In or Out: Zoe Saldana in Balmain

Posted on August 23, 2011

We are inclined to give Zoe a WERQ! post every time she steps out, but Kelly O beat her to it and besides, we’re not sure this is WERQ-worthy.

Zoe Saldana attends the ‘Colombiana’ Miami Red Carpet Screening in a Balmain dress.

Balmain Resort 2012 Collection/Model: Kasia Struss (WOMEN)

From the back, she looks stunning. When she turns around, she looks… half-stunning. She paints a striking picture no matter what, but as much as we adore her, we cannot applaud that bottom half. When it comes to skirts, we’re of the “shit or get off the pot” school of thought. Either wear a mini or wear something gown-length, but you can’t wear both at the same time. We’re sorry, but you can’t. The skirt police will be along shortly to escort you home, Zoe. Please wait here until someone comes to get you.

There really should be fashion police, you guys. Although we suppose their influence should be restricted to high-profile events, otherwise they’d never leave Walmart’s parking lot.

Anyway, we hate the skirt. It’s that whole “Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m proud to present…my lower half!” stage curtains thing. We also hate the way it attaches in the front, which makes it look like there was a full white skirt at one point but the front panel got ripped off in some sort of horrifying red carpet accident.

The hair and makeup are really pretty, though; and the shoes are fierce. Although the latter would have worked better if this was a mini and not a mini with boudoir curtains attached to it.

VOTE NOW!

IN! Smell the fierceness, bitches!

OUT! Pick a dress and stick with it!

In yesterday’s bitchery, Miss Julianne Moore and Miss Rihanna both got vehement OUTs from the bitter kittens for wearing a beach coverup and no makeup in public, and a skinned muppet, respectively.

I think she pulls it off. I even like those shoes, and don’t usually like anything that strappy.

    • Respectfully disagree.

Her legs peeking out of a shower curtain and nearly revealing her lady parts is more icky than the mini.

      Ta dah! Here’s my vajayjay!

  • It’s an odd dress, but she’s rocking it. IN

  • OUT.  The added half-skirt is awful, and she doesn’t even have the excuse it came that way — SHE HAD IT ALTERED TO INCLUDE THE WEIRD-ASS HALF SKIRT!  And it was for a screening!  Not the Oscars.  She could have worn it as it was originally and still be totally appropriate for the occasion.

    • Anonymous

Agree. It would have been a WERQ were it not for the bedsheet. Oh, Zoe. Why do you pain me so?

  • Sam Corbett

In! I don’t approve of he skirt, but come on, she’s Zoe Saldana… she’d WERQ a burlap sack if she had to.

  • Anonymous

    Out.

  • aussiegal77

Wow, what a way to ruin a fierce dress and shoes!  OUT.  She shouldn’t have added that weird half skirt thing.

  • Anonymous

OUT. I loved it until I scrolled down and saw the skirt. Everything else is smashing but it is ruined by the stage curtains. Calling 911.

  • Out.  Mullet dresses should be banned from the universe.

    It’s Zoe.  She’s werqin’ it.  She’s IN!!

The train is not a good addition, and the shoes don’t work with the dress at all.  It is, however, far better than that train wreck of an Osborne woman.

  • Rachel Stivers

Out. The dress was wonderful before she added the shower curtain. And I hate those shoes. hate hate hate.

    • Anonymous

My thoughts exactly.  I hate those shoes in combination with any outfit, but they are particularly bad when paired with what could have been a killer dress.

      • Yeah the hell are those shoes doing with that dress? She ALWAYS nails accessories too, maybe she has the flu.

      Precisely. OUT!

    • Anonymous

      agree.  those shoes are hiddy.

  • Anne Slovin

I don’t like it much, but I think she looks great anyway.

  • Anonymous

I’m too in love with her to form an impartial opinion. I will therefore sit, and stare, and smile.

    OUT – horrid skirt.

  • Anonymous

I hate to say it, but Out. I like the version on the model much better. It looks tacky on Zoe. It is like the love child of a latter-years Elvis jumpsuit and a Caesar’s Palace waitress uniform.

It’s not bad with the long skirt, if you look from the back.  Like, it wouldn’t be offensive if it went all the way around.  It’s better as a mini.  As great as the whole top half looks, I can’t get past the front of the skirt and the weird white line connecting the 2 ends.

