Cirkuita Jewelry Collection by Paola Mirai

Posted on August 31, 2011

Italian jewelry designer Paola Mirai used old technology to make very new, and very modern, jewelry pieces. And when we say she uses old tech, we don’t mean to make it, we mean it’s made out of it. The collection, called Cirkuita, is gorgeously unique.

We adore it. Exactly what the 21st Century gal needs to go with her jetpack and robocar.  But the Bitter Kittens must have their say in all things, so you tell us:

interesting, i would go so far as to say appealing, but a few of them look just like some items i saw in a sex shop recently…not that there is anything wrong with that…..so um…yea!.

      • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

OMG! I was thinking the same thing. Very sex-gadgety!

    • http://www.facebook.com/prettymuchalltheway Kat Schnepp

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! steampunk-inspired glass (resin?) jewelry is precisely what i want to be wearing this fall.

      • http://www.facebook.com/chloe.stabler Chloe Stabler

I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought of steampunk when I saw this lol :)

        • Anonymous

That’s the first thing I thought of, too!  And I really like the collection.

      • Anonymous

I think only the last one looks steampunk.  The rest could be cyber punk maybe…

    • http://profiles.google.com/denise.alden Denise Alden

I think they’re just terrific.  Really well done.  Yea!

      • Anonymous

        TOTALLY TERRIFIC. I want.

BTW, wondering if anyone else is having trouble getting the posts to open (clicking on thumbnail unresponsive), and then once a post does open, a lot of hiccuping, jumping around. I don’t know if it’s just me or if WordPress is being cranky.

I’ve been having the same issues for about a week now.  I have no idea why.

        • Anonymous

Whew! I’m glad I’m not alone. I thought it was just me.

      • MilaXX

yea, I thought it was something I was doing wrong.

Me too. Ever since last weekend, I think, couldn’t do comments for a few
hours either. I’m always fiddling with my computer, thought it was just
me, or as some folks like to say, because it’s a Mac.

I also have the page jump back to the previous screen without any help from me.

        • Anonymous

Same problems here as well as the pages load extremely slowly on all my machines (Mac and PC)

What kind of a browser are y’all using?  Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer?  If you’re using Internet Explorer, it causes problems for many sites.  You might consider trying a different browser.

        • Anonymous

Oh, good question. Chrome. FB and Chrome don’t get along at all, I find, but I don’t usually have problems with WordPress sites. Well, maybe I’ll try Firefox. Thanks.

I wasn’t having a lot of trouble with the pages loading but the comments wouldn’t load properly sometimes, When I would log in nothing would happen and I wasn’t able to leave any comments. I switched from IE to Firefox and all the problems stopped.

I really like the second and third rings and all the bracelets are interesting.

    • Anonymous

Definitely yea for me. They’re so unique and interesting and gorgeous

    • Anonymous

Definitely yea for me. They’re so unique and interesting and gorgeous

    • Anonymous

They all look lovely in photograph. It just seems like the pieces with more pattern would probably work better in practice on a wrist. I think the second from last is my favorite.

    • muzan-e

Not just yea, but Yea! I would buy them. I would wear them. I would soak in the envying stares of my fellow technogeeks.

And I would definitely wear one with Becky’s sleek little paint-splatter dress of week before last.

      • Emma Wallace

I would be one of your fellow technogeeks looking at you with envy.
        I like the bracelets best.

    • Judy_J

Oh, a big YEA from me!  I love it all, especially those rings!  Fabulous and beautiful!

    • sportzgrl33

Love it! I’d definitely wear several of them.

I don’t love all of the rings, but the bracelets are gorgeous.

Please excuse me, I’ll just be over here drooling and coveting.

Emphatic yea. Simultaneous geek & clotheshorse is OK by me.

    • http://theredheadd.wordpress.com deb wood

I’m on the fence on this one.  Very cool concept, but not something I’d wear myself.

    • Anonymous

YEA! Etsy influenced without looking cheap or too “crafty.” Love that turquoise circuit board bracelet.

      • http://pleasewelcomeyourjudges.com/ Brian @ PWYJudges

Yes – the turquoise circuit bracelet is my favorite, too!

Definite Yea!  I love the unexpected reworking of materials.  I would wear 99% of it, in a heartbeat.  That second to the last bracelet is to die for!!

      Wow. Totally love this collection.

    • MilaXX

YAY! I love it all & only wish I could afford it.

    • Anonymous

Oh, Yea. I’ve always thought some clever people could use old circuits n stuff to make fabulous accessories. I like the gold/brass ring, 6th down, especially. The poky rings, I dunno, that’s just what I would do, go to rub my eye and ruin the rest of my vision with a poke!

