Meet the Project Runway All Stars *UPDATED*

Posted on August 08, 2011

Precious Unborn Fawns, are you ready to see who signed on to be in Project Runway All Stars? Brace yourselves; some of these names will make you say “YAY!” while others will make you say “Oh. him/her again.”

UPDATED WITH PRESS RELEASE GOODNESS!

“NEW YORK, NY (August 8, 2011) – Project Runway fans — and more than a dozen of the Emmy® Award-nominated series’ past contestants — will have to wait no more.  Lifetime today announced the new judges, mentor, host and 13 of the show’s most talented, memorable, opinionated, adored and feared designers as contestants for its eagerly anticipated all new unscripted series, Project Runway All Stars.  As they face the most demanding challenges in the history of Project Runway to claim the highest stakes ever for the franchise, each designer will have the rare opportunity to redeem themselves before an entirely new panel of fashion experts closely reviewing their work.  World-famous designers Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman will serve as judges on the new series, which will be hosted by supermodel Angela Lindvall and feature fashion tastemaker and Marie Claire Editor-in-Chief Joanna Coles as mentor for the Runway veterans.”

“The Project Runway All Stars designers include:

  • Austin Scarlett (New York) – Season One, Fourth Place – Winner of Project Runway’s first ever challenge, Austin wowed judges and viewers alike with his eccentric ball gowns and ability to produce glamorous fashions under tight deadlines, including a gown made entirely out of cornhusks.
  • Kara Janx (New York) – Season Two, Fourth Place – Best known for her signature wrap dress, a kimono dress and her girly, flirty clothes featuring an urban vibe, Kara lasted 11 episodes before being eliminated in Season Two.
  • Elisa Jimenez (New York) – Season Four, 10th Place – Famously remembered among her fellow competitors and viewers for marking her clothes with spit, rather than a fabric pencil.
  • Rami Kashou (Los Angeles) – Season Four, Runner-up – Recognized for his signature Grecian-style draping look, made it to the final two of Season Four before losing to Christian Siriano.
  • Sweet P/Kathleen Vaughn (Pasadena, CA) – Season Four, Fifth Place – Perhaps best-known for her club-influenced garments and retro pieces, her baby-doll inspired dress wowed judges during Season Four.
  • Jerell Scott (New York) – Season Five, Fourth Place – A hit on Season Five, creating stunning and opulent designs before his love of bling on his dresses led to his downfall.
  • Kenley Collins (Brooklyn) – Season Five, Second Runner-up – One of Project Runway’s most controversial contestants who regularly talked back to judges and had run-ins with other Season Five designers, is best-known for her vintage, flapper-inspired looks.
  • Gordana Gehlhausen (San Diego) – Season Six, Fourth Place – One of Project Runway’s more experienced designers, made it to the 12th episode of Season Six by showcasing her signature knit and crochet wear.
  • Anthony Williams (Atlanta) – Season Seven, Fifth Place – Known for his competitive spirit and hilarious one-liners, his aesthetic for bold and striking colors and sequins was seen throughout his designs.
  • Mila Hermanovski (Los Angeles) – Season Seven, Second Runner-up – Her overly confident and opinionated personality took her to the final three in Season Seven, when she chose to show a black and white collection inspired by shadows at Bryant Park.
  • April Johnston (Savannah, Georgia) – Season Eight, Fifth Place – The second-youngest contestant ever to appear on Project Runway, best known for her dark textures and grunge-inspired pieces.
  • Michael Costello (Palm Springs) – Season Eight, Fourth Place – Most known for no formal training and his signature draping style, was followed by accusations and controversy throughout Season Eight.
  • Mondo Guerra (Denver) – Season Eight, Runner-up – Won three challenges in a row in Season Eight with his eye-popping and heart-felt designs, bravely revealed his HIV positive status on the show, placing second in one of Project Runway’s most talked-about endings ever.

These designers will each vie for the most lucrative prizing ever in Project Runway history.  Prizes include an exclusive designer’s boutique in select Neiman Marcus stores and on NeimanMarcus.com, $100,000 dollars in technology and office space to help grow their business from HP and Intel, $100,000 cash from L’Oreal Paris, a feature spread in Marie Claire, for which he or she will serve as a guest editor for one year, and a sewing and embroidery studio provided by Brother International.

Lifetime has ordered twelve 60-minute episodes of Project Runway All Stars, which will be produced by The Weinstein Company and Bunim-Murray Productions. “

I cannot for the life of me recall who Elisa is. Tragically, I do recall Kenley and would be happy never to see her face again. This lineup is obviously designed for interpersonal explosions.

Definitely some pleasant surprises, such as April and Rami.

    • scottyf

I know someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Elisa was the glorious “hippy child” designer who spat on her fabric.

      • Anonymous

Ding ding ding! 50 points to Scottyf. She called it “spit marking.” I called it “grossbuckets.”

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1528794 Annie Leung

I thought it was called “imbuing the fabrics”. I find it hilarious that she’s sitting next to Kenley though.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1326120071 Gaby Ripoll

            Me too!

          • Anonymous

Yes, and she kind of meditated on it, or sent intentions via her spit, somehow…she had a good sense of humor, though.

        She’s an “All-Star”???

        • Anonymous

Yes, she is.  And if you looked at her collections which have shown at Mercedez Benz week since she was on PR, you’ll see how talented she is.

It should be interesting to see what she comes up with.

Either way, I’m glad Santino isn’t on again.

      • Anonymous

        Oh yeah! I liked her!

    • Anonymous

She was also the one who had an awful accident in London I think, where she’d gone to negotiate a deal to launch her own tshirt line. Cracked her skull and was in a coma for a few days. She was super nice, I remember, regardless of the spitmarking.

Yes, and Yes. As for her being an “All-Star,” I think All-Star translates to “someone who’s been on the show before and was loved/hated/memorable in some way”…

        • Anonymous

I’m still betting that they call all the winners, then the runners-up, then down the line of who was on the shows longest and whoever says yes makes up the cast…

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1277204672 Barbara Harris Morgan

With the prize they are offering? I doubt anyone except Christian (and Jay, on principle) would have said NO.

          • Evixir Q

Well, I imagine some of them have pretty stable careers by this point, like Chloe Dao and Laura Bennett.  And I can’t blame Wendy for not coming back (even if she was asked) as revisiting that vitriol would probably ruin whatever career she has managed to retain for herself.

    • Christina Brennan

She was the one who made a gown that was “pooping fabric.”  She’s a kook, but I love that she’s from Santa Fe, as am I.  I’ve seen her out at the bars here.

      • Anonymous

Maybe there were two “pooping fabric” quips from Sir Orange-a-lot because I thought one of Blaine’s hideous garments also got the same critique.

        • Anonymous

Yes, Eliza’s was the Original Pooping Fabric garment – Heidi came up with that one and people ran with it.

please, please tell her this random internet stranger says a vehement hello and shakes her one hand with both of mine.

I dont know why everybody hates Kenley.  Yes, she has an attitude but her designs are flawless and fabulous.  Its a design competition, not a personality contest. I’m happy to see her and will be rooting for her the entire show.

PS: Elisa was on season 4 and was eliminated early.  I’m not sure why shes here.  She wasn’t all that great……

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1046681022 Paula Berman

I found Kenley neither flawless nor fabulous.  I genuinely hated her designs, found them derivative, and her attitude towards other humans was pretty repugnant too.

Elisa is here for dramatic value.

        • Anonymous

I generally agree, although I don’t feel as extremely as you do about Kenley. In terms of how she acted toward the other designers, I think Kenley just has really terrible social skills. There were a lot of times where you could see how unhappy she was about the distance between herself and her co-contestants.

