total includes a $15,000 Vuitton diaper bag?…

        • Anonymous

Maybe he has the Olsen twins’ $39,000 croc backpack.

          • Anonymous

That made me laugh out loud….

            • Anonymous

              Great Kims think alike!

          • Anonymous

Maybe Rachel Zoe carries him around in it!

    • Anonymous

Snashing indeed!  Change the glasses and she’s get a snap.

    • http://profiles.google.com/hillaryschuster Hillary Schuster

I thought she looked like Kate Middleton in the aviators.

I want to own that first dress so bad.

I sooo want that last dress! Talk about smashing! Huzzah indeed.

    • Anonymous

Aw, she looks beautiful in both of these looks. I love and want both of those dresses.

    • http://visceralresponse.com Dina dV

I think saying FAN-tastic in an Eddie Izzard voice would sum up her looks in an appropriately British way.

      • Anonymous

Anyone who quotes Eddie Izzard goes immediately to the top of my What an Interesting and Delightful Person! list! :)

amen sister. just don’t let eddie advise her on shoes…  [i'm looking at you boots from Dressed to Kill]

    • http://www.facebook.com/WendyLKaufman Wendy Kaufman

Too many straps on the T-Straps, but yes, I agree, who cares? LOVE that second dress.

    • http://twitter.com/scriptgrrl scriptgrrl

This is how I wish Cathy Cambridge dressed. They have the same figure & hair.

      • Anonymous

Well, Cathy probably couldn’t get away with the length (or lack of length) due to royal edicts, but the rest would be perfect for her.  Do the English still say “spots” instead of polka dots?

      • Anonymous

i was actually just thinking the same thing, similar figures for sure but Mila is a wee little bit of a gal while Cathy is model tall.

      • Anonymous

        My thoughts exactly.

    • Anonymous

I think she is just smashing in general, with good taste to boot.

    • Anonymous

I love, love, LOVE that first dress and got all excited when I saw it. Then I saw the credit ‘Oscar de la Renta’ and just sighed because I’d never be able to afford it.

      Oh well.–GothamTomato

    • Anonymous

The aviators are my one quibble – everything is is A+.  It takes a special outfit to get TLo to give a pass to a T-strap that has an additional ankle strap!

      • Anonymous

O, how I wish the edit function would work for me!  I meant “everything else is A+”.

    • Anonymous

I adore both these dresses, but, (a teeny-tiny but), and I may be alone in this, I think the Cacharel should have been a little bit longer, not because of Mila’s legs, cause they’re fabulous legs, but the proportions of the solid part of the top and the print bottom seem a bit off, as in they are too similar and the solid navy part needed to be longer. Just a feeling I get.

    • Judy_J

She looks great in both dresses.  I especially love the Cacharel, and those Elie Saab shoes are calling me.  I love, love, love that look, head to toe!

    • Anonymous

      Not loving the second look.

    • Anonymous

She cheers me up just looking at her. A pretty girl in pretty dresses. Well-played, Mila.

    • Anonymous

      LOVE that Cacharel dress!

    • Anonymous

I love the design on that clutch. Look at that little strap! I want to marry it and have little quilted blue babies.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BA6BTBV4V3MQRX6K2HDEL7Y7TU MerridithK

Hooray!  She looks really fabulous in both these looks.  It’s nice to see a beautiful young starlet who also seems so grounded in real life.

    • Anonymous

Wonder if we’ll see Shelley O in the Oscar de la Renta with the cardigan and belt before too long.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

      Adora-hot.

I vastly prefer her take on the de la Renta dress.  This is the sort of summer style to which I aspire.  *swipes clutch and shoes*

    • Anonymous

Wow!  Two for two!  She looks fabulous in both sets of photos!  Young and fresh and on top of the world.  The Cacharel dress is very pretty, and it fits her beautifully.  The Oscar de la Renta is just a beautiful dress, period. It’s the kind of dress that makes women–regardless of size, body build, or age–say, “I want that dress!”  I know because that’s what I’m saying, and sadly, I could no longer wear a dress like that and go out in public.