Out.  I hope I never have to vote this way for Zoe again.

Actually, I want to give her the IN just for the back, but she could have worked this with some knee-high boots. March like you’re ordering your loyal troops. It would bump the entire outfit into costume, but as it was, it was practically there. Would have been fierce.

IN, but next time, go for it, girl.

  • Normally, I’d hate it, but I like the addition of the long white skirt..half lol. I think the mini looks like something 30 other starlets would throw on.

  • Anonymous

Out. Pick a skirt length. Ms. Saldana you should know better so there is no excuse-ing yourself to an in.

  • Anonymous

I don’t understand this garment.  The original was really cute, if very short.  Why would you add a long skirt to that?  And if you decided you just had to have a long skirt with it, why would you only add half a long skirt?

I agree with everything you said, TLo.  It’s lovely from the back, it would have been lovely without being doctored skirt but what happened there is just wrong.

    OUT!

  • Amanda Semrick

    Out.

It looks like she sat on a drop cloth and is pretending that she meant to do that.

I like everything else but that skirt – no. Just…no.

  • Amy

    WERRRRRQ IT ZOE!!!!

  • It was an interesting, borderline tacky dress, and she just went ahead and nixed the “borderline” part and made it look unfinished by adding half of a boring skirt. The raw edges around the top and bottom of the skirt are not helping to make it look like a fully-realized idea. I don’t like it from the back (it looks like she’s wearing a bedazzled blazer over a goddess dress) and really don’t like it from the front (where it looks like someone yanked off the front panel of the white skirt, only to be surprised with more beaded skirt underneath).

I’m also not sold on the shoes and hair. Shoes just don’t go and the hair looks super lazy

  • Vaniljekjeks

Out.  The front is not very nice.

  • Pat Pending

    Close the drapes!

  • Anonymous

That half skirt looks like it was just stapled on.  Nevertheless, she’s gorgeous.

  • sooo close to perfect…but im inclined to give her an IN

  • FIERCE!

  • Anonymous

OUT Ms. Zoe. Way to screw up a WERQ. Get rid of that tablecloth stuck to your mini, and you look stunning. That white thing hanging off your backside has all the charm of a trail of toilet paper stuck to your ass.

  • SO CLOSE but yet, so far.  i can’t get past the half skirt. just… can’t.

  • Anonymous

I’ll risk TLo disapproval and say I like those dresses (when well done) and she looks hot. Am I the only one thinking Matador?
    Fierce and IN.

  • Anonymous

    Scrolldown fug. Stylist fail. OUT.

  • OUT. The half-skirt addition is hideous.

  • Anonymous

    LOVE

  • Out!

  • Since I’m all about grading on a curve, she gets an OUT from me.  It would have been 100% in if she’d just gone for a 100% skirt (either all mini or all maxi).  She should know better.

That said, even when she’s out, Zoe still looks more fashionable and beautiful than 95% of starlets (rather than her usual 100%).

  • MilaXX

I can’t bring myself to give it a full fledged OUT. It’s Zoe and she’s working like she does everything. That said I am not a fan of mullets on dresses. This gets a small IN, but just barely.

    • Rand Ortega

      Dress + Mullet = Drullet?
I love her, she’s gorgeous & she’s the 1st black female lead in an action flick in 36 years (Pam Grier in ’75’s “Sheba, Baby” was the last 1). She’s a WERQ & an IN for that alone. The dress is dramatic & interesting. I really dig it.

  • Anonymous

I want to love it.  But I don’t.  She should have stayed with the model version.  OUT.

  • “There really should be fashion police, you guys. Although we suppose their influence should be restricted to high-profile events, otherwise they’d never leave Walmart’s parking lot.”
This is why In love you guys.  And half skirt is OUT.

    • Gawd, isn’t it the truth?  And you’re right:  OUT.  Why would you ruin a perfectly lovely dress like that?

  • Anonymous

IN, but mostly because it is so hard for Zoe to look bad.  On anyone else, this would be an out.

  • Judy_J

Don’t like the drapery added to the bottom of that dress.  OUT.  And I hope y’all didn’t have any damage from the earthquake.

  • Anonymous

BWAAAA hahahahahahahaha!  Love this post.  Without the curtains, it comes under my one category of Too. Damn. Short. but otherwise gorgeous!!!  With Curtain-Surround, it’s unqualified gorgeous.  With the “ladies and gentlemen, I’m proud to present … my [kootch]” it’s OUT.