    • aimee_parrott

The first and second-to-last bracelets need to be on my wrists, NOW.  Definitely a YEA!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LBVEYMFKM4YOWI5CXE4QCUMSQY M

YEA!! I’m having a nerdgasm over some of those bracelets.

    • Anonymous

I’m not interested in anything made out of petroleum products or chemical stews, which I assume all these bits and pieces are molded into.  And it’s not just because I have a something against petroleum products and chemical stews, although that’s part of it, but they also cause me to develop a rash.  So they’re interesting, but NAY!

    • Anonymous

Yay! I love the idea of recycling and re-using trash for new things but usually hate the implementation – this is freaking fabulous!

Oops, my self-imposed limit of one exclamation mark per message/email is being ignored…

    • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

YEA – Especially that last piece. Unique and fun.

    • Anonymous

Using the old bits and bobs is pretty, but is that lucite?  plastic?  Can’t be glass.  Even with worries about scratching them up or even shattering (!), I really need to have a couple of those bracelets,  For Christmas, maybe?  Anybody?

    • http://www.facebook.com/chloe.stabler Chloe Stabler

      GORGEOUS.

    • Anonymous

I don’t know if I like them or not.  I like that blue one quite a bit – but I also get a japanese/anime plastic vibe.  I think the red ring is what’s creating that for me.  Hmmm.

    • http://twitter.com/dryadgirl Dryad Girl

I love this stuff, but I also remember when making jewellery out of old motherboards was big in the 90′s. I know I wore it in middle school. This isn’t new, just classier than hanging raw microchips from fishwire hooks.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

It’s interesting but repetitive.  And you can only have so much Lucite jewelry….

Steampunk meets Damien Hirst, very cool.

    • Joyce VG

      YEA!

    • Lauren Maier

      YEA!
It has a modern Steampunk feel that I really like.  They’re sensible, chic pieces and I don’t have to dress in fifteen petticoats and frills to make the look cohesive.  I feel like for Steampunk, you have to do full-on Neo-Victorian for a locket to look right and these could easily be paired with jeans and a blouse and viola!  awesome.  :)

    • Anonymous

      love this icy steampunk bling.

      Yea!

    • Anonymous

yeaYAYyea.  so beautiful and delicate.  except the eyeball looking ring is a bit much.  i wonder if they’re made of plastic or glass.  glass would be beautiful, but it’s so easy to break a glass ring by slamming your hand down on a table (or your fist into a wall, i daresay).  i broke a beautiful pink jade ring that way once.

Looks like a 22nd century version of steampunk to me – I mean, it looks rather like what someone would do in a hundred years with todays bits of flotsom and jetsom. Some of the pieces look interesting, but for the most part, not something I would wear. Well made though, gotta give it that.

YEA!  And I desperately want to know what some of the techno pieces were in their former lives.
I’m getting more of a “steampunk” (though not overly so) vibe than anything “sex shop-y,” and I KNOW sex shops!  I mean, err,….I heard…from someone…one time.

YEA and YAY! i love how subtle these are and how they merge together the form of the jewelry with the circuitry, making it into more of a design element than a heavy piece of old machine, as these sorts of jewelries oft do.

Awesome.  They should set up shop at Comic Con, they would make a killing!

      Yea!
Bracelet #1 and #7 can come live with me! Oh heck, ring #4 is invited too!

      Yea!

I like some of them, where the parts were used to make a design. But others just look like you dropped a vat of glue on the computer…ugly.

YEA! Wow. I’ve seen jewelry made out of techno-junk in the past, but never anything quite like this. Is that Lucite? Really beautiful. I especially covet the bracelets…all of them.

Some of these pieces have a very steampunk vibe to them.  I approve.

      Yea. Very cool.

Yeah these are very cool, but when are we getting our Jetsons cars?  Because these won’t go with my boring old tires-on-the-ground car.

what is that last piece? A wrist cuff?

      • Anonymous

        A bracelet, yes.

Yea and maybe nay. Yea to the bracelets but how comfortable are the rings to wear? They look a little clunky. But very cool.

I love this. I feel like so many of the jewelry lines are terribly repetitive. This is refreshing and stunning and a wholly formed vision. Wow!

It’s nice, but it’s not for me.

      COVET !!!!
just went to the website. It’s not as expensive as I guessed (just check the last Kenzo’s sweets my Hubby offered me. It’s insanely expensive). To bad the ones I like are already sold out.

Maybe it’s just because I majored in physics in college, but I totally want everything.
