ELLE Canada: Floral Fantasy

Posted on August 08, 2011

My goodness, kittens. We need a break from the red carpets and the runways and the reality TV for a moment. It’s all so frantic and attention-seeking and we are delicate little Hummel figurines in the face of such an onslaught.

We need to center ourselves and find our inner calm blue ocean and we bet you do too. Every day needs to stop for a just moment so we can all get a dose of pretty. In other words, it’s Fashiondental Meditation time, darlings.

Let’s all cast aside the cares of the day and our aches and pains. Let’s take a moment from mentally compiling our List of People Who Need to Not exist (cross-referenced with the constantly updated List of Grievances). Let’s close our eyes and let our bodies go limp as we breathe through in the nose and out through the mouth.

Now open your eyes.

Remember to breathe.

It’s nice to end the day with a bit of pretty.

    • Anonymous

Oh man! They even made that Gucci dress I hate look gorgeous. All in all, totally swoon-worthy.

    • Anonymous

      I love the Moschino dress!

      • Anonymous

        And the shoes!

    • Anonymous

So much WANT in one editorial.

    • Anonymous

That Moschino is hilarious…and fabulous at the same time!

    • Anonymous

I wish I could live behind a cyan filter. Life would be ever so much more glamorous.

      • Anonymous

I tried it once. I looked like a Smurf.

        • Anonymous

But a redheaded Smurf! hehe Selfishly speaking for myself, of course.

      • Anonymous

Oh yes, I’m with you 100%.

    • Anonymous

I am so sick of that Gucci dress.

    • Anonymous

A beautiful and artistic magazine spread.  Makes the real world seem rather drab.

    • Anonymous

My thoughts on each picture: stunning, stunning, stunning, stunning, stunning, stunning, stunning, and very stunning. Thanks for the pretty.

    • Anonymous

J’adore! That’s how you do a floral themed editorial, look and learn Lea Michelle.

    • Anonymous

      The editorial is beautiful.

    • Anonymous

So utterly gorgeous. Thank you for the pretty!

The only picture I don’t care for is the weird squatting black and white one. I don’t care to think about what she’s doing in that picture.

    • Anonymous

A non-celebrity gorgeous editorial.  The perfect way to end the day.

    • Anonymous

I’m in love with that Paul Smith dress, and with every single backdrop, to the point where I’m starting to seriously consider wallpapering a room in my new apartment…

    • http://random.world-building.net Melanie S.

I really like most of this but, ugh, the repeating flowers in the background of the last photo are just distracting.  Actually get a giant wall of flowers or don’t try it.

or, at the very least, flip horizontal.

    • Anonymous

I do love a vibrant redheaded model, but she looks about 14 here, which isn’t a surprise. Still, very lovely editorial, LOVE the way she’s selling the Lanvin dress…even though I *do* think Coco Rocha (the runway model for the Moschino dress) brought it ten times harder and wore it ten times better than she did in the picture (fifth down).

      • muzan-e

Well, but it’s Coco Rocha. On some distant day, her gravestone will be etched with those words:

        Brought it harder;
        Wore it better.

        :)

        • Anonymous

Yes, very true. I was wondering if pointing out the fact that Coco wore it better was going to be moot or not.

        • Anonymous

thorughly enjoyed this post.  just beautiful.  so relaxed now….

    • muzan-e

Oh, I’m learning to like this girl: the almost-androgyny, the nearly-Victorian contours.
But the poor thing, placed directly beside Coco Rocha! She can’t withstand that. No-one can.

      Pretty.

And on a totally unrelated note, the number 1 on my list of People who need to not exist was just fired, and so now does not exist in my world?! Best news ever!!!

      • Anonymous

Am dying personally, to know who that might be.

    • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

I love the color filters on the photographs, it gives such a different feel to the dresses. Beautiful work. Very artistic.

    • Anonymous

Am I the only one who sees these pictures and immediately thinks of Florence Welch?

      • Anonymous

I thought it was Karen Elson at first.  But there is plenty of room in this world for another beautiful and talented red-headed model.

    • Anonymous

      totally gorgeous. merci!

    • Anne Slovin

Love love love that last short-sleeved dress.

      • Anonymous

Beautiful!  It looks like something Nicole Kidman might wear, n’est-ce pas?