P.S. I don’t like those shoes with this, either. Just adds to the OUT-itude.

  • Sara__B

The bead work on the dress is amazing, and there’s no doubt she’s fierce on the red carpet, but that skirt is just strange. Definitely should have been a mini or a long gown, not a hybrid. The stunning Ms. Saldana is OUT — pick a dress and stick with it!

  • Anonymous

IN. She would look better if she hadn’t decided to glue her hotel curtains to the bottom of her dress, but she still is fabulous.  The dress is interesting and striking in the version on the model–think the change was ill-advised.

    • Anonymous

Incidentally, there have been a lot of critiques of this movie from within the Colombian community–for the way it rehashes stereotypes about Colombia.

  • Anonymous

I do not like the half long/half mini….however, as a woman who wears skirts and shorts, and who finds herself sitting in chairs somewhat regularly – I think girlfriend wants to avoid the nasty red lines you get on the back of your legs when seated in anything with even a minimal pattern, including likely comfy chairs at a film premier (even fabric leaves a nasty reminder if seated in it long enough).

So, based on my long-shot assessment of her dress choice – I shall give her an “In” due to my feelings of solidarity – not cuz I think that thang looks good.

  • Anonymous

OK the skirt is goofy.  Whoever thought the original dress could be improved by the addition of a shower curtain liner in back should be summarily fired.  But I love everything else, particularly the shoes, so IN.

  • In.  She’s making it work!

  • Ted Kane

The dress is a crime, but she still looks great. IN.

  • OUT. Just say NO to mullet skirts.

  • Vag party in the front and business in the back.  OUT!

  • In! I like most of the elements of the look. I hate the skirt but she is pulling it off

  •  So torn. Back is great, front is ok, but not so much.
I say “in” all in lowercase

  • The flower(?) on the poster behind her in the first picture makes her look like she has wings.  Like some giant tacky disney tinkerbell fairy.

  • OUT

  • OUT

  • It’s like her pelvis decided to wear a veil.  Out.

  • Josefina Madariaga

Are you guys crazy?? She’s clearly IN. Even if you don’t like the skirt, you have to admit that she’s working it. It’s like the granny panties: not for every gal.
Don’t like the shoes with this dress, though.

  • She looks so beautiful, but the skirt thing is so dumb.. I just don’t know!

  • The shoes are just so-so.  Seen them loads of times on other feet.  I agree about the dress.  I don’t like the “short-long” thing in hairdos nor do I like it in dresses/skirts.

  • Out. The curtain thing does nothing to enhance the look. It’s just silly, and as lovely as the lady is, this kind of thing can’t be encouraged!!

  • Anonymous

After spending the morning stocking up on hurricane supplies, then an earthquake in the afternoon, a dress with a shower-curtain attached doesn’t even seem bizarre to me any more. WTH, IN.

  • Anonymous

IN with reservations.  I agree that the half skirt is weird, but I can’t deny that she looks fierce.

  • Anonymous

OUT!  Between the mullet skirt and the awful illusion netting in the top, she ruined a beautiful dress.

  • Jessica Goldstein

Is it cheating to say neither IN nor OUT? Remove the stupid skirt and it’s a big IN. But I really hate that skirt for all the reasons you describe. Plus, in this case, it doesn’t even match the dress to my eye. And yet, she still looks awesome despite the skirt stupidity. This is more of an entry level “how to fix” kind of post to my way of thinking.

  • Out – Its Mother-of-the-Bride from the back and Undress-the-Bride from the front.

  • So close, I feel like if she had either left it a mini or even put the full-length all around (because the back is fab), it would’ve been an in.  But the scrolldown to the skirt just left an “Uhhhhh……what” impression.  OUT.

  • Anonymous

IN……although the dress does appear to have a split personality!  On Zoe it looks interesting…..few others could pull this look off.

  • Aly Light

    IN.

  • Anonymous

Out.  I’m completely with you.  It rocks as a mini. It would probably be great as a full skirt, if the back is anything to go by. As the theater curtains to her crotch?  No go.

  • Anonymous

    OUT. Without reservations.

  • I’m particularly impressed how she managed to pose in front of that flower poster. It’s a nice touch.