Sidebar: TLo, do you think that anyone under 30 knows what “dolly birding” is?… :)

      • Anonymous

I am over 40 and I thought that “Dolly Birding” must be some actress that I had never heard of, and was a bit confused that the post only featured Mila Kunis . . .

    • Anonymous

I like both dresses, although I think the second one needs to be a smidge longer – the proportions seem a bit off.

    • mcarlson

I have this secret love affair with polka dots. She looks wonderful. AND NOT LIKE A HOOCHIE!!! See how it’s done, starlets?!

    • Alyssa Stanfield

      Both looks are amazing!!!

    • Vaniljekjeks

She looks gorgeous.  The shoes in both these looks would normally make me make a “geuckch” noise, but she pulls them off and they are nice and add to the look.  At least the nude ones aren’t made of silly putty.

    • Lies L.

I always liked her, but lately I’ve grown to love her – and her outfits are usually amazing.

    • Anonymous

Love the Cacharel on her.  WERQ is right

    • Anonymous

Gorgeous.  She looks so much better in those two dresses than many starlets do in red carpet appearances.

    • Anonymous

I was thinking the aviators made her look like Michael Kors. And the bag looks empty (why bother with it).
Otherwise she looks great in both dresses.

    • aussiegal77

The dresses are both fantastic, I want one of each.  I’m less sure about the choice of shoes for either, though.  I LOVE that Chanel clutch, in exactly that shade of blue.

    • http://twitter.com/kmc1138 Kathleen Coyle

The more I see of her the more I . . . .how do you say?  “LUV HUH”?  Those t-straps are fan-freakin’-tastic, and she’s rocking that Cacharel dress about a thousand times harder than the runway model.  The Oscar de la Renta screams “France” to me.  Is she in France?  She should be in France.

Have you guys seen the video that’s making the rounds of her smack talking a reporter in Russian?  To quote a friend: “Has a foxier fox ever foxed?”

    • Anonymous

This girl is in serious danger of being deemed to have Good Taste.  How will she ever survive in Hollywood?

I see she’s borrowing her London color palette from the Duchess of Cambridge, which isn’t really that bad, I guess, particularly given their identity of hair/skin color and tone, yes?

(Seriously, guys, I thought you were going to destroy her for the double ankle and t-strap Ellie Saabs.)

She is getting two snaps from me for these outfits!

    • Kate Lorenz

In the first set, it looks like she’s dressing up as Kate Middleton for Halloween.   Hair, shoes, tiny clutch, navy knee length dress…everything!

    • http://twitter.com/J_Conn John

      It’s “Major” now, not “smashing”.

    • steve martin

I can’t help but think if Cathy Cambridge would go this direction a little more, we’d all be happier. . . .

    • Megan Hutchison

She looks so pretty here, I can’t believe how cute these dresses are. I brought this dress http://www.hifashion.co.nz/shop/Skirts++Dresses/Karen+Walker/Karen+Walker+Tennis+Dress+-+Giraffe+Print+-+Navy.html which is a little similar and now I know what to wear it with!

    • Anonymous

I LOVE those sleeves on that Cacharel dress, so much that I didn’t notice the gyno length on it until a second glance! I have a dress very akin to the first one, only mine was $35. Love my dress..and hers. :)

    • Anonymous

Mila looks great in both.  She has a really good sense of style.

The aviator sunglasses too dark and casual for the 2nd look…something more stylish with a lighter frame would have been the perfect touch to add some brightness up top to contrast the darkness of the upper portion of the dress.

    • Anonymous

      I want that clutch!

    • Jacqui

I am a dress girl and I am loving these two. I wish I could afford (or that they made it in my size) the first one…sigh

    • oohsparkley!

WERQ!  I love it all. Except the shoes – The big platforms on dress shoes is tiresome.  I especially don’t like when the platform is wrapped with the top of the shoe.  It makes the feet look like they are deformed.  But they are the current trend, so I’m giving her the pass on the shoes and the WERQ for the both looks.