        • Evixir Q

I look forward to lots of cat-throwing jokes tossed Kenley Ex-Penley’s way…

      • Anonymous

Kenley stole her ideas then lied about it. not an all-star by any stretch of the word.

      • Tom Shea

        Agreed. I always liked Kenley.

      • Anonymous

I loved her designs and aesthetic. Definitely lacking in social skills, but she’s got talent.

      • Anonymous

It was her actions on the show that got her that rep.  And her whining.  I’m autistic, there are certain ‘tones’ that I can’t listen to.  Both Andre & Kenley had those tones.  Andre during his crying scene.  Kenley whenever she was being critiqued.  Her voice always rose to a nasal screech then.  I always knew when to ‘mute’ the tv with her.

The good news is that (other than throwing a cat), she appears to have learned from her mistakes.

Also I agree with you Michael that she is exceptionally talented.  I bought one of her dresses, and got a lot of compliments when ever I wore it.  I also like that she makes her clothes in the larger sizes.

As with Elisa, I’m interested to see what she comes up with.

  • Anonymous

I didn’t remember who two of them were, but I feel that’s a pretty good line up. It’s beyond what I expected.

  • Olivia van der Leij

    yay austin!!!

Word. I love Austin with all my heart. :)

What’s the premise of this show again?

    • Anonymous

Ok, now all is explained. Thanks for the updated post, TLo. I hope that I can watch this online as well. I only started watching this show in Season Seven, so most of these folks are new to me. (I’ve never had time to catch up on the previous seasons.)

    J’ADORDANA!

  • Anonymous

Wait. What is the actual point of Project Runway without Tim Gunn? Even if it is just an All-Stars special?

    • Anonymous

Seriously! And no Duchess or Nina either? What is the world coming to??? I think I might even miss Heidi…

      • Anonymous

I don’t remember Joanna Coles having one interesting thing go say in all of the times she has served as a judge.  Not excited about this at all but wouldn’t mind being prove wrong.

        • Anonymous

She wasn’t the one who questioned Emmett McCarthy’s taste level is she?  Maybe that was Anne Slowey.  Seems like they look alike and sound alike…

          • Anonymous

            It was Anne Tootie Slowey.

            –GothamTomato

          • vmcdanie

A little late to the comment party but that was Anne “I can see her tooty” Slowey. Joanne Coles is the one who fawned over a contestant in a more recent season just because they used “Mary Tyler Moore” to describe their look. I may be remembering wrong but it seems like it was the show where they were updating a look for Jackie O so the critique was completely irrelevant.

I’m curious to see how Sir Isaac does though.

    • Anonymous

but, you know, this is not just an all star special, it’s an all star season!  12 whole episodes.  i agree, the judging sounds dismal, but the all star personalities involved will be fascinating.  it’s the perfect set-up for a food fight with fabric.

      • Anonymous

Yeah, I didn’t realize it was a whole season when I posted. I do like a lot of the personalities, but yeah. I don’t know if I will even be interested in a Project Runway without Tim Gunn, no matter who the contestants are. Although, food fight with fabric! That could be awesome alliterative fun. :)

      • Anonymous

” the judging sounds dismal”   AFTER gRETCHEN?

  • Anonymous

I think that I am most interested in seeing the work of April Johnston, she and Gordina Gehlhausen are the two of that group that most deserved (but did not) to get to compete for for the prize at fashion week.
I am really suprised to see Kenley Collins, I didn’t think she would ever do anything for Project Runway again.
And didn’t Sweet Pea alread do an “All Stars”?

    • oekmama

I think Sweet P already did an All-Stars if my memory serves me…and she was eliminated fairly early. I guess you can come back if you don’t win an All-Stars, and are not massively fed up.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=679263485 Edmund Heng

You can’t go wrong with Mondo AND Austin Scarlett!!  I predict Mondo, Kara definitely in Top 2.  Austin/Mila in Top 3. Sweet P or Anthony Johnson or Jerell Scott first to be eliminated lol.

  • Anonymous

    Austin! Gordana! Mondo! I’m excited.

  • http://www.facebook.com/JennaM.Olson Jenna Olson

Elisa seems like a waste to me, even if she is a total entertaining crazy.  And Michael Costello?!  Really!?  Boy was lucky enough to last as long as he did on his own season, does he really deserve a second chance?  As for the judges, I don’t know how I feel about the change, but maybe it will be refreshing.  They may not has as many preconceived opinions on the designers, so maybe designers like Costello won’t be able to skate by with ugly dresses in ugly fabrics that you could find at your local Forever 21….

Enough ranting however, I am basically thrilled with everyone else!  I would have loved to see a little Santino crazy, Uli, or Laura.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

Michael Costello has a very loyal online following. Plus his connection with Mondo should make it interesting.

    • oekmama

Well, they have to choose some people who can be bumped without losing too much viewer interest.

  • http://twitter.com/ericibid eric

Michael Costello and Kenley Collins on my TV at the same time? I weep at the thought.

    • Anonymous

Maybe we’ll get lucky, and she’ll get arrested again for throwing a cat at someone (I kid not – google it.)  Hey, if it will make her go away…

    Whoa! Full stop!

    “with  Marie Claire editor-in-chief Joanna
    Coles as the show’s mentor”

What? Nevermind the cast. Joanna Coles is the new Tim Gunn? What is this fresh?

    • MilaXX

I think she could be interesting as a mentor. She’s not Tim, but I she can offer good advice and I doubt she’ll try to be a Tim clone.

If I was a cynical person (and I guess I am in this case), I would speculate that Bunim Murray will be using this series to test some theories about who is and is not indispensable. If the ratings of this show do well, I bet there’ll be some hardball negotiations with Uncle Tim, the duchess and La Nina. Maybe even some short walks off a long pier.

      • Anonymous

I think that’s a long walk off a short pier, darling.

Pretty darned good lineup!  Can’t wait to see Mondo, Austin, Rami, Anthony, April again.  Could live without Sweet Pea and Kenley.  Altho I don’t put them in the same category.  Sweet Pea is sweet, but not as talented as some.  Kenley just rubs me the wrong way ALL the time.

    • http://twitter.com/PandaDandaPants Amanda Rose Gilbert

Cant wait to see April again? Have you seen what she’s been creating lately? Its a do-over of everything she has ever done. I tried her “moth” collection on in a boutique and it was THEE MOST HORRIBLY FITTING GARMENT I HAVE EVER PUT ON MY BODY.

  • http://twitter.com/AllForUSophia Sophia H.

I was hoping for Daniel Vosovic to be on it… :(

      That is my greatest nightmare!

I seriously wouldn’t put it past whatever production company to have an All-Star season every couple of years and just hand Daniel $100K, $250K, whatever, before any competitions.   The judges love him – I never have.  He seems a’ight to me, nothing more – but he has the looks and affect of someone that I think *they* think should be in WWD all the time…

I am indifferent about: Jerell, Anthony, Michael
I wish they were not in the cast: Kenley

She’ll be entertaining to watch at least. Also, fancy seeing you here. :D

      • http://iwonderandiwander.wordpress.com/ Kris

Kenley makes me want to throw things at the TV, but that can be enteraining, you know?  And as grating as she was, she made some interesting stuff, so I am kind of looking forward to her being on the show.  As long as she doesn’t, you know, win.

      • Anonymous

i hope kenley won’t be throwing any live animals at anyone.  dead animals a-ok, but only if she finds them dead already.  we may need humane society presence on the set.