  • Anonymous

This is ridiculous. She doesn’t do it for me anyway. She has that same tight, fake looking smile that Jada Pinkett Smith has, and it irritates me. I know that has nothing to do with her style and she doesn’t have much control over it, but I can’t get past it.

Besides all that, she had it altered. Why not have it lengthened a few inches? It would still a pretty dramatic look, and she wouldn’t look like she can’t make a decision.
    OUT

  • Anonymous

The original is fierce, but whoever decided to wrap a sheet halfway around Zoe’s version should be fired. Love her shoes.
She’s gorgeous, but I have to give her an OUT.

  • No, no, no. OUT. Pick a dress!

  • No, no, no. OUT. Pick a dress!

  • This is the sound I just made: OOOOOOOOOOOOOOoohhhhhhhh dear.  Pick a lane: skirt or no skirt. OUT.

  • Joyce VG

OUT.  But barely.  Someone ruined that beautiful dress.

  • Susan Crawford

I love the dress in the original, short iteration. But adding that back-curtain thingie just killed it for me.  Because Zoe is so fierce, I’ll have to give this an IN, but how I wish the girl had stalked the carpet in that short version. Accessories, makeup and hair were bow-down fabulous. (I will be SO glad when the fashion world abandons the mullett-dress – it is simply unendurable!)

  • IN, she’s killing it, even if it’s odd.

  • Anonymous

Gaah! I hate that deep V-neck to the almost navel thing so damn much (and yes, I do see that there is some illusion netting, it doesn’t matter), it is the first thing I see rather than the draggin’ bedsheet, which I admit is well attached in the back but just looks like it’s hanging from a rope in the front. And to make matters worse, this is a beautiful fabric, which could have been made into a stunning, flattering dress.

Apparently I am alone in this (the v neck). No, I will not go stand in the corner. I own my opinion bitches ;-/

  • OUT – with the flower behind her she looks like a Vegas showgirl

  • Anonymous

I agree 100% about the skirt, but she’s working the shit out of a look that is outstanding in every other way. I mean, hair, face, bodice, shoes, HER!

    In.

  • Aiste Griciute

Ah, mullet dress, long time no see. Thought you were officially over now. OUT.

  • Valerie Owens

You guys write comedic gold. GOLD, I tell you!!

  • Toni Mitt

Why, Zoe?  Why?  That dress would have been so IN as originally shown.  At first glance I hated the shoes, but now I see hwo they pick a bit of black i the bodice.  But oh honey that curtain on your ass?   No.  OUT

  • The skirt is a bit weird but the original dress is not I think an easy one to wear in the first place and she is wearing it well. IN

  • Anonymous

Mullet dresses are so very O-U-T…

  • Anonymous

Oooooh girl, why does your dress have a mullet??

  • Anonymous

It pains me to say out, because she looks awesome from the back, from the front – until you get to the legs, then it looks stupid. Like her cape-made-from-a-sheet somehow fell down to the hips.

I mean, on average, I’ve vote people in with a worse look, on average.

But that front view just fails. OUT.

  • It would be a beautiful mini or a stunning gown, but it can’t be both. Ugh. The look makes me cringe – it looks so Miss Universe, somehow.

  • Anonymous

out. Its a Sybil dress. From the front the it is Vegas show girl. From the back it is totally mother of the bride. That dress needs some Thorazine!

  • Three words – Butt curtain. Out.

  • I, too, am normally of the opinion that chimera skirts are terrible, but goddamnit she’s Zoe Saldana and I am smelling the fierceness.

  • Shannon 1

I hate to sound like a mindless minion, but I agree with TLo 100%.

  • Anonymous

The dress by itself would have been stunning, but I can’t get behind the coochie curtain (to say the least).  OUT.

  • Um, what are you guys smoking today?  First Becky’s ‘pretty’ dress gets deemed the design winner in the pigeon poop fabric debacle, and now this FABULOUS dress is getting the in-or-out treatment while Osbournes’s cheap looking, “first adobe illustrator project’ dress gets a work?  Are you going to start praising a pair of nude shoes next?

  • Anonymous

This looks like something Gwynnie should have worn in Country Strong. I say that as an ardent admirer of over-the-top Nashville fashions but, erm, yeah. Not really working for me outside of that context.

  • Yuck – Hates it, I does….