    • Susan Crawford

I’m not really a floral-print bitter kitten, but this editorial has made me lust for the Paul Smith, the Vionnet and the Moschino. The shoes? Meh. But the rest of the styling – the whiteened skin, the hair, the uber-red lips: sparkling! Definitely a nice bit of pretty-pretty!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catherine-Rhodes/602850414 Catherine Rhodes

Gorgeous. I love the Paul Smith maxi. And the Giambatista coat. Yummy.

    • http://www.myblackfriendsays.com myblackfriendsays

      I looove that coat.

    • Anonymous

      I love that model.

Never heard of Paul Smith before but I’m going to go find out more!

      • Anonymous

I’ve been a fan of his mens wear for years, great shirts and ties.  I LOVE that dress!

    • Anonymous

STUNNING LOVE this! They should have used that Christian S dress from the SJP(right?) editorial

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6TDAYXK555ABAKZEEOAJMC25FU Stan

I hate this editorial.  It’s like the ads for the depression meds that show the person fading into the background.

    • Anonymous

I love florals so much. Is that Paul Smith hand embroidered? Swoon!

    • Anonymous

      Almost entirely fabulous.

      However:

      Hey, hey, ho, ho,
Granny panties have got to go!

    • Anonymous

Thanks for the pretty, I need it.

    • Anonymous

That first dress – the black & white Lanvin – looks even better in black & blue! Is that the same dress, with blue lighting, or is it an actual black & blue dress? Either way, gorgeous!

    • http://twitter.com/msatch Marlon Satchell

I am seriously jonesing for the Giambattista Valli coat. I think I’d want it in the runway white, though.

      “Hummel figurines”. . . “List of Grievances”. . .

      I adore you.

All one needs at the end of a trying day of attempting to inform others of their egregious errors is this and other such editorials which are all about sublimity.  I am totally refreshed.

    • http://profiles.google.com/thisiscelia Celia

LOOOOOOVE this spread. So gorgeous! I want all of it.

    • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

I love almost everything about this editorial, with one exception: the pose in the Van Noten photo. Pardon the crassness, but she looks like she couldn’t hold it and decided to pee right there, during the shoot.

    • Anonymous

Beautiful. Loved the Dries Van Noten dress–nice mix of colors and angles. The red-headed model has a very unusual look to her.

    • http://twitter.com/jennsaysmeow Fifi LaRoux

      I love it! So pretty!

    • http://twitter.com/kphamalama Kim

Whoo, this is beautiful! It reminds me of Emma Hack’s camouflage of female forms into the background of her artwork! Only with high fashion…

    • Anonymous

I’d like to take your meditation verbatim to my yoga class :-)

I really really love the Vionnet, as the runway model is wearing it. But most of these, they remind me of that old TV ad where someone had a couch that exactly matched their wallpaper.

    • Anonymous

Oh, thank you for the pretties T & Lo. Dreamlike and lovely. *sigh*

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

The makeup and styling make the model look ugly

Paul Smith dress looks like a nightgown my mother wore the crap out of.

That last pic of the Paul Smith dress is like a couture “Where’s Waldo?”.

      Paul Smith dress is gorgeous!

    • Anonymous

Ohhhh she is gorgeous.  First pic is my favorite.

    • Anonymous

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh….. A deep, cleansing breath of lovely to chase all the hideous financial news away!  I can feel my shoulders unknotting already.  Thank you!  This is a beautiful editorial, and except for the godawful Gucci (last seen on Lea Michele, amirite?), every piece is gorgeous.  I would like the Moschino and Vionnet dresses and the Giambattista coat, please.  Just ship them COD.

    • Tamara Hogan

I love the art direction in this piece. The gorgeous super-saturated colors make already fabuous dresses even more so.

      (Slow clap) Very well done.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Very interesting.  And j’adore that Paul Smith dress.

    • aimee_parrott

Aaaaaaah.  Now I can face the day, fortified with beauty.  Thanks, TLo!

      Gasp! So lovely.

      Stunning!

    • Anonymous

Soooooooooo pretty!  Thanks, TLo – I needed that!

    • Anonymous

I really like Chantal Stafford Abbott in this!  First, I wish my name were something even close to this interesting; more importantly to everyone but me, this editorial makes me reconsider what I think about the clothes, as in, gee, I might look good in that.  Which is how you get someone into the store, non?

    • Anonymous

Now THAT is a kick-ass editorial. Especially the ones with the colored floral backgrounds/projections/filters. (or photo-manipulated overlays, if not projections.) Not such a fan of the wall o’ flowers.

The photos were striking, pretty, and made the clothes prettier.