    • oekmama

Mila used to make mostly black and white, graphic, colour-blocking outfits. Had a razor sharp bob and wore mostly black. April had bleached(?) blonde hair mostly in a ponytail and made the most surprisingly edgy almost punk pieces. Both amazingly talented.

  • Aaron Blair

I don’t see the point of doing an all-stars show without most of the actual stars of the show.  Different judges, different host, different mentor.  I’ll watch, out of curiosity, but I can’t see it being anything other than a pale imitation of the original version of the show.  Sure, the designing and constructing of the garments and the interpersonal relationships of the contestants are a huge part of the show, and some of these returning designers are beloved former contestants, but the part that Tim, Heidi, Michael, and Nina play is significant, so it seems kind of insulting that the producers of the show think that it’ll be just as good with those people swapped out.  Hasn’t Bravo been trying to do this, recreate Project Runway with different major players, to little success, ever since the show went to Lifetime?

    • http://visceralresponse.com Dina dV

I’m actually glad they went with a new cast entirely.  Nina, Heidi, Michael and Tim already know these designers and it’s all become a bit “rote” at this point, so if they’re going to do a full, new season featuring “All Stars” make them all learn how to jump through some new hoops and please some new people.

Different judging panels didn’t hurt Top Chef: Masters or Top Chef: Just Desserts.  It won’t hurt this one season, either.  And I know this is blasphemy, but this whole group needs to sit and watch how others would tackle their roles to liven them up.  Because Heidi finding her bitchy side isn’t enough progression, for me.

      • Anonymous

Am I the only one who looks at the new judge/mentor cast and thinks that they’re being tested as possible replacements should Michael, Nina, or (god forbid) Tim bail or ask for too much money in a future season?

I don’t think I’d watch a new series of Project Runway without Tim (though this one, yes, because I love Mondo, Austin and Miss Anthony).  But I wouldn’t blink if Michael and Nina were replaced.  They’re starting to act a little too much like the show is about them, not the contestants.

        • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

I think it is interesting havign an editor as mentor, rather than a designer/teacher. Brings a new perspective. I can’t wait!!

I am VERY happy with the lineup. I am also eager to see a fresh cast of hosts, and eager to see how the flavor of judging goes. PR needs a shake-up. Wonder if this is a test to see if hey need to swap out hosts in the regular PR.

I probably should have read this before I posted my reply to the comment directly above. :)

It will be -fascinating- to see if these judges applaud contestants for things that were viewed as negatives the first time around.

Anthony and Kenley in the same room. With Elisa.

Sad that Jack didn’t sign on. I really wanted him above everyone.

No Tim?  Pitiful.  On the other hand, maybe the judging will be less cracktastic without Michael and Nina.  I would watch just to see Mondo and Austin Scarlett design again.

I could live with everyone else returning except for Kenley. I really could have lived a long, happy life without seeing her again. I’m also willing to bet good money that Mondo gets the “we screwed up” sympathy win.

That is exactly what they did with Daniel Vosovi c on last seasons “All Stars”.

      • Joe J

Yeah, I thought that was kind of a joke that his Unabomber-change-machine outfit won and Uli’s effing GORGEOUS dress didn’t even place in the top half.  No matter how much I like Mondo, I don’t want him to get a sympathy win.

I paid $22.85 for an iPhone 4-32GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.com

who’s Jarell? Kenley hell to the yeah!!! I hated/loved her, also thrilled for: Mondo, Mila ♥, April, Austin, Sweet P and Remi, fuck the rest (specially Michael Share A Tear Costello)

    • Anonymous

Jarell is the one who dyed his fabric in a toilet. And he had some great one liners.

      • Maggie Muellner

The toilet dyer was Ra’Mon in the LA season. It was a lime green neoprene monstrosity that was the winner for the episode. La Nina claimed she would actually wear it – ahahahaha!! . Tim later revealed that he had personally purchased it at the after auction to try and manuever Nina into walking her talk.

        • Anonymous

Oh you’re right! Damn middle-aged memory – I seem to only be able to end the last part of the seasons. But Jerrell was funny, wasn’t he? I would pay to see Nina in that stinky sewer dress!

          • vmcdanie

Jerrell was funny, genuine and very sweet. On personality alone, one of my favorite contestants ever. God love him though-he made some tacky garments week in an out.

Jarrell was last dude standing before the all female  Leanne/Kenley/Korto finale.  He was hilarious and made the kind of clothes that Goldie Hawn’s character from Overboard would have snapped up pre-amnesia.

Seeing this ginormous cast, I had to look up your post back in May explaining that there would be 8 episodes of this show. I suppose that getting Tim, Heidi, Nina, and Michael to sign on for 8 episodes of another major show would be bad (in terms of keeping them from their “real jobs” which in turn make them better judges/mentors, and in terms of  overexposure) but it remains to be seen whether the new team will be able to keep our respect (!!!) & interest for 8 episodes.

Oh, Rami. Swoon. Just happy to have him back on my TV to look at. In terms of who I like most and most want to see pull off something great? Team April! I do love me some Mondo, and he was the most “robbed” of these contestants, but there was just something about April that made me think she had boundless potential. Maybe it was the fact that she was about 12 when her season was on.

I might be the only one, but I’m actually pleased to see Elisa again.  I have an odd warm spot in my heart for her…  I’m also really pleased to see Austin, Kara, Gordana, Mondo, and Rami again, but surely some of these people (not even the unpleasant ones, but Michael, Anthony ??) stretch the definition of “all-star” to the breaking point…

Really?? I thought All Stars was supposed to be with famous designers competing against each other? These are just former PR contestants.

    • Logo Girl

They seem to be using the Top Chef naming conventions. Maybe they will have Project Runway Masters, though. That would be interesting.

  • Joe J

Well, with Heidi not judging this version, I think Gordana’s chances just jumped up considerably – I seem to recall she told TLo in an interview that Heidi seemed to have a grudge against her.

All things considered, this is a really well-cast season, although I can do without ever having Kenley or Michael Costello on my screen again.  WAY too much drama around these two.

  • Laura Goulding

meh. not enough people from earlier seasons.

Elisa and Michael Costello?  Really?  More good than bad though, so it should be a good watch.

I’m disappointed that there’s no Malan, but I guess he’s not really an all-star if he only made it for a few episodes.

Here’s to hoping for a top 3 of Austin, Kara and Mondo :)

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1277204672 Barbara Harris Morgan

Elise was only on for a few episodes, so I don’t think THAT was a selection criteria.

  • Anonymous

I’m really excited about Austin!   He’s one of my all-time favorites!

Kenley probably thinks of this as an opportunity to redeem herself.  I just really don’t want to see her again.

    • Anonymous

It’s a good thing Kenley wasn’t in the current season because during last week’s episode she’d probably throw a cat on someone at the Pet Store.

  • Sobaika Mirza

I’m concerned not so much with the cast as I am with the rest. They need a household name type (like Heidi, Tyra, etc.) as the host, it’s part of why people initially tuned in. Joanna Coles and Isaac Mizrahi have been on enough reality TV shows to know that they’re just not the kind of personalities that people respond to. And they’re missing the secret ingredient – Tim Gunn.

    • http://visceralresponse.com Dina dV

I might be the only person who watches this show that won’t miss Tim Gunn and his fussiness, but I think Joanna as mentor will be a nice, bracing tonic for these egos.  Angela Lindvall as a model is a “name.”  She may not be as big a name as Heidi but certainly a bigger name than Padma Lakshmi or Gail Simmons were when they were cast on Top Chef.  If she has an ounce of personality or intelligence, she’ll be fine because she can certainly wear clothes as well as Heidi does.