  • while i hate the half gown/half mini approach and wonder why she just didn’t wear the original garment, i must say that she is serving up a platter of fierce! she is a goddess! INNNN

  • Anonymous

Hate the train, but everything else is an IN!

  • From the back, I think the skirt actually adds to the runway look.  I LOVE it.  But you’re absolutely right about the half-skirt.  I think it looks like her ass is wearing a cape.

I wonder if the skirt was meant to go all the way around, but was then aborted near her lady-business.  You can see the white line sewn onto the dress where the skirt would have gone in the front.  What a shame that it didn’t.

Still IN, but one of those barely-ins where Heidi gives you one final warning chastisement before sending you off the runway.

  • Anonymous

The mullet skirt pains me. OUT…because it should have been so very in…

  • Anonymous

She’s the only one who could pull this off, and she very much does.  Other celebs should not look at this and get any ideas.

  • Anonymous

The front reminds me of one of  those Three Stooges shorts where they are disguised in the harem and they open their veils by pulling little drapery cords.

  • The dress would have looked fab either with or without the skirt, but I do agree it looks weird in it’s current style. Still, she looks good and she’s rocking the dress very well. So, IN.

  • I wish it would either be a short dress or a gown, but not both, ’cause this dress is pretty fierce otherwise.  but as of now, it’s a mullet.  It’s very hard for me to give this an out, but I cannot say it’s an in either.  You guys pick

  • Agreed. OUT. Can’t abide by mullet skirts.  Too bad, because the top is awesome and generally I like her.

  • OUT!  Why did they add the damn skirt?  She would have gotten a WERQ and 2 snaps if she would have kept it like the original.

  • OUT!  Why did they add the damn skirt?  She would have gotten a WERQ and 2 snaps if she would have kept it like the original.

    IN

I dislike the open front on the lower portion of the gown, but the rest…wow, she’s killin’ it!  It looks much better on the model with no gown…wish Zoe would have opted for that instead.

  • Anonymous

OUT+ She gets a plus for not wearing nude pumps.

  • C S

Here’s the thing: the skirt addition was not smart, I agree 100% with that.  And she’s look great in a mini, so why’d she do it?

But while the skirt looks wonky Zoe still looks amazing.  I think she’s pulling it off where no one else could.  IN

  • Anonymous

The arch the fabric makes just above her lady bits says “coochie cave entrance here”  The beading on this dress is gorgeous and she is a gorgeous woman but TLO, you are right, a dress divided against itself cannot stand.

  • I think she is working it enough that the mini/full length skirt thing doesn’t bother me as much as it should. In.

Out!  Pick a dress and stick with it, indeed.

No earthly idea why she would have tacked a tablecloth to a beautiful dress.  What goes through the minds of the rich and famous I will never understand.

IN….But barely…. I just can’t help but wonder if Halle Berry wore this, would it be a WERQ?

  • I think she looks amazing. In!

Nah, great from back and front.
The dress is stunning on her and she smiles very sweetly.
    In.
    Should have been a werq.

She’s just so beautiful that she makes even that half skirt look great.  Her hair and makeup are perfect. IN!

  • Margot Brose

This would have been a complete and total WERQ if it weren’t for that ridiculous little coochie curtain. You’re breaking my heart, Zoe! OUT! and never do this again!

  • Anonymous

Correct — the back view is amazing. The bottom front is a mess. I dislike black shoes with this dress, or the style of the shoes. But I give her an IN anyway.

  • Anonymous

Just what is the point of that piece of sheer fabric in the deep V at the front? Surely not modesty.

  • Though her sternum get a big IN!  She’s a tiny little thing, and yet I can’t see where each individual rib attaches and that makes me very happy:)

  • Anonymous

Not a WERQ, but a solid IN.

  • Anonymous

Boo.  I can’t even look at the whole outfit because it looks like she’s having a puppet show for her legs.  Horrifying.

  • While I agree with everything you said about the front, I still have to give her an In.

    Back IN

No stage curtains. If she’d worn it with the belt, as seen on the runway, it would have been totally fierce. Out.

So close. OUT. I loved it before I saw the curtains attached to the back. What a striking mini it would’ve been…in fact was, on the model. She’s a beautiful woman and I love the hair and makeup – meh on the shoes – but the curtains take her down.