    • MilaXX

She looks great in both dresses. Add a bit of length to them and Kate Middleton would look great in both and not look quite so dull. My nitpicks go to the second dress; I hate T straps the way you guys hate ankle straps and so I think those shoes are hiddy. Also the bag doesn’t work as well with the second dress.

    • Anonymous

So cute. Like the first better, probably because I prefer those shoes and the longer, fuller skirt.

    • Anonymous

Love everything about both looks.  Even the shoes, and I hate platforms.  Did she wear the white Eli Saab ones in Moscow?  I think so…I liked them then and I like them now.

The Duchess would look great in both outfits.  The first one wouldn’t even need lengthening or tweaking.  I doubt that she could ever wear something as short as the Cacharel dress but she’d look great in it if she could swing it.  Maybe she’ll wear it privately for Wills.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=816120314 Chason Dailey

Some Betty Draper white wayfarers with the second dress in place of the aviators would have been epic.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YMEB3XKJCE4WL62SKN473LWBXQ Frank

oops! i read that as quitchy beens!!

    • Anonymous

      Want all the things!!!

    • Anonymous

Cute! I think the first set of shoes work partly because they’re matte(-ish?) I feel like it’s often the shiny plastic vibe that takes nude shoes into yuck-ville. It’s not bad in matte, as long as it doesn’t clash with skin tone.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

I love both of these looks, she looks amazing.  I especially like the 2nd dress and the shoes give it a 60’s mod vibe to me.

    • Anonymous

Change the awful, clunky shoes in both sets and you have a clear fashionista winner. She probably already is, considering the pervasiveness of the uber-platform in its few ankle -breaking variations.

    • http://profiles.google.com/richixcore Richi Robilotto

The “nude” shoes work with her, because she has a darker skin tone. “Nude” shoes only work when they do not match the wearer’s skin color, other wise it looks like their feet ARE pumps, and quite frankly, that effect really freaks me out sometimes,

    • Anonymous

How impeccably WOW! Especially the Cacharel dress. I used to like Mila; now I adore her! T Lo, I know how you would hate to start a rumor, but wouldn’t it be impish fun to post a snap of the backview of Mila in the Cacharel and caption it something like: Cathy Throws Decorum To The Wind! Or… “Screw Royal Protocol” says the Duchess, “I Just Shaved My Legs And I’m Wearing This Dress!”

    • Anonymous

LOVE both dresses. She looks so fresh and pretty. Surprisingly I’m kind of digging the Elie Saab shoes too.

Do NOT degrade her by comparing her to Lindsay Lohan. LL is a walking disaster, and it gives her too much credit to say aviators are her thing…

Hahahaha, I was thinking, “That’s Frickin’ A-DOR-able!”  Then I scrolled down and hit your A-FREAKIN-DORABLE comment.  Spot on!!

The aviators do not do favourable things to her face.  The Cacharel looks like something Mrs. Cambridge would wear.

    • Anonymous

She can get away with those sorts of shoes because her feet are so well shaped! Small and slim. WERQ it, indeed.

      • Anonymous

Indeed . . . And it doesn’t hurt that those feet are attached to a very nice pair of legs — neat little ankles sure help, too, esp. with the strappy shoes.
        Reet Petite!

    • Anonymous

Love the first look top to bottom.  Can’t get behind the second one.  The dress is kind of cute (kind of!), but everything else about her look is dead wrong.  The clutch, not with the dress; the shoes, ditto; the specs, GOOD GRIEF NO.

      • Anonymous

I also think the second dress begs for a ponytail.

    • Anonymous

Is every female in England required to wear those nude shoes?

The first look minus the polka dots reminds me strongly of Cathy Cambridge.

she looks adorable in both pictures.  is that tim gunn tap dancing next to her in the first photo?  the second dress looks just like pucci in the sixties.

I think this is what kate middleton would wear if she wasn’t hindered by the royal propriety