And Isaac can quip with the best of them.  Other than Georgina Chapman, who is a weak Nina replacement, I think the new judges/mentor/host are a good group.

  • Anonymous

Terrific line up…but when is it? Liked Isaac on the Fashion Show (is that coming back?). So happy to have different judges–already Nina is getting on my nerves…to the point of wondering if it’s worth sitting through this latest season of PR.

  • Anonymous

    Mondo and Austin, hooray!

  • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

Happy about Rami. I really liked him. Would have rather seen Stella over Sweet P. Actually, over pretty much anyone on that list. Stella Barbarella FTW!!

  • Jennifer Hofstetter

I’m surprised Isaac Mizrahi will/can be a judge.  I’m excited for the lineup basically.  Not all of the contestants are a fave for me, but what fun would that be?

Though I can’t believe they’re bringing back the girl that spits on her clothes.

  • Anonymous

I like the idea of new judges and mentor for this particular competition. It brings fresh eyes to the work. Happy with the group except Michael Costello and could have lived without Sweet P even though I like her. How exciting would it have been to see Andrae or Sissy Bear in the mix! Or Uncle Nick!!

  • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

And Joanna Coles appears to be rocking the SWINTON look…

  • Anonymous

Too many eye rolls as I went through the list and Joanna Coles bugs so I guess I’ll have to pass. Kara is really working her appearances though – she just did All on the Line for Sundance Channel.

  • Anonymous

I’m excited to see Mila!  I didn’t see her season, but I really enjoyed the archived pictures of her work.  Also, yay for April – I like her and it’ll be interesting to see if she’s branched out at all since last PR season.

    • Anonymous

You should definitely catch that season. Mila did some pretty amazing work and she made for a nice presence on the show. Overall, fan reactions to her TV persona seemed fairly mixed, but she is actually a great designer and did well on the show.

  • Tracy Archuleta

I can hardly wait to see the Kenley/Isaac bitchslap match.  Hopefully there won’t be any cats around….
Mondo is a rare man who can rock that hat.  I’m so happy to see Austin, Kara and Gordana.  And if I close my eyes and squint at the picture, I can pretend Michael isn’t in it.

Didn’t Sweet P already do an all-stars? I’m excited to see Austin, Kara, Gordana, Mila, and Mondo again! And now that I have been reminded about Elisa, I’m excited to see her too.

  • Anonymous

I’m fairly happy with the lineup of designers, but not so thrilled with the rest of the cast. For me, the heart and soul of PR are Tim, Heidi, Nina and the Michael Kors. I’ll definitely watch, but it will be a very different experience without those four. On another note, life after PR must be good because the designers all look pretty fabulous.

  • Anonymous

I am not that surprised with the designer list, all of them finished fairly high in their seasons except Eliza, so her inclusion is
puzzling. I am concerned about the judges and mentor. Really hoping we don’t end up seeing a bunch of Marchesa leaning looks, although when Georgina Chapman was a mentor in On the Line she seemed well spoken and tried to give the deluded designer some good advice. I am still LOLing about Isaac Mizrahi pimping himself out to fashion TV. Does this mean that The Fashion Show is dead? And Joanna Coles as a mentor makes me cringe. I blame her for Gretchen’s win, she probably held Nina’s feet to the fire to swing her vote. I remember when they interviewed her after the runway show and she basically said that Gretchen
was her favorite and I figured then that she was going to win.

I am really excited to see Gordana and hope she does well. YAY for anything Mondo related! I love the clothes that Mila has put out and only wish I had the figure and the money to wear them.

Why?  She was a guest judge on the second episode

The guest judge for the finale was Jessica Simpson.

    • Logo Girl

I was recently watching some season 8 extended clips for the Marie Claire episode. She said something to the effect that she wanted to hire Gretchen on the spot. Sort of went aHA! That is why Gretchen didn’t get eliminated on that team challenge. That is why she was one of the final four even though she made the crappiest “East Village” outfit ever. Joanna Coles wanted her on board with Marie Claire.

YAY AUSTIN!!  My happiness at getting to watch Austin again more than makes up for my shudders of horror at Kenley’s and Michael Costello’s names being on this list.  And Rami … do we really need to see eight more identical draped gowns?  But this is a great cast!  A lot of people I wanted to see more from, who I thought got robbed of their chances to really shine (April, Gordana, Kara Janx, Sweet P).  I, for one, can’t wait!!

Wow – it’s All-Star Fever for reality shows this year! Top Chef’s finished not long ago, and America’s Next Top Model has their starting in the next month or so…. and while So You Think You Can Dance isn’t bringing All-Stars back to compete again, they’re bringing their’s back to help showcase the current contestants.

Ok, so for PR’s crop of All-Stars, here are my rankings.

    YAY!
    ====
    * Mondo Guerrra (and may he now be granted the “win” he actually EARNED during his season but was so unjustly deprived of.  Yes, I’m still bitter about Gretchen. Deal.)
    * Austin Scarlett
    * Sweet P
    * Anthony Williams

    “Oh. him/her again”
    ===============
    * Mila Hermanovski
    * Kara Janx (though I enjoyed her much more on her recent “Rocco’s Dinner Party” episode than I did during her entire season)
    * Rami Kashou (how many more Grecian drape variations can there possibly be?)
    * April Johnston (I still don’t know how she managed to stick around as long as she did…)

    Gliding in Neutral
    =============
    * Gordana Gehlhausen
    * Jerell Scott
    * Michael Costello
    * Elisa Jimenez

Most likely to cause me to turn off the series all-together if not kicked during week one
    =================================================================
    * Kenley Collins

I’m not a huge fan of the “All Stars” concept.  For me, a major part fo the draw for PR is weeing new designers and designs.  This seems more about the potential drama of mix people together but i guess that is really what most “reality” TV is all about.  Also, if you were an “All Star” of something, wouldn’t you be off creating your lines, doing the real deal rather than back on TV?  God love his scary white pasty self, that creepy queen Austin just can’t pass up a moment on TV though, can he?
On a side note, let’s all hope Rami does some of the challenges shirtless……

  • Anonymous

Ugh, Kenley.  And I don’t think I ever actually watched the season with Gordana (was that the LA one?) so I have no opinion on her.  No real complaints about the others, should be fun!

I’ve never watched PR All Stars before though, what do they win?

  • Anonymous

While I am happy to see more of Elisa, I am surprised she bothered to do the show again. She has different definitions of success compared to the other contestants. I guess she’s doing it for laughs and to see Rami and SweetP again. But she is entertaining and the truth is she is a “zero drama” person. She’s gone through too much crap in her life to to create drama.

And for those who wonder, she is actually is a pretty remarkable designer. While her type of construction is atypical, that woman can hand sew like a dervish. I was amazed what I saw her do slapping a piece of jersey and working with scissors on a woman in less than an hour

More groans than “yay”‘s from me, I’m afraid… anything that puts Michael Costello, Mila, Kenley AND Rami on the same show just no longer has that “all-star” quality to it for me.  ICK.

Yeah.  I’d happily never see Michael or Mila again (Kenley is a different story, I don’t like her particularly but I did like a lot of her designs. And Rami has shown variety in his designing from season to season, but that season was draping.) but they did perform well in their seasons.  Elisa’s the only one who went out relatively early and didn’t seem to grasp how the show works so seeing her, again, is like them bringing back Ping.  Long on “personality” but short on the skills required to do well on Project Runway.