  • The back is stunning,  and conceptually if she had worn the dress without the curtain and maybe dropped the hem an inch or so, she’d look really sexy. I still want to declare her an IN because there are so many good elements here, but if I’m mentally altering the look this much, that can’t really be in right? Guess I’m going to have to go with OUT

  • Rebecca Johnson

I miss the belts, too. Out.

Out, which is a shame because if the skirt extended all the way around it would be stunning.

OUT. She looks like she’s molting.

  • The switch from the original is inexplicable.  And as much as I hate a mullet skirt, I have to reserve some of my ire for the increasingly trendy super deep, super wide low V neckline.  She’s lovely, but damn it if that much skin doesn’t look tacky.

    O.U.T.

I think the dress would have looked fierce on Zoe in the original design but with that half-assed mullet curtain? No.

Sorry, Zoe, honey, but that dress is not your friend. You can do SO much better!

  • aimee_parrott

Ooh, if only she’d worn the short version.  I cannot encourage the vagina curtains, though, so she is OUT in spite of looking mostly fierce and fabulous.

  • Christina Brennan

I can’t get over the mullet dress.  NAY

  • In. I actually don’t mind the half skirt. I thought she was wearing a cape at first which in my opinion would’ve been fabulous. Regardless, still looks fierce.

OUT!  Did she get tangled up in her curtains before stepping out on the carpet?  She would’ve rocked the original dress on its own. Crikey.

  • What’s with the butt skirt?

  • Why did she have to add that…white…thing to it? What a gorgeous minidress! The way it’s added looks so unfinished too. It’s sad that Miss Saldana, the new queen of In, gets an Out on this one.

  • Anonymous

OUT! Had she or whatever cracked-out stylist not added the white chiffon ass curtain, it would have been an IN. The original dress was fierce and she could easily have pulled it off.

  • margaret meyers

A beautiful dress from behind — that heavily encrusted, long jacket over a simple skirt is a classic look from the 30s to the 50s.  But the front.  What a mess. Did Balmain do that special for her?

  • She would have rocked the original. OUT.

  • Anonymous

The original would have been PERFECT for her! Why did she have to go and ruin it with that stupid skirt? OUT, just for ruining a fabulous dress.

  • Anonymous

I think the skirt adds drama in a good way.  I think she needs a little jewelry around her neck.

  • Over @ celebitchy, she likens this to a Vag-valence –  could not agree more. The original is fantastic.

  • On anyone else it would look ridiculous, but she would look flawless in a raggedy bath towel with sheer hose and nude platform pumps.  So I say IN, FIERCE, girl!

  • I’m gonna give it an IN.  The top half is more amazing than the bottom half is tragic.

  • OUT.

  • Cheri Lee

I love the shoes with that dress and I agree, from the back she looks stunning as well as from the front.  I think it would have worked better as a mini though only because of the shoes but I give her an IN!

  • mh

I don’t even like it from the back for her. Maybe if she was the a mother-of-the-bride/groom. From the front I think the top half is just as bad as the bottom half. Well okay, not just as bad, but pretty awful. The shoes do rock, though.

    • Anonymous

Yes total mother of bride from behind too.

  • Anonymous

I’m of the “pick a dress and stick with it” persuasion. OUT.

  • Lisa

Oh, OUT.  It looks like she got a shower curtain stuck behind her and didn’t realize it.

  • I’m too weak from laughter to type.  TLo, your comments are priceless — especially “not a mini with boudoir curtains attached to it.”  I so hate this trend; second only to my hatred for silly putty pumps.

  • why did she have those things attached to a perfectly good dress?

  • I think another human wore that to Fangtasia.  OUT

  • parissweetheart

    Dolly Parton.
She’s a beautiful girl. I just wish she chose a different dress.

  • Open the curtains and Center stage?  Look everyone its my crotch!

  • Christina MacDonnell

hate it.  it looks like it’s trying to be a cape.

  • I love Zoe Saldana, but that’s an OUT for me.

    so so out–and I don’t like the hair–too casual.

     I think she looks amazing!

  • Mary McClelland

Out – pagent train kills it.

  • Mary McClelland

Out – pagent train kills it.

  •  It’s beautiful from the back, and it’s hot as hell from the front, but it should NOT be both. I’m giving her an IN, only because it’s almost there. She just need to get the back snagged on something so it can be ripped off completely.

I really loved the short version of the dress on the model, especially with the belts.  The “May I present my vagina” curtain/skirt addition is ugly and completely unneccesary.