Sigh. Can I just say how sick I am of Isaac Mizrahi mugging for the cameras? Though I guess he was decent enough last season of the Fashion Show.
With the exceptions of Kenley and Michael Costello (both of whom just irritate me, the former for obvious reasons, the latter for his “aw shucks everyone’s always bullying me” mentality – which, while true last season, got annoying to listen to), I like everyone picked.
I want to see Rami flexing his evil genius muscles.

  • Shawn Hill

So Isaac is free of the imitation and has graduated to the real thing? Sort of? That’s probably why no Tim Gunn; they’re not fond of each other.

I like the list of contestants but am wary of the change in host, mentor and judges. I didn’t like Top Chef Masters nearly as much after that show changed the host and judges. It changes the whole dynamic of the show.

I’m surprised they couldn’t get/didn’t want Santino in. Maybe Mila is taking his place?

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1277204672 Barbara Harris Morgan

And doesn’t he have a regular gig on Drag Show?

  • Anonymous

When Kara was on Joe Zee’s show there was a lot of talk about how being a contestant on PR didn’t really translate to success as a designer, and his efforts were all about establishing her as a commercially viable designer, creating a signature look and getting lots of orders from stores.  It seemed to be a successful strategy.  Now, if she’s appearing on all-stars and other reality shows, I would imagine that she’s discovered that it’s really hard to be a successful designer.  And she’s simply going for whatever she can get as a reality show famewhore.  Sad.

It’s a pretty decent cast.  I could do without Michael Costello, Elisa and Kenley.  Sweet Pea has already been on an all-stars, hasn’t she?  Could do without her also.  The real contenders, based on talent, are Mondo, Mila and Rami.  I think April had the most potential of just about any one ever on the show so I’ll be very interested to see what she’s doing now.  And Anthony is always welcome in my home.

love your screen name, Cassandra Mortmain. And totally agree with your analysis here.

  • Adella Thompson

Some happy choices, but overall pretty disappointed. Soo many fabulous almost-made-its, that a cast half full of “huh, really?” or “oh god, not KENLEY!!!” really just seems like  a waste of a good talent pool.Honestly, although I adore many of the designers on a personal level (Gordana, Anthony, Austin, Sweet P), only Mondo really makes me even consider getting over my sheer repulsion for Kenley/longing for Tim Gunn and actually watch an episode.

I think I missed the first season of All Stars — as this seems to be the second season — ?  How did I miss that?

When and where is this on?

I have mixed feelings — while I liked some of these designers, I would have hoped the show (at least in the earlier seasons) could have been a springboard to success in the design industry, not continued reality TV stardom.  I would think the latter would only take you so far.  I remain hopeful that some of my favorites who have NOT reappeared on my silver screen (Jillian Lewis, I’m looking at you) are less visible because they are quietly working their way up the ranks in the industry.

The first All-Stars was just a one-shot special, not a whole season. IIRC, it had Jeffrey Sebilia, Chris March, Uli, some other people, and they crowned Daniel Vosovic the winner.

Excited!  Want to see how the new judging/mentor team does, as much as anything.

    Georgina Chapman.  Oh, god, no.

  • Brenna McClellan

    KENLEY YES!

  • vmcdanie

Isaac? Isn’t that some kind of breach or something with Bravo? Does that mean his Bravo show is over? (even with Iman, that thing was kind of a snooze although it didn’t make me want to commit mass contestant homicide like season one.) I think he’ll be fine at any rate, provided he’s the nicer version of Isaac we saw in S2.

I’ve liked Joanna Coles well enough on Runway but I do remember her going unaccountably bananas for someone’s half-assed look on one of the recent seasons because they name-checked Mary Tyler Moore in the description. Is there another analogous show that has a female acting as mentor?

A-listers: Mondo (!!), Rami, Kenley (yeah, she’s kind of a jackass but Ioved her aesthetic), Kara Janx, Austin

I’m always curious to see what they’ll do: Jerrell, Sweet Pea, April, Gordana (those mf-ing judges had better be more respectful toward her this time)

I’m always happy to see: Anthony

I’m a little baffled: Michael Costello? I don’t dislike the guy but I saw more than enough of his clothes last time

Thank the Gods Ivy isn’t back. There isn’t anyone that I really dislike here.

YAY for Austin, Gordana and Mondo! And the rest… I don’t know, I wouldn’t call them “all-stars.” Maybe Kara… and Rami… I guess Elisa will provide some entertainment.

Thrilling! I am contemplating rewatching these seasons so I’m totally up to date. Will Rami continue to drape? Will Anthony continue to delight? Will Spit-woman be the first off? My mind boggles…

  • Anonymous

I responded to both Gordana’s and Mila’s work, so I am most excited to see them here.  Mondo too, of course, because he seems like a great guy and has a fun POV.

I hope Joanna Coles is more truly helpful than she’s been in the past.  Her dragon lady persona isn’t exactly conducive to mentoring.

    Mondo’s coming back! Yey!

Kenley’s known for her *flapper*-inspired looks?  I guess I didn’t know that poodle skirts and fascinators were “flapper”-ish.

    • Anonymous

I know right? And I bet April would be suprised that her that her designs were grunge inspired. And Gordina showcased her crochet and knitwear???

      • Anonymous

Uh, exactly…didn’t Gordana showcase the crochet and knitwear AFTER being auf’d??

  • Anonymous

Thrilled to see Mondo, Austin, Sweet P, Gordana, Rami, and Jerrell on this list.  So many different points of view and talents–it bodes wel for this series.  Most of the others?  OK, fine, whatever.  But I’m truly sorry that Kenley, the Queen of Whining Narcissists, is included, and if I’m going to get through this series, I’ll have to have the mute button under my thumb at all times.  I cannot abide her sniveling, put-upon meowing.

Sad to see that Andrae isn’t included. I was hoping for a big surprise, with him included.

  • Susan Crawford

Elisa (“Pardon me while I hock a lugie on this fabric”) Jimenez? Seriously?

And am I the only one truly feeling bad that little Ping and her endless drapes and loops of cloth and quirky knitted hats was not included?

But Mondo AND Anthony together? Squeeeee!

And Mizrahi? “Hello, darlings” but I am in heaven.

    • Logo Girl

Maybe they almost got Ping, she had other commitments, and they decided to cast Elisa as the “cookoo bird”.

Question:  Will the finalists show at Fashion Week?  Or will it be like the 1st All-Stars Special from 2009, where they just showed in front of the judges?

I had 2 criteria for being on board for this …. include EJ (Puppet Girl) and do NOT include Ivy H.

So, I’m fully on board for this.  Yes, of COURSE I will miss TIm Gunn.  However, between The Smurfs Movie and TG seeing what Anondra did for Expedia, I guess I will be able to cope.  I seem to see TG all the time just for the commerical.

It was Mondo in the 2nd episode of season eight that referenced MTM.  I do wonder if anyone else will reference her on the All-Stars.  I also wonder if April will smile.  I do like nearly all of them, and it is rather unlikely that I will be upset with whatever outcome might take place, even if it’s KC, MC and EJ for the top 3.  (No, that is NOT what I anticipate, at ALL.)

I think some of these people were put in here because of personality, not for talent, like Elisa and Anthony. I wouldn’t consider them All Stars.

  • http://twitter.com/poptartsjen Pop Tarts Jen

I like how they say that Mondo placed second “in one of Project Runway’s most talked about endings ever.” Yes, most talked about because the judges got it DEAD WRONG. I’m still a little bitter. OK, a lot bitter. Mondo better bring it, because if he doesn’t win the All-Stars season I will be crushed! CRUSHED!

  • Anonymous

Well, this will be interesting.  No Heidi, Tim, Nina or Michael… (but Isaac! strange…) hardly any contestants from the Bravo Years…. Certainly can’t say this is business as usual.  It will be interesting to see how a completely new panel of judges reassesses these contestants.  Kenley is the only one I dread to see; a bit disappointing that it’s so many designers from the past few seasons though.  I’ll give it a shot.

  • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I’m concerned about the new judges and mentor — hopeful, but concerned.  I think they did a great job with contestants, though!  There are several very talented designers, and enough personality to keep it interesting to watch.  (And Kenley’ll keep Mila from looking like a villian again:)

  • Pam Winters

This lineup’s really heavy on people I’d really like to see–or, more to the point, people whose work I’d really like to see. April! Elisa! Mondo! Gordana! Jerell! I’m super happy.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NMLK23QK6C7NMLMVVYA5POXKJY WhiteMage

so… basically they are just going to give it to mondo. i mean, how can they NOT?

    ugggh kenley… oh man…

  • http://iwonderandiwander.wordpress.com/ Kris

Wow, I know Elisa didn’t make it nearly as far as the others in the list, but really?  The most they could come up with to say about her designs is that she marked them with spit?  And “prizing”?  Honestly, Lifetime, maybe I should know better, but I expect more of you.

Still, the cast looks really fun.  I am super excited to see Mondo, Sweet P, April, Kara, Austin, and Anthony back in action.  But I am actually interested to see the work of everyone they chose.

This reminds me, TLo, I was thinking the other day that it would be so cool if you guys did a “Where Are They Now” series on the most loved and hated PR contestants.

  • http://profiles.google.com/shawna.ready shawna ready

AHHHHH AUSTIN!!! I am so excited.

  • Anonymous

The prize is really good. You would think that Neiman Marcus would have a considerable say in who the winner will be. And it will put the designers that already have experience getting a line to market at a huge advantage. Kara Janx, Rami Kashou, Mila Hermanovski, and Gordina Gehlhausen.

  • voter1

Oh, now this will be good.  I’m hoping to see Kenley paired up with Elisa – I’m guessing fur will fly if that happens.  Can’t wait to see more from Mondo and Anthony and Sweet P.  They were among my favorites.

Goodygoodygoody! I swore off of PR-regular season (so far so good, haven’t relapsed) but I am going to be on All Stars like white on rice. Bravo and PR – the way life should be! At the very least it’ll keep Georgina Chapman from napkin-folding for a while. And I want to see  an Isaac Mizrahi/Kenley cagefight… my money’s on Les Miz!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

So now can we start fantasizing teams? Because ever since the first post announcing all-stars here, I have been dreaming of Jerell and Anthony as a team: Team Catty, the giggle girls making comments together about the other “sketchy” contestants.

Though I think Mondo and Austin could team up for a fabulous and cracktastic design, I would like to see Mondo and Mila team together. I think their styles would work very well blended into a very chic and fun look.

And just for tortuous teams, I would put Michael C with either Kenley or Rami. Someone who is considered low taste with either person who thinks they are very sophisticated… Mu ha ha ha ha!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lauren-Jean-St-Martin/504251897 Lauren Jean St. Martin

Ick on the judges, and ok, JERREL’S TOP???? What the? It looks like Rami got ahold of it.

  • Anonymous

    Sweet P?! Why?
I remember her creating a lot of crap during her season
No adult should ask other adults to refer to them by such a ridiculous, contrived, nickname like that.

  • Emma Wallace

I have been a longtime follower of both Project Runway and America’s Next Top Model. Both of them are having full fledged All-Star seasons this year (previous specials and mini-series also happened, but not a full season). The cast for PR All-Stars looks like it’s 3/4 talented people from past seasons that I want to see more from and 1/4 strong personalities who are there to add drama. ANTM looks like it has the opposite.

  • Judy_J

Can’t believe they brought back Elisa.  Sorry that Kenley is back, but maybe she’ll fade early.  And Sweet P!  I’d forgotten all about her. Oh, and I’m glad to see Isaac Mizrahi is one of the judges. I love his bitchiness.

    • Anonymous

If I were a contestant that felt like I got booted unfairly/early… I woukld probably welcome other judges.   I mean if you were Mondo or Rami or Gordana – for example, wouldn’t you want to have a chance with different judges – especially if one of the others seemed biases aginst you?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1442661135 Dominy Marveux-Garbeau

Whenever my ambivalence about Isaac Mizrahi lessens, I remind myself that Tim Gunn called him a “Spoiled Snob” in his book  “Gunn’s Golden Rules” and also gently poke my brain with the tidbit knowledge that Mizrahi was in the 1980 movie fame, posing as a Club Kid. These facts alone help me turn quickly away and look ANYWHERE ELSE for entertainment or fashion advice.

I actually enjoyed all of these people!  I haven’t watched Austin and Kara’s seasons yet, but I’m familiar with them.  This is going to be a lot of fun.

I’m not so sure about the judges – why the change? Is the idea that it’ll be fresh eyes looking at these designers? – but I’m happy with the cast.  There are enough really good people there that the challenges should be very interesting!

  • sonictofu

Joanna Coles has some BIG shoes to fill, but she has some gravitas so it might work.  Also, I have no idea where I’ve seen her before – was it that CW series about the aspiring fashion mag editors?

Sweet Pea looks gorgeous!!! Yay to Mondo!! And Gordana!! I will be cheering them on, although I know that more boring drapery by Rami will probably win.

Oooh this is going to be fun!  is that Sweet P in the orange?  She looks great!
I don’t remember the first All-Stars at all.  You say Daniel V won?  HmmmmmI wonder where I was…Anyway–after watching the second go-round of The Fashion Show, I think IM would make a better mentor–being a real designer and all.  He did very well on TFS, I thought, even though he was mentor and judge at the same time.
When will this air?  I missed it….

Happy to see almost all of them…except fucking Kenley. My god I can’t explain the visceral reaction to seeing her in that picture. Uggh. Dramabomb and not even interesting dramabomb.I liked her designs most of the time too. But she is just so fracking grating. I wish Chris March or Jack (shit what’s his last name) could have taken her spot. Or crazy American Psycho raincoat guy that got eliminated first that one season. Or what about Stella! Leathuh! Uggh.

But yay Rami. Love him and his draping. And Sweet Pea, I want to be her when I grow up.

So, if Isaac Mizrahi is judging PR All Stars, what’s the fate of “The Fashion Show”?
I love that show. Love Iman scaring the bejeezus out of all the timid little fame whores (there’s a contradiction in terms!).

    Austin + Kara + Elisa + Gordana + Mila + Monda = UBERYAY !

    Rami + Anthony + Michael = bleh…
Sweet P = Again ? I mean I like her and her Deer-caught-in-flash-light-oh-my-how-am-I-Gonna-Dooooooooo eyes and everything, but didnt’ she tried in an allstar PR already ?
April = maybe she grown up a little as a designer but I doubt it

All in all, a good cas, rightly balanced between awesome designer and irritating ones so we are going to have a good TV shaw.
What ? Fashion ? Oh, don’t be annoying with silly details, please…

I was hoping Uncle Nick would be on this one :(

Oh well. I’m still going to watch this. I watch every edition of Project Runway (although I’m only halfway through the Korean one).