Half In. But definitely not out. Back? Yes! Front? I would like a belt.

  • Anonymous

    out. Ruined.

  • Reluctant Out. Mullet skirts claim another victim. Love the short version on the model, though.

  • Anonymous

    No.  Out.

  • Patricia Biswanger

IN, but just barely.  I am not at all sure why she messed with that dress at all.  It’s a great dress, and adding that weird long skirt didn’t improve it one iota.

  • Out. She would have looked so much better in the mini as it was on the model. I hope this was a just random off-day for her, as she is usually so well dressed.

  • Elena

    Out.

  • Anonymous

Love it on the model. Zoe, however, looks like a show girl. Cheap, ugly, out.

  • Emily Roach

In. I love it. It’s crazy but I love applauding Zoe Saldana’s choices, because she seems genuinely interested in fashion. She’s a rare non-A-lister that designers just want to throw things at, because people really follow her fashion! I kind of loved it from the front first (WHO SAYS you can’t wear a mini and gown at the same time? Neat idea, Balmain!) but then when I realized how it looked from the back… amazing. Love it!

  • INININNNN!!!

100% agree with every one of your comments except for “the shoes are fierce”, and I even agree with that: they ARE fierce, just not with that dress.  I like the model’s shoes much better.  But I digress……..sorry, Zoe, this is an OUT.

  • OUT. She just looks so unhappy in it, like she’s about to burst out crying.

  • akprincess72

A big NO to the mullet dresses of the world!

  • Anonymous

In. I liked the dress even with the skirt. Liked the shoes but they we wrong for this look. Or maybe if they had been white or gold I would have liked them. Still an IN

  • Anonymous

I’m torn on this one. On the one hand, from the back she looks stunning and I don’t mind the top half from the front. On the other hand, viewing the skirt from the front makes it look like a huge roll of toilet paper got caught on her skirt. I think it’s a bare IN, just for the rear view.

  • Anonymous

Not usually a fan of the mullet dress, but somehow this works.  Probably just because it’s Zoe.  IN.

  • sonictofu

It’s an IN.  Reminds me of those great Givenchy dresses from last year’s fall collection (I think? Or was it Spring?) with all the fringes.  I would’ve liked it much more if it really was one of those.

  • Samantha Irene

Yeah, I want to love it, cuz she’s great… but… it’s just not right…. back is super good though.

  • She’s IN, but on sheer force of personality alone. All of your points are well-made, but I just look at her in those pictures and think she’s working the shit out of it regardless!

  • Anonymous

    IN! She pulls it off.

  • Anonymous

IN! I like this. I’m not terribly in love with the skirt, but I don’t mind it. I think she pulls this off pretty well.

  • She looks great from the back, but the front has a “WTF?” quality to it that even she can’t overcome.  Sorry.  Out.

  • Esra Erkan

Zoe, please get rid of that white fabric!

  • I like it! In.

  • Anonymous

Love the top but that skirt thing destroys it. Why??? OUT!

  • I don’t care, she’s Zoe. IN.

  • OUT. That dress was beautiful as it was designed- why wreck it? Plus, the shoes are wrong and her hair looks like a sloppy afterthought.

  • OUT. No mullets of any kind should see the red carpet, dresses included.

  • It looks like she tacked some drapes onto that poor Balmain with a Goddamned glue gun. Has she been hanging out with Beyonce’s mom?

  • IN

  • narita_rayna

IN, but i too hate the half-dress thing she’s got going on in the front.  i wish she had gone with the original mini version of the dress.  i think that would have been slammin’ on her & would have been more appropriate for the event.  the mullet really kills it.

  • From the back, it looks like a fancy dinner dress for a senior member of the Florida snow-birds crowd. Or maybe a mother-of-the bride dress. From the ’80s.

  • Anonymous

NO!  WTF is that curtain doing on there?!??  God I’m so sick of this quasi-military-janet-jackson crap anyway.

  • Anonymous

i have to say in because i love the rest of the dress so very much and it fits her like a dream. the shoes almost killed it although they would be cute in a different context.  let’s just pretend that she’s inviting us all over later for a viewing in the china closet.

  • bethannstamps

love the back. hate mullet skirts or half asses skirts or whatever this is. i hate it. otherwise i like it. conflicted. since i really love the back