I like Austin, Mondo (doh), April and Geordana. I don’t think Sweet P deserved yet another go (she was in the first All-Stars after all). I cringe at the thought of having to hear Michael Costello again, but hey, at least Henly will be there and she’s nutso so :D

I admit, I scrolled down and my first thought was, “Huh, PR had a contestant who looked exactly like Isaac Mizrahi? Must’ve been Season 5, the season I missed…”

Nice–I’m looking forward to seeing strong designers like Mondo, Rami, and Mila go head to head. I think of Gordana, Austin, Kara Janx, and April as being less consistent in challenges but still uber-talented, so I’m hoping to see them knock a few out of the park. No opinion on Kenley and Jerell, since, as I mentioned, I never saw their season. Overall, I’m pleased with the talent-to-“personality” ratio. Not sure why Sweet P (IIRC, not _that_much of a standout in any aspect) or Elisa (notable only for spit-marking and head injury) are back, though.

While kudos to Austin for reviving “Cat On A Hot Thin Moustache”, if I have to hear about that damn corn husk dress one more time I’ll scream. I picture his driver’s license saying “Hair Color : Corn Husk and don’t you forget it”.

    michael costello? really?

  • Anique Ashraf

I predict drama between Kenley and Rami. Those two are as opposite as … something. Not excited to see Sweet P(although she is a very good designer, the fadedflowersanddenim hippie looks are not my type), Michael C and Anthony. OK with Jerell and Kenley and Mondo. LOVE Rami, Austin, Mila, April and Kara! Elisa is a bit of a wildcard, but she can be very good. LOVE Joanna Coles. I like TIm and everything, but sometimes he’s prejudiced and overreactive. I don’t detect that from Joanna. And since I am the only on who liked Gretchen, I like Joanna even more now.
Hm. Anyone can fill me in on the sun signs of these people? Austin is a Capricorn, Rami is a Taurus, Mila is Unspecified Earth Sign, Kara, Gordana and Mondo are Geminis. Sweet P and Kenley are Aquarius and Jerell is a Sagittarius. Anybody knows the rest?

  • Logo Girl

Why no one from Season 3?

I would love to see April and Kenley team up. I cannot imagine April taking any crap from Kenley, and may be the only one in any season who would be able to take her down a notch.

That picture of April, makes her look a lot older.  Especially since the notes say she was the 2nd youngest!  I could only pick her out by process of elimination.  Is her hair blue?  I remember her and thought she had talent, in the younger emo or dark-side esthetic.  (Sorry if that’s spelled wacky – don’t have spell check on this.)

I’m kind of disappointed that there’s no Wendy Pepper.  Yeah, I know, but she would have been more fun than Kenley.  Otherwise, this cast is pretty good, except for the forgettable blonde in the front row.

I would have loved to see an All Villains All-Star competition. Wendy, Santino, Vincent, VIctorya, Terri, Kenley, Ivy, and a host of others. But not Jeffrey or Irina, since they won their seasons.

Was Victorya really a villain? They tried to edit her into one, but she seemed relatively quiet and focused rather than especially mean and villainy.

      • MilaXX

I recall Tim not having a lot of nice things to say abut her. Like she thought they got more time than they actually did and complained about it and she thought the producers were forcing jack to stay when he was sick. Compared to some she wasn’t much of a villain. I’d say she had a bit of an attitude problem she wasn’t Ivy level mean.

Even if she had a bit of an attitude problem, she didn’t really do enough to warrant a villain label, and her attitude problems were mostly away from the cameras and come from behind the scenes gossip. On screen, she just scowled a lot and was otherwise pretty forgettable – “quiet and focused” is a nice way of saying “would have faded into the background without an edit.”

To me, Kenley is best remembered as the insanely stuck up bitch that put Leanne in those god-awful high waisted “hip hop” pants, copying Mcqueen and throwing a cat at her boyfriend. DO NOT WANT.

I am actually rather excited about the prospect of this.

The completely different judges, and yes, even the absence of Tim, are fine with me: I’ve seen enough of the non-American versions to be used to that, and much as I love Tim, he’s mostly been reduced to his trademarked Tim-isms for a while now. And I actually like Isaac Mizrahi (does this mean The Fashion Show has been put out of its misery? I assumed it would be). I’m rather intrigued by the idea of Joanna Coles as Mentor, too. On top of that, though I would have preferred more early season contestants, there are really only two contestants I’m not thrilled with.

Austin Scarlett – But of course! (I’m not excited about his facial hair, though.)
Kara Janx – I’m very pleasantly surprised to see her back.
Elisa Jimenez – Why not, really? I’m actually rather curious.
Rami Kashou – I think he’s an obvious choice for an All-Star season and I’m happy to see him back.
Sweet P – She was back for the last All-Stars, but I’m okay with her being back again.
Jerrell Scott – Every time someone complains that the producers have been manipulating the judging since The Switch, somewhere Jerrell Scott is laughing.  I’m happy to see him back.
Kenley Collins – I’m surprised she would come back – but I am actually most excited and happy to see her back.
Gordana Gehlhausen – I was not as upset as other people by her auf’ing (or as intrigued by her designs), but she deserves a second chance.
Anthony Williams – I was not really a fan.
Mila Hermanovski – She was my favourite of the top 3 in S7, so I’m happy for her to have another go. Hopefully with a little colour this time.
April Johnston – She was my favourite for the general course of S8, so it’s good to see her back. Hopefully, again, with a little colour this time.
Michael Costello – I remember him, but I literally cannot remember a single thing he made.
Mondo Guerra – He deserves a second chance, obviously, and I’m glad to see him get it, so long as the judges don’t cave to the public pressure of the legend of the hero Mondo, the she-demon Gretchen, and the intervention of two evil fashion gods.

So many of my favorites were in the last All Stars (“Uli was robbed AGAIN!) that I’m not all that excited about this one.  There are a few I’d like to see more of, but not that many.  Austin, Kara, maybe Gordana, maybe Mondo but that’s about it.

I think a more interesting concept would be to have teams of 3-4 for
each season and have them compete as a group for their respective
seasons. I would love to have seen Laura, Uli, Michael and Kayne all
working on the Season 3 team for example. Give them a couple weeks to
produce one piece each that would show their best work and also look
like it came from the same collection and have a Season vs Season
    face-off.

As for this All-star version, I’m not that interested….no season three people which was my favorite.

OH GOD DYING KENLEY AND ELISA AND AUSTIN (HER ROYAL HIGHNESS) AND JERELL AND KARA ALL IN THE SAME PLACE DYIINNNNGGGGG

You know, people always talk about the crack smoking judges; but what about the crack smoking casting directors?

Bottom line: Sweet P is NOT an All-Star and does not deserve to be there. Period. She got as far as she did in the game only because producers wanted someone in there who was relatable to housewives watching. Elisa shouldn’t be there either. There are a couple others who are questionable, but those are the standout miscasts.

I think the trouble is that a lot of the star all stars are a busy and had difficulty opening up enough time on their schedules to do the show. At least I hope that’s the case with everyone I want to see again.

Kind of off topic, but, I came across this catalog and then seeing that Mondo is coming back, made me think of…yes, Gretchen…and all that “she knows what’s happening now…very of the moment” talk from Nina and Michael…I never really got that, but then I saw this and the rest of the catalog is pretty similar.  I still don’t get it…but thought I would share and see if anyone else “sees” it too.  Link has to be cut and pasted, sorry.

yay Mondo :)  I love most of them.. I could do without spit gal and Costello… but that’s why they’re cast, right?

    No Korto? Flunk.

April?  Really?  She was just mean, with ugly designs and an uglier attitude.  Michael does beautiful work and is already on the red carpet a lot, he’s doing very well.  Mondo is fantastic and seeing Mondo and Michael together is going to be so fun to watch.  I will miss Tim so much!  I think Michael and Nina need to be replaced as judges anyway…after all that praising of Gretchen last season, I just thought they had gone completely insane.  Gretchen made the worst designs I have ever seen…and when they interviewed her after she won, she was surprised that it had been “pretty quiet”…quiet like as in crickets chirping quiet, I’m sure.  Haven’t heard or seen another thing from her since, thank god.

Oh god!  IVY!  She was soooo evil!!!  I can’t believe I almost forgot about her!  Thank god she’s not on..she literally made my blood boil!

ELISA!!!! I KNEW THEY’D BRING BACK ALIEN GIRL!

but more importantly–WHAT is that THING on Austin’s face? His entire look from the neck up is currently screaming “pedophile in the 70s”.

    MONDO!!!!!!!!!!

    MONDO!!!!!!

  • MilaXX

Glad I checked back. Egad those have to be the worst pictures of Mondo and Gordana ever. She looks like a crazy old lady and he looks like a puppet.

    • Anonymous

That is so sadly true. She looks about 20 years older and if he were positioned slightly higher in the picture it would look like Austin had a ventriloquist act.

  • Margo Anderson

With the news that Elisa will be coming back, once again the Interwebs are ringing with shrieks of horror that she used a dab of saliva to mark fabric. Most people thread a needle, hand or sewing machine, by moistening the end of the thread in their mouths. So pretty much any garment you buy is going to have a few spit molecules on it. Lighten up!

No Nina? No Duchess? NO TIM?????? Who will hold our hands and guide us through this train wreck? I’m scared. Isaac Mizrahi? No thank you. I’m more devastated about the judges than the contestants, which actually have more favorable picks than I expected. I loved April, and since she is so young, I am very excited to see how she has grown as a designer since her PR season. Super excited about her, Mondo, Rami (hope he’s gotten over the draping) and Austin, and the rest can go away. Anthony will again get by on his entertainment value- not that I’m hating, loved his personality, but his designs were tacky. Sweet P. & Elisa- SAD. Mila- BORING (designs). All I can say is I hope we get to see a cage match of Michael C vs. Kenley at some point. Put them together in a team challenge or something. That’s entertaaaaaiiiiinment!

Austin and Anthony on my television at the same time is perfection. I don’t even care if anyone else is on the show.

  • Anonymous

    Kinda intriqued.
Looking forward to seeing Austin, April, Gordana, Jerrell, Rami and Mondo. The others, whatever.
Loathe Isaac Mizrahi. Kenley, I could live without ever seeing on my TV again.

This is an interesting mix . . . I was hoping for Jack, Nick, Korto, and Alison would be on this All Stars season.  But, I’m so glad Wendy, Ivy, Ping, and Zulema won’t be part of the gang!

On criticism I’ve always had of this show is that the prize money is a pittance so this is at least a start.  Truthfully it should be 500K.

  • moth_mdc

    let me guess…Mondo wins…

I disagree, and think the Ivy Higa mention someone posted above would have been far worse to foist on viewers.  Wendy was Wendy, a bit cracktastic, but Ivy was downright diabolical.

  • Evixir Q

I do take issue with the Georgina Chapman inclusion; she is far too milquetoast to rise to the challenge that these designers will pose.  She does not come across as the steely sort that is required to fill La Nina’s Louboutins.

    Austin!  Austin!  AUSTIN!

  • http://twitter.com/ShelfAfterlife Shelf Afterlife

This will be fun.  I hope Michael Costello has no major meltdowns.  I’m sure he’s probably not the same guy who lost his marbles when he was eliminated.  And if Mondo doesn’t win, will he return to the barber shop quartet he left behind to pursue his fashion dreams?

I might be tempted to see this show. We’ll see. Last season still sticks in my craw.

How adorable is Mondo?  That haaaat.  Austin, Kara, Mondo and Rami seem like early frontrunners to me.

Being you guys usually have the inside scoop, do you know if they asked Laura Bennett to be on the All-Star show? Did she turn them down? Is she still designing or is she mostly focusing on writing right now? We need an update.

I would have really liked to have seen a few season 3 people on this, like Laura, Malan, Uli…..etc.

  • Anonymous

I <3 Anthony Mondo and Gordana especially, but this cast should be super entertaining.  There will at least be a lot of crying for as long as Michael C is on.

I am so disappointed to see Michael Costello and Sweet P – terrible, terrible.  I am so thrilled to see that Jay Nicolas Sario from Seth Aaron/Anthony/Mila’s season isn’t here.  He’s such a Vosovic type that I feared he’d be a contender in order to make up for not attaining a title he never deserved to win IMO.

  • http://twitter.com/kingcharles0921 Charles Ayres

I think this show is partially about auditioning new judges and Angela Lindvall as a permanent Heidi replacement. Heidi is a real star though, so it will be interesting to see what Lindvall brings to the equation.

  • Laura Goulding

Are they gonna give the whole thing to Mondo in order to appease the fans and, in a way, “un-do” the wildly unpopular outcome of Season 8?  Because if so, ::yawn::.

  • mc90

Kenley did “flapper inspired looks”? From what fashion planet did the Lifetime copy writer beam down?

  • Anonymous

The difference between Kenley and Joshua, is that she appears to have learned from her miss steps.   We’ll definately see if that’s true, when she competes on the all stars.

As for Elisa, yes she spit on her fabric.  But learned from another designer in that season how to ‘mark’ her fabric without spitting on it.

She has since (successfully I might add) shown at Mercedez Benz week on a couple of occasions.

While I am no longer watching Project Runway, because of them rewarding Joshua’s bullying (via Tim saying how proud he was of all of his designers for ‘their honesty’) …… and the judges keeping the bully on and saying he was ‘playing to the other designer’s strenghts'; I will watch the All stars.

BTW in the ‘real world’ business owners fire people like Joshua every day (no matter ‘how’ talented they are)!

  • Anonymous

I love most of these designers.  I vaguely remember Elisa and the spit marking, but none of her outfits.  I’m excited to see Austin (my season one favorite) and Mondo (last season’s favorite).  I’m also looking forward to seeing Kara, Sweet P, Rami
and Anthony (he used to crack me up on a regular basis).   Kenley had some good ideas, but I hope she learned some interpersonal skills.  Who am I kidding?  She’s on there precisely for the controversy.   The rest were all talented, but except for Mila’s color blocking, I don’t remember a lot about their designs.   This bunch is so much more talented than the current group, or maybe the current group is just getting too many weird challenges.  It’s interesting that Isaac Mizrahi is a judge, since his Project Runway knockoff didn’t do well on Bravo.    Unfortunately,  Tim Gunn is one of the main pleasures of PR, so we’ll see how it is without him.  Although he is very underused on this season.

I can’t wait to see Mondo, he will win it, I know it. Most of these people agreed because their 15 minutes ran out and they wanted some more attention. But their designs will be jacked up. especially April. She can’t line a jacket to save her life.

  • http://twitter.com/PandaDandaPants Amanda Rose Gilbert

    thumbs down.. boo

  • http://twitter.com/PandaDandaPants Amanda Rose Gilbert

I know April personally and live in the same city as her. Her clothes are in a boutique here and I have tried them on… holy sh*t, the worst fitting garments I have ever worn. Plus she is SO FULL OF HERSELF HER HEAD JUST MAY EXPLODE!
And all of her pieces look the same. Her company line is called “Mangled Courtesan” which is perfect because her clothes look mangled by a rabid dog. and she’s making her own BLACK wedding dress with a reception full of dead flowers..

  • http://twitter.com/PandaDandaPants Amanda Rose Gilbert

    she didn’t win.

  • BookManFilm

    Didn’t mondo already win this?

    Kenley!
